Reviews of Drinkmonger

Friendly and efficient...widest range of beer, wine and spirits in Edinburgh. Not run of the mill at all...this is how all modern wine shops should be

I'm so happy that I read all the reviews online and decided to come to this store (which was a quick 5 minute walk from the flat I was staying in while visiting Edinburgh) then to have shopped in one of the many tourist trap whisky shops. Aside from the fact that this shop is lovely, aesthetic and organized, the service was perfection. I walked in and a gentleman by the name of Andrew greeted me. I told him what I was looking for and he was so incredibly helpful. Andrew was very knowledgeable about all the products. He asked me what my budget was, which I appreciated, and then shared his suggestions. It was a wonderful experience shopping there and I felt I could trust his recommendations. And he did not disappoint! The whisky was excellent! I'll definitely shop here again when I return.

Largest selection of wines spirits and "accompaniments" as you'll find. Knowledgeable and friendly, helpful staff.

Friendly, incredibly knowledgable, and reasonably enough priced given the central location. Cannot recommend highly enough. I left with a few amazing bottles that I had never tried before - a conversation was well worth it!

Great shop for particular needs (mine was Rye whiskey and they had a good selection). Really friendly and informed service. Was worth the trip accross town to visit and will be back

Visited 2.6.2021. Fantastic selection of craft ales. Friendly and knowledgeable staff.

Ripping Place... like a sort of Starbucks for Liquor... good selection of Scotchs and referrals from their staff, especially limited run scotches from select distilleries outside of the overpriced fluff you can access at the duty free. Been stoping at the Drinkmonger for the past 5 yrs... kudos to the employee from Belgium who reccoded so much good scotch at good price points.

I had a very positive experience with a young man named Chris from Drinkmonger. Chris went over and above to help me, he couldn't have been more polite & professional. Would definitely recommend the business based on the service I received today.

Amazing selection of single malts. Some very unique bottles, great advice, and decently priced. People are super friendly and knowledgeable. I love this shop!

Great shop with great staff. They've got a full range of wines, beers and whisky's as well as gin, rum and all other manner of spirits. If your looking for something you can't find in the supermarket, give these guys a call. If they don't have it chances are they can get it.

So far this is the best wine shop I found in Edinburgh. They have more than enough options for my modest demands.
Inside you'll find a professional to advise you which wine to choose no matter how little information you give them. Whether you're looking for something to sip in the dark, or a perfect match for your fancy meal, or just like to chat about winemaking - this is the place.

Very helpful - listened and offered constructive ideas as I sought to expand my whisky experience.
For into: now appreciating some slightly "heavier" Islay products.

Fantastic selection of Craft Beer, Gin, Wine and Spirits. Staff are super knowledgeable and friendly. Pricing is very reasonable across the board. Basically, these guys are great, go buy their bev.

Store with very friendly, knowledgeable stuff and fair prices.

I was on holiday in Edinburgh from Canada and I came into Drinkmonger on a walking food and drink tour A Wee Taste of Edinburgh with Karly. This was a fantastic stop and we got to try some great Scottish gin and craft tonic. Rom was so knowledgeable and really brought the experience to life with his passion. A great place and definitely recommended!

I went to Drinkmongers as part of the Wee Taste of Edinburgh walking food tour, and was extremely impressed. One of the staff, Rom, done a great presentation which travelled from craft beer to gin to whiskey. Rom really knows his stuff and was great at getting this across. If you think all off licenses are the same then think again, come here for something that is just simply better than the norm.

Went in to get ingredients for a negroni and was looking for a specific type of gin. Two gents helped me more than I could have asked for. They know their stuff, so ask any questions you have. They genuinely seemed to enjoy helping me. Knew loads about vermouths as well. I cannot recommend this place enough. I’ve already been back twice. Great place to get Xmas gifts!

Drinkmonger has a huge variety of global wines, spirits, whisky and an assortment of unusual drinks. They run monthly tastings in their little alcove at the back. Its a friendly, well informed and well run environment and you are often dealing with the owner himself. Its a great place to go and buy or try.

I came into Drinkmonger as part of Karly's walking food and drink tour A Wee Taste of Edinburgh and it was by far my favourite stop of the tour. We had a little private room where we sampled various tastings. We tried some craft tonic called 'Cushiedoo's' which was delicious! We then sampled some lovely Scottish gin and craft beer. Rom was outstanding and super knowledgable. I definitely recommend this place for anyone looking to try something a little different. An absolute must!

Don't use this as my everyday offie more for a payday treat or for birthdays/chrimbos and not because it's eye waterlingly expensive, just that I can't trust myself. Lovely feeling when you walk in, all chilled, well laid out and helpful staff. Selection is amazing with extensive individual spirit sections for tequila, gin, etc. Good range of quality mixers, beers, real ales and a great location across from Bruntsfield Links/top of the Meadows for grabbing a few cold ones. Have some unusual and interesting whisky if you really want to push the boat out or looking for something a bit special. Plus they'll even offer you a taste before you buy (would recommend trying the Japanese whisky). Sign up to their newsletter for regular tastings.

Great shop. It has a great selection of drinks. The staff are incredibly helpful and know so much useful information about their products.

Great selection of beer wine and spirits. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. who go the extra mile to help you find what you are looking for or the next best (or better) thing.
R. S.
Good range of wines and beers but Drinkmonger is notable because of it's range of spirits, aperitifs and bitters etc.
If you're looking for something out of the ordinary they are definitely worth a try.

It seems like this place has changed a lot in the space of a few months within the frame work of only a year. My last visit had indeed been in the lush summer days of last years August. First of all it appears English is no longer the modus operandi in this shop. I'm only talking about workable English to get things done , to seek information buy and leave satisfied you sought what you were after and got it.
I returned to this shop in posh Bruntsfield in January 2020. On my previous visit the staff had been professional and freindly but they were all British and the demenour fit the canvas. However on my first visit back. I got the gist of a feeling that I had wondered on to the set of a ret conned pilot for Faulty Towers. The Spanish guy on duty started to go into a panic meltdown as soon as I entered the store. He did not ask if he could help me , he came out all guns blazing and adressed me in a rude , police like manner. I really did feel that I had to leave the shop at that point as I did not feel welcome or relaxed enough to continue browsing at will. To add a sense of foreign farce , perhaps , the stress prone Spaniard followed me out the door and was still standing out at the door point as I left and headed up the way.
I can only hypothise that he thought I was one of those street side dark complexion beggers you see up and down the once elegent high streets of Edinburgh -South side. However his disgusting behaviour was totally unwartented. Though I must digress , I have been on a few sun beds of late.
I returned latter that morning to make my purchase however I felt inhibitied from moving freely about the store to explore diffirent options . As the same gaurd was on duty. he did eventually help , he must have been given a bit of talken to: By the bored lass at the desk about which country he was in and in short the diverse customer base a Spaniard at work or at play could encounter in todays UK. However the second time around could not play out without a bit of comedy , to tinge things along. Asked the guy how long the wine would last once it was open . Even when it was explained to him by both me and the dour girl at the till point that , I was asking about how long it would stand as a drink once corked he kept on rabiting on about the lifetime of the wine itself in an uneopened state
.Once he knew the state of my plastic was a good one (although he was sucpicious to the end ) and I could scrub a few sentances of You Tube worthy English together to chime into his I got sorted. I doubt I would have if I was another Jonhnny Foreigner with the same wine buying intention , perhaps it would have been a full communication breakdown.
Like I said place used to be full of posh boys and a English manager , perhaps it is under new managment ? who knows. But I certainly did notice a world of difference in the experience.

I would be a genuinely sad individual if this place ever closed, it's like Willy Wonka's for grown ups. Everything you need is here and the staff are great at navigating you through it. Every time I have left this wonderful shop I have had a huge smile on my face. Thanks guys
