Absolutely lovely place as it was my first time at Horns. The cafe looks so quaint. The pond with the ducks and the angel is just breathtaking. Customer service was brilliant. Lady who sold me the tropical fish was very knowledgeable of types. Will be going back again

We recently discovered that they have a fish section so found a few additions to our fish family. The pet section could be better for cats and dogs but found a few bits. The ducks loved getting fed from food you can buy to feed them. Great staff and very clean. A massive range of flowers and gardening items.

Fantastic place with lots of plants, gardening tools and DIY stuff plus a great range of gifts and outdoor wear. The restaurant is very good with a good menu and reasonable prices. There is a lovely duck pond and gardens. I spent a nice couple of hours with my Grandson there and would definitely return.

Lovely place, good value as well. Also have a small aviary and a duck pond and the Durham Angel which is worth seeing. The food is good at a reasonable price, all staff we met were friendly. The prices of statues, pots ect were really good as well

What a wonderful garden centre. Like an Aladdins place I'm sure you can buy as much here as in the larger garden centre chains. Fresh floristry, memorial pots, garden ornaments, seeds, bulbs, garden implements, accessories, tools, wild birds and pet care, aviary, potted plants, hanging baskets, perennials, herbaceous plants, fruit trees, conifers, to name but a few - oh and a cafe. Pleasant surroundings with the owner having his own bungalow on site and with a wild bird lake.

Went for dinner , as normal the restaurant was packed & the food was very good and plentiful to the point we could not get through it all. Note to self next time we get small plates. The garden centre was busy wife had look at plants and I watched the birds in Avery for while. All in all it was a nice visit. Will do it all again, next week..

What a little gem. You are greeted by a beautiful pond with fowl and an angel. How quaint! It has masses of stuff inside including the Ivy Restaurant. My hubby and son got the hot beef bun with chips and side salad, they said it was beautiful, but all that was on offer looked gorgeous. Sadly no gluten free for me so I treat myself to a hot chocolate with marshmallow and cream...lovely! Think we'll be back again.

First time here in the restaurant. Booked for Sunday lunch. Shown to table and told to go up to carvery, so far so good. We were then hurried along the servery like it was school dinners. What meat? and do you want everything? we were asked and then told to keep moving while we waited for condiments. Just felt rushed. Poor quality overcooked vegetables. Pork was lovely and apple pie lovely. Very basic old fashioned canteen.

The entrance from the main road is fairly small (easy to miss) but the sat nav kept me from missing the turn. Free parking & lovely pond/seating area at the front (complete with resident birds). You enter through the shop, with the cafe to your left & plants (continue) straight ahead. We visited on Sunday & had something to eat in the cafe. Being a Sunday they had a carvery on which was very popular (reasonable at £7), lots of people calling in for takeaway. The food was lovely, could have done with more gravy though. Excellent selection of plants & general gardening materials at reasonable prices. Staff were fantastic, very welcoming & helpful. Would definitely recommend a visit & the cafe...

A family run garden centre. Good selection of garden and building materials - gravel, dolomite etc. As well as a selection of aquatic stuff, very good sheds made on-site to order. They also sell nice meals. As an added bonus, the duck pond and family gardens are available to entertain the kids. Staff are knowledgeable and there if you need them, but not pushy. As their postie (as well as being a customer), during the pandemic, I really appreciated the fact they let me use their toilet when most places wouldn't.

Love the food. I come here for a fix of homemade goodness and the staff are great but the atmosphere is so amazing, really friendly customers, my daughter is 1 and loves to wave and say "hiya" and everyone speaks to her and stops to talk and it's just so lovely. I can't say how warm this place makes me feel. They have amazing gardens and ponds. The plants are fab, they've always planted out brilliantly for me and the tools are well priced. Visit for the beautiful and timeless homemade food, stay to enjoy the ponds and plants. It's rustic and charming and I love it

Really lovely place, interesting entrance and car Park - adjacent to a large pond with ducks and black swans swimming happily there, haven't seen that before. Visited Horns for the first time on Friday.... wow what a fabulous range on everything for your garden and more. Spoke with a lovely assistant who helped and advised us with what we wanted. The ladies on the till were very friendly and helpful also. I have just took delivery of our bushes and the guy brought them right into my garden nothing seemed a bother. I will just say I don’t know why we haven’t been to Horns before but we will definitely be going again.

The restaurant in the garden centre has always been a winner for me. Food has always been served hot and tasted delicious with generous portions. The garden centre can be a pit on the pricey side in comparison to other local garden centres but the staff are normally incredibly friendly and helpful. What has let this place down is the poor condition of the fish & tanks. Every visit you will find a minimum of 10+ dead fish and we noticed on today's visit that the filters were clogged on a few tanks. I understand that when selling many fish, some are likely not to survive but it would be better if the dead fish were removed regularly to avoid customers seeing them in a third of their tanks.

Always enjoy a visit to Horns. Love to watch the water fowl in the pond. The shop is quite quirky (in a nice way) and often has something different from other garden centres. Excellent for all your plants and a nice cuppa, but never had any food - but must say I did watch a staff member clean all the work tops down and then lift a joint of cooked ham from the large meat slicer clean it down with same cloth and then put the ham back on.

Hidden in Shotton Colliery is a Garden of Eden which is owned by George Horn. When you drive in or walk in, if you haven't been there before, you will be gobsmacked. You will be amazed at the many species of ducks on the pond. When you see the Black Swans gliding across the pool. That is just the outside. Inside there are rows and rows of plants for the best and beginners of gardening. Not only that, the cafe serves food which I know astounded an ex chef of Claridges at a price which for a dinner, (luncheon) will cost you less than a tenner. In my humble opinion, this is the best garden centre in the North of England. Paradise regained.

Horns garden Centre is a really nice place , it sells plants, fancy goods it has an aquarium centre selling fish , fish tanks and accessories. There is also a florist and the Ivy Restaurant where we frequently eat Sunday carvery. 2 meals and 2 soft drink are just over £14. A choice of 3 meats , Yorkshire pudding, stuffing, roasties, parsnips, mushy peas , broccoli, carrots , mashed potato and gravy.
