Reviews of Koya City
N.
What a great service we got. Amazing staff! We had varied opinions on the food. We did not enjoy the pickled plums but I guess that is an acquired taste. The braised pork was delicious and so were the marinated mushrooms. The chicken wings were nothing special, quite bland. We ordered the duck hearts and we all liked them very much.
As mains we had 3 Niku Great taste, sweet broth, amazing noodles and a bit portion of beef shin. However 1 of the bowls had a lot (a lot) of fat.
We also ordered the venison broth. While the flavour was good there was almost no deer at all to eat. Just 2 or 3 tiny bit that were so small that could be swallowed even without chewing.
K. L. (.
Was on the way bk home decided to get off Bank as I saved this place to visit. The Udon has great bite to it with the Tempura nicely battered and deep fried (it did get slightly soggy) which I expected to come separately. Staff was friendly and greeted us immediately since I guess it wasn't too busy for a Saturday evening. The Green Tea was flavourful and calming indeed 👍

Customer service:
Very welcoming lady, very quick to assist.
Food:
The food was not exactly what I was expecting. I ordered the curry rice, and I was surprised to find whole uncut vegetables underneath. The sauce was not unbearable but I wouldn't say its worth £11.20. I found the portions to be on the smaller side and were not as filling. The side miso soup was quite salty.
Interior:
Everything is kept clean and organised. I really appreciated that. Heat lamps are installed in place if you chose to sit outside when it's cold.
V. L.
Decent and tasty Udon, tempura was bad though as it was soggy! Would prefer if the Tempura was left out of the bowl to retain the crisp of the batter.
Loved the soft boiled Egg, perfectly cooked, creamy and vibrant Yolk!
A. G.
Ordered a hot udon with smoked mackerel and greens. The broth was really good and udon were cooked perfectly. Quick and friendly service. You can even see the chef preparing your meal right in front of you
B. L.
TLDR; come here for some proper, authentic udons! A tad expensive but worth it over all. Don’t confuse this with Koya-ko which is a rip off (see my other review)
Pretty much the only place in London with some proper, decent udon. These tastes freshly made with just the right amount of chew.
We had the Sakana (fish) and the Buta (pork) bowls with a side of the braised pork belly. All of which were delicious in their own way. The Sakana was extremely light, in a good way. The braised pork was simply heavenly with that melt in your mouth feeling.
There is a variety of broths and toppings to choose from too. What really makes the menu versatile is the ability to have the udon / soup served hot or cold. This is perfect for all weather and something I appreciated tonight as it was pretty cold!
Atmosphere-wise, Koya offers covered outdoor and indoor seating. Both are decorated in neutral tones for a comfortable dining experience. The heaters outdoors made it a pleasant meal despite the cold weather.
Slight down side to Koya is that the price is slightly on the expensive side. I have to note that this is already much much better value than their Broadway Market (see my Koya-ko review) branch which takes a street food theme of smaller portions but charging full price.
W. L.
Lovely restaurant. With lovely noodles udon. I think it is called poke house now.

Set in one of the only areas you’d want to eat in near Bank station, Koya City has an outdoor seating area that consists of benches. We were a group of 11, so we were seated outdoors under the current regulations. Inside there are smaller tables and it is air conditioned very well. When we were there music was low volume but played songs from artists including Robbie Williams, fountains of Wayne and Natasha bedingfield.
Everyone was given chopsticks and one napkin each as standard, and they were generous with the cold tap water on a hot day. No extras are on the table - no additional napkins, dipping sauces, or bits that you might expect in a Japanese restaurant.
The menu is accessed through QR code and orders are taken at the table by a server. No real detail is given on the menu and googling will not necessarily bring up an accurate picture of food, so best to ask server or look for Google maps location-specific pics.
House white is delicious but a bottle of the cheapest wine is £46 which is extremely overpriced for the cheapest bottle.
Cold udon noodles come on the side of a simple broth. They are deceptively filling!
Katsudon is the best thing in the menu for meat eaters, and the katsu pork is a delicious starter! Miso soup that comes in the side is rich and comes in a container that makes it easy to tackle while you tuck into rice.
Definitely an improvement would be some table sauces or toppings to sprinkle on your udon or rice dish.
Overall really lovely experience - wouldn’t recommend seating if you have back problems though!
S. N.
The mushroom broth was warm and comforting. Loved the sweet walnut miso, and the udon was perfectly al dente. The tofu was crispy on the outside and soft, complemented perfectly salty pickle and sauce.
J. A.
Had an excellent time at Koya City! Ate the Buta Hiya - Atsu, it was divine. The side of tempura shrimp was very delicious, light and crispy batter, not heavy at all. I will definitely return. Very friendly staff and there was a heat lamp for those sitting outside which was very much appreciated. I would also recommend the fermented tea!
L. I.
Great take out. Very kind staff. Didn’t eat inside but was very nice looking and a appreciated that the bar I waited at was so low my feet could touch the ground. In nicer weather they have a big outdoor seating area
J.
Tempura is excellent - probably the best I've had in london. The cold dipping broth however could have had a bit more flavour. Udon texture is great!
K. Y.
Great food- I had the pork udon and it was really yummy! Also like their spacious outdoor but covered seating area.
A. G.
Delicious udon, very attentive service. Perfect for a meal alone or with friends!
T. L.
Came here as a suggestion from a friend, and was delighted by the selection. Even the gluten free selection still had plenty for me to choose from, though the star of the night has got to have been the strawberry oysters that were on the specials board! Absolutely worth a visit

Whenever I wake up on a Saturday morning, my thoughts instantly direct me towards Koya.
After eating here multiple times the food has never let me down + the staff are always so kind!
Id recommend having the beef hiya atsu (as shown in the picture below), the sensation that graces your tastebuds after mixing hot and cold is something I yearn for greatly.
In a city as hectic as London is, Koya is one of the few places I can find peace and briefly escape from the engrossing nature of living in this city.
s. G.
Small portion but it tasted okay. Udon firmness was fine but plating was lacking. Staff was talking with each other and thus didn't notice that I was ready to order.
T. L.
We had a lovely lunch at the City of London branch of Koya. We had tried to get in to this restaurant pre-covid but it was too busy. We ate pickles, marinated mushrooms, vegetable tempura, udon noodles with smoked mackerel and the seasonal vegetable and curry rice donburi bowl. Everything was beautifully presented and very tasted. We sat outside which was nice. I'd definitely go back again. The staff were helpful. I liked it so much that I wrote a review for my blog.
B. T.
My 3rd time in Koya and each time has been positive - Service is always great and polite, not overly attentive. Outdoor seating is spacious and comfortable. Additional bonus that the bathrooms are very clean!
I decided to try their special "ham hock, green beans and mustard leaves" this time. The broth is a bit plain/simple and 'clear', and doesn't taste too salty. I didn't like the raw green beans and mustard leaves as much and I prefer the other "traditional" udons I've had:
- Niku Hiya Atsu - Beef (Cold Udon with Hot Broth) (£11.90)
- Saba - Smoked Mackerel and green leaves (£11.40)
I also got the genmaicha which had about 4 small cups and was £5 - nothing to write home about. There is service charge as well. A suggestion: It would be nice if tempura or other deep fried items be kept separate from the broth as it would get soggy too fast!
I will definitely be back to try other options, though I might stick to the more 'traditional' options!
A. K.
Koya is great as usual. Been here with colleague for dinner. I really love the side of pork steamed (boiled?) in cider, always having that. We also had bowls of your udon and it was great as well, they make noodles right there and it's great. The plum wine is ofc great as well. And best thing - we were an hour late for the booking I've made, but they still found a place to seat us, and saved the evening :)
M. H.
Absolutely delicious, fresh udon noodles! We also had a bunch of small plates, like monk fish, katsu pork, seaweed salad and tempura. It was all so good! I can’t wait to go back. There is decent outdoor space with heaters. Wish they had better beer options and dessert.
P. J.
Best place for udon in London. Wish they would have more branches around London. A chewy and soft udon noodle with clear yet tasty soup. Satisfying meal anytime.
A. S.
The service and some small dishes were excellent but the quality of their main offer ‘Udon’ was quite disappointing. I’ve been a fan of Koya since it first opened in Soho before the closure. They seem to have come back with more outlets, kudos to them for the success but I remember the quality of Udon much higher in the old days (or am I just being old and beautifying the past😂) tempura was too crispy and crunchy, it totally missed the subtle fluffiness of well fried tempura butter and stock was too salty without much umami🤔
W.
I can't rate this place enough. I've been here so many times lately and introducing it to anybody who is willing! I love sitting at the bar and watching the chefs cook. I recommend the pork and miso or duck hotpot. For the pork and miso get the cold udon with hot broth, that way the uson noodles retain its delicious chewiness. Get the udon with an extra side of tanuki batter! Lovely bit of crunchiness texture.
A. C.
Amazing! Quality ingredients, reasonably priced. Nothing better than a warm hug of udon on a chilly London day. Looking forward to coming back!
J. M.
very helpful service. Cozy space. We thought a little expensive for brothed noodles. we understand this is your type of cuisine but we were expecting something more complex. the Tempuras were very cloying, there was a lot of mass around. the only thing we really liked was the soy pork belly.
J. C.
Koya’s much anticipated first outpost at the Bloomberg Arcade serves up a largely similar menu as their Soho location. Staples such as udon and small eats are equally well executed. The tempura remains one of the very best in London. Don’t be put off by the prawn heads - these are crunchy and tasty and make fantastic snacks to go with your beer!
D. L.
Amazing food, great settings and fair price consider the location. Texture of udon is just right. Good presentation. Egg was spot on and lovely colour. Some unusual ingredients that i dont expect to findd at this price point.slightly understaff but we went offpeak during weekend. highly recommended. definitely reaching "Rarity" level in UK.
D. K.
Simple but delicious udon noodles. I think some people might feel that some dishes aren't packed with flavour, but that's how it's supposed to be. If you're after bags of flavour and want to try the udon, then go for the lamb cumin. Otherwise, was very happy with the beef.
K. K.
Scallops from the special was absolutely amazing! Great dish for a scallops lover like me! Asparagus was special as well. Tempura prawn with tempura vegetables was good (veges was I guess just warmed up before serving but portion was very generous with hot broth on the side), and to finish milk ice cream with beans and honey... OMG that was incredible!
J. W.
The specials never disappoint - rump cap tataki, and udon always cooked the way I like it. Only let-down was the thick battered prawn that was meant to be my prawn tempura. I will still go back, the udon and the specials are just too good.
N. C.
Really great food. Had a gyudon and beer, prices are affordable, food is delicious. Tastes like authentic Japanese food. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Food service is extremely fast. Would definitely recommend to try.
W. K.
We tried the udon with rare beef and lamb mince. The broth was nice and udon had a good al dente texture. However nothing there really blew us away and the biggest issue for me was that the temperature of the broth could have been hotter. It felt just mildly warm when served to us.
A. R.
Great place for an after work catch up, with quick, attentive service. The prawn tempura was delicious, would've been even better if the tempura prawn was served on the side and not soggy from the broth!
R.
I was really surprised at the variety on the menu. My friends and I really enjoyed the service, atmosphere, and the food. I especially recommend the Ozeki Nigori Umeshu if you're looking to try a good Japanese umeshu.
L. G.
Beautiful, delicious food. Felt comfortable eating there as it’s spacious. Looking forward to going back over the next couple of weeks
O. S.
Great Udon! We tried the white fish and the veg. Both had a nice and gentle tasting broth, with perfectly cooked noodles.
M.
Superb, proper udon restaurant in town. Meals here satisfy even picky Japanese travelers. Perfect broth. The same one in Soho is too crowded with queue sometimes but this City one is enough spacy. Doesn't let you wait so long. If you ordered some udon with egg, don't crush it before enjoying clear broth first. It's amazing.
A.
Delicious food & nice ambiance, the kasu miso soup and the pork was especially delicious! Would return again.
J. L.
Their cold Udon with tofu (called Hayashi Katsute if I remembered right), cider pork belly, and the tempura Prawn are too good to miss! Must try 👍🏻
S. B.
Went with friends for a meetup we had different teas I had one of the black teas kukichai a wholesome taste they give you a pot so you get a fair amount the main I had duck and vegetable hotpot (kamonabe) I really enjoyed this dish and was full and very satisfied place is nice good for a meetup with friends or just a date, would book ahead, think my dish was £14 and £2.50 for the tea so reaaonable. For London
C. C. L.
Nice quiet udon place. We went in for a lunch at a Saturday. It's not crowed that day maybe it's the location, no one really come down the city area at the weekend. It's suitable for people who genuinely want to enjoy great food and peace of mind.
Udon is absolutely amazing. It nothing like any udon you have in the normal franchises. The springy texture of noodle with umami-y clear soup; it's full of flavor but yet so simple and original.
The gyudon is not so perfect. The beef is a bit dry, dunno its because the part of meat is not as tender as normally should be or we were unfortunately got the over cooked one...
P. L.
I had the salmon lunchtime bento box. It was authentic and well balanced nutritionally. Only 3 star because the rice was not so good and a little expensive at £10. The bottle of water it comes with should be a optional extra.
J. M.
Special udon - Braised beef shin hiyashi udon! Absolutely amazing!
C. S.
Misses the charm of the Soho bar in this location, but on the plus side it's just as delicious and very easy to get a table on the weekend so it's become our go to (esp during pandemic)
S. T.
Good udon. Highly recommend the pork cold udon and hot broth. The braised pork appetizer was delicious also.
Y. C.
If you want to eat a good quality and tasty ramen in the city, this is the place to visit. I had fish ramen with vegetables for lunch and my colleague had beef ramen Vietnamese style and we both enjoyed what we had. you shall get a green tea while waiting because it is fresh not bag tea. I asked for take away order as well but apparently they dont do that which show that they are only busy and focused on guests at the restaurant. very good job.
K. M.
Just visited for the first time. Will defo be back with the wife and kids :)
Simple, clean and bursting with flavour, the food is excellent. I had the haddock curry which was the daily special and it was perfectly balanced.
I agree with some that it’s on the slightly pricey side but it’s worth it for the quality.
N. L.
A very nice place for lunch in the City or a quick bite to eat. Friendly staff and good food. Possibly a little overpriced but that's the City for you
M. G.
I came originally for the oyakodon but they were out of chicken so I had the gyudon which was delicious and came with a lovely miso soup, plus my partner had the tempura prawn udon soup which was super nice too! I've not stopped thinking about it since I first went and can't wait to go again.
T. M. M.
Nice selection of classic udon dishes, great taste!
T. L.
Very authentic Japanese love it! The decor is very nice too. The only thing I haven't tried yet is their Japanese breakfast which I heard is really nice. I recommend the onsen egg side dish.
I.
Very nice food! Delicious fried breaded pork. Good atmosphere. I would recommend this place to authentic Japanese food lovers!
A. B.
We had the yasai tempura donburin and the pork udon which was very tasty.
E. H.
Delicious food. Fast, fresh and very high quality ingredients. Portion size varies a lot between the udon dishes and small plates.
W. Y.
Ordered hot beef udon. Very nice broth. Though the potion is not very big.
O. O.
I love udon with hot broth. I had mushroom miso and walnuts. Yammy
A. L.
Good menu choices with the food being very tasty and well presented. Service is prompt and friendly.
t. l.
Heart warming bowl of quality udon! Strongly recommend.
S. T.
Zaru udon - cold udon with cold dipping sauce. Can't say I've had udon this way before but it was tasty and you could taste the freshness of the just-made noodles.
Wheelchair access ✔️ Step free entrance and accessible toilets.
A. W.
Pretty incredible udon - fast & friendly service
S. B.
Don't bother with the current special "whole red mullet" costing £9, which is the size of a king prawn. Good quality but too expensive for the small portions. Only suitable for a light snack before your main meal elsewhere!
J. S.
I LOVE this place. The lamb udon is new fav
E. L.
Had great cold udon and great sesame sauce. A little pricey but worth the money
Y. L.
Not so easy to get udon noodles with that just about right texture. So you gotta give some credit for that for sure.
K. W.
Waited for 30mins for the foods to be served
As a good will they discounted 50% tho
Tempura can be improved
Noodle soup was yum
I. A.
The quality of udon here is amazing, just the right texture and length, you can tell it's handmade. We had the vegetable kakiage in hot broth and hiya-atsu tempura udon. The tempura was perfectly crispy, the broth salty and just right. We will definitely visit again!
L. P.
Fantastic authentic udon noodle soup shop. Staff was amazing, and kept refilling our tea with hot water to keep us warm as we were seated outside. Very tasty!
Q. X.
Nice soup
L. I.
Nice pork and egg katsu
S. Y.
Amazing noodles!
Such great food in a great authentic feeling setting. Can't wait to go back!
A.
Good selection of udon and attentive staff. Baby changing space in a toilet.
S. L.
Without a doubt they are one of the best udon places in London; super fresh and bouncy. The best one I've had is the Fish Hiya-atsu, the mellow white fish pairs well with the simple hot broth. I've tried their meat but often found them a little dry.
Their specials and side dishes are often hit & miss, very small portions and overpriced. The only one I've enjoyed so far was the Deep-fried Prawn Heads, but that's also expensive for what they are. Food delivery can be slow at times. Service is efficient but cold.
R. M.
Great food and admitted us on request even when kitchen was about to close.
J. T.
Good food with specials that sell out frequently. There's a mix of bar and table seating, you can reserve a table or run the risk and walk in, we got lucky. They do keep some seats aside for walk ins just in case.
Fair amount of drinks choices and the menu is varied enough. Food is good and fresh but portion sizes could be a bit bigger considering the prices.
J. S.
Good service, food ok, little bland, too much rice.
O.
Amazing beef udon noodles! Would recommend visiting on the weekend when its less busy.
V. S.
The most authentic I have had when comparing to what I experienced in Japan. Simple but very well made. And importantly, none of that "topping it with everything we think it's Japanese", like some chains do. The small, family run restaurants I visited in Japan also kept to basics: good broth, in-house made noodles, spring onions (scallions) and "the protein" (beef/pork/duck/chicken).
Love it, and will continue to go there at least once a week.
G. B.
Love it, but don’t tell anyone because I don’t want it to get any more busy at lunchtime! The prawn heads are my favorite and I cry every time they’re sold out. I highly recommend the walnut mushroom miso as well as the mixed tempura. But all the flavors are amazing and never too heavy. So authentic and delicious
c.
Beautiful food - best udon noodles in London I believe
A. R.
Great noodles, will definitely be coming back here.
B. H.
I’m a big fan of Koya. Been going to the one in Soho for around 5 years and started going to Koya City since it opened as it’s closer to where I live.
Unfortunately, the few times I’ve been here have been very disappointing. The first time I went the broth was bland, another time the toppings given were a lot less than what I normally get at Soho. Today the noodles were soggy and over cooked, similar texture to store bought frozen noodles. It is worrying when a restaurant specialising in udon doesn’t get it right. While I can understand it is a new restaurant and needs some time, there needs to be improved quality checks and better training of the new staff. I noticed that while previously they had chefs come over from Soho to expedite, recently these have disappeared.
Please improve as I really love this restaurant!
EDIT: APR2021
Quality has significantly improved! Udon texture is at the correct chewiness and q’ness.
Tempura is amazing as always
So excited for this opening, cant wait to be a weekly regular again!
W. M.
Excellent noodle bar - good selection of dishes, always tasty and fresh
B. N.
Basic, no frills, solidly delicious food. Had the ramen and the broth was very good. Spacious eating area. Clean bathrooms. Can be pricey but on par with other London ramen places. Definitely give it a try.
s.
Heavenly the first visit, I almost wish I didn't go back! The first visit was close to opening and the udon was probably the best I've had outside of Japan, the open kitchen gave that authentic Japanese feel too. The chefs were clearly all regimented and new exactly what they were doing and service was slick.
A few weeks later, there was a small but noticeable drop in standard. Only one of the original chefs seemed to be there and she seemed to be stressed by the new rookies! The food was good, but not of the same standard, more city lunch and becoming less of the final quality I suppose the difference of a little more attention. Service was also less slick.
I'll give the benefit of the doubt, and hope it's a blip rather than a downward curve. Still decent noodles and wide selection.
A. L.
I come here for the same every time if I’m in my own and on the way to the West End - walnut miso udon. If I’m with someone else I’ll try another vegan ramen but the walnut miso one is by far the best and most consistent in flavour every time. If I’m sharing other dishes I always go for the veggie tempura - they do it better than anyone else m. Seriously good.
D. H.
Busy restaurant with a range of delicious vegan options. Great for lunch!
A. K.
Good quality udon and good service.
S. L.
Very disappointed given how highly rated this is. It's really rather average and pricy. Don't see the point.
The udon is very soft and the tempura tastes like fish batter. Which is probably better for Western tastes but if you want authentic this is not the place. The oyakodon was average.
A. v. B.
Usually quite busy, but we managed to get a nice walk in spot by the bar. Food - especially the Udon - were very good. I can also very much recommend the Seaweed Salad and the pork starter dish.
S. X.
The City branch of the renowned Koya with the same quality of Japanese udon. Despite not having a breakfast menu of the same calibre as the Soho branch it would be dishonest to give anything less than five stars relative to the rest of London. I recommend asking for a curry udon and adding beef to it as extra, a small but fantastic secret.
E.
Food is great, service is so-so (considering 12.5% was automatically added even during lunch with minimal service).
N. D. (.
I had come once before at dinner and had the duck udon and thought it was very expensive for amount of meat you get. Decided to try again for breakfast and I actually really liked it! Still was expensive for amount of toppings but really liked the combination with the broth and udon and it was a very relaxing environment. One star knocked off as I had to wait 30mins for udon to be ready (30mins extra I could have been in bed) but was offered a free coffee and sesame cookie for the inconvenience!
c.
We've been to the Soho branch once and it's always busy, so we decided to check out this new location in Bloomberg Arcade on a weekday afternoon after the Christmas break.
At about 4pm there was maybe only one other table, and plenty of staff, so obviously no wait at all.
We ended up getting assorted pickles and agedashi tofu small plates as starters, both of which were really good. Pickles didn't look like much, but had a really lovely flavour and texture. Tofu had a gorgeous delicate texture, nice coating, good sides like green onion and ginger, and a tasty broth. Would definitely order both again.
I ordered the hot udon and hot broth with walnut miso and mushrooms. At first I found it a bit bland, but once I stirred in the walnut miso, that helped a lot. It could have used a bit more umami/salt for me, but I am aware I'm a salt addict, so it was probably plenty for most people.
My date got Katsudon, which is apparently the lunchtime version of Tonkatsu, breaded pork and egg on seasoned rice. He liked it a lot but said that he would probably get noodles next time, this was a bit rich.
For me, it was a great way to have a meal that was a little healthier following the gluttony of the holidays, but still delicious.
Service was quick, they take Amex, there is free wifi, and bathrooms are clean
J. P.
Came twice and each time was delicious!
M. C.
Good for a quick stop, tea was hot, udon were slurpy.
K. I.
Looked through the reviews and decided to share my view on the food in Koya.
I've been going to Koya for some time in Soho and excited about this city branch as I live in east London.
To make good udon is extremely hard and from some of the reviews it seems that some peeps clearly are not aware of the work that goes in to creating the quality of food produced at Koya.
As a food enthusiast with a particular fixation of udon, having eaten udon for breakfast, lunch and dinner for weeks in the birthplace of udon in north Shikoku island, I can only express my positive appreciation of the noodles at Koya.
However, if you are not that bothered about quality of broth and noodle due to price, then I suggest to try some of the Ramen and other udon places in town, like in Japan centre or other noodle joints in Soho, which are perfectly tasty.
Their, prices are cheaper but in my opinion for obvious reasons.
I believe the reason for the pricing at Koya is because of the ingredients they use and work that goes into the process. I think it's refreshing that they don't go on about how local, seasonal and organic the produce is as clearly in their opinion it's the required standard.
Don't get me wrong I cook up frozen dumplings and throw them in msg filled freeze dried noodles at the end of the month when the ££ are in less excess, which is why I so enjoy Koya when I get the chance.
V. V. W.
Looks very sleek and corporate like but Koya City in both menu and prices are very similar to its Koya Bar in Soho. The small plates are different but the udons and rice based dishes remain the same. The broth was served hot which i thought was much better than their the Soho branch. Seating is more spacious both by the bar and on individual tables. Friendly staff. Spent about £45 for two; two bowlful of udons and a tempura on the side. No drinks. A little pricey for lunch but left feeling satiated.

Great udon. Not had anything like this good outside Japan. Dishes haven't been westernised and so flavours were great and not overstated. Had the fish udon and chicken udon, portions were a good size but not excessive. Definitely going back.
F. L.
Not enough egg / meat ratio with respect to the rice for the dons given the price.
Otherwise a perfect restaurant which I love.
w. Y.
their templa udon was good but hiya-atsu templa upon, the onion and mushroom were undercooked. normally onion should be cut no more than 1cm but quarter(!). the eryngii mushroom was too big peace to be cooked, i bit but left them. the broth and noodle are tasty but only if those templa were cooked properly it would be 5★
J. T.
I will definitely be returning, I had the Udon noodle soup with Spring Onion and Sweet Tofu, it was clean, simple and delicious, can't wait to try more dishes!
S. M.
I cannot dispute that the udon is very tasty. Handmade udon with super tender thinly sliced fatty beef. However, it was over £13 for just that. I think we should have some perspective, at the end of the day it’s a bowl of noodles with a small portion of beef.
S.
I love Koya... Simply in my top 10 restaurants of London. Both the Koya in City and in Soho are little heavens of peace and amazing tasty and inventive food. I wish the one in city had as much choice as the one in Soho for the specials of the day.
w. x.
When you hold up the udon w chopsticks, the noodle breaks off which is a sign that the udon isn’t firm or has been cooked long before serving. Very average
C.
It was good but not amazing. Kindly staff, quick service and clean seats.
K. R.
Nice place. Food is good but not amazing. Quite basic and unexciting. I'd definitely go elsewhere for good ramen. Gets quite busy so best to reserve a table in advance.
J. J.
One of my favourite place! I would love to come here as many as I can! All dishes are fabulous!
g.
Pleasant atmosphere but food was nothing special. Particularly the Atsu-Age (tofu) not quite what I expected.
P. S.
Great udon but everything else pretty Western and too salty. Make sure you get there early and get ready to get kicked out as soon as you finish. That said the staff is very friendly. Very convenient location.
D. D.
One might say this is the best, most genuine japanese food outside of Japan itself. Koya City has some real and traditional Japanese foods and dishes. keep ann open mind and try a bit of everything.
K. W.
I sat outside the restaurant it had good lighting with a glass covered ceiling from the outside elements. As the day draws towards the late afternoon and evening there is hologram show on the floor. My pet hate is the lighting was so dark I had to improvise the torch setting of my mobile phone to see where my food is on the table.
T. K.
Great Japanese food in a simple but cleverly designed environment.
M. P.
Uncomplicated, delicious noodle dishes. Japanese breakfast is spot on as well.
G. M.
Very tasty noodles! Sizes are on the small side so order side bites if you are very hungry
J. D.
One of the best Ramen joints this side of Tokyo. Amazing salads, perfect service, decent value and authentic everything. Highly recommended.
A. S.
Brilliant service, and reasonable prices. Food is simple but tastes good.
Would definitely recommend the mushroom and walnut noodles!
A. E.
Great food, nice service 👌
J. L.
Really fast service and food was really really good. I would recommend getting the Home made pickles and beef gyudon. We had milk ice cream with sea salt caramel miso which I could have eaten twice.
M. B.
It's very very simple. Very subtle. But some how, if you like noodles, these are just the best. So there you have it: no fireworks, no fancy business, just the best noodles in Britain.
J. N.
The foods and service are amazing. Super quick too
D. L.
Lovely food and service!
P. A.
Loved the food!!! Lots of vegetarian options as well!!! The hot udon noodles are a must have along with the ginger tea!!
S. R. S.
Quick lunch in a very traditional restaurant! Highly recommended
P. K.
Noodles are amazing and I love them, their broths though are a bit blunt and offer no excitement.
J. C.
Speedy service and delicious food for a lunch in the City. Always hits the spot when you have a hankering for udon. The tempura prawns were huge!
A. v. M.
Friendly staff, great small plates.
M. R.
Nice and cozy place. Good broth and flavor, but a bit heavy on the udon
E. L.
Best Udon in London!! Really friendly service and convenient location
N. H.
Udon had really good consistency!
+ outdoor heating!
S. Y.
Decent quality with good udon and pork belly. The tempura was a fail though - way too much batter.
D. B.
Really enjoyed the cold udon with beef! Was able to get a table on the patio for an early Fri dinner quite easily.
Y. N.
Very Good food. Feel A bit expensive, especially toppings. Hope they offer large portion (noodle x 1.5).
T. K.
The udon noodles were super chewy and the broth was delicious. 😍
The prawn heads which were kind of flavorless though.
J. C.
Simple dishes, can’t go wrong.
I.
Food was good but unfortunately the service was not at all. Waitress was not friendly at all, and honestly made the whole experience unpleasant. A shame because I had heard really good things about the place. Hope the service improves!
C. L.
Great udon and unexpectedly yummy sesame cookies! Definitely less crowded than their soho branch.
M. M.
Loved it! Really nice and quiet place in the heart of London. Noodles were great and would definitely come back.
N. L.
The udon noodle soups are the best!!! I always come away so happy and full.
K. Y.
Highly recommend this place! I love the udon here! Less crowded than the one in Soho
H. Y.
Food was great but definitely overpriced, even in the city. £30 per person for a small bowl of noodles and a glass of wine. Left hungry.
C. C.
Bit of a hidden gem imo. Some great food and a solid location
A. G.
Always a load of Japanese people here, so you know it's good. Delicious food, reasonable price given the area.
R.
Udon made in house. Everything is authentically Japanese (which is hard to find, and means Londoners may not "get it").
A. S.
Bigger and cozier compared to the Soho location. The food is absolutely amazing and the restaurant is really warm and intimate inside.
H. R.
Love this place. They do authentic Udon noodles with reasonable price
A. W.
Really good food here, try the specials as they are some times made by the cheifs and are very tasty too. Try to pre book as you can sometimes wait here
s. c.
Food is good, but way over priced and udon is plain with just meat or just veggies.
M. G.
Very good place
Great food n staff also
L. R.
Delicious fresh udon noodles, ginger tea and lovely staff. Recommend :)
P. S.
Tasty Udon Noddles. Friendly service, not cheap but discount if you are with someone from Bloomberg.
P. C.
Mega delicious noodles in the city. Open on a Saturday when many other restaurants are closed in this area.
E. T.
❤️❤️❤️ so nice. Love vibe, service and best noodles I’ve ever had.
Á. L.
Excellent Japanese UDON noodles, and really good service! With special mention to Nancy!
M. R. d. R.
Great udon, amazing flavour and texture. And they have the hot and cold versions
L. E.
Great staff but some of the food was disappointing.
P. K.
Very good Udon in my opinion and an opinion seconded by Japanese friends and colleagues of mine.
J. L.
Fantastic and authentic udon. Great variety of choices and toppings
L. A.

P. F.
Great authentic Japanese food. Good portions, reasonably priced.

Loved the food, you can choose multiple options. Healthy and fresh.
A. E.
Busy at lunch, not the best ramen but pretty tasty!

Lacking a bit of flavour and small portions. Decent service.

(Translated) The service is full, the environment is clean, and the focus is on the delicious food! The cold udon noodles are very springy, the taste is elegant and refreshing, and the thin noodles of wild vegetable tempura will be good
