Amazing! Managed to hand craft this absolute stunner. Was transperent with his work and kept me in the loop every step of the way. My (now) fiancée is in love with it! I gave some steer as to what I liked but the ring came out better than my wildest dreams. Can't recommend highly enough if you want to get something just that little bit more special than what's on the shelf.

Johnny repaired my engagement ring and I am absolutely delighted with the result. He explained everything he was proposing to do and completed the work in one week. The price was very fair. He resized my husband's ring after he lost weight and has a really personal touch to his service. I found John through a local search engine and wanted to support a small local business. I showed him an inexpertly (by me) drawn picture of what I wanted - heavy, oval, silver bangle - and he made it, no fuss and I love it. I loved it so much that I then asked him to make me a ring in exactly the same style and he did - I love that too. Both are incredibly simple designs but they look great because of their simplicity. John's Geordie charm, no-nonsense approach and expert craftsmanship mean that not only will I return to his studio when I want something else made, but I've been telling all my friends about him too. Nice guy, talented jeweller, what more could you want?

My wife had inherited her mother's rings and took them to Johnny to re-design. The results were beautiful. One ring was carefully designed to hold four diamonds on three white and rose gold bands. The middle rose band stopped the diamonds from twisting round and the settings were not only beautiful, but also without sharp edges so that clothes did not snag. Stunning. A second ring was created out of a Russian wedding ring and a diamond and ruby engagement ring. The original setting for the rubies made them look like very pale amethysts. Once Johnny had finished the colour of the rubies appeared to have changed to a deep rich red and the ring had lots of movement - depending on how you put the ring on the combination of the diamond and two rubies changed their relationships. Again, smooth surfaces and very comfortable. My wife is now planning to take more rings back to Johnny for re-design.

I’d put my old ruby ring in to be repaired as the stone had fallen out. I was given a very reasonable quote to have it repaired as the claws needed replacing. I was absolutely amazed when I collected it. Not only did I have New strong claws holding the stone in, but my ring looked like it did when it was new. It had all been cleaned and it looked fabulous. I couldn’t recommend enough..fab service and professional job at a great price. I was even given advice and a free bottle of cleaner for future use.

Looking for something for my wife for our ten year anniversary, I stumbled on JMD after wondering around Newcastle looking for jewelers. After much discussion I ended up asking him to make an eternity ring. I was a little worried as everything to that point had been a bit informal (a few sketches in a notebook, examples from catalogs, etc) but I needn't have worried as the ring was exquisite and my wife was thrilled with it. I'm not one for jewelry but this really was beautiful, I've seen nothing in the high street chains that comes close to it for the money and I have the satisfaction that it is a complete one off. If I ever need a jeweler for anything in future Johnny will be my first port of call.

A number of years ago we chose John Martin Douglas to design and makes my wife's wedding set ,(wedding, engagement and eternity ring) we were blown away by the quality and professionalism, since then he has done alterations and added diamonds, we cannot recommend this man highly enough and would not go anywhere else for bespoke jewellery and at a budget to suit everyone.
