Reviews of Markham Grange Garden Centre
D. C.
Visited midweek so missed the Xmas Market but still a lovely centre to visit. The cafe serves a lovely jam cream scone, toilet facilities outside the centre.
B. A.
The Markham Grange Garden Centre is amazing because My Mum and Dad went there back in 2017 because this Garden Centre is so amazing and a bit fun and they sell plants, garden equipment and more and there is a cafe and a bathroom facility outside the centre. My Mum and Dad had a nice time at Markham Grange Garden Centre.
R. T.
Not been for years. Nearly spent the day here. Fantastic array of indoor and outdoor plants, shrubs and trees. Wonderful selection of unusual gifts and toys and a small craft cabin. There's a ladies boutique, menswear, rug shop and nice resteraunt. Disabled access seemed good. The only downside to the place is you have to leave the building to use toilets as they're in an are outside block. But chatting to one of the many friendly staff we were told indoor toilets were being built. Great place to visit.
A.
Lovely place and good prices.
Variety of plants, trees and flowers is huge. Plus pet center, everything in 1 place.
J. A. H.
Great garden centre with plenty of variety at good prices. It is also full of stuff associated with gardens/ homes that can make it more of a quite expensive shopping experience. Good choice of foods available. Steam museum on site that is worth a visit too. Sat nav might be useful to find garden centre if you have not been before. We call in if in the area only
M. W.
Staff very helpful. Plenty of plants for sale and in good condition. Could not resist a coffee, scone and massive walnut cake. Reasonable price and tasty. Served with a smile from staff. Will go again.
J. T.
This is a fabulous garden centre. There are so many beautiful plants, it's like a sweetie shop for plant lovers credit to the gardens that maintain them all. Markham Grange garden centre deserves a best garden centre award, you 😀
a.
Wow! What a fantastic selection of plants! Went to have a look around and try to find some inspiration for the garden and we definitely found that. Didn't manage to look inside the shop area much or go to the cafe so am not able to offer any comment on that aspect. But I'd definitely recommend this centre
A. W.
A lot of hard work has obviously done to get the garden centre looking as it does today, creditnto the workers. Lots of different shops/areas if a little mismatched. Had a coffee n cake from cafe, coffee was weak, cake dry. It was very busy so people must be happy with it but we won't be eating there again any time soon
M. S.
Great place to go and spend some time. Plenty off choice for indoor and outdoor plants, trees, shrubs little shops and a great cafe with very friendly staff, and all fairlyaffordable. I go just for lunch sometimes. Very highly recommended.
D. P.
This is a great garden centre to pop into when travelling on the A1. Just drop off the motorway for 5mins, and you have everything you want. A cafe with quality food and good portions, other shops with alsorts of stuff. And a well stocked garden centre with reasonable prices. Who knew this was here.
A. S.
Stopped here on our way to Blackpool for a family holiday . Had lunch in the cafe which was very tasty and thoroughly enjoyed especially the black pudding sausage roll which isnt something we have come across down south although we all like a bit of black pudding. . We enjoyed our visit so much we called in for lunch on our way back and also bought some nice things.
m.
Great place to visit, wish great variety of goods
L. S.
Good garden centre, though today we had to return our clotted cream staff happily changed it but we found our cherry scones dry and baked aittke too much ?so had to leave most.
J. W.
Very good, very competitively priced garden centre with a great range of outdoor aswell as indoor plants trees scrubs and pots, will definitely be going back 👍
D. W.
This Garden centre has come a long way, in every area of retail from plants, to seasonal products, the cafe is well priced and serving a great menu, even fresh vegetables for sale, this garden centre has it all, credit to the management team for turning this garden centre around,, even modern bathroom facilities, much improved from the old WC block in the carpark.
A. M.
Great range of products in quite a large area. Nicely decorated for christmas and even has it's own dinosaur guarding the garden centre. Decent cafe that does a lovely cup of tea.
H. H.
Well worth a visit
Plants are really lovely and healthy
They have done a lot of upgrading the shop area too
With lots of choice
Just a little expensive
The cafe was very busy
Which is a good sign
Even though we didn't go in it
Yes worth a visit
D. H.
I actually by chance asked a guy for directions he happend to be a traditional sweet shop keeper. I had a quick walk around prices looks reasonable on the garden products. But Stricktly sweets is worth the visit alone. 10/10
K. C.
Wouldn't recommend hot drinks from the main cafe. However if Audrey's van is open I would 100% recommend those hot drinks.
R. A.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I visit Markham Grange quite frequently with my family and we all absolutely love it. There are some really great things to see and the on site café is exceptionally tasty

Lovely garden centre, friendly staff, great cafe, lots of unusual items to spruce up any outside space. I've also had the pleasure of having a stall for this years' Christmas markets. It was a lovely atmosphere with plenty of visitors. Looking forward to standing again on 18th/19th December. Thank you Markham Grange 😃👍
R. D. M. (.
Fantastic now they have updated there stock and design of the store area, you will be spoilt for choice of plants, in every colour and size your ever going to want. The prices are a little dear I personally think but that is me, not everyone may agree of course, so don't let that put you of a visit, just make sure leave yourselves plenty of time for a wander around and bring your cheque book you'll need it because, you will go crazy with choices and gardening accessories available now. Well done for making this a one stop shop for everything gardening you'll ever need.
D. G.
Usually good. Have been to the cafe a couple of times and it’s a nice setting.
Haven’t had a scone before ( my usual treat when I go to a cafe) as the sultana ones always look burnt. Daughter got me one today!!!!
Wish she hadn’t. It was way too dry and crumbly. I could hardly spread my soft butter! The darkness meant it was baked far too long! I did go and explain my disappointment. Left some:(
S.
I'd never been here before so I was surprised as it's quite large. The layout makes it difficult to get to exactly what you are looking for as there are no signs, so you end up wandering around.. great if you don't know what you want or are looking for inspiration, otherwise just ask someone to point you in the right direction as the staff are very helpful 🙂
D.
I was really impressed with the visit there it's nearer to where I live, and decided on the way back to have a look. There was so much to look at I said I wouldn't get anything but yet again I bought a pear tree, blueberry plants and sage, and Rosemary plus compost, they are about the same prices of other nurseries but quicker to get there. The staff were very busy unloading boxes, but only one checkout was open, they really needed another. I asked about a particular plant and was told she'd not heard of it so that's not the best.
I will visit again when I need a few more plants.
R. R.
So many plants! A lot to choose from. Plants, garden decorations plants treatment products.. Etc
J. H.
Really trying with this place, Sunday lunch looked very nice. Singer playing guitar, while we enjoyed coffee and scones. Lovely plants, and accessories.
J. C.
My first visit and I was really impressed. Much more than a garden centre, which in itself is vast. A super cafe, a rug/ carpet shop, Trespass clothing store, a beautiful ladies clothing shop with lovely, friendly staff, a great selection of jams, pickles, preserves, unusual gifts and so much more.
C. C.
The garden centre and restaurant have been vastly improved. There are many different types of plants with clear details about the plant clearly displayed. There are also a big indoor section with lots of gift ideas. Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to explore as its huge now. Well worth a visit.
S.
Our favourite garden centre. Brilliant cafe, excellent range of healthy plants and when I needed advice it was easy to find someone willing to help
A. C.
Review for cafe: There was no chef so they only had scones and ice cream which was a shame. It seemed quite chaotic - not many customers there, several staff but they didn't seem to be serving. They may have worked in the garden centre rather than the cafe though.
M. R.
It's a nice walk around was dissapointed in carvery but wasn't the time before so might b hit and miss like most food places, but for a garden centre it's a nice one
A. B.
Good center, not so good cafe. Staff were rude and whenbthey brought food they didn't bring utensils. When ask young lad said they are at the till get them yourself
N. G.
Fantastic range of everything. Cafe is fab place, menu could do with a little tlc. Live music which is a bonus. Little shops. Craft markets at times. Great place to shop.
R. C.
Nice garden centre. Some things are a little expensive but worth a visit to see what's new and what's on offer.
T. W.
Was lovely lots to look at and buy. They had a Lovely Christmas market and i even got to feed the donkeys too. With a little help from a lovely elf.
j. h.
Brilliant garden centre.. Prices very low too. Lots of variety as well..
So love coming here.. Coffee shop excellent.. Can't wait to go back....
K.
Had breakfast which was reasonably priced and was very nice. Lovely staff. In the garden centre there was an huge selection of plants and trees. We'll worth a visit and will definitely be back
A. C.
Plenty of good plants and everything you Need for your garden ,but can be a bit pricey some good little shops inside as well with a good variety of goods and the cafe is nice
S. S.
Great little pet shop with bearded dragons, gecko's, snakes, frogs etc. Can buy anything you need to set up your pet. Helpful staff too.
L. V.
This is possibly the largest garden centre I've been to.
Such a large variety of healthy looking plants and really reasonable prices. Looking forward to my next visit.
A. W.
A lovely garden centre with a good variety of products and plants
also home to a lovely cafe
D. K.
Great place plants has u walk in then if u want u can look at all the other stuff they sell from pets to wool but a great selection of plants
K. B.
Compared to other big garden centres it needs modernization so is turning into a pensioner paradise. Plenty of stock and variations but slightly on the expensive side.
Went into the café and had hot drinks and cake which was a big mistake, as it was like drinking coloured water and the cakes nearly turned to dust after biting into them. If you want the toilet while in the café, it's outside in the carpark?
Staff are friendly apart from the tills where they look miserable.
So all down to poor management and it's not going to attract new or younger customers.
T. P.
Really interesting garden centre. Well laid out. Good stock. Not cheap but good.
K. D.
A great garden centre, massive range of plants.
Spoilt by cafe staff who ignored us and were busy taking photos of each other.
B. W.
Great garden centre. Pretty huge with everything you could want. They had a great Bonsai show / trade event on today. My wife thinks its the best garden centre she has ever been to.
E. S.
Vast array of plants and gifts. Excellent Cafe/Restaurant. Well worth a visit.
T. K.
Nice but very expensive and food not very good for the price
P. M.
Lovely time wandering around the centre, bought a few plants and shears - not used yet.
They are busy making changes in the shop, also doing renovation work. Not too busy to deal with the needs of customers.
Will be back.
D. B.
Friendly staff. So much to look at. Outdoor plants, indoor plants, plant pots, garden furniture, Clothes, Pet shop. Well worth a visit with a lovely cafe food is beautiful and the Cappuccinos are lush I always have 2 .
T. J.
Nice staff, easily accessed, plenty of parking, there's access to food, relaxed atmosphere and good prices. For such a large place there is a real community feel rather than corporate which really like. A lot of the space is outdoors so be aware of that and toilets are in the car park rather than the garden centre itself
R. K.
Great place to visit ..massive inside probably best garden center I've been to in ages ..
L. G.
Brilliant place. Has everything you could want fir gardens animals steam trains beautiful little cafe with live singer. Comfortable relaxed place to visit. Staff are lovely people friendly helpful. 😊
L. B.
This garden centre's really come on in leaps and bounds over the last year. They've been doing a lot of alterations inside and out. It's well laid out and they've got loads of choice of plants to choose from a really good mix of quality well looked after plants. Yes their more expensive than they used to be, but you have to weigh up the quantity of plants they have now and all improvements being made the prices were bound to go up. Loads of choice of bedding plants and beautiful hanging basket arrangements. Everything you could need with pots and there's a good choice of water features too. The inside of the centre filled with house plants, great selection, bird feeding section, garden lights, furniture ornaments. A gift and card section with a lovely choice and they've made improvements on the cafe, the inside of the cafe is still way too dark though. There's still ongoing work and things to change to make it spot on, like better toilets for starters but they've made a great start and obviously listen to their customers because their was complaints about the bad markings in the carpark and when we went today they'd all been remarked which was great. Definitely worth a visit now, one of the best garden centre's in this area now.
g. b.
Enjoyed the garden center bought some lovely hanging baskets at a good price will recommend
W. W.
Very good garden centre....with gift section and lovely cafe.
R. B. P.
Great garden centre with a huge selection including indoor and bonsai plants, plus the gardeners know their stuff and are very helpful. The cafe was awful*, but I was so happy with the plants that I'm only knocking one star off.
*Everything came out of a packet, they wouldn't make a sandwich without butter for my lactose intolerant Mum, they forgot my order entirely, and there are no vegan options at all. The coffee was pretty good.
V. M.
Proper changed.. well done... its an up and coming garden centre.. with lots more to come watch this space...
Enjoy 😘
e. b.
Great place and great prices , fabulous plants well worth a visit
B. M.

I attended with my daughter and visited Santa 🎅. It was a truly magical experience. Santa sang as my daughter went very shy.
The staff are always lovely and always available to help. The coffee shop is lovely and the food is yummy. Worth a visit.
J. S.
Been going years enjoy taking kids to see the reptiles and fish

D. N.
Excellent plants..extensive gift shops.
G. S.
They have a wide range of item mainly related to gardening but more besides.we got what we went for so that was a result.
a. m.
Lovely place very reasonable prices friendly and very helpful staff and free entry into the steam museum check for opening for museum
D. B.
Lovely staff but not easy to find off the A1. Very hot inside.
L. B.
Not been here for years but got some lovely plants and theres some nice shops in there as well
A. B.
We stopped off here for a break while traveling home from Yorkshire as it was about half way. It is 4 minutes off the A1M so really handy. The cafe here is very good with tasty food and giant homemade scones. Unfortunately we were limited in what we could try as they could only accept cash on the day we were there and we didn't have a lot on us. The garden centre is huge. There is a well-equipped pet store on site as well. There is also a steam museum on site but this was not open when we visited.
G. C.
Very large selection of plants and a very good eating area . Good selection of all outdoor needs in the indoor area.
O. A.
Plenty of room to look around. They prices have gone up a lot on hanging baskets and some flowers what was 20 pounds last year are now 29.99 pounds very pricey but the staff are very friendly and helpful when it comes to potting up your plants .
B. R.
Absolutely amazing time in the garden centre stunning plant's lots of different varieties.Gift shop has many spectacular gift ideas . Fantastic boutique too .
Then to end our day had amazing meal at the café food was delicious staff were very friendly happy smiling faces

One of the best garden centres I have been to! Very large with lots of shops, plants well cared for, large pet centre and the restaurant is lovely, tables surrounded by beautiful plants and flowers. Well worth a visit.
J. M.
Lovely garden centre and pet store. But the cafe isnt too good. Had a sausage butty and it was awful. Cheap sausage and margarine. And coffee was not good. The tea had no colour and tasteless.
G. B.
Lovely garden centre and loads of plants for the garden. And good prices on there garden furniture I think.
L. G.
Enjoyed our visit much improved, loved new goods and layout. Lots of choice. Healthy looking plants.
Very good coffee and scones, just sorry they've stopped doing large coffees.
A. B.
Not keen on coffee but I'm fussy ,nice plants etc
M. A.
Bit of everything at this garden centre.Reasonable prices ,good food fair price.
Plenty of parking.
No dogs I'm afraid. 😢
P. S.
I specifically went to have my Tarot cards read - a good, calm experience and because its pagan new year Amanda gave a 12 month reading - all sounds very good. Now I wait and see what transpires.
The nursery had 20%off everything so it seemed the ideal time to buy myself my Christmas gift- great bargains to be had across the nursery. Lovely fresh looking plants, indoor and outdoor, but so much more than that.
Staff very helpful and friendly.
I would certainly recommend a visit or 2.
R. H.
Different to when I used to go regularly for fish food before moving to Scotland. Shop a lot bigger. It was late in day and mostly in the dark, so didn't stay long but I'd recommend.
B. C.
Love this garden centre! Great quality plants at a reasonable price. Lots of little baby bargain plants too which I love. Set out well especially during these times. You could easily spend spend spend they have so much choice. Lots of indoor plants which you don't get at enough garden centres for some bizarre reason. My go to place, definitely worth a drive out 😍😍
j. a.
Great place to wander round different shops and a Coffee shop
J. B.
Good garden centre, plenty of choice from plants to gifts, purchased 2 nice acers and lots of plants. Will be back.

M. B.
Absolutely knocked me for six it has changed so much and caters for home and garden now, only sad part was the steam museum has closed
C. R.
Everything you need is here. Friendly staff can't do enough for you . Massive selection of plants .
R. H.
Great choice of plants but shop not pleasing display. Cafe has better food than appearance.
D. W.
Lovely garden centre with its own seperate pet centre ample parking. Way in walks you through outdoor plants and then into very large garden centre equipped with lots of crafts and gifts foe sale. Tastefully displayed. There is also seperate little shops inside a beautiful boutique clothing place big man store and tje cafe is set up all around the conservatorys it has a outsoor abroad feel to it. The cafe has an amzing chef ans the food is great quality and not too expensive. Sometimes they have singers serenading your meal. A really nice place to visit. Unfortunately no Dogs allowed and thetoilet block is the carpark so. Worth a visit even if you arnt interested in just plants. The ground is even and accessible for wheelchair users
v. m.
Very nice
J. S.
Never knew this place existed! We popped in after visiting Brodsworth and my Mother in law bought some winter flowers. Was a nice walk round, lots of things reduced and a good range of flowers and garden ornaments.
Z. S.
Just bought a catkins tree and a winter fire bush for our shrubbery...so much choice here and great value for money
k. l.
Nice garden center. Plenty of cheap plants. Selection of gardening equipment. No heavy machines like lawnmowers. Their are plenty of novelty garden ornament types of things to buy. The cafe is not the best. ( burnt coffee )
J. C.
Large garden centre lots of plants plus restaurant/cafe ..too the side is a pet centre and further inside small shops selling homeware garden furniture/clothes .rugs.garden accessories. Bits of fresh cakes /bread etc.kids toys even the wooden ones .cards and lots more it's an Aladdin's cave. And come Xmas everything for that. Been lots of times and will keep visiting. I never come home empty handed end up buying something.😁
C. C.
Love the new layout, so much more room. Lots of plants for gardens big and small. Also everything for all your garden needs patio furniture ornaments and water features. Highly recommended.
J. W.
I come all the way from the West Midlands to visit this garden centre because I just can't find anything comparable locally. The range and quantity of plants is unparalleled. It seems most garden centres, particularly the "chain" ones, are filled with all kinds of overpriced trinkets, books, shoes, supposedly home made cakes and biscuits and if you look hard enough you might just find a dead daisy plant lurking in a corner! Not this one even the cafe is traditional well cooked meals and snacks. Not an arty fatty picture on a plate consisting of less than appealing salad and some rubbery crust less quiche. Wait, isn't that an omelette?! Nah not this place, most plants grown on site, hanging baskets to die for and all the tools, tubs, sticks and stone planters you could ever want! Well worth a visit but be careful who you tell... We don't want the world and his wife coming!
T. T.
Excellent from spiders to coconut plants every thing to shop for
G. V.
Went to look for water features. Very good selection. Lots of other items for sale. Joanne was very helpful. Even offered to help us take our large item to the car for us. Could spend a week in there looking at everything. Definately recommend.
L. T.

L. W.
Breakfast meal not good at all but Thier Sunday carvery is to die for !! Will be going back 😁
J. B.
My go to garden centre where you can buy everything under one roof. The refurbishments and alterations have added to the range of goods on offer. It's a great place to visit even in the rain.
J. B.
Spacious garden centre full of fresh healthy plants competitively priced.Niced shopping area inside which caters to your every garden need. Very well informed staff, happy to answer all your questions, handy cafe.
E. B.
Always love going here, get my tarantulas and their food from here as well as my plants, everyone is very knowledgeable in their area of the place.
j. c.
Markham grange is getting better and better friendly helpful staff. Supporting small businesses. Lots to see and the restaurant is amazing.
a. b.
Spent over an hour browsing it's a massive place but a bit expensive
M.
You need to take some money with you before go there for shopping, but overall loads and nice things for house and garden !
D. B.
If there is anything you need you will get it there big selection of flowers shrubs, trees ,pots , and the steam engines are well worth a look . But they only have them working first Sunday in every month.
S. C.
Lovely place and reasonably priced :)
P. J.
There own brand compost is the best I've found by a country mile and the manure is like a bag of magic. All plants are more than fairly priced. Try the scones with a cuppa when the cafes open absolutely gorgeous
R. K.
Fantastic place with a massive choice of plants and many many other things.
Plenty of parking, public toilets, cafe.
All well kept and presented
R. F.
Fantastic selection of garden plants etc, lots of home wares, definitely recommended a visit. Pet shop great, although we went some plants and ended up coming home with 2 mice as well.
D. G.
Love it here. A great quality of plants and a lovely place to sit and have lunch. See you soon.
d. k.
Some wonderful Christmas decorations and nick-nacks , can't wait until the summer when all the flowers are in bloom .The signs on the entrance could be better positioned as I almost drove past it.
H. L.
Made a visit here to see the steam museum which was fabulous and the garden centre was absolutely amazing. Never seen so many plants in a gorgeous range of colours. Going back again very soon.
S. P.
Markham Grange is a fabulous place to visit now, massive variety of plants aswell as gifts, clothing i love,a rug shop and great restaurant. As a carer I love taking my clients, one of our favourite places to go!
B. L.
We visited this qant garden center on way to Norfolk, glad we did as there are lots of things to look at and a very nice cafe. If you go on a Wednesday there is also a free to visit steam museum.
M. G.
Fantastic selection of garden items I was looking for. Has improved greatly since my visit. Much more items and choice. Great 🪴
S. H.
We've always enjoyed walking around the different areas of the garden centre; but now that there has been some major refurbishment, it's even better. The selection and diversity of plants and garden products available has been greatly improved.
The cafe has been expanded, with a great new look and an even better menu.
Well worth a visit, whether you're shopping for plants, garden furniture, pond equipment, or just visiting for a wonder around.
S. M.
First visit here and was pleasantly surprised. Not many plants but a wonderful cafe offering a Sunday carvery at a very reasonable price (£8.95 if I remember correctly). Gardening products and quirky shop. Theres a steam museum too. Didn't venture in there this time but I believe it's free entry. We will pay another visit.
T. W.
Excellent garden center with a full range of everything needed for a garden. Contains a cafe and a selection of outlets including clothing/furniture/ornaments. Makes for a good shipping experience.
S. C.
Lovely plants hanging baskets garden furniture fountains everything you need even pet shop worth a trip staff are lovely also a cafe me and my partner Trev love coming always something new can highly recommend it.
S. H.
Once found it was a great nursery + museum, only problem it was cash only and only had little cash and bank card, so couldn't shop as we wanted too. But will certainly go again now we know where it is.
G. T.
Lots to look at and a good cafe nice coffee
M. A.
We went for the restaurant but didnt realise the site was being refurbished and wasn't all operating, the food was good and what we saw of the rest was too, it will be impressive when it's all finished.
b. o.
Huge Garden store with Cafe and so much more.
P. D.
Fantastic array of products and food. They literally sell everything.
J. H.
Plenty of parking, good variety of healthy plants including a range of hydrangeas that are sublime.
At this time of year the number of plants are reduced but there is still a choice and also ornaments and gifts to browse. Toilets in the car park are very clean.
P. T.
We went for lunch on Sunday having come across the place by accident (just driving passed). We weren't particularly looking for a carvery, but it looked very nice so we all had it. The food was delicious. The scones were HUGE, and the atmosphere was amazing. They had a professional singer in the restaurant, which created a fantastic vibe. We will definitely re-visit.
d. s.
The rug shop excellent great prices
R. B.
Great selection of plants and all things garden
C. G.
Fabulous cafe! We drive over an hour just for the food here its excellent
H. B.
Fantastic choice of plants. My only criticism is they need to get pricing correct. Plants are priced in the show area but then at cash out staff state a different price saying the tills have not been updated.
T. C.
Excellent range of plants. Prices vary, some of the preplanted tubs and hanging baskets were very expensive. Plants were very healthy and it has improved considerably recently.
A. F.
Handled this strange new world incredibly well, hats off to the staff and management. The whole experience was well managed. After being isolating for so long it was such a welcome trip out to but some lovely plants for my garden.
P. W.
Had a lovely meal in the cafe meat and potato pie hubby loved it 😋
D. W.
Lovely garden centre been many times, friendly helpful staff. Lots of plants to choose from, lovely indoor shopping area with plenty of small gift shops. Would highly recommend.
D. “. K.
Been 're vamped a bit and cleaned up loads.. massive effort and it shows .. cafe is now way better and the scones were lovely 6 different types to choose from various teas and decent coffee ... I will definitely be you going back ... well done.. I only popped in for a quick look stayed nearly two hrs !!!
I. S.
Nearly there!! Looking good now alterations are taking place. Prices are competitive and plants we've had previously are all thriving. We would have stopped there for lunch but now the cafe area is open to the general area it was too cold to sit for very long.
K. H.
A new manager has injected new life into this garden centre and I can only see it improving each time I visit. Wasn't bad to start with. Also includes a mans shop, aquarium and fish sales, decent cafe, various other retail outlets plus a steam museum. Well worth a trip out.
S.
Wonderful 😁 Arrived looking for hanging baskets. Never been to this particular centre. Perfectly set up for COVID-19 with hand sanitiser & all customers respectively adhering to the 2 metre rule. The centre lent to this naturally with plenty of room to move round. The selection of plants & anything else you coul imagine for your garden. Staff lovely, prices reasonable, will be visiting again.
A. R.
Very pleasantly surprised with their ongoing improvements.
Excellent layout and a vast amount of garden plants, excessories and equipment all reasonably priced.....definitely going again.
T. A.
Bought our baby boy his first pet rabbit
G. U.
Great selection, of plants and shrubs for all small and large gardening needs, plus lots of other eye catching supplies, also a well stocked pet centre and much more.
L. W.
Fantastic garden centre for the price careful gardener. Lovely healthy plants at great prices. Small gift wear section too. Plus, several boutique shops selling a range of wares.
V. S.
Loved it here, much better than it used to be. The cafe is very nice. There is a lot to look at although the layout is confusing. The plants looked good quality. I saw lots of nice things I'd like to get in the future for gifts especially. The exit is near the loos but you have to go outside to a separate toilet facility, not so good in the rain. The entrance is then a short walk away to get back in, this was a bit of a faff and if you find it hard to get about it would be off putting. Didn't get chance to look at the steam museum that's at the same site but we would make time to go on our next visit. Good overall experience.
m. k.
Always a good day out for the bonsai show. I wish they'd do something to improve the toilet facilities though as it's a pain having to go out to the car park
N. S.
Excellent garden centre plus more. Staff very friendly and helpful. Good Covington measures in place. Well worth a visit, we'll be back !
R. S.
Really helpful, friendly and always have the right information when asked questions about products and other various items.
S. M.
The range of plants here is good and colours are beautiful, plants are well looked after and prices are good too. There are also a few small shop units selling quite a wide range of goods so all in all well worth a visit and don't forget to make time to visit the cafe
J. S.
Got some good bargains on bedding plants
The till area is a bit of a trek walking up and down baskets before you get to a till
Ok if you're good on your legs but for those who have difficulty walking not so good
J. P.
Lovely garden centre with lots of items to see and a cafe sometimes with a singer
D. N. W.
Unique spot this one. All under cover, you can buy goldfish and a tweed jacket as well as all the plants you might need. There's a few vintage furniture shops and a cafe. The staff are very pleasant and good humoured.
The whole place is heated via the large shed next door. This is the home of a steam museum with some impressive machines on view. It's a great place to visit particularly when it's miserable outdoors.
D. B.
Great place , you could spend all day here , wonderful choice of absolutely everything!
C. F.
What a transformation! Having used this garden centre for over 20 years I have to say that I have never seen it looking so good. It has been very well laid out and the new entrance takes you to all the plants which are plentiful, very healthy and well priced.
Very impressed.
C. D.
Lovely place to browse around. Lovely plants plus lots more selling units to look at. Nice eating area too
f. s.
Loved it, very friendly and helpful staff. Huge range of really lovely accessories for the garden spoilt for choice
J. H.
I haven't been here for many years due to moving away but now back in Donny and I was amazed at how much this garden centre has changed and extended I would not have recognised it...it's absolutely amazing now and the choice is fantastic...I just came for a look around but I will be back this week with a list as long as my arm!!
S. C.
Great garden centre for a day out, a pet store with reptiles and small animals, garden furniture and a great choice of plants. There are also a massive choice of pots and gardening accessories. Prices are reasonable and the cafe has great food.
G. I.
I can't quite quantify why only 3 stars other than to say the layout is a bit disorganised and not sure what this place is wanting to be. Outside is a good we'll stocked plant / garden centre. Inside plenty of garden goods mixed with an eclectic mix of small private units. Overall most things for the garden can be found here either hardware, plants or ornaments just a bit confused in layout.
Personally I would avoid the Viscum outlet area, I find welfare of the stock not a priority but this shouldn't and doesn't detract from the main Markham site and goods.
Very busy here. On site cafe with good cafe food and drinks. Can be very busy in the car park at peak periods.
p. c.
Nice enough place plenty of choice but a little over priced I feel.
D. B.
Staff are very approachable, friendly and professional. Always willing and eager to help. Bought many pets, feed and accessories from them over the years. Not many shops let you handle the animals before you buy but these do. Highly recommend
S. S.
Lovely place to go for the garden plenty plants pots ect lovely big fellas store prices great t shorts fab even when you are on the large size sells most things have a day out at Markham grange doncaster
P. S.
Very good experience, lots to see and do. Getting better every visit, so much stock, much bigger than it used to be.
P. W.
Disabled friendly, great improvements made since our last visit last year, lots of lovely fuchsia and reasonable prices, also lots of bedding plants, I had a lovely cheese toasties, daughter wanted a jacket potato but they had sold out, she settled for a chip butty which was huge she couldn't finish it, really enjoyed the time we was here. Will be going back soon for more plants. Please note the toilet block is outside the exit entrance if you need the loo
B.
Great pet friendly garden centre. Lots to look at. And a dog friendly cafe too. Food wasn't the best but it was nice to be able to have our dog with us. We'll probably go back for food but only for the breakfast menu. Which im sure Will be much better
A. H.
Just been to Markham for garden plants and what a nice surprise! The plants are lovely, as was the young woman who served me. I haven't been for a while because it seemed to be going down hill, but my experience today was really positive. We'll done Markham Grange, whatever you're doing, it's working. I look forward to seeing more improvement.
P. S.
Plenty of things to buy for the home and garden, various plants and shrubs, depending on the season. A better entrance than before as it was a single turnstile old fashioned type affair but now a lot wider and you can enter with your trolley which you couldn't before. The entrance is a fair walk away from the café as it brings you all round the shop before you get to it. I would assume people that have a walking disability would be out of puff before they get there? Unless you can enter at the top of the shop through the exit, as this would save a lot of time and effort??. A lovely extension to the cafe, with fresh food available in the form of dinners, sandwiches, cake and snacks. Plenty of seating and some comfy settees to watch TV while relaxing. Friendly staff, worth a visit.
M. N.
A number of important changes there now. Emphasis has moved more towards the plant sales and prices are very competitive
L. S.
Although this garden centre has a great choice of plants the prices have rocketed since the recent refurbishment. This is very disappointing as I have visited Markham for over 20 years as the only place to go for such a vast choice of fushias at extremely reasonable prices. I now consider that perhaps it is not worth the journey as I can get comparable plants nearer home.
D. R.
It is light and airy but cold. I went in the cafe and made the mistake of going after 11:30am at which time breakfast ceases to be served. The staff were however pleased to serve me a bit of fried gammon !
Now what is the difference I ask you between frying a bit of gammon and frying a breakfast ?
Why not give the people what they want when they want it unrestrained by petty time restrictions. The kitchen staff are there working whatever they cook.
I. A.
Great range of products and loved the changes to improve my shopping experience.
S. J.
Lovely selection of very healthy plants, trees and bushes at very reasonable prices. Nice selection of pots(plastic, wood and pot) tools etc also reasonable prices.
The cafe has a very welcoming atmosphere, very clean and does a nice cup of tea, a selection of herbal tea, coffees and cold drinks to tempt all tastes.
The food is generous in portion sizes and tasty. The presentation on the plate is very pleasing and the staff obviously take pride in their work.
There are also a nice selection of small reasonably priced shops within Marram Grange - second hand shop where you can get anything from furniture and ornaments two very reasonably priced second-hand guitars in excellent condition. Clothes shops that cater for men and women including bags etc. A card making shop that sells cutting dies, toppers etc. A tool shop for your DIY needs.
I will have to mention the pet shop because my LO loved going in there and seeing the birds, esp the parrot. The staff are well informed and very helpful with nutritional advice.
It really is a place with a lot to offer and I definitely recommend a visit.
d. d.
Great garden centre and pet store at Markham Grange. Plenty to look at also have an outdoor furniture section and a few other independent shops inside the centre.
G. W.
Fantastic carvery well worth its money won't go anywhere else for Sunday lunch in future
G. I.
Lovely garden centre and Christmas fayre. Also worth a visit to there cafe. Delicious food 😋
K. H.
Since they have had a move around, you buy heavy bags of compost you now have to walk all of the way around dodging everyone and everything to get to the checkout. I now only go for plants and bits n bobs. If you could get to the checkout more directly with the heavy stuff it would be a five star place.
D. B.
went for xmas market nit as many stalls as they said and ni xmas music playing just seemed to be over priced home made bits some things nice but toi expensive
G. A.
First time visit after lockdown and wow its changed ! Lots more shoplets very well thought out cafe and eating areas .Well worth another visit !
K. E.
What an interesting place. A bit like the tardis, with lots to see inside, plus, the best scones I've ever eaten!
T. S.
Markham Grange Nursery & garden centre has had a massive transformation over the past 18 months and now looks amazing. Well stocked & at good prices. Staff are very helpful.
A. A.
Have visited over several years, well stocked , good produce nice cafe wheelchair friendly.
P. G.
An enjoyable place to visit with plenty to see and buy, a huge variety of outlets on site; Plants and the usual Garden Centre plethora, clothes, live fish, antiquities, gift shop, exotic pets and a café who cater for a variety of tastes and serve "Good" Coffee.
Plan your visit for when the Steam Museum is in Steam for a double added bonus. We never come away empty handed, either plants or some other item that you simply can't live without.
S. s.
Enjoyed going round the garden centre with my family daughter enjoyed it to
S. H.
Up to a few months ago this place seemed to be going downhill, but perhaps it's under new ownership because it seems to have a new lease of life in the last few months. It is being reorganised and the stock seems to being replenished. The cafe is OK too with big portions and decent quality, even if the environment is a little 'dark'. This place should be a gold-mine for the owners, if they can get it right.
R. H.
Great choice of plants, got just what we needed. Very reasonable prices. Will go back for other plants.
C. S.
Good garden centre ,brilliant plants some are good prices, but some a bit expensive , but I Always come home with some lovely plants ,would recommend a visit ,
J. D.
Had a lovely meal and and bought some lovely plants. Alot of plants reduced . Will definitely have a meal there again
G. B.
Difficult times for many businesses including garden centres. Coming to the end of the season now but they are gearing up for Christmas with a lot of effort going into the various displays.
S. E.
It has nice cafe. It sells plants and pots and firepits and good stuff.
L. J.
We go just about every week for food for our reptiles. Garden centre is amazing. Pet section is fantastic. They are always willing to give advice ect if you need it
A. P.
bought some red geranium plants during lockdown collected them when notified these plants are now flowering at their best and—-they are absolutely gorgeous never had geraniums as good as these thanks Markham Grange for delighting me and neighbours.
Mr A Parkin
S. H.
Great garden centre. Bought tomato plants and various plants ie lobelia geraniums begonias and a very unusual outside cactus style bush. Had lunch there. Not a huge menu but what we had was good. I had a jacket potatp and hubby had a panini. There are a couple of independent shops inside for larger clothes. This was good as I am a larger person. I bought two tops , good value. There is a pet shop there as well with a few animals including a blue and gold macaw. He had no intention of talking to me, I tried my best to get his attention but he wasn’t interested. We spent a very pleasant few hours there, and will certainly visit again.
S. M.
Good choice of food great seating in very large glass green house roof.
D. W.
Brilliant Christmas market really friendly traders, but the sweet man has gone, merry Christmas your guys 🎉🎆🎇🎎

R. S.
Alright over all... Way too expensive
P. D.
After visiting several other Garden centres went here and found a much wider range of plants at very reasonable prices
S. H.
One if my favourite garden centres for plants. They have a huge range of healthy plants and you can even fund more unusual selections here. There's also a pet shop which sells exotic pets and parrots.
S. S.
Good choice of garden tools and equipment. Great display of owl's on my last visit. Prices are a bit higher than I would have expected. Overall a good experience.
K. P.
Good selection of plants and crafts but the place looked a little tired and most shops weren't open
J. W.
Great shop amazing pet shop!
M. H.
Markham grange as undergone a change round so it made our visit a longer one as we could not find what we were looking for .the bedding plant area had no sign s up so it took ages to find what we wanted .no staff available to ask at all .prices have gone up also many are on offer in multiple buys so you end up spending more ! Will definitely have to look elsewhere !!
A. H.
Great range of goods.
Z. B.
Could do with signs directing you through the shop as we couldn't find the exit or tills. However, the pet shop was great to walk around. The children loved it and the staff we friendly and full of knowledge.
L. R.
Good choice of plants & planters. Not keen on all the sidelines I am a bit old fashioned a garden centre is just that a garden centre.
J. L.
Extended hugely since our last visit, increased prices are probably to pay for the expansion, plenty of stock to choose from, but sadly no ericaceous compost.
a. h.
Large variety of plants and equipment, brilliant steam museum
D. S.
Has a brilliant Christmas market each weekend starting today
W. T.
Currently undergoing a refurbishment, so not a lot to see. I'm sure it will be much better when finished.
R. A.
This is a lovely family garden centre. Great plants, pet foods, cut flowers. The staff are very helpful. Plenty of car parking both in front of the store and round the side.

G. W.
Wow what a place to visit.... plenty of ideas and inspiration as well as lots of lovely plants. We will be back now we've found you!
I. K. M. A.
The plants which some are delivered from other nurseries are cared for & they grow a lot of quality fuschias for hanging baskets. (Gardening trends change) so just like the seasons, it's worth popping in even in winter.
New layout of garden centre is a improvement than previous. Also they have a small aquatic / fish area. Quality German engineering guarenteed to last.
The inside cafe is rightly popular, especially OAP's & grandkids as there is also a separate pet shop building next to it. As I am a bit of a nerd couldn't help noticing the telelecommunications tower an ideal spot for all safe travellers. Should you have nowt better to do there's also a small steam mueseum, which excepts donations from 'cloth cap wearers' and small children who love steam.
K. H.
Brilliant stuff but very expensive
Y. R.
OK but you have to walk a long way around just to get to the cafe that is next to the exit
N. H.
Great garden centre, well recommended for a visit, staff are very helpful
S. R.
A large nursery with a variety of plants, flowers etc.
It houses a few separate retail shops however every time I've been some of them have been cliseed
It has a cafeteria/restaurant that serves hot and cold food at reasonable prices.it holds a craft fair nearer the time of Christmas and has a lovely display of Christmas goods which are of course seasonal.
A.
Good for plants and crafts, but I wouldn't buy any fish from there. They were overcrowded with some larger fish barely having enough room to swim around. Some were diseased.
S. A.
Great gardening centre and pet shop. Won't get my pet supplies from anywhere else. Staff are really friendly and helpful 😉

J. P.
A 1hr 30min drive but well worth it got everything we needed and more staff very helpful i will go again .

Very disappointed. No dogs allowed now. Why have a pet store and not cater for visitors with pets on a lead? Drove there specially and will not be returning.

Never been anywhere else for my Begonia plug plants had connections with the staff and owners. I Go back to when it was just a Fuchsia nursery. It was then called Nuttalll's nursery , I think the owner was called Sam Nuttall, and I do remember him breeding a Fuchsia, named it after his wife Nellie Nuttall, grew this for many years I am now aged 82 and they know me as Stan the man.
