Reviews of The Hop Knocker

Always an absolute joy to visit, the owners are so lovely & helpful. Unlike some pubs I feel absolutely safe there as a queer disabled woman. Everyone is always so friendly. Great selection of drinks, just ask for advice if you're not sure what to drink!

Love the Hop Knocker, very friendly, 12 taps of varied craft beers and an excellent selection of refrigerated cans and bottles. Looking forward to another visit. 5*

Cracking place and always an excellent choice of drinks to choose from...

Great selection of craft beers in stock and on tap. Unfortunately no gluten free beers but plenty ciders. There's seating indoors and a beer garden at the back. Dog friendly.

Nice small bar and shop, although definitely aiming at the more affluent clientele, cheapest ale was over £5 a pint and other much more, ⅔ pint pricing to soften the shock. Fridges well stocked with more expensive products and a bizarre £1 corkage to drink them in. (They are set at drink in price already compared to a quality bottle shop).
A. B.
Very friendly local craft beer pub with good selection on tap and in the fridge. A little beer garden round the back is great and it's dog friendly too

A warm welcome always in the Hop Knocker, brilliant selection canned, bottles and draft. If you are not sure about your beers just ask Ben, always helpful and making an excellent addition outside the city centre.

This is an absolutely brilliant little bar that caters for men and women alike. Friendly and efficient bar staff, a whole host of craft beers, and (for the ladies) Gin and tonic on draught (with real lemon !) Clientele are a big friendly bunch. Dogs very welcome. Very recommended.

Absolutely love this place! Killer rotating tap selection, amazing selection to take away on the shelves and in the fridge. Such a nice atmosphere, really cosy and THEE soundest landlord I've ever met. I come all the way down from Glasgow to this place, it really is that good. Get yourselves in and enjoy the delights of The Hop Knocker!

The hop knocker is the place to be for all the craft lovers in Durham! There is a great range of beerz local, national and international and three lines of keg rotating . The sitting area is nice and friendly. The owner, Ben, is extremely knowledgeable and friendly! I highly recommend this place and I am looking forward to my next visit!

Great place to pop in and have a couple of beers which are definitely different from the normal beers served in pubs. Ben has extensive knowledge about the brewing industry and has a wide selection of cans and bottles from around the world in addition to speciality brews on tap. Well worth going out of your way to pay a visit.

Just moved up here from the “Deep South” on my lonesome and was looking to find somewhere to get decent beer and chat.
Honestly I needn’t look anywhere else.
Ben and Laura have been the most welcoming people, and the beer is undoubtedly fantastic, both on draught and bottled/canned.
I can’t wait to spend more time with these wonderful people, drinking wonderful beer. My only regret is that I haven’t brought my vinyl collection with me to play whilst I’m there! X
P. S.
Excellent micropub, friendly atmosphere and a mind boggling selection of beers.

A jewel in Durham's crown. A peerless selection of beers, in both tap and bottle/can. Highly recommended

The Hop Knocker is one of, if not the best bottle shop in the North of England. In fact I have never been to a better beer shop. Ben, knows so much about beer he can guide someone new to the craft beer scene and make well judged recommendations, even to beer geeks like me. He has beers that you will not see anywhere else, to my knowledge, in the region.

If you wish to worship at the altar of alcohol, then make sure you visit this church of beer. Fantastic range of beers that will suit everyone and some with flavours that will make you think how, but when you taste them you will thank them that they did. A must visit.

Hop knocker is a small pub/bottle shop on the outskirts of durham city. Run by the lovely ben and laura.
The shop opened a last year and had grown strength to strength. From just two taps to a whole range of taps. One fridge and now they have several. Serving beers, from Europe and the Uk. They stock the small up coming breweries to the big brewers like cloud water.
Always a big welcome, and there's always a cracking beer for everyone.
