I took my mother’s engagement ring into the shop recently for the setting to be modified. Mr Gowring and staff were so helpful and reassuring. Within two weeks I collected my ring and they had done an fantastic job, and the ring looks amazing. I couldn’t be more delighted with the result, service and cost. I have often walked by this little gem of a shop, but never entered. However, the need to get some advice and subsequent work done on some family watches and jewellery took me through the door. At once, I was greeted with courtesy and respect, and when I explained the legacy of old watches that we had come across, there was so much understanding and compassion shown by ALL the staff. Never have I been made to feel that I was being pushed down a particular route, and the services offered and delivered have been second-to-none. Even to the extent that an old Longines watch had three attempts to find a workshop that could carry out the required work, such is the dedication to service. All in all, I cannot fault this first class jewellery business: quality in everything that they have done. It is without reservation that I thoroughly recommend them.

Went shopping for an eternity ring. Having been studiously ignored as we waited for assistance in a high street jeweller, we left and went to John Gowing. We were met with a bright 'Good morning'. We were torn between a ring here and one in another independent shop. We returned for a second look and they told us to take a photo so we could compare. Despite not making a purchase they were just lovely. We were so impressed and so guilty that we didn't choose theirs that we will return when more jewellery is needed. Shouldn't be long! Good old fashioned service is alive and kicking in this shop.

Visited the shop with my partner today. The service was exemplary and all the staff were friendly and efficient, even remembering the last time we visited! For a small shop they have a large selection of watches and jewellery, and both my partner and I were very pleased with our purchases. Definitely a 5 star experience and worth a visit.

I have always dealt directly with Cartier to have my watch serviced or have the battery replaced. However, having recently read some worrying comments about the actual service being provided for a sizeable sum, I researched local jewellers. I am so happy that I did. John Gowing's is that rare treasure of an 'old-school' jeweller with an experienced professional on-site. For half the price, I had my battery replaced within a couple of hours as opposed to the several weeks quoted by Cartier. I also benefited from an informative conversation with Mr. Gowing (a true professional) regarding how often quartz watches actually need servicing. The staff in the jewellers were simply lovely. I also entrusted them with a repair on a chain very precious to me and had that returned with equal speed. I cannot recommend them more highly.

I would highly recommend John Gowing Jewellers, having entrusted the repair of a precious family heirloom signet ring, from my grandfather, which I had managed to catch and bend completely out of shape. Asking for a more substantial band to replace an inferior repair carried out previously elsewhere, I entrusted the repair to John Gowing Jewellers with a result far exceeding my expectations, both with a perfectly proportioned new thicker band, and the whole thing polished to perfection, as if it was brand new, despite the head being over a 100 years old, with a perfect match of gold colour between original head, and new band. It will proudly sit on my finger, until the time comes for it to be passed down to my son.

I've used these jewellers many times over the years for watch batteries, straps etc. and always had a great service. Recently went in there to buy an engagement ring (she said yes!!) and thought I really must leave a review.. Fantastic service from start to finish, helping to talk me through loads of options all well within my budget, and I eventually settled on a bespoke one exactly as I'd imagined. The inevitable re-sizing needed was prompt and handled very smoothly. I would thoroughly recommend them to anyone looking for a top quality and very reasonable service, thank you!!
