Reviews of Shack-Fuyu Soho

Excellent food. The veggie fried rice was very well-seasoned and was so tasty. I think this is the best fried rice I’ve had while eating out. The french toast is a must-try dessert. The bread is warm and the toast texture pairs well with the soft matcha. It was a good dinner experience and will definitely come back to try more vegetarian items on the menu!
C. L.
We had a great lunch here! The miso aubergine dish was our favourite. The staff were super accommodating, they managed to fit us in without a reservation and were very friendly. Definitely worth a visit :)
P. A.
I ordered the beef hot stone rice, and it was delicious. The portion size was good. The Kinako Toast was also good. The guy who attended to me was really sweet and attentive. He asked whether I had any allergies and kept checking back to see if everything was great. I will definitely return next time I am in London.

Was highly recommended to
This place by a client of mine. Due to my experience, I shall be passing that recommendation onwards and onwards .
Isn’t it nice when you speak to waiter that does into detail happily about any item on the menu? Especially when it’s your first time, tried rabbit for the first time and it was lovely, all Of the food was excellent to be fair, well priced and excellent service and hospitality by Sebastian! I hope the manager is aware of such awesome staff

I see this place a lot on Instagram. It’s been on my list for a while and an occasion suited the bill - a fun lunch out that is relatively cheap as far as Soho goes. If I’m being real, it was average. I didn’t get the hype about their matcha ice cream and french toast. The beef tataki was lacking in flavour. The Katsu sando was lovely to be fair. There’s many better places to go, but maybe try it yourself! (@diningnotdashing)

5 stars for service, food, atmosphere, one of the best restaurants I have ever been to. Even though they were short on staff today the service was still excellent and we still got our food served quickly. The iberico sando sandwich was amazing and although I was scared to try the aubergine it was also very flavorful. We had the beef chili rice bowl which was great to share and the shrimp toast is a must try. We finished with the Kinako French toast and I would recommend ordering one each because it was so delicious I didn’t want to share! The hot French toast is a great blend with the soft serve matcha ice cream. Would definitely recommend and I will for sure be coming back :)
J. G.
Came for the green tea ice cream french toast and was not disappointed. Very yummy. But it gets a little heavy as it’s a large portion so it is shareable (or maybe not because I had to whole thing to myself). Would go back again just for the dessert

A very relaxed, vibrant place that is very popular.
The aubergine (with miso, bubu arare) was sweet and melt in the mouth, with an almost caramel flavour to it due to the miso.
The Korean fried wings (with spicy sour sauce, sesame) were insanely delicious (if a little messy, I needed about 3 wipes!). Some of the best wings I've ever had. YOU MUST TRY THEM.
I'm not usually a squid fan, but the crispy fried squid (with black pepper, lemon, red chillies, yuzu kosho mayo) were also amazing, so moreish.
We also tried the Prawn toast ("masquerading as okonomiyaki") which was well cooked and flavoured, with katsuobushi flakes giving it a nice umami, salty seasoning.
The Chashu pork bao bun was delicious, the sweet spicy soy and kimchee really made this stand out. The pork was tender and melted in the mouth and balance of sweetness and spice was perfect.
The only disappointing dishes were the 2 sandos we ordered (the rabbit katsu and Iberic katsu sandos). They were pretty dry and also the bread was quite greasy. Overall they didn't have much flavour. It's a shame as one of the main reasons we visited was for the sandos!
To finish we had the Kinako French toast with soft serve, matcha flavoured ice cream, which did not disappoint. It was very nice indeed. Melt in the mouth toast with oozy, soft ice cream which wasn't too heavy on the matcha flavour.
The service was pretty quick and attentive.
All in all a pleasurable visit and I would definitely go again.

Delightful food! The beef fillet with bernaise sauce was a highlight, as was the iberico pork katsu sandwich. The only slight downside(?!) is that the food was served incredibly quickly. Whilst that's ordinarily not a problem, we intended on having a long catch up in the restaurant but all food was served within minutes of ordering and we were in and out of the restaurant in 40 mins, which made it feel more like a fast food experience. Will definitely return for the food though!
E. A.
Have only ever been here for the Kinako toast but decided I would try dinner here instead.
Chilli beef hot stone rice (£10.25) was very bland - I couldn’t bring myself to finish it. Expect a light sprinkling of the beef - with the only saviour being the seaweed and shiitake mushroom that came on top. Came across several good reviews for this dish alone but was severely disappointed - perhaps it didn’t live up to my southeast Asian tastebuds.
The crispy fried squid (not pictured) was extremely salty, as was the yuzu kosho mayo.
Overall: restaurant subpar at best. Stick to the dessert and save your money. Far better Asian/Asian fusion restaurants next door at Chinatown.

Booked a table for 3 on Friday night for dinner. 2hr limit. The food was delicious!!! I enjoyed everything we ordered. We decided to order lots of plates - small and large - and just share everything. My favourites: Prawn toast - light and tasty, chicken wings, salmon boa buns, tuna taco and kimchi. Chicken Sando sandwich was large and impressive, very buttery but there are much more flavourful items on the menu. I'm not a fan of ceviche but it tasted ok, broccoli was also suprising tasty. kimchi rice bowel was very filling. I love macha and French toast - realllly enjoyed the dessert!!! Food comes out when it is ready not at the same time, it was slightly difficult to get the waitresses attention.
N. B.
Our expectations were probably too high. Lovely service but felt like the taste could have been kicked up a notch on most things. Our favourite dish we tried was the pulled lamb with buns small plate.
K. C.
Really delicious food. Really recommend the aubergine, chicken wings and of course the French toast.
Staff were friendly and efficient - although perhaps a little too efficient at times, we had several wait staff clearing plates from our table almost before we'd even finished with the dish. Not a major complaint but does make you feel a bit rushed when dining. The service charge is also quite high for a more casual restaurant, although the staff were very friendly so didn't mind paying it.
Would recommend booking, particularly at busy times (Sat afternoon for example)
C. B.
Fantastic food here!
We had a selection of small plates and one large plate between us as we couldn't decide. This was the best decision- we would definitely recommend doing this to get a taste of many different things.
Brilliant service in a central location in the heart of Soho.
K. D.
The prawn and chicken katsu sandwiches are out of this world! I could have eaten 2-3 on my own. Yuzu margarita was great. The star of the show though is the French toast with matcha soft serve. Come for that alone!
H. (.
I’d seen this spot doing the rounds and when shared by a friend, I decided it was time to indulge.
This was the kinako french toast with matcha ice cream. I’m lost for words to describe how phenomenal the toast was. It’s as if they marinaded the bread in egg mixture over night; it was incredibly gooey and soft and fluffy, and beautifully contrasted the powdery-caramelised outside which was analogous to creme brûlée. The matcha ice cream was firm yet smooth, but had a slight matcha-after taste which I do not particularly adore. However, they did complement one another.
The staff serving was super friendly and hospitable, but the table was not clean (which was a shame).
If you’re around London and want to experience unrivalled french toast (yes, far superior to Christopher’s), you have no excuse to come to Shack-Fuyu. 8/10.
J. K.
Legitimately top 5 place to eat in London.
Update: went again and the experience was just as amazing. Definitely my favourite place in London :).
I'd definitely recommend the spicy soy edamame, fried squid, any of the bao buns, and the SUKIYAKI STYLE WAGYU BEEF, and the lychee martini. You won't regret it.
Looking forward to coming back!
T. J.
Service was great. Did take 10 mins to get their attention to pay and leave but we were only there for dessert which was very nice, however the peanut powder on the French toast is very overpowering and so might not be to everyone’s taste!
A. O.
Just amazing, awesome atmosphere and really chilled. Staff were great, quick and helpful. We got the tasting menu and it was amazing, the miso aubergine and the macha French toast were absolutely delicious. Will be back for the toast!
E. L.
the VERY best french toast i have ever had in my life - 100% lived up to the hype! a must-try if you’re in London with a sweet tooth
V. C.
Love the vibes and the variation of food. The matcha ice cream on its own was a little overpowering but the French toast was just DIVINE. The dishes are a very smaller than seen online but would totally come back to try the favourites
E. L.
Every dish was fantastic. I initially came just for the dessert (which still is the best thing on the menu)
1 petite server was so friendly I just loved her. I wish I got her name for this review!
K. B.
Really tasty food! A little bit dark and noisy inside, but it doesn’t ruin the food experience. Amazing kinako toast with matcha soft serve, orange miso duck and pork bao!
P. C.
Lovely food. Really friendly staff. We had the lunch/pre-theatre menu, which wasn't quite enough for 2 greedy men, so also ordered the prawn toast 'masquerading as okonomiyaki' which was amazing.
Lots of people were coming in and ordering the Kinako French Toast with Matcha Soft Serve - apparently the 'desert of the season' this was also delicious. You get a half portion with the theatre menu, which is absolutely enough, the normal portion is very generous.
P. Y.
The staff were incredibly attentive and cheerful despite the chaotic overfilled atmosphere. While the place was cramped and with barely any space to shuffle about, the staff kept managing very well without at any point bothering the customers/needing them to shift their chairs.
The food was delivered quickly and was absolutely delicious. It was also reasonably priced and with good enough portions. Highly recommend the chicken and the radicchio!
The atmosphere was quite lacking. A cramped tight corridor basically. Incredibly loud when even a handful of people are there. But the food and the staff make it worth it.
Thankful for the great service received and will definitely be going again in the near future.
C. M. L.
The restaurant is very nice and cozy. Staff were very friendly.
Food was amazing. We shared 7 small dishes for 2 and it was enough. The tuna tacos and steamed broccoli were definitely the best ones. Love the aubergine too.
Price was good for the quantity and the quality
Will definitely come back again.

Tonight we tried the 8 course tasting menu to share at @ShackFuyu in #Soho.
It's a livley yet cosy Japanese inspired restaurant and the food is insane. Every item tasted truly amazing , you could tell the care they had taken with each item to perfectly cook it and fill it each dish with a huge amount of flavour.
Our 8 courses were ;
🐟Sea bass cheviche
🌿🌶️Sweet chilli soy Edame
🐔Korean fried Chicken wings
🍤prawn toast - large crispy dumpling with smokey tuna flake
🍆Miso aubergine
🍖iberico pork pluma with black pepper miso
🍚Hot stone fried rice
🍞🍵Kinako french toast & matcha ice cream
B. R. W.
We had set lunch, the price is reasonable. Chicken wings were really flavorful and crispy. Ceviche was alright, small portion. Beef was not so good as it was tough. French toast was good but too small.
J. B.
Had a great Sunday brunch here, unlimited small plates, followed by a main and a dessert with a cocktail on arrival and unlimited wine/prosecco. Will defo be back!
Small plates were varied but all excellent, really delicate flavours and 11 to choose from. The main was also good (6 to choose from, 2 veggie) but it would have been nice to have the option of a bowl of ramen (that this place is famous for).
Dessert was also fine but a choice would have been good and the one option wasn't really my thing, would have been happy with something boringly western for dessert.
Staff friendly and attentive, topped up our glasses reasonably promptly when needed.
Y.
Great selection on the menu which makes it easy to choose. All the food was yummy, but the dish I enjoyed the most and had to come back for 2 days later was the French toast and Matcha Ice-cream! ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING 😍
If you go here for dinner, be sure not to over eat and skip pudding because it will be a great loss on your behalf 😂
J. L.
Everything we ate was delicious, the lamb bao buns a particular highlight. Was actually not a huge fan of the dessert which others rave about (they only have one, French toast with Macha ice-cream - it was too fried and floral for my taste) but am more of a savory person anyway. We'll be back.
S. G.
Went here for brunch. Really tasty food, very clean place. Staff was friendly and observing social distancing!
Food was delivered quickly (never thought 'where is my food' 😉). The prawn toast was unique and really delicious. Would definitely recommend. 🙂
M. K.
Before my visit on Monday, the last time I came to London was in 2019 and had the French toast with matcha ice cream. It was probably the best French toast and one of the best desserts I had ever tasted. On Monday as well it seemed the quality was just as consistent. 5 stars for that 👍!
J. H.
Very nice restaurant, London prices (obviously) but all the food was very nice and well cooked. We had the set menu between 6 of us and you get lots of food, a few of the course are a bit questionable but from a getting to try everything point, it's does what it says on the tin. Super friendly staff even when it was super busy. Definitely one to recommend
A. N.
Booked table easily same day for lunch mid afternoon, had the set lunch menu with one small, one main and dessert, very reasonable price (£22 with service charge). Also benefited from eat out to help out so overall 3 courses with drink only £18. The Korean hot wings are some of the best wings I've ever had. The main was only okay but still good, and the dessert is well known and lived up to expectations.
F. B. N.
I’ve heard about this restaurant on Off-Menu podcast (by Ed Gamble and James Acaster) and I thought I need to give it a go. I was not disappointed! My partner and I went there for lunch and had the most amazing feast! The food, the atmosphere, the decor, the attentive and helpful waiters, even the funky toilets, the whole experience was unforgettable and I cannot wait until the next time I’ll be able to go there!
D. C.
best chicken wings we’ve had in a while. we also enjoyed the martinis, veggie katsu curry, and kimchi rice.
K. L.
The food was so delicious and the drinks were good too. We were definitely full afterwards!
Definitely recommend the spicy wings, and the kinako French toast (but probably share the dessert with someone).
The salmon tacos were slightly a let down but still nice enough.
S. M.
Food was out of this world. Everything was incredibly delicious. Highly recommend. Took a business meeting there over lunch. Perfect.
T. G.
The French toast is a must have! Always!
I love this restaurant. On the other hand, I became less impressed by the other food they offer here. I think the quality reduced a bit and they probably stopped caring about presentation. For example, the Korean hot wings and salmon avo roll in the attached pictures gave me no incentive to eat them. The Iberico curry was a bit disappointing for the price, the meat was dry and smelly, also too salty. Breadcrumb was too thick and greasy. I think for the price they charge, the quality should be better.
Also, the chair I was sitting on felt like it would collapse any moment.
A. C.
We had the tasting menu at Shack Fuyu. The food was a little hit and miss, veering on unmemorable, apart from dessert. Really enjoyed the edamame beans - the sauce on them was sweet, savoury and yummy. Seabass ceviche was fresh, citrusy and spicy, almost like the sauce on a thai papaya salad. Korean chicken wings were nice but had rather too much batter on them, while the miso aubergines were great, but half of the portion wasn't cooked enough and was hard and soggy. The iberico pork was nothing to write home about, either in the flavour of the meat itself or the sauce, and the stonebowl rice didn't taste of a lot until we added the sauce from the edamame. The French toast and matcha icecream, however, was fantastic - sweet, eggy, creamy, coconutty, balanced well with the slight bitter edge of the matcha softserve. That was the highlight of the meal. Service, however, was excellent and the staff were very accommodating.
c. h.
Great food and service. Good deal on pre-theatre menu too. Favourite things on the menu are the prawn sando and the crispy squid. Boyfriend said the iberico ham sando was amazing too. Wings are great but messy. The dessert is delicious but struggled to eat it all.
N. M.
Absolutely delicious food! The French toast and ice cream are TO DIE FOR, and the rest of their food is delicious too, including the salmon fillet, the mushroom appetizer, and the prawns. The only dish I didn’t really like is the tacos but other than that, it was an absolutely amazing meal!
M. C.
Came for the famous dessert: matcha and toast. Didn’t disappoint. Would love to be back to try the other food!
D. G.
Excellent!
Lovely restaurant, absolutely great, fresh food! Recommend the Wagyu Beef Tataki, Grilled Salmon Fillet, Sea Bass and Kimchi Hot Stone Rice… oh, and the Salmon Bao was quite something too!😋 And not forgetting the delicious Kinako and mochi ice cream! My 13 year old son loved it!
Last but not least, the staff were wonderful. Very friendly. Particular thanks go to the lovely Italian girl Francesca! She was courteous, patient - we had little idea of what we were going to eat - and she gave us very good advice! Great service all round… and bathrooms were very clean too!
See you again soon!

After hearing about the brunch at this restaurant I decided to book and treat a friend. We arrived at opening time and it was pretty much quiet which meant we got served pretty quick and the top ups from the bottomless brunch kept coming. From being greeted at the door to ensuring we were informed about the menu and how to order was just perfect. The staff were attentative and always there to clear the multiple dishes we had stacked after ordering 70%of the menu.. No joke. After a bellini on arrival the prosseco kept coming and if you enjoy a bottomless brunch I highly recommend Shack-Fuyu. Everything we tried was delicious with the exception of the salmon tacos which I'm still not sold on. Make sure you save room for dessert as it is heaven on a plate. Definitely looking foward to my next visit in the very near future.
C. W.
Incredible food - we had 6 dishes between 2 which was plenty. Highlights were the prawn toast and chicken wings. Service was great, place was buzzing. Will definitely be back. Try the yuzu frozen margarita - so tasty!!
B. S. (.
The hot stone rice was delicious. The chicken wings seemed as they were old or way to fried and had to serious taste to them, I kind of regret getting the wings. The squid was very good, Crispy and delicious. The Katsu Sando could have been done being less greasy which put me off it.
B. M.
Great menu selection for food and drinks. We ordered the tasting menu and there was only really one item (Padron Peppers) that we didn't totally love - but I have to caveat this with we don't tend to like green peppers in general.
I highly recommend the French toast and the Chili Beef Hot Stone Rice, they were our favourites of the evening.
The only thing preventing a full 5 star rating is the lack of accessible toilets and the noise levels in the restaurant were extremely loud. I was unable to hear my partner at times through the evening.
M. A.
Very nice restaurant with the a different twist on Japanese food. Seriously very tasty and the short ribs are a must! Feels like an 80s Japanese movie with all Japanese versions of US blockbuster movie posters and I just loved the simple decor.
The food was outstanding and came out very quick.
Be sure to order the Rice Bowl & Shrimp on Toast as well. All the food was good and the staff were very nice.
C. E.
The food was impeccable and the service was extremely quick and attentive. The restaurant itself is quite small and if you are seated in 2's, you may find other customers seated quite closeby. We had the express lunch with dessert - if you like matcha or trying something less commonly available, I'd recommend the french toast with matcha ice cream.
T. M.
Went here with my Best bud for dinner after a long day at work. Everything was so amazing food was so excellent and customer service were so quick and attentive. Have to wait for the food for a bit but it's worth waiting for it. Personally fell in love with the dessert called Kinako Fresh toast 🥰 everyone must try it. Korean Fried wings are also amazing and honestly love the sauce I even mixed it with my Hot Stone rice. Thank you for everyone that make our night so memorable and amazing. We will definitely coming back for another round 😋😏
T. R.
I’ve eaten out a lot this Summer. This restaurant has got to be one of the best I’ve been to in terms of flavour, food, atmosphere and staff. A complete explosion of flavours and tastes. Fresh food and a vibrant atmosphere make it one to go back for. Highly recommended!
J. F.
Limited menu at the moment. Tried many dishes (wings, pork sandwich, calamari, salmon tacos and bao bun) and they were all mediocre at best. The French toast with matcha ice cream was delicious, however a bit overrated and overhyped at the same time. Overall, a bit disappointing.
A. K.
Visited after hearing great things and to tie in with an evening at the Southbank centre (for Off Menu Live) but it wasn't amazing. The service wasn't very consistent, took around 15-20 minutes until our order was taken and I had to ask one of the wait staff. They were friendly but they didn't bring out our drinks until after the first plate, they forgot our tap water and things generally took a while to serve. The actual food was average. Best things were the dessert (french toast), the chicken wings and the pineapple non-alcoholic cocktail.
I really didn't enjoy the prawn toast, weird smoky taste, smothered in mayo and an unpleasant foamy texture. The bao buns were okay, and the beef rice bowl was nice enough but lacking depth of flavour.
It was quite pricey considering the plates were small. Overall felt pretty underwhelmed and not likely to return in the future.
There's much better Asian restaurants in London, so if you're looking for authentic food and bigger portions with lots of flavour and spice, I'd go elsewhere.
Y. K.
Yummmmm the dessert ofc, is a must. The sandos looked good, didn't get to order it. Fried chicken also looked like a popular option. Service was great too, very attentive and professional and quick. The minus one star is just from being small in quantity compared to the price, but eh in central London that's a default setting right?
M.
Had a really great time here for Sunday brunch it was fantastic bottomless small little dishes just kept coming as well as the Prosecco. The staff are simply fantastic and extremely attentive, fantastic place highly recommend.
C. H. K.
This is a popular joint in the Soho area of London.
A very popular joint.
The cafe has both inside and outside tables.
Their Kinako French Toast is great and recommended.
Service is fast and reasonable.
Cleanliness is acceptable.
Prices are reasonable. Both cash and cards are accepted here.
F. O.
Average decor but pricey, bill can easily go above £40-50 per head with a standard meal plus drink. Small plates were the positive notes: delicious raw tuna tacos and rabbit sando. French toast was abysmal, I hardly recognized a memorable flavour. In short, this fusion experiment is interesting but pricing seems excessive for a mid-range restaurant.
R. S.
Great take on Japanese food but still feels authentic. The restaurant had a real buzz about it when we arrived too. One point to note is that some dishes take longer to cook than others so some members of your party might get their meal before you. This didn't bother us but just something to keep in mind.
T. M.
Went for a quick lunch and enjoy their Eat out to help out offer extension.
Quite decent meal. Ordered Iberico Katsu Sando which appeared to be smaller than I thought. It liked eating it but was expecting more like Japanese sandwich ... not much amazing flavours.
Chilly beefs clay pot, nothing outstanding but fulfilling. A bit greasy.
To conclude, mix feelings we are in enjoyable Japanese fusion branch or if it’s Instagram like restaurant.
Staff are great and very cautious about hygiene and safety measure (all of them wearing mask, to be noted !) well done guys.
Price wise I should be well priced.
Might come again to try something else.
A. C.
Alarmingly good quality for bottomless brunch. I would assume for bottomless the quality usually drops, but not here. Really lovely food and excellent and lovely service. Our waiter was a dream. We had great fun here and will be back.
L. S.
Only tried the french toast but it was to die for! The matcha ice cream is good, and the french toast was divine! A must try!
f.
The sushi rolls were average. Beef was good but the highlight really was the French toast with matcha ice cream! The French toast was divine. Service could be improved..
C. L.
Selected items were good. We ordered quite a few iconic dishes, among which french toast with matcha ice cream, pork bun, prawn tempura were very good. Sweet spicy chicken wings, miso aubergine, and bento box were, over-sauced, so the dishes overall were of mixed quality. In terms of value for money, I'd say between low to moderate.
I. D.
Outstanding...we were nearly too absorbed by how good the food was to talk. Prawn toast, Miso Orange duck, Pork Bao, beef tataki were just some of the highlights - there wasn't a dud in sight. Chilled atmosphere, friendly and helpful waiter, 2 very satisfied tummies. shout out to #offmenupodcast for the recommendation
K. S.
Had the tasting menu and couldn't decide which was our favourite. All so delicious! Went Saturday night so was very busy and glad we booked a table. Can be a bit noisy but lively and fun.
G. H.
I can't get enough of this place....!
It really never disappoints. Considering the taste, quality of the food and portion sizes, it's incredible value (particularly if sharing). They do a great (and speedy) pre-theatre menu.
My highlights are the sea bass ceviche, the beef fillet tail, okonomiyaki-style prawn toast, crispy fried squid, pulled lamb buns, seared salmon sashimi, any of the matsu sandos and of course, the kinako French toast 😍
Drink wise, the yuzu sake and yuzu margarita are top notch
P. H.
About 75% full at Saturday lunchtime, the waiters were still able to be attentive and very friendly. The grilled salmon bento was delicious, and the perfect amount for a light, healthy lunch. Great atmosphere in this venue, and the Japanese posters of (largely) western films hanging the length of the whitewashed brick walls were an interesting distraction on the way out. Will certainly be coming back to try out more of their menu.
G. R.
The food here is delicious, from the padron peppers with kimchi, and the miso aubergine, through to the pulled lamb, or the rabbit sando it was all so tasty.
The service is friendly and helpful and there is a good drinks list too.
F. C. M.
Fun restaurant with a number of pretty tasty dishes. The sukiyaki style wagyu picanha is not too be missed - wagyu strips come raw to the table inside a hot pot, where they cook in front of you, accompanied by delicious white onions (which caramelize beautifully) and mushrooms. You also have a raw egg on the side to dip the strips of wagyu. I last had a dish like this in Japan, and it was fabulous to see it on this menu. The hot stone rice is also very good. Service was friendly, and drinks options were good too.
W. y. C.
Food was wonderful, highly recommend the mushroom toban and lamb bao. Grilled salmon was so perfectly cooked. French toast was more like a very delicious moist cake with matcha ice cream. Bit on the exspensive side but good range of sake and Japanese spirits.
N. A.
Comfortable sitting. Amazing French toast w/ matcha ice cream. Amazing service!
C. Y.
I visited Shackfuyu after lockdown, specially for the kinako french toast with matcha ice cream. Not disappointed at all 😊Prawn tempura was good too - fusion style. Bar was of good vibe.
Z.
Latest visit: Enjoyed it yet again, especially the meats, and all at a reasonable price. Of course, famed dessert remains good.
Previous review: Particularly enjoyed their famed Kinako French toast, but a couple of other dishes also hit the spot.
D. H.
Was looking forward to trying the food here, always see incredible food pics on instagram. The food was good, and service was friendly at the door, but other than that, not much else. Ok for a quick bite and a beer.
n.
Omg, SO GOOD. I’ve been thinking about it ever since I visited. Place is buzzing and such a good atmosphere, you can tell it’s well loved. We got the tasting menu for 2 and it was INCREDIBLE. So much food and all of it was exquisite. Some
of the best food I’ve had. I recommended getting as much as you can so you don’t miss out! It’s worth it. The tasting menu also comes with french toast and matcha ice cream which is to die for. The service and staff were so kind and helpful too, making sure we had fresh plates and napkins despite having so many people to look after. Really appreciated!! x
A.
The food is 10 out of 10. Great fusion cuisine. Lovely ambiance and cool music and cocktails. Highly recommended!
O.
I came across this place on a Thai friend's instagram post.Been there this evening and it is absolutely AMAZING! Wonderful hostess, great taste and free refils for the tea! Keep it on like that! I'll definitely be back, need to bring all my friends in here!
M. R.
Always a good experience here. Friendly attentive staff.
Delicious food. Especially the matcha ice cream toast!
Toilets are relatively clean.
Expensive for katsu curries.
K. R.
Upmarket fusion japanese food. Tapas style. Beautiful flavours in a targeted menu. Most people visit for the famous Matcha ice-cream on French toast! Would highly recommend for all food but the dessert is a must have! Expect a short queue!
E. K.
The bottomless brunch is superb! Such good value for money. The food is delicious and you get a lot of it, the booze kept flowing throughout the 2 hours and we didn't need to remind the waiters to top us up. The service was excellent. I would definitely recommend.
M. G.
The service could have been friendlier. Dessert was every bit as good as I'd heard. Please be more welcoming next time. As has been stated by other reviewers there is a policy that you have to order food to be be seated at the bar or the eating area and dessert is not included. This is understandable. However we did not get the kindest response when asked if we could sit in the bar whilst there was no-one waiting to get seats. Please try and be more hospitable. Bar staff a little on the edge too. Maybe it was just a bad night for the team. Might come back to see if the service is better next time.
E. L.
A must try French toast. Their ramen surprisingly rich compare to traditional tonkatsu. The chachu were very thick and super tasty. My sister order sukiyaki which is a nice sweet meat dish. Service is a bit below par.
C. R.
This place is absolutely unbelievable. Genuinely one of the best meals I’ve ever eaten. Every single item of food on the tasting menu was better than the last. The chicken wings were just divine. As was the matcha french toast. 😍😍 and don’t even get me started on the frozen yuzu margaritas. I was VERY tipsy at the end of the night!! Will definitely return numerous times.
D. M.
Delicious Japanese food. Lots of small plates to share all of which were great and reasonably priced. I’d recommend the edamame beans which were amazing.
A. B.
Overpriced and I feel something dodgy is going on there, as the prices in the menu are not the ones you end up paying. I regret not taking the receipt, as I have redone the math based on the menu prices and remember how much was on the receipt (pre obligatory 12% service charge) and it doesn’t add up. Has anyone else had this?
Otherwise - the food is tasty, but I won’t pay £6,2 for 1 Bao Bun ever again. I would recommend their desert tough. Left with really mixed feelings.
N. Z.
Although I am a purist when it comes to Japanese food, this Japanese-fusion restaurant owned by Bone Daddies is #superb
Gout-inducing meat like their beef short rib, or rabbit katsu curry always leave me begging for more. And to finish off, it is OBLIGATORY to whack a portion of their cinammon-french toast and (very generous helping of) soft-serve green tea ice cream.
If you are looking at +6pax then i highly recommend getting the private room downstairs...
A. L. L.
Delicious food, friendly staff. We went for the bottomless brunch, and bottomless it is! Never had an empty drink. Dessert was absolutely fantastic.
C. Y. T.
Never had the Japanese food, but have always gone there for the famous French toast with soft serve Matcha. The Matcha taste is not exaggeratedly sweet, just about how I like it. This chilly dessert is a perfect pair with the warm, crusted French toast, and one bite of this deadly combination gets you on Cloud nine at an instant. Decently priced and if you are just looking for something sweet after a savoury dinner, I reckon this plate of dessert is good for two (bring your date there). I had a pint of beer in Shack-Fuyu once but it was just like any other beer elsewhere. Again, I must say I didn't go there for alcohol. Appreciate how the waitresses/waiters gave a courteous response when there was once, we complained about the soft serve Matcha taste being oddly sour. All in all, Shack-fuyu has to be one of my London's favourite dessert place.
N. F.
Went here with my best bud, and honestly the food and service was amazing. The soft shell crab - amazing. And we both loved the Kinako French Toast👏. Would recommend this restaurant to everyone.
J. I. H.
Very nice and fresh. Would love to go again.
Y. C.
Very good cocktails and matcha and French toast dessert was amazing! However other dishes and fairly standard
D. G.
Trendy, friendly space. Good food. Attentive service. Wings could be better. But all ok. Sando and Bao were good.
A. C.
We ordered most of the items on the menu and everything was so good.
W.
Great small dishes and amazingly delicious meat dishes. The menu is nice and small, but covers a huge range of foods. It's really quite a good experience and the decor suits itself well.
K. W.
The waiter was very friendly. The ramen was tooooooo oily, we scooped out around 50ml of oil (not kidding) on top of our ramens. 4 stars for the dessert and waiter!
D. W.
Some interesting dishes but too noisy and packed for my tastes to make for an enjoyable experience. Felt service could also be improved, friendly but not efficient.
F. M.
We had an amazing meal, thanks for the great service, vibes and food!
S. T.
Kinako French toast with soft whipped matcha ice cream, oh how I've longed for you... We went for the tasting menu because... Well, why not? The Korean fried wings were saucy and meaty but the rest of the dishes didn't really stand out for me. I was only after dessert anyway, saving the best for last.
Even though we were stuffed, I always seem to find room for this. The French toast is not heavy and is complemented perfectly with the fluffy ice cream.
Our waitress was great and seemed to pop up as and when we needed her. Great timing, especially since it was a busy night.
Wheelchair access: There is a step to get in and no accessible toilet, but I was told when I called so expected it. Even though it wasn't accessible, it was still worth the visit to satisfy my craving. Staff were on hand to help me up and down the step.
s. q.
Chicken wings 6/10 only 3 wings, crispy, sauce was ok. Not very spicy. Tasted quite tomatoey
Prawn toast 3/10 very tiny portion and did not like the texture at all. The prawn had no bite to it. It was like a fishy marshmallow with a crispy coating
Chicken Sando - 4/10 very thin chicken, thick bread. Very little sauce.
The flavor of the bread overpowered everything else. The chicken was so bland and hardly had any flavour. Struggled to taste the sauce.
Chili beef rice bowl 6/10 decent crispy rice, again a bit lacking in seasoning, hardly any beef in this. The rice was not spicy at all. Asked for extra chili oil which wasn't spicy either. This showed me that this place was clearly targeted at a mild Western palette.
Char siu bao buns- 5/10 you get 1 bun. The bun was fluffy and meat was soft and tender. the flavor of the meat was lacking. This time the sauce on it overpowered the bland meat.
Tried to order the wagyu main but they were out.
Matcha French toast 8/10 best dish we tried. Delicious combination of soft serve and vanilla flavor warm French toast.
Overall very overpriced for very small dishes slightly bland the experience was saved by the French toast. I would not return.
It's fake Japanese food really
D. R.
Tasty food. Looking at c.£30 pp plus drinks and service if you go here so definitely mid-range - affordable but not cheap. You can book online and given location, size and popularity I'd recommend you do this.
If you go à la carte, they recommend 3 starters and 2 mains between 2 people. This works out to close to £30pp. Equally you could get the set-menu/tasting menu which is £30pp with optional sake flight course (3 90ml shots) for £5pp more. I wasn't a big fan of sake before, and still am not now, but at £5 it's a fun treat.
If you listen to the Off Menu podcast you'll know about the yuzu margarita... if you don't... well... now you do.
I was expecting the edamame to be underwhelming (like Wagamamas) but the sauce is sweet and moreish - so much so that the plate was clean. Even the ceviche was savoured.
Prawn toast, wings and iberico pork pluma were the stars of the show. So much char and smokiness in the pork. Prepare to get messy and for a bit of heat from the wings.
Hot stone beef (didn't notice any beef) and the aubergine were average.
French toast and matcha ice cream - fantastic.
Would note that the service is a bit all over the place in the sense they are friendly but not very attentive and lose track of what they have and haven't served. Also they tend to take away your cutlery and plates at the end of your course, serve your next course, but forget that you might also need a plate or cutlery to eat that too... The tables are close pretty together so you can get fairly intimate with the tables nearby.
All in all, highly recommended and will probably have eaten every dish on the menu by this time next year.
G. Y.
Great food never disappointed when coming here
K. E.
Have been to this restaurant a number of times. The lunch/early dinner menu is really good value. Highly recommend the prawn toast and aubergine. Excellent service on all the visits I have been.
H.
Nice French toast. Just wish they had the option of vanilla instead of matcha. Great for those that love matcha.
C. S.
I think Shackfuyu is my new favourite restaurant. Food is 'Western Japanese' but it's a really fun, playful mix up of the two cuisines. Decor also mixes both with an izakaya-feel wood bar and steakhouse-style circular leather booths at the back. Service was fast and sharing style is great for groups.
Prawn Toasts Masquerading as Okonomiyaki are delicious and far superior to limp Chinese restaurant versions. Korean fried chicken wings are pretty spicy, but huge and with a fragrant, Kimchi note to the sauce. My favourite is the Tako Tacos, a mix of marinated octopus with pickled cucumber in a hard shell, which are delicious and a nice balance of textures.
Stone bowl rice is the only mis-step for me, too dry and not enough crispy bits at the bottom, but very warming. The only desert - French toast with green tea Mr Whippy - is good, and the ice cream is refreshing, but I think it's one dish that looks better on Instagram that it tastes. I'll definitely be back.
R. B.
Really quite exquisitely delicious. A number of very tasty little dishes all washed down with several ice cold pints of asahi. What’s not to love?!
Above all, I’d recommend the matcha ice cream french toast for starters, mains and dessert.
J. E.
Whilst the food may be good don't buy or use vouchers!!
We had £120 in vouchers (Christmas gift) and spent £87.25 + service charge. We were told we couldn't keep the balance (as a voucher) to use another time. Our only option was to have a bottle of wine to take away. They even charged a service charge on it.
Such a shame as we would have returned another time, using the balance and then adding more money too.
We believe they have kept what was rightfully ours!
F. R.
Absolutely love the French toast from here. Best french toast I've ever had! The service was also amazing especially the last with a curly Bob (did not get her name!) Will definitely come every time I'm in London for the French toast!!!!
T. M.
Great food. Small sharing style plates. We got a spot at the bar which was a great vibe. The south African bartender Kyle was a legend! 🤙
A. H.
This is my second time going, a year after my first time. Still holds up!
Phenomenal tasting menue; the flavour is incredible, the variation was excellent, and the portions were filling! Service was excellent from every member of staff. Honestly, incredible! Thanks team Shack-Fuyu!!
L.
The food was really nice but we came on the premise of grabbing ramen. The website is really misleading, it looks like only some of their restaurants do ramen.
D. Z.
Amazing food, amazing service and a super cozy atmosphere! The aubergine dish is a must try.
I. R.
Some of the best tasting food in London! The chicken wings are delicious, the prawn toast, the pork, the French toast - all delicious. We had the tasting menu which was fab.
The staff were really nice and attentive. They served the food slightly too quickly (I think they were trying to get us out before the next booking) but we still had an amazing culinary experience! Hats off to the chef and all involved!
P. H.
Very impressed. Great quality ingredients at the Sunday brunch. Drinks refills all round, good vibes
C. R.
Had a lovely Sunday brunch here last week. Staff are really lovely and attentive, food was amazing, so stuffed by the end of it! Such good value for the location too. Cannot wait to go back!
A. b.
Absolutely outstanding food. The pulled lamb bao buns were out of this world
L. S.
Went here for dinner with friends and everything was great! My favourites were chicken wings, salmon tacos and the French toast
M. T. P.
The matcha french toast is the signature dessert of this restaurant. The korean chicken wings are also great as well.
G. L.
The green tea matcha ice cream and French toast is a match made in heaven. However, if you are only there for dessert, they will give you a standing table and have really slow service.
T. R.
Some delicious small plates, great for sharing and good value overall.
P. P.
Would recommend their tasting menu. Delicious food at a great price!
H. Z.
Service is great and the Korean chicken wings is delicious and the toast and matcha ice cream is a must, not heavy or too sweet
K. T.
the yummiest dessert!!!!! super crispy outside and super soft inside french toast with matcha soft serve. love it so much!
S. G.
Cool vibe and great food. Drinks and tasting menu made for a great night out. A cocktail plus 3 types of sake on the go at the same time. Makes for a surprisingly good drinks pairing with the rich Japanese Korean, comfort food, tapas.
嘤.
Tasting menu was well balanced and good priced (£30 pp).
I. T.
Delicious food. Must-tries: Korean fried wings and the prawn toast (an interesting interpretation of okonomiyaki).
S. Z.
Service was great, we had a very attentive waitress.
The food was good quality just wished they had bigger portion sizes.
T. K.
A really great time with fun and imaginative food, well presented. Tasted great and food just kept coming!
E. R. M.
Bone Daddies' Shackfuyu is meant to be a fusion asian restaurant having probably a lot of elements of Korean food (Bbq wings, stone cooked rice etc.). The short rib is absolutely delicious and tender, also, after a couple of visits I can say it is consistently good. Would definitely recommend. It does get busy on weekend nights.
N. X.
We went for the sunday bruch (at 6pm) and can't decide whether to rave about the food or the service first! Food: everything was so tasty and really nice to be able to choose from the selection of small dishes.as well as the large. Service: everyone was so friendly and very attentive (both on wine and food). 100% recommend!
b.
Food was good, not bad options for veggies but didn't have labelled options for vegans, the one dessert had dairy. Think it was weird that they bothered to do qr coded menus despite the fact that the staff stood so close to you when serving and taking orders, although they are wearing masks. Need to sort of queuing outside the restaurant as it was so crowded.
A. C.
So delicious and lovely lovely staff! Amazing brunch would definitely go again
N. B.
Just superb. Not just the flavours, but the textures and everything. Have the £35 taster menu. You won't regret it.
F. W.
Great food as always, although next to the table seated near to the bar is where they clear left over food which can be off putting when eating so advise to get a table nearer to the back of the restaurant.
A. P.
Great food. Went for their express menu, quickly served and tasty. Gotta get the matcha toast desert!
L.
Wonderful experience eating at Shack-Fuyu on Sunday evening. We opted for the tasting menu (for 2) with sake which was fantastic value at £40 per head in terms of both the quality and quantity of food, and we also ordered the amazing tuna tacos based on a recommendation. Practically everything was perfect, particular highlights were the soy and chill edamame (not sure how I can go back to ordinary edamame after that), the iberico pork pluma which is probably the best tasting piece pork I have ever eaten, and of course the kinako French toast. Yes, it is every bit as good as everyone says, believe the hype. My only small criticism would be that the miso aubergine was a bit too sweet/sickly.
The service was outstandingly friendly and professional and all safely adhering to covid-19 guidelines and regulations. We can't wait to come back and try some of the things we didn't get to this time around.
N. M.
Tried the bottomless brunch here -food was excellent, drinks served regularly. You can order as many small dishes as you wish which are freshly cooked and offer a large variety of flavours. Very busy on a Saturday, loud interior making it difficult to communicate on our table. Wonderful afternoon with some truly excellent dishes.
H. A.
Lovely food and great service. The air-conditioning was on full blast so it was cold. It was 30 outside but felt like I was in a freezer
E. J.
Honestly the greatest aubergine I have ever tasted, had to order more. The rest of the menu was also unbelievable. I can’t wait to go back!
D. C.
First time here, but second time at the chain of restaurants ‘Bone daddies’.
The food was great, especially the Korean sticky chicken wings. I think I would venture here just for the wings alone. This place is well designed and very lively.
Prices are a little on the high side, but overall a great experience and is a nice spot for some food and drink with a small group of friends.
N. A.
This dessert is always amazing in a very busy central London location
N. T.
Great food and very friendly staff but the tasting platter for two is waaaaaay too much food. Definitely worth a visit but if you want to try a lot of dishes as a pair just ask for a selection of dishes, don't go for the tasting menu. We received enough food for 2-3 dinners each easily. They don't do doggy bag, take away for left overs either which was strange.
S. M.
Absolutely delicious food and very friendly service. Would definitely recommend and will be back!
A. N.
Great for bottomless brunch. A lot of variety in the food that is all well prepared and delicious. Speedy service and you can get great value from food and drink (the red wine was quite delicious!)
Shouts out to the servicez especially Sebastian who was super lovely and a great photographer
G. B.
I'd heard good things, but was not prepared for just how amazing the food here is. Went with friends for the tasting menu (and frozen yuzu margaritas) and was completely bowled over. Beautifully prepared, interesting and above all delicious food. If I had to single out anything, it would be the chicken wings - best I've ever had - but also the aubergine, oh and the French toast. It's all so good. Great ambience, speedy and pleasant service are the icing on the cake. Well worth multiple visits.
K. S.
The best tasting menu in London. We take many friends here and no one has been disappointed thus far - incredible food. My only caution is it can get quite noisy and hard to hear each other, so as long as you’re prepared for that!
A. W.
The food is delicious, especially the prawn toast. There were some really innovative dishes and delicious kimchi. Sadly the faultless food was let down by the slow service. We had all but one of our savoury dishes and then waited over 30 minutes, with 3 requests for our food, for the last. We then ordered 2 French toast between 4 and again waiting at least 30 minutes for that to arrive despite further chasing. The staff were very apologetic and brought out and extra French toast once we had finished the ones we ordered, which we didn’t want really and actually just showed how quick it was to make. It is really sad that the food was let down by either orders being forgotten or a lack of communication between front of house and the kitchen, otherside it would have been 5*.
H.
Small step in entering, not wheelchair/disabled friendly for all.
Had the hot stone rice which was tasty, a little on the salty side for me. The matcha french toast was great.
L. J.
Amazing food and atmosphere but slow staff service to table
A. J.
Girlfriend looked up the place so didn't know what to expect.i can honestly say it's some of the best food I've had and we'll worth the money.the Korean chicken wings are the best I've ever had.👌
N. T.
Delicious food, lively atmosphere, cool interior.
Every plate we ordered was delicious. Don't miss the korean chicken wings, and the french toast & matcha tea ice cream dessert.
Service was quick and attentive, we had a lot of stuff on the table but they regularly came by to clear it up.
Nice and lively on a Saturday at 7:30pm - but the music was maybe a little too loud (I think I was under a speaker) which made it a bit too much at times, which is why I've docked a star. Good music tho.
M. M. (. M.
Second-best french toast I had! Best one is in Sydney :D sorry
B. R.
Really love the food here. The Korean wings, beef hot stone rice and duck gyoza are great. The only reason I’ve gone for the four stars is because of the service... it was pretty good until my fully loaded plate was taken away in a rush. Not appreciated and such a shame as I would’ve given the five stars.
M.
Only went there for the French toast and matcha ice cream... lip licking indeed 😋
Z. K.
Kinako French Toast....quite simply bangin' lol
K. T.
Bit disappointed with my recent visit. I'd not been back since the soft launch a couple of years ago but I remember that visit and I was looking forward to sharing it with others.
The service felt very slow even though it wasn't that busy in there. They also offer free refill of tea but instead of just filling it at the table, they'd bring another cup and at times just leave cups at the table.
The food itself was cooked well though and the main reason why I knew I had to come back was the french toast. I was so happy that this was just as good as I remembered.
S. C.
Food is great, with inventive and interesting dishes and drink, though it's tempting to over-order. Staff recommended 4-5 dishes, but 3, maybe 4, is fine. We had lots of leftovers but were told they didn't have a takeaway license so couldn't box it up for us. Never heard that before.
D. S.
Excellent food as usual - have been to the restaurant multiple times before. Popped in for lunch on Boxing day - wasn't too busy, so much quieter than the other times I've visited. The collection of Sake is very nice, for food I'd highly recommend the Aubergine, the Pork Pluma, the chicken wings, the fish was decent. Please ensure you've room for dessert as it's rated as one of the best in London - the French toast with a generous soft serve of green tea ice cream!
S. R.
Amazing food with lots of flavor. Good atmosphere. The menu has just the right amount of dishes to choose from. The service was mixed. I had to ask several people to get water. Still would come back in a heart beat.
A. R.
I was really impressed by this place. We went without any expectations and without reading any reviews but still curious to discover a new place.
We opted for the tasting menu along with the Wyagu course which was delightful! All course tried were great but the wagyu one and the Iberico Pluma were outstanding.
The Kinako Frech toast was a nice dessert that emphasizes the popular Japanese flavours of bean powder and matcha.
They had a good option of cocktails and mocktails but I'm a tea lover so I went for the Oolong.
The service was friendly and efficient. All in all, we had a wonderful dinner.
E. S.
Incredible food. Just an experience. Best book in advance as its impossible to get a seat. But can't recommend it highly enough.
We had the rabbit katsu curry and it was delicious. They're famous for their matcha french toast which you'll agree is just out of this world. I'd recommend asking the waiter what the best things on the menu are and just trusting them. It's all very surprising.
Z. H.
Food: Fantastic. I ordered the Korean fried wings and the Wagyu beef sukiyaki. The wings were the standard I have come to expect from Bone Daddies and Flesh and Buns (the two other restaurants run by the same group) which is possibly the best wings I've ever had. The sukiyaki was possibly one of the tastiest dishes I've ever had; and I didn't get food poisoning!
Oh, and I thought I'd add a special section for the much famed desert here. It definitely is something different. It's a crusty outside and wonderfully moist on the inside and the ice cream on the outside is just the right level of creamy. Not the best dessert in town that people have been raving about, but very nice.
Service: Attentive and friendly, but not overbearing. Spot on.
Ambience: Very bright and cool, but maybe a touch clinical.
Price: A fairly priced meal but a premium one.
Worth a visit: Definitely. All thee of the Bone Daddies name are awesome and this is no exception.
M. F.
Westernized Japanese food is a fine idea but coupled with being overpriced and poor service it’s a disappointing combo.
Three of us went for dinner before the cinema and ordered a variety of dishes. The sushi and rolls were quite low quality, honestly you can get better sushi at Wasabi. The baos were okay and the yakitori was probably the only redeeming feature.
The service was friendly but slow. There are better places to spend £30 for a much more satisfying meal.
F. G.
It's not my first time Shack-Fuyu. First time I went with my husband for a dinner on a Friday evening. That day the atmosphere was great and the food was delicious. Therefore I decided I want to go back.
When I was looking for bottomless brunch Shack-Fuyu came on my search, I didn't hesitate to book it.
This time I went there with friends for a Sunday bottomless brunch. We all really enjoyed the starters which you can have as much as you want, all included with the Sunday brunch price. We didn't even get to order the main as we all had so much of the starts. The prosseco was very nice too. They have a lovely frozen Margarita. And the dessert which is only one option, was exquisite. It definitely worth trying! I didn't try at my first visit because I wasn't sure about a ice-cream with a French toast.
Service was great making the whole experience fantastic!
I have read some negative reviews about this place which might put some people off. I have been there twice in two months (Feb&March 2019) and both visits was of high standards.
Unfortunately I didn't take pictures of the yummy food. All the dishes came nicely presented.
I will definitely come and I highly recommend this place!
J. M.
Mega food, incredible environment. Prawn toast was otherworldly
L. S.
Seriously impressed with the bottomless brunch. Food quality was really impressive. Meat in bao buns thick, and veg curry was a show stunner! Service was a little chaotic but they were attentive and friendly when we got their attention. Welcome bloody mary cocktail really yummy and free flowing prosecco was quite decent for an all you can drink service. Excited to go back!
C. M.
Fantastic place and food - one of the best in London!
T. W.
Mostly good food, some things didn't really work. We did the tasting menu, the French toast, aubergine and chicken wings were great. The pork and prawn toast were fine but not great. Overall the tasting menu was too big and they don't offer takeout. Good value though.
W. W.
It's a shame the service is extremely poor here as noted by a lot of the other reviewers and friends of mine. The dessert here is amazing, although it can take over 15 minutes to receive such a easily prepared dish.
The service here wasn't extremely unattentive and we had to ask multiple times for the bill and were ignored a few times. The restaurant wasn't that busy during the day too.
Tapas here is quite expensive. The food is decent but overpriced. The dessert is the main reason most people come here. It is excellent and highly recommended. I'd give it a 4.5/5. It's disappointing the service is so bad and the manager didn't seem to care about our experience. It certainly deters my friends and I from coming back to this chain.
J. N.
This place was awesome! We had the Prawn toast, Broccoli and Korean fried chicken wings and I'd definitely come back for all 3 dishes - so delicious! Prawn toast was the standout for me. Great place for a small group of friends and cocktails were good too.
K. J.
Excellent. Food's great, staff great. Definitely recommend.
M. D.
This used to be one of my favourite restaurants. I visited awhile ago and wasn't entirely happy with my experience. Maybe it's a one off? So went again recently and exactly the same.
The food is just okay. It's not as good as when it first opened. It's a shame the standards have slipped. I still enjoyed what I had though. Although the octopus taco was a bit of a dud dish because I felt it didn't really work.
The staff are the weak point. Same as my previous experience. Although friendly the service is slow and scattershot.
We had to wait ages just to get poured water. Finally somebody got our drinks order. We had to chase up our beers because we were sat waiting so long. How long does it take to get a beer from the fridge and bring it over to a table? I could understand if they were crazy busy but it was pretty quiet.
Food took ages to arrive which they messed up. We were missing an item had they had doubled another item. We ordered another set of beers and again they took an age to arrive.
They food is average and the service isn't great. I don't think I will ever go back.
H. S.
Best place for after dinner, when you wanna both desserts and cocktails
I. W.
The service was impeccable and fast - ordered tea with free refills and didn't have to ask once for our glasses to be topped up. The food was delcious - some of the flavours where not as exciting as I thought they would be. My only criticism is it felt very 'chain - restaurant' otherwise would have been 5 stars
N. T.
Katsu sando. Dirty rice. Every dish was delicious, served as it's ready. Booking is advised. While we surprised our table neighbours by talking to them (this is central London after all), their drink recommendation was brilliant. It is a small place so be aware if you have larger groups, accessibility complications or pushchairs for example.
T. H.
The food wasn't bad, not the best Japanese cuisine in London, but alright. The customer service is what really let the place down. Two dishes were were forgotten about from our order, we alerted the wait staff. Their initial reaction was to describe the dishes to check we hadn't had it. Then, having returned from the kitchen, they assured us that the dishes had been prepared and then sent out, again asking us if we were mistaken about not receiving them. They then went back to the kitchen to instruct the dishes be made, advising they can take 10 minutes to prepare. Then another memeber of staff comes over, after about 10 minutes, to apologies that they kitchen had messed up and not made the dishes and that they would be with us in about 10 minutes. Another 10 minutes pass and the original waiting staff advise that they should be with us shortly. Eventually the dishes arrive, some 30 minutes after we have finished the rest of the dishes we ordered. Once we finish those the service picks up pace as they are trying to rush us out. At no point were we offered any compensation as a result of the failure of the place. It's one thing for something to be missed from an order, quite another for it to be inferred that you're wrong about it not arriving. Worse still is waiting an inordinate amount of time for the error to be corrected. Such a shame as I had heard good things and was excited to visit.
UPDATE: Interesting that even the response from the restaurant to this review fails to apologise for the issue.

Tried the tasting menu here and it was good value and portion sizes were good, though splitting 3 wings between 2 people is a tricky and messy affair.
We left feeling very satisfied. Service was good and friendly, food came quickly and everything tasted good. I'd happily go back!
H. P.
The french toast with matcha ice cream is in spot light. The appetizer menu is interesting to try out new things though...

Easily one of my favourite restaurants in London. The two outstanding dished for me were the USDA Short Rib - melts in your mouth with lettuce cups and pickled vegetables, and the chicken wings which are just incredible. Best enjoyed with friends and frozen margaritas!
N. H.
Having tried the Kinako French toast and the soft serve matcha a few years ago, I've returned often! The Express Lunch/Pre-Theatre offering is always the go-to as it's the perfect way to try different things, though one can never pass on ordering the Korean Friend Wings! Nice environment and friendly staff.
J. L.
Their food was good but I think they had to chase us out after 2 hours which wasn't nice when we were so into our group conversation. Also, we were celebrating a birthday and brought a cake. They insisted that we will have to order 2 portions of their dessert anyway, otherwise they will charge us a cake fee. I wouldn't come with a group in the future. It's good for just 2 or 4 people tops.

We did the bottomless brunch on the Sunday and really couldn’t fault it. Plenty of food, good choices, drinks refilled promptly and a good waiter. It’s a mid eat kinda place, nothing fancy and if I’m to be critical some dishes are better than others but generally speaking the experience was really good. We will go back
E. P.
Food was really nice but it felt overpriced for what you got. If the dishes were all about £1-2 less each then it would be perfect. Eat Tokyo next door is cheaper and the food is just as good but the decor is lacking. Make your choice.
M. C.
SO GOOD! Seriously, the food is so good in here. Don’t miss the sides, they are delicious too! We had katsu veggie, shiitake mushrooms, cauliflower and broccoli. All super tasty and flavourful.
I wish they had more gluten free and vegetarian options.
M. P.
Came to try the famous Kinako Fresh toast and we also got a couple of cocktails each and everything was on point and super tasty!
You need to try that desert yes, it is really good from texture to taste.
Also i really loved the whickey cocktail with walnut bitters.
T. D.
On the basis of our meal I would describe this as half Japanese and half Korean but for those like me that like some chilli hot dishes in their meal that is a welcome compromise. The rice and beef - bibimbap in all but name - was especially good with a lovely crunchy base. Ceviche of sea bass excellent too. I would recommend the tasting menu but everyone at the table has to share it and it has some meat, more flexibility would be welcome. Go in a group and share as many dishes as you can all eat.
D. S.
Hip and cool Janpanese food. Sitting at the bar is convenient if tables are occupied. Salmon was grilled to perfection. Considering my American appetite. I feel portions are a little small however the flavor was top notch.
R. S.
Excellent food, especially the chicken wings, that one is definitely a must try. The menu selection is somewhat small however but the quality is great. The matcha ice cream dessert was wonderful as well. Quite expensive though.
B. C.
The food was amazing however the customer service received from the manager was awful.
My husband found a shard of glass in a shot glass which he was about the drink. Although he was given a fresh new shot (saki tasting menu) the manager was very unapologetic and offered no form of goodwill gesture to compensate for this very dangerous mistake. The advice he gave was' well don't pay service charge then as its the bar man's fault'. The customer service received from the manager was extremely poor and we felt he was very rude and abrupt. We are not normally ones to complain howwever, given the potential seriousness of this and the dissatisfactoy reaction received I feel this needs to be shared. We have since emailed them and recieved no response which again reflects on the poor level of customer service.

Slightly biased as Asian cuisine is my favourite but the feel of the place coupled with good, friendly service, tasty food and bottomless prosecco was enough to warrant 5 stars. Sunday and Monday brunch menu is AMAZING value for money. Dishes came quickly and were washed down with a crisp prosecco and Bloody Mary on arrival - all included in the £39 per person. Our favourites included the French toast and matcha ice cream (SO SO SO YUMMY), the duck leg bun, panko prawns, brusell sprouts, crispy squid and tako tacos. Least favourite were the chicken dishes (Korean wings and fried chicken bun) but my husband enjoyed so just a personal preference on the flavour of the sauce.
Nice to see the quality and offering of the food is not compromised for a cheaper dining alternative.
Service was friendly, informal and efficient. Smiling managers and waiters and no long waits on anything.
Rarely would I visit the same place twice in London for food but this would be a regular Sunday stop off if I lived in the city again.
Thanks Shackfuyu!
K. J.
The pork bao and the korean wings were really good. Sushi was not the best. Felt rather squeezed in - very close to the tables next to us. However, toilets were really nice.
M. G.
One of my favorite places in London. The menu is very good and I came back many times and never got tired of it. Chiken wings and marinated lamb chops are the best things on the menu. French toast with matcha ice cream is a good finish.
N. M. S.
Not my first time last Friday for an early supper for two. Managed to get a table for 1830 through open table. Can’t fault the food - why I went back again. Excellent crispy Korean wings, edamame and the French toast deserve proper shoutout. The only disappointing bit, which prompted me to write this - our bill was sent over at 2000h, because the table was reserved for another party. Of which we weren’t informed, would’ve happily agreed to a bar seating otherwise.
T. M.
Amazing was treated very well by all the staff. Booked online and was phoned to confirm. Our waiter was super lovely and went the extra mile to suggest food and portions. The food was really good and even though I felt like its cost a bit the quality and service was excellent value for money.
S. C.
I would be lying if I said the food is bad, but is it the best Asian food in London? No! Like any other modern restaurant this place has a certain kinda hype about it, so my friends and I decided to try it. The noise level was one of the highest but in fairness it was a friday. We had to ask for a drinks a few times before they brought them to the table, and we didnt get our food at the same time so it ended up with 4 of us finishing our food while the 5th person got her about 15min after we were done. Again, it was a friday so it was super busy and maybe during the week it isnt as hectic, but personally it is not a place I would go back to, knowing that there a so many other amazing (and authentic) restaurants around Soho.
Y. Z.
Inspired by Izakaya style dining from busy Japan. This captures the decorum and quick yet savory character of the food without the cramped spaces and dense cigarette smoke. The menu is a creative fusion with Asia Japanese and Korean comfort food at heart, but with influences of south and central America. Service has always been on point with attentive and knowledgeable waiters, oh and the 🍺s are nice. Only caveat is on the expensive side, but to be expected for the area and well worth it.
A. R.
Really good food and service! Loved the tapas sized portions that were at a decent price as well. Korean chicken wings were amazing. Would recommend to anyone out there who really just want to have a great evening drinking and eating .
R. S.
This place is part of the bone daddies group. It has a very cool vibe. We came for desert only and had the famous Kinako French Toast, which is worth coming for alone. They have an excellent range of cocktails and beers. I will be back to try the rest of the menu. We managed to bag a seat by the bar on a Saturday evening. Staff were all very friendly.
L. F.
Super busy and for dinner expect to either make a reservation or wait, although our wait was much shorter than they predicted which was nice and we could wait at the bar area and have some drinks (or even food if we wanted).
We went for small plates to share and had the prawn toast okonomiyaki, the duck gyoza which were really good, the imo fries that were amazing, and the Korean wings which are quite Korean (similar to bone daddies, not like on the bab) which is not to everyone's tastes. For dessert we had the french toast and matcha ice cream which was lovely, we shared and I think that's the right amount for dessert because it's quite a big portion it came to just under £20 each. (We had one beer)
The decor is pretty awesome with Japanese movie posters and lots of sake displayed. Generally a good place to go for Japanese foodies.
M. v. d. G.
Lovely place in SoHo. Very friendly waiter and really know what they were serving. However the quality could have been better and the taste profile needs some development. Overall a nice place to grab a bite. Would recommend.
S. P.
I really like the food in this place. It's fresh, innovative and seriously tasty. The menu allows you to spend or go cheap which is a good approach. The staff are cool and really friendly and I love the Soho vibe. If I could make one suggestion it would be some sound deadening. So often over looked in restaurant design - hard floors, walls and ceilings send the noise bouncing around to the extent that you can't hear yourself speak. Hustle and bustle is great, but just a few more soft furnishings and more sound absorbent finishes would make all the difference. Oh, and lose the stools. Nobody wants to sit on a stool.

This restaurant is always one of my favourites in London, but my last visit showed the level of kindness and dedication of the staff.
I visited earlier in the week with my wife for our first dinner out together since the birth of our son, having left him with my mother to look after. We were also celebrating as I have recently landed my dream job.
We came in, without booking, and despite it being a very busy evening, Agnes at the front desk managed to find us a nice spot at the bar. My wife has a number of dietary restrictions at the moment as our son has digestive issues from milk and soya, and the waitress, Maria, spent several minutes with us talking through the menu and highlighting the dishes which she could have, or which could be modified for her.
We ordered a number of dishes and waited for our food to arrive. In the meantime, since the staff had spoken to us about this being our first night out in a while and also celebrating my new job, they sent over some complimentary cocktails for us! 😁
We were just finishing these when we received a message that our son was very upset and had finished all of the milk we had left for him, so we had to leave (obviously, this was devastating news for us).
The staff were extremely understanding, cancelled the dishes on our order which had not already been made and brought out those which had been. We finished our starters and left, feeling very grateful for the way that the staff handled the sudden change in our order and had treated us throughout our visit.
We will definitely be back soon, and as Agnes and Maria both advised, we will bring our son with us, as they are a baby friendly restaurant 😊
Normally, it’s the French Toast and Matcha Ice-Cream that leaves us smiling from ear to ear, but the service here is exceptional and we can’t wait to have another go at our dinner at Shakfuyu.
C. C.
Probably my favourite restaurant in London.
Not only did they give my girlfriend and I a free serving of softshell crab (a kitchen error meant for another table) but also offered us dessert for free after telling our waitress that not only is Shackfuyu our favourite place, but also the location of our first date. Can't recommend it enough.
A. Y.
Went for the sunday brunch with a girlfriend. Good food and good service. This lovely waitress kept topping up our prosecco without being asked. Portions were larger than we expected, especially the 'small dishes' which by no means are small.
I. E.
It's simple: The food is delicious. If, like me, you gauge a restaurant on its ability to turn out food better than you could make at home, Shack-Fuyu scores very highly indeed. They have an uncanny ability to turn simple ingredients like broccolis or aubergine into unbelievably scrumptious dishes. Don't miss the hot stone rice if you go! They also have Asahi on tap, the service is great and the food somehow always comes out piping hot. I'll keep going back.
K. H.
We were in the Private room downstairs which is a well decorated, moodily lit snug of a dining experience. The staff were lovely, fun and couldn't do enough. The food was great too.
J. P.
Awesome place! The buns, especially the ox cheek is amazing and would definitely recommend the wings. I'd also recommend ordering 'tapas' style and getting lots of starters instead of mains. Surprisingly good service especially when it was so busy.
A. B.
This was such tasty Japanese food- comparable to Inko Nito in SoHo but maybe slightly less good. Particular favs in our group we’re the wagyu beef and the Korean chicken. Kimchee was also lovely. I’d say this is one of those places that’s so delicious that you can basically trust everything on the menu to be damn good! I’ll definitely be coming back.
R. K.
The bottomless brunch (which goes on all day) was amazing.
Prawn toast like I've never had before and delicious soft shell crab were my highlights. We had a lovely waitress.
J. L.
Amazing food and cocktails were delicious, but sadly the service let them down. We were left waiting at our table for quite a while before anybody took our drinks or food order and we kept having to remind staff about forgotten items. They also got our bill wrong.
A. A.
The french toast and ice cream will defo keep you coming back - that's all I tried and all I can recommend.
k. w.
They only serve one dessert—French toast with matcha soft serve ice cream(can’t remember the exact name). It. Is. Amazing. You have to stand while eating though, if you’re only there for the dessert!
W. R. (.
Good food but a bit over-priced.
We had 2 drinks, 3 small plates, 2 large places and a dessert for a total £75 for 2 people. The food was definitely good, but I think for the same price you can get something a bit more special in Soho.
Everything we ate was definitely tasty, the prawn toast okonomiyaki was my personal favourite, and it had that more-ish quality that I remember of the real thing in Hiroshima. Everything else was all perfectly cooked too, but just lacked that "special something" to make this a place to come back to. The same applied to the matcha ice cream with French toast, which came with a bigger portion of ice cream than was required (not that it is a problem), but lovely and light yet crispy toast.
Worth a visit for tapas-style sharing of a range of fun Japanese-style dishes, but not a must visit.
F. T.
Been here a couple of times. On our most recent visit we had the Cornish crab congee with wasabi butter that was really delicious and comforting on a cold winters day. We also ordered the hot stone rice with beef that was tasty but slightly more burnt as compared to the first time we ordered it. The Korean fried wings was one of my favourite on my first visit but wasn't as crispy on the second visit. I loved the sticky fatty lamb ribs that was very tender and nicely marinated. And the whole fried seabass is definitively a must order if you don't mind picking out a few bones :)
Everyone raves about the kinako French toast but I personally haven't tried it yet (crazy I know!)
Maybe next time ... :)
Y. M.
Amazing hip place, great service and great food. Korean fried chicken is the bomb and pork bun was mouth watering. This place is usually very busy so good to book in advance. I will definitely return.
J. S.
Mediocre at best. Time Out London lies, again, in its recs.
The good: My aubergine and cauliflower were DELICIOUS so I can't fault that. Rich, sweet flavours that I gobbled too although the aubergine was a little to chewy for my palate.
The bad: My husband's main dish was awful. AVOID THE MAC AND CHEESE. What a waste of £8. Barely cooked pasta under a meh topping. He also got the scallop- yes a scallop- because paying £8 for one should be a crime, The scallop was nice but there were also these bits of rubbery fish??? scallop bits??? around it that turned us off.
The worst was the service (of course Europe, you NEVER FAIL). Our waitress just ended her shift midway and never bothered to tell us. So after sitting and waiting for some time for our food, drink refills, ANY acknowledgement, we flagged another waitress and she let us know, that yeah, our server had left and she had our section now. No apologies or anything. So we had to repeat our orders.
I had the 12.5% tip that is automatically added taken off immediately. We will never return and I urge others to avoid as well.
L. P.
Food was delicious and staff lovely. Sauvignon cocktail is a must! Duck bun and pork skewers were yummy too. Reasonably priced, great for a late night bite
B.
I've been here several times now.
Definitely get the tasting menu. It's well worth it. My favourite dishes are the aubergine, chicken wings and the french toast dessert!
M. T.
The food is quite tasty but honestly the portions are child like. You seriously need to spend at least 40 quid to get at least half full. Won't go back again unless they change their menu.
C. L.
Loved it small share plates with great flavor. Really happy to have tried this unique little menu. As per other reviews prawn toast was great another favorite is the aubergine. Highly recommend a visit
D. G.
Lovely food, nice ambience a little expensive for what it is. The staff are friendly and helpful and the food comes out at a good pace (you order lots of small dishes). It's a little tricky to find because of the branding so take your time checking out photos so you know what to look for. Would recommend.
A. H.
Excellent dessert of french toast with matcha ice cream
C. P.
Food was great and staff friendly. Their suggestions about portions were realistic (we ended up ordering too much since we didn't listen!) all was good though 😊
N. W. X.
Really great place for Japanese food. The bento was surprisingly good value for money at only 9 pounds. The crab meat congee was however just mediocre. The Matcha ice cream and french toast desert is completely unique and delicious!
C. N.
Best french toast dessert you will ever have. You must try it. It is like no other. I always come here after my dinner for a dessert! They will sit you at the high tables since you are only having dessert.
K. N.
Tried the £30 tasting plate - would recommend instead choosing individual plates like tapas style and then ordering one matcha French toast dessert each - we didn't know it was only 1 plate between 3, rather we thought it would be 1 plate per person. Preferred Bone Daddies over this joint. Disappointed by the overpowering sauces put all over the dishes...
J. P.
The atmosphere here is good. The servers we had were happy, amiable people. Menu and s combinations of ingredients are hit and miss.
L. A.
One of the best bottomless brunches out there! The food was amazing and so were the staff. Can't wait to go back
R. B. A.
The late-night menu (3 course + drink) was quite good. The starter was a bit disappointing, but the main (salmon) was very good. Dessert (French toast with Matcha soft-serve) was amazing, it is a must.
L. K.
Great izakaya style Japanese/Korean fusion. The overall vibe is pretty casual, and there are a lot of 80s posters decorating the wall. The prawn toast is easily one of their best dishes. I’d also recommend the sukiyaki, it comes sizzling in a stone bowl. Their sashimi-like dishes are okay, but it’s probably worth sticking to their grilled and fried dishes. I was also not super impressed by the soft shell crab. Make sure to leave room for the French toast dessert with the matcha ice cream. Definitely worth it.
B. T.
Very surprised at how good the food here was, maybe my lack of expectation means I'm awarding it one extra star then I would ordinarily. Ask the staff a bout the dishes. We tried half the menu and their recommendations were on point.
c. c.
Great cocktail list. Food is amazing fusion between east and west, on the pricey side but delicious . We had to re order some of the pork chops as they were absolutely delicious.
C. P.
You must come here if only to eat the Macha ice cream and French toast dessert. It's incredible. In fact just come here for that alone.
Update: If you do that you aren't allowed a seat, even if they have a seat available so are made to stand. Not good customer service, especially given it doesn't take long to eat a dessert.
E. T.
So Shackfuyu is doing a re-opening and I'm lucky enough to book a place for lunch today at their soft launch.
I haven't been here before but looking at previous photos of the place I would say the place is more chic and the layout now makes it look bigger (might have something to do with the huge mirror at the back of the restaurant).
Staff are quite well trained, although they did try to bring the same dish to our table twice. Not sure if this is staff error or kitchen error. Polite service throughout. The food came quite quickly as well, although not in any particular order. We had the curry potato, then duck bun first, and then the iron steak, then the chicken last. They all came separately on their own.
We had the duck, flat iron steak and kimchi chicken bun between 2 people. We also had the curry potato. These are enough to fill you up and make you fall into a food coma!!
Props to the flat iron steak, it melts in your mouth and is great coupled with the radish. Kimchi chicken is second and even a non-kimchi lover myself, the chicken was juicy and succulent inside and it was a huge piece of chicken! Duck was disappointing as the piece was too small and due to this the deep frying made it feel like I was eating fried duck skin!!
Curry potato was addictive as it uses those Japanese curry which is slightly sweet.
All in all, a good place for lunch!
L. H.
Absolutely mind-blowing food. One of the best places I have been to in London. We ordered the tuna tacos (incredible), soy edamame (best I have had in a while), beef tataki, grilled beef, pork bao (best I've ever had), sea bass ceviche, gyoza, and soft shell crab sushi between three of us. You know you have a great restaurant when you could have done with one less dish but not sure what you would have sacrificed if you could re-do the order
c. s.
Best french toast and ice cream combo i had in london
A. K.
One of my favourite places in London, must try the hot stone rice, spicy chicken wings, the grilled salmon, the japanese plum wine and the amazing dessert (best French toast in town) !
D.
Great service amazing food especially the salmon dish. Best chicken wings I have ever had and the French toast is worth the detour. The lunch express menu is a money saver
E. F.
To me this place is what 2am kebab is to the Japanese. Must be seriously unhealthy to taste this good. Ideal to go with a group so you can share dishes, allowing you to try as much as possible. The prawn toast is not like anything I've ever tasted and has to be had!
E. R.
Interesting and creative asian menu, everything cooked to delicious perfection. Staff were friendly, engaging, and seated us quickly despite no reservation on a very busy night. Reserve or expect a wait, all nights!
E. P.
Amazing restaurant! We had the tasting menu and I would highly recommend it. All the dishes on this menu were so tasty. I've been telling so many people about this place.
L. A.
Always a good idea! Great drinks, dish after dish that's packed with flavour and a great vibe at a reasonable price. I've returned here so many times and that's saying something for London.
L. T.
Crab and wings were excellent. Highly recommend.
J. M.
A dozen or so highly trained and dedicated professionals run a watertight operation down there in the kitchen, everyone knows their job and executes it efficiently and without fail. Those kids are dynamite.
The food is marvelous, well crafted and exquisitely presented with ingredients of a high calibre that make the wannabe chef in me green with envy. I wish I had a third of the tools and toys they have in there and if I could buy from their suppliers I'd eat like a king but be broke in a week.
Serving the food are the front of house team, a grand assortment of genuinely nice folks. From the commis chef through to the FoH manager I can tell you they're all lovely folks.
The location is perfect, Old Compton Street in Soho is a great place and they're right next door to Lab which is a genuinely awesome bar well worth a visit. They've also got a totally inferior Japanese place next door who cannot compete with Shackfuyu at all.
The bar however isn't perfect.
M. G.
Perfect for a pre or post theatre visit, we popped in late on a Sunday afternoon after a theatre showing and had the place to ourselves. With one of the more extensive and readily available Saki menus, it's a great place to just sit with friends and just try a variety of saki.
My only regret was not having enough time for the French Toast with Macha Ice-cream! Next time...
D. M.
Great food and friendly service. Order the aubergine
C. M.
We had the most amazing food, cocktaips were brilliant. Loved the whole thing
M. A.
One of my favourite places to eat in London. I keep coming back. Favourites of mine include; the korean wings, the eggplant, the bossam short rib, and the french toast with green tea ice cream. Skip the cocktails and just go for beer, it goes better with the food.
K. M.
Generous portion of matcha soft serve 🍦 but matcha flavour was not as rich as elsewhere and ice cream melted quickly than expected on the hot plate. Kinako French toast was hot and soft but nothing special about it. I like the hot and cold combination but personally think £6.50 + 12.5% service charge is expensive, a bit overpriced perhaps 🤔
L. P.
Spectacular food, was really blown away by the quality of tastes and textures. You don't eat food like this every day. Try the bottomless brunch on Sunday, you get unlimited starters and wine!
H. M.
Korean fried wings are just the best!.. also really love the hot stone rice and the miso butter mushrooms!.. tip: ask for extra miso butter and pour it all over the hot stone rice.. it's absolutely amazing..anddo not forget to try the kinako french toast 😍😍😍 there is a reason why there is just one dessert on the menu!
R. B.
I was surprised to find out this was not a ramen place like the other on Peter St but rather a Japanese fusion Izakaya style place. While the concept is great the prices are steep for the size of portions. The prawn toast mimicking to be an okonomiyaki is just one bite! The kare pan was nice though.
F. i. h. w.
Good place if you fancy a mix of Japanese and Western food. Service is very decent as well (still looking for some smiles on some of their faces though). Restaurant itself looks good. Not uber-exciting style though!
D. F.
I went to Flat Iron with friends close by, but I told them to eat their steak but to not order any dessert. We were going to hop across the road in Soho New York style just to get dessert. And not any dessert. A dessert I had heard was worth going to Shackfuyu alone.
As we hopped across, informing the staff if they could fit us four somewhere and that we would only have to dessert they were more than welcoming. Getting us a nice table in the back lively room.
The dessert? Oh yeah that....well it was a soft serve Matcha Green Tea with some Kinako French Toast. We could see them putting it on the plate Mr Whippy style as the machine was next to us. And boy was it worth the effort. In fact one dessert is more than enough for two people! It was the perfect guilty pleasure. Had to do a run the next day just to make myself feel like I wasn't going into a soft serve dream. I love the Japanese pop ups and this Bone Daddies spin off is worth going just for that.
S. R.
Visited Sunday morning. Staff was incredibly friendly, plus food was good value (compared to other 'Asian tapas' style restaurants e.g. Bao) and SO TASTY! I recommend the duck bun, curry doughnut and french toast.
b. k.
An interesting Japanese fusion place - a definitive must-visit place, but I'm reluctant about returning for the same meals more than once.
Must trys include rabbit katsu curry, ox cheek bao and prawn toast. Add a bit of eddamame to the mix just because :)
M. D.
An absolute cracker of a restaurant in soho. Great atmosphere, and food is absolutely on point. Highly recommend the chicken wings and the sukiyaki style waguy (seriously don't miss the latter, and ask for extra bao buns for the sauce)
E. s.
Great brunch here and the staff were really helpful and friendly. On the whole the food was excellent although there were a couple of misses like an overly orangey hoisin sauce with the duck but the service more than made up for it.
G. C.
Great food, good atmosphere, good service. Prawn toast is a must have. £35 tasting menu with sake is good value make sure you are hungry!
M. G.
Great customer service, amazing food
T. L.
Not too sure about the food and drinks, but their kinako powder French toast with matcha ice cream is thus far the best dessert I have had in London. It is my go to place whenever a friend is in town.
H. H.
Loved the latest opening for the Bone Daddies guys! So close to theatre land so perfect for a quick meal pre performance. Highlights would have to me the prawn toast (watch it dance) and the scallops. Don't forget to check out the hidden cocktail bar downstairs.
B. P.
Amazing food! Loved our dessert espdcially: green tea ice cream and warm french toast..mmm
Our service was also really good! Had a great time!
K. Š.
Great food, great wait staff, really accommodating for my dietary restrictions. Will be coming back!
P. O.
Went just for the kinako french toast after hearing from friends about the dessert. You’ll have to stand if you’re just getting dessert though, even if there are tons of empty bar seats... :/
R. M.
Had such a fantastic meal here a couple of months ago. If you've been to other bone daddies restaurants or not, you definitely won't be disappointed. If you're going as a couple I'd recommend trying to go near the back of the restaurant.
L. L. G.
While the description of the food may leave some perplexed (Western-style Japanese comfort food), it is truly a little gem of a restaurant. Must tries are the wagyu beef and the whole fried seabass. Can be extremely loud on a busy night though.
Κ. Α.
One of the best places to taste Japanese kitchen, if you are an amateur especially. Low prices, high-quality. I will visit it again soon!
D. B.
Recommend the set menu for great food and good value, decent size portions...prawn toast and pork the stand out dishes. Easy to get a table even on a busy Friday night.
J. L.
Superb mochi toast with green tea ice cream. I scream for shack fuyu ice cream!
K.
Pricey but the food is good.
M.
Good menu and nice food, but the service was lacking - seemed to be very sporadic with items left out of the order. Shame, as with good service I wouldn't hesitate in recommending the place for a quick, reasonably priced place to eat.
W. S.
I loved this place . Food was so so different . Vibrant atmosphere only let down by slightly squashed area. So many people in such a small restaurant. Loved the prawn toast - ( a food surprise!)
M. S. B.
I had an excellent experience; an acquaintance told me some negative points of the place which I can deny you without any concern.
The service is excellent, and the food is fabulous, an incredible amount of people came to the place during the 2 hours we sat.
Great.
V. L.
Highly recommend their matcha french toast dessert. Main course are also quite nice. However portions are a bit small.
S. N.
So so good - have gone so many times over the years and they have never let me down
S. W.
Came here for brunch - not too many veggie options, but the veggie katsu curry I had and the aubergine bun were delicious. Service, however, was a bit cold.
T. S.
A sideways spin on Japanese cuisine. Takes elements that are familiar to fans of Japanese food (izakaya style grilled goods, okonomiyaki, etc) and spins them in some unsuspecting directions. Well worth a visit. Oh, and random fact, but the loos are top-notch individual stalls
B. D.
Was really good and the staff was super friendly.

I don’t even like Japanese but my friend dragged me there for a bottomless lunch. Well... I love Japanese now! Superb!
J. T.
the famous Matcha toast is quite nice but feel like it is overrated due to my high expectation on it. Price is reasonable tough £7.50 for one

Japanese and Korean style food, good 'sake' flutes. Injelomi dessert with matcha ice-cream was very tasty too. Worth a visit.
H. N.
The food was amazing! Will definitely come back and try their desserts. The place was very noisy, though (came at about 9).

the brioche french toast w/ green tea ice cream is by far my favourite dessert in london!!! the texture of the brioche is out of this world!!!
B. S.
Food and service was amazing!!! Thank you!!!
Y. L.
Back here for the second time for the dessert. I must say I was more impressed with it the first time. Nonetheless the toast impressed my friends who were trying it for the first time. Service on this visit was bad.
W. R.
The service isn't particularly good. Perhaps that's because it's too compact. There's hardly any space to move.
The food was delicious but it's overpriced by at least 15% in my opinion.

Food is tasty. Bow...with chicken. Local Desert this Year winner so far. Service perfect. Sorry no photos, was enjoying food😁
S. D.
Amazing. The short rib beef is not to be missed! Small plates are all delicious, miss a meal before you come here!
A. H.
Very accommodating with social distancing. Great food, cocktails a little disappointing. Still a very enjoyable meal

Friendly staff. The fusion food was innovative and tasted lovely. The portion was nonetheless a bit small but food was good for sharing.

The best set menu London has to offer! Such a great vibe too!
W. Y.
The steak had a delicious sauce and the amazing dessert which is the only one on the menu is a special french toast with green tea soft serve ice cream.
K. H.
Loved that place!!!!!!!!! I wish I could eat there everyday :) We took a lot of dishes and all of them were amazing. Keep some space for the dessert
A. C.
We've celebrated my hen party here. Staff is friendly, food is delicious and the drinks both look and taste good!
M. B.
I really recommend this place! Manager was really helpful as we made a mistake with your booking. Good food and friendly staff.
J. E.
The food was so creative and still very tasty.

Celebrated a friend's birthday here. The staff are helpful.... not much vegetarian option though....upstairs is for drinks which looked lovely.

Really good Japanese comfort food, Izakaya-style. This place is really relaxed and casual, full of cool people with good vibes. Food is awesome.
K. N.
Recommend the prawn toast and the sukiyaki style wagyu picanha which was sublime. Amazing food and great service. A little tight on space but all in all a wonderful place.
L. a.
Fantastic place! Amazing food and service! Their dessert is literally the best I’ve tried in a very long time!
Y. A.
Great for frozen margs and bao buns. Finish of with their signiture French toast!
J. S.
Food was 4.5, staff were 5. Extremely attentive and helpful! Fun atmosphere, definitely better for groups 4+
C. L.
The tasting menu was so good. The prawn pancake, Korean wings were very good and the same I had was delicious
H. P.
A few good dishes like strong rice pots and lamb bau. But sushi was very average and service was not great ....
A. L.
Great fusion of Japanese Korean and Spanish, some dishes are worth the visit on their own.
Nice atmosphere, especially at the bar.
G. S.
It has lost quite a bit of its sparkle (and unfortunately, quality) over the years. It still gets 3 stars if only for its Kinako French Toast even if it is also slightly less perfect than before.
H. S.
The food and service is good enough for central London. Nothing really stood out though; and price is a little high for a "street-food" style menu.
M. G.
Excellent food and service. Highlights were the yuzu margaritas, ox cheek bay buns and the French toast (obviously)
S. W.
We were there for a bottomless brunch with friends - and while the pineapple saki was delicious, the food was utterly fantastic. Superbly friendly staff as well.
S. H.
Amazing food, also gave us a little candle for the French toast and sang happy birthday!
J. S.
Amazing food, loved everything about it.
K. M.
That French toast is to die for! Perfectly balanced taste.
J. B.
Food is excellent, music is great (classic rock mainly) service is top quality. Highly recommend the miso aubergines!
T. R.
Shame about the service. Most of the dishes were nice, some dissapointing. But the service wasn't good- apart from one waiter who was very good the others were rude and disinterested.
S. S.
Classy environment and extremely good food! Leave some space for the dessert, you won't be disappointed!
Y. Q.
French toast w matcha was amazing!!!!
P. M.
The seabass cerviche and Kinako french toast with Matcha ice cream is still the best thing around
A. B.
Really great sharing dishes, Wagyu, lamb and chicken wings were standouts, as was the French toast and matcha green tea icecream.
M. M.
Great place, food was amazing and service very nice!
L. K.
Food was excellent, although I can't remember a single dish name ... Went by server's recommendation and totally worth it :)
M. K.
Absolutely brilliant! From the atmosphere to the service to the food, everything was fantastic. I would and do recommend this restaurant to any and all. Bon Appetit!

Super tasty and filling I can't recommend the French toast pudding and ice cream enough! My god is it amazing!!

Such delicious food in a clean, cozy place. The drink called Gini Hendrix is soooo good if you like gin.
O. S.
Excellent service and food was great - big portions, affordable and delicious. Will be returning!
R. A.
Absolutely yum food... Third time here the matcha soft serve with the French toast is heavenly
N. C.
Really tasty food! Not quite 5 stars as the portion sizes are smaller than I was expecting
H. R.
Oh my gosh what amazing food
R. D.
Loved it. Crazy place, buzzing atmosphere and great food. Not cheap though, be warned. My pick: the aubergine!
G.
Really tasty food!

Been hearing about this restaurant for a year. Food is great, gotta try the rice dish.
Worth the wait , better to make a reservation lol it gets crowded fast
J. A. A. P.
Kinkao French Toast is sublime.
F. M.
Food was great 5/5! Is definitely worth a visit.
Patience is required with service though.. 2/5.
Ambience and decor 3/5.
N. S.
Excellent tasty food and good service. There are quite a few places in this area that are just about image with average food. You also get good food here !
