Reviews of Mamak Don
J. L.
As legit as it gets to Singaporean/Malaysian Food. Comfortable and well spaced out restaurant.
My go to restaurant for a legit taste of hawker food back home!
I’ve tried:
- Char Kway Teow
- Penang Char Kway Teow
- Nasi Lemak
- Satay
All fantastic and well suited to my Singaporean-Malaysian palate!

Had a lovely meal here with friends.
The service was quite fast despite being busy saturday lunch rush and the food came very quick. The food was so delicious. Every dish we tried was tasty, fresh and a very decent portion. We had tofu peanut sauce which was delicious, laksa, okra aubergine, fried rice and roti. It was all so nice and definitely authentic flavours and recipes. The pricing is not cheap but its reasonable for the food. Would definitely recommend.

The starters were the best ! The fried shrimp with the spicy mayo was my personal favorite. I was a bit annoyed that the waitress kept removing plates when there was sauce left in them because I was intending to eat it at my own pace but I felt rushed. We also had satay chicken skewers which I found a bit dry and spicy anchovies baos which were a bit too hot to handle. My friend said her chicken rice was not as good as she expected but my butter cheese chicken main was a hit! The flavour was something I never experienced and the portion was big enough. The waitresses were polite but not super engaging. The place is really big and got quickly full around 12:30 -1pm. They kept bringing tap water to our table when our glasses were empty which I appreciated very much. I personally found the tables for two to be very close to one another which was not super enjoyable as we could hear everything from the two persons seating next to us.

Today, went to Mamak Don for 2nd day Chinese New Year meal - avoiding Chinatown. Having fish head curry as the auspicious Chinese New Year meal 👏👍⭐. The servers are very helpful, very attentive, giving great service. Having such a relaxing meal with my husband. Food were delicious. Highly recommended👍❤⭐⭐⭐
H.
Good authentic nasi lemak. Price reasonable. Staff were friendly and allowed us to move tables. Would not recommend the laksa.
M. H.
Randomly went there after 10.30pm, pretty decent Malaysian place, lots of choices and happy that it was still opened and serving food (quick and fast)! The crispy prawns were yummy, my Mee Goreng was okay - but not the best I’ve had. Same goes for the cheese roti..
A. M.
This is great malaysian restaurant in my opinion. This is comparable with rasa sayang in my opinion. They are both great not like roti king (ew). It makes me missing malaysian food so much. This is recommended and would probably come back in a near time again. Server is polite and ambience is good as well!
R. A. I.
Second time for Singapore curry noodle. Despite a mistake (my order was misheard and the wrong dish came), it was replaced quickly with the correct one. Not surprised as the noodle was consistently delicious.

Coming from Bournemouth our first day in London after the lockdown, Jess and I had our first Malaysian food experience in Camden Town. Here we are at Mamak Don. Call me fussy, but I belive a true Malaysian cuisine experience is not about the food but also the hospitality.
The nasi goreng kampung I had was spot on. Very flavourful, generous with the anchovies and spice.
Jess had the fried kuey Teow. She liked it, but to me, I like my CKT, dry and well "char" with eggs and cockles ( which is impossible to find here). The CKT at mamak Don is more penang style, wet.
I wasn't to impressed with the hospitality, besides a homely environment decor, the customer service was just " meh ". Despite only two tables occupied and ours there's wasn't much interaction from the waiter and the captain. Probably the fact that they see too many Malaysians in London so it's not worth striking a friendly conversation. Go there if you want to eat and go :)
J. F.
Pleasant Malaysian restaurant with varied menu and fair prices. Food very enjoyable and many South East Asian customers which is a good sign. Friendly service except presented bill unasked and rather too promptly after main course.
G. T.
Family run Malaysian street food restaurant.
Bright, comfortable dining room, rattan chairs with upholstered seats, wood tables, paper napkins. Seats about 56. Tile flooring, but noise level is low with a hint of music in the background. Whimsical decor that fits the Camden Town neighbourhood, with a Malay touch. No outdoor dining. Sidewalk outside sometimes has lineups for shows at neighbouring venue. Clean bathrooms with air hand dryer. Very decent drinks menu.
Vegetable satay- 5 delicious skewers of chewy gluten chunks grilled and served with savoury roasted peanut satay sauce with just a hint of spice, garnished with chunks of red onion, pineapple and cucumber. Perfectly browned and crumpled roti canai, fluffy and layered. Combo plate of miso sesame eggplant (aubergine) tender and mild/curried vegetables (broccoli, okra, baby corn, eggplant, carrot, snow peas, green beans (haricots verts), tomatoes and herbs in a zingy gravy/golden tofu: fried triangles stuffed with greens and topped with peanut satay sauce on a bed of shredded lettuce, with a sweet & sour “pickle” (more like a slaw), and coconut rice. Dip your roti in the gravy of the curry, and thank me later! Too full for dessert- I actually took some away for lunch the next day. 10% service charge. Cards accepted.
Definitely not a one-time visit!
W.
Food was decent, though my experience was from takeaway. Only downsides was that our order took 45 minutes in total - a 15 minutes wait in a polished looking restaurant. There was also a fly found in a friend's food, but that's ai say on that point. Small, but a comfortable little restaurant to dine at. Only one experience, so not much else to say. I won't post the picture of the incident, as I don't want to be petty and my friend's previous experience of the place was fine.
M. O.
Very tasty food, I'll go back, but cheeky waiter tried to get a tip over and above the service charge. So, when you pay by card don't rush to press % tip and check that service charge is already included. And, the waiter removed the plate even when I was holding the food. Loads of tables were empty so there was no need to rush
T. Y.
Make sure you check opening times before you go. They have reduced opening hours since covid, and is only open for dinner most days.
Deep fried baby squids were a nice surprise, so flavorful with spices. Many restaurants would serve deep fried seafood with sweet chili sauce since the food itself didn't have much flavour. Not here. There was confidence in the simple lime wedge.
Would've loved to try the hainanese chicken rice as well, but seems quite overpriced at 13+ GBP.
P. H. P.
Ordered penang asam laksa, nasi lemak with sambal prawn and deep fried baby squid. Penang asam laksa was really nice and authentic, nasi lemak taste abit different from the normal coconut rice in Malaysia, but the sambal prawn is really good and delicious. The portion is very generous as well. Deep fried baby squid is very tasty as well, just like what we had back in Malaysia. Rich in flavour, generous portion, more reasonable price compared to other Malaysian restaurant in central London. Not crowded at all when we go. Definitely will go again and try other food.
L. L.
Nice restaurant near Camden station but clearly some issues with communication between waiters/chefs. I asked for stir fried noodles and clarified it would not have egg in which the waiter said it would not. Arrived with egg in and when I questions it the waiter accused me of lying, showing me his notepad that he didn’t write without egg (his mishap and not my fault). Also at the same time the customer next to me who was vegan got served pork in her ‘vegan’ main. The waiter offered half heartedly to change my main but I then would’ve had to wait an extra half hour and my friend would’ve been long finished eating. Wouldn’t return but could be nice if this issue is fixed
N. R.
The roti with sambal was to die for! So delicious and full of flavor. The food came out quite quick here so it's good if you're hungry, but they did not compromise on quality. Very delicious and authentic to southeastern Asian cuisine.
D. K.
Some things were good and some weren't. I would say that the nasi lemak, rendang, char kuey teow and wat dan hor fun were average. Roti was poor but the curries that came with roti were good. Ikan bakar and satay were the best dishes. I may come back as they potentially had an off night due to EOTHO.
R. M.
The flavours are sensational. Always order way to much but more to take home.
L.
Decent Malaysia street food! I love the crispy chicken rice and the chicken satay!
G. C.
Having lived in singapore for quite some time, I’ve struggled to find authentic chicken rice in the city. I’m so happy we found this place, it is by far the most authentic Malay/Singaporean food I’ve had in london - legit felt like we were sat at the holland village hawker centre.
Q. T.
Singapore curry noodle and the crispy fried shrimps are really good! Beef ho fun is not spicy as suggested on the menu but is similar to what I used to have in Canton. The milk tea is quite similar to Hong Kong milk tea although a bit too sweet. The only thing we don’t quite like is the lamb curry (not in the pictures; the portion is a bit small and tastes strange). Fair price and nice environment! Service is quick. Would come back again!
L. M.
The dishes they serve remind me of home - I think that’s enough description of how much I love this place. Food is authentic with excellent service. I’ve never been disappointed and hence the reason for repeated visits each time I’m in London. Their nasi lemak is my personal favourite. Last time I visited I was craving for their keropok lekor (also a must-try) starter but I was disappointed they didn’t have it in stock. Understandably due to covid it affects shipments of their ingredients from Malaysia. At least that would be one of the many excuses for me to come back!

If you want a truly authentic Malaysian food experience in London, come to this restaurant. Mamakdon is located in the heart of Camden, and features a hipster Malaysian resto vibe.
Unlike other restaurants which are all looks and no taste, Mamakdon offers a wide variety of delicious Malay cuisine. Easily taking the cake would be the chicken satay, which came with an awesome peanut sauce that is to die for.
No Malaysian restaurant would be truly authentic without offering nasi lemak. Mamakdon's version was true to form, coming with a very tasty sambal sauce that you would like to take home after.
Other delicious things to order include the butter curry chicken, fish sausages, peanut encrusted prawn and curry lakhsa.
The food was cheap, the service congenial, and the atmosphere Asian. Will certainly return here soon!
e. h.
The best satay in town. Laksa Nasi lemak with curry chicken or beef are soooo good. It's makes me hungry again.
G. L.
Absolutely authentic Malaysian food! This place surprisingly me when my first dine in. Love their satay sauce, mee goreng, nasi lemak and roti tisu! Definitely will be back again and again!
F. C.
The Malaysian place is quite authentic, the dishes are tasty. Tried the Singapore curry noodle and the special blue rice set. The sauce comes with roti is nice too. Will come back again.
T. C.
Decently priced . Got a take away. Unfortunately the chicken was dry in my noodles. And the Malaysian Kung pao chicken was a few pieces with mainly chopped cooked red chilies and 3-4 cashews. Limited on spice. The coconut rice barely had any coconut flavor. Best dish was the stir fried mixed vegetables!
G. Q.
A hidden Malaysian gem in the centre of Camden! I find it so hard to find good authentic Malaysian restaurants in London which offers more rustic and home style cooking and dishes, Mamak Don certainly fills that criteria. On a day where you're just craving really deep, layered and intense flavours from a rendang and want to mop it all up with a roti canai, this is certainly the place. The food here is real comfort food and tastes amazing. The rendang, roti canai and Malaysian fried chicken are a must have, good size portions and great value. I could have easily just ordered various roti's and gravies and that would have been perfect.
S. S.
Great authentic food that tastes just like it does in Malaysia. Quick easy relaxed service, the atmosphere is great and such a friendly ambience from all the customers. Will surely come again.
M.
Food was delicious! Atmosphere, and staff were really nice.
d. v.
Disclaimer: this is NOT a Thai food restaurant (even though they do sell some Thai food)
If the food tastes bad, it's not because it's bad but rather because that's how it's meant to taste like
(Most of the time)
E.g. Penang Laksa is not for the faint hearted and can taste really vile unless you are a fan of that rich, decadent prawn brain juice taste
Nasi lemak with chicken is really lemak - love it! But portion size is not as big as commented by other reviewers
Real authentic char kway teow has cockles! - (this is not real authentic char kway teow) maybe some mussels to substitute will be nice?
Pulau/bubur hitam is NOT pulau/bubur hitam at all - try the real thing in Singapore/Malaysia! - absence of coconut milk flavour is blasphemous! (But call it any other dish and it would have been quite lovely. Generous portions of glutinous rice! Please share the calories with a friend / friends!)
Bandung is obscenely overpriced considering it is just (rose) syrup water and condensed milk - both of which store and ship easily. Tbh even if it is sold at 99p, the profit margins would have been big enough
Overall some hits and misses, but there are enough hits for me to come back and try other foods for a taste of home - partly because the queue at roti king is simply too absurd!
W. K.
Great Malaysian restaurant with nice decor and most importantly solid food. We ordered quite a few dishes and most of them were really delicious. The char kway teow especially had great wok hei. Highly recommended and will definitely return to try out more items in their menu.
H. S.
As an older couple first time out in a while out so chose carefully. Really friendly service but the restaurant is deep so if you are at the front - they do not always see you. Still a bit covid quiet so overly busy around 8pm on Friday. Food is brilliant - lots of unusual tasty flavours and huge variety and quite cheap - food ex drinks at about 20 quid per head for about 3 small-ish dishes - almost tapas like served in a random order. Also right in Camden so great to have a wander around afterwards to see the sights and walk off that absolutely stuffed feeling. Will be coming back for sure !
E. W.
Great quality of the food. Taste wise very close to the full potential. Overall recommended
S. T.
Our first visit and we were craving some Malaysian food!! We came after it was recommended on a Facebook group and we weren't disappointed. We ordered the Nasi Lemak with chicken curry, the Mamak Don mee and the prawn wonton soup. The Mamak mee was delicious - a yummy, sticky and slightly sweet sauce covered a generous portion of noodles full of veg and chicken. The chicken curry that accompanied the Nasi Lemak was mouth-watering and you could tell it was freshly made. They had good a helping of rice and enough ikan (dried fried crispy fish) and peanuts on the side, with a generous portion of sambal, their sticky and sweet chili sauce. The service was wonderful. Very friendly, chatty and attentive. Definitely would come here again!
p. h.
Thought this is the answer for my quest of great SE Asian food. The food choice here is plenty but just cannot bring back my good memory in similar shops in Australia, let alone Malaysia/Singapore. Will continue searching.
F. B.
The food was ok, a downside was that I asked for my food to be extra spicy and they said ok, but the food i received was bland - nandos lemon and herb chicken is spicier. The wait times for the food were ridiculous but given that we came during eat out to help out, it makes sense that they were busy. On a good note, the portions were generous for the price, and the service was good considering how busy they were.
C.
Very authentic Malaysian food at very reasonable prices. Highly recommended
First time outside Malaysia, I’ve had chicken satay that has been properly marinated and the same for the peanut sauce. Completely authentic and absolutely delicious
The Nasi Lemak was absolutely fantastic. Generous portions, delicious sambal, fried anchovies that have been properly cleaned and filleted, proper coconut rice. The prawn sambal was also great.
The Mamak Mee was nice but the flavour felt toned down or watered down. Needs to be a bit more prominent.
W. M.
Very good nasi lemak.
Assam laksa also excellent flavour, and good to see it on the menu as it isn't an easy dish to find.
I found the roti to be quite average though. Roti King is better for that.
S. S.
Friendliest staff I’ve ever come across! Amazing food, really authentic. Be sure to try out their crispy prawns, they’re amazing and made from oats?!
J. S.
My current favorite go to Malaysian restaurant. Trendy place with super yummy dishes. Haven't had one I didn't like yet!
W. A.
Great place if you want to try something different. Of course everything is very spicy (even the things not marked with a chili on the menu) but tasty and interesting. You should order two dishes if you're hungry (each costs around 7-8£) or one with additional rice (3£) for the small hunger. Friendly staff and my only improvement proposal is to serve everything together instead of bringing it out one by one, so that one person already ate half of their dish while the other one is still waiting.
A.
This is the best Malaysian and southeast Asian restaurant I’ve eaten at! If you like calamari, you have to order the fried baby squid (amazing). We order 2 starters 4 mains 3 drinks which cost a total of £70. The pricing is very affordable and the food is very delicious, I would go again with friends.
s.
Absolutely authentic Malaysian food! Filled my Asian stomach!
A. L. W.
I was lured in by the smell wafting to outside, and thought maybe I should try it( I've never tried Malaysian food before) wasn't dissapointed. Was pretty yummy, only thing is some of the lamb was fatty which is a turnoff. Customer service was pretty good, the guy was nice, and enthusiastic.
k.
Authentic Malaysian dishes that tasted really great. Portions are reasonable to the prices and the staff provided great service. Really good ambiance. Recommended to those who might miss the food from back home while in London.
v. T.
Authentic and delicious Malaysian restaurant. I am so happy I have finally find this restaurant with different variety of foods. Whenever I have homesick I will definitely come to Mamak Don.
D. C.
Really authentic food, love the roti & curry. Already tried the different types of grilled fish a few time and never get disappointed.
W. H.
Best Malaysia food I have had in years!
Even my Malaysian friends think this is the place to eat authentic Malaysian food!
A. S.
Manak is a unique & authentic experience with the food, decor and staff. I visited with my wife after a long day of work and it made us feel relaxed. The intimate areas and the friendly welcome from the owner was amazing. Our food was given to us within mins with a great portion size and price. Thoroughly enjoyed eating here and would recommend it to anyone. We will be back soon! 🙌
h.
Great tasting Malaysian food, large portion sizes. Lots of seating inside, reasonable prices.
M. W.
The dishes are actually very tasty and that’s despite the nasi lemak being served on a fridge cold plate. The other annoying thing about this place is your dining companion’s dish might turn up like 15 minutes before yours! I’ll upgrade a notch once I try some more dishes and ignore the laissez faire service.
A. I.
Reasonable malaysian food, a lot on offer on the menu but that can impact quality although Excellent service
K. C.
Totally stumbled upon this hidden gem.
Food was gorgeous, and certainly great flavours.
Here are some pics.
Definitely heading back next time
A. R.
Food is amazing. Excellent service. Highly recommended & will definitely go back for more. I am a happy bunny.
P. L.
Mix reaction on the food. The curry were great, beef melted in the mout amazing but the prawn galic chilli starter was so salty we couldnt eat it
J. C.
Tasty and authentic nasi lemak and satay. Portions are massive so consider sharing the mains if you are having starters as well.
a. k.
Best Malaysian food in London I've had so far. Great service too.
D. A.
Delicious sauces, but wish they offered the meat dishes off the bone as an option.

Excellent Malaysian food. I've eaten at Zheng in South Kensington and Rasa Sayang in Soho but I prefer the food here. Unfortunately they had sold out of the Penang Char Kway Teow, but my wife had the Chicken Char Kway Teow, which was great. I had the special - Hainanese Chicken Rice, which was wonderful. We also managed Roti with chicken curry, another hit.
And with drinks and service, it came to about £42.
N.
I did not enjoy my laksa. It was just a fishy soup. It was lacking other flavours. I had laksa in Malaysia and this was just on another level. The nasi lemak was great. We also liked the rottis very much
M. A. M.
Went on a Saturday for lunch.
Food. We ordered the Hainanese steamed chicken rice, mee goreng mamak and butter chicken with white rice. Food tasted like authentic Malaysian food and was delicious. Portion was good too, our party of 3 left the restaurant stuffed.
Price was not too bad and was affordable. Restaurant had a nice ambiance and had some nice Malaysian music that was being played in the background.
Wouldn’t hesitate to give them another visit whenever we’re in Camden.
m. h.
Situated next to Camden Jazz Cafe, unassuming 'street food' restaurant. Good range of options on menu, not expensive...I got a boring option as I needed to eat quick and leave, but will go back to try other items on the menu. Halal, for those that do.
A. N.
Delicious food and great value. Groups can eat for really cheap if you order right. Remember to get the Malaysian tea or milk drinks!
C. M.
Incredible authentic South East Asian cuisine! Great service and great atmosphere! Would recommend Mee Goreng and Ayam Goreng Berempah. Ask for it spicy!
Z. T.
Good food ,friendly and fast service
D. P.
Love the food and the customer service. Great experience. Bare in mind that food is really spicy even when they suggest it is not. Best place to get a really Thai experience
m. k.
The best Malaysian food in London. Well Done.
M. L.
Assam Laksa is good with mackerel. Mee goreng and roti canai is average.
A. A. S.
Food super delicious! We tried Roti canai combo, nasi lemak, mee goreng mamak, and Hainanese chicken rice. Restaurant is very clean, and customer service is great! Highly recommended ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
F. C.
Really authentic and delicious food, will be coming back again!
A.
Wonderful authentic food at a great price especially considering the location! Everything is home made and tastes divine. Highly recommend!
K. T.
Great malaysian food here with small snippets from Indonesian and Thailand as well. Tucked away in the corner of Camden, a must visit.
P. J.
Delicious Malaysian cuisine that is authentic. The restaurant also offers a wide variety of menu you can choose from. Friendly service is another plus.
J. R.
Had a very tasty Nasi lemak with sambal prawn. Good portion, filling, good price. I'm coming back to work my way through the menu 😁
Y. Y.
The food was good. I order pineapple rice but there is not pineapple at all....it is different from what I had before in singapore...
M. S.
Always brilliant, crunchy chicken and roti canai are solid favourites for every visit.
J. K.
Best chicken rice and roti canai. Delicious food. I would come here again.
E. C.
Good option to have lunch or dinner in Camden Town. The food is good, the staff is friendly and the price is very reasonable.
a. g.
Nice portions, friendly staff and tasty food
A. K.
Nice food. Satay is good. Kway teow is good. Sambal prawns delicious. Fried chicken though was tasteless :(
P. x.
Great food. Enough choices. From less spicy to very spicy ( for me:))
A. C.
The golden tofu and Singapore curry noodle are to die for!! Excellent food, good value and nice decor
A. W.
I recently discovered this restaurant and am obsessed!! I ordered takeaway twice in the same week because it was that good. There is so much flavor packed into their dishes and everything is SO fresh. 10/10 would recommend!
D. C.
Reasonable price & great atmosphere for gathering. The food is good.
A. C.
Super tasty. Great food, reasonably priced. Only negative is if you're an allergy sufferer of some sort or veggie. We had to ask specifically on each dish if it had shellfish in it, even tho we had informed our server of the allergy from the start. We still ended up having to send back a dish because our server was that oblivious. Food was great and the service was very nice otherwise, but of you're deathly allergic to something, maybe avoid.
A. R.
In the area for a gig and decided to try something new, the place looks rustic but the food is fantastic. I ordered lamb and my husband ordered fish and the flavours were amazing, absolutely delicious. Will definitely be eating here again next time we are in the neighbourhood.
L. G.
Excellent authentic food and lovely staff. Highly recommended
o.
Good food and decent service. Can't complaint
R. H.
We were actually feeling like we travelled to Asia.
Food quality is great, prices are reasonable and portions are large.
s.
This restaurant serves truly authentic malaysian dishes. The food tastes as good as the colourful pictures on the menu and I would especially like to commend the chef on the mee goreng mamak( you could say even better than the ones you get in malaysia) the fish curry and the nasi lemak. Malaysians please go here!
s. e.
the first time i tried mamak don food is very tasty worth the price
G. G.
Mamak Don is amazing, I stumbled on it by accident with a friend much earlier this year and quickly decided it's my new favourite restaurant. I've visited numerous times, and have never been let down. The restaurant is simple and the food delicious, perfect for an informal date night, dinner with friends or a casual meal out.
I particularly recommend the golden tofu, - even if you're not a fan of tofu - and the Singapore curry noodles; just dripping with flavour.
A. W.
Excellent Food 😋 and nice Friendly Staff 👌
C. D.
Great introduction to Malaysian food, we even took some to take away! Seems preferable to book as it’s busy. The prices are reasonable and the portions are big. Definitely recommend!
A. H.
Great food! The chicken rice and char kway teow were a standout. Will come back again :)
T. J.
Authentic Malaysian experience. Friendly and prompt waiters. Good price decent location. Definitely worth a visit. Ordered the nasi lemak. Only had 2 problems with it. One not enough ikan bilis and peanuts. And I always find that the condiments always roll under the leaf so u miss out on some
M. P.
Very reasonably priced and with very friendly service. Good options for vegans as well as meat eaters - had the prawn assam curry and would definitely go back again!
S. A.
Food is always amazing in there. But if you order few dishes , they will bring the food out of the kitchen at different times which can be annoying. As they would serve you the Rendang but the roti will come from the kitchen 5-10 minutes later so your sitting there looking at the curry. This has happened most of the times we went there . Apart from that everything is good. Service is not bad, the staff are quite friendly, attentive and polite. The milk tea is amazing.
F. M.
Great Malaysian food with plenty of options in an authentic-feeling cafe setting.
M. T.
A little restaurant just a stones throw from Camden tube station, being in such a touristy area we we're expecting much, but we were pleasantly surprised. The prawn with oatmeal and chilli starter I had was bloody lovely and well worth ordering if you are there.
J. K.
Fantastic food and great service!
The curry soup is great-a bit spicy with coconut milk! I also really enjoyed the mild broth with vermicelli noodles. The beef curry was amazing too.
Definitely coming back. It’s 1min from Camden Town tube station. Go go go!
A. C.
You will notice the interesting decor of the restaurant as soon as you arrive, and we liked it as it reminded us of rural Malaysia. Despite what some other reviews say, we found the Service was OK on our visit. The dishes we ordered when we visited were reasonably priced but taste wise was a mixed bag, if you aren't Malaysian or Singaporen you might not notice the things I'm about to say and enjoy the food regardless, but if you are you might want to read on. The nasi lemak had no coconut taste at all; the assam laksa was too watery and lacked fish; the roti canai was hard and not flaky; the nasi goreng was tasteless and boring, however, the dhal that came with the roti canai was thick, luscious and full of flavour; the beef satay was juicy and succulent and the peanut sauce it came with was heavenly. The sago pudding was also delicious and definitely recommended. So would I go again? Yeah probably, to try the other ones out so that I know what to avoid and what to recommend. So give it a go yourself and make up your own mind.
B. L.
Excellent and very authentic Malaysian restaurant. Just like home food (I am Malaysian). Very friendly service and nice wooden decor. Probably the best Malaysian in London. Am working my way through the menu. You will find Malaysians frequenting here. Reasonable prices too.
N. F.
Really loved all the classic dishes we tried and the atmosphere was nice and cosy too. A bit pricey but worth it for an authentic good quality Malaysian meal. Will definitely come back!
V. V. W.
Proper true Malaysian flavours. The front of the restaurant is probably cooler but lighting wise for photographing food is better being at the back of the restaurant.
They serve Malaysian mamak style street food - roti tissue included! No fancy stuff. Just simple, no fuss, classic food. It is a large menu and everything we had was so good. Definitely warrant another trip back. Very soon!
Reasonable pricing, friendly staff. You might want to book ahead because they can be quite busy.

Food was great overall though the roti canai was a little doughy as opposed to flakey and I expected the assam curry to be sour
d. s.
Very authentic Malaysian food. Would come again on my next trip to London. Amazing authentic chicken Satay and Tamarind crispy fried chicken. Asam Laksa was as good as it can be done in UK considering it is difficult to get many of the ingredients. Overall, lovely meal and Im already missing the food again....
S. T.
We enjoyed the very delicious and fastly served food on a Saturday afternoon in this quiet and lovely family run restaurant. The portions were generous and the service was fast and friendly. We had soup and a nooddle dish and both were satisfying. Dishes at around £8-£9, enough to fill you up with spicy joy 😁.
R. H.
Wonderful tasty signature dish...very friendly wait staff and super speedy food and drink service...what's not to like?
S. Y. W.
The food is pretty authentic and worth to try.
N. 9.
Near4 Camden market....delicious and worth of money to eat...
#TakkanHilangNasiGorengDidunia

We ordered a range of dishes and enjoyed it all. The flakes butterfly prawns was delicious that we ordered another to take away. Tried the Tom yum seafood soup which is tasty if you like it mild. Service was good.
A. P.
I LOVE Mamak Don! Delicious authentic Malaysian food, friendly service, good prices and pleasant atmosphere. I love chicken Malaysian curry... Curry laksa, the tofu starters, the peanut satay etc.
k.
Overall food was good though I prefer if it was spicier. Nasi lemak and fried chicken was one of the best in London. Roti canai was dry and of no texture or taste, like a stale pita bread. Best to avoid and order their better dishes.
S. “. M.
My husband, our 2 toddlers and I just had the most fantastic meal here, by accident. After leaving the zoo late and eager to feed our hungry monkeys, I spotted Mamak Don. Being half Malaysian, I knew this had to mean Malaysian street food. So we thought we would try a couple of dishes and make our way home.
Unforunately they don't have high chairs but the girls sat well and the staff accommodated them really well. Bringing them out cumcumber slices and basically doing anything they could to keep them happy.
I couldn't decide what I wanted and also completely underestimated the portion sizes.
To start we had calamari (not my choice, normally can't stand the stand the stuff) and chicken satay. Both were fabulous, even the calamari won me over.
Main.
Beef Rendang, with coconut rice. Not to my taste, I just prefer it spicier, hubby loved it.
Roti and chicken curry. Heaven!
Nasi Lemak. One of the best I have had in a long time. My dad used to make it even supplied a store with it 30 years ago, so my standards are personal, ad close to my dad's as possible will always work for me.
Char Kway Teo with chicken. This tasted great but would have liked a mixed option, eg, prawns and chicken, however competely understand why the restaurant has taken this route on a few of the dishes.
Yes, definitely ordered too much and am excited thinking about my lunch for tomorrow.
I read reviews on here after going and found that some reviewers may have missed the point about Malaysian street food. Every mamak stall has different tastes for the same dish, in Malaysia. I went to Malaysia to celebrate my 40th eating 40 dishes, to get the dishes I wanted how I prefer them, we had to go to the right stalls. And the stalls specialise in a couple of dishes, never a full menu. So, when you eat there, don't expect to be just like anywhere else you have been, it wouldn't be like a "Mamak" stall if it was.
C. S.
Had beef satay for a starter, the roti canai with salmon assam curry, and the mee goreng mamak noodles with chicken. The roti and curry were incredibly delicious, and the rest were also very nice! Will definitely try to come back soon.
A. D.
Went for a leaving do, lots of very nice food. Seafood as well as chicken. Staff very attentive and brought us water whenever we asked. Very nice place, good for gatherings rather than couples. Gets busy in evenings so if you're going with a large group it's better to book in advance
B. D.
Food is good here ! Prices are moderate. The service however isn't very great. We had to wait quiet long for our order to be taken even though they were not busy. Good place to eat near Camden market if you're confused where to go. Food is really nice.
B. S. (.
Absolutely beautiful food and lovely attentive staff
M. M.
A very mixed meal. Overall everything was fine but it was nothing spectacular. The cereal coated prawns seemed like they were straight from the freezer and served in a steamed basket. The roti canai was underwhelming, however the dhal was nice. Similarly with the nasi lemak, so so dish but the curry had a good taste but too loose for my liking. Personal tastes. Ok but nothing amazing.
Y. L.
One of the best Malaysian food that I have been too. Lovely food with lots of variety. Service is excellent and a very personal touch.
A. B.
So...mamak don.... Food is tasty. But the best way to eat here is call ahead for take away. Everytime we've done dine in the service is messed up. They forget orders, deliver food at random times, one person may get their food 20 minutes after another does for example or an appetizer shows up at the very end of the meal, and just are generally disorganized. Somehow, whenever we do takeaway the food is all there and ready for us in 15 minutes. If you're a tourist during the summer you're better off calling for pickup and taking your food to eat on the canal.
K. S.
As a Malaysian abroad, I tend to get critical about restaurants that serves Malaysian food simply because us Malaysians know how awesome the food is. Mamak Don surpassed all my expectations! The rice of the nasi lemak was similar to the one from Malaysia and the sambal udang is to die for. We also had ayam percik for starters and the flavours were oh so yummy! They are very generous with their portions, you would have to drag your full tummy out 😆
Z. M. N.
Tasty dishes but could definitely be better and more fresh, roti was dry
S. P.
Amazing place! Very rare authentic Southeast Asia food. I have stayed in Singapore for four years and am very happy to find the same delicious food. Chicken satay is wonderful.
A. A.
I highly recommend this restaurant, on of the best in Camden
j. p.
Real Malaysia food, beancurd with peanuts source. Compare to Malaysia just slightly different, anywhere was good, must try beef satay. Highly recommend
G. T.
Decent food. A fair few vegan options. Some dishes taste mostly of soy sauce and are lacking a bit of flavour. But generally not bad for lunch.
A. A. T.
Food and environment was amazing! Great place to chill and get a taste of Southeast Asian food. Only downside is the staff. Despite work fatigue, they could show greater customer service and show some smiles!
C. S.
Good food, had lovely nasi kampung and bandung. The atmosphere is good but the service could be better. For instance drawing paper for kids (we received order ledger with black pen) would be nice. We had to remind them for our drinks after we received the food which was a bit annoying. Would go back and hopefully be able to give a 5/5.
K. M.
Value for money. Very inexpensive restaurant with surprisingly good food. Great variety of starters and mains. Go for their best dishes, marked with a asterisk in the menu. Service was prompt.
J. C.
Went him post cinema visit with an old friend Sunday afternoon. Lovely vibe to catch up and chat. No pressure to eat then leave nor did I feel like I was eating alongside strangers (rare for London!!!). We ordered chicken satay (amazing), Roti canal (powerful and spicy) and chicken chow kway tew (out of the world and very authentic). Prices were reasonable considering we both ordered drinks. Will definitely come again. 👍👍👍
A. O.
Malay food at its most authentic . Flavour, colour and smells all evoking the Malay spirit and culture secretly nestled in this little gem of a place. Super friendly and cheap too , you will easily imagine yourself far east forums feasting on the likes of Roti Cani and Nasi Lemak . Don't miss this one for sure!
R. D.
Great Malaysian food and a great atmosphere.
W. J. G.
Very authentic Malaysian food! Must try in London.
F. R.
Authentic Malaysian, Singaporean and Indonesian food. I've tried the Kampung Fried Rice and Roti Canai and chicken curry so far. Will be back to try more. Prices aren't crazy expensive, but most items aren't cheap either.
Place felt cozy and styled to look partly like a kampung (word for 'village' in Malay Language).
The washroom was clean when I was there.
k. s.
Nice experience... Good food.. Bit pricey tho!
V. F.
Food was good, but service for the most part wasn't very friendly and their kitchen which you could see through the small door window on the way to the bathroom looked really dirty. Even the hygiene rating of 3/5 that they hold from August 2018 looks slightly too high.
a. b.
Really lovely food. We stumbled upon this place on the way to a gig at the Dublin Castle just up the road, and we're really pleased we did. Really delicious, and very friendly service, and reasonable prices too.
W. L.
Restaurant area are spacious. Food is great when you're craving for Malaysian food. A bit more spicy would be perfect.
S. L.
All my friends are super like the foods, cosy interior and great location Camden Town. The foods taste are same as in Malaysia night market stall , very authentic. Highly recommend the roti canai, assam laksa, chicken satay and local drink teh tarik. Will be back soon.
Z. S. T.
Authentic Malaysian food, taste just like back in home. Reasonable price for large portions. Definitely recommend!

All I can say is 🤤🤤🤤. I would recommend the oak flakes prawns for starters. Absolutely delicious!

Very good Malaysian Restaurant in a great location, only a short walk from Camden Town tube station. Really tasty food and pretty good value - staff are good fun and helpful.
V. V. W.
Proper true Malaysian flavours. The front of the restaurant is probably cooler but lighting wise for photographing food is better being at the back of the restaurant. …
N. M.
You better know what your ordering because when they bring it to you it's straight authentic. Good prices not expensive
L. N. M. M.
We ordered the mee mamak, a traditional noodle dish and was pleasantly surprised that it tastes very much like it does back home. A quaint restaurant with authentic food would definitely recommend.

The iced Milo here really hits the spot and the food is bussin bussin'. This is real ASEAN food 🤙

Just like Roti King down the Euston.. I am Malaysian and work @warren st.. so I rate this restaurant pretty high.. at last a cosy places and family friendly.. if you want roti canai and quick food and authentic Malaysian atmosphere and tasty cuisine.. that’s a done deal!!
W. B.
I mean, it was good for trying something different, but overall I was honestly a little bit let down by the place.
Poor service, which I think should always be the main thing in a restaurant and the food was quite good, but nothing special.
M. K.
Great food (including my favourite dish in the world Roti Canai), friendly service and nice atmosphere.
S. A.
One of the better Malaysian places which serves larger variety of food... including keropok lekor and good laksa!
