Reviews of Bud Garden Centre
B. S.
I was looking for a particular gift for my new grand niece. Found Bud Garden Centre online , their help and service was second to none, Brenda was so patient with me and answered so many questions I had. I highly recommend Bud Garden Centre Manchester.

Lovely Garden Centre, the plants were all really healthy and there was a very good selection. One of the best I've been to. Would definitely come back again!
R. R.
Lovely garden centre. Lots of unique and unusual plants, beautiful pots and environmentally friendly soil and soil additives. The lady who runs Bud is lovely too - friendly, welcoming and knowledgable.
A. D.
This is a great little gem of South Manchester.
It's easy to miss though as it's tucked away down an alley so look out for the sign.
The selection is always really good and the prices are much better than the garden centres however they don't do bedding plants, which is more environmentally friendly, so don't be disappointed if you can't find any however the plants they have are much better and will guarantee you colour year after year.
Staff are always helpful and knowledgeable so don't be afraid to ask if your not sure.

Myself and my husband visited bud garden centre yesterday. We are not good at gardening and needed some advice. Brenda was an absolute star. Despite being busy she spent time with us, asking what sort off space we had what was the soil like, was it a sunny or shaded spot and then suggesting different plants that would be suitable. The range of plants was second to none and I can honestly say it is fantastic value for money. We were that impressed we returned today for a few more plants. It it clear that Brenda is very passionate about all things to do with gardening and loves to share her knowledge with others
Thank you Brenda.

Bud is a little gardening gem tucked away in Burnage. Brenda is extremely knowledgeable and helpful, the plants are of excellent quality and will still be giving you pleasure years later. Her selection is always interesting and you will find species you won't come across in many other garden centres. Bud has been leading the way as regards peat-free compost for many years. If you love your garden, you should definitely check it out!
J. H.
Such a wonderful little garden centre! Their plants are always so happy and healthy. It's a really lovely place to visit.

It was fantastic it was to shop at Buds
garden centre last week. Brenda is sooo knowledgeable and really took the
time to understand my needs. I feel much more confident that I’ve got the right soil for growing my vegetables!
It’s so fantastic that we have a wonderful local garden centre in the community. Their knowledge, expertise and kindness is exactly what we need to create beautiful gardens!
J. S.
Bought 3 house plants, super service and great expertise with the staff! Definitely will be returning soon!
J. I.
Been meaning to come here for a while now. Very impressed with not only the variety of plants, but also the owners extensive knowledge. Picked up a 'mind your own business' for my dino-planter, very pleased with how it looks! Will definitely be visiting again.
E. M.
An absolute hidden gem. Fantastic range of plants, super helpful lady there, clearly a big part of local community. Fab 🪴
N. M.
Very friendly and helpful staff, great range of plants + accessories for its size

Bijou garden haven - a real tonic!
Popped over there today to find a couple of less common plants, They had one, is ordering one for me & I then found another couple I hadn’t intended to buy but had to have after hearing the owner chatting about it to the customer in front of me!
I felt so uplifted having just a little visit & wander around.
The owner is so knowledgable & works very hard to provide high quality, well reared plants. She gives great advice & there’s no sales pressure at all.
I’m mystified by the recent negative review. I’ve been quite a few times & each time I come away feeling inspired even if I haven’t ended up buying anything. I love this little ‘secret’ garden centre - it’s a gem!
R. C.
Visited yesterday, what a gem. This is a wonderful place to shop! So many beautiful plants in such a compact area. Always top quality plants, bulbs, pots etc and good advice if required. Also the only place I know in the area to buy Strulch which is amazing for keeping down weeds and helping plant growth. I was absolutely spoilt for choice. Highly recommended . Knowledgeable staff. A small independent business which thrives from its environmental aspect and quality! Marvellous! Love shopping here! ☺️

As a former teacher, I find it difficult to give full marks on any scoring system, after all we can all improve. After a bit of consideration though, giving BUD a four wasn't really fair to this small but well-formed garden centre. The owner is honest AND friendly and when you need a bit of advice is extremely helpful.
So 4 (or 80%), as I scored it previously, doesn't give credit where it is due. Therefore, I've rewritten this review and want to score it at 98%, which is as close to perfection as anyone will ever get from my marking (so hopefully nobody will ask about the 'other' 2%😉). As a result I've changed my score to a 5 ⭐ rating.
Support your local garden centre.✊
E. K.
Great little garden centre. Owner is very friendly and knowledgeable. Wide variety of plants, some I hadn't seen elsewhere 😊
H. C.
Bud is our absolute favourite garden centre in Manchester. My partner Gary and I have bought 90% of our plants from Bud over the last few years. Brenda is so knowledgeable and she goes out of her way to take the time to advise on how to best care for your new plants. If you think you will need a bit more guidance on what to buy, it is best to pick a quieter time to visit because the peak weekend hours are quite busy (which is fantastic because Bud is a great local indie who deserves all the success in the world!) The music is rocking and the vibe is chilled out and inclusive for gardeners of all levels. Big plot or tiny window box, veg grower or flower power trooper, Bud will have something wonderful for you!
D. T.
Lovely autumn event at the Bud Garden Centre ! Learnt how to grow some mushrooms in the garden 👍
M. C.
Lovely little garden centre, tucked away in Sunny Burnage.
Plenty of stock - flowers, herbs and shrubs etc.
Also houses a small miscellaneous section, selling gifts, pots and ornaments etc.
L. R. T.
Great service, good prices and nice plants. I got a string of pearls for 15£. Plenty of choice and helpful staff member
P. F.
The owner is friendly and the atmosphere is nice. Great range of plants. Peat free soil - great! Great to see things still able to exist, despite competition over the road from B&M and other huge organisations.
L.
Visited Buds for the first time today based on the great reviews. So pleased I did! Fantastic help from the owner, Brenda (& staff!), who gave me loads of planting ideas.
Very impressed with the range of plants and shrubs available in a relatively small nursery; it’s jam packed! Plus there’s lots of cute plants for the indoors too! I’ll definitely be back.
J. L.
Bud is amazing. Though smaller than the more commercial garden centres, it caters for all my gardening needs.
The customer service is outstanding,Brenda always has time to offer advice and support. Every time I visit I learn something new.
Knowing the things I buy from here are ethically sourced means I enjoy my garden even more.
I honestly cannot recommend Bud highly enough.
L. S.
Outstanding! I love this little garden centre. It’s small but perfectly formed! Lots of choice for indoor & outdoor plants and all very healthy indeed. Brenda is great too. She is so knowledgeable and is happy to give tips and planting ideas. Can’t recommend enough! 👌
T. P.
Beautiful garden centre- everything was very well looked after and the owner was very helpful. I had been suffering with fungus gnats in my house plants and she provided me with many solutions! Will definitely be revising. Reasonably priced as well! Thank you!
T. C. C.
Tiny little independent garden centre tucked away but absolutely crammed full of great selection of plants. Most seem to be locally grown perennials but also have specialist nursery grown soft fruits and roses. Lovely selection of house plants also and the best herb selection I've seen. Prices are competitive too. Definitely worth a visit.
M. G.
It is a very warm place even on a cold day, because there is always very knowledgeable people to discuss your garden needs and concerns with. Brenda is a super star of gardening and her colleagues are as well. Great choice of plants of all sorts and types, pots, compost and even some small unique gifts. Everything as eco friendly as possible.
We also got an amazing wreath and a Xmas tree there.
k. m.
I just love this place and was so happy to find a proper little nursery with staff who love their jobs and their plants and know what they're talking about, filled with just the right amount of variety and really good quality plants. Brenda is so lovely and always remembers to ask after my mum if I haven't brought her along. I think she did this after the first time we'd been!! It's those little touches that makes it so special and so much more than going to a big faceless garden centre with an overwhelming number of half dead plants. Such a great place for all your birthday and Christmas present ideas worth the lovely locally made pottery, houseplants and the odd antique. I can't recommend it highly enough. ❤❤❤👍👍👍
N. P.
By far the best garden centre i have been to. The owner is a fountain of knowledge. I have a garden which is overwhelmed by shade and the owner gave me loads of tips and advice on the types of plants i could try. Selection of plants is outstanding and the atmosphere is lovely. Its a hidden gem. All the plants i have bought from Bud garden centre have flourished. I highly reccomend this garden centre.
J. L.
My new favourite place! Amazing range, so friendly and helpful with top advice. Great to see a local garden centre that cares about plants and the environment, and is peat free.
T. T. P.
Travelled from Liverpool today with my friend Cathy and it was definitely worth the 45 minutes to get to this delightful little garden centre. It is small but perfectly formed with interesting plants and a great little shady plant section. Plants are all healthy, ethically grown and sourced and is obviously the passion of the owner Brenda who was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful.
Everything was beautifully displayed and gave me design ideas for my own garden.
Definitely will return.
Thanks Brenda!
L. O.
Super garden centre where you can buy healthy plants in peat free soil. Lovely ethical gifts and great vibe.
L. P.
Our first time today visiting 'Bud Garden Centre'. Went there with my husband because of the good reviews. We were VERY impressed!! All plants are well looked after : ) A very lovely lady, Brenda, she has all the knowledge you need to know about all the plants she sells. Fantastic customer care! Recommend to everyone, you won't be disappointed :) Thank you Brenda. Will definitely be returning soon :)
L. R.
Fantastic little garden centre with a surprisingly varied selection of plants given its relatively small size (garden and houseplants I might add!)
Brenda is a sweetheart and was more than happy to chat about all things gardening and pass on hints and tips she's learned. She even talked us through all of the variations of tomato on sale (grown from seed on site) to help us make up our minds.
Way more personal than any of the big chain centres, were so pleased we've discovered this little gem!
M. Q.
We visited the garden center today myself and Jeni my wife, it was such a surprise. Hidden gem, we did not expect it to be so full and the service was great. The owner was so helpful giving Jeni tips, we will defo go again.
T. J.
Great little place with a great selection of outdoor and indoor plants, some quite unique plants. Would definitely recommend for any plant lovers around Manchester to go and have a look, I picked up a little crassula buddhas temple for £4!
b.
I love this little oasis of a garden centre. Brenda is friendly, lovely and knowledgeable and always has a great selection of interesting plants. I love the businesses eco friendly vibe and consciousness, supporting local and uk nurseries. Always a fantastic visit and brilliant bit of our community.
Brenda also organizes 'Levenshulme open gardens' which is a fab celebration of our community and great for inspiration.
d. d.
Well worth a visit. A wonderful, independent garden centre, run by the very helpful (and incredibly knowledgeable) Brenda.
Interesting selection of vigorous, healthy plants, plus some attractive pots and other horticulture related stuff that could make good gifts for anyone interested in such things. Also stocks genuinely eco-friendly compost that I find just as reliable as anything made with peat, and vastly superior to most of the rubbish being passed off as compost nowadays!
N. G.
Nice place for plants and pots. Nice customer dealing.
R. L.
Love Bud's environmentally sustainable approach, there's always a good selection of plants, pots and compost in its compact set up. The business is real labour of love I think, and it shows.
V. H.
What a little piece of heaven tucked away! I went yesterday for the first time in probably 20 years it is simply gorgeous! Stunning plants and how lovely to see such healthy vibrant plants compared to bigger garden centres where they are always wilting or look half dead. These plants and flowers have been grown with love. I could take my book and sit in there and read... It's so beautifully tranquil.
R. S.
Brilliant little garden centre run by the brilliant Brenda who not only sells excellent stuff but also gives great advice! Thanks for the compost and pear tree chat today! A special place with service that cannot be matched by the bigger garden centres.
C. M.
Stumbled on this amazing little garden centre when searching for stockists of Dalefoot wool compost. Travelled from Liverpool and was really impressed with the variety of plants packed into a tiny space. Lots of lovely little quirky ideas to inspire- owner Brenda extremely friendly and knowledgeable.
Will definitely return!
C. M.
Such a lovely little garden centre with the kindest and most helpful owner! Very good variety of plants and at a fair price too. Hope to return very soon
I. S.
We visited the garden centre on Saturday and what a wonderful find. The owner is great and gives lots of good advice. We found fantastic plants you never see in the large garden centres. We will definitely visit when we visit Manchester
A. W.
My favourite place to buy plants. Small but perfectly stocked with gorgeous, well-priced and healthy plants . It's a real pleasure to be able to pop in regularly and see what's in. Brenda is incredibly knowledgeable, and doesn't sell anything that won't thrive (so you won't see plants that get eaten by slugs!).
S. L. C.
Excellent wee hub for gardening kit and plants. Some gems in there and an excellent spring visit. Recommended.
F. F.
We always get a warm welcome from Brenda whenever we visit. She has a great range of plants, pots and peat-free compost.
L. W.
Small centre but with lots on offer. Peat free compost and plants only.
Brenda (owner) is very friendly and helpful.
Guilt free gardening!!
A. J.
Nice to meet you today Brenda. Cheers for the great plants and the chat! See you in a few weeks no doubt! 😀🙂😄
A. S.
Lovely little garden centre and the lady running it is very knowledgeable. Beautiful selection of plants and pots. Highly recommended a visit, we will be back.
R. A.
Seemed nice and compact.
I can over look the difficulties in parking considering its location.
I cant overlook the brusque rudeness of whom I guess is the owner who was very dismissive of a simple plant related query.
Possibly only for local clientele as I had travelled a distance to get to this place?
###
10/07/2018 - Updated to reflect their positive response to my initial review of 1. A professional email exchange to discuss what happened as a bit of a one off occurrence which I accepted, upped the rating and I appreciate the manner in which they dealt with my review.

Amazing little oasis in Burnage. Brenda is delightful and helped me pick out some new tomatoes I've not tried before ready for the next season... 😊
This is a place I'll keep returning too for sure.
W. C.
Fantastic place. The quality of the plants is superb, and the knowledgable staff are happy to help if you have any queries. My go-to-place when I want new plants, or just some inspiration.
A. M. G.
I went with a very vague idea of what I wanted and where I was going to plant it. The two ladies there are so helpful and very nowledgable. Their suggestionsand tips for after care are great for a wanna be enthusiast gardener like me (I know nothing!) It was hard to not leave with everything. It is all so well looked after too and the plants all look very healthy.
M. R.
Had a lovely visit here today. Brenda helped me pick out the perfect plant for my new flat, and it was quite affordable too. Will definitely be returning.
L.
Very small 'garden centre'.
Able to get common plants here.
No proper parking as it is at the end of a residential street.
Some beautiful local goods like plant pots and dishes are also sold. The owner is lovely, welcoming, and very helpful!
J. G.
Amazing plant selection and very friendly service. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone who is considering buying a new plant or any plant accessories.
A. G.
Discovered Bud Garden Centre today after recently moving to Levenshulme while looking for ferns for a terrarium. Upon walking into the garden centre you're greeted with hundreds of plants, trees, flowers, gardening tools, pots, ornaments etc etc., making for a beautiful hidden gem where you can find almost everything you need. Brenda knows pretty much everything there is to know about plants, and just from talking to her you can see the passion she has for her work. My partner Josh and I were absolutely delighted with our haul and will definitely be back soon!
PS: If I could give an extra star for not using peat I would!
R. H. P.
Brilliant place and just the sort of business we need in this modern world. Brenda is fantastic and very knowledgeable.
J. R.
Very friendly and knowledgeable owner. Good vibe in the shop with people wearing clothes you would expect to see in a post-apocalypse setting.
L. M.
Absolutely brilliant little local garden centre, they have fabulous stock of really good plants. Staff are very knowledgeable & friendly to everyone. Fab place. Highly recommend.
J. W.
Revisited this lovely garden centre yesterday and remembered why I love it.
It has great ambience and a wonderful array of beautiful, healthy plants . Brenda, the friendly knowledgeable owner, always has time to give helpful advice and guidance. Roisin
L. M.
So many beautiful, healthy plants packed into a small corner on a quiet street. Such a nice alternative to the sprawling garden centres that sell more trinkets than plants! Will definitely be coming back.
N. L.
A little oasis of a small Garden centre hidden slightly between Kingsway and Grangethorpe Drive. A really excellent selection of very healthy plants.
Well worth checking out the owner is very passionate and proud of what she has created against mass produced sales!!
M. W.
Beautiful plants! Very friendly and great service!
A. M.
If you want to be well informed about the plants you purchase, if you want them to be sourced in an environmentally friendly way and if you want them to be tip top healthy and well looked after, this is the garden centre for you. Always my first choice.
B. K.
Excellent place. So many exciting plants in such a small place. Very knowledgeable. Different and interesting plants a small trees. Great choice of herbs. All plants so well kept
B. J.
I love to support local businesses where I can so, even though I am far from being what I would call a ‘proper gardener’ I always call in when I am looking for flowers to fill my pots. I bought my Christmas tree there last year too. It’s only a tiny garden centre but that’s what makes it charming. Bud hosts a series of special events throughout the year, so it is worth following them on social media to keep up to date.
R. G.
Charming atmosphere, friendly help, wide variety of high quality plants.
It's a safe place to visit due to their thorough and reasonable social distancing controls.
M. G.
Lovely garden centre, and the personal touch from Brenda is so nice. Great variety of stock, and fantastic advice from a delightful owner. Will definitely be coming back!
F.

K. A.

Lovely as ever with a wonderful selection of plants, pots and more... cant wait to post a pic of our new wrought iron garden sculpture. Thanks Brenda!!
T. L.
The staff are really helpful - real knowledge and insights. The variety of plants is impressive - and does vary through the year. Other necessities, such as Compost or gravel, are in good supply too :-)
M. R.
Wonderful place. Most of my plants in my small front garden and back yard are from here. Big thank you.
M. M.
Cracking little place. Tiny, but still a good range of plants, super friendly owner and always busy when we've been. Stocks the excellent Sylvagrow peat-free compost.
P. B.
The best little garden centre around. Friendly and local, with good advice when needed. A lovely range of annuals and perennials, herbs, ethical gifts and garden supplies. I rarely need to go elsewhere.
s.
I love this garden centre. The owner is very helpful, knowledgeable and welcoming. There is a good variety of indoor and outdoor plants.
E. B. W.
Lovely range of plants, beautifully cared for and well priced
P. B.
Blink and you'll miss it but tucked away at the end of an urban cul-de-sac you'll find a charming oasis of foliage, saplings and, if your eye is keen, hard boiled eggs. Fronted by a modern day Charlie Dimmock, with knowledgeable and witty repartee, what's not to like?
C. H.
This place is amazing - a true oasis in the inner city Manchester.
The owners are incredibly helpful and happily advise on what to plant and when.
Prices are very reasonable and it's always good to support a local business.
Definitely recommend a visit.
