Reviews of Alexandra Nurseries

Love this cute, eclectic, shabby chic place. Small but surprisingly well stocked with lots of tempting bits. Love the cafe too with tables outside/inside (wear something warm if it's chilly outside. You will be dry but could get cold). A short walk to some fabulous street art too along the road opposite. Well worth the trip.
P. C.
What a great find, compact but excellent selection of plant's at decent prices. Helpful, friendly staff and a cafe. We will be back!
L. D.
One of THE best garden centres in London. It's so cute inside with gorgeous plants, pots and creative displays. Staff are wonderful and the coffee and cake is really tasty!
S. H.
Compact garden centre with loads of outdoor plants and some indoor specimen in the small shop/cafe. Love that you can buy a drink from the cafe and sit at the covered area amongst the outdoor plants. Visited to get ideas on plants, sizes and prices and will be back when it's time to buy for the new garden
S. N.
One of my favourite local coffee spots sitting in the eclectic grounds amoungst the plants and vintage garden pieces. Great vegan sausage roll and chutney today but they have fab cakes too
L.
A green oasis in the 💓 of Penge. They have nice seating space indoors and outdoors. Fairly good coffee and nice tea surrounded by a lovely garden centre full of plants in every nook and cranny. Definitely worth the visit, particularly on a sunny day.
M. S.
Really enjoyed this nursery and the plants looked happy and healthy. They had fantastic children's books which I appreciated that so much because my 5 year old loves plants and books! I really liked the ceramic cache pots they had too and the salted caramel brownie was unforgettable. Definitely going back :)

What a little gem. Stumbled upon it while walking around the area. The decoration is beautiful and homemade cakes are delicious. Bought some plants as well which are really high quality.
M. M.
Peaceful café/garden centre/produce shop. Café is mix and match tables scattered amongst the garden centre both under cover and outside. The grapevine that runs around the roof of the undercover seating area is impressive and bearing lots of bunches of grapes. The undercover seating is basically a large greenhouse so does get warm. Coffee is good quality. Tea is loose, served in proper, large tea pots with cup sieves for each cup and saucer. Cakes have the appearance of home made with plenty of vegan offerings to choose from. Shop sells plants and gardening equipment as well as locally produced items like candles and honey. A lovely space to chew the fat with friends or sit and read a book in the sun with a nice brew. Recommended if your in the area. Seems popular with local well to do types and yummy mummies.

This is a great little nursery and cafe. My idea if heaven - coffee, cake, plants, books and knick knacks (some gorgeous smelling soap). Thus is a very unusual little place in Penge. I wish it was on my doorstep as I would be visiting all the time.
D. H.
Eclectic little garden centre. An interesting array of plants, pots and all things garden. Lovely little cafe within selling good coffee and teas in bone china cups and teapots, savouries and of course wonderful cakes. Great place for a meet up with good friends.
C. B.
What a lovely place to have a coffee. Feel like they could do with a few more indoor plants as there has been a massive boom in popularity with indoor plants 🌱 I would have bought a few if they had more variety
C.
Very small quaint garden centre but Nice variety of plants and helpful staff. Cafe with the plus of tables dotted around so you can eat and drink in plant areas. Would not want to go if too crowded as would not be able to maintain good distance but just right Sunday.
L.
Cute garden centre with yummy cake and tea. Wish they still had tea leaf but still good!
R. D.
Unusual. Great place to find an unusual present or just treat yourself ☺️
G. G.
Local people will know this nursery does super cakes hot drinks and hot savory snacks with well organised seating. The surroundings are very artistic using reclaimed materials. Very child and baby friendly. Of course lots of plants!!
c. s.
I adore Alexandra nurseries, it is just such a beautiful space. It is just perfect. The staff are so chilled, welcoming and friendly. They hold Children’s classes and sell the best sourdough loaves over the weekends. I just love it!
Z. M.
A little hidden gem in Penge. Small garden center with wide selection of plants, garden equipment and a great cafe with healthy food options like superfood salad or homemade soup. Love the variety of loose leaf herbal teas like jasmine, rose, rhubarb or lemongrass. Seats are spread out across the pretty outdoor spaces, feels like an enchanted fairy garden.
g.
Each time I have visited there has been a good selection of bedding plants and perennials. It is a very small place, but I have found interesting plants that I have not been able to find at larger garden centres. At this time, delivery is free with a minimum purchase of £30. I particularly appreciate the staff that know plants. There is also an interesting selection of pots, garden ornaments, and gifts.
M. C.
The best flower and garden centre in London. It's a small place with just the most stunning selection of plants. Just this week, I left with a lime plant that had already sprouted a couple of limes, a chocolate mint plant whose leaves smell of exactly that, some rosemary and a nice small indoor plant with these beautiful round leaves. The friendly staff will happily answer your questions and the cafe sells lovely pastries and coffees. For plants and flowers, it's a way better option than the nearby megastore.
T. G.
Amazing use of space in this hidden gem of a garden centre, coffee and cake vintage cafe, with plants, ornaments, books, gardenalia and cracking selection of cakes, teas, hot chocolate and coffee. Expert gardening and plant advice too!
J. L.
Wonderful local nurseries where you can pick up plants, candles, luscious soaps and best of all cakes and fresh bread. The staff a friendly and helpful and we are lucky to have this treasure in Penge.
M. R.
From my point of view the perfect synonymous of this place is "happiness". Really, pure happiness. In a beautiful flowers surrounding, here you can enjoy fabulous cakes and teas. It's almost magic and very relaxing. It doesn't matter which cake you will order...They are all fantastic and you will definitely try all of them because the temptation is literally too much. Yeah, I love this place and I'm sure you will love too.
J. L.
A great place for a potter and a browse. Very nice surroundings and was pleased to see you could sit amongst the flowers as you drink your coffee.
N. B.
Lovely quirky garden shop/nursery with an emphasis on ephemera rather than your standard rows of plants, bulb, seeds etc. Of course they do sell plants but it's a small place so there isn't a huge range. This place is more about little fun things to go in your garden or to care for the gardener so hand cream, pots, a few books and craft items are the order of the day. There is also a little cafe here so you can chill, have a coffee and pretend to be anywhere else other than Penge!!
P. S.
Just had lunch ... Delicious toasted sarnie and some carrot cake, now plant browsing!
N. G.
My wife and I go here every weekend for breakfast. The menu is simple but perfect, they don’t over complicate things and their selection of cakes as well as the quality of coffee are excellent. The staff are all incredibly helpful which helps to create a really nice ambience.
C. W.
A lovely place to stop for coffee and cakes.
They sell plants too.
J. G.
A real hidden oasis....atmosphere so tranquil....perfect!!!
C. J.
Beautiful spot crammed with interesting plants and associated paraphernalia. Cafe tables spread through the small space. Lovely staff and delicious eats. I enjoyed a cheese scone and some divine lime and lavender cake. All homemade!! Was my first visit - but definitely not my last.
k. c.
I love Alex nurseries, gorgeous cake (esp the chocolate and Guinness cake omg) and coffee. Fantastic plants and most are peat free, they are also fantastic for gifts, we tried to buy most of out Christmas presents from them, also they have fantastic house plants and curios. Really love this local business.
J. E.
This small nursery, shop and cafe is a great addition to the area. It's a lovely spot for a cup of tea and a cake and the plants I've bought there have flourished. Will definitely keep going back.
Update -
They've expanded since I first wrote and the shop and cafe are doing really well. Really lovely place and great service.
C. H.
Love this place, such a hidden treasure. Helpful staff, good quality plants (Christmas tree lasted for weeks and weeks), and best of all lovely cafe (with lots of cats chilling in the shade). Very relaxing atmosphere, you forget you are in penge! They also sell the national garden centre vouchers which is handy.
D. S.
Lovely vintage shop, wonderful plant nursery and great coffee with delicious pear and ginger cake. Just the price of the cake made me wince... But then the atmosphere sitting outdoors was delightful.
S.
A little oasis in the heart of SE London!
Unusual layout with a small cafe that is a real delight to use no matter what the weather throws at us. Staff are very knowledgeable too and I always manage to find the right plant for the right spot.
12/2/21 - Thank goodness that this little oasis has reopened after months of nothing but boarded up doors. No welcoming plants and herbs, no smiley faces but at last the gates are open and small shoots are pushing through that wonderful South London soil.
We need plants, herbs, trees and the great outdoors, even though it is -20, nothing better to blow the 'bugs' away and get back to some normality at least. What better place to do it than here. I really felt welcomed by the smiley young man who so kindly assisted me today - thank you - I'll be back🌝
I should add that I was the only person there, so very 'socially distanced' and I was buying logs for heating, so an 'essential' purchase .
J. L.
Another hidden gem in South East! Fantastic coffee place / nursery. An ideal place to enjoy your coffee surrounded by plants, flowers and bees in the sunshine. Pastries looked just awesome! The next time I will try a gorgeous almond croissant that had my name on it.
N. P.
A large variety of good healthy plants are available. There are many unusual garden ornaments also. They have a menu, where light snacks, drinks and cakes can be bought. There are several tables dotted around where people can sit and relax. It is just a little too cramped in a couple of places.
S. A. L.
Bought Calathea plant after searching all over for town to no avail. Alexandra Nurseries staff were very helpful and they've got a wide range of flowers and plants. There is the added benefit of the cafe inside the nursery as well.
P. L. C.
We loved this small garden centre, a very wide range of plants and garden ornaments for its size. The cafe serves the best coffee in the area, in fact, probably the best we found in England and the cakes were superb.
E. M.
Gorgeous little retreat from everyday life. It's such a welcome addition to Penge - a beautiful garden centre that sells lots of locally sourced plants and very interesting herbs (I have tried pineapple sage, black mint and 'berries and cream' mint!) The tea rooms are lovely - lots of outdoor seating amongst the plants and flowers plus an upstairs room usually filled with art and interesting stuff to look at. The coffee is scrumptious, as are the locally home made cakes. The gift shop is brilliant for buying something unusual for that 'difficult to find for' person. The owners and staff are knowledgable, extremely friendly and very good fun to chat to. They serve home made soup and bread at lunchtime and there are often classes or events going on. Last time I walked in, I briefly watched a candle making class!
Go and rediscover a bit of peace and calm!
D. P.
Fantastic coffee (top-quality central London artisan standard) and delicious cake. Lovely small garden centre with a good selection of interesting plants, assorted garden accessories/tools and gifts.
S.
I love the atmosphere at Alexandra Nurseries for a coffee. It is a pretty good spot in Penge.
S. R.
Beautiful place with lots of lovely plants and pots. You can enjoy your cappuccino in its café 🌷
C. N.
I love this place! Best coffee and cake in south London. It’s a hidden gem and a joy to visit year round. Lovely staff and always a great atmosphere whatever the weather. If you're in the area you'd be a fool to pass this place by.
G. G.
Highly recommended! I needed to do a wedding present and I got excellent assistance from the staff. They are very kind and helpful! Everything was delivered on time and in a immaculate condition! I am really thankful and would recommend their services to whoever needs! Big big Thank you !
R. E.
Wonderful little urban garden centre and cafe.
A small variety of plants, flowers, shrubs and small trees.
Amazing selection of cakes and food for lunch under the grape-vine canopy.
Little garden-trinkets also available!
D. N.
A really quirky little garden centre in Penge, south east London, complete with a cafe. This place is very different to the large, sprawling garden centres that have become the norm and as such, you may well find plants and products here that you won't get elsewhere. The staff here are friendly and helpful, so it's worth a visit for keen gardeners who perhaps live in the surrounding area.
R. B.
Really nice little garden centre, with loads of unusual houseplants as well as outdoor stuff. The cafe is really cool as well, you can get a coffee/lunch and sit outside among all the plants which is nice! 🦎
l.
A hidden gem, very sweet place
G. S.
A lovely place, full of flowering plants and garden goodies. The cafe serves full.meals and delicious cakes coffee and teas, with seating in and around the plants. Atmospheric and quaint.
A. D.
Friendly staff, lovely coffees and a great selection of well cared for plants. Delicious bread too!
S. H.
Good little Café, homage cakes, sandwiches etc and situated within a garden centre with open and semi covered seating areas. On a sunny day and if you like to be surrounded by flowers etc, this is the place for you.
S. H.
Beautiful garden shop. More like a cafe or bar. Good food and live music. Small selection of plants. Wouldn't be able to get all my gardening needs here but good for gifts
C. S.
Quirky little café/nursery. The café is a little bit expensive but the plants are reasonably priced with a lovely selection. Also sells a mix of new & vintage items including plant pots & gifts. Great place to browse or relax.
H. H.
A beautiful nursery / garden centre with café - hidden gem in Penge. Lovely, healthy plants and great selection of pots and gardening products. Strongly recommend a visit.
J. H.
Great garden centre and the dude with the beard is really helpful. Thanks.
M. R.
Like a little bit of the countryside in town. Stepping through the entrance is like entering a different World and a different time. The whole place feels like it's always been there as plants and flowers mingle with eccentric artefacts. Who'd have thought an old typewriter would have made such a nice planter. Antique stained glass panels add further colour and sparkle to the scene. Vines dripping with grapes provide cooling shade while you enjoy a slice of luscious cake and a cup of tea served from vintage china pots and cups. Nothing matches and that's why it works. The tiny, but well stocked shop provides all kinds of gifts and treats for the gardener and non gardener alike. Ceramics, hand made jewellery and trinkets jostle with garden tools and wild flower seed grenades. It's only 15 mins from Victoria to enjoy this little jewel in South East London. Well worth a visit, you will not be disappointed and will not leave empty handed. A friendly welcome is guaranteed at Alexandra Nurseries.
G. B.
My pot of Earl Grey Tea and home baked Pear and Ginger cake was Lush.
Very highly recommended, the staff are polite, efficient and pleasant. If you go, enjoy 👍
S. J.
Lovely garden shop and cafe; really nice atmosphere, coffee and cakes. Beautiful place to spend some time, buy a plant or sip a drink.
A. B.
What a find. Cute cubby holes throughout for cake & coffee (though would be less choice if raining or cold) Great plant selection. Needed more garden staff on the day I went
R. P.
First visit but certainly not my last . Lovely assortment of plants and accessories. Reasonably priced .
N. H.
This is a real gem, hidden away in a most unlikely place. Enter through the gate and you've fallen down a rabbit hole into a magical garden populated with weird bric-a-brac, arcanery and some lovely plants. A magnificent old vine coils itself around the covered areas where you can sit and enjoy great coffee, tea, cakes and food created on the premises. The shop sells a wonderful miscellany of stuff, perfect for finding something for someone who has everything.
L. C.
A lovely place that seems right out of Alice in Wonderland. The cakes are amazing and the little shop is full with little, cute items and gift ideas.
H. L.

A delightful cafe amidst a well stocked nursery. A wonderful, aesthetically pleasing, refuge, lying between the ugly high streets of Sydenham and Penge.
A. S.

(Translated) We have loved the place, highly recommended for breakfast! In addition to store where you can buy all kinds of plants and flowers, has tables in the middle of them, with heaters and blankets for days of worse weather and offer products of all kinds (including vegans). The attention has been exquisite too. It's a different way to enjoy nature in the city and have breakfast outside the noise of the big city.
