Reviews of Wawa Restaurant Ltd
S. H.
A spur of the moment (last minute!) 30th birthday treat. The sushi was fresh, perfectly portioned and so delicious! We did mention off hand that it was my boyfriend's birthday, and we were treated to a tasty chocolate cake with cream on the house. Would 100% recommend, we've been to Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka and the sushi is on par with meals we had in Japan!
O. O.
A nice little place with friendly and attentive staff. I enjoyed my shrimps and it was decent prive. Only flaw, shame the ramen is only miso based. Yet it was good to make me full.
A. F.
Wonderful restaurant and nice staff. Sushi was AMAZING and the lovely people working had great recommendations. The plum wine had actual plums in it, which was really cool (and tasted great as well). LOVE LOVE LOVE this place!

When I want to have Japanese and I’m around London Bridge, Wawa restaurant is my choice. Simple decor, quite atmosphere amazing food. You must try melted salmon, tempura prawn. All the menu is good and staff really friendly.
D. P.
Really nice Japanese food not just sushi. The sake was also really nice not the cheap burning stuff. Really good on a winter's evening. It is not a large place but we where able to get a table at 20:00 on a Thursday
L. A.
Lovely restaurant in vicinity of London Bridge. Decor and atmosphere was nice place for a dinner with drinks. The place was not busy and we were quickly given a table.
We had a tempura and unagi roll, and a salmon set which was tasty. Sashimi was thick cut and fresh. Staff was friendly and checked on us frequently.
The only negative was they made a mistake in our order twice, but was quick to rectify and food came on table timely - probably a new staff. The menu was a white sheet with text, and i wonder if it was a covid-19 reduced menu or not as i found the menu slightly plain. Prices were on the steeper side. May visit again if i crave sushi and am in the area, but would not go specifically.
J. Z.
Not a location with high foot traffic but still a very cool Japanese restaurant with good value for the prices. very relaxed atmosphere with nice staff, great choice if you don’t want to go for the high prices but still want to enjoy a decent japanese dinner evening with friends or family!
J. I.
Been here a few times and it's always brilliant, the service is really friendly and quick. The food is delicious, the beef katsu burger is a must!
A. L.
This is really a 3.5 star review. First time I came was with a bigger group so we had sushi only (the sets) and they were really good. The service was also attentive and the atmosphere is a place where u can have a chat without the need to shout. The second time, just me and another person so we tried only the hot dishes - portions were small (say for the gyoza). The agedashi tofu was fantastic but the sauce was bland. The ramen was on the healthy side when it comes to the miso broth, I almost added soy sauce into it but refrained. The desserts were good but not wow. I’d definitely recommend the green tea ice cream though. We drank warm sake both times. That I also recommend!
P. B.
Amazing sushi! Lovely location and the place is clean and stylishly casual. Perfect for a chill meal whether as a couple or work.
The sashimi is of incredible quality, it melts in your mouth. Melting salmon maki and spicy tuna are also some of the best. Definitely recommend, take away also available.
P. A.
Super delicious sushi - we went for the party set for 2 and it was very generous! Really fresh and the staff were quick, attentive and even threw in some edamame beans for us too which was really kind. Will definitely be coming back
C. W.
Hidden restaurant tucked away from the busy Bermondsey street. The food was delicious and the cocktail was good (we had the lychee mojito). When every other restaurant on Bermondsey street is fully packed, this restaurant was relatively empty. I think it has to do with the hidden location. I was surprised given how good the food and service was. It is a little pricey which is why it’s not a five star in my opinion.

Ramen katsu burgers!!
Epic noodle buns. Katsu burger patty was alright but not outstanding. Excellent service!
It's a nice, casual and airy space just south of the bridge. The service was excellent - courteous, quick, kind and not too in your face. We ordered miso soup to start, ramen katsu burgers as mains and chiffon cakes as dessert. Although they don't have ramen on the paper menu they did have ramen on the board at the place. That said, if you want proper ramen would probably be better off going to a dedicated ramen place for good broth integrity.
Ramen katsu burger only had one option - a beef katsu patty. Which in itself is quite odd as traditional katsu/ panko breaded meats are chicken or pork. I suppose you could have gyukatsu but it wouldn't be in beef burger/ minced meat format. So that was a bit odd. And such a shame too as they did have chicken katsu curry and I think pork as well on the menu (but with rice!). So I think the place would benefit from allowing people to choose what type of katsu they want in their burgers! That said - the ramen buns were sooo good. The sauce and flavourings also worked well. Big fan.
The chiffon cake & milk was quite Japanese that I liked it, but my friends who never lived there didn't enjoy it so much as it was quite dry. Maybe it's an Asian dessert thing.
All in all a good experience and would go again!
M. G.
Excellent food. Definitely the best Japanese restaurant in the area. Sushi is really fresh, and everything here is great. On top of that, great service and friendly people.
A. L.
Pork Ramen on a grey London day was Delicious. Lovely sashimi too.
S. “. G.
Having not been here for sometime; I was not disappointed by the really freshly cooked food and friendly staff!
Great crispy prawn tempura, maki, Gyoza and Chicken Katsu! Be back again!
S. J.
Food was amazing, honestly surprised by the aubergine miso dish with the bed of ramen...and the katsu burger was delish as well! Would definitely come back again to try the rest of the menu since it rotates quite often apparently. Service was okay, would've appreciated if someone had last called us properly since we intended on ordering dessert as well.
The owner was absolutely friendly and accommodating and made amazing recommendations as well.
T. B.
Food was so good. Sashimi was so fresh! Staff are very friendly and accommodating. Will definitely come back again!

UPDATE - I am so happy that this location is still going strong and the quality of the food has not wavered at all.
I strongly recommend their generous portions and excellent sushi rice. A strong base for all of their sushi and carefully selected cuts of fish.
Don't skimp on desert, the cheesecakes are wonderful.
A great little sushi place with exceptional chefs and owners who truly care about what they produce.
This place has gone from strength to strength, constantly updating and innovating their menu whilst offering first class dining comparable to that of places such as sushi samba at a much lower cost and less hassle.
H. L. A.
Ramen wasn't authentic japanese. It was a fusion. Tasted quite good but... Noodles in ramen were not ramen noodles. They were simply spagetti no 7 😂 honestly... Aldente too... It was a weird experience. Chicken gyouza was delicious. Agedashi toufu was OK.
C. L.
Great food and really good service. Prices are reasonable too.
M. G.
Beautiful sushi, excellent service and nice selection of Japanese beers. I will definitely return as the menu looked great and there were other options on there that I would try! You must try the ? breaded crab maki rolls!! Thanks for a great evening!!
One thing I would note was that the wasabi lacked any heat, and if it had a stronger flavour that would make the food extra special. :)
J. B.
Very yummy and reasonably priced. Will come back
L. O.
The food at Wawa has always been great and I have been a regular for the past year. It is by far the best sushi I have had in London, the melting salmon is a particular highlight. The service is always friendly and efficient. I have also tried the chicken katsu, which was equally as good but the sushi remains my go-to choice. Although it is more expensive than some other restaurants, it is well worth the price for good-quality sushi.
F. G.
I had a mio ramen with pork... A bit poor of ingradients, just pork, miso and fresh spinach.
It was OK but expensive for the kind of food
L. D.
I am a regular of this place! I have been going there for dinner for almost a year now, every two weeks on average, and I can't get enough of their food. I am not a huge fan of desserts, but I tried their green tea ice cream and it is one of the best ice cream I have ever had. Being a regular, they offered us the Japanese cheesecake on one occasion on the house and I absolutely loved it! It is not the usual kind of cheese cake, it seemed very fluffy and not too sweet, it was an absolute delight! If you like Japanese food, you absolutely should try this place!
M. A.
Came for a quick dinner, and did not leave disappointed. The ramen wasn't anything to write home about, not the best but certainly flavorful. The pork saved it, which was well seasoned, flavorful, and tender. Come for the sushi-fresh and prepared quite well.
W. A.
Fantastic meal, great choices. Staff are police, friendly and efficient. Lovely calm surroundings.
F. P.
Amazing food and a really good priced. And definitely would recommend the Japanese cheesecake.
L. R.
Excellent local Japanese. Thoroughly recommend. Lovely and welcoming staff, great quality food and a relaxed vibe.
C. G.
I love this place and friends say its the best sushi they have had outside of Tokyo. The quality of the food is a really high standard. I haven't been able to go back to Yo! since discovering what sushi ought to taste like.
S. D.
Our local Sushi restaurant for the last 4 year. Amazingly fresh food and never disappoints. Lovely staff and a great beer selection too!
L. D.
This is my favourite sushi place in London! Definitely try their melting salmon, it is truly amazing! Second favourite is the tempura prawn. And if you are really hungry, try the katsu chicken curry. Reasonably priced considering how great their food is!
R. H.
Been here at least a dozen times, the staff are super friendly and nice. The food is really really good. We often ask for them to surprise us with something different rather than ordering off the menu, always very happy with what they come up with. Highly recommend this restaurant.
C. P.
The sushi are a bit pricey and the lunch menu not for the hungry but overall the food was good, the space is nice, filled with natural light, and there are some interesting things on the menu, including a noodle burger, which I will be likely to try at some point, just because. Good spot for a local lunch during the week.
K. H.
Amazing (&fresh) sushi and fabulous staff!
K. F.
Great service and delicious food ❤️
N. V.
Excellent food, the service very good, tried the aubergine with miso, tempura prawns, unagi roll and a scallop roll. All was delicious! Will go back for sure!
S. X.
Food is nice but a little over priced. Ordered grilled fish the other day and it was served with some sort of homemade yuzu sauce on top and spinach at the bottom. The fish is fresh and perfectly cooked but sauce is a bit too salty. Considering the portion, a little over priced to fill up the tummy!
R. N.
Service was excellent. Staff were welcoming and friendly. Food was decent, we went on a Friday recently and some of the freshness was questionable. The spicy tuna was extremely mushy as we wondered if it had been from frozen.
L.
The salmon teriyaki was delicious, and the service was friendly. I can't comment on how authentic it was, but it was definitely very tasty. Docked two points because a machine in the kitchen was squeaking/squealing quite loudly while we were eating which was rather distracting, and also because there are plenty of places in London to eat the same dish of the same quality at a much lower price. Wawa's food is really good, but is also overpriced.
J. K.
I am on a business trip in London and stumbled on to this restaurant. Price was expensive compared to Vancouver but the food was amazing. I was pleasantly surprised with how good chicken katsu curry was. Gyoza was a miss though. Definately going back before leaving London.
D. B.
Delicious sushi and sashimi. Friendly atmosphere and good service
U. G.
fantastic place with a very charismatic and entertaining owner. the food is exquisite, so is the service. we were lucky, there weren't that many people in, and we had the owner advise us on what to order - great choices, well combined
S. M.
One of my favourite Japanese restaurants in London. Great Japanese staples like Chicken Katsu Curry, Gyoza and Tempura as well as some creative specialities. Can't recommend this place highly enough. Great food, friendly staff, lovely atmosphere.
H. T.
Really fantastic food and service at this great Japanese restaurant. Would recommend the melting salmon roll in particular, it's absolutely delicious, and the tempura is fantastic.
T. H.
Awesome sushi place, the fish is really fresh and the rolls are perfect. Third best (trust me I've tried a lot!) sushi I've had in London (after Takahashi and Roka). Try the tiger roll and sashimi 😀🍣
S. M.
Fancy shared seating Japanese restaurant with a great tasting food. Service with a smile was on point. Extra pleased with the plum wine selection.
L. A.
I am a regular customer as I work nearby. Very underrated restaurant, every dish is great from the chicken katsu to the ramens choices. Desserts are delicious too!
G. F.
They serve really good quality sushi and Asian food. They are slightly off the main strip and still finding their feet but the food is good, which is the main thing. There is even a ramen burger on the menu.
B. H.
I'm no London restaurant expert but I thought the price was reasonable considering what I've been paying elsewhere this week and I enjoyed the food. The staff were very friendly and helpful and happy to advise on the menu.
A. K.
Limited range, relatively expensive (£6 for a small size of spinach? £8 for a simple salmon maki roll?), good quality fish and presentation, warm and astute service, plain and mellow environment.
j. r.
Amazing discovery off the beaten track of towerbridge...
Home cooked and freshly prepared sushi and Ramen.
Dessert was a delicate lightly smokey green tea icecream and a Japanese cheese cake.
Staff lovely.
Come here!
S. V.
Miso soup and sushi were fantastic. Had a nice cup of tea which was great as well. And had a really nice chat with the owner. Would definitely recommend!
L. K.
Our top sushi restaurant in London
Best place I have had sashimi and rolls! Price has gone up since it reopened! But quality and service are top!
D. A.
Excellent service, food was fresh, fairly reasonably priced, and tasted nice, my salmon was a little overcooked for my personal preference but overall it was a good lunch.
V. N.
My wife and I have a wonderful dinner at this Place, food are amazingly good, the sea bass beauty so fresh, the cocktail are wonderful and proper Japanese beer. Highly recommended to everyone.
S. P.
Food was delicious and great value :)
N. S.
Sensationsl Sushi. I thought i knew Japanese cuisine until I ate at Wawa and realised I knew little about it until that experience. Truly exquisite Japaness cuisine served by knowledge and loving staff. Highly recommend
D. H.
Food was great but expensive for what it is. The servers was polite but forgetful. Items from our order had been forgotten when our food arrived and we had to repeatedly ask for water.
T. P.
By far the best Japanese restaurant in the London Bridge area. The food is fresh and delicious, and the service is impeccable. We are certainly to become regulars.
D. W.
Lovely food, delicious flavours and very helpful staff assisting your selection. All freshly cooked. Just a wee bit expensive but worth it.
J. G.
Burger tasted a bit boring and felt more boiled than fried and the place has a cold atmosphere. Service was nice though and the good overall ok.
T. a. A.
Great for lunch - fast, authentic, good value and tasty. Maybe would have preferred more pickles because they were so tasty.
V. S.

Entered the premises with high expectations after studying their menu.
I ordered a Katsu burger with wasabi and mayo.
Not very pleased with the taste of the burger, abit deep fried and lost of katsu in the middle. It was ok but not defined as I expected.
Flavours where abit compromised with the sogginess of the bread bun which collapsed on pieces once I started eating.
Was expecting more wasabi and more of asian style but was given a mixed leaf salad with vinagrette instead of blasting me with Asian flavours.
I am still interested to come again as the menu seems intriguing. Great location and staff are very promising in terms of making a difference while you are inside, thanks for that.

(Translated) It’s the same taste I missed
The chicken cutlet rice in the gyoza has water as standard, so I liked it so much, and it's ice water with a sense. And it was nice that you prepared a hand sanitizer too. The staff were very friendly. I went there around 8:00 in the evening, but there weren't many customers.

(Translated) Very pleasant surprise, good food and pleasant staff. Typical dishes and others a little less such as the hamburger revisits. Good value for money even if I personally found it a bit expensive. Fast and hassle-free service. Whether it was the hamburger, the sushi or the kebabs it was a taste pleasure.

Bon rapport qualité prix même si personnellement je l'ai trouvé un poils chère. Service rapide et sans encombre. Que ce soit le hamburger les sushi ou les brochettes ce fut un plaisir gustatif.
