Reviews of The Brownswood
L. B.
We held our civil partnership evening celebration in the upstairs room at the pub, and could not have been happier. It's a lovely space, and Mike and the team went above and beyond to accommodate us and make sure our evening was special. The food was great and there was plenty of it! Would definitely recommend.
C. R.
This pub never fails to impress me. Rapid and good quality food. Fantastic beer garden and upstairs area. Polite and friendly staff. I am full of nothing but praise!

Amazing Pub and Guesthouse. We had an amazing room (room 2 with rolltop bath) for two nights and the staff (especially Ella) were the most helpful I have ever had in a hotel. I can't fault anything at all, maybe the only recommendation would be to have a mini fridge in the room to store you're own drinks such as extra milk or cans of pop. Other than that cleanliness was on point. We had amazing food from downstairs. The garden was lovely. Drinks were lovely. Breakfast was beautiful. Ten minutes walk to the nearest tube station and like I say staff were super accomodating! Really happy with our stay and service and would definitely stop there again in the future or recommend to others. Thankyou so much for our experience with you!

Was a little while ago when I’ve visited but their food and drinks selection was quite good. I remember that I really enjoyed the falafel wrap and roast lamb.
They’ve got good indoor and outdoor area.
Staff have been pleasant.
Will update again when I next visit.

The food is quite good, and fresh. Decent beer selection. The fireplace upstairs is the best in winter time
J. T.
Delicious roast dinner. And a lovely pub. Thanks again chef Sam!

We sat outside in the garden, the setting was very nice, lots of tables. The table we were at seated eight easily but it and the table was too low for me to sit at for a long time (age and knees)but good to have a choice.
Our food was very nice and reasonably priced, our waitress was lovely and helpful, I would recommend a visit.
B. b. I. (.
Excellent Sunday roast and pleasant staff ,choices were Lamb,Beef and a vegetarian option .I went for the Lamb. Brilliant .I would highly recommend .

I booked a space at the Brownswood for my birthday. It was for 24 people. It was a last minute booking and they could not have been more accommodating. Due to it being sunny when we arrived they found us a table in the garden instead of four tables inside, so we could all be together. They were really helpful and friendly and I would recommend this place for a few drinks on the weekend and definitely if your having a party
D. B.
It is one of the cosiest pub in north London and they have the best fish and chips!
a. k.
Lovely pub.....Nice food....Awesome upstairs seated area.
R. C.
I was there last night with my friends and we really had a good a time. I was not able to order online, and the manager who was at the bar came to take my order and recommended the IPA which was really nice beer and i will definitely have this beer again. Friendly staff and delicious food.
M. H.
A welcoming pub in which the staff members courteously and professionally deal with the customer's needs. They offer a wide range of beers and a varied food menu. As such, I would certainly recommend the Brownswood pub.
T. P.
Booked the room upstairs for my girlfriends 30th. Great space and great food (just wish I’d ordered more) with really helpful and friendly staff.
T. S.
A magnificent, dog-friendly pub with friendly staff and great food. On consecutive Sundays, I've had a beef, pork and lamb roasts and they were all delicious. The garden is a real bonus - not too crammed and with heaters in the winter. We are about to go into second lockdown and this is the place I'll miss most!
S. B.
Nice little pub, often filled with climbers from the castle climbing center
a. b.
Really good pub, I've always enjoyed going there. However on my recent visit they completely forgot our last order placed at about half 9, when we chased it, no-one had put it through and only had ten minutes to drink the ordered pint + whisky.
Furthermore, they had a restricted spirit list, I understand this for beer, not for spirits with a better shelf life.
R. T.
Not a bad pub. Friendly staff and super quick service for the Sunday roasts. Really high ceilings and very spacious bar which makes it a pleasant place to hang out. I wasn’t a massive fan of the veggie roast but I’m very fussy! Huge upstairs room too available for private hire. The pub is set on a corner with huge windows so its light and airy.
A. V. C.
Best roast in North London! The service was excellent.
B. L.
I really love the pub garden here. They’ve made it really pretty with lots of twinkly lights. They also take walk-ins which is much appreciated. I often end up here after spending the day in Clissold Park.
F. S.
Came here on Sunday evening and the atmosphere was amazing, the staff were polite and the veggie burger was fantastic. The manager even seated us near the heaters because of how cold it was. Overall 10/10
G. P.
The food was average at best. The servers seemed to have had a bad night or not very enthusiastic serving customers. The garden is a delight though.
A. T.
We had a superb roast in this lovely venue, with great traditional pub food, craft and ale beers. The atmosphere couldn't have been better, service is helpful and charming; they even recommended beer pairing with our meals and it was so spot on! Thanks Owen for such an amazing experience. Definitely will be coming back anytime I'm in the area!
A. B.
The climbers pub! I've been climbing to the castle for few years now and everyone that goes there goes to the Brownswood for a pint!
Back in th day the food wasn't great but after a climbing session you could eat everything eheh.
Today I went back after months of lockdown and I was really really impressed! The quality really jump higher especially for vegetarians and vegans!
N. R.
It's an excellent pub on the edge or Hackney
J. M.
A brilliant pub in a good bit of London. Go here. Tell them Joe Cleary sent ya!
K. G.
Space had been reserved and there were no mix ups. Nice atmosphere. Although apparently understaffed according to the person who served me, staff were friendly and efficient. Decent selection of draft beer and cider. Great smells from the kitchen tho I didn't eat.
N. R.
Lovely pub, friendly staff, good beer selection
A. H.
Usually fully booked and hard to get a table here, so a little surprised that food quality wasn't that great. Decent pub food, had to pay each time any item arrived individually.
I. H. J.
Very good meal . Great Sunday lunch and atmosphere. Staff fab.
A. H.
Lovely place. All the servers were so friendly and sweet, would come back again just because lovely service. They were so good that I wrote their names down for this review (Daphne, Aeron, Bilal an Max)
T. S.
Staff was super nice, food was really good, drinks too... The star down is only for getting the order a bit wrong, which I understand, because they were really busy. Overall really happy with everything
L. P.
Great pub for a few after you're done climbing at the castle. The garden area is great, especially in the summer. Food used to be incredible but has gone downhill slightly in the last few years - distinct lack of a decent vegan option.
J. R.
great pub. pretty garden for summer and toasty fires in winter. the room upstairs is lively for Sunday roast with a group of friends. menu is simple but solid. sausage platter is recommended. Kid friendly too.
S. W.
Nice pub, fairly busy so we couldn't find anywhere to sir, fortunately there is plenty of space to prop up the bar along with outside seating (with some covered and heated areas for the colder weather). Reasonable selection of beers with friendly staff, I'd definitely recommend starting a night here before moving on to somewhere more lively. Good location for a pint after walking around the park.
P. W.
Classic pub with lodging above. We stayed there 4 days, and had a couple of pub meals.
Lodging: 6 guest rooms, newly renovated. Beds very good, medium-firm. Nice bathroom, good sized with walk-in shower. Good toiletries. Convenient to several bus lines. High quality continental breakfast served in a bright, airy room. I especially appreciate the Spence sourdough (very good local bakery), and good coffee & tea. Very helpful & friendly staff.
Pub: friendly, helpful staff; classic pub fare as it should be. Good selection of beers/ales and a few well chosen Scotch brought enjoyment. Crispy roast potatoes went nicely with the Sunday roast; the steak & ale pie and Cumberland sausage were very good.
Quiz night on Wednesdays
We've already booked the room for our next visit.
Owned by the same folks who own the Rose & Crown in Stoke Newington
(Caveat: this is not rated as a trendy, costly gastropub with luxury lodgings)
D. K. M.
Quite a nice pub with a good selection of beer. Lovely outside garden or the pub it self is packed with character and period features. The food however is poorly executed. The chicken burger was terrible. Dry dry dry and the minuscule dollop of garlic mayo didn’t help the dryness. Go here for drinks and the pub quiz but avoid the food.
C. N.
Visited on a Sunday evening, post castle climbing session. Wasn't too busy initially, filled up a bit later on.
A bit disappointed that it was only the sunday roast menu available, not the rest of the menu as well. Having said that, roast was very good, tasty with lots of food.
Disappointing selection of ciders available (on previous visits has been much more of a selection).
Nice pub, reasonable price, good atmosphere, but sticky tables need a damn good clean!!
M. E.
Very nice local boozer, with original features.
The upstairs is often available, and they are very good at making sure the outside space is suitable for whatever season (shelter in winter, shade in summer).
Food is decent pub grub, served very quickly normally. Vegetarian and vegan option normally available.
Always a good selection of beers or ciders with new ones to try regularly.
B. K.
We held our wedding reception at The Brownswood and couldn't recommend it enough! In the lead up to the event they were communicative, on the day the team at The Brownswood were fantastic. They made sure everything ran smoothly, and the food was great too. Mike, who oversaw everything is such a lovely guy and made us feel really welcome! Thank you for helping us feel relaxed on our wedding day and making us feel special!
J. K.
I've been coming to this pub on and off for a while; today I had an amazing roast and a perfect pint of ale. The assistant manger Michael was particularity attentive. The staff here does a great job, especially given how busy the pub gets! Always worth a visit.
K. P. (.
Absolutely love this pub! They've got Perry and the staff are always friendly. The food's ok, but the vegetarian options have definitely been increasing. Love how I always get a hello when I walk in and the staff have modified their kitchen hours to suit the climbing centre up the road.
During the day/afternoons it's family/dog friendly and in the evenings there's always a friendly crowd. :)
J. R.
Great local pub with good food selection. Recommend the German sausage platter!
Gets busy on Friday nights, but never had a problem to grab a seat inside or outside in the beer garden. And they do a regular pub quiz, too!
d. I.
Amazing service, I didn’t have a booking but the supervisor who was on the bar sat us in a beautiful spot near the heaters, defiantly coming here again for a good night out with my mates!
A.
Really love this pub! The staff are really friendly and always make me feel welcome. It has a good atmosphere and the food is great. The beer garden has been great this summer!
H. M.
Lovely pub, mostly fab staff. Only complaint is their reluctance to light their lovely fireplaces. It's mid Jan and was told it's too cold to light the fireplace upstairs. They have two downstairs and only keep the one right by the front door open so is still cold. In comparison to their neighbour, the clissold park tavern, they fare quite short. The Brownswood is better priced but you forgo WiFi, a fireplace (which will be happily lit on your request at the clissold park tavern) and any screen to watch any sports.
M. P.
I live locally and this pub is my favourite destination for a drink outside (lovely courtyard), cosy supper (fires in winter), quiz on a Wednesday night with Adam, and most recently even to stay over! They’ve added some quaint little rooms and I stayed and had breakfast a few weeks ago, just for fun. Good good, reasonably priced drink, and friendly staff.
F. F.
I have been going to the browswood for over ten years and seen this place change enormously. I was fond of the old days where anything could happen and you'd sometime had to serve your own pint. After the place was turned into an upmarket pub, I was worried but I now prefer it the way it is now. The beer is of top quality, and so is the food. The atmosphere is great and the people are friendly and diverse. It is by far the best pub within a mile.
S. R.
+++this place is very nice, it has a downstairs and an upstairs. And it is very spacious with a lot of tables which are not crowded together and have a lot of space so you can speak privately to people and not feel like you are in a school canteen or prison. The staff are very friendly and very open and kind and will spend time to chat to you to find out what drink you would like. Food is served her. The is toilet here which has good cleanliness And there are mirrors on the wall and lots of different decorations and interesting decor. There is a fireplace which probably isn't in use anymore, but looks They are comfy seats available, for example sofas. there is books on a bookshelf where you can do a book swap, and there are living plants which is a lovely saying, and there are candles lit in the evening, and they're chandeliers on the ceiling which look very beautiful. Recommended +++++++

We booked lunch for 35-40 people for a Sunday roast the day after our wedding (11 Feb 2018) and it worked out perfectly. The Brownswood used to be our local, and after getting married nearby we wanted to have a wedding debrief with friends and family the next day. We booked half of the upstairs and people could pop in and eat, drink or just sit quietly and recover from the night before! Kenny and his team looked after us really well; and the hearty food, and good booze were a fab end to a wonderful weekend. Thank you! Bob and Tanya
L. W.
Impressive customer service, great food!!!
My friend and I visited The Brownswood after a late climbing session at the castle. I was very hungry but at 8:30pm the kitchen was already closed. To my surprise the manager offered to make a roast lamb of the menu for me. I was little bit shocked by the generosity, but accepted his offer. The outcome was great! Medium leg of lamb with great veg and potatoes. I will definitely be back (probably little earlier) thank you so much
A. R.
The Brownswood is hands down the best roast I had in London . I've been twice now and the standard is exceptional with a good selection of sides and puddings. Today I've had my first experience of their daily menu and been impressed yet again. The Garlic bread and Mac and cheese is excellent. I think I might have found the best pub food in north London .If I could give 10 stars I would.
S. E.
Lovely pub with a massive beer garden. A little bit out of the way so in summer you will always find some space. Good selection of well kept ales and lagers. The food is really good, based on the couple of times I have eaten here.
F. T.
Lovely local pub with friendly staff, good choices of beers and food reasonably priced. There is not much vegetarian/vegan dishes, it would be lovely to see more plant based food.
A. T.
I might pop in for 1 Guinness black, i might pop in for 5 Guinness blacks. Definitely worth popping in.
I. I.
Great pub! Both myself and my fiancé are disabled and the staff couldn't do enough for us and made sure they checked regularly that everything was OK. The food is on another level and definitely better than 99% of the pub grub I've experienced. The one thing is I don't drink, but my fiancé does and I found that the soft drinks and the alcohol was a bit on the pricie side. All in all though a lovely pub that we are happy to have as our local!
S. M.
Love the Brownswood. Always friendly staff and great fresh food. Typified the last time I went in with my family. The bald manager (Mark I think his name is) was very helpful and accommodating getting us a table for Sunday roast even though they were fully booked. Will be back!
J. C.
I visited The Brownswood with my friends last Wednesday and had the best experience, the food was really tasty (I personally enjoyed my caesar salad) and the staff was very friendly. Mike looked after us well, recommended us some good ales and made our evening enjoyable. Overall we had a brilliant time and we might even try the quiz next time as it looked like fun!
S. r.
Vibe was nice and the burger with sweet potato fries 😍
L. B.
Nice place to drink, fair few ales on tap. The pub quiz is pretty good but the food is really not very nice (at a guess frozen and reheated stuff). Would be a solid 4 stars if they upped their food game.

Chilled Hangout
We came on our way through the area for a weekend lunch and what a cute spot. Good hearty pub classics (had fish and chips!) and buzzing atmosphere. Loved sampling a few ciders as well. We’ll be back for sure!
E. T.
Such a great London pub with good selection of beer, wine and cider. Massive but simple beer garden for the summer and roaring fire and board games for winter. Staff are super chilled and you can have some food. One of my favourite pubs
L. B.
Probably the best roast lunch I've had in London. It's a simple bup with good Beers. But the food is superb. Hearty and full of flavour, the quantities of meat are generous and the standard of cooking is outstanding.
When the word gastro-pub was invented, this is the place that should be the first entry in this area.
J. S.
Lucky to have The Brownswood as my local. Decent range of drinks inc real ales, wines and ciders. Food is always very good, - try the burger! Friendly management and regular themed nights. Their pub quiz on a Wednesday is very popular so book ahead!
J. O.
Great Sunday roast - especially the slow roast lamb. We had a large party and the staff handled it superbly; everything came at the right time and hot, plus splitting the bill was handled nicely. Would definitely look to book an event here in the future.
G. E.
Went with climbers at c.10pm. No soundproofing so slap-back echo and therefore very, very noisy. My steak and ale pie was cold in the middle (we were the last food order). Cashless, though, (cards only) which is awesome. Staff friendly. Needs some acoustic padding. Lots of climbers from the Castle go there after 10pm for food and drinks. It can get unusually noisy....
s. v.
Wow Pub.
I am local, my friends came to see me, we decided to go to this pub to eat something, we chose an amazing Sunday roast.... wonderful very happy, after we had tiramisu, very, very good.... We couldn't have best lunch. I can see the Kitchen have improved with quality. Well done see you soon again. I definitely suggest to try this amazing place. Best Simon
J. l.
Birthday gathering here today with some friends and family I’m always a bit skeptical coming to new places to eat and drink especially with family. However a friend of mine recommended the Brownswood and I can honestly say it was one of the best Sunday lunches i have had in a while. My dad is very particular about his beer and even he gave this place a thumbs up. Will definitely be back! Thank you again.
D. W.
Good Sunday roast menu and very broad wine and beers menu. Well prepared food and some interesting options. roast is amazing, it's a definete must try. We had lamb and beef. The portions are massive.
M. M.
Nice local pub with good ale options - last time I visited, they even had gluten free beer. Decent Sunday roast, however the staff weren't able to provide any gluten free option - roast was the only item on the menu on Sunday evening.
L. H.
Good size garden, quick service, only had a pint so can't comment on food
M. R.
Loved the bold well proportioned Victorian architecture. Bright expansive upstairs room for a party of 15. Scrubbed pine tables , bare brick walls, large windows onto street. Good food and service.
D. T.
All the key requirements of a pub, nice seating areas including a nice large outdoor space, good wine. The food is ok with an all day roast on Sunday instead of the normal menu. A bit over priced.
C. R.
One of the best pubs in London! Big beer garden, wood panelling and lovely staff. Good selection of beers and gins and tasty food.
I. P.
Nice and humble place with good food, good beers and cool waitress. I just recommend more heaters to make it warmer.
M.
We moved next door 6 months ago and have made it our weekly ritual. The food is delicious, service friendly, and good selection of beer and cider. Upstairs is cosy in winter and the garden is perfect in summer. Recommend not coming here so we can keep it to ourselves ;)
R. A.
Really nice place for an outdoor drink in the sun. Surprisingly quiet. You have to order through an app but it's pretty quick
W. M.
Great people, working very hard for our pleasure!"
K. V.
The best place! Amazing food, Simple but delicious.
Recommend the home made Scotch egg and Halloumi avocado salad . Also Cumberland sausage are really great.
There's a wonderful garden for sunny days.
A. M.
One of the best pubs in this part of London. Food is a little pants (crap veggie options) but the place is just perfect other wise. Always a decent guest ale and a fire in the winter.
J. T.
Nice pub. Quite like it. Great outdoor sitting place. Serves a good range of largers and ales.
Gets busy on Wednesday because of their pub quiz so would avoid.
Food here is dire.
K. S.
I went to this pub and had a great time the staff were friendly and helpful and the food was amazing we had the special on a Tuesday night which was Curry and I have to say it was brilliant and then for dessert I had a tiramisu which tasted out of this world and my friend had the sticky toffee which had home made sauce with it which now I'm afraid she has said she is coming Bach for at least once a week lol. Great pub and great food I would recommend xx
S. B.
I have been to Brownswood on my recent visit to London. The staff was really friendly and welcoming, once at the bar, as I don't usually drink beer I got suggested and offered tastes of the selections and I also ordered a halloumi burger which was really nice! It was a warm night so me and my friends set on the garden and enjoyed the atmosphere! Absolutely worth it!
T. M.
Went out on a limb and came to this pub for lunch last Sunday. Pleasantly surprised! Really good food and service. Don't understand all the bad reviews I'm seeing! I feel this may become my local!
M. W.
EDIT: Aug 2016. Came back here after a couple of months, and was served a large portion of humble pie. There has been significant improvement, they're on the road back to greatness. The staff were great, and the chicken burger with bacon and cheese was awesome. Level-up: 4 stars. Back in the game Brownswood!
We have been coming here a lot over the last couple of years. It has always been a great pub, with great staff, a perfectly adequate selection of beers, great beer garden, buy most importantly, it punched well above it's weight on it's food. Sadly, recently the food has deteriorated to barely average. The Brownswood Burger, and the Chicken Burger used to be fantastic, and the Superfood Salad had the power to turn a devout meatarian to the vege side. In the last few months, the burgers have dropped some of the ingredients that made them so good, and the price has remained relatively unchanged. The meat is sometimes dry, and the burgers just generally lack punch. I would rather pay a bit more for the old burgers, and to have the salad back. Still holding out hope for improvement, as this is a fantastic pub, but in the meantime, we'll be looking for other options for our weekly post-activity hydration and sustenance.
J. G.
Beautiful old school pub. Traditional style. Great outdoors area. Hot tip: the padlocks on the gate are just for show during open hours so if you have a bike you're taking in with you, all you need to do is pull on the black peg.
A. C.
Stayed for the NFL game at Spurs. The staff are outstanding on the customer service side. The rooms are spacious and comfortable.
The food is a good standard and the service, is friendly, quick and efficient.
A. S.
Lovely pub with super friendly staff who seem to genuinely want customers to be satisfied. The food is okay to good - they could really do well by upping their game on that front. I'd be in there two nights a week if the introduced some variety and raised the standards.
J. L.
Food was really average, I've had a better experience there before. Atmosphere is good.
F. W.
Nice pub, with a very large garden. Food looks good, but haven't tried it. Only issue is that every time I go I have to wait longer than I should to be served
J. M.
Enjoyable evening. Well organised re Covid restrictions. Will go there again.
L. L.
Modest but reasonable selection of fairly traditional beer. Outside seating is nice and capacious. Food is a bit expensive - £4 for chips!
t. m.
Chilled out place with modern touches to pub food classics. Great service. Not expensive but not cheap. The outside area is great in the sunshine. There's a great big castle across the road. What's not to love?
A. H.
They gave me the wrong Sunday roast and didn't believe me or offer to change it! Lamb and beef are very different indeed, if neither a waiter nor chef can tell the difference then that's quite pathetic - but to treat the customer rudely on top of that and refuse to change it or refund is outrageous. Very strange exchange that left me feeling annoyed and humiliated. Thank goodness I don't have allergies!
N. C.
Good beer and two guest ciders. The guest ciders were good, though not exactly to my personal taste. Nice aesthetic and good service. Haven't tried the food, though it looks great.
E. C.
Great pub! The staff are super friendly would definitely recommend!
A. B.
Great selection of beers fantastic beer garden and good food. Service is a little slow but the staff are always great. They have a quiz and also allow dogs in the pub which I like.
J. R. W.
Nice pub relaxed atmosphere, very popular with the climbers from the Castle climbing center. Reasonably priced for London :) Serves food and has a bear Garden for when the weather is suitable.
A. S. I.
I did the trivia here! Very fun! Not very easy! Came 3rd too, so extra fun. Also ate nachos and sweet potato fries, both tasty. Nothing spectacular but fun. I said fun 3 times! Try it out.
E. H.
Had the roast lamb and veggie roast and kids roast chicken (which is huge) on Sun 19th feb food was amazing lamb was by far the best roast I had in this area of which I tried a few my kids where welcomed by all staff and this made my afternoon a lot more pleasant, great atmosphere very clean facility's highly recommended the sticky toffee pudding tasted like my nan had made it. Defiantly be returning as it was great value for money and delicious all round.
Q. E.
Lovely Roast here today, the vibe is so nice. Staff were polite and attentive. Would highly recommend if you're on the lookout for a proper Sunday roast and some drinks!!! Thank you!
C. D. (.
This is a great pub with a large beer garden and a comfortable upstairs area to dine and relax. I've lived just nearby for a couple of years and i've enjoyed many sunday roasts in winter and beers in the beer garden during warm summer evenings. The daily menu is ok, i'd recommend a burger or the fish and chips,(which is huge). Sundays are the day to eat though, the lamb roast is lovely. Clissold park is just next to the Brownswood and it is a hidden gem in london. the Climbing castle is just over the road and is also worth checking out. the 106,141 and 341 busses run straight to the brownswood otherwise it's a 10min walk from manor house tube station.
C. L.
Really lively pub, great atmosphere. They don't take cash so remember your card! And the pub quiz is do much fun! Especially when I'm hosting 😉
A. W.
I would not go for food but for a chilled out drink this is nice and local :)
H. S.
Good beers but the food wasn't great - fish and chips batter very chewy and burgers pretty dry. Benn before and food was better so maybe just an off day for the guys there
N. H.
I clean and spacious pub, great for groups and families. A good array of beer is provided, and the food is British cuisine, of good quality and size.
N. H.
Nice pub, bar staff really friendly - great way to spend post-lockdown days in north London
A. C.
This is one of the best meals you will have
M. D.
One of the best roasts I have had in a while. Lovely atmosphere and fantastic service. Only thing missing is cauliflower and cheese, otherwise perfect.
R. B.
Great local pub, I moved nearby 4 years ago and it was a bit of a dump. It was done up a few years ago and is always busy now, especially week nights. Great food especially the fish and chips.
G. B.
I like the Brownswood. It is a no frills pub with a large beer garden and decent food. Serves humble real ales and no craft if that's your thing. Generally young crowd but all feel welcome.
D. H.
Good beer and outside seating area on the sun but had a hell of a wait for our sunday roast said 20 mins more like 45 then two came forgot about the third had to remind then .. but don't get me wrong worth the wait
A. H.
Been going here as the post-climbing pub for a while now, but very disappointed with the recent change in the menu that removed both of the vegetarian mains. It's 2019, you can do better, Brownswood!
D. L.
Decent pub, with a pretty good selection of beers and other drinks, and they do really good food too. Especially the fish and chips. Lovely.
E. A.
Love the wood burner upstairs. Great table service too and massive open windows.
A. M.
Been coming here for a while. Great 'local boozer' feel to the place, staff always helpful in my experience, lots of space and good vibe at the weekends. Main meals are about 10 quid...can't really complain
R. P. M.
Lovely atmosphere family and partners friendly staff that actually smiled came here with my partner for Sunday roast enjoyed the whole experience seated straight away, services was great and the food was delightful (rib eye recommended) we’ll definitely be coming back!
R. C.
Nice pub with a good sized outdoors area and upstairs. Perfect for a sunny day, though food quality has been variable in my experience.
J. W.
Dog friendly. Large spaces, including up and down stairs and outside, heaters and shelter. Nice staff, nice selection of beers
T. B.
Amazing food, huge portions , recommend the chicken and the spinach Wellington . Ended up waiting around 30/40 mins for dessert due to a printer error but everything else was amazing
B. Y.
Nicely decked out old pub with a stripped down look. Nice garden, good range of beers and generous well-cooked food.
T. E.
It's a reasonable pub. The beer is good, as is the food. It's open after the Castle closes, though the kitchen seems to run out of food often.
M. D.
Ordered calamari and chips because the gas was broken in the kitchen. The cost was £10.95, they gave me my food with a plate of chips and 6 pieces calamari complained sent it back and got another 4 pieces. Considering chips are £3 I feel like I got ripped off. Calamari ain't that expensive!
D. D.
Fantastic pub with real ale and food. All payments by card which is better for me, its not good carrying too much cash these days.
R. L.
Great beer garden. Good food and friendly staff. Decent pub!
d.
Absolutely delightful. Sunday roast was fantastic and at a very reasonable price. 100% recommended
P. O.

Lovely family friendly pub with delicious food and good play area. Very nice staff and good wine list.

Even in these testing times for the hospitality industry The Brownswood delivered on everything we needed. We won't hesitate to return again.
R. S.
The Brownswood is a local gem, great staff, fantastic beer selection, a big beer garden and good vibes all round. Happy to have it as my local!
T. S.
One of the best Sunday roast in north London. But don't Shows football !!! If they do can get a good atmosphere.
R. A.
Great pub with a lovely atmosphere. A good selection of food and drink. Only downside is the lack of more guest ales
M. F.
Nice craft beers, cool atmosphere and the Sunday Roast is delicious for a very good price! Will be coming back for sure!
K. T.
Cute pub with a nice atmosphere. Lovely garden too. Chips are good
E. B.
I highly recommend this pub , firstly the guys that kindly looked after us with a smile and even a laugh which is far and few between these days and the food was just as nice as the staff ,, best roast we've had in a while , we wil make this our local when in London ,, cheers guys good work
P. P.
Big beer garden and a very nice selection of beers and ales. Food wise I only had the chunky chips so far, which were good.
G. G.
Fabulous Sunday Roast, very reasonable price, lashings of gravy and large Yorkshire puds.
Be sure to make a reservation, and order at the bar.
J. R.
German sausage platter as sharing dish, good ales & dog friendly. Usually plenty of room upstairs too.
B.
Tasty chicken ham and leek pie. The spinach had too much ground pepper in it but the rest was amazing. Neat bar too.
R. A. M.
Great local pub, friendly staff, many different beers to try! Lovely outside space too
G. G.
Great basic local pub, good food, quiz night is fun, sausage platter is good. Gets the climbing crowd from the local climbing center
P. J. Z. B.
Food & drink 10 / 10 service was ok but not amazing due to the fact that the staff paid more attention to the large groups wich meant me and my partner had to eat separately .... other than that A ok !
z. M.
Live piano playing as I walked in, great atmosphere and furnishings. Drink selection was very good and reasonably priced for London.
K. H.
It's a good local pub, great garden, plenty of space and the food just keeps getting better.
S. K.
Beer here is good, as is the vibe, but the food has really gone downhill over the last couple of years, other than, bizarrely, the chips, which continue to be excellent.
R. K.
Lovely pub with good air-conditioning for the summer and a spacious garden. The clientele is mostly young and attractive.
A. M.
Great staff and friendly service tonight. Feels homely and welcoming. I had the burger and it was so tasty. Good home from home.

E. R.
It is the best pub because I live next door! Haha...
J. T.
Nice pub with beer garden and food. Pub quiz here is great. But one man who works here is quite rude.
C. S. R.
An OK pub usually frequented with a few less health conscious climbers from across the road at the Castle Climbing Centre. Has a large beer garden with heaters but poor beer selection.
A. D.
Great bar with a fab outside space. Worth a visit for the ales and the decor (Bring back the burbon Milk Stout please for the extra star)
M. W.
Nice pub with a good selection of ales and a decent size beer garden. Food a little on the pricey side.
H. H.
Its an ok pub with good food.
Not too busy and close to the park.
In summer there's and really nice garden out back.
C. S.
It was going so well until they ran out of onion rings! How do you ever run out of onion rings!? However one of the best burgers I've ever had...
J. W.
A solid if unremarkable local. Good if you're in the area but I wouldn't travel far for it. The beer garden is nice in summer though
S. H.
Nice pub with a good beer garden. It's just a real shame they don't serve more local microbrewery beer on tap.
M. P.
Good range of real ale & nice Sunday roast with veggie/ vegan options.

Great pub with a good range of beer and cider. Outside area with much of it covered and some heat lamps.

Good stop off on the way to football. Didn't give out their WiFi code unless you're a guest there though which I found odd.
L. k.
Amazing food, I had chilli beef which were definitely the best I ever had.
impressive presentation and great flavours.
K. S.
Always looked after by staff who are ready with a smile. Fantastic beef burgers. Ask for Sam he a lovely person

Decent boozer... But if you’re not boozing, £3.60 for a pint of soda?!? 🤷🏼♂️😕
B. H.
Standard pub in a good location. Decent beer options and decent prices.
J. B.
Used to be an old man's pub with climbers and great Thai food. Now a pretty generic gastrointestinal pub

D. L.
Plenty of seating, tasty food, reasonable selection of beers and ales on offer.
Y. S. S.
Great atmosphere. More work needs to be done around the food and how the ales are kept (they are sometimes a bit watery).
T. J.
Great pub - really nice food - especially the chicken supreme - delicious!
