Reviews of Hillier Garden Centre Botley
d. R.
Once more we went to this lovely garden centre. The plants looked healthy with a large display. The staff are friendly and helpful, always willing to assist. Good offers available for members. The restaurant is clean, with a good range of food, especially the cakes!
P. B.
Brought my friend here as a bday treat... Afternoon tea was disappointing.. Lack of choice in sandwich fillings.... 2 triangles of cheese and pickle and two of egg mayo.. With crusts on! Should always be served as a finger... 2 small bites of carrot cake and blueberry I think.. And I mean literally a tiny square.. An éclair which I could have bought fromm a supermarket.. Then a nice scone with jam and cream.. £15..per person is too steep for what your providing.... You should offer more variety of fresh baked cakes and sponges even if you have to bring them in from an outside company.. However staff were friendly and very quick to clear and clean tables when customers left... Well done
K. E.
Lunch was delicious, we did have to wait a while but they were very busy. Food was delicious though. Would highly recommend, staff very friendly and helpful even whilst rushed off there feet.
A. N.
Went here for breakfast, food was lovely, plus all areas of the eating area were spotless.

The staff are lovely in there, very attentive and always welcoming, the ladies who served us at the restaurant were very professional and the breakfast there was lovely. The store layout is easy to navigate around and is spacious enough to keep social distancing, highly recommend for the garden centre as well as the restaurant, although some items can be quite dear.
c. w.
Great garden centre, good quality plants
P.
Great garden centre, lots of plants to choose from, we bought 4 this weekend, could have bought more but had to limit myself, staff are great too and wearing masks as we did :-), so were all the shoppers that we saw, nice to see people following rules. Shop again there.
P. c.
Nice relaxing experience, with friendly staff that took time out to explain stuff to us. Really nice butchers with good cuts. Overall a really nice trip out.
B. G.
Yesterday July 26th for my birthday my Daughter arranged to meet up with family and friends for this occasion. I just wanted to say how well we were looked after by Marie and her colleague nothing was too much trouble. and I had a wonderful time. Will certainly be using Hilliers again. Well done all. Brenda Griggs
M. C.
Feels very safe in current climate with one way system and layout of merchandise. Excellent restaurant with good food and lovely staff. Christmas display really good and butchers attached has great choice and reasonable prices.
F. J.
Quiet staff very helpful as always and polite. Live visiting when I need gardening items. Lovely children's activity books spent more than I thought as books too good to miss.
M. C.

M. R.
Had a enjoyable lunch. Food was tasty and has a great atmosphere and menu. Will return.
P. K.
I just went today because before the changes in the cafe. Bearing in mind, I am very sensitive to lights and sounds due to my autism, an employee’s let me go in this room which is normally a function room which meant, I could talk and communicate in the cafe. You can ask to go into that room. Really lovely service and love they have changed the menu recently to give people the chance to have toasted bacon sandwiches were removed after the renovation of the cafe. The cake selection were beautiful and very fresh. I recommend either the chocolate eclair or the chocolate slice.
K. R.
great little garden centre with a brilliant reptile shop just behind. We got to look at all the creatures including crocodiles and snakes!
P. P.
Coffee stop today, the restaurant met all Covid requirements, everyone was masked up, extremely helpful and kind.
We felt very safe and would happily recommend to others and will return soon ourselves.
Well done Hilliers 👏
S. L.
Excellent quality products and friendly helpful staff. Fabulous food in the restaurant and priced well. Thank you for your help I would definately return.
t. c.

D. R.
First visit since lockdown and it was really great. Good Covid 19 protocols and restaurant was organised so well, we felt safe and relaxed. Bought a few Christmas decorations too!! Will definitely be back soon x
M. S.
Very enjoyable, had a very tasty hot soup, also very clean, will be back.
D. I.
Went to pick up a new motor took the wrong turn and there it was plants where in excellent condition and looked after staff really accomadating restaurant was covid safe and the food was excellent if slow there was a long queue for the tills which if your of a certain age which we are with issues causes problems I'm not sure how aware management are of that but hey ho a fine place plus the pond and fish place was handy
K. P.
Lots of variety, helpful staff. Lovely restaurant. Could spend hours here.
M. Y.
Have been popping in over the last three months after our little ones swimming lessons on a Saturday morning. Food is always quick, hot and well prepared. Servers behind till are always polite and helpful.
D. W.
Good selection of plants and stuff.
Recently refurbished, some good plants on the bargain sale shelf too.
P. B.
Lovely plants and restaurant set in a great location. The staff were really helpful. Quite busy though
R. S.
Relaxed, stress free visit. They are clearly taking Covid precautions seriously however in a fashion that relaxes the customer.
I spoke to three colleagues all were brilliant.
C. W.
Very helpful staff, good value and a lovely cake 🎂
R. G.
The butcher was over priced but over all nice gardening shop
R. W.
Great place with good choices in plants and other items plus a cafe which is modern, clean and serves nice food. Staff are brilliant and on this occasion of them spent ages talking to my 4 year old and letting her "help" him water the plants.
N. H.
Convenient to get to about a mile from the center of Hedge End village. An interesting collection of other shops including a butcher's, hot tubs and Cotton Traders. Very large car park. The actual garden center is well stocked and well worth a visit.
Y. G.
The garden centre is very nice. Lots of plants and shrubs. Restaurant pleasant and light. Food and coffees good though a bit expensive I think. Could do with better chairs with cushions on.
R. D.
This was our first visit here for many years and we were pleasantly surprised. The whole place is really well organized for covid, and the staff were polite, friendly and efficient. A refreshing change.
R. A.
It's an OK garden centre however very expensive and a lot of items inside were unpriced so was off putting. There were also items there such as Xmas cushions for £30 when in InExcess they are identical and only £6!
B. C.
Okay shop lovely Resturant and polite staff
J. T.
Really well laid out garden center, knowledgable & helpful staff. Has a cafe and a fruit & veg shop. Nice place to spend a sunny hour.
A. J.
Brilliant set up and covid management.
Staff where great.
Only issue I had was not enough variation of plants for my liking.
D. N. (. N.
High quality plants, especially shrubs, but with high pricing. No bargains to be found here..... ever!!
s. c.
Lovely place to look around , and the restaurant was great, food v
l. m.
Lovely garden centre for all your needs. Peaceful and lovely arrangements and displays for the garden. Large Coffee shop inside and Card Shop and gift shop and garden supplies. Recommended as a place to visit or relax with friends and family.
L. R.
As good as my local Hillier's of course, with the added benefit of a cafe restaurant selling decent food at a decent price. Today, however, it was all about composted manure, needed to finalise preparations for the growing season on the allotment this year. To be honest, I can do without a lot of things in life, but Hillier's isn't one if them.
R. K.
The staff are knowledgable, friendly and always willing to help at Hillier Garden Centre. Good selection of gardening equipment, pots, topiaries, trees and plants. Lovely Cafe with tables both inside and outdoors. Good value afternoon tea.
P. P.
Good breakfast there, then started doing some Christmas decorations shopping ( believe it or not) I must admit we came home with some really good items. 🎅
A. S.
Fabulous place for all your garden and gardening needs. Gold medal service and advice. So much more than a garden centre. The restaurant is very good for a coffee or a snack or a full meal. Must visit place even if you have to travel to get there.
J. S.
They have the Covid procedures sorted, but ok on this visit, we decided to stop for a bit of lunch..on this occasion must be honest, the fayre wasn't as good quality as normal, hence the middling score, however the issues were addressed once pointed out... hopefully next time it'll get a 4 or 5 again..
D. E.
Breakfast wasnt anything to complain about. Although there can be a bit of a wait in the queue. Social distancing is A1. Lunch is nice too.
L. W.
Nice place to have a meal or see all the colours of a wonderful show of flowers and plants.LGW.
J.
Good selection of plants. New modern eatery quiet popular. Worth a visit
C. K. P.
Not all flowers were in display but what a start after the lockdown. Customers were pleased although they need to queue for entrance at two meters apart!
L. S.
Went to buy some plants and was served by the most wonderful polite sales assistant I've encountered for a very long time.proper traditional values similar to how I was taught to treat customers in the early 80s I think her name was Margaret.... Well hats off to you it was superb to get quality customer service, such a rarity in shops these days.... Hillier's keep hold of this lady she's an asset to the branch.
G.
Nice garden centre, nice cafe, had some clay pots in there sale absolutely a bargain, plenty of plants of all varieties, they have cotton traders and a doggy pamper parlour, hot tubs as well, plenty of parking as well.worth a visit.

Altho has brilliant indoor and outdoors plants, a huge selection. .
Plus lovely restaurant , many hours could be spent in Hilliers.
C. K. P.
Good source for all gardening needs from pots to tools. Bonus is a mobile fresh fish van in the car park on Tuesdays where you can get good quality sea foods from the friendly fishmongers!
A. F.
Excellent restaurant! New butchers and vegetable shop which looks very good.
N. G.
Excellent food and service.
A. A.
Just popped in...as we are staying locally...purchased 3 smashing plants..50% off!! Could have spent more....
D. B.
I love this garden centre they have a brand new modern cafe and a cute farmers shop
S. P.
Had coffee there with friends. Nice place & plenty of plants etc for sale.
D. L.
Typical of Hilliers garden centres, they have a vast range of plants, flowers, shrubs, trees as well as everything you need to go with them: tools, compost, etc. Their restaurant is very good for coffee and cake or lunch as well as a cooked breakfast. They have a wide range of indoor home décor products such as candles, vases, ornaments, etc. They also sell a few books, greetings cards, and calendars. My only complaint is things are often not priced indoors, such as strings of garden lights.
T. H.
Always good and very helpful
J. S.
Good garden centre wide range of plant's and bulbs ect. Shop and caf'e restaurant also very good butcher's shop. At the moment some restrictions with COVID 19. One way and distance, hand gel ect.
L. A.
The social distancing was completed well, store is well stocked and laid out and staff were friendly. We queued for about 15 mins. So not bad
V. C.
A massive thank you to all the brilliant staff. On Saturday, my father was taken ill and paramedics had to be called. Fortunately he's ok, thanks to all the staffs kindness and care.
J. W.
Pleased to see butcher and fruit and veg shop reopened. Pleased with all I bought in both. Nice place to stop for food.

Good range of things for the garden. Lovely coffee shop / restaurant, lovely fresh vegetables with roast dinner on Sunday. Could do with a few more roast potatoes and meat, but that could just be me.
N. E.
Customer service excellent. Staff polite and extremely helpful. Always with a smile which is nice. Quality of goods and food excellent. We always return for more. Thank you.
p. s.
I found the staff helpful .Good range of products to select.

D. G.
The one way system needs a bit of work. As we ended up at the tills before we have even looked around. Apart from that it was ok
T.
Nice breakfast
M. B.
Excellent value for money coffee very good and a reasonably priced menu
P. L.
Nice garden center a little expensive food served not bad
k. w.
Lots of plants to choose from helpful, friendly and knowledgeable staff.
M. T.
Car park has tiny narrow spaces, I only have normal 5 door hatchback and it won't fit in spaces without guaranteed damage to your car.
I will not be returning.
M. C.
Great place to have a lovely breakfast hot fresh cooked on site.
B. S.
First visit after refurbishment. Cafe now much larger and modern. Serves drinks and a variety of reasonably priced snacks.
Toilets vastly improved and very clean.

M. L.
Very good garden centre with excellent plants & shrubs. New coffee shop serves snacks & meals too. Definitely worth a visit.
L. C.
In my opinion the best garden centre in the area.
The plants are laid out really well, the staff are really helpful and friendly.
The cafe is really comfortable with good food, the staff are again very friendly and helpful, my only critism would be the cafe is understaffed, they seemed to be really stretched trying to cope with the lunchtime rush.
A. M.
Hilliers now has a very spacious restaurant as I a lovely place to meet with friends and relatives. Today it was very Christmassy and fun. I enjoyed my time there today.
D. L.
We have visited this centre on several occasions recently which has been expanded and refurbished to a high standard. Staff encountered have been most helpful with a friendly disposition. In particlar Kat in the plant section gave much good advice in the choosing of plants and other concerns. Well worth a visit.
Dave Leishman

Very good, I would highly recommend the hand car wash on site, leave your car with them, go for a browse and a coffee, come back to a lovely clean vehicle
D. A.
Very tidy organized place with a pleasant cafe too
J. C.
Yes was okay, plants are on the expensive side side and the cafe was bit bit samey.
Wouldn't be my first choice of garden centre unless I was looking for a specialized plant and then I would telephone beforehand to check that they have it stock.

R. O.
The people are extremely helpful and genuinely friendly and lovely. Went there to buy a snake and will not be going anywhere else
M. V.
Decent garden centre with an ok selection of plants and other garden materials. Nice cafe that does good food and also a pet and reptile centre on the same location, which is useful if you are a pet owner.
Often pop here for coffee and cake in am afternoon.
L. W.
Always a good shopping and coffee experience. Food limited bit staff always lovely. Plants are always good quality and thrive.

B. C.
Great cafe, a bit pricey and sometimes hard to get a seat
M. W.
Very good 👍and very happy with selection of plants and looks very healthy
D. N.
We went to Hilliers this morning and everything was great. The staff are friendly and helpful and we found everything we wanted. We also had a coffee in the cafe, which was as good as I have had elsewhere. If I have any quibble it is that the cafe is great on a sunny day when you can go in the conservatory area, but is rather dark inside. I have used this cafe on many occasions and never had any complaints about the food.
F. F.
Great selection of plants which were all in great condition and well looked after by friendly and professional staff 👍
m. h.

Café is overpriced for what you get, rather disappointing. I’d give the rest of the centre 4 stars, nothing amazing, nothing awful.
m. b.
Great selection and a place to have a eat and drink.
H. G.
Small but nice garden centre. There is a nice cafe on site with good service and plenty of seating. There is even a "dog cafe" section with a menu for dogs. There is also an adjoining local produce shop which is very good.
H. V.
Really nice garden centre with lots of departments, Bird shop, reptile, butchers, clothing and now happy hot tubs :-)
J. T. (.

G. D.
Very friendly and helpful. Chris was very knowledgeable in helping with our tree selection.
P. B.
Very nice Garden Center. Ample parking, Looking Christmasey and has a very nice Resturant.
R. P.
Only used the cafe...which is a non-related business to the garden centre...but was quite shocked at the prices? Sandwiches at £5ish seems a little excessive for a garden centre location...or maybe I'm just out of touch?
Staff are very friendly and helpful, lots of seating...although some of the tables in the main eating area are a wee bit cramped.
They also offer a cream tea for 2...at...wait for it...£17.49!!!
S. M.
Good for food. Easy access.
R. S.
Good garden centre with wide selection of plants and garden accessories. Shame the excellent café isnt open yet.
V. W.
Lovely gifts but tea room staff take too long to serve and the older tea room staff could try to smile abit more.
J. O.
Shop very festive but food served in odd shaped bowls to make it look as though the portions are bigger than they Are!
K. H.
As usual lovely helpful staff. Hadn't got all that we went for but came away with a few things!

C. C.
Have not been here for a long time, we went for a coffee and had a really lovely vist.
They have put a lot of money into the nursery and it looks great. A really nice restaurant which is a nice size has a much more personal real then Haskins, and food is done to order not sitting under hot lamps drying out.
Definitely worth a vist and I'm sure like me once you go you will be going back very soon.

A garden centre with a nice restaurant, good selection of garden themed gifts, quality plants and pots.
There are several other businesses on the site - a pet shop with cat dog , bird and small animal supplies and hutches, a reptile shop, a pond and aquarium shop who sells fish , a greengrocer/traditonal butchers shop, and a hot tub shop.

Sells plants and trees has a cafe
c. l.
I discovered Hillier's over 30'years ago when moving to the South. I have since been a member of their Gardening Club with its club card and newsletters and demonstrations; which I attend.
They also have an arboretum and tea rooms near Romsey where I have attended a two day course on propagation and taken the children to identify tree species.
The Botley branch has a tearoom, outdoor clothes for sale as well as a nice gift shop and garden furniture besides the usual supplies.
The staff are friendly and helpful with advise and help taking heavy items to the car.
They have given me permission to collect for charity on two occasions, undercover in their entrance way, where you will also find a wonderful butchers/local fresh greengroceries.
