Lovely morning at Captain Ted's, great play area with trampoline, soft play, slides.
Member of staff today was extremely friendly, lovely little session with musical instruments and a sing along. Coffee was great. 😃

It’s with a very heavy heart that I am writing this review.
Let me start by saying I have been a very happy customer of Captain Ted’s for 7 years (from when it was in the shopping centre) and had my eldest child’s 1st birthday party there also. As a frequent soft play attendee with my 3 children this is by far one of our favourite places to go, lovely venue, suitable for all my children’s ages and a decent cup of coffee.
However, I recently had my sons 3rd birthday party there as a non-exclusive party which I had booked and paid the deposit for when the stated price was at £9 per child for a 1.5 hour party (plus 15 mins for arrival and departure totalling 1 hour 45 mins). Now the first issue was when it came to paying the final balance, the numbers needed to be amended, increasing by 5. When I tried to amend this via email, along with an email regarding dietary requirements and a list of names (as requested on booking) I got no reply, but did receive another reminder for final payment. When this was finally rectified after going into the soft play itself I was given an invoice for £10 per child, not the agreed £9. I was then made to feel like a favour was being done by the manager for changing the balance and she would pay the difference.
On the day of the party there was very little contact with staff apart from what came across as a continuous reminder of when we needed to leave by. At the time of singing happy birthday i was told I had to I had to gather the children to sing happy birthday (along with again being reminded when to leave by) and then when the time did come he was wedged between two chairs.
We then went straight in to have party food which as always with Teds was a lovely prepared sandwich and a variety of snacks, however there was little organisation as to who’s was who’s food and myself and another parent were left filling juices. Iced lollies we’re brought out 10 minutes into the 45 minutes the children were given for party food, again being told after these had been eaten to put the children’s shoes on as another party was booked afterwards.
As 45 minutes out of a 1.5 hour party is a very long time for excited children to sit and eat naturally they did end up filtering back into the soft play in drips and drabs. At 12:30 again I was reminded that children needed their shoes on and to leave as soon as they had finished eating- baring in mind the party was booked till 1pm, granted with time to depart. I was then given the task of notifying all parents of this and being made to feel incredibly uncomfortable, as well as it being noted by guests parents that they had overheard this and also felt the same.
I write this review as a previous soft play party host and have a few suggestions for a smoother running party experience:
- have a designated party host who will make announcements for children to attend certain areas, such as birthday singing, time for shoes to be out on as the party is now ending.
- having said party host keep checking on the party room to make sure drinks are filled initially and then afterwards that juice jugs maintain topped up.
- potentially rethink timing structure to have it more soft play heavy than food.
- have party bags situated at the front of house so that when the party children are leaving, they can be handed a party bag.
- finally, ask the party parents upon departure was everything ok and thank them for coming.
Small changes that I know don’t take much to put into place but make a huge difference to the smooth running and enjoyable experience of a birthday party.
Again, it’s with a heavy heart I leave this review as I do rate captain Teds highly as a soft play but sadly do not think I will be rebooking a party.

Fantastic soft play. Not too big or too small. The best bit for adults is they make a very good cup of coffee. Very friendly and helpful staff.

Excellent soft play as good as ever! We have been regular visitors since before it was relocated from over the road. Staff very friendly and helpful and food has definitely if anything got better than previously. All in all a friendly atmosphere with a relaxed atmosphere and good variety of play equipment, internet and decent coffees for parents and very reasonably priced food for youngsters. It's why after 3 years we are still regular visitors and can only see us continuing to come till my son grows too old for soft plays! Keep up the good work!

Drinks and snacks available

This is our favourite soft play. Just the right size so you can keep an eye on your children without having to run around yourself. Not too hot, loud, bright or busy. We love it.

Children had lots of fun. Could do with stocking a better choice of food for those with allergies.

We love it here, it’s been a God send post lockdown. Big enough for my little one to have lots of fun, but small enough where I can keep an eye on him while I have a coffee 🙏🏻

Good to visit. Even tho a bit small the kids like it. They are a bit harsh if they catch you eating your own food. Some of the staff seem a bit miserable. But hey, they are working with kids all day. 4 stars

Kids seemed to be loving the party and would have been 5 star but it was Cold inside although not when we first went in. They obviously turn the heating off before they close. Turn the heating on.. :)

Soft play area is as good as any, clean and safe with an excellent location. However, don't order the so called 'substantial' salad! What I actually got was a tiny sprinkle of pre-packed salad leaves, half a tomato cut into quarters, half a teaspoon of coleslaw and one inch of the end of a panini stick.

Great cozy little place for parental supervised soft play. Capacity for about 75 kids aged 18 months to 12 years.

We love Captain Ted's and our Granddaughter keeps asking to go. We were regulars but since it now closes at 3.00 pm we no longer come as paying £8 for 2 little ones for only an hour is not good value. We can't get there any earlier. We are all so disappointed!!

A very well organised place for little children to play. Varied equipment for the children - climbing frame and slides.
