Let me start off by saying, Chris at Oxford Mortgages WILL secure the mortgage for you, but you won't get the attention you wish to receive. You see, most people will do a google search and find his google reviews 5/5 and contact him. This is what I did, but what you don’t realise is how busy he is. He won't say "No" and you will be in the mortgage process. Everything kicks off fast and you’re providing all the details as requested to Chris. Then reality sets in. Chris is a one man band, his time is limited and my case, he didn’t have the time to focus 100% as I expected. It left me stressed and frustrated as I was the one constantly chasing him for updates. He doesn’t like being chased and you'll get his "he is on the case, and he can’t work on it if I am chasing". It's quite an arduous process for your mind as I only chased after a week or so and all this time, you are wondering what is happening. Now, I can understand his side, he has several cases going on at the same time and depending on whose mortgage is the biggest, his focus and priority is aligned to that one as the bigger the mortgage, the more cut he earns from the mortgage provider. Being a first time mortgage buyer, you do feel the lack of attention though, you do everything on your part quickly as soon as he makes a request - securing documents fast but to see him work on them at his pace. There isn’t a process check list either, so you do feel lost over what the next steps are and what the current stage is. I guess anyone with an existing mortgage will know but first time buyers don't. Everything is done over the phone and emails, never had to meet him. I even got the worst end as during the middle of my mortgage application, Chris had his trips abroad and his holidays. During this time, expect a full stop as no one else is there to take his calls or proceed on the case. It's even more frustrating as mortgage providers might've offered you the mortgage and replied requesting more information..but you'll never know as their communication is with Chris and everything goes through him..so you'll have to wait. But will the mortgage be secured though? Yes, it will be and it isn’t free as you think either, as there are ofcourse costs to pay at the end. My advice is this, if you are a new to the housing market and want a stress free smooth process, then I would shop around more before committing. You do feel trapped half way through the process, as you can’t leave due to credit checks already happened and you don’t want to start the process again with someone else and have it affect your credit score, which also leads to more time being spent I read all the positive reviews here and jumped onboard with Chris, but in my case it was an extremely draining and a stressful experience. All the chasing, waiting and lack of attention wasn’t the experience I wanted for my mortgage application. I wanted a smooth process as it’s a lot of money and one of life’s important life choices. Pros - He’ll secure the mortgage - Does answer calls - Is knowledgeable in his field - Does explain things clear Cons - Only works at his pace, things will be extremely slow - No process or checklists in place - One man band so you work to his schedule - Your priority depends on how you stand against his other mortgage applicants - Stressful and draining for first time mortgage seekers - Doesn’t like being chased Wish you all the best and as noted in the beginning, Chris can secure the mortgage for you, it's how you want to go down this journey you need to consider. This has been my experience.
