Best Garden Centre in the area. Top quality plants, with guarantees. I like how their displays are colour-defined so, if you want a purple flowered plant, Cowells show them together with complementary shades of purple. Never seen that before - such a good idea! Their reduced price stands have many bargains to bring back to life. Absolutely recommended (just wish they had a cafe).

The best garden centre around here. It concentrates on plants, shrubs and trees. There is nowhere to buy second-rate books, soap and shower gel. The staff are superb: knowledgeable, very pleasant and professional. Overall, a gem littered with other 'also rans'.

What an amazing garden centre! Such a variety of plants, all of them were super healthy and worth what you pay for them. All of the container-grown plants even come with a 2-year guarantee (unheard of?!). The staff were so polite, professional and well turned-out. Great place and I don’t think I’ll bother going anywhere else for garden plants.

Dropped by Cowell’s on a Wed afternoon as we were holidaying in Northumberland. Amazing selection of indoor and outdoor plants, even succulents, at great quality and reasonable prices. Compared to other garden centres, the plants area are kept very clean, staff is helpful and polite. It’s not too busy when we were there which is nice as we could walk around not having to avoid too many people! I could easily spend the whole day here and it’s so hard to decide which plants to get. My most favourite garden centre!

I have bought several anthurium plants from Cowell's and all of them from XXL to medium to small plants are superb. They have excellent stock of various coloured anthuriums. Sam was kind enough to order some specific coloured anthurium plants for me from Netherlands. The customer service is excellent, packaging is great and I highly recommend this company for quality plants. I shall be back for more!!

What an amazing independent garden centre. I have already recommended it to several people. We came over from Carlisle after having it recommended to us. I love this place, it my favourite local houseplant supplier and the staff know their stuff! The lady in the houseplant area was very helpful and they have a wonderful selection of rare and unique plants. As a person who has 30+ houseplants, I still find lovely new plants here!

These guys offer such a huge range of houseplants. I've also seen some rare ones on here as well. I ended up buying a Pilea 'White Splash' (they seem to be the only one in the UK who seems to stock this) at decent enough price for a rare plant (£20). I was shocked when I opened the box. IT IS HUUUUGEEE!! There are at least six pups growing as well! I'm so amazed!! I even emailed in to ask when they were going to restock their Begonia Rex's as they were out of stock due to reopening of the store. Their initial response explained that they didn't know when they were going to get them in next. A few days later I got a surprise email saying that they had a delivery and were going to put them on the website that evening. I bought the plants that evening. Again, these plants are hard to find and they sell them at such a good price. I got an email the next morning saying my order has been dispatched and I've received the box all in all a total of two days from ordering to receiving. They have such a quick service, I can't recommend enough. 100% I will be buying from these guys again. Thank you so much!

Been coming to Cowell’s for 10 years plus and a huge fan! But wanted to make a point of thanking the young man who helped me today with my selection of plants for a new west facing bed created in my garden. Very patient throughout, he made the whole design process simple and effective and the recommended grasses and Sorbus tree look absolutely amazing now they’ve been planted out! Couldn’t have done it without him!! So sorry I didn’t get his name - but a true asset to the team!! Thanks again!!

Not cheap by any means..but good plant collection ...lots to keep a keen gardener happy! My only gripe is that sometimes the perennials are in big pots only..ie expensive and the ones in smaller pots don't have a great root system. Good selection of vegetable plants herbs and annuals. No cafe.

Hi so I got this and there are tiny worms in it before I've even put it in a pot? Is this just from the worm castings or is it a pest? The worm was small and thin and I couldn't tell the colour because it was in the dirt but I don't think it was white. It was about 2 cm long. If anyone knows what this is and if it's harmful please let me know!!!

I got great service from the information shed situated in the middle of the garden centre. I bought gravel, compost, a mature honeysuckle and a pot. Helpful and knowledgeable staff, and you can get it right to your car. It's not the cheapest in the world but not the most expensive either, and the choice and service are worth every penny.

A very wide range of plants despite the current difficulties with Covid etc but also the very friendly and the most knowledgeable staff who are willing to spend time to discuss options that work for the customer. Toilets were closed when we visited, which was a bit awkward. Edit: Second visit in 4 days! As always we managed to get the plants we wanted but we were very unhappy with the woman who was serving us on the till at 2.30pm. My friend and I were chatting with (to) her - just saying that we loved the garden centre but wished they had an on-site cafe but the staff member with cropped grey hair just glowered at us as if we had come in on the bottom of someone's shoe and said "go next door!"! Definitely needs an injection of smiles and customer service training! What a grump!!!! After personally spending £100-plus I may well go elsewhere in future...

Overall rather disappointed. Cowell's is normally a very good garden centre with good quality plants that are reasonably priced. However on this visit it was very, very busy. However, to be fair the long till queues were socially distanced and well marshallled. I was disappointed that the plants that we had identified online as being in stock were not available when we arrived a couple of hours later. We were also disappointed by the off hand attitude of some staff when we asked where the plants we wanted were located.

This is my favourite garden centre. It's a family run business and you can tell, as it has lots of character. For a small garden centre it has a lot of interesting worthwhile plants at good prices. It's a visual delight for me going through their glass houses because some of their plants are so exotic and in such good condition. It's won awards and I'm not surprised as it's in a different class to garden centres that are much bigger. As well as plants it has a tasteful selection of water features and some outstanding outdoor plants. The staff obviously know what they're doing and have good caring houseplant skills as the plants are always in tip top condition. There's a full range of solid garden products as these people really know their stuff. I heartily recommend this garden centre as you're certain to enjoy yourself seeing all of it's interesting features along with it's overall beauty and charm.

Never been to this Garden centre before but I must say it's by far the best I've ever visited .....every plant looks healthy and beautiful and not at all expensive...the set up is so tidy & uniform... plus the gifts & ornaments are unusual, unique & a very reasonable price.. I sat in a beautiful covered garden bench that was nearly £200 cheaper than the garden centre further along( beginning with D !!) they were identical !? . Just goes to show that larger businesses aren't always cheaper...Would highly recommend Cowells Gardwn Centre......

It's great to have an independent and large garden centre around Newcastle. The plants are great quality with a huge range, staff are helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. The safety precautions in place for Covid-19 are good with clear markings and good signage.

Searching the Internet for a particular variety of poppy I found Cowells and ordered the poppy plant at a very competitive price. Within 48 hours of ordering it had been delivered in perfect condition with buds ready to open, beautifully wrapped to protect it and potted on my patio. This is a great day out if you have plants that are getting bored around the house. I took my youngest piece of foliage here to explore the terrain and we had a lovely time. We took some chips to feed the carnivorous organisms but after a few tastes all the mouths closed up, maybe they only eat organic food? If it's high-quality greenery you're looking for with a wide variety of plants to choose from this is most definitely the place to go, with colour-coordinated and multi-textural displays that will give you more than a few ideas when it comes to laying out your own garden. A real delight just to wander round in spring and summer with something to suit all budgets if you don't mind buying plants that will take a year or two to reach their full potential. I've been buying plants from here for over 20 odd years, I've never been disappointed, I've probably spent thousands over the years, the quality of the plants are always premium and I've had more than my fare share of reduced bargains too that have flourished once planted. The service from the staff has always been helpful, they given me good advice and tips over the years. Maybe the reviewer whose hanging baskets died didn't water them enough. If a plant I've bought doesn't flourish enough I move it and always with success. This is mine and my parents favourite garden centre. I enjoy a bit of gardening, but I'm not very knowledgeable. At Cowells when I ask questions about the plants, acidic soil, pests etc etc. There is always a good answer, full of useful advice, and I feel I have learned something. I have had blank looks at other places. Also, you don't get drooping and wilting with Cowells stuff when you get it home. I think that indicates that their stock is well kept. Thumbs (green ones!) up for Cowells. In my humble opinion they are the best in the area. Not always the cheapest, but the best.

Cowells is a great family owned garden centre and is very popular due to its personal service, if needed. Due to corona virus they have Tolley and hand sanitizers at the entrance and a one way system in place. We bought three perennials for £15.00 and a lupin at half price. We have been going there for years and would highly recommend them.

I was recommended Cowell's by a friend and we were totally impressed, all the staff were amazing, friendly, knowledgeable and particularly Stefan gave us great advice on trees, Janie was very friendly while we were buying a bistro set but there is always one grey haired mature lady who was very dismissive of keeping trees in pots, after speaking with her we nearly walked out, but my husband said let's try someone else that's when we met Stefan and spent another £300 on trees our total spend was £775 thoroughly enjoyed our visit and we'll be back
