After watching Johnnyboy's YouTube videos for inspiration on design & porcelain ideas for my garden, I took John up on his offer & emailed him for advice as we were experiencing water pooling on our newly layed patio. Not knowing if he'd respond. True to his word, he emailed next day to call him. We had a good chat & he offered his expertise & knowledge on how to solve my issue. Knowing I lived miles away, shows what a genuine person & a man of his word he is to take time out his busy schedule to offer me free advice. I want to thank John for taking the time out to respond to my problem. 100% recommend anyone looking for advice or inspiration on their garden to give John a shout and watch his videos on YouTube.

Buying a new build property we researched for quite some time to find the right landscaping company, our garden was not going to be big but we were going to use it as extension to our home and we love gardening so it had to be just right, we had followed Greentops for some time and agreed their attention to detail was what we were looking for. We were not disappointed, the initial communication with Alison, although we had never met, made us feel she was a friend and interested in what we wanted and John could tell straight away that Tony was a gardener and appreciated his enthusiasm for planting. During the work Johns team were friendly, professional and respectful, the attention to detail we were looking for was 2nd to none, and not to mention adaptable at short notice when things needed a change of plan. Decided to replace my drive last year after a car crashed into our garden wall. Had a concrete base installed in august and now its time to cover with porcelain tiles! Was unsure if I needed to insert some form of movement joints in the porcelain so gave Alison a call for some advice. While many contractors, understandably, don't want to share their expertise, he takes a very different, inclusive, approach which is really refreshing. Having been left relatively disappointed by the response from a couple of landscaping companies local to where I live, I decided to have a go at our garden myself. I came across John and Greentop Landscaping on YouTube and how glad I am. I can only describe John in one word - Extraordinary!! I have been taking massive inspiration from Johnyboy's you tube videos. I am laying my own patio and will be using Indian Sandstone. I really needed piece of mind on a few important aspects of my garden project. I am in Leeds and really find it difficult to trust landscape gardening project tradesmen to carry out work for me without it wiping out my bank balance and the most important aspect being the quality of work. I could not afford Johnyboy or anybody of the same craftsmanship so I have to undertake all the labour work and laying of Indian sandstone slabs. Raj green individual slabs. Two sizes opposed to the patio packs. My concern was that I needed to know if I should seal the sandstone. I looked on You tube and once again found Johnyboy giving his thought process on this very important matter. I contacted him on Instagram and asked him what sealant I should use. In my wildest dreams I did not expect such a rapid response. I knew this guy would be so busy with his job and did not think he could possibly give me a answer straightaway. How wrong I was. He returned my message question by a Insta voice message, which was a good personal touch I thought. He even gave me his phone number and invited me to call him. I rang him and we got straight down to full on Indian Sandstone chat, he put me in touch with a guy that was a specialist in Sandstone sealants. If I had not had spoke to John I would not have known that I needed a BREATHABLE sealant I would have most certainly just bought something from BnQ or Jewsons which might not have been the most effective product. I need to seal my Sandstone because my neighbour has a massive cherry tree overhanging our garden and the birds peck the cherries off the tree and these would be landing on my patio and bleeding cherry juice into the heart of the stone. John was such a friendly bloke to conversate with, no gimmicks or arrogance just sound experienced down to earth advice. I wish I could have won a few grand on the lottery I would have booked Johnyboy, although I think this would have been a longshore, he is hundreds of miles away from me. I am totally hooked on his you tube videos, a great teacher is the one that holds your attention and unbeknowingly transfixes you to return for another lesson Thanks to John I now have my answer and solution. If in doubt with a garden project, ask " JohnyBoy"

So I recently decided (really means my partner did) it was time to redo our garden which was to include a patio area of Indian sandstone. I have watched many of Johnnys videos over the last couple of years which I have to say I have always found very interested and informative but still when it came to crunch time for me to start I still found myself a little confused as to what the best course of action was for me to take. So back to watching some more videos and things start becoming a lot clearer but still through my own inexperience found myself unsure on a few things. So I decided to send Johnny an email to ask for some advice, the response I received from Johnny was to give him a call and provided me his mobile number. Now I know this may not seem like a big thing to most people but considering it was a Sunday and I live hundreds of miles away from Johnny I feel was truly amazing and generous to do this, Johnny wasn’t condescending in anyway whatsoever even though some of my questions probably did seem a little stupid to him he took the time to explain things to me and break them down into a way which I understood which to me shows true professionalism and a love for what he does. I just wanted to take the time to let other people know how great this guy and his knowledge really is and to say thank you once again I couldn’t have managed what I have without the advice!

Fantastic company, very helpful and very knowledgeable. I came up against a problem while preparing a sub base for a porcelain patio. After a lot of head scratching and wasted time thinking about what to do, I decided to get a second opinion. So i sent a brief message to John explaining the problematic ground situation i was faced with. I got an immediate response asking me to call him, which i did. Alison was enthusiastic and very knowledgeable about the product she was supplying and her explanation of the way in which the grass would be laid addressed problems that can come with laying artificial grass such as how to prevent weeds from appearing. Through Alison, John from Greentop Landscapes attended at the property and provided additional ideas on how to make the most of the garden, for example, creating a path through the garden leading to a small patio area to compliment the artificial grass. John was very passionate about his work. He kept me updated as to what was being done and together we came up with new ideas for the garden as the work progressed. It was refreshing that John left the work area neat when he left everyday so I could still access my garden and garage. The standard of work was excellent and I am delighted with the friendly professional service provided by Grass Room and Greentop Landscapes.

What can I say about John that others haven’t said already?! I can’t speak highly enough about this man! In any profession you usually have 3 types of people: cowboys (and there are a lot of them!), professionals who take pride in their work (and they are few), and true masters of their craft who are driven by passion to their profession and are generous enough to share their wisdom with anyone even if they are not contacted by you - these are like unicorns and John definitely is of this type. I was unlucky to be too far away from John to have him doing my patio. Nevertheless, I found his YouTube channel truly amazing. His Saturday morning live show is second to none - although most of the people attending are veteran and early career landscapers sharing their knowledge and learning from him (no surprise!), all it took was asking him a simple question on the chat. This gentleman, grabbed a piece of paper and a pen, drew me a diagram of what I exactly I should do, left me his number to walk me through the entire process - all of this on his day off. If you are a DIYer like me, do subscribe to his channel and study his videos carefully before attempting the work - I can’t recommend this enough! I’ve been following John’s YouTube channel for a long time now. His tips and advice are superb and I’ve recently landscaped my whole garden with the help of things I’ve picked up from Johnboy. I decided to go with a local Contractor (Hampshire) to complete the final installation of sandstone paving (beyond my skill set). When I saw the result I was convinced they had made a poor job of it. John was kind enough to give me specific comment and advice on the installation which helped me to get the Contractor back in and do the whole thing again, properly (at his own cost). Truth is, I've never met Johnny! I am doing my own DIY garden project and I took a punt and messaged him after seeing his very helpful and informative YouTube videos! They have been excellent since day one and a breath of fresh air really. There were three important criteria for us price, length of time the job was going to take and how quickly the job could be completed. We obtained three quotes and decided on Green Top Landscapes because they matched our requirements perfectly. I moved into a new build which had a good sized back garden. I vaguely knew what I wanted to do but John and Alison bounced some other ideas around with me and between us we came up with something that was so much better than what I had envisaged. They came up with some great ideas to work around a few issues (strangely placed manhole covers, where to put a shed and poor soil quality). John and the guys were really professional and friendly and did a fantastic job. John suggested what sort of planting would work well and helped me out with a few small trees to start introducing some privacy. A year on and I couldn't be happier - John and Alison are now about to start work on my front garden! If I had a side garden, they'd be doing that one, too!

Greentop did a good job last year on one half of our front garden so we asked them to create some raised beds in the other half. Having worked with them before we were both comfortable with each others working methods and process. In addition to carrying out all works on time and to the agreed budget, Greentop stand out because of the design expertise that they bring. We had intended a rather boring series of rectangular raise beds but the Greentop design was a much more exciting set of interlocking beds which also tied in perfectly with the rest of the garden design.

Greentop Landscapes have built a wall, path, hardstanding and rockery on a very tricky sloping part of our front garden in December 2013 - January 2014 We decided to engage Greentop Landscapes because John and Alison came up with some excellent ideas about how to make the best use of the space. The team have been a pleasure to work with. They made amazing progress despite awful weather (the wettest December in 20 years) and have always been considerate in terms of how they work and how they left the site each day. The results have been very pleasing and we intend to engage them in the near future to build a patio to compliment the work that they have already carried out. So if we're so pleased, why not give five stars instead of four ? This is because five stars implies perfection and there were a couple of glitches along the way (which we're confident will be sorted out). These glitches in part arose from the relatively informal working relationship between ourselves and our inexperience of having this kind of work done. We're confident that next time we'll be much better at specifying exactly what we'd like and on double-checking the tiny details as we go along. If four-and-a-half stars was an option, we'd give four and a half stars.
