A nice independent bottle shop. They've got a great range of Scottish and wider UK craft beers. They also have a good selection of German and Belgian beers, as well as rotating stock of imported beer. Also have a wide wine selection and a few spirits. But I've only been for the beer. Staff are friendly and helpful

Just driving past today I spotted the shop and decided to pop in. Was greeted by the lovely Fraser who was more helpful than I could have hoped for recommending beers and wines based on one's I had already tried. Absolutely great guy! Will 100% be driving over from Glasgow to visit again!

I've been shopping at Great Grog for the better part of 10 years now, ever since I moved to the city. I can honestly say it's my favourite wine shop in Edinburgh and I still pop in for a nice bottle or two every so often. Over the past 10 years the quality has never dropped and the selection has in fact only expanded and diversified. An ample selection of high quality wines at really fantastic, competitive prices (some wine shops in the city can be silly money - not so with Great Grog). I've always recommended this shop to friends and, in particular, the range of Champagne - which is both affordable and of superb quality. The staff are always friendly and really knowledgeable about the wines and beers. I've had some great recommendations from them in the past and I really trust their judgement. Frankly, it's really hard to beat this place.

Great selection of wines and beers, all to a high quality. The staff are pleasant and good at offering advice on tasting notes, and every so often they have tastings on different wines. The prices are high, but for an understandable reason; they are well worth the money for the quality you are buying. They could do with more New World wines though, especially New Zealand.

If I could give this place more than 5 stars I would. Great service and knowledge about their products. Their selection of beer, wine and spirits is both extensive and excellent. This has been my favourite bottle shop for years. Great selection of beers and wines, friendly and knowledgeable staff. Not many other places stocking my favourite Brewery, LHG, either. Well worth the visit!

Used Great Grog for our wedding wine and was really happy with their service. James took the time to do a mini-tasting one evening and open a bunch of bottles to try, all kept within our price range. Delivery was free and on time and there was no trouble bringing back unused bottles for refund. Only slight mishap was a small number of bottles arrived late, but to say sorry we got to keep them for free – great customer service! Overall great job and would definitely recommend 👍

Since living just around a corner, it's a very convenient little shop. Staff always helpful and friendly. Great selection of wine, whisky, cider and especially craft beers from small and local breweries. There are chilled bottles too.

Superb little alcohol shop, staff is always friendly and eager to help and there is always some funky new local ale to sample. Little tabs also help you pick a wine as they describe what each one tastes like and what kind of food it goes with. Can't get more customer friendly than that.

Good wine selection of multiple grape and country origins - could have been more extensive, but good enough for finding a special match for most occasions. Staff was very kind, knowledgable enough, honest and willing to help. The 10% student discount was well appreciated! I feel that WoodWinters nearby has a comparatively better wine collection, but I definitely liked Great Grog and felt that it is good enough to warrant a visit.

Beer, wine, spirits, cider... it's a shop full of booze! It's not unusual to see a shop filled with wines but to see such a variety of beers and ciders is rare; there's also some spectacular spirits and liqueurs lurking near the till to tempt you. Knowledgeable staff make it seem bearable, otherwise you might be at risk of getting lost. Opening hours are quirky but manageable.

I don't fully understand how they manage to cram so much wine and beer goodness into such a small space. The worst thing you will experience is Option Paralysis when faced with such an incredible range of great wine, beer and spirits. The staff are always in great form too.
