Reviews of RHS Garden Bridgewater

Love this place. Absolutely stunning scenery. Flowers, trees, pretty paths and arches. Educational for both adults and children and they have a lovely Play-area In the woods which my boys loved. It’s great in the day time and during Christmas we also attended an event called glow which was in the dark with lights along all the paths and trees. They had stalls too selling hotdogs and mulled wine. It was gorgeous 😊 (I even got proposed to there so it will always be a special place to us ! )

A really fabulous day here. Beautiful gardens and a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The walled gardens were lovely with so many different areas, veg, sunflowers, pools and community areas. The children's play area was excellent with plenty to climb, swing and explore. There was a path around Ellesmere Lake and views over the wild meadow to the canal, this then lead into the Chinese garden which was outstanding.
We had a great day with 3 boys aged 7 & 12.
You can see that so much hard work has gone into making the gardens beautiful again.

I loved this garden and had been waiting to have the opportunity to visit. Well worth the wait. Welcome building and facilities ultra modern. Gardens are still a work in progress but lots to see. Cafe in the grounds and lots of places to have a picnic. I especially liked the paradise garden and Japanese stream garden, which will look fantastic when completed.
E. H.
Stunning. Incredible gardens, brilliant place for all to enjoy. The play area is also fantastic for kids of all ages! And the food is delicious. Such a good idea using wasp traps in the garden (may be a good idea to dot some about the outdoor cafe area at the main site)

We came to the dog walking evening on the 27th of June. We had wanted to visit the gardens since they opened but this gave us, and our furry friends, the ideal opportunity to explore. What a resounding success it seemed to be. We absolutely loved it and cannot wait for the next one in July. Everybody we spoke to said the same as us.
The gardens themselves are beautiful and we all enjoyed exploring. It is a place that is ever changing and I would like to see it in the different seasons.
I really hope the dog friendly evenings remain a regular thing.

A beautiful place, in its infancy but coming on a treat. A place full of wonderful contrasts: inspiring cultivated gardens alongside wild, bee-attracting meadows; peaceful babbling brooks leading to challenging play areas. There is something for everyone here. You can spend a whole day and not get bored- or hungry as there are a variety of big and small dining places, with refreshments at reasonable prices, not to mention Halal choices. Delightful place, well worth a visit. Great value if you take up the special offer on joining RHS!

A lovely oasis of well-tended gardens very close to Manchester with easy access from the M60. There is ample easy and free parking. This is our second visit post-pandemic and we thoroughly enjoyed once again strolling around the various themed garden areas, particularly the walled gardens. Whilst there’s a lot of open space within the grounds much of it is still in development. In reality it is within and around the walled garden, including the greenhouses, that makes the visit worthwhile; there’s really not a great deal to see further afield. The labelling of plants is very helpful. The paths are wide and well designed.
We had a good late lunch at the cafe at the back of the gardens, though there is a wasp problem. We took time to rest on some of the many well-placed benches and contemplate pretty and uplifting views in almost every direction.
The other cafe near the entrance is too busy and noisy for our liking with a huge queue on a Saturday afternoon. The gift shop is well-stocked and interesting with books and ideas for gifts but the best part is the outdoor plant sales area. This is far better stocked and organised than all of the garden centres and nurseries around our home area. We also liked the idea of displaying plants for sale grouped by those that can be found in the different sections of the gardens. Great idea!
All in all a wonderful day out and we left brimming with ideas for our own garden, very glad we came.

A lovely oasis of calm close to the city. Beautiful surroundings with walking trails and a few different play areas for the kids.
There are also at least 2 cafés to enjoy as you stroll around. We visited in autumn and the woodland walks were wonderful on a bright sunny day. I think this place will only get better as the gardens develop and mature.
M. S.
Excellent gardens and walks to the lake, an abundance of plants and trees in lovely surroundings, this is a place that is constantly changing as more plants and trees are blooming and being added. The Chinese garden will look amazing when completed. The cafe serves excellent food, very good choices, from a snack to a meal. The garden centre is well stocked with helpful staff. The shop has a wide range of gifts, garden ware and local food and drinks.

Amazing colour for the time of year! In fact for any time of year. Great walled gardens. Fascinating place and not too crowded. Arrived Wednesday, 11am. Nice cafes and other refreshment stops.
P. G.
This is my second visit after a one year gap and all the trees and plants are maturing and really looking amazing. The walk around the lake is made really interesting if you read the info boards as a hall and formal gardens used to stand here. I’m looking forward to the Japanese themed garden to be completed- that was the only part I noticed that no work had been done on it sadly. A great day out for the family and very accessible too.
P.
A great day out, fantastic, inspirational. Definitely recommend booking on one of the tours, especially the walled garden tour....very informative and interesting. Everyone is very friendly and helpful a great place to visit again and again and watch the 158 acres grow along with the RHS. Hard to believe the gardens have only been open just over a year...and there's more to be done.

Been to RHS Bridgewater a couple of times now, love to see the gardens change with the seasons. Some beautiful looking plants and trees, very well thought out and a nice way to pass the time.
There is a cafe if you need some light refreshments though each time I've been I have looked at everything and took my time reading the material they have along the paths admiring the beauty of the place but my trips usually only take between 2.5 to 3.5 hours so never really needed to take a break at the cafe.
Booking online is pretty straightforward and checking in at the desk when you get there has always been pretty speedy for me.
J. J.
Visited here when I was feeling slightly down and was so pleased I did as it was a fantastic day out with lots to see. You don't have to be interested in gardening or plants to enjoy this place (though it certainly helps). You can spend anywhere from one to three or maybe four hours exploring.
L. P.
Lovely experience. Impressed with what's been achieved with the site. My friend (who has already visited RHS Bridgewater several times) & I had a fabulous afternoon, enjoyed both the grounds & freshly made pizzas. Although there was a 30 minute wait for the food, due to many people enjoying the experience, food was good and efficient service in the outdoor restaurant. Pleasant staff. Thank you.
C. H.
Lovely day out. Lots of food options in the main café...with 3 other smaller food/drink options around the garden. We had a lite breakfast and tea with scones in the afternoon. Food is so tasty I gave up my seat to some wasps and they were really enjoying my jam!.
Two main toilet areas. Lots of free parking spaces, including disabled parking and electric vehicle charging access. Polite and friendly staff.
P. H.
I found this garden to be well worth visiting. It is the newest garden owned by the RHS and they have certainly made every effort to ensure that the visitors have an interesting time.
I particularly liked the Chinese Streamside Garden which is very well landscaped.
There is a shop selling a wide range of items plus a plant nursery with some quite reasonably priced plants.
There are. Couple of cafes there but they were very busy when I was there so I did not have the opportunity to sample the food.
It never ceased to amaze me that this garden has developed so much since it was started in 2017 and there are still plans to expand it further.
Well worth a visit.
J. N.
A perfect escape from the hustle of everyday life. These gardens are an oasis of calm and tranquility. The Chinese Water Garden, Paradise Garden and Upper Middle Wood 🪵 are just lovely. There’s so much space for kids to run around & explore. Tons of seating dotted around the site… Look out for the super comfortable swing benches ☺️
It’s so pretty in Autumn 🍂 even on a rainy day. Also enjoyed the best cheese and onion pie EVER! No exaggeration.
RHS Glow was fun too. Wrap up extra warm though ✨
J. R.
What a beautiful place, lots of lovely flowers, plants, vegetables & trees including community gardens and award winning gardens.
2 excellent cafes one in the entrance hall overlooking a lake and part outside on decking and the other at the far side of the gardens.
Large shop which sell everything flower and plant related e. China, chutney, honey, chocolate, biscuits, jewellery, scalfs, hats, handcream, hand wash, bottles of juice, honey rum, tea towels etc etc. Plus of course a separate plant shop.
Lovely friendly staff and with plenty of parking. Wheelchair friendly throughout.
Large clean toilets near the entrance.
Well worth a visit.
T. C.
Lovely place to visit. Cafe, shop and garden centre free to access, just have to pay to enter gardens - but worth it. Interesting tours by knowledgeable volunteers included. Great walking around woodland. Ample free parking including accessible spaces.
B. S.
Our first visit but will definitely be visiting again. Fascinating areas of interest for all ages. Plenty of room in the restaurant with great food being served. Looking forward to returning and spending more time exploring.
D. G.
This is a delightful walking area, garden centre and coffee shop rolled in one. It is popular on weekends so hot food can run out quickly. We only got sandwich options because we arrived after 3 pm. The walking gardens are aesthetically designed and there is also woodland play area for children. A good place to spend a sunny autumn day. And even though it is not spring time, you will plenty of flowers to enjoy.
R. A. D.
Had a really lovely day out! My visit lasted about four and a half hours but I could easily have spent even longer. The flowers, colour combinations, texture combinations, etc. were both beautiful and inspirational. There are areas still being developed and some areas that I missed seeing - I could have done with more of a set route that took you everywhere! I would also have liked to have seen more plants with name labels as there were some real beauties but I left not knowing what they were. We didn't eat in the cafés but they looked good and fairly priced and there are plenty of picnic areas to eat your own food. There is a well stocked garden centre and shop.
I enjoyed the day so much that I ended up joining the membership so, now, I can visit free of charge and see the gardens through all the seasons of the year!
D. W.
If you like gardens, then this is the place for you. Quite an amazing array of plants in the latest garden from the RHS. Only really being developed in the last few years, so some areas are a work in progress, but definitely worth a look. Bring your own food, as catering is quite limited and expensive, they are not used to dealing with crowds of people. Good garden center with prices quite reasonable but sadly no discount for members of RHS.
e. p.
A lovely serene gardens, lakes and wooded areas to walk around. It's still quite a new place and some areas are still being progressed and developed. But overall, a very pretty place to wander around. There is an onsite cafe/restaurant, but this can get extremely busy, especially at lunchtime. Expect long queues and a run on the food items you want.
R. W.
The community gardens are lovely to see. Some of the gardens are in their infancy but plenty to explore. History buildings are interesting. Lovely cafe with homemade food. Nice selection of gifts in the shop.
S. L.
This is purely and simply a fantastic way to spend an afternoon. The plants are gorgeous, well tended and expertly thought out. There is a wonderful pathed walk through the forest which goes round a lake with ducks on. The walled garden is something to behold. I am so glad we FINALLY have something decent to visit that is on our door step. Price is £11.50 for non member adults, £5.50 ish for over 5s and under fives are free. There is also a tasteful adventure area for children too. Highly recommended
R. W.
Pre-book required - luckily was able to get a same-day ticket at the last minute. Free parking and no ticket is required if just to visit the shop or the cafe. Liked the Weston Walled Garden the most as many different flowers are there. The lake side is good for a walk.
Z.
Beautiful day at RHS Bridgewater. There is plenty of parking. The RHS building itself is stunning, sits beautifully in the gardens and architecturally is striking. The tulips have just started to come out. Admittedly, most of the flowers are not out yet so in a couple of months most will be in full bloom. The gardens are impeccably kept with lots of volunteers on site. The staff are very friendly and courteous.
H. W.
The gardens arnt quite full yet but they are beautiful. Lots of potential. Lots of unusual plants as well as some fruit and veg, water features and glass houses to look in. Cafe was expensive and not as nice as you'd expect for the price. Very busy also had to que for a while to get food. Overall had a lovely day. Nice plant shop on way out!
A. B.
Stunning contemporary gardens in a historic setting with lots of variety to see. You can easily spend a whole day just enjoying the gardens, take a picnic or grab a bite at the two onsite restaurants. The huge walled garden was amazing with beautiful wide gravel paths and lots of little hidden areas to explore. The water features were lovely and created a very calming ambience.
C. G.
I'm interested in plants, but not really interested in gardening, so be aware of that... 😉
Great range of flowers and other plants, especially in the walled garden and some interesting indoor displays. Good walks beyond the highly cultivated areas and quite a bit of that is wheelchair accessible; more is accessible to a fit wheelchair user (or driver) than is advertised (at this time of year).
The garden did feel quite new, however and I would personally expect to find it more interesting when more work has been done on the lake and when the arboretum is going and you can see the pigs (glimpses of the pigs were tantalising).
Restaurant served good food, but very busy at lunch time.
S. T.
My first time visiting. Beautiful and relaxing place to wander around. Nice cafe area.
Not sure if I was visiting between seasons but some areas felt a bit bare. I'd go back again though :)
S. M.
First time we visited today but will visit again in a few months time. Spent nearly 3 hours here. Large cafe & lovely shop. Some areas are still being worked on but there's still lovely things to see. Very peaceful place
G. P.
We managed to get in free of charge due to having an RHS disabled card and 2 carers, but if you have to pay its only £12 per person and i would agree that its a fair and reasonable price, especially considering you get ALL day entry. Free parking and loads to see, its clear the gardens are well taken care of and thought out. Such a range of plants in bloom, just growing/starting out and a wide variety of types. They had a beautiful Japan water garden which was my favourite but they also had british gardens, swamp/wetland, wooded areas, all wheelchair access and disabled friendly. They also have a wonderful gift shop, cafe and garden cenre/ area to buy plants, all again at a reasonable price.
c.
Our very first on a Saturday morning, arrived around 10:30 and it wasn't too busy. The wall garden is huge and reasonably mature given its age. Enjoyed the walk to and around the lake and thru the Chinese garden. Took a picnic found a quiet bench to sit near the reception building. Plants for sale are over priced, you can find the exact same plants much cheaper in garden centres throughout Cheshire. Must try and visit monthly to see the site change thru the seasons.
G. R.
Absolutely amazing place to visit. Perfect combination of manicured gardens and wide open spaces. There are spaces for kids to play and also information plaques with details or the area and history. Its still under development in some areas but this doesn't lessen the experience in the slightest. Would highly recommend.
C. 8.
Such a beautiful place and a lovely day out!! Just the queue in the main cafe was madness, although we did see another cafe further in the gardens, it wasn't open yet, but will be visiting again in summer time when everything has bloomed 😁
P. A.
Heard about it on 25th August 2022 on TV so visited. The volunteer tour guides are amazing knowing what they know and doing for free out of this world. Asked grounds people re lunch suggested pizzeria. All of ingredients from RHS. A pizza that is really tasted to be believed. Do the free tours and see the future this will change. I thoroughly enjoyed it and so did wife.
K. W.
Still a work in progress, but I can see it will be lovely. Nice easy walk around the lake, good kids play area in the woods. This early in March not much in the way of plants to see, but the attached garden centre (with nice house plants too) and cafe with views over the lake were great.
H. C.
Our first RHS experience and WOW were we impressed. Fab planting, got some great ideas lovely helpful staff and delicious pizza! Easy walking, mainly flat, lots of benches. Highly recommend
J. S.
Ok firstly I have not forgiven RHS over the culling of the deer, however, I put that to one side and have visited. On the plus side the huge car park is great, just as well because public transport to the site is practically non existent! The cycle facility is the best I have seen, the tool station is a fantastic thought.
Visiting the gardens in winter was probably not a good idea, there is still a lot to be done, and it will take a long time for the gardens to get established, but you can see that in few years it should evolve into a great attraction.
The shiny visitor centre is impressive, with some issues. Mens toilets, 6 cubicles, really? It was soon overwhelmed and when I visited it was so full I could not wash my hands. This situation needs urgent attention. As does the cafe. The food is excellent, but the service is appalling, disorganised and really needs a complete overhaul. Staff standing around not appearing to know what to do, really slow. On top of that the tables are not cleaned after use, this is unacceptable at any time, but particularly in the current climate. Plenty of room for improvement I feel.
D.
Lovely garden, well kept and nice food however there a a long queue for the food.
The flowers were freshly planted, if you like plants it's a must go place to anyone in the area.
M. L.
Lovely venue... best value is to be a member... for time & time again days out. Well worth it. No two visits are the same, great to see the place change with the seasons. It's an absolute asset to the area. Unfortunately, the only criticism is the cafe. Great food but horrific queuing / wait system. Can take close to an hour to get served at peak times. Which you'll stand in a long queue for. If they can get this right. It'll be a perfect day out.
T. B.
Large open gardens provide a great background for a lazy stroll. The wall gardens and water features are particularly calming. There's a great play area for kids and lots to explore. Great facilities and a pleasant cafe. The garden centre is well stocked.
C. P.
Saw the programme on the BBC which prompted the visit. A beautiful place, well thought out even though still expanding. Something for everyone. Also had a free tour which was a nice surprise. Well worth a visit
J. L.
First visit - lovely variety of gardens &
beautiful planting. I especially loved the Paradise garden. Cafe queue was awful so we didn't bother staying for lunch!
R. H.
Lovely place to visit on an extended weekend. Accommodating staff and gorgeous gardens. Especially liked the Chinese garden. The cafe was great and the peach cake was delicious! Hope to return again next summer and also go back to the garden centre shop as the plants were excellent value!
T. A. A.
I'm a Blue Badge holder and was pleased to see a good number of dedicated spaces available.
The entrance foyer is open and spacious and the toilets are easy to access and spotless.
I visited with my daughter and paid £24 to access the gardens. I believe I could've bought and annual membership for less than £50 (covers the member and 1 guest for unlimited visits) and on reflection, I should've opted for this.
The gardens are still being developed but there's plenty to see and the landscaping around the water is stunning.
We enjoyed a very peaceful walk and made good use of the benches that are plentiful.
There was a huge winding queue at the cafe which we decided against. (This was on a relatively quiet day too.)
I also thought the garden centre was a little pricey but the indoor shop had a good selection of gifts with affordable treats for children.
Well worth a visit.
E. D.
Beautiful, beautiful place. Gorgeous planting, gorgeous design, fabulous food in the lovely cafe and the most wonderful shop. Ticks all my boxes. Love it here ❤
P. B.
Lovely to see how it's coming on after its opening. The borders are full and the colour pallette is gorgeous. You have pleasant walks in the woods and meadows to the mere. You can imagine the ormer house up on the hill. Walk down to the Bridgewater canal towpath. Very enjoyable on a sunny day.
A. H.
Visited for the first time today. RHS Bridgewater is my third RHS garden, they are all so different, but Bridgewater is amazing in its own right.
I loved seeing everything still coming together, it makes me excited about future visits to see the changes (mostly the lake and the Chinese streamside garden). Also the autumnal colours were stunning!
The woodland play area looks like great fun for children, the walled gardens were beautiful and will be even more stunning in the spring and summer. The garden centre and shop aren't too big or overwhelming so you do have time to get round them after going round the garden.
N. I.
Lovely garden second visit best to go in summer more to see the only bad thing is the wildflower meadow there were no wildflower it was just grass
H. W.
This is a relatively new garden, only been open for a year or so. There is still loads to see including herbaceous beds, woodlands, steam gardens and a wildflower meadow. There's plenty of facilities including 2 lot's of toilets, cafe and garden information point. The car park is massive and has electric car charging points.
A. “. &. P. o. T. D.
Latest RHS garden, lovely place to visit that will only get better with time. Many different areas and walks to do. Walled garden, woodland children's play area, Chinese garden, and woodland walk around lake just a few.
Disability access is very good for all, few steps there are are marked on map. Scooters can be hired but pre booking highly reccomended, I used my own. All paths are suitable for scooters, wheelchairs etc.
Highly reccomended.
Advance booking is requested by RHS Bridgewater.
J. W.
Visited over the weekend not really knowing what to expect. But I have nothing but praise for the place. A lot of the planting is in its infancy but the amount of work undertaken is remarkable. It's immaculate and well worth a visit. There is a play area for children and the facilities are first class.
I. J.
Plenty to see even in late winter. Worth visiting just to see the roof truss in visitors centre. Welly boots required for the woodland play area but plenty of space for hide & seek for kids of all ages
D. B.
Please like if helpful👍
Thought we'd just go and check things out before booking for a visit in the gardens. I'm very impressed with all the facilities I've seen so far. Good car parking facilities with plenty of disabled spaces close to the main building. Inside is a garden centre with an attractive gift shop with a varied selection of really nice items for sale, then a large café with plenty of seating and choice of snacks, beyond which is the semi covered outdoor garden centre selling plants, bushes and garden implements.
Based on what I've seen I imagine the park itself will be superb and I shall be booking asap.
K. M.
Lovely gardens which are well worth a visit and will look even better as the plants grow and develop. The modern entrance building is very well designed and fits beautifully into the landscape. We enjoyed a drink and snack on the cafe terrace, which overlooks a pond, and had a lovely walk around the walled garden and Japanese inspired water garden.
V. C.
Beautiful relaxing gardens with plenty to see. It was good to see plenty of benches. I liked seeing the plant name labels. I am looking forward to when they have developed their Chinese garden. Lovely bright airy main building, but I was really surprised by how narrow the entrance to the ladies toilets was - bit of a squeeze when people are washing their hands on one side and others want to come in. It was a busy day though, so plenty of visitors (to the gardens, not just the toilets!) Very helpful friendly staff. Will definitely visit again.
J. W.
Exceeded my expectations on size and variety. Still seems very new. Cafes good but very busy. So good we bought a membership
V. L.
A beautiful place to visit on a good sunny day. Variety of plants and flowers are well maintained. Had a lovely day with friends and family.
R. M.
Lovely space! (Aug 2022). Not enough coffee stops I think. More small 'pop-up' stands staggered across the site = happy adults = happy kids. I will update this on my next visit.
J. D.
We had a lovely day at RHS Bridgwater. The superbee experience was most disappointing. Our main reason for the visit. I hadn't realised it was aimed for small children. I'm sure the children enjoyed it. For the older ones and adults it was very disappointing.
The gardens were looking fabulous with the fantastic colour palate of the Alliums, Geum and Iris just to mention a few. My plant app was well used as there are hardly any identification tags. I'm hoping, going forward, that more will be introduced.
The cafe was heaving so we had a coffee outside. The latte/Americano coffee was very good, the tray bake was disappointing. For £4 its something i won't be bothering with next time.
I do like the generous placements of seating around the gardens. It was lovely to sit and be surrounded with beautiful coloured plants. It wasn't too busy so we could wander around happily.
A lovely day out and we'll be visiting again soon.
A. T.
This is the place to be when the weather is good and sunny. I got the car-free discount ticket as I travelled there by bus. The staff were very helpful and the gift shop also had a great variety of interesting items. The restaurant cafe also serves delicious food.
D. B.
My first time visiting and i thoroughly enjoyed my day, with wall to wall beautiful gardens with many varieties of plants and flower species. Gardeners paradise and photographers delight. It doesnt ended there, smaller individual gardens with specific designs. Woodland areas with large family size swings, to ease weary legs or to chill out on a summers day like today. There is so much to mention but what fascinated me where the small water features around the lake...very cooling and relaxing...
The Cafe was a godsend on a hot day, even though didnt partake in the food served, which all looked delicious and fresh, but a nice cuppa was welcomed after a long day...of which a garden centre was attached as well as gift shop. Plenty of items for sale, quality items at that.....
Staff were very friendly and polite, very welcoming and deserve praise...
love to go here again sometime.
T. B.
Lovely gardens, beautiful flowers alot of work has gone into the landscaping here in a short space of time, so all credit to those doing it. There is a lovely cafe overlooking the lake and a small garden centre. Plenty of parking. It's not cheap but a nice experience
J. W.
Beautiful gardens, very tranquil enhanced by the various water features.
On a hot day like today there's lots of shade which is lovely to wander through.
A. H. M.
What a great place! Really enjoyed the walk with family, around the gardens, the lake, the bridges. This place is really idyllic and peaceful.
J. T.
We enjoyed our visit to this new garden which is impressively maintained and very beautiful.
The planting schemes in the walled garden along with the water features invited a slow stroll.
Walking to the lake through the Chinese garden which is under construction was peaceful.
Plant prices in the shop were very expensive even when compared to garden centre prices.
Allow about 3 hours for a leisurely visit.
T. S.
Very lovely place to visit does get busy , not many litter bins the further you go out , still lots to do in the gardens plus some children and parents don't know how to read and ignore the signs otherwise beautiful place.
s. e.
A spectacular garden! You'd find a great range of exotic flowers and vegetables gardens, lakes, woodland areas, garden centre, gift shop as well as a cafe with indoor and outdoor seating areas and multiple coffee carts. You'd need to book your tickets in advance and it's quite busy, but it's so worth it. I'd definitely love to go again.
P. Y.
Fabulous to have the fifth RHS garden on my doorstep and this is my second visit. I am clinically vulnerable but they made this a safe experience for me. Staff are friendly and courteous. The garden is a triumph of planned informality and well in tune with the fashionable cottage garden style. Millions of bees are attracted to the riot of colour. The lake is wonderful to walk around and plenty of benches for resting and picnicking. Looking forward to seeing it evolve.
P. W.
Very relaxing tranquil place. We go regularly for a relaxing walk around the gardens as well as coffee & cake of course..
P. W.
Very impressed with how well established the Weston Walled Garden is and the Chinese water garden is getting there. A beautiful day, very good disabled access and lots of seats/areas of shade to enjoy the views. Fabulous buildings and cafe, fab views over the lake when you're having your cream tea!
B. D.
Brilliant afternoon, well kept gardens.
Worth a visit.
Just one complaint, the flowers and plants need name tags for identification.
Some photos in winter, still nice but different
R.
Absolutely beautiful. You could spend hours here just walking around and looking at all the nature, wildlife, flowers and taking in the scenery views.
I would highly recommend visiting, we visited here yesterday and we had such a fantastic afternoon, we will definitely be visiting again in the near future.
E.
Lovely place to visit for a day out , lots of seating areas and grass areas to have a picnic, looking forward to going back when the Chinese gardens are more established, also no bins for rubbish when walking round so you would have to carry it with you.
P. S.
Wonderful safe pathways. Although not complete it is already stunning. Will be interesting to visit again in a year or so to see further developments.
l. g.
It's a privilege to have an rhs garden on your door step. The planting is obviously recent but very modern in style. No Rose beds or parks department bedding.
There's ample parking, a few different places to get drinks etc. Although the queue in the main cafe was off-putting.
Lots of things in the shop and of course plants to buy.
Enjoy.
BTW the Chinese garden is lovely 😍
P. W.
My wife and I had seen the BBC2 documentary about RHS Bridgewater and we wanted to visit. It was great to see the gardens, areas and planting that we'd seen as part of the programme. It's a huge site and there are many outlying areas available for future development. It's not the finished article yet and we look forward to visiting again in another year or two to see the changes. The gardens are beautiful and the staff we spoke with were very friendly and knowledgeable. A fantastic day out.

Still early days, nevertheless plenty to look at, some nice specimens, labels clear and some lovely green spaces to walk through or sit in. national rhubarb collection underwhelming (it was May) but the chard was great. Lots to like. Feels a bit like a shopping centre with gardens or a top of the range service station, sounds a bit like it too being so close to the M60. Good cycle access off the canal, but no signage. Loads of bike racks (massively under-used) , disappointing how many millions of cars there were in the carpark. Oh and I wish they had properly plumbed in the UU rain garden.

This is a real favourite for me - I've been visiting once a month since last July with RHS membership making it a real bargain of a morning out. The gardens are easy to get to by public transport from the centre of Manchester (Stagecoach Bus No 34) and there's the option to walk up from Worsley via the Bridgewater Canal.
It's incredible to see how the gardens change between visits (seasonality) and also to see how the work is progressing to adapt and further develop the site. The Chinese Waterside Garden is going to be amazing though at the moment the Walled Gardens are my favourite. Love this place.
I have a lot of photos from my visits here but having trouble uploading them despite repeated attempts. Go visit, take a look and get your own shots. 😊

Spoiler alert! Image of entrance.. beautiful day and beautiful surroundings! Peacefully quiet. There is a lot knowledge within the gardens and I’d certainly recommend a guided tour if you can! Don’t forget to pick up a book upon entry (additional fees apply) lots of useful history about RHS Bridgewater.

Plenty of good quality parking. Was then met by a member of staff offering tours of parts of the garden. This time we chinese gardens. Very knowledgeable guide, lots of interesting information that we would have missed if we just walked through alone. Took about an hour.
This is our second visit we we particularly aimed to be there for lunch again in the main entry building. Good selection of mains, jackets, sanwiches and soup, plus cakes and pastries.
Baked potatoes with a variety of fillings £5 for 1 £6.50 for two, the pull pork is amazing. There was a couple of 'mains', a Harrisa lamb and an aubergine tagine and each was £10 and came with two sides of 4 (cauliflower, sweet potato couscous or greens. All very nice and really well cooked and plenty of it offeing good value for money.
Generally they need to sort the throughput of the catering outlets. Probably need a bit more information about the various offers in entry.
Had a good day, stayed about 3 to 4 hours. Probably need to go back as the seasons progress to see the development winter months may be a bit challenging with the weather.
There is Still lots to be developed and as with any garden this is going to take time, but when it is on the scale of 120 acres is just massive. Keep it up and will be back
B. D.
We were invited back for free entry, having been to the Bridgewater Glow.
This was our 3rd visit.
Excellent, even nice in winter

A new RHS garden with masses of potential. Still undergoing work but well worth a visit. It will be great to watch it evolve over the coming years.
They have achieved so much since acquiring the property, well done to all involved. We will definitely be visiting again.
M. L.
Second visit today and what an amazing place this is. They have obviously got some bad reviews in the past for mistakes they made but this is a great spot now for the local community and tourist as well. Great selection of plants, great cafe, great shop and what a good walk today. Well done
B. D.
Outstanding garden. Only 1 year after opening and it is beautiful. Not a traditional country house garden but all the better for it. Ample parking
J. C.
A wonderful garden with so much potential. A very relaxing visit. Greeted by friendly and approachable staff. Clear signposting throughout. Good car parking facilities. Loved the catus exhibition that was being held during visit. Looking forward to visiting again and seeing how Bridgewater expands and flourishes over the years.

We recently visited Bridgewater and enjoyed it for the most part. Booking ahead is recommended and arrival close to opening time means you're shown to a parking lane by marshals. Upon entry to the main building there is a shop, toilets, cafe and coffee bar. Turn right to go through the shop, past that is the cafe and then the garden centre. The shop is very large and has to adhere to Sunday trading laws so bare that in mind when visiting on a weekend. The cafe can get very busy, so it's worth eating before entering the gardens. The food in the cafe is good quality and caters for most diets, with indoor and outdoors seating next to a pleasant lake. If you want to skip the queue and only want coffee and cake, there is a small coffee bar hidden down near the garden centre. The garden centre is large, well stocked, but strangely didn't seem to have much in the line of garden ornaments. Back to the main entrance and you turn left to go into the gardens. The gardens give the impression they're not finished, but have plenty of plants and flowers to look at if they're your type of thing. There's also a small refreshments caravan in the gardens if you don't want to queue in the cafe. Past the gardens is a large kids playground in the woods, with a view over a small pig farm. The worst bit of Bridgewater for me was the woodland walk after the kids playground. Whilst it's nice, it's mostly trees and weeds with a few iron fences marking the boundary thrown in. As someone who loves nature and the outdoors, it's just not that interesting and a little dull. Lastly, due to the proximity to a local airfield, the constant noise of light aircraft overhead can be a distraction for those wanting a quiet day out. Compared to other RHS locations, Bridgewater feels a little more busy and less serene. Hopefully they will improve the woodland walk and it would feel a more complete package for a day out.
S. R. M.
Just a lovely place and I don’t like gardens , shop and restaurant are expensive bring a packed lunch or plenty of cafes nearby and excellent pubs
B. F.
We'd been looking forward to visiting the garden since hearing about its development. Having read online reviews we took a picnic to eat in the car before we went in. It proved to be a really good idea as the catering is inadequate even for the present number of visitors.
The visitors' area is lovely and airy, with a cafe, shop and plant centre. Just outside there are lovely curving paths around beds which are still very colourful in late August.
At present the developed garden is mainly within the massive walled garden.
Much of the planting is very attractive with lots of prairie style planting to reflect changing weather patterns. We both felt that the RHS could have gone for a more innovative design rather than sticking to the traditional straight line layout. Also, some sort of high level viewing platform would really enhance a visit, as the area is very flat.
Before leaving we decided to have a cuppa, but were directed to a counter where we got overpriced tea in cardboard cups. Despite the fact that the carpark was half empty there were still long queues for refreshments.
Our local RHS garden is Harlow Carr. I think it will remain our preference for a day visit.
D. A.
A fantastic garden relaxing walk and such beautiful flowers. Great for taking photos. Will defo visit again.
T.
Gardens are so lovely, really accessible. Food from the cafe was amazing but both times I've gone it's been a huge que. Once breakfast is over they don't start serving and lunch until 11.50 so there's an awkward half an hour where all you can buy is scones, Crisps or beverages.
S. J.
With Gran in their pre booked hired mobility scooter and teenagers, i didn't have much hope for a fun day..but I was wrong. Every turn had something new to offer. We covered most of the garden and the very busy but well ordered cafe...super cakes.. you could have full meals. Later had tea outside from little cafe hut. Gardens are young atm but with the help of our knowledgeable Gran we could visualize the long term plan.
We all hope to visit again in a year or two so see the next stage.
Great Alice in Wonderlands trail for kids. I couldn't resist some Mad Hatter's tea party gifts from their beautiful gift shop. I must save up before our next visit.
Advice - book everything you may need before you go,if going with elderly, as it was very busy. However, they had effective systems in place to make us feel there's enough space etc for everyone. Well trained and good natured staff.
S.
Easy to park with a beautiful sympathetic building for lunch and shopping. I imagine that the garden will improve over time, as many beds were empty with the Chinese garden looking very weedy. Strange as it is so new. Some of the features in the Walled garden (climbing plant support structures) were really ugly and needed explanation as that may have helped understanding of the thought process behind them. My favourite part of the garden is the area between the walled garden and Chinese garden, which is full of grasses and herbaceous perennials in they style of Piet Oudolph.
S. P.
Beautiful gardens, brilliant outdoor playground for the kids. Had a lovely day. 😍
m. t.
Superb new local ( to me ) attraction. I was expecting the gardens to not be very mature as it's not long been open, but they aren't and there's plenty of colour to see.
Very hot day so I would advise taking water and also insect repellent as the horseflies will get you !
Really nice restaurant, we had breakfast and lunch both very tasty at a reasonable price. Shop is really nice as is the garden shop, both are well stocked with quality products.
A. P.
Really lovely visit to the new RHS garden. It will be glorious when some of the plants have taken a bit more and spread, but it's worth a visit now for sure! Pathways are well set up, and set out, with lots of benches dotted around for rests and to enjoy the surroundings.
The lake and water features were a particular highlight, along with the brilliant play spaces for children.
Facilities were good, plenty of parking, and the cafe and shop area is well spaced and stocked.
Staff were friendly and helpful.
J. C.
Large gardens with lots of interest for small kids (hide and seek around the formal gardens, exploring the rougher woodland and streams, playgrounds, scheduled activities). The storytelling and food in the cafe were particular highlights.
Not easy to get to by public transport which is a shame, although they do encourage you to do so with a discounted ticket.
D. S.
My first visit but it won't be my last. Absolutely beautiful gardens. I came away bursting with ideas and inspiration for my own garden.
B. L.
Was a very interesting afternoon. Took the
free tour of the walled garden. The restaurant was very clean although a little expensive. Very easy to get to from Oldham area. The photos are of the Chinese stream area.
C. S. L. H. R.
Finally traversed the Pennines to go and prowl around this newbie site. All very welcoming staff and very efficient system. You have to book online for all visits. Plenty of car parking. Open every day except Christmas Day. Guide and support dogs allowed in the garden. There's a lot of land to explore with varying terrains, including woodland walks, wildflower meadows, lakeside walks and lots of colorful borders and beds, in particular in the Kitchen and Paradise Gardens. An orchard, greenhouses, displays, exhibitions, community gardens et al. Lots of benches to plonk yourself on. Lots of water features and wildlife areas. The paths are good and easily accessible. Café, shop and restaurant. The gardens are still getting established and some areas are in their infancy but worth a visit.
J. S.
Lovely afternoon spent here. The walled gardens and the Japanese inspired area was beautiful but so many stunning floral displays throughout the site already, which was pretty impressive as it has only recently opened. Great adventure play area for children with picnic benches situated close by. The cafe has ample outdoor seating that overlooks the lake. Indoor seating also available. Great gift shop. Good value for money at £11 per person.
C. S.
Brilliant day out in the gardens, Lovely Knowledgeable and Helpful staff. Enjoyed it so much I subscribed to a years free entry’s. Now booked in for the Chelsea flower show too.
J. G.
Beautiful walled gardens and water rills...loved the colourful architectural planting...good parking and cafes...well worth a visit
V. H.
Met my friends for a coffee. We decided to go around the garden. Wow what an absolute treat. Absolutely beautiful place.
A. H.
Our first visit and it's such a wonderful place. Can't wait to return in a few weeks to see more flowers out!
J. L.
Fantastic day out, lovely walk round the grounds then into the incredible walled garden, great shop too 👍
C. A.
This was out first visit and maybe our expectations were too high. While it was an enjoyable visit and you could see the amount of work that had gone in we left feeling a little underwhelmed. Maybe we need to give it time to mature so we will try to return in a few years and reassess. Refreshment facilities were sadly lacking compared to other RHS gardens
J. C.
Pleasant garden experience, diversity of plant species for RHS a little average, take a picnic lunch as the queues are impossible. They need a couple of icecream stands.
S. R.
Heard alot about this place
Booked online day before
34 for 3 of us
However was disappointing because none of the plants were out or flowering yet
Would deffo advise to go in summer
As all you could see was woods and water
Cafe was nice in lakeside location
Garden ctre nice too
But considering i went for gardens one would think there would be some flowers!
J. E.
What a brilliant experience. Loved it and easily accessible for my mum in law who has mobility issues...she loved it too!
E. C.
An absolute gem of a place. Our guide on two of the tours we went on was first class. Hope have the opportunity to go back one day.
R. M.
Busy but efficient welcome / ticket check. Plants looking very healthy despite heatwave. Staff friendly and helpful.
j. a.
First time visiting since opening, very impressed, beautiful landscaped gardens with pretty flowers and stunning plants and trees. This place will get better each year.
Plenty of seating for those who have to rest or just to sit back and enjoy the views. A welcoming large pond to cool off your feet on the day I visited, not sure it was intended for that but at 31 degrees I'm sure this was ok 😊
There is a large cafe with terrace overlooking a small lake with plenty of seating and also seating inside.
The garden centre is a decent size and well stocked and also there is a gift shop stocking some lovely items.
Thoroughly worth the visit.
I'll be popping back, just hope I'm lucky with the weather again
E. J.
Beautifully designed gardens with plenty of seating. The gardens are well maintained to a high standard and have unusual plants. It is becoming one if my favourite places.
The shop is varied and good to explore. They have a good choice of plants to purchase but there is a fast turn over of stock due to its business.
The cafe is very busy most of the day and the queues can be long. However they are building an additional cafe. The food us worth it though.
S. W.
We thoroughly enjoyed our day out. Considering the gardens were only put in a couple years ago, the place looks really well established and is teeming with wildlife. My mother had a bad knee and had no issues with accessibility, with plenty of places to rest as we made our way round the gardens
M. M.
Stunning place, it's amazing to think its just opened, parts of it look like it's been there years. It huge and the walled gardens are spectacular.
Would love to go again and would highly recommend
C. W.
Had a lovely sunny day there, had a nice lunch in the cafe first, looked around the garden centre. Saw this place on TV this year when it was being turned back into is former glory around 2018, then covid came and put the revamp on hold, our grandson has just finished his horticulture exams at York college, he said he would like to go, so we were not dissapointed it was a lovely day out and the gardens are lovely, looking forward to going again in a few years time, but around June time as there will be more colour.
C.
Really nice grounds but the gardens were a bit lacking, very few plants, it was winter but other rhs gardens have plants for all seasons, no doubt it will improve as time goes on, the longer it's open, would go again though, lovely walk around the site and nice shop and garden centre.
A. B.
What a beautiful place, steeped in history with an array of plants, flowers, shrubs, trees fruit and vegetables. Spacious main building including shop, restaurant and garden centre with a great selection to choose from. Wheelchair and pushchair accessible walks, with a great playground for the kids to have fun. Great little café trailers dotted around for a pit stop, dont forget to indulge in some cakes. As an RHS member, we'll definitely be back soon. Looking forward to the development of phase 2.
P. F.
What an amazing place. Beautiful planting and such a lot of interesting plants to keep any gardener redesigning their own patch of green. The children play areas in the forest are magical. The Alice in Wonderland theme is also a great way to occupy the young and old alike. The Chinese water garden rippling down from the upper lake is so beautiful and serene. Food was good, plant centre impossible to resist and the staff were delightful. Extremely highly recommended. Not overly expensive so definitely one for a day trip. We were there for 4 hours.
P. R.
Had a really nice time, we went as a couple but will bring our wheelchair user son as the layout is superbly accessible. Also got a changing rooms toilet. Beautiful gardens of course. Lovely food choices in cafe.
L. O.
The garden is still in its infancy. But was very beautiful. The staff were very helpful and respectful.
A. C.
Nice place to visit, we had a good walk round in 2 & 1/2 hours znd there was more to see. The whole garden is massive and there are still areas under development. Will definitely come back to see it next year in bloom. The kids play area is massive and there is plenty to entertainment the ones who will not be interested in strolling. I think it's a fair enough price. If you visit and get round the whole garden it's at good day out.
G. A.
What a transformation from just a few months ago. The staff and volunteers certainly work extremely hard to ensure the Gardens are kept to such a high standard.
Try ( lunch at 2.30pm is fairly quiet; almost no queue at aļl) the Pork and Fennel sausage roll , it was fantastic ! There are other options to choose from, including numerous salads; Quinoa an feta cheese was my choice and it was superb!
Bridgewater Gardens is a definite asset to Salford and it's residents. Whether you pop in just for coffee and cake 🍰🍰🍰.
Don't forget that you still have to pre book a visit but do check the RHS website for details.
A. P.
I enjoyed the garden but I recommend a visit later on in spring or summer to actually enjoy it.
For what I paid, I think it was a tiny bit overpriced.
R. H.
It's a relatively new garden that has loads of promise. Some areas are great, notably the walled garden, but some other parts clearly are still being developed. I know I went on a hot day but there needs to be more seats as you walk around. Seemed odd that there was no ice available for drinks in the cafes. Staff are friendly and helpful, car parking and entry are easy. I look forward to going again in a little while.
M. B.
I have been following this project with great interest over the last couple of years. The gardens didn't disappoint, albeit that it is early days and the works are still in progress. Looking forward to a regular annual visit to see the progress.
However, the catering was a joke. Looking forward to a nice lunch, but queued for 30 minutes to get a jacket potato & beans and a hot pie, that was actually cold 🤢.
I would recommend you visit, but bring your own picnic!
C. L.
Beautiful natural planting, loved kitchen gardens, paradise and Chinese gardens. Still a work in progress but definitely worth a visit. Will be interesting to see it develop over the next few years.
S. H.
I'd been looking forward to this new garden for a few years, since the RHS announced it. A derelict garden and land has been re designed at this initial stage. The walled gardens have been restored and the layout changed. There are lots of vegetables and decorative plants. The water features are well thought out and bring a lovely feel and sound to the Gardens.
The woodland and reservoir look great with pathways through. The play area is well thought out for children. There are wooden adventure play installations as well as a fairy homes area and even a small outdoor kitchen!
The Chinese water gardens are relaxing and well built with a pathway that crosses over the water course in an "S" shape.
Plenty to see, you could spend the best part of the day. Lots of areas to picnic. The visitor centre has a café and outside seating next to the new lake. There is a large gift shop with all sorts including plenty of really nice books.
I can't wait to see this garden and place develop over time!
D. “. B.
RHS latest new Gardens built from scratch. Very interesting day. Gardens are still under development and may take some years to reach full potential. Staff are excellent. More drink/food outlets provided across site by mobile facilities. Main Welcome building is worth a visit, take time to look up at the structural form. Plenty to see and do across the whole Gardens.
D. J.
From the first approach to the garden past banks of wild flowers to the impressive Welcome Building with spacious airy interior and well stocked shop, including plant sales, and cafe with terrace overlooking a lake, the garden itself then becomes the focal point. Considering this was a large and derelict, overgrown area previously, the transformation to a beautiful walled garden with neat, firm, stone chipped paths which are ideal for wheelchair users, immaculate beds of vegetables, herbs and flowers is truly remarkable and a tribute to the hard work of everyone involved. There are other areas of the garden to see and even more planned. I will definitely be back on a regular basis. Highly recommended.
A. B.
The sun was shining the gardens were amazing, delphiniums absolutely outstanding, loved the wild sections can't wait to see the Japanese gardens eventually established
B. P.
Plan your visit. The gardens are still establishing themselves - which is not to be surprised. All eating establishments were very busy.
I would recommend arriving as early as possible-especially if you need a disabled parking place as there are not enough provided-and the garden is not as busy at opening.
Overall - showing promise but needing some tweaks to be perfect
J. W.
Some work still to be done on the original garden buildings, and some plants are not yet fully established. Still well worth a visit. My only concern is the red steel pergolas, which in my opinion should be replaced with smaller versions in hardwood.
M. B.
Beautiful gardens. I went with my daughter who is a member and granddaughter. Was a lovely few hours walking around the well maintained grounds. We also visited the main restaurant and has a lovely lunch too. I can't wait to visit in the summer now.
R. G.
Beautiful gardens with lake to walk round and natural playground. Gorgeous visitor centre, ample parking including plenty of disabled spaces. Whole site is mobility impaired/ wheelchair/ pram/ child friendly. You can even borrow robust wheelchairs at the entrance. Staff are so friendly and helpful, gift shop sells lovely products. Lovely, reasonably priced nursery to shop in too. Can't recommend this attraction enough.
A. B.
Beautifully laid out garden with a great mix of woodland, wildflowers, landscaped and walled gardens. The children's woodland play is excellent, an only really lacking a slide but the natural activities more than make up for that! The gardens mix nature with history brilliantly. Excellent experience.
Note that bits of the garden are still in construction/growing.
L. P.
Really great visit, lovely peaceful garden. Tasty food in the cafe and its nice that you can sit out by the lake, though you do generally have to queue for a little while for the cafe. There are other places to get a drink inside the garden. Loads of parking. Definitely worth a visit if you like gardens.
A. R.
The gardens have matured now and there are stunning displays particularly in the walled garden. There were long queues for food at the main cafe but its possible to get a coffee or pizza at other venues.
L. C.
Newly opened garden. A garden with a beautiful layout. The welcome building and surrounding area was stunning. The planting was gorgeous. The walled gardens with rills and water features were beautiful and very serene. Lots of seating throughout the estate, enabling you to take in the stunning surroundings. Large cafe and shop another draw to this garden. A good day out. This garden will peak as the gardens grow and mature and the other planned areas are developed.
Well worth a visit.
D.
This garden is lovely! Lucky to have such a great addition to Greater Manchester. The area is huge; favourite garden was the Paradise one. Took away some good planting inspiration.
K. R.
Lovely day out with the added advantage of the wonderful sunshine!! The walled gardens were stunning, the plants exquisite. We took a picnic but there could have been more picnic benches/areas in my opinion, there was only one picnic area marked on the map that was given to us when we booked in, which was situated in the children's play area, but walking round after our lunch we discovered a couple of benches at the back of the Shepherds Hunt Cafe, which incidentally was closed which seemed rather strange on a busy Sunday.
I. A.
Whilst we enjoyed our trip to RHS Bridgewater you need to bear in mind that this garden is only a year old and is still in development. Having said that, most of the walled garden areas are looking good, the woods and the area around the lake are taking shape and there seems to be plenty to interest the kids. The welcome center is very good and all the hard landscaping is in place making it an easy enjoyable walk around the various elements of the gardens. They are developing a Chinese garden at the moment which promises to be stunning.
J. S.
Arrived early for access to the Gardens at 10am. A bright sunny day so perfect for admiring the planting, the grasses and the lovely tall purple flowers. Busy but not cramped. Children's Woodland area is spectacular as is the Scout Yew Tree circle. Brings back memories of my time camping with Girl Guides. The gardens change every time we visit, with growth and die back. Lovely family experience.
A. L.
Wonderful place to visit. Went on a family outing with my wife, baby daughter and mother and there is something for all of us. I can easily see myself visiting for educational purposes, mindfulness or just another lovely family day out.
Restrooms are evenly distributed throughout. There are plenty of places to stop and rest, plus some good spaces for picnic blankets - again spaces out well.
The cafe is delicious and there are some little vendors spread around.
Bring your card as a few places are card only
G. T.
First time visiting here and really enjoyed it. Never been to a RHS garden but was recommended by a friend. We booked online as suggested and when we arrived there were lots of parking spaces and no wait time to go into the garden. The site is massive and you can easily spend several hours here looking at all the different plants and trees and walking through all the different gardens. We were also given a map and there were lots of signs making it easy to find the different places. Throughout the site there were lots of places to sit down and relax and also places you could get drinks or food. One thing that could have been a bit better is the signage of plants and trees. Some of them were labelled up but quite a few were not it would also be nice if there was some information about certain plants that you could read. At the end there is a gift shop and garden centre where you can buy lots of products. The only negative about this is that the prices are quite expensive. Would highly recommend this place and would definitely visit again.
J. C.
Nice and relaxing day wandering around the garden. You need to book a time slot to enter but there wasn't much of a queue. The staff were friendly and helpful and there's plenty of car parking spaces.
Its quite new so there are a few areas where the planting isn't finished and some if the outbuildings have restricted numbers allowed due to covid but the walled garden was nicely restored and looked good.
Information boards around the lake etc and in the outbuildings to tell the history of the estate and the restoration process.
The food in the cafe was a bit on the dear side but on par with similar places, there are picnic benches around near the childrens play area if you want to bring your own.
We liked it so much we actually joined up on the day so we will definitely be back to see how it develops over the seasons.
P. J.
Wonderful day out, beautiful plants and flowers, the walled and Paradise gardens are amazing and it's so nice to see this new RHS Garden at the beginning of its life, having only opened in May. It's not expensive compared to other gardens and there are lovely woodland walks as well as the Alice in Wonderland trail. We sadly didn't see the 6 pigs which live there (must have been snoozing in the shade somewhere) but the history of the place is fascinating and well documented especially in the Lottery funded pottery sheds where we also glimpsed a swallow diving in and out feeding her chicks up in the rafters, which was an added delight. The only negative is that they need to sort out the queues in the café into those waiting for hot food & those just wanting drinks. Otherwise, a perfect day.
S. Z.
Not as interested place as other RHS gardens but well maintained and perfect place to spend an hour or two. Quite close to city centre as well.
a. g.
What a beautiful place. First time we've been and not disappointed. Loved the walled garden and the lake with the details of what it used to be like. Lots of seats to take in the views. Shame not much shade on such a hot sunny day but think this will get better as the gardens get more established. Lovely cafe and shop.
A. H.
Beautiful gardens and hot food in cafe very good and homemade as was the lovely scone
S.
Beautiful gardens, friendly staff, busy cafe and unusual shopping, what's not to love? We will return. Garden tour with Lesley recommended too! RHS magic in Worsley ✔
S. W.
Visited on opening day. Lots of helpful staff signposting you in a friendly and organised manner. Really impressive sight overall, so much to look forward to in terms of seeing the growth of the gardens. There's a woodland play area for kids. The food in the bistro cafe is of great quality, the cakes are wonderful. If you can get a table outside overlooking the pond it is a real treat. Great shop with lots of beautiful things. Ample parking. Accessible entrance.
J.
Lovely day out, the Chinese gardens aren't finished being built yet but I think they'll be lovely when they are. The walled garden was beautiful and very relaxing. If you're a student the rhs student deal is amazing and something definitely worth looking into
I. W.
Huge gardens that needs a few visits to fully explore. Loved the woodlands section which is great for the kids and having a picnic. The walled gardens were beautiful too.
My only criticism was the café was so busy that we didn't get chance to eat lunch there and ended up leaving and going somewhere else. I understand there's a new cafe opening later in 2022 so this should help.
L.
Lovely place to visit! Lots of seating for coffee shop and a lovely gift shop. The building is beautiful. Garden centre has a great selection of plants but could do with more staff on hand to help with customer questions. Didn't visit the actual gardens but will do next time!
O. P.
Everything is as beautiful as it appears on RHS website. Very busy this month. Be prepared for a long Queue for lunch. Tasty pies, but vegetables & salads cost extra. Good quality but a bit pricey. Great little ice cream, coffee & cake caravan in grounds. Lots of benches amongst flowerbeds, sit and enjoy! Shortage of litter bins around the grounds. But, overall, a great day out.
M. A.
Beautiful park with so many gorgeous and colourful flowers.
Could do with some more benches around the park.
R. G.
Beautiful place so well done and so many lovely plants, flowers, trees. Clear signs and great paths for people, push chairs, wheelchairs etc. I now have a yearly pass and don't live fair so I will be visiting and popping in all year. Food and coffee from the cafe was lovely for myself and my sister. Staff were great and very welcoming and helpful. Shop look amazing and very thoughtfully laid out I had to pull myself away before spending money.
L. V.
Great gardens to walk around and plenty to see. We also had an excellent guide. There is a restaurant serving hot food etc and also a tea shop in the main building.
Outside in the gardens there is a further restaurant selling the most deliciously pizzas I have ever eaten and a separate stall selling teas and coffees. All in all a great day out.
R.
Lovely afternoon, worth £12 for the day but will be much better in a few years when it is more grown in.
S. C.
Still work in progress ( as expected ), but well worth a visit. Lots of free parking, some fantastic displays, and the history of the place is brought to life through displays and video presentations..
J. P.
Fantastic place to visit for all ages. Beautiful gardens. Well stocked shop and plant centre. Lovely coffee shop serving beautifully presented and tasty food. Knowledgeable and friendly staff.
c. w.
Wonderful day out
Well done to everyone involved
So much hard work has gone into making it a such a lovely place
Be very proud of yourselves
We were there from 11.30 till 4.45 apart from one hour
Just 3 niggles
Had to go to a pub for lunch cos the cafe queue would have taken 90 minutes
Too few blue badge spaces-had to get dad in his wheelchair before parking in a normal space
Plant labelling would be good
A. T.
Amazing space and visitor attraction. All the family loved it and lots to explore to ensure there is always more to see. I’m not sure who doesn’t give it 5 stars as although not yet mature when is a garden ever finished? Crucially the coffee is top notch and not the usual watery stuff you get at visitor attractions, proper grinder and machine in use.

Absolutely stunning. I can't praise RHS highly enough for this new addition to the fold. Wonderful design, planting and ambition. Fantastic facilities (cafe a bit over priced & huge queues so would advise taking your own food) and lovely staff. Can't wait to visit again in Spring. Bravo RHS.
C. D.
It's a lovely space but felt the gardens were very repetitive with the same few plants replicated over large areas. I expected more variety.
The children's play area was brilliant.
Cafe was OK, food nice but the queue was extremely long.
F. M.
I enjoyed a lovely afternoon at this site. Plenty to see in the gardens, it's a large site with something for everyone. Also there is a great garden centre, a cafe and the classic RHS shop, on site.
G. B.
All round a very impressive place to visit, especially has it has only really been planted up for a few years. Good free car parking, great entrance hall that also combines a restaurant with good seating inside and outside, that overlooking a lake and fields. Grounds have several different garden sections with the only minor niggle is the lack of plant identification tags so take your own phone app to help.
K. R.
Very lucky to be close to a RHS garden. Great potential for this great garden only in its infancy, for now
S. T.
Fantastic new RHS garden in former grounds of Worsley New Hall, which sadly is no longer there. Visited in the first weeks of opening and the cafe/restaurant was chaotic with huge queues at lunch time. It has not been thought out or planned very well, as it is right in the middle of the shop area and garden centre, with the queue going all round the indoor seats! The garden however is fantastic, especially the massive walled garden and we loved the woods with the renovated old lake.
D. L.
For just a short drive from Manchester City centre this is a lovely location. With it being such a new site alot of the plants need time to flourish and there are areas of the grounds that still need finishing but there are still nice gentle walks to do and a play area for children. Give it a couple years and the site will be top notch.
M. D.
Beautiful gardens, variety of flowers and perfect for families.
K. B.
Incredible set of gardens! There's a lot that's still unfinished and some quite tiny plants and trees (the place has only just opened) but it's all wonderful to see. You can imagine how it's going to look in the next year or so.
It's a wholesome day out, you're amongst plants in a large area - so if you're still a bit nervous about being around people (covid) this feels like a safe space to be in.
I've already booked my return visit! Looking forward to seeing each of the different seasons in bloom.
L. H.
Visited today for a special "walkies" with dogs. Despite the rain, there were lots of people enjoying the chance to see the gardens with their dogs.
The gardens are stunning, with different plants to see across the seasons.
Well worth booking. We would love more regular dates for dog walks.
A. Y.
Wonderful day out, it will be great to go back and see the gardens develop and mature.
a. b.
Lovely afternoon spent in the peaceful gardens, not too busy and the carrot cake was delicious! I look forward to returning many times over the years to watch the garden grow!
L. G.
Have watched the regional news showcase the transformation from wasteland to a beautiful and calming space ,thanks to the skill and dedication of experts and volunteers. It will not disappoint.
D. W.
An unbelievable day out in acres and acres of gardens and woodland. Showing off the best of every plant and tree you can think of and more! Fantastic walks through the gardens seeing the most colourful blooms and flowers then visiting the cafeteria in the new shop and reception area. Great parking and a true adventure for all the family whatever age you are.
R. C.
I visited for the first time a couple of week ago and I must say that this is a brilliant set of gardens. A large open and inviting space with lots to see. The food was also very nice, the staff were all pleasant, the plant shop was great with lots on offer.
H. H.
Although very new, plenty to see, really well kept and great if you enjoy flower photography. Great offer for membership if you live in the area. Have now visited more than once.
a. n.
An amazing place lot's too see, the weather wasn't the best but the coffee was good
D. D.
Fantastic experience here. Staff very attentive and maintaining social distancing rules, whilst processing everyone's tickets as quick as possible.
Gardens are beautiful and you can see the potential over the coming years as plants and trees mature, despite a lot still needing development or maturing, it is already a beautiful location.
The walled garden is absolutely stunning and a pleasure to wander through, and the Chinese River path is brilliant; slightly wild, thematic, but a pleasure to stroll down.
The cafe is excellent, despite rather high prices the quality of food is brilliant, so worth a treat, and there is a lot of quirky and interesting merchandise, stationary, bath products etc, as well as plants, pots and garden tools.
I can see us coming here many times more, good job!
J. C.
Eventhough the guests had pre booked their tickets, there was a very long queue entering the main building to exchange your email or confirmation to get a receipt to be checked again at the entrance to the gardens.
This is a beautiful place and spend a few hours looking the vast variety of flowers, shrubs, trees, fruit trees and vegetables. Lovely water features.
Although the garden was only opened in early summer. There wasn't enough beverage stalls or smaller cafes on this huge site, there was only one restaurant in the main building and there were queues wrapped around the restaurant.
M. P.
I would have given 5 stars and certainly, were this a review purely of the garden it would merit that. The RHS and their volunteers have done a fantastic job with the garden it really is stunning. The jewel in the crown for me was the walled garden with its water features and herbaceous planting. So why 4 stars? Well this is for the place as a whole, which means I have to include the welcome centre restaurant which is, well, for me pretty dire. The food itself is nice enough, (although both of us in my party had a pie that endlessly repeated all day,) but the choice was, how shall I say, both limited and probably for a more youthful clientele. Certainly they have pies available, but chips? Oh no, that doesn't fit in as it's doubtlessly too unhealthy and we all know we have to be told what we MUST eat as we are all too dim to be allowed free will, although if you're vegan you'll be well catered for. The available accompaniments included some pretty insipid looking boiled rice and an assortment of vegetables that I would challenge anyone to find appealing. Even the customer in front of us who had something as simple as a baked potato with beans looked pretty unimpressed by what was served up. It's sad that this lets things down as dining at places like Harlow Carr and Hyde Hall is an infinitely more pleasant experience. By all means visit the gardens, which I recommend whole heartedly, but if you're peckish I'd go elsewhere.
F. W.
What a wonderful place for a day out, fabulous gardens , great play areas for kids, excellent cafes.
W. R.
Fabulous day exploring with the family, lots of exciting places for children to explore. I enjoyed seeing all the lovely flowers and varied ways they were displayed. There were lots of places to eat and drink but I little too expensive for a family. £5 for a tiny jacket potato with a sprinkling of cheese for my Granddaughter . Next time we will take a picnic.
R. A.
Loved it .. Charming to walk around spent a good 3 hours walking around the place ..Everything seemed soo much different with the different coloured lights on the plants .
P. F.
Very enjoyable first visit to Bridgewater. Very colourful borders and interesting social enterprise vegetable plots by local groups. Enjoyed the walk through the woods to the lake It will be interesting to see the onward development as plants grow and thrive and new areas are opened up over the years. Definitely a place to visit again and again.
L. C.
RHS Walkies at Bridgewater ws a lovely event. Beautiful surroundings with like minded dogs and their owners.
G. P.
Very nice day spent here, nice weather helps of course. Zoolabs where here showing and touching various creepy crawlies snake, giant slugs, rats and more. When it matures a bit more it would get all 5 stars.
J. B.
Wonderful gardens in beautiful setting. This will get better and better with each passing season.
Variety of gifts in the shop - tempting.
Delicious food in the cafe with great outdoor seating area by the lake
T. D.
We were only able to go for a few hours on the first visit but it's fantastic! Be warned though - it was very hot when we went and there is little shade in the walled garden areas so it was scorching. Consequently we spent more time outside in the woodland and by the lake.
The kids playground areas there are well thought out and with a large variety of activities for large & small alike.
The cafe was pretty busy and strangely didn't appear to sell ice creams (but I may have missed them). It has been more popular and far busier then the RHS expected so the car park and overflow and get pretty full - get there early!
The whole site is still in development so will doubtless improve over time.
S. D.
Bigger and more developed beds & displays than we'd expected so soon after opening. Beautiful flowers, been waiting soooo long for this to open right on my doorstep, so very happy. Lovely staff, cafe, shop, gardens wonderful.
M. B.
I would give more stars if I could. The gardens are stunning, beautifully laid out and wonderfully relaxing. There are seats everywhere so you can take your time walking round and if you find something that particularly appeals, you can sit down and take it all in. The cafe is lovely and the food is lovely. Definitely highly recommended.
k. h.
Our first visit today. Staff very friendly, plenty of parking. Gardens were beautiful and much larger than expected. An enjoyable day out.
L. B. C. A. (. B. A.
The gardens were full of interesting flowers, plants and vegetables despite the location only being a couple of years old. Highly recommend the guided tour of the walled garden when you arrive Very knowledgeable guides. Then you'll be free to wander at your own leisure.
L. D.
Great day out with beautiful planting. Huge variety with loads to look at. Great to have something so close to Manchester. Look forward to going back in a different season
S.
Lovely gardens and it has lots of potential.
The walled gardens are lovely. The plants are newly installed, so in 2022 they'll be much nicer.
The woods are still the be developed.. they look like the ground was cleared between the trees and then left for weeds to grow.
But in the woodland they have a few benches to enjoy the scenery.
Good to know:
Pretty much nowhere for shade or cover if it rains. Pebbly paths, so best to wear trainers. Also, some broken glass, but hopefully that's a one time thing..
Cafe. Limited supply of everything. Only hot drinks or cans (Coke, Fanta or vimto). No iced coffee. And limited cakes and no ice-cream.
The cafe has a lovely outside bit backing onto a lake.
Masks were worms by some..plus cleaning of the outside areas was a bit sporadic.
h. w.
A wonderful place to walk around, enjoying the beautiful plants and layout. Good selection of shops and a lovely cafe in the welcome building. A couple of outside places to get a coffee and a cake, then sit in the beautiful surroundings
J. F.
We had a wonderful afternoon here. It's really come on since we first visited last autumn. The variety of spaces and planting and the presence and use of so many water features (ponds, lakes, watercourses and waterfalls) is fabulous, providing interest for adults and entertainment for children. The play area in the woods is varied and challenging but also magical, and my grandchildren really enjoyed the visit.
B. F.
Loved our visit but needs a few weeks for planting to mature.
S.
Wonderful place to visit. Very accessible with very modern facilities, buildings, amenities. Very helpful, kind staff. Great place to visit with friends, family etc. Lots of places to eat and seats for resting and play areas. Lovely shop, some amazing things to purchase. Place to purchase flowers. Great day.
S. D.
Recently opened Bridgewater Gardens are a delight to wander around, the gardener's were still at work planting more plants to enjoy in the future. As the plants mature over the years it will only become more beautiful.
A. P.
Better coming in the sunny weather as lots of sitting areas and generally take things easy. Have been when it's been raining as well so rushed around. Cafe always busy around lunchtime.
I. W.
The gardens are fantastic with very naturalistic planting using a carefully thought out arrangement of plant types, colours, heights, textures. These are clearly also attracting a wide range of wildlife to the area. The site is large and there are plenty of areas to walk around away from the more managed areas where there are wilder parts. We have been very impressed by the improvements made over the last year + since opening and look forward to seeing the gardens develop further.
A. M.
Beautiful gardens. Gorgeous cafes and shop. All paths seemed wheelchair friendly. Can't wait to see it develp
D. S.
Excellent day out. We were there early and left after the closing bell was rung. There was a free 1 hour guided walk by a volunteer (ask at the ticket reception - max of six per tour), who was very knowledgeable. The tour concentrated on the walled gardens, the centrepiece of RHS Bridgewater. We went back later and explored at a more leisurely pace later. The woodlands and Chinese garden are lovely too.
It had only been open a short time and obviously masses of hard work have gone into it. This has definitely paid off. The whole garden could probably be described as being at the seedling stage. We will definitely be going back next year to see how the seedling has grown.
I watched the very enlightening programme on the Beeb on iPlayer after our visit. It would have been very helpful to have seen it before going. A sort of heads up about everything. It's not a necessity to see it, but useful. I might have looked slightly differently at some aspects.
A credit to the staff and volunteers.
T. L. W.
Beautifully laid out site, it is amazing how it has been developed and very interesting to see it in its infancy with interesting and inspiring planting ideas to take away with me. A repeat visit in 3-5 years to see how it has continued to develop is on the cards!
Be aware though that this is still very much a garden under construction; vast areas have yet to be planted and there is a considerable amount of wild planting (also known as weeds). It didn't take long to wander around, but once established it will be quite beautiful, I'm sure.
There are garden tours available which we chose not to take. We did bump into one several times; the guide seemed unaware that the position he took ensured that the participants completely obstructed the passage of other visitors, making free movement difficult even without social distancing protocols.
Unfortunately, none of the plants that I coveted from the garden were available to purchase in the shop, which is probably just as well as the prices seemed high for the plants that were there. Beautiful as it was, I couldn't see myself paying £85 for an average sized peony!
The major downside was the catering arrangement. We arrived at 12 but our tickets weren't for much later, so we decided to have lunch first. We joined the queue and actually got served 45 minutes later. There were plenty of tables so no issue getting seating, and we chose to sit outside. We had the mushroom stroganoff and the steak and ale pie, both of which were tasty and hot; the potatoes and rice were lukewarm at best, a bit of a concern with the rice. We watched the queue grow as we ate...
We had a long drive home so decided to have tea and cake before we left; another 30 minute queue...
The gardens are worth a visit, but either prepare to wait or take your own refreshments!
L. B.
The gardens are beautiful and wonderful to walk round. Very accessible for wheelchair users and plenty of seating around the gardens. The cafe however is very busy, not enough seating at 11.40am for lunch. Although the food is freshly made, the amount you get for a hot meal is poor. This meal cost £10. They did offer a partial refund which was good. I hope they look at this and improve. 4 * for the gardens
A. S.
The Gardens are beautiful. I can't wait to see how it matures over the years. The pool in the walled garden reminded me of Spain. I love the kid's playground and nature walk. Not too keen on the Cafe. The way it's set up is not efficient, and the line was long and slow; once, at the front, we found that two of the tills were closed. The coffee wasn't too good either; it tasted as if the beans have been over-roasted. The food was pretty mediocre and didn't justify tge price. If you're going for coffee and a nibble, I will go Bents just down the East Lancs. At the end of our visit, I wanted a water bottle, and the was no quick way to grab a can/bottle. The Garden Centre was brilliant; they had the A-Z of plants but again expensive. We ended up buying the plants we wanted from Bents later in the day! In summary, the gardens are great, but the coffee shop and garden centre didn't rate for me.
J. B.
One of the nicest days out ever. Calming, very cleverly designed, 1st of many visits.
I. G.
It is definitely beautiful garden but I expected more from it. There is plenty of empty spaces obviously waiting to be planted. It's young garden, opened this year so maybe that's the reason, however price is to high for what I saw. It's a shame that planting lack any exciting plants, all of them are typical domestic garden specimens. I hope this garden will flourish in a few years. Fingers crossed as I'm a big fan of RHS.
A. A.
This flower garden is a must place to visit, the concept and the planning are just too good to fault.
The car park are massive and well built will more than enough spaces for visitors. The way the walkways flooring is paved are phenomenal, and I really love the different café located in the garden as that enables one to take a rest and chat.
But the greatest of them all is the main canteen with all varieties of hot home cooked meals at reasonable prices. It was a great day out for my wife and myself.
K. D.
Fabulous time, loads more development to come. Suggestion for the kids mud kitchens to have some pots and pans, some places attach them with chains if they go walkabout. 40 minute wait for a coffee and cake 😩 bit long with kids and worried they are not at full capacity but will see next time if it has improved. Staff friendly and gardens that had been done were beautiful.
S. D.
What a wonderful treat for the eyes and soul. Thank you RHS.
Can't wait to go back with my youngest to explore the woodland play area, looks excellent!
W. K.
Great first trip to this new RHS site. Weather Great and in school holidays so a little busy for our liking, especially the cafe which even at 2pm had a queue going out of the door, so we decided not to stay for a meal. Other than that, we will definitely be back because we are keen to see how the plants progress. Most of them were only planted 2 years ago.
J. M.
Lovely walk through the gardens, great place to catch up with a friend! Lots of coffee and snack stops available. Brilliant kids play area.
So good I signed up as a member.
E. J.
Beautiful place, large managed gardens, amazing dining space, and facilities. Shame the shop isn't open till 6pm. But that just means more visits! 🥰🥰🥰
A. B.
Our first visit here. Nice to actually visit, after seeing series on TV about the development of the site. Pleasantly surprised at how much colour there was, considering the time of year -our favourite part was definitely the Chinese garden. We look forward to returning. A nice place to meet up with friend, choice in cafe was good, although it quickly got busy.
P. D. (.
Very exciting place. Great design. Flowers were amazing ing and place well organised and kept. Woodland area nice for a walk too and the kids area is good. Loved this place
B. G.
Great cafe space, they have indoor and outdoor seating. A drink (coffee and soft drinks) and cake stand which always has a much shorter (if any) queue then the main food cafe. It's slightly overpriced but I don't mind as it's going to a good cause. Staff are all polite and welcoming.
D. F.
What a treat, stunning gardens, great welcome centre, amazing cakes, well stocked plant centre, fantastic woodland play for the kids. Lot's to see and do, lots more for them to transform in future projects. Look forward to many more visits.
A. C.
A fabulous garden to visit well worth the wait to see the new RHS garden. Spent a day here pre booked entrance only due to large numbers of people who want to visit
K. A.
Loved all the flowers and the gardens lovely cafe to eat plenty of vans for a tea or coffee
F.
First visit and it was fantastic! I love Harlow Carr and this was so different, vast and when all the plants have matured will be truly incredible. Café experience was somewhat hectic and could do with better organisation, but the staff were all wonderful and really helpful, and the day was just brilliant
P. T.
Most wonderful day out. Breathtaking Gardens and great activities for kids.
G. H.
Spontaneous lunch visit to the Bridgewater cafe. Very busy but staff were a delight. Food and coffee top drawer. Special mention to Josie for exceptional customer service. The greens were gorgeous Josie! See you again. Gillian & Alice
d. n.
Lovely place. Queues for cafe are too long but I believe they are opening another. Plenty places to picnic though so I will take a picnic next time.
K.
It's a great garden, lots of potential. Look forward to seeing it change with the seasons & for the remainder to open. It's immediately apparent how much hard work has been put into the gardens by the volunteers, congratulations! I'll be visiting regularly to see how it develops.
The café lets it down, because the queue is horrendous! They're apparently getting more staff, which will help. Why not offer an express queue for those just after a coffee & a cake? The food is of good quality & generously portioned.
Also, accessibility could be improved, as the offer of electric scooters or a wheelchair isn't sufficient for those with mobility issues. Someone doesn't want to be confined to a chair or scooter. It seems to be an afterthought solution. More regularly-spaced seating in the wooded area would be appreciated. The walled gardens had lots of benches, which is great!
An offer of a golf cart, or similar, to bring people from one section to another at regular intervals would be appreciated. This should have been factored into the design/plans for the venue at it is brand new. Perhaps consult with disability groups, in future? GMCDP is a local group that could have advised you.
S. C.
Very nice place and would recommend the guided tour of the gardens.
P. B.
Excellent Gardens and cafe. Get there early at weekends though as extremely busy.
C. R.
A relatively new garden, it's nice but time will improve the standard of the herbaceous borders. Big visitor centre/shop/restaurant/plant sales - very crowded. Queue for food was massive, glad we brought sandwiches. I think it's a victim of its own success..
J. F.
Beautiful gardens with lots of quiet nooks and crannies even on busy day. Good quality though expensive souvenirs in gift shop. And enjoyable food from the cafe. Staff were friendly and helpful.
J. S.
A vast and surprisingly 'mature' gardens given the project's age. Lots of ideas to take away for planting schemes in your own gardens. Was very much worth the visit. Beautiful!
G. A.
This is a lovely quiet colourful space and it was a pleasure to saunter round. It wasn't overly busy which was nice. The only downside if you can call it that was there were very few shaded areas and it was very sunny and hot. The real downside was the cafe which was overly busy with long queues so we didn't experience this. Overall, it was a good half day out.
J. N.
Beautiful gardens, fruit and vegetables growing gardens, exotic and local plants. Play area suitable for children of all ages and some chickens and pigs. Wonderful day out and free tours a few times a day. Staff were all fantastic, what a great way to enjoy the famous Manchester rain in stunning gardens and forests
D. M.
Beautiful gardens with modern and industrial elements. Particularly enjoyed the Walled gardens and pond which will be stunning once planted. Still has areas in development and we'll be back once the wildflower meadows and Japanese stream garden have had chance to mature.
T. M.
Beautiful place, especially on a sunny day. Lovely woodland walk around the lake & the plants & flowers in the walled garden are stunning. And because of its size it never feels crowded, even when it's at capacity.
K. P.
Very interesting and informative gardens - well laid out with a great feeling of open space, next to an urban environment. Online booking experience was difficult to negotiate - not strictly Bridgewater's fault - but something the RHS would be advised to look into (hence the dropped star!). The plant centre is worth a visit in itself.
S. K.
Will be beautiful once the plants settle.
Still very new and doesn't feel natural yet. Cant wait to see this grow and develop over the next few decades.
G. C.
A great place to spend a few hours relaxing in the walled gardens and getting some inspiration. Looking forward to returning in a few years to see how the rest of the site evolves.
G. T.
Definitely an ongoing project. The Chinese water area had only recently been planted up. It will be good to go back in 12 months time to see it again when the planting has taken hold. Plenty of car parking. It is worth taking the time to visit.
C. W.
Lovely gardens, which will be even better once more established. Walled paradise garden is beautiful. Hard to believe it has only just been planted. Café by walled garden was a bit disorganized but I think it has only just opened because it wasn't on the map yet. Lovely day out
R. W.
Really really stunning, the walled gardens were lovely and the more wild, naturalistic parts of the site were beautiful. The garden is new, so needs some time to bed in, but will only increase its appeal. We had coffee and cake on the terrace by the water, which was such a great setting. Can’t wait to watch the garden and overall site develop over the next few years.
i. M.
Brilliant day, great cafe and garden centre. Nice walk. Huge array of plants and flowers 💐
A. F.
Will be stunning when it's filled out. Because it's new, the beds are a bit sparce, but it's still lovely.
V. J.
Amazing how much has been achieved since 2017. Much repairing, preparing and planting. Some plants un-labelled and I do need that information. Visited 11 Oct and still much colour round the place including flowers and leaves. This place is big and needs to be revisited often but it's still over an hour from home.
C. G.
Lovely morning. Defo need a whole day. There for 3 hours and only saw inside the walled garden. Will go back to see the rest. And also through the year to see seasonal changes.
C. W.
What a great space, really well thought out. The (massive) children's play area with playground, mud kitchen, loads of woodland area, place and materials for den building etc is awesome for the little ones.
Great to see the New Hall lake and lands refurbished.
L. T.
A beautiful garden with lots of garden inspiration and a lovely playground for the children.
J. R.
Well worth a visit, huge amount of work and investment obviously gone into its conception.
Still needs to mature in places but a lovely day with good weather.
S. L.
An amazing place to go for a walk. So much to see and enjoy in a way home gardens are just too small to provide. Excellent food in the cafe and annual membership makes it a very good price.
I. s. H. R.
Lovely gardens which will only get better as it matures. Didn't have time to wander around the wooded areas and mdadows but will definitely be going back time and time again.
C. H.
Great place to take your children lots for them to explore, lovely views, they are environmentally conscious lots of bees nice shopping area many outdoor places that you can buy tea coffee and cakes ect would definitely go back again
c. n.
Have had a few enjoyable visits here. Can get a bit crowded some days, with grandparents and their charges , during the school holidays, which also makes it difficult to access the food centres there. However, if you are simply going for a lovely walk, don't forget the wooded area, as well as the walled garden
j. s.
Very nice and clean. Fantastic selection of plants for sale. Unfortunately we couldn't get into the gardens due to pre booking only for now. However the cafe was first class. The staff very patient with me due to me being deaf, masks and screens are a nightmare for me.
S. C.
What a fabulous resource for the North West of England! The garden is huge, diverse and stunningly beautiful. I'll be coming back here again and again.
A. T.
Very lucky to get a beautiful Autumn day, very busy Tuesday. I hate the long queues for the restaurant but found the light refreshment outlet in the grounds good. Toilets quite a way from the refreshments, ok but could be better. We took a look at the queue and walked down the canal path for lunch in Worsley.
S.
I've been twice. First on a lovely, warm day in June and second time, on a very wet July day. Everything sparkled in June but somewhat damper in July with different flowers of course as well as some plants drooping after a lot of rain. However, I like the more relaxed approach to planting here as you can see which plants would usually benefit from being staked or supported.
D. W.
Such a little gem. Went here for about 3 hours and loved it. Would recommend to anyone local who wants to get amongst beautiful nature for a few hours. The garden centre and shop is very nice too.
D. T.
Great place for a day out, staff very friendly and helpful, catering expensive, but tasty and worth the money if you have it. If you're on a budget take a picnic, ample spaces to sit and relax. Fabulous gardens, everything well laid out and well organised. Thanks RHS, staff and volunteers
C. C.
Lovely garden to visit & has changed a lot over the past year since I last visited. Lots of beautiful plants & flowers to look at & a lovely lake & wooded area to walk around too. Well worth a visit.
A. C.
We went to have a relaxing walk around, I was feeling stressed but the garden just lifted all that. I think it’s somewhere I will take myself more often. The visitor centre is really architecturally interesting and has some very nice products for sale too.
M. F.
The gardens were nice. They will only get better in time. Hopefully they will expand a bit as they are a bit small.
The cafe is overpriced and the food is below average. My advice, don't bother unless it's just a coffee you are after.
j. l. (.
Beautiful, it will be nice to see how this place establishes over the coming years
C. E.
A very good day out or shorter if necessary. Lovely easy walks around the lake.
Wonderful gardens, easy parking and very helpful staff. Vg shop and garden centre for plant purchases. An excellent coffee bar and/or restaurant also. Be prepared for restaurant queues closer to busy lunch times. Excellent indoor and outdoor seated areas with views over the lake. A 'must visit' if nearby or passing. Buxton, where we stayed, is within an hour's busy drive mostly dual /motorways through the city and Salford suburbs.
S. C.
Lovely gardens (I'm looking forward to seeing the Chinese garden completed), good shop and catering. Two disappointments - 1. the lack of labels on the plants. I wanted to know what things were! 2. the garden centre had very few of the plants on view in the gardens. The stock of grasses was particularly "thin".
S. P.
Some really interesting plants and combinations. Needs time to develop but well worth the visit now. Can recommend the scone with jam and clotted cream. One 'niggle' more signage needed to name what you are looking at, I saw quite a few plants I would have in my garden but not being well versed in identification didn't know what I was seeing.
A. W.
Great place to visit, plenty of benches if you pack a picnic. Still being developed but lots to see.
r. P.
Beautiful gardens even on a wet day! Lovely visitors centre and lots to see and do if you like this kind of thing!
K. T.
Beautiful gardens, easy to walk around. Very helpful staff. Only negative is the price of food and drinks in the café
A. S.
Wonderful gardens, especially the walled garden. Had an excellent, free guided tour. Also lovely walks through the woods and around the lake. Very friendly and helpful staff.
C.
Great place. Easy to get to. Lovely staff. Great to clear the head, take kids, have a coffee. Use it as a brain break from work as have membership which paid for itself after 2 visits with my husband.
J. G.
Fabulous day will definitely return to experience another season in the garden
M. M.
Lovely place even though it's only newly opened its well organised and there is plenty to see.
J. B.
The walled garden is really beautiful, the variety within it is amazing and I love seeing the kitchen garden growing amongst other plants too.
It’s great to see the community initiatives also taking place. There’s a lot to explore within the ground and you can see that more os being added so it will only become an even better place to visit.
The only negative we had on the day was at the cafe, the set up did not work for the number of customers who were there. It was creating a very long and slow moving line. I heard there might have been some staff shortages at the time but speaking to other people who’ve visited, they’ve had a similar experience. Hopefully in time that can be improved but it didn’t impact our experience of the gardens themselves.
H. L.
Wonderful renovation project. Stunning gardens, wildflower meadows and woodlands. It's still fairly new but well worth a visit.
C. H.
What a fantastic place. So much thought and energy has gone into the planting schemes. Even the heavy downpours did not dampen the spirits. Looking forward to seeing the gardens develop.
A. H.
Excellent day out with nice weather. Better when the other cafe opens as the main was too busy. Should have brought a picnic. Fantastic variety of gardens and impressive RHS shop
P. B.
Absolutely fabulous,beautiful,must not be missed!
I. H.
Very modern and full of interesting plants and flowers.
H. K.
Gorgeous gardens and really friendly and accommodating staff. Lovely kids play area.
T. A.
Well worth a visit 👌 beautiful nature attractions and variety of flowers to rediscover in person 🌞🙏💚❤️
M. C.
Already an excellent day out for garden lovers - and will go on getting better and better for years to come!
N. W.
Really good for all the family with the garden's starting to mature.
J. R.
Absolutely beautiful place… a must see for any garden lover… still in its early stages but still worth the 12quid. Lovely cafe too with lots of fresh ingredients and fab vegan choices ❤️
C. H.
Absolutely beautiful gardens with happy chickens and bees and so on. Great place to let the toddler just run and run. A brilliant day out. Good cafe too.
B. P.
Wonderful array of flowering plants, neatly laid out. Staff very friendly and helpful but food in cafe is poor - mediocre soup, tasteless bread for sandwich, coffee unpleasant. Much better coffee at pizza cafe at Leigh Road end of site.
A. K.
Amazing garden and superb cafe. Top tip, cafe is always busy, so grab a coffee or tea (and slice of cake) from the small stand near the shop (in the cafe) if that’s all you want. It saves a 20 min line up for the same thing!
L. W.
Always a joy to come here, every season is a revelation to see the planting and array of colour.
D. R.
Opened on 18 May 2021, RHS Garden Bridgewater is the fifth RHS garden and one of the largest and most spectacular gardening projects undertaken in Europe in recent years. The transformation of this 154-acre green space will enrich the lives of local communities and their environment for the future. There is so much to see – the Weston Walled Garden contains multiple garden rooms, setting the tone for a journey of exploration with colourful themed borders, complementary sub-gardens and characterful listed buildings. The wider woodland, meadows and lakes further your enjoyment. Woodland Play will delight children, while a stroll through Worsley Welcome Garden and the emerging Chinese Streamside Garden offer time for relaxation and thought."
J. T.
Wonderful gardens which have walled gardens, glass houses, Chinese gardens, woodland, fairy garden and children's play area. When we visited there was a talk for children on mini beasts 🕷️. Also an area with bee hives and chickens. Many, many flowers, vegetables and trees. Seating in the gardens to sit and take in the views. Wheelchair paths are clearly signposted. One visit is not enough.
A. W.
Stunning, creative plantings and vistas with lots of future development potential. Lovely mix of flowers and vegetable areas, wildflower meadows, woodland and a meandering stream.
C. F.
Still work to be done although they have already done amazingly well in getting to this stage. Enormous walled gardens, delightful stream and lake walks. The welcome building and restaurant are great too.
T. D.
We broke our journey up to the Lakes by stopping here. They have achieved so much in such a short space of time. Our designated desk clerk on arrival was a bit rude though. She should have dealt with us rather than listen to her colleague, close her desk, and move us. We took seconds to be processed. There were a lot of people in the gardens on June 17th. They definitely need more catering facilities. So glad we'd bought a picnic. They need more signs in the veg garden. (my fave rhs garden is Hyde Hall and the others could all learn from that one in my opinion). Very interesting place overall
C. T.
Lovely gardens, beautifully laid out. A favourite haunt of ours!
M. E.
Beautiful day out, plenty of space for children to run around. Mobility scooter hire available at a very reasonable £5 per 3 and half hours. Restrooms all very clean.
M.
Just beautiful……!
Nice combination of artificial and natural intelligence …..!
A. B.
Absolutely stunning ! We had a coffee to start then a lovely walk around - the formal gardens were lovely but gave great ideas for planting up.We had a lovely walk around the wild area also - beautiful .
S. S.
Brilliant visit, thoroughly enjoyed our walk around this amazing place. Just loved the Paradise garden, absolutely fabulous.
A. P.
Plants fantastic but they're trying too hard with the food. Despite there being many picnic tables there was no food you were allowed to buy and take to them. Bring your own sandwiches.
P. C.
Very lovely gardens. As it's new it needs to mature. It should be much better in 2 or 3 years. Still worth a visit. Good shop, garden centre and restaurant.
B. P.
Wonderful place to visit in any weather for all the family, feels like you're a world away from the city that is so close by! Would 100% recommend
A. M.
Fantastic day out. The gardens are beautiful and the kids loved the large play area. Well worth signing up for membership of local.
M. W.
Got membership w tesco club card vouchers (very affordable this way). Lovely gardens, kids loved it. Loads of places for picnics or food available (think national trust prices but food and customer service all good)
Gardens are young....some are still growing in, others already impressive. Its great that rhs working w local history and natural wildlife in many areas of the site
J. C.
Not the Salford that Lowry painted.
RHS Bridgewater is a remarkable achievement in a short space of time. An absolute paradise and it will only get better with time. The walled gardens are probably the highlight.
Loved it.
P. H.
All very new, gardens not established to full potential but give it time. No toasted tea cakes at the cafe, arrrgh this needs to change!! Oh spent a good 20 minutes watching the water feature (in the picture)
c. h.
Gardens are absolutely amazing. The cafe however is absolutely awful. So many members of staff standing around looking absolutely lost. Food expensive for what it is. Jacket potato with cheese.Cold potato cheese not melted no garnish. Presentation could do with a little work. Staff really need direction .
m. e. h.
Love this place. Find entrance to the gardens a little expensive.
J. B.
The gardens are truly amazing, a fantastic shop and garden centre. Good food too. Everything you need to have an excellent day out.
m.
Just popped in for a drink and a tea cake. Happy, polite and hard working staff. Neat and clean seating area. Great for adults, children and grandchildren.
S. A.
Worth the wait after the delayed opening due to the pandemic. Wonderful range of planting and different zones. Plenty of reasons to come back.
T. B.
Outstanding beautiful garden. So excited to finally get to see our local RHS garden. Fantastic design and exceptional array of plants. Will visit frequently through the year to experience the changes.
A. F.
Really enjoyed our visit despite the weather. Excellent layout and planting, very friendly welcome, very good facilities. 10/10.
G. C.
Lovely day in the gardens. Plenty to see and plenty of places to sit and watch the world go by. The main cafe was very busy at 1.45 but great meals.
T. F.
We only saw a fraction of this garden. Because of suspected high winds they had closed off a big portion of these gardens. Like woodland walk, the lake
So it was a very disappointing visit. The saving grace of the day was the Walled Garden.
a. m.
Very nice new gardens, that can only get better as things mature and they add more features to the gardens.
Will be coming again, and highly recommended for ALL the family
H. L.
This place is lovely; autumn colours and calm. Work is still going on but it is good for the soul to wander around and experience the whole atmosphere of nature doing its bit. Very friendly and helpful staff.
I. W.
Always a beautiful place to visit with my mum. Very well-kept gardens and incredible design/flower placements. Friendly staff, easy to navigate.
I. M. P.
Beautiful garden, still not completed in the "chinese garden" area, but beautiful to walk around and enjoy the plants, flowers and everything else, peaceful place to spend a day out, you can either take a pic nic or eat in one of the 3 spots there, prices are reasonable. Entry for 1 day is 11.50 per adult. Free parking.
P. R.
Amazing place, loved walking around with the kids. They is a kids play area with little bits hidden. Chinese garden was awesome.
One thing I would say is it need a couple of portable drink stations, on a hot day it's hard to queue for a drink.
Can't wait to visit again
M. S.
Beautiful gardens but if limited mobility then hire a scooter before you visit. I didn't know about these until I saw and enquired about them. Food very expensive for what it is but coffee was what I would pay anywhere
F. D. C.
What a real treasure and it's only going to get better. Great walks in and around the main garden area.
A. B.
What a wonderful place. Every time we visit the colours and plants change with the seasons. It's a great walk and more and more for the kids to do too.
p.
Amazing & Fab gardens, wonderfully executed, great mix of formal & woodland/wild planting. Great garden centre & cafe too. Highly Recommend a visit.
S. L.
Excellent place for some tea and cake. Super for Christmas Goodies too
J. B.
Beautiful swathes of colour from the herbaceous borders at their best. The gardens are maturing nicely with pockets of new additions.Lovely to relax on the patio by the lake watching the swallows flying around
J. H.
This was my first visit to RHS Bridgewater and it will not be my last. We booked onto a guided tour which was excellent as we learned about the history and future plans of this project. The passion, commitment and inclusivity of this venture are evident everywhere. It is peaceful, calm and beautiful.
S. W.
It was the first time we had been to Bridgewater. It's very big so we will repeat the visit to see more of the garden. This will be done during a different season. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. The café is lovely.
P. L.
Great afternoon out at this new RHS garden. Easy to find, easy to park, well organised and beautiful gardens already, which will look even better as they mature.
Excellent shop and garden centre and the obligatory cafe serving fab cake and drinks.
Well worth the ticket price.
R. M.
Stunning gardens, but food etc very expensive.
T. F.
Really great gardens, very impressed by the kitchen garden veg was super. It rained a little but that didn't spoil our day. I'd definatly go again. Better than Rosemoor.
S. R.
Simply Glorious. RHS have done an incredible job bringing back to life this beautiful, wonderful space. A jewel for Manchester & Salford to treasure. Loving the community growing & teaching spaces.
J. D.
I've been to Bridgewater three times now. Love the gardens but find the café frustrating. There are such long queues because you have to ask so many questions at the counter. A written menu exists but is not very much in evidence. The baguette sandwiches are overwhelming in their size with odd choices of filling. For this reason we chose cooked meals last time which were barely warm and my roasted aubergine was so tough I had to return it and wait for a freshly cooked one. When we mentioned that the food was cold the member of staff was unapologetic and merely said it was kept at a set temperature on the counter in line with health and safety regulations. Not a great experience.
C. S.
Beautiful species of plants and flowers all meticulously cared for, everything in bloom, spectacular displays. Good quality eating places, gifts and plants to buy. Good day out
C. M.
Lovely to stroll around the gardens in the sunshine. Enjoyed our picnic, bought coffees from the hut, a great visit to hopefully be repeated.
J. J.
Love seeing the changes everytime i go. Someone has done lovely work developing the colour schemes around the formal gardens. They have excellent scones in the café.
S. T.
I organised a coach trip to Bridgewater on 10.7.22, and we had an amazing day, the staff ensured our arrival and entry was smooth and speedy and the gardens were just beautiful. Thank you so much xx
A. C.
A fantastic place to unwind and recharge the batteries in beautiful surroundings.
L. S.
Fab to have this in Worsley !!!
Great day last week, better than forecast + walked round for hours - catch up meet with friends who hadnt been before. Beautiful gardens flourishing. Plenty of space. Great food in cafe, quieter at 3pm. Sat in with Zoolab - great storytellin that kept the kiddies entertained + interested, they all enjoyed it.
Will definately return again !!!!
P. Y.
Typical walled gardens and nice walks around the lake. Seems to be work in progress with far too many grasses of the same sort. Toilets not big enough for the amount of visitors and food and drink grossly overpriced.
V.
Lovely gardens, and great food !
T. B.
Don't have a sign saying 'Ask staff about allergies' if they don't have sufficient materials to help them or if you don't have anything to offer. Stable cafe had no oak milk, or vegan cakes. Not the end of the world for some, matters for others. Otherwise the place is lovely.

"A horticultural masterpiece bursting with life"
I visited RHS Bridgewater garden and WOW, it was stunning. Upon arrival in the highly-planted, neat car park, complete with 5 electrical car charging points, I walked down to the light and airy welcome building: an open-plan gift shop and café with an adjoining garden centre. The welcome centre ties right in with the feel of the garden too.
After obtaining my pass, I walked out of the double doors into an abyss of greenery: an elongated, well-manicured lawn with perfectly trimmed yew half spheres. A crossroad in the path could lead you three different ways: left to the 10 football pitches worth of walled garden, straight on to the woodland walk and Chinese streamside gardens or right to the hexagonal planted beds. I chose the walled garden.
I entered through the narrow arch in the wall to a sight so regal and welcoming that I actually ran in. I have been to quite a few gardens yet I had seen nothing like this. The first plot of walled garden had a small, floor height pond at one end with a fountain, surrounded by petite wooden seats and elaborate planting. Moving down the fast-flowing rill, you come upon a huge rectangular pool of shining blue water, shortly followed by a raised pond and miniature waterfall, enclosed within the shelter of 16 espalier trees. And this was just one little corner of THE biggest garden project in Europe!
The second of the walled garden areas was populated with blobs of lawn with a path entwining around them. One thing I noticed here, and around the entire garden too, was the array of benches. A curved bench here, a straight bench there and a log bench over there. The variation and sheer number of different benches allows you to enjoy the variety of different spectacular views on a variety of different spectacular benches, a small detail which I am sure large families will be grateful for. The final of the walled garden sections was a community zone, full to the brim with hexagonal raised beds, labelled with which local charity, school or foundation was managing them.
I returned to the crossroad and decided to venture into the 11 acres of woodland, when I noticed a rustic, hand-crafted sign beckoning me to discover the woodland play area. I couldn't resist; who doesn't love a play area? I was thrilled to find it because I know that this would be where families with children will be spending most of there visit. The play area was surrounded by a village of picnic benches and seats but one thing that drew my attention was the play area itself. I was very happy to see that the play area embraced its woodland surroundings by building unique equipment mostly out of wood and logs. It was filled with swings, climbing frames, a tunnel system, a climbing post and even a mud kitchen with its very own dining room.
I ventured further into the woods and discovered a large lake which had been drained, cleared and refilled again. Rightly so because this was the backdrop to a stunning classical Chinese water garden. A ramp or, for the more daring, a set of boulder steps led you down by the stream, crossing many bridges and idling down many paths before peacefully winding your way back to the entrance building. And this is just the beginning: I didn't have the strength in my fingers to type out about all of the gardens as there are just so many and RHS have some areas of clear space ready to be filled with beautiful gardens in the future.
I entered back through the turnstile into the café. I ordered a Raspberry Lemonade and a Sage and Apricot sausage roll. Although the price was a little steep, it still tasted delicious. I could drive home in the excitement of knowing that every time I return, the garden will be just that little bit different...
Please take a look at the photos from my trip and thank you for reading my (lengthy) review!
S. W.
The lack of baby changing rooms meant we changed in the adult disabled room which felt very wrong but other parents were also doing it as they could not find an alternative. Only thing that marred the occasion especially as my daughter would have happily used a little toilet instead of changing mat
A. S.
Beginnings of an amazing garden. Well worth a visit. People living in Salfird get in free on Tuesdays.
Nice garden centre, shop and cafe you can visit without paying entrance fee.
H. I.
A lovely day out lots of interesting plants
M. M.
The place is awesome. Bit costly to go walk in the garden and think for coffee tea and cake bought from outside stall at the garden shop entrance very costly as the que for the restaurant very long. Otherwise really a lovely place.
K. M.
Great to hear about the history but not much about the planting, will be great when open for sure. Lovely tour guide. Sure this will be five stars when open but only worth a tour if you live within a 30 minute drive in my opinion.
E. B.
Emerging garden. Good parking and facilities. Cafe very expensive and long queues on a Sunday. If a family is going take your own drinks and a snack. Well sign posted!
A. H.
It is still waiting for the vegetables to be planted, opening day .a very good garden centre, top tip take a picnic. Also visit the local Worsley village it is where the first canal in the county was built with 3 pubs that serve food
P. G. C.
Wonderful place to visit and getting better with time. Members still have to book to enter the gardens which I object to.
L.
Great day out. Gardens are beautiful. New Coach house opened serving amazing Pizza and salads.
K. G.
I would highly recommend this for a day out, fantastic grounds to walk around and a lovely garden centre and cafe with a really nice gift shop, we visited during the evening this time for the rhs glow and really enjoyed it
N. J.
What a beautiful place a shame the same can't be said about the cafes, there appear to be no menu's to look at before queuing up for a ridiculous length of time to place an order. Perhaps that's why the queue is so long. Needs to be sorted out please.
R. M.
The Glow display was not quite as good as the show at Wisley but I expect it to grow @ Bridgewater. We arrived early and went around the gardens before going back in to see the lights.
J. R.
Very enjoyable and informative Hidden History tour of the old hall grounds. Great guide but you must wear proper shoes or trainers!
L. H.
First rate! It will be amazing to see the planting develop over the coming months and years. Lovely, friendly staff too!
A. B.
Everything is very well organised. The staff are very happy to help, they did everything with a smile. The gardens are very new, given time and warm weather to mature it will knock the socks of Rosemoor and Harlow Carr.
J. G.
Great place had a lovely day, beautiful gardens, only one negative, whilst in the queue for lunch one of the young staff serving the food was a bit sharp when answering a question regarding the menu.
C. B.
Very nicely done a lot of money has been spent on this project it is an on going project worth a visit suggest take a brew /flask /buttys ithink the cafes are expensive but I like value for money
4 English pounds for a iced coffee I did not like asking how much for a hot coffee
J. L.
A great place to while away a few hours, some great garden displays even at this time of year with some very tranquil walks to be had.
C. R.
Had a lovely few hours enjoying beautiful relaxing surroundings
N. K.
Already impressive and will get better as plants mature and seasons change. We'll definitely keep coming back.
R. P.
Lovely gardens to visit. Mix of curated, kitchen garden, forest and wildflower; bit of something for everyone. Excellent café and facilities.
R. D.
Original Review Mar 2022 - A bit expensive for what is currently there. It will be lovely when finished, but it is very much still a work in progress. If you go with those expectations and don't mind the high entrance fee (we thought of it as a donation to the future development of the garden), then you are less likely to be disappointed.
New review Oct 2022 - The change from Mar 2022 is staggering. The gardens look wonderful and I am sure they will only improve with time. I'm so please this is now on Manchester's doorstep.
M. S.
Lovely place with plenty to see even at this time of year
A. T.
Really great day out for all three generations of our family. There's plenty to interest and entertain children and the food in the cafe was excellent.
m. p.
Fabulous achievment bringing this garden into being, year round interest and a great cafe, gift shop and garden centre.
D. K.
Another beautiful RHS garden,
m. h.
World Class Venue- amazing gardens, conversation projects and interaction with the community. Staff and volunteers inspiring congratulations to RHS for showcasing the very Best of British at Bridgewater
F. T.
Anyone who likes garden's and gardening will be more than happy to visit here. Absolutely stunning 😍
R. E.
Would like to have seen a few more plants with named labels on. Restaurant very good but pricy. Garden centre very pricy
D. R.
My first visit to this beautiful place with my lovely amazing friend, who is a member and I was looked after the whole day. Parking was plentiful even for disability. We went on a guided tour which was excellent, such fabulous information and history about RHS and the land, our guide was patient and very professional and had a large group but we could hear everything, thanks for an excellent tour. So much produce that is also used in the restaurant and such wonderful amazing flowers, trees, plants etc. The grounds are immaculate and walled garden so relaxing.
It was the busiest day they said so if you prefer quiet times don’t go in the school holidays, (expect long queues) but I have to say it was joy seeing the children free and playing and enjoying it as much as there parents.
Disability scooters and wheelchairs can be hired.
Different places to eat and drink and plentiful tables and chairs inside and outside. Outside was also a lake where plenty of wildlife was seen.
Couldn’t finally resist spending our money on plants for our own gardens.
Thanks for a lovely day and we will be back.
K. R.
Beautiful garden's.
Plenty of parking, toilets in most sections of the garden, play area for children.
C. C.
It will be great... the staff are putting in a great deal of hard work to create the gardens with ingenious watering schemes etc.. with a real focus on the future of our environment - water preservation and reuse.
It's a wonderful garden project which will probably have no end as it continues to develop and evolve. Needless to say, at present, it's a bit of a blank canvas...
Very knowledgeable and helpful staff.
The new building is impressive and the old buildings have been thoughtfully incorporated into the overall design.
Downside, it wasn't too busy on the day we visited, however, both the catering and toilets (very small & not good if worried about covid)were stretched beyond capacity. Shame as all the facilities are new-build and more provision could have been planned. Recommended taking a picnic.
Overall, a great day out 🤗.
D. H.
Again l can't give enough praise to this wonderful garden. Love it every time we go!
H. R.
We are amazed at how much transforming work had been completed since our last visit in November.
The early spring flowers are in bloom.
Trees are budding forth.
Lovely views.
New paths made, excellent fore wheel chair users.
Friendly approachable,helpful staff.
Very high standard of cleanliness.
Well worth a visit
J. P.
Gardens are new so will be spectacular in a couple of years. Still lovely to walk around. The cafe is worth a visit shop garden centre all free to visit. Payment required to go around the gardens. Lots of plants in centre that you wouldn't find in your usual garden centre and all looked healthy.
N. B.
Really nice and plenty of plants, although not much in bloom yet, but no problem. Will be going back later in the year.
Really well suited for those with disabilities, with 99% of areas easily accessible to all.
Nice cafe and plenty of space for all ages to run about in.
Ample car parking.
Attached plant center is well stocked and shop has the usual collection of items seen in gargen centers.
All in all, a nice day out.
G. B.
Good display of spring flowers, tulips especially beautiful.
Early stages of establishing the garden areas but a nice display anyway. Suitable for old and young. Good paths suitable for wheelchairs and prams, lots of paved routes, good gift shop and well stocked garden centre. Clean toilet facilities. Refreshments available in two places, drinks and cakes at one location, as well as hot food additionally at the main building. Plenty of car parking. Enjoyable first visit.
M. P.
Plenty of parking, modern facilities. Great to visit if your buying plants, lots of choice, but a bit expensive so I'd give 4*. Great for kids walking around and using the play area. The gardens themselves felt rather empty, still being developed, but will be great once they're established then I will give a higher rating.
D. S.
Beautiful place. Even though the gardens
are not at their full splendour yet it is a great place to visit even if you only go for a coffe or something to eat.
Everybody has done a fantastic job.
It is a great asset to the area. 😃
W.
I Have visited numerous times over the last 6 months but my first review. Lovely to see how everything is changing with the seasons. Hoping to see more winter flowering plants next winter, looking a little sad this month. But is still deserving of five stars. A very enjoyable walk with plenty of benches to sit and watch the world go by. Maybe a few more though around the woodland area would be even better. I find that each time I come I notice that there is something new that I hadn’t noticed before. Garden centre a little expensive , the gift shop has a very good selection and reasonably priced.
Feel the need to re-edit my review: still agree with everything I said, but the café really needs a rethink! On a recent visit to the cafe, very disappointed with the look of my order: jacket potato with cheese, I would have thought it wasn’t to much to ask for the cheese to be melted and side salad for the price. Health and safety gone mad! Not allowed to melt the cheese , Staff behind the counter very helpful and accommodating to keep the customer happy, so well done to the staff.
E. W.
Beautiful gardens and buildings. Plenty of open space for chn to run around and a play ground too. Thoughtfully curated planted areas and water feature in walled garden. Cafe serving hot and cold food with seating areas in and outside. Huge gift shop. Parking attendants working the day we attended. Disabled parking but no parent spaces so can be tight getting in and out when it is busy. Flat paths from the car park all the way through the park makes it pram and wheel chair friendly.

We love going to RHS Garden Bridgewater. It was a bit blustery on the day we went for the Easter Egg hunt, but the craft activities inside (making bunny tails) made up for it
