James was extremely professional and helpful. I wanted a 21st birthday present for my cousin. He went over and above to help me decide what would work for her and finally we settled on her name in gold on a gold chain. He shipped the necklace to her immediately it was made. It arrived in a lovely gift wrapped box. All this happened through lockdown which meant his customer service and support was even more critical to me as I was unable to see the necklace before I purchased it. It's important to help maintain our local specialist shops especially following the large amount of closures we are seeing on the high street. His website is very well managed and very informative, this gave me a lot of comfort that I was dealing with a person who was knowable about jewellery and had good jewelers working for hm. This all made the transaction feel safer without seeing him or the item before I paid for it.

Twas a pure pleasure to walk into this understated but exceptionally friendly jewellers in order to ask for a bangle to be resized and for the clasp to be tightened. 'Not a problem" said James and within a couple of minutes had resolved both issues. When I asked about the price, he simply said 'Don't worry, we just hope to see you soon.' And soon he will. This type of customer service is so rare these days and yet so greatly appreciated. A jeweller and man to be highly recommended. My wife has also been into this jewellers for insurance valuations and James has always, to a tee, been professional, kind and genuine. I can only apologise that it has taken me a couple of months to write this review. Now, more than ever, independent businesses, and good ones, deserve our support.

I came across James Ross‘s website whilst researching a vintage omega of my late brother. I was aware of his shop in Portslade though had never had a reason to call in. Finally an opportunity. I called in for advice and a valuation and was immediately aware of the warm relationship James has with his customers. He had another customer with him at the time and suggested I leave it with him for 30 mins to have a look inside and check details. When I returned James gave me a thorough assessment of the watch condition and honest valuation of likely dealer and ‘shop window’ prices. He also pointed me at a specialist website for more specific analysis and noted all serial numbers plus advice on how he would service it sympathetically to retain its integrity. All in all it was a great experience. You feel like you are being welcomed into a community that obviously holds James in high esteem. I look forward to having reason to visit again.

I have used James Ross Jewellers for the engraving of football trophies and for the odd watch replacement battery. I went in Saturday to have a watch bracelet repaired and was going to leave it there and collect the following Saturday as I needed it repaired for my forthcoming holiday. James said he would do it there and then and when I asked how much he said it would be free of charge. These days with business being tough it is unusual for an owner of a specialist shop to do something for nothing. I was so happy and what a great chap James is. James Ross has superior knowledge of any other watch store in Sussex. I have a very unusual Rolex watch that I wanted a link added too because it didn’t fit well on my wrist. I had been to multiple jewellers (even the local Rolex AD) and all were unable to help me. Many jewellers even suggest that the strap was aftermarket because they had never come across it before. (It’s definitely not as had been serviced from Rolex not that long ago) James Ross recognised it straight away and knew exactly the model and in a matter of minutes had it sitting on my wrist perfectly. We had been looking for a gold strap for my wife’s gold watch to replace the leather it came with, for a long time. All along the solution had been just down the road! James suggested adapting a strap that was destined for scrap ( this was after confirming new ones were no longer available unless already attached to a watch). He has produced a thing of beauty. Skilfully aligning the arms of the case with the links of the old scrap chain making the piece not only look stunning but a brand new classic. I was very interested to read the review by Edward Shearer as I have known and done business with James Ross for several years and found him to be nothing less than polite, knowledgeable, helpful and overall a great guy to do business with. I have also been aware of several other customers of his who have all said the same thing, strange then that one person should be disgruntled enough to take time out to write a fairly damning review? What a shame. James has resized rings on several occasions for various members of my family and friends not to mention creating a bespoke ring for my daughter's 21st. I've been James Ross for a couple of years now. Simple things like battery replacements. More complicated things like repairs of jewelry and he purchased a non-functioning vintage ladies Omega that a family member had had in a drawer for 30 years. Other jewellers offered a pittance, but James has the skill to repair and the watch collectors who would be interested, so he was able to offer markedly more for it. I'm on the hunt for a vintage watch of my own and it'll almost certainly be James Ross that supplies it.

Excellent service!!! I sent my vintage Breitling Pluton back to Breitling, they said that they could not fix it as they no longer stocked the parts. So I took it into James who carefully cleaned it and got it working again in about a week, with no parts needed!
