Reviews of Whiski Rooms
l. c.
Definitely a more pricey find in the area but very much worth it. The food can be described as a high end take on classic Scottish pub food. Our table ordered fish and chips, burger, haggis and a steak pie. For dessert, we had sticky toffee pudding.
Only draw back was that the staff was not very attentive to the table. I think they might have been understaffed though.
Make sure you book ahead to get a spot for dinner!

Great experience.
I went for a whisky tasting. Got to taste 4 different whiskies. The presenter gives a detailed explanation about the whisky’s origination in Scotland along with many interesting facts.
I would recommend the whisky tour.
A. F.
Great food, very nice place even if a little expensive. Rib eye steak with whiski mushroom sauce was very good even if the price was not right for me. I tried the Haggis burger (to see if it was different from what I had eaten in another place). The taste was the same, a little spicy but I liked the haggis + burger combo. As dessert we took the white chocolate creme brulee and I must admit it was excellent, too bad it ended immediately.
G. Y.
Wonderful Haggis in its simple form together with neeps and tatties. Whiski Cranachan was something I would eat again and again, fragrant with whisky and honey, and well-balanced flavour with raspberries and cream. I was seated on the high table in the corner, and I enjoyed the quiet space by myself to watch the world go by. Reasonably priced at a central location in the Old Town.
R. M.
Went to the bar for whiskey tasting. They have a large list of whiskey flights with a mix of different whiskies. The staff are helpful in finding which to try that suit your tastes. It's a great way to try a lot of different whiskies. The cranachan is also well worth trying 😄
H. s.
The food was amazing; We ordered the haggis and salmon mains. Also great that they were child friendly (we had a stroller). All of that could make it a 5 star.
However giving it a 4 due to service. It felt like the servers either did not want to be there or want us to be there. It was very hard getting their attention and they didn’t seem to pleased when they were there. We wanted to order a whiskey tasting and dessert as well but left due the service vibes. Not friendly!
Food 5 (hats off the the chef! 👌🏻) service 3.
Liked the food, would not visit again,

Love this place… we visited a few years back when we first visit Edinburgh and went back again recently. Good food and wide range of whiskeys. We will recommend trying the whiskey flights. 🥰
G. L.
Good day out for lunch, I chose here as I've been before with work for our Christmas meal, and the menu suited our group of 7 with plenty choice. Nice relaxed atmosphere and everyone enjoyed it.

Warmth is one of the best feelings our human species can experience, both in the physical and emotional sense. Whiski Rooms is one of those places that exhude and engender this feeling. All thanks to the mahogany palettes all around, the soft music playing in the background, the alternating mix of sunshine and cloudy Scottish skies that innundiates the place through the glass front every few minutes. And of course, the delectable selection of whiskeys on offer.
The various flights of whiskey tailor to all tastes, from the amateur to the well-versed connoisseur (with a particularly divine smokey assortment). Pair that with peanuts and a Scottish cheese spread and you've got yourself a heavenly Apéritif, with an explosion of complementary tastes and a lingering feel-good heat throughout your body. Sprinkle on top laughter, good company, and a bit of momentary "insouciance", and it is possibly your soul that is now smiling, secretly wishing to stop time and prolong this moment...

Braised lamb shoulder and Haggis are a must try!
Extremely juicy and tender meat.
Had read online to try Haggis at this place and it was up to my expectations.
R. B.
Food was overall ok. Scotch egg was over cooked, but the steak and ale pie was nice; my mom really liked the lobster Mac.
A. A.
Great place for whiskey tasting and small bites.
The place is beautiful, the personel is great and everything we tasted was of excellent quality.
You should visit it!
R. M. (.
Some of the best food we had in Edinburgh. Anyone who wanted to try traditional Scottish food I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

So,.myself and my friend thought to have a local dish and one Google's suggestion was Whiski Rooms. We decided to go for the Haggis, neeps and tatties. First thing, we got lucky to get the last table and learnt immediately that reserving a table before visiting is is wise decision. Their customer service personnel was top notch, coordinated and helpful. We placed our order and got served like Ina minute or two, it was quite fast to be sincere. The almighty Haggis tasted nice and myself and my friend liked it.
D. D.
Fantastic place. Delicious food and interesting selection of whisky. Highly recommended!
E. M.
Love this place, been a few times, today is our 25th wedding anniversary and the Whiski Rooms was our first choice
g. h.
Food was delicious. Had the three way salmon starter. For mains we had the haggis and the lobster mac and cheese. My new favourite cocktail is the gingerbread auld fashioned. The staff were also really friendly
F. M.
Easily one of the best meals I have ever had, highly recommend this place.
S. K.
The haggis neeps and tatties were amazing, with a great whiskey. The staff are fast and attentive. Great place.
L. C.
Great food and drinks and a nice service. However, we were a little anoyed because it was so loud and noisy. It's difficult to talk to each other while at the other tables people are almost screaming at each other.
E. L.
Have a great time with Shaun during the whiskey tasting experience. He’s very friendly and welcoming. It’s so much fun. We all enjoyed it. It costs £30 per head. Highly recommend!!!
M.
Cozy whisky bar with an impressive selection of whisky. Knowledgeable staff and lotttssss of whisky to try 👍 will be back!
J. S.
Nice enough place but we felt it was over priced for what we got, had to order side of potatoes to complete the dish. Food was good. We had to ask for service as we had sat for ages without being asked for drinks or for our order, the server then had an attitude. Said I’m not the only person working here! Was amazed that a £33 bottle of wine was simply poured in glasses, no request to taste. Was a Disappointing service overall.
P.
Friendly staff who genuinely want to help you find the best whisky for you. I had a lovely time chatting to them and discussing and tasting different whiskies
a. y.
Quiet bistro, good for meeting and chatting with friends, good experience, whisky is worth coming back.
M. B. M.
Went for Whisky tasting with 4 people - great if you are interested in whiskey and hearing about interesting facts about them. You’ll also learn how to properly nose, taste and differentiate each one.
However not for people who get bored easily but you do get to try some great whisky & chocolates and hear about them!
E. P.
Lovely place for an evening meal. We had the classic haggis and were so impressed.. Cocktails were perfect; my partner ordered a whiski Auld Fashioned, and I had the Blood and Sand.
The atmosphere was great, and the service was quick and unobtrusive. 100% recommend.
E. P.
A fine place to get some whisky flight and a snack (we didn’t eat a full meal here).
T.
Excellent fillet steak and red wine, the salad dressing is to die for. Pint of moretti bang on too.
M. O.
Had dinner with friends, the Cullen Skink soup was excellent, as well as the salmon and Mac & cheese. We didn't like the haggis spring rolls (they were very spicy and without haggis taste!) I had scotch egg for main course which was not that good. I come for the beautiful atmosphere, the whiskey and the Cullen Skink soup! Great service as well!
J. B.
Our waitress, Sage, was great. Very funny and friendly. Great service, great food, great location, cool old building.
D. “. B.
Was not disappointed when coming to Whiski Rooms for a whisky experience. The food was great and the staff we're friendly. Great selection of whisky to choose from at reasonable prices. Atmosphere was also welcoming and the location is convenient. Would most definitely return here if I'm in Edinburgh again.
M.
Food is fine, but not excellent - could use more seasoning. Service can be nice and friendly, but other guys could be rude. There is also mandatory tip of 10% which with bigger group and average quality can be discouraging
R. V.
We only did the tasting and history. Very knowledgeable and information well presented.
F. D.
Really nice place to eat and have whisky. Looks beatiful and nice staff. More than decent but not top notch food wise.
K. Ł.
Absolutely amazing customer service and really good food
C. B.
Had my very first Scottish meal in here. The atmosphere was lovely, calm and dim. Absolutely loved it!
D.
It's not bad, but it's also not worth it. I mean, it's good to try once, but I wouldn't come back. Staff was really nice, but the food was blend. The steak and the salmon were tender, but tasteless. The veggies that came with the mains, were hard and didn't really add to the dish. The Three Way Salmon and the Cullen Skink were amazing, so that saved the day.
M. O.
Probably the best place I have eaten in in Edinburgh. Great food, nice big portions and good taste. Also a broad selection of whisky including whisky tasting sets. Family friendly.
I. J.
Fancy restaurant. A little on the expensive side, but good food and good service.
A. S.
The service was amazing and both of the servers were so friendly and helpful when picking out whisky to try. The food was also really good and came out quickly. We had a real nice time.
D. O.
It's a large space with a whiskey shop and a bistrot on the way to the castle. We did not get whiskey and came for food.
I had a cheese plate, which comes with 4 kinda of cheese, quince jam, frozen grapes that taste like icecream, and crackers, and a nice bread loaf, which was huge :).
My friend got a chicken burger, which he quite disliked, saying it was rubbery. We had to wait quite a bit for out food, since they seem to have quite a bit of tourist traffic. The whole place is more on the expensive side with whiskey flights starting from 25 pounds.
K. E.
This was my second visit to the Whiski rooms after enjoying the first a couple of years ago. This time we went for a late lunch and it is still excellent. A great selection of whiskey based drinks (this time we had a whiskey and cider hot toddy) and a lovely menu of bistro classics. I had the steak pie followed by the creme brulee and both were delicious.
Can't recommend the place enough but be sure to book in advance as it is very popular.
J. D.
Fabulous traditional food with great service. He was attentive and responsive but not overwhelming. Food was quick and fresh and prices were fair. Our 1st day here but wouldn't surprise me if it's the best meal we have while we're here.
A. W.
Came here during our stay in Edinbrugh. I love scotch and this place has quite the selection. Not knowing where to start I decided to ask for recommendations. The bartender suggested one of their flights. I chose the speyside region since a few of my favorite distilleries are there. The pours are pretty generous and all were from distillery that I have never had before. The tasting card provided a good guide to each scotch and the bartender filled in the rest. Overall, we had a good time there, it just kind of suck that we couldn't order food from the bar.
J.
For a first time whiskey drinker this place was fab!
We walked in and wow, what a selection of drinks.
The staff helped out a lot and have detailed advice to our questions.
It's price rangers from £ to £££ but that's expected as the have many whiskys from all over Scotland.
K. R.
What a great find, found this little place whilst walking to our hotel, managed to book in for lunch the following day for us and our friends. Highly recommend the lamb cigars and haggis spring rolls for starters. The atmosphere, waiters and service was first class and we cannot wait to return here when we next visit Edinburgh
H. C.
Absolutely gorgoeus restaurant! Everyone in the party had a fantastic meal, full of flavour. The whisky tasting menus were fantastic. Staff very knowledgeable. Also very clean and making a conscious effort to keep the place secure for covid 19
C. M.
Great space - comfortable chairs and plenty of room. Quiet when we were in at 22:30 on a Monday night. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable, ready to answer any questions you may have about the menu, the shop, or whiskey in general. Whiskey menu includes tasting tips, a guide to Scotch distilleries, and a selection of flights for everyone from novice to connoisseur.
O. M.
Excellent three course meal and cocktails, and amazing service from Ross and Tayeeba. Cullen Skink was divine and the Ribeye steaks were perfectly cooked to order and melted in the mouth. Unpretentious food and decor. Very impressed and will be returning for sure
D. H.
Lovely steak and ale pie. Unusual haggis spring rolls which we really enjoyed.
A. P. S.
Whiskey and cheese tasting is excellent for a thorough history of whiskey making in Scotland. Very knowledgeable guide through your tasting pairings meant to give you a wide experience and I form you on what to order when you're out and about Scotland
C. N.
Random stop for a late lunch on my last day in Edinburgh, and I didn't regret it! The haggis and matched whiskey was amazing 👏
R. P.
Amazing place for tasting whiskies and eat some good food. Nice and warm and very satisfying for what concerns the tasting options. Recommended
C. G.
Delicious steak and great range of whisky (or also other drinks). Friendly and helpful staff. I'd recommend booking if you can as it gets busy but you can easily call and book or book online.
K. W.
Dinner was tasty but felt a little overpriced for what it was. The atmosphere made up for it though. The whisky mushroom sauce was darn delicious as well. Would go back for nibbles and whisky.
C. M.
Love this restaurant, good food, good service. The only problem is that they only accept credit card and for tourists this become a fortune to pay in origin country because a lot of fees. Cash would be better.
H. W.
Lovely traditional food, nice setting and amazing staff! We celebrated my dad’s 70th birthday here and the lovely waitress who was serving us really made it a great experience. Not to mention the delicious food and drinks!
M. U.
Really nice decorations and ambience. Service was great and food was really good. The whiskey sampler was also very interesting and tasty.
E. M.
Great taste of Scotland. The whisky flight was well worth for getting a taste of different whiskeys. The haggis was tasty and the cranachan was delightful.
M. B.
Nice atmosphere, very helpful staff and good food. A bit pricey but a nice option if you re at the center. Strong point the whiskey proposals for each plate
C. H.
We just wanted to say how kind the guys at the Whiski Rooms were to us on the day of our wedding. It was not long after the ceremony and we were having photographs taken in the area of just the two of us. We were tired and in need of a drink so popped into the Whiski Rooms on a whim. They were so kind to us and even let us use an area for some pictures. The wine and whisky they provided were delicious. Thank you, J and C.x
D. L.
With whisky merchandise on all the walls this place certainly lives up to its name. Inside is charming and a great relaxed place to grab a dram or a bite to eat. The food and drinks are reasonably priced and great quality. We enjoyed coming here so much we came back again the next day. Definite must visit if you are in old town.
T. R.
Very delicious scottish fare. The Cullen skink was excllent
B.
Expensive, tasting ends up being about 8-10GBP a measure, although you get four. Steak sandwich wasn't very good, I'd avoid. Nice Cajun chips.
K. S.
Came here for the Introduction to Whisky tasting, which was hosted by Kenny, who was fantastic. It was fun and informative and we had a great time, already planning our next trip, which will be Whisky and Chocolate tasting, can't wait!
R. R.
Loved our experience here, the selection of whisky and the knowledge the young front of house had was on point!
Well done... food was good too!
C. I.
Delicious haggis served with neeps and taties! Quite a great beer selection to match their extensive whisky selection. And service was definitely friendly and prompt. Overall a great dining experience.
s. p.
Excellent food and the staff were amazing . I wanted something that had been taken off the menu already so the staff got me some complementary black pudding which was great . Good price .
R. G.
Nice place just of the mile to taste various whiskeys and have a bite to eat. The Whiski Roons is set into various parts, shop, bar and restaurant. The shop also has places where you taste various whiskeys. They have a good drinks menu with plenty on Scottish ales and food was really nice. Worth a visit
J. G.
Super atmosphere and the best staff we met on our tour. NOTHING was too much trouble, even to the point of a specialised Haggis dessert for one of our cranky tour party. This is a great place that endeavors to make your stay special, and they have the team to do so.The best restaurant during our stay in Scotland, it's special.....
I. L.
We had a great chilled out dinner here. Ordered a steak, however it came well done not medium-well, considering it was pricey, But despite that it was delicious. The Malbec was fabulous and good value, the best sticky toffee pud we ever had and the whiskey was delicious. It would have been great if there was more emphasis on the whiskeys, such as having a whiskey menu on the table after the meal.
D. L.
This is a restaurant, not a bar. Nice menu, great staff and good food. We visited for a late lunch and it was full, but we only waited for a couple of minutes. Very pleasant.
A. W.
Nice service. The fish chowder and the salmon 3 ways were excellent. The burger was over cooked and the tiger prawns were over priced ... (7£ for 3 small prawns...nothing else)
The whisky trial was good and with nice explanation on each glass.
C. Y.
Good vibe and food. Salmon was a bit tasteless but fresh. Cranberry sauce in the dessert was very nice!
S. D. C.
Cozy and warm atmosphere for this lovely place just overlooking princes gardens. The staff was nice and the authentic Scottish food extremely tasty. Small selection of beers, of course, but a really big selection of whiskey and whiskey tasting menu. Fair prices. Recommend it!
Y. B.
This is one of the best restaurants we've ever been to in the UK. My daughter enjoyed the three types of salmon very much.
M. O.
Came just for drink and were given a table straight away. They offer table service but its rather slow. Huge selection of whiskies but have to admit prices are on expensive side.
P. K.
Though clearly aimed at tourists, good was decent, staff friendly and room pleasant with good views
J. R.
Stopped here after a festival show. Sat outside and had some lovely cocktails and watched the world go by. Great location.
R. S.
Really enjoyed my meal here. Service was excellent and food was very tasty. I loved the haggis. 🤩
A. W.
On the more expensive side of my budget but definitely worth it , delicious food, lovely cocktails and good service all in a lovely atmosphere.
m. p.
Fantastic deserts, friendly staff. Thank you.
R. F.
Excellent whisky list, very friendly team. It is good to see enthusiastic waiters for once in Edinburgh (too many times I have noticed they are just fed up with the tourists and only smile to regulars). The awesome lady who served us helped choose from the list and gave me her personal recommendations. Great personal and informative service. I say this because I have noticed too many places in Edinburgh have huge whisky lists but then nobody in the team knows much about them and you are just confronted with a lot of info and you don't know where to start. Will be coming back!
G. S.
Cool atmosphere with awesome whiskey flight selection. Nice price range of whiskey for those who know nothing up to those who want a higher level experience. Had some awesome cheese plate on the side. A great way to wind down after walking around Edinburgh all day. They seem to fill up so either get there early or make a reservation
A. N.
Came with no expectation as to what this was going to be like (went with some American friends visiting the city who just told me where and when to turn up) but I was very pleasantly surprised. I am not an avid whisky drinker, so was unsure it was going to be for me, but I really had a good time. It was an hour long experience with 4 whiskys to sample. Each had its unique flavours, aromas, and our host had the right balance of humour, charm, and passion for the liquid that even the amateur drinkers could feel like an expert. My wife was the designated driver and was allowed to attend for free, which was a nice touch. I would recommend this experience to anyone who is visiting the city and wants a flavour of Scottish whisky history.
D. A.
Incredible steak, great chips and sauces (Ardbeg mushroom mustard and the pepper sauce), the best veggie haggis I've ever tried. To top it all off, I thoroughly enjoyed whiskey flight 4. Prices for all but the steaks are very reasonable and the cocktails were fantastic too. Can't rate it highly enough.
E. S.
Friendly, warm reception, big selection of fine whiskies to taste!
Just drinks for us! Worth visiting!
B. K.
Great Food, Great Service, Great Atmosphere. Loved every moment.
S. K.
Good food, nice/clean restaurant near the mile.
M.
Great meal, relaxed atmosphere, friendly service.
J. W. L.
wanted to experience scot traditional food. was very satisfied with what they offered. would like to come again.
D. C.
Old pub and finest place to try whiskey tasting and one of the premium whiskey and scotch. Found lot of premium and old Scottish whiskey. Best place to try whiskey tasting and get little knowledge…
Recommend for tourists!!
D. O.
Fantastic food. Ample portion sizes (the fish looks smaller than it is because the plates are large). Quick and attentive service. Recommended.
K. G.
Absolutely amazing food and service. Their lamb is so tender it just falls apart when you touch it. Highly recommend Whiski Rooms.
H. R.
Overall good, haggis was nice, very different Scottish dish. Whiskey's tasting experience was good too but we found it on the expensive side. Even the rates for other dishes are a tad higher than what it should be probably.
s. g.
Lovely ambiance, staff very attentive, food amazing, cocktails went down too well. Would highly recommend
S. N.
Good food and Whiskey tasting. Friendly atmosphere and staff. Highly recommended.
S.
Went in for a quick beer and snacks on September 1st 2020. It is located right below the royal mile Street.
Nice atmosphere, busy but well maintained social distancing rule.
Great place for a quick bite, drinks or dinner.
J. J. S.
Superb food! Really attentive waiter. All of their recommendations were spot on. When the Haggis. For the part of town it is in the prices are reasonable.
M. M.
As always lovely ambience, food and excellent whisky. Staff were so friendly and helpful.
V. M.
Beef pie was good. Mash was cold.
Wasn't a fan of the tartar sauce. Too much lemon.
D. W.
Highly recommended. Reasonably priced whisky and very kind, helpful and competent staff.
K. B.
An elegant restaurant with a fantastic menu. We had the Haddock, and Steak & Ale Pie which were cooked to perfection, followed by the Whiski Cranachan for dessert which was a dream. Enjoyed the nice background music too. Very nice scenery from the restaurant overlooking Edinburgh. In a good location near various Edinburgh landmarks and a short pleasant walk from our hotel Premiere Inn hub.
B. M.
Everything was perfect from food to services and the ambiance. And the mega + was the whiskys discovery test at the end 👍🏼
C. O.
Me and my partener had an excellent meal on Saturday evening.
The staff was really nice and the food was amazingly tasty. Our ribeye steak and chicken breast were delicious, also their bread is top.
The place is warm and cozy with a romantic atmosphere.
We'll definitely go back! 👍
J. S.
Great whisky flights. Martin and Kyle were extremely helpful. Vegetable haggis rolls were perfect bites. Would definitely stop here again.
J. M.
Fantastic steak. Staff lovely and great atmosphere.
K. J. C.
Nice cozy vibes for an afternoon beer&whisky stop after a long walk . Haggis spring rolls are good too. Definitely will come back for a full meal experience. Staff are friendly, fast service and good food selection.
A. K.
Very competitive pricing for Ardbeg whiskies. They also serve some decent cocktails. Good place for an afternoon dram.
M. B.
Delicious veggie haggis and yummy coctails. Nice seating and relaxed vibes. Staff were friendly and attentive
M. L.
Great food, great atmosphere first class staff.
J. M.
My favorite meal so far in Edinburgh. The food was amazing I got a filet and my wife got a lobster. We also both got dessert which was also amazing. The staff made the experience even better. They were extremely friendly and fun to chat with. Our waitress Kim was so friendly.
R. A.
Super food. Haggis and Cranachan were great. Service spot on.
Went again for birthday. Great service and lovely local produce cooked to perfection.
D. B.
Pricey but classy...could easily enjoy spending your savings in a laid back gentlemans/ladies club
J. I. (.
It's the best Edinburgh bar I've ever been to.
Kind employees and great service If you feel cold in Scotland, this will relieve you.
J. S.
Whiski Rooms is the prefect setting to look out and enjoy a meal, cocktails and whisky. A family of four really enjoyed the food, the steaks were the best we had when in Edinburgh, service was great, the haggis sprint rolls and the cullen skink is delicious. Fantastic experience and we will be back.
l. h.
Super restaurant serving Scottish dishes.
Beautifully presented food, by young friendly staff. Gorgeous desserts with Scottish themes. Not rushed and relaxed atmosphere. Would reccomend for a lovely meal out in a lovely part of the city!
L. M. L.
The Haggis Rolls were definitely the perfect way to finally try Haggis for the first time. Loved it by the way.
M. N.
Wide selection of whisky's and very helpful bartenders. I tried the Ardbeg Uigeadail with smokey taste and the dalmore 15 with a rather sweeter profile, which are both excellent drinks.
A. G.
Lovely setting, friendly service and really nice food. Great varied menu for both food and drink.
L. J.
Food was amazing! Highly recommend the venison loin accompanied by an Auld fashioned cocktail
J. S.
Have been there for a premium whisky tasting during our stay in Edinburgh. It was just great. Experienced and super friendly staff and a great selection of whiskies to taste; stuff you do not get to try every day. Worth every penny.
M. S.
A wonderful restaurant in Old Town Edinburgh. Great food; great service; great atmosphere.
S. M.
We did a tasting with Shaun. He was superb would throughly recommend it.
S. S.
What a great lunch! Definitely recommend the salmon trio and a nice glass of wine. The sea bass lunch was also pretty good. To top it off, the service was friendly and the place had a very comfy, chill vibe. Will definitely be back and maybe even try some of the whisky!
r. f.
What a fantastic whisky tasting this afternoon. The guide was very knowledgeable about his whiskies and was extremely fun with his commentary
K. K.
Just around the corner from the Royal Mile, I found a seat and enjoyed a tasty dinner. Steak and ale pie with truffle mash. So good. Nice relaxed atmosphere. Not loud.
D. E.
Great atmosphere with a huge selection of whisky and table service
D. C.
Stopped in for lunch and it was great.
Excellent menu and all well prepared and a overall tasty.
Very friendly staff too, I'd definitely recommend considering here.
R. T.
We popped in for a quick drink and warm, ended up staying longer and went back later that night. Fantastic drinks, chilled setting and very friendly staff. Didn't get chance to eat there but will definitely return and try next time in Edinburgh
M. W.
We took the opportunity to try some flights of Whisky in the Whiski Rooms. Lovely staff and a shared platter of appetizers made the stay even better. The flights come with tasting notes, so you know what's going on.
K. D.
Online menu is misleading. Burger bland and less than average. Nice staff.
M. P.
One of the best whiskey experiences I have had in a while. Even though I didn’t book a tasting ahead Sean was insanely
Knowledgeable and helpful in helping to pick out some special bottles to try and some special drams to taste. Just great vibes all around- highly suggest coming here before anywhere else on your whiskey trail! Also book a tasting there!
M. K.
The lobster mac and cheese had so much tasty meat, highly recommend

Did the whiskey and cheese tasting.
Was a fun and informative tasting. Staff were very knowledgeable about whisky production, distilleries, tastes, etc. Was a lovely event. Would recommend to anyone.
J. L.
Visiting from Australia, found this place to be overall excellent. Friendly staff. Food was high quality with good portions. Cool atmosphere. Highly recommended!
K. P.
Our first ever meal in Scotland and was it good! Haggis spring rolls for me and 3 ways salmon for the wife, stunning starters and the mains got better. Venison loin for the wife and shoulder of lamb for me both cooked in a delicious jus. Staff and service first class. Highly recommend this beautiful establishment. 1 - 0 to Scotland.
J. M.
Good food. Service was good also. Not a great deal of product knowledge on the whisky sorry to say I new more than the poor guy. I felt the whisky bar was an inconvenience and I may have been a
nuisance as there were only three staff and it was quite a busy lunch service
Anyway glad it wasn't as touristy as I thought it night be
J. S.
I did the whisky tasting + cheese pairing, fantastic experience! The guide was extremely knowledgeable and entertaining.
M. S.
Delicious dinner, very good service. Booked a reservation through Open Table and was able to walk right in. Great location as well.
A. G.
Brilliant food and great service, very good value for money. I had the haggis (for the first time) and thoroughly enjoyed it, my friend had thr steak pie and loved it. Would highly recommend, reservation required.
F. M.
Great food, and large selection of Whisky.
J. B.
Huge selection of whiskies, flights at reasonable prices and good whisky cocktails. They have bar snacks to order if you want something to munch on while you are sipping, but we did not have any snacks. Beautiful views from the outside and luxurious inside.
D. L.
Lovely food, good service and wide range of whiskies on offer. I had haggis neaps and tatties. Beautifully presented and delicious!
K. T.
Whisky tasting experience combined with good food and services. Thanks! Will return.
V. K.
Amazing whisky bar in a great central location. Comprehensive selection of whisk(e)y from across the world and a delightful array of Old Fashioneds. The staff are incredibly helpful and friendly, always a great option for high quality drinks.
L. F.
We arrived just shy of 30 mins early for our introduction to whisky tasting and had a drink in the bar. We asked the waitress who served us twice if we should go through to where the tasting is held and checked we are okay to take our drinks through if not finished and both times the waitress insisted she would let us know when it’s time to go through as they weren’t ready yet and it was fine to take drinks in.
Unfortunately we were forgotten about despite the reminders and then when asking for a third time told we had better be quick and go through because the tasting had already started over ten minutes ago. The waitress then ran through and interrupted the tasting 5 mins later and insisted we pay for our two drinks which we had taken through then and there even though we had to exit at the end via the bar.
Tasting was good and the gentleman hosting was very knowledgeable but a shame to have missed the start due to poor service.
C. P.
Nice avocado & salmon salad. Crème Brulé could do without the rhubarb.
J. K.
Amazing whiskey tasting. Shaun was knowledgeable and fun! We learned a lot and enjoyed our tasting.
L. J. v.
Awesome place. Nice whiskies, good service, plenty of selection. A good taste of Scotland. I wished they would play background ceilidh or celtic music though, my only gripe.
M. B.
Cool place to visit if you like whiskey.
E. W.
Very nice place, really good food and reasonable pricing! Good waiters, very serviceminded.
Only negative I can say was the Bearnaise source I had together with my tenderloin, it was not a proper Bearnaise.
J. W.
Stopped by for a quick lunch and had a very good experience. Good service, reasonable prices and very good portions! The drinks menu was also very good, with lots on offer, even for a novice whisky drinker.
J. S.
We had the Whisky and Cheese tasting and it was an absolute great experience. The served whiskys were quite special and no standard whiskys as you might get in other places. The cheese as well was delicious and a great complement to the drinks. The host and crew were very competent, funny and friendly. We had a lot of fun and even our one friend who doesn't like whisky had to admit he enjoyed the tasting very much. The next time we visit Edinburgh, we will definitely visit Whiski Rooms again. Greetings from germany.
S. L.
Fantastic selection of whisky. Beautifully appointed bar. Excellent views. Great attached shop with knowledgeable staff. Recommended!
C. D.
We LOVED this place!
We're not whiskey drinkers but thet have a great selection for all ranging from introduction to connoisseurs.
We went at a time when Edinburgh was under Scotland's Level 2 Covid restrictions so precautions were understandably necessary. At the time we went, bookings were compulsory but (given the quality of what we experienced) when restrictions are lifted, I would definitely book to avoid disappointment!
The meal we had was reasonably priced for the quality of what was on offer. I had salmon and my wife had chicken and both were absolutely delicious - so good in fact that we booked a meal for the following night there and then.
We are now making plans to visit again and without question, we will be eating here again.
J. J.
Squeezed us in, last minute. Amazing whiskey menu. Beautiful food.
W.
The waiting staff were very friendly, always smiling and relaxed. The atmosphere of the restaurant was pleasant, and the decorations were very charming.
The food was great quality, every dish our party ordered was excellent. Would definitely recommend their steaks and the haggis.
The menu wasn't cheap, however the quality of the food and service was definitely worth it.
E. A.
The best rib-eye steak I have tried in a long time.
G. S. T.
The food was absolutely delicious. Traditional high quality Scottish food, with good portion sizes and lots of flavour.
The staff were lovely and the ambience is cosy.
The only downside was that the service was slow. It took about 20 minutes for our drinks to arrive and over an hour for our mains. This is despite the restaurant only being half full.
If the service had been better it would have been a 5 star review.
M. M.
Awesome food. .great whisky experience. Good food. Service people very helpful!
D. K.
Went to the Whiski Rooms on the 30th of September with my wife. The food was excellent staff we brilliant and the whiskey plentiful. Had a great night thanks to the staff and the back room staff chefs and all. Thanks for a great evening.
T. S.
Proud to be there
Legendary place 🥃👍
R. J.
Dropped in without a reservation and was treated with a night of great service, food, and drink. The staff were attentive and full of Christmas joy! Thank you for a wonderful start of the Christmas weekend!
J. B.
I have to say, our waiter was excellent. I am not a big whiskey drinker but he was great and brought me two different whiskeys that were perfect for me. I shared a steak with my girlfriend and it was perfect. All around great service and a great atmosphere!
R. B.
As someone who works in this trade I know how hard things are right now and tonight was a masterclass in how to handle difficult guests. If I was the guy working far more people would have been told to get to Falkirk. The food was amazing and the service was stellar. Well done
D. I.
Great atmosphere and friendly staff. They were very accommodating of my three month old granddaughter. The food is always great, but a couple of people said the steak pie was just okay.
I've been a few times, just as a couple as well as in a group of 11, and the place felt right each time.
D. S.
Great! Cozy atmosphere, great stuff. Snaks were delicious, but no food in here :)
P. M.
Kim was fantastic. Scots hospitality with Yorkshire wit. The perfect combination. The food is great too. This is one place you cannot miss when you visit the Old Town
B. E.
Really good quality of food and great service. We had a blond girl who recommended a whisky sour cocktail to us that was really nice as I said I'm not a big whiski drinker and she understood what I meant and recommended something that was really tasty. We had a great seat by the window and it was priced as you would expect this quality food to be priced. Spot on and I'm coming back with my husband and my sister and her husband in 2 weeks. Thanks!
A. J.
Quite pricy but you pay for the experience. Food portions are good and everything we ordered was tasty. Whisky tasting plates were well executed. Recommended.
R. S.
Food and drinks were excellent.Service was good but could be better. Will go again, just hope next time we don't have to wait so long to order.
j. l.
Fantastic range of whiskeys to choice from. Staff have a fantastic understanding of the range of whiskeys they have and are more than happy to assist in your selection. The food was excellent and our waitress Kim was exceptionally. Very highly recommended
J. S.
Fabulous food well presented. Great atmosphere and very attentive staff would recommend a visit anytime ive been before and will be back soon
J. J.
Excellent meal with good friendly service
D. D.
Pretty good haggis, the sauce added a whole new level of taste for this dish. Average service.
B. H.
Well decorated venue with a very tasty menu and a large selection of whisky. Try the Cranachan for dessert! 🇦🇺
S. a. N. S.
Arrived without booking, and by accident as we were heading for the mash place, which was closed, despite a notice saying to use the door 2 down, The Whiski Rooms? 😁
So haggis spring rolls, half a lobster and fish and chips, 2beers and 2 whiskies later.
Thank you very much 😉
M. T.
I recommend to try the local cider, especially the one made in whiskey barrels. The best cider ever!
M. E.
Great selection of whisky that changes regularly and helpful advice from staff. Reasonable prices and tasty food, especially the cullen skink.
A. F.
Waitress was very helpful in choosing whiskey (of which there's a vast selection) and gave friendly service. Food was amazing, as were the whiskeys - try the flights for something different or if you're unsure what to get.
Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting a taste of Scotland. I'm thinking of excuses to go back!
E. R.
We have only ever had drinks here when we have visited but it is by far one of our favourite places in Edinburgh to go for a drink. There is a large menu, staff are very friendly and welcoming and it feels like a cosy place. The COVID arrangements put in place during our last visit were very good.
Y. B.
Great dinner options. Nice ambiance. Great Service. Unbelievable Haggis (at least to a good food lover Frenchman)... accompanied by some of the most surprising whisky. My buddies and I had a great time and will sure come back some day!
M. P.
It's been a while since we last ate here, but the meal was, no, IS still so memorable. The two best beef steaks I've ever had in my life, were both enjoyed in Scotland. The first one was in Kelso, but the best was a 32 day hung sirloin, which I greatly enjoyed here at the Whiski Rooms, back in 2012. So memorable, it's the benchmark to which I measure all steaks. I only hope our next visit is as indelible as that one.
P.
My review only refers to drinks. We visited after dinner so did not have any food here.
Great service the whole time. We were warmly greeted as we arrived and shown to a great table in the window. Drinks were absolutely gorgeous and the choice on offer was incredible! Beautifully made cocktails as well as the almost infinite choice of wines, whiskies and other spirits.
Highly recommended.
J. B.
The decor was cool and it is in a really Central location. I didn't rate the food and the staff were ok, but I've been blessed with really friendly staff in other places! The food did what it said on the tin but there was nothing exciting about it, didn't feel fresh or interesting. Cool place to hang out for a while.
I. T.
Fabulous evening, highly recommend this spot. Perfectly cooked food, locally sourced with their providers written on the board for you to see. I had the venison which was perfect, and my.psrtner the ribeye steak which was cooked to his liking and was a generous portion. After dinner, we ordered a whiskey flight to finish - something I'd recommend here to anyone who either loves whiskey or wants a great Scottish experience as part of their meal. The choice of flights was extensive, and well curated with tasting cards to walk you through the smells and flavours. Would definitely come again, for both a meal and for a whiskey tasting/flight.
K. J.
Loved it - one of the best meals I've had. Gorgeous Scottish cuisine and a great relaxed atmosphere. I appreciated the whiskey pairings in the menu for each dish too. Definitely recommended even for non whiskey drinkers too.
M. T.
Excellent selection of whiski, from all over Scotland with instructions too match. I would recommend getting a flight and starting there
A. t. a. m.
Great steak , one of the best i ever take
H. M.
Great selection of whiskies. Had a gingerbread old fashioned and a coffee. Both delicious. Sad that they don't really do vegan food but the staff were very friendly about it and very attentive in taking our drinks orders.
J. R.
80% tourist trap, 20% place to have access to a bunch of whiski*
Z. W.
Booked in for an evening meal. Service was good, food was red hot which I love, but my main was a bit bland macaroni cheese, I can make a better sauce. My partner had steak which he said was good. Limited choice of cider. Place needs a bit of loving care in the cleaning department
L. W.
You'll definitely want to make a reservation. The food is good, especially the desert. Unfortunately we had a really long wait (there were 5 of us and it took over 40 minutes to get our food after we ordered) but the staff and service over all was really good. We just did a whiskey flight but they do offer whiskey tasting. Overall we were happy with the experience.
D. S.
Had a great whiskey flight sampler here in July. Excellent service, a fine bar, a fun evening.
D.
Some items are great value, some less so, but the food is great. Be sure to reserve if you can.
The two of us had a Hot Toddie at the bar while waiting to see if we'd get a table or not - it was a Saturday, so it took some table wizardry, but we got a table.
The Whisky Taster Flights are good if you know nothing about Whiskey, but otherwise are somewhat pricey, though it is in the middle of town and a prime tourist activity.
The Haggis and the Steak were fantastic, so good that I regret the £4 for the steak sauce I didn't need. Avoid the Salmon three ways starter, as it's a lot of money for a tiny bit of fish!
S. K.
Cullen skink one of the best soup I have ever tried! Amazing journey through whisky tastes with warm and friendly service. I would reduce price for drinks. Anyway highly recommended!
T.
Visiting from the states, and some friends in the area brought us here. Being a Scotch novice, it was a great opportunity to taste a variety of things and the server was very knowledgeable and helped me understand my preferences and tastes as we explored various categories. In the end I walked away with a greater appreciation for the varieties of Scotch. We're eager to visit again. Great city! Great place to have drinks and explore Scotch!
A. F.
The Haggis is a modern, touristified version, good but not prepared in a sheeps stomache. The sauce is excelent, while the potato mash is very bland. The Steak and Ale pie is more like a very good gulash, heavy on the Worcestershire sauce, served with a puffy pastry on the side rather than a traditional pie crust.
C. “. E.
Solid experience. The staff squeezed us in before the busy hour, and were quite polite and helpful.
The burger wasn’t bad, but the wife’s Lamb was on point!
Nice atmosphere, plenty of good beers and Whisky to choose from!
M.
I've been here a hand full of times with friends, anniversary and through work. I've never been disappointed from walking through the door to reviving my bill. Great venue inside, with a good choice of Scottish and British menu. A huge selection of whiskies and other drinks if you're not a fan of whisky.
E. L.
We have joined the whisky tasting and the experience is great! Learned so much and Kenny ( the guide) is very professional and knowledgeable. We enjoyed it so much!
L. M.
How do I start on this one. 1st it's a stone away from the train station, bar and restaurant well divided.
Onto the menu, extensive menu, lots of different and local dishes, amazing flavours.
Being in Scotland I couldn't shy away from whisky, every dish chosen where with whisky which gave it a nice smoky taste, and I also discovered a great Scottish stout.
The service was amazing and the waiter was super knowledgeable and recommended great drink with the meal
N. (.
Overall very good and fancy, bit pricey.
B. P.
I have visited twice in a many times to Edinburgh this last year. This is a very nice pub to enjoy a tasty bite or even a heavier meal. The service is great and the experience was just a bit better than your typical high end pub.
H. D.
Cozy place, great for small groups or a romantic date! The waiter was awesome and the food was delicious. Lobster Mac and cheese had plenty of chunky bits of lobster. The best part was the whisky flight. I am a completely fresh whisky drinker and have always had a hard time drinking it but the flight was sooooo good. If you don’t go for the food, then definitely go for the alcohol!
K. D.
Went for a birthday dinner and was a little disappointed that they didn't really do anything to honour birthdays. The staff definitely knew their whiskey and they've got almost everything you can imagine. Food was ok- a bit pricy for what you get. The starters were amazing - had fish soup and haggis spring rolls. Mains we had haddock and chips which would have been loads better from a fish&chip shop and we had a burger which was just okay- have had better in other places. Nothing phenomenal about the food so come for the drinks.
A. K.
Amazing drinks, wonderful atmosphere, friendly and welcoming staff!! Couldn't recommend more. One of my favourite places to visit when I'm in Edinburgh. 10/10
H. K.
Friendly waiter advised average single malt at a rather high price
D. M.
Nice restaurant with a big whisky theme. Even if u don't like whisky there is plenty favourite Scottish meals on offer. Price was definitely worth it but one criticism is that there isn't much thought that goes into the cuisine, a lot of standard fare, however the food I had was really tasty. Great central location too, view is niceand service was great. Maybe a wee bit touristy too.
y.
Pleasant and friendly environment. Nice food and lots of whisky to choose from.
L. C.
Great food. Good selection for veggies. The service was top notch. The whisky experience was enjoyed. A good night out.
G. H.
The food is okay. There are restaurants in the area of equal or better value.
The room where they sell whisky is again, okay.
The salesman knew their whisky but so did most of the whisky shops.
It's kind of out of the way so we thought we would find a gem as this was recommended highly.
But I found it average, and probably would not return.
M. L.
Excellent venison and haggis. Sticky toffee pudding was wonderfully fluffy too. Cocktails and drinks were well made.
T. H.
We happened upon Whiski by chance, thanks to a broken oven at another restaurant, and boy was it a great fluke. Immediately, we felt warm and invited with the faint scent of malted spirits in the air. We went all out on this one, and tried everything from each course - including a whisky sampler from the big four regions. The food was rich and delicious, coming out piping hot from the kitchen. We spent nearly two hours, and enjoyed every delicious minute.
Q. L.
Amazing whiskey options and a great place for beginners! They have lots of info in booklets to teach and guide you based on flavor preferences. The snacks were great and staff was friendly. The attached whisky shop has a solid selection too
J. L.
Great food and excellent service, highly recommend for a lovely dinner.
After being to this place more than once I've discovered it can be a little hit and miss with the meals. Still a nice place, but the food quality can be slightly different on different nights.
E. L.
I had the vegetarian haggis, with extra root veg, and it was beautiful! Best meal I've had.
Decor in the main restaurant is nice, whiskey themed but not tacky at all.
Some parts towards the back of the restaurant are getting old, that's the only negative I have.
Lovely evening 👌
j.
Awesome! Great atmosphere, our waiter spoke whisky and was super helpful and gave us an upgraded whisky flight for no added cost! Highly recommend if you want a great dram or flight.
S. Y.
Whisky tasting menu that was a great experience and a good place to start learning about different whiskys. The tasting notes were a nice touch.
S. C.
Knowledgeable host for the whisky tasting, relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Did the chocolate and Scotch pairing, thoroughly enjoyed it. Would recommend if you're even slightly interested in trying out a few very different Scotches and learning about how they're different.
C. H.
Very nice food, staff were amazing. Super quiet when I was in during the week for lunch so not very good for atmosphere but meant service was extremely quick
E. F.
Really top quality food. How do you make an ordinary French fry so awesome? Also the staff and atmosphere are tops. We like to place so much, we ate here twice during our two-day visit.
D. A.
The food is good and ambient is great. The staff are very helpful. The whisky is great.
M. T.
Wonderful environment and great selection of whiskeys. The food is also very good but you do need to reserve as it can get quite busy. Great for whiskey tasting but a bit pricey. Given the location though prices are ok. Would go again.
Y.
Fairly underwhelming dining experience.
We were on a rare weekend away in Edinburgh and chose this place for our Saturday night meal largely because of the 5 Star reviews posted on here. Unfortunately, it seems people are being far too generous with their ratings as this was far from being a 5 Star Experience.
The food was merely average, in terms of both quality and portion sizes, and while most of the staff were attentive and efficient the same could not be said of the man who appeared to be the manager. He was the first person we encountered on our arrival and displayed no awareness of how customers should be made to feel welcome, not even offering anywhere we could hang our coats.
Levels of cleanliness in the toilet areas also left a lot to be desired, especially given their proximity to the kitchens.
The overall impression is of a place that, due to its location on Edinburgh's tourist trail, doesn't have to make any real effort to get customers through the door. Based on the inexplicable amount of 5 star reviews on display here it would seem these are not the most discerning of critics.
J.
Amazing whisky tasting with knowledgeable and entertaining staff and great atmosphere. Special mention to Sean (unsure of spelling) for a memorable trip into the history of Scottish whisky and an unforgettable experience overall. Will definitely come back next time, highly recommended and the highlight of our trip.
K. F.
Good food, lots of whisky (although I wasn't really drinking so hardly made the most of it!)
Friendly service too.
Mac n cheese with lobster!
Steak!
Only complaint is the 'pie' was one of those pots of filling with pastry on top. When did this become ok??? Bring back pastry wrapped pies!!!
J. M.
Went for a Cheese and Whisky Tasting. Had a fantastic afternoon. We arrived early and sampled a Smokey Martini - Wow! Not cheap but friendly, knowledgeable staff. Recommended as a treat or an introduction to good whisky for visitors.
Wheelchair access is awkward because it's on a hill. The toilet is on the lower, restaurant level. The bar is in the middle and the shop/tastings on the upper level. Wheelchairs need to go outside to move between levels. Not a major problem and staff helpful but worth being aware of (I'm an independent chair user).
G. D.
Great food and drink at a reasonable price. Attentative, friendly staff always willing to help made our dining experience there a pleasure
C. K.
Staff was accommodating and sat us quickly (no reservation and busy Friday night), so points there. Food was only slightly above the typical fare you’d expect from a tourist trap on the mile - only meh. No service checks during the meal, no one asked to refill our drinks/water. You could do worse, but not much.
M. S.
Excellent whisky tasting selection. Very staff.
G. T.
Great service. Highly recommend the salmon appetizer, the lamb shoulder for the main was also fantastic. Great place for any whiskey aficionados or tryers alike with a wide range of options. Menu has whiskey pairing recommendations.
T. B.
Great whisky selection and well curated flights, great cocktails, too... after that things went downhill. Total disconnect between wait/bar/kitchen staff. Zero front of house control. Ribeye was criminally under-seasoned, steak pie wasn't a 'pie' at all just a sweet beef stew with a bun on top and the side salad was dressed in plain olive oil. A tiny loaf of bread for 5 quid was a slap in the face.
S. S.
The food was great but the service was just ok. The steak pie was phenomenal and the haggis spring rolls were yummy. We enjoyed some flights of scotch we’d otherwise not had. The service was slow and when I got the wrong drink I was told I didn’t but it was still a good cocktail.
K. M.
Excellent food, drinks and atmosphere.
J. P.
Kim was great. We did not have a reservation and it was busy but ahe set us up in a private area and was magnificent with whisky suggestions sinve none of was were whisky drinkers. Then had a great meal of fish and chips, meat and more whiskeys. Highly recommend this quaint place
S. D.
The food was really good but the staff especially the manager were miserable and not very welcoming to the point where it felt awkward being there. He complained to us about the government eat out scheme, I didn't really want to hear it tbh. Only reason it's 3 star is the food only.
S. W.
A great place to visit, eat and try some whisky. The booking service was very friendly and accommodating. A must visit if in Edinburgh!
K. K. N.
Lovely lil place with a nice old school charm to it. Great place if you wanna have a nice whiskey tasting experience or just wanna have a pint with a bite. Stopped here for a drink and a small bite, ended up having a mushroom soup that was the best I've ever had. The staff were excellent and would highly recommend!
E. G.
A lovely place for an whiskey tasting night.
R. B.
Just what we needed on our last day visiting Edinburgh! Stopped in for lunch after a hectic weekend of traveling and touristing; this place was just what the doctor ordered! Superb service from the world's friendliest waitress, excellent home made burger with incredible truffle oil and parmesan fries, and one of the best hot toddies I've ever had to finish it off! Really nice vibe in the restaurant too - although it was busy, it made for a good buzz in the room, and that didn't have any negative effects on service whatsoever. If you're around by the castle and royal mile, please go to Whiski Rooms and see for yourself!
S. A.
Very nice place. If you're looking for a place to eat Scottish food, this is definitely worth it! Very good haggis and whisky.
N. M.
Incredibly helpful and knowledgeable staff. Know all there is to know about their whisky. I'm one of flights and drink options, even if you don't want whisky. I feel they could have given less alcohol for the flights; you get 4 full glasses, which is a lot for one person, as you understand the taste with half as much. But they had a great variety
C. B.
Great food and great service fillet steak is amazing
M. A.
Great ambiance and great scotch selection. We tried a testing menu recommended by staff and really liked it. The atmosphere is very cosy and the staff is also friendly. Best time to go is late in the evening just after dinner as the place is nice and quiet - very relaxing. Our pick of the lot was Ardbeg uigeadail - awesome peated whisky.
I. S.
Nice drinks and nice atmosphere. Unfortunately quite a rude service. Slight snobbish attitude. Whilst being rushed to order last drinks at 21.30 I asked for a whisky recommendation, “something nice and smokey like Talisker”. The response was “Well Talisker isn’t nice and smokey”. So I said “okay what would you recommend then...” The gentleman recommended an older and more expensive Talisker, and I obliged. As I finished my drink I simply noted to the gentlemen that this older Talisker was very similar to the standard Talisker to which he replied “that’s probably because you ruined it with a big cube of ice in it”. Many people drink whisky in different ways, and I happen to like some ice in mine, it chills the whisky which I prefer, and gradually dilutes it in the same manner that adding water would do. In fact, houses used to be much colder and whisky used to be drank at naturally colder temperatures, so having some ice in a whisky is not far from how it used to be enjoyed by our ancestors. I don’t claim to know lots about whisky, but I’m Scottish and I know what I like, and I also know that Talisker is a relatively smokey whisky, which I love. I also know that whilst the older Talisker was slightly sweeter, it wasn’t that different, and it certainly wasn’t more smokey. I don’t appreciate being lectured on what my taste should be and then essentially having to pay double for a similar drink. There is no room for snobbery in a middle of the road place like this, especially in these uncertain times, and it ruined what was otherwise a nice evening with the other lovely staff. In the future I’ll stick to drinking whisky in places where I’m not judged by a snobbish waiter who doesn’t even seem to know what smokey even tastes like. Right, I’m off to enjoy a nice and smokey Talisker with some ice in it.
S. R.
Service was attentive. Atmosphere was lovely and pleasant. Drinks were really good. I had some Whisking Mules and a Bailey's Hot Chocolate. Food was tasty but nothing to write home about. I shared a bread loaf with tapenade and olives to start as I wasn't super hungry. It was nice. I had the goats cheese tart for the main. It was more pastry than filling and the pastry was quite tough and overdone. The filling was low on goats cheese and heavy on the veg. It was sweet and very edible but just lacked that flavoursome tang I would have expected from the advertised flavour combo. The side salad was pleasant with some lettuce, apple and candied walnuts.
I stole some of my partner's dessert which was quite pleasant and lovely to look at but again just average. A sorbet, honeyed cream and oatmeal biscuit arrangement. I think it was a deconstructed cranachan.
I'd recommend just going here for the drinks and a cheeseboard.
L. B.
All dished lacked complex seasoning. Steak was of an excellent quality, but again the lack of seasoning felt like an injustice.
Staff were attentative and the lobster mac and cheese was wonderful.
P. W. G.
Cullen Skink was perfect and delicious, The service and decor should really be 5 stars but it was £3 more than the Café Royal and I had to ask for butter for the bread which was a little burnt. The Skink was really lovely, I would strongly recommend it.
They serve a 23 year old Bowmore Single Malt or a 30 year old Highland Park for a mere £175 catering for the more comfortable visitors.
M. D.
Excellent selection of whisky and beers, as well as a good selection of wines.
The whisky tasting experience is both informative and fun, as the guides have strong banter.
Food is tasty, well portioned and reasonably priced considering how centrally The Whiski Rooms is located.
The whisky flights are a great way to taste a selection of whisky too.
A. B.
Had a group meal for 12 people, it was easy to book in advanced via email. When we arrived the food came quick and was really tasty, everyone was happy with their choices. Good selection of beers and of course whiski.
F. L.
The atmosphere was really good! They offer a good variety of food choice and the staff was very friendly.
D. B.
Accommodated 8 of us on walk in, good Scottish food, great selection of whiskies and a nice friendly atmosphere and great service (thanks Kim who served us and the rest of the team). Would recommend if you like your whiskies!
T. T.
Lovely view and atmosphere in here, the food is good and a good selection, but a little pricy even for central edinburgh.
Drinks wise there is a fantastic selection, with some fabulous beers, but the standard whiskies are not value for money and priced quite high, so go for something a bit more adventurous as the pricing is much more value for money
A. S.
Stumbled across this place while walking around Edinburgh, and I'm so glad we did!
Popped in first of all for a wee dram, where the very knowledgeable bar staff took me through a series of single malts that I may enjoy before selecting one, and presenting it to me straight in a Glencairn glass with a jug of water and pippet on the site - MAGIC. We also ordered an off menu cocktail (Rusty Nail), which was made with enthusiasm and finished superbly. The barrel aged Rob Roy was also good, but a little over stirred in my opinion (I can't hold this against them, however as I didn't specify before ordering that I drink 'em strong!).
We returned the next day for food, and I am so so glad we did... Absolutely wonderful from the moment we sat down. Excellent service and the food was divine. We were expecting the service to suffer a little on the service side as we were sat away from the main restaurant area and there was a large booking in. I felt quite the fool when we received check backs regularly - Never should have doubted.
100% worth the money, I would thoroughly recommend.

Came for drinks and enjoyed a whisky flight and some cocktails. A really good experience for any whisky fan, not to mention a lovely chilled-out atmosphere and friendly staff. We would recommend it highly!

This is the best place in Edinburgh to bring a whisky loving tourist who wants a fun, educational, delicious and authentic Scottish experience. Introductory tasting is relatively cheap considering that you get a flight of whiskies and a one hour talk. Very interesting. A fantastic gift idea.
S. F.
Wonderful location, excellent dining and a wide range of Whiskys. We will come back with our next stay in Edinburgh.
H. T. &. S. L.
We came for the Whisky Tasting. The presentor was informative and funny. The room - a long narrow one - where it was done was quite uncomfortable and needed better ventilation, so I think they should limit the number of participants for each tasting session. The store looked well stocked and the restaurant next door seemed popular.
J.
Cosy whisky bar serving whisky tasting and spot on whisky cocktails, and other drinks and snacks. Doing Scotland proud! One of the best whisky sours I've had. Staff very helpful and the place itself is clean and comfy. Would definitely go back and recommend for a sit down and relax.
L. K.
We had reservations but arrived early, they were able to seat us immediately. The food was very tasty. It was busy, so our main course {fish and chips} took a little while to be served. Just a note -- if you are in a hurry.
J. W.
Best fillet steak in Edinburgh. Great selection of whisky and wine.
M. H.
Had a few drinks in here while visiting Edinburgh for the marathon. A decent selection of cask ales and a very impressive selection of whisky by the glass. Services was very quick and courteous and the food looked tasty, though we didn't eat here.
J. M.
Excellent food. Very friendly, efficient staff. Would highly recommend. We had a brilliant lunch here.
M. J. K.
Excellent whisky tasting menus, friendly and helpful staff, and surprisingly good desserts
S.
Arrived quite late on Sunday evening so this may have a bearing on food quality. It was just ok. Nothing special or unique as a place to eat. Still had a few people sitting for dinner so is busy all day by looks of it so perhaps it was just my experience. Nothing wrong as such just nothing to make it any more than average.
W. L.
Had a superb meal and tasting 4 whiskies. I loved the food the staff great
M. S.
Food was tasty, great selection of whisky and cocktails.

Amazing place. Make sure you go there when The sun sets

Interesting scottish food and whisky.
L. T.
simple genuine Scottish menu, nothing exceptional but guaranteed to have good food on offer. The lamb cigars starters were very nice. service was good too
T. C. K.
Pleasant setting, extensive selection of drinks. We felt the bartender wasn't having the best of days but would definitely go again. Food looked and smelled good.
L. G.
Did the whiskey tasting here and absolutely loved it. If you want to do a whiskey tour, do it here. Our instructor was knowledgeable and engaging and made it a great experience for whiskey lovers and novices alike.

Really beautiful place, good food and great staff...the girl who was working on sat 6th Nov, went over and above and was really nice to my little girl...would highly recommend
b.
Food was exceptional, great informative staff regarding whisky options for us to try , would highly recommend a visit 👍👍double thumbs from me.

Since we are both beginners in terms of whiskey we decided to have a good whiskey tasting during our vacation in Edinburgh. This tasting was very personal and informative. The guide asked us about our knowledge of whiskey and incorporated our questions into the tasting. Very impressive and highly recommended.
J. S.
Top spot for a great meal. Lovely food and drink, good service nice atmosphere

Fantastic steak! Was in the city for one night and so glad we found this place to eat. Squeezed us in at very short notice too. Great staff, good atmosphere

Loved this place and the haggis was awesome!!

Visited the whiski rooms with 2 family members on Friday night 25th June, ordered lamb cigars for starters which were vey nice
Mains we ordered 3 fillet steaks with onion rings and chunky chips & peppercorn sauce
Steaks were done to our requests
Chunky chips were frozen type onion rings were frozen type peppercorn sauce was like fresh cream with peppercorns in it
Our bottle of red wine malbec £8 out of asda charged £29.50 screw top not even a cork in it
We have been visiting this venue for over 8yrs but sadly no more
Charged big bucks for 2nd class grub
P. L.
Ate too much, couldnt help ourselves. Haggis spring rolls and lamb were brilliant. Whiskey tasting flights available anyways so was no need to book a specific tasting.
r. s.
Expensive for drinks £4.50 for a draft coke.
S. T.
Great food with the expected great selection of whisky - we'd recommend the taster flights. Btw, they have two similarly named places about 10minutes walk apart, we arrived at one and needed to rush to the other where our booking was...
A. T.
Good food and atmosphere but please, please do something about the dreadful background music. We had Lady Gaga blaring in our ears during the starter and One Direction joined us for the mains, two artists I'd rather not share any meal with, let alone a relatively expensive one.
D. L.
F***ing delicious, great staff, awesome food, & good vibe...... very informative which is always a nice touch by staff .... cheers
A. S.
Great service, great food. Creme brulee was beautiful.
N. S.
A bit touristy (read - pricey), but this place is a really good introduction to the world of Scottish whiskey if you are after that while in Scotland -and who isn't. Go here for a flight, or two, and absorb the knowledge of the staff. Then once you know what you like go drink it for half the price at any other pub in the city.
A. S.
Nice place, with scotish selection of foods and whiskey tasters. The service was good and the fish chowder great. I did not much care for the haggish, although I believe that is down to personal taste.
O. S.
Wide range of whisky, great "flights" and very nice atmosphere!
D. S.
Drinks only. Difficult to get someone to give us our bill.
M.
Great lunch. A menu to satisfy everyone’s preferences without being overwhelming. Great drink selection, and very friendly and helpful staff, especially Lukasz. Would return and recommend without hesitation.
J.
Very pleasant for beginners and whisky.
P. M.
Tour guide was brilliant, the bartender behind the bar was very knowledgeable of whiskeys the experience was worth the £29 you can pay £17 or £29 £29 for 3 extra whiskeys but not worth for £2 off bottles in the shop as bottles were very expensive cheapest one I seen was £54
M. M.
Do not be put off by the name of the restaurant if you do not like Whisky. I am not a fan myself but we did not feel obliged to try anything with Whisky. The food was very good and the servers were friendly. All at an affordable price.
C. S.
Had stroll around Edinburgh one evening and found nice little bar, great selection of Whiskeys. Chilled out and tried a nice peaty Kilchoman and a Caribbean cast Balvenie on recommendation of helpful barnan. Friendly place and nice relaxed atmosphere, not to mention a Whiskey shop next door in daytime. Would definitely recommend popping in.
V. S.
Very nice September Taste of Scotland menu. One star down for too much mustard in the whisky sauce. It little bit overpowered the dish.
E. F. F.
Really fun tasting experience and very knowledgeable guide. Always wanted to get into Whisky and definitely will be after the tasting.
A. B.
Just nipped in for lunch, we certainly weren't disappointed. The food was amazing! 100% recommended and just down from the castle so a good place to rest up and recharge after climbing there.
j. e.
Great place, amazing choice of Whisky and brilliant service. The shop and the bar are definitely worth a visit when you go to Edinburgh.
H. P.
Amazing Food, Service and Drinks. Quite a Romantic Looking Place with the lights and decor. Would definitely recommend ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
D. L. (.
Small and quaint the hostess was very nice different suggestions of whiskey to try out. When you come to Scotland do the try a lot of different whiskeys. Dicky account history how to start it and how they got into the Whiskey Business. And make it a little bit more intriguing.
P. J.
Food listed on the menu, wasn't always what you got, or at least how you expected. Very small portion of prawns for the starter, yet very expensive. Waiters were friendly enough and nice setting.
J. A.
We only tried beer but high quality. They are specialist in whisky, they have a big assortement of it. Too beer you can choose differents kinds. Typical british tabern. It,s possible to eat too. I recommend it
P. S.
Good food, excellent choice of whisky
S. J.
Fabulous evening barman was awesome tunes were fantastic, so full of atmosphere. Cant wait to come back again.
E. M.
Did an "intro to Whisky" experience. The guy was well informed and picked out 4 interesting whiskies for us to try. There's also lots of other tasting options including whisky "set menus" you can go for.
J. K.
Huge selection of whiskeys and whiskys in a central location. Traditionally decorated with a nice atmosphere. Knowledgeable staff on hand to help you pick. Often have live Scottish music on as well.
E. P.
Great atmosphere, well positioned across from the Xmas markets, macaroni cheese was amazing, will go again
K. W.
Amazing food and staff! 100% recommend, you will not be disappointed, well unless it's full!

As an Edinburgh local I wouldn't normally go drinking around the Mound/Royal Mile. On one cold wet summers evening I was at a do in that area with a friend from America. We found that the Car Wash had stopped serving food and wandered the 10 yards against the wind, uphill, until we saw the nice lights of the Whiski Rooms.
They quickly served us excellent fish n chips and black pudding and something despite it being 9.50pm. I had 2 pints of Innis and Gunn on tap (oh yes). It cost £8 a pint but was utterly worth it.
We staggered out into the night, my friend thinking that this was what its like in Scotland all the time. It's not for the record, but I enjoyed this Scotland-themed evening just as much as she did.
J.
A really nice whisky (as the name suggests) bar and restaurant with tastefully done whisky-themed decor. The food was knockout Scottish classics (think haggis, salmon, cranachan, neeps & tatties and cullen skink) which is all brilliant and you'd need a lifetime to get through their whisky menu. Sadly the experience was let down by the staff who started off so attentively and then seemed to lose interest in serving anyone, not just us, halfway through the evening.
J. C.
Enjoyed lunch here, good service good food
J. K.
Good food and service, the Lamb was perfect and the wife enjoyed her lobster...we had the cheese board which was nice but the grapes were frozen ??
A. V.
Elegant place and good quality food. Staff very professional and helpful. Excellent choice of whisky and spirits in general.
S. v. (.
I'm not the most knowledgeable whisky drinker in the world, but after a few hours in here you feel like you know more about fine malts than anyone you meet. Whether that's down to the knowledge bestowed by the staff, or the fact you're half-cut by the time you leave, is another story altogether!
You'd be hard pushed to run out of choice, or not be able to find something new in this place. There really is a malt to suit every taste. The only thing that won't be happy is your bank account. Not because Whiski Rooms is particularly expensive, but because whiskey itself is particularly expensive!
If you're looking for a cheap drink in town, avoid. Otherwise - this is a great place to go and enlighten yourself as to the wonders of whiskeys :)
S. C.
Fantastic food, great vibe and attentive staff. Venison was amazing.
C. B.
My kind of establishment! Good quality food and a huge selection of drinks. Staff could have maybe been more friendly but other than that, money well spent!
H. M.
Brilliant food ...sat by the window to enjoy the scenic view. Took my Mrs here for here birthday with our two year old son. Staff were lovely.
S. H.
Amazing vegan haggis and food in general. Lovely environment but do find the service a bit abrupt and bordering rude.
B. S. (.
Food was good but they had sold out of things on the menu (both the food and drinks menu) which I thought was pretty bad for half 7 on a Saturday night . Was quite expensive here and they are very quick to get you out the door to free up space. It was ok here but I doubt I would go back for a second visit
J. Š.
The selection of whiskies is really good and the host was knowledgeable and answered all of our queries! Relaxed atmosphere
E. W.
A great place to stop in for a hot drink on a cold day and take a break from wandering the city, as it is quite central to several attractions. In addition to selling whisky, tastings are also available: very informative if you want to learn about the different regions and production process, and of course try a few!
T. P.
My chicken breast for lunch was much better than expected. Baby carrots, mix of mushrooms, potato cake and a rich pan sauce. Good service and decent ambience. Would go again.
I. S.
Delicious Cullen Skink and nice Scottish lager beer!! Very friendly staff!
R. C.
Fantastic meals and great atmosphere, the whiskey list is amazing but you'll have to get your wallet out for a fine dram 👍🏼
I. F.
Absolutely brilliant from start to finish, friendly staff delicious food and great selection of spirits
d. h.
Great location, fantastic service and staff, loved it
M. F.
Great food and of course a huge range of whiskies. Felt a little rushed but we did have 2 hours in there.
J. M.
Good service well cooked and prepared food. If in the mood great choice of whisky. With various tasting choices
N.
This was Fantastic, Staff were great very informative about the whiski tasting, lots of non-alcohol options for me. We both had a ball 5⭐ Thanksss
E. C.
Definitely a must if you visit Scotland for the first time and you are curious about what real scottish whisky's panorama can offer.
Just a suggestion: don't exaggerate with the tasting experience :)
Y.
Good food, very friendly staff in a quiet cozy place with an amazing whisky selection. One of my favorite places in Edinburgh. Most recommended!
C. J.
Great staff, nice location, not very warm inside though. Would visit again, but wouldn't sit near the door!
J. P. (.
Kind personal, great food, especially haggis you should give a try. Price quite match the food quality. I was absolutely satisfied and can only recommend.
K. B.
Excellent tasting flights! Such good value for money and a great atmosphere and location. Waiters and waitresses are very knowledgable.
S.
Amazing food, the lamb was delicious! The interior is smoky, whiskey soaked and cozy. Perfect for a romantic dinner or for a group of friends ready to go out.
R. J.
Very friendly staff a busy little place on a Friday evening would highly reccomend booking in advance. The food was fantatsic and whiskey cocktails very good atmosphere cosy reasonably priced too
J. H.
Third visit to Edinburgh and third visit to the Whiski rooms. I love it here, it has the whole thing going on. Ambience, great food, marvelous drinks and the staff are always lovely
A. N.
Delicious food! We spent our time for dinner there! Great atmosphere, awesome choice of dishes on the menu. Friendly staff! Thanks!
D. J.
Scottish cuisine. The restaurant is accessed via a specialist shop selling malt whiskies situated at the top of the Mound. I especially enjoyed the Cullen Skink (smoked haddock soup) followed by haggis, neeps and tatties. One of the specialities is the whisky tasting menu where you can sample different malts; peaty flavours from Islay, lighter ones from Speyside, etc. Pleasant convivial atmosphere with views of Prince's Street. Food reasonably priced. (££) Whiskies? You can go mad!
K. B.
The best thing you can do in here is hand the menu back and ask them to recommend. Wow. Amazing stuff off the beaten track. Old fashioneds were superb as well.
R. M.
Good whiskey flights available and friendly staff. The haggis hete is average, the haggis I tasted at Inverness was better but a cozy place to have a drink.
G. J.
Excellent food, friendly staff particularly Lucie. First experience of Haggis , delicious. Incredible range of whisky to choose from.
A. E.
Absolutely exceptional
Our waitress was very helpful and welcoming.
Thoroughly recommend.
M. S.
Great variety of malts. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Of course, one has the opportunity there to step down into their bar and sample before you buy. Highly recommended.
C. S.
Speech lees.......🤤🤤🤤🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗, finger liking good food.
Really quick service, amazing place

Most delicious starter Salmon 3 ways; perfect depth of flavour. This is food worth braving cold January nights for; Kim and Daniel wait staff are 5 *
We will be back.
C. R.
Pretty good food and a cosy-ish atmosphere. It's a little bit pricy, but worth it. I had the salmon with vegetables, the portion size was decent. I imagine I'll be back again.
J. F.
Very knowledgeable and informative tasting, with friendly staff and a good range of whiskeys to try and learn with! Thoroughly enjoyed it, and the shop has loads of unique bottles
R. S.
Very friendly waiters with a wide whisky knowledge, Food was delicious too, if i come back to Edinburgh, Whiski Rooms will be one of my first address to visit.
K. Y.
A lovely little restaurant in a great location with excellent choices for Scottish cuisine. Very friendly service, though a tad slow closing out the bill as the restaurant became more busy.
B. V.
Brilliant staff. Very professional. Nice and cosy. We both had fish&chips and it was different but great different. We'll be back again
M. F.
Very pleasant staff. Lovely location & surroundings. Spotless restaurant & coffee scrumptious. Love the lights on the deers heads. Highly recommended. 🐞🐞🐞

C. G.
An amazing restaurant with a bartender who's able to tell lots of stuff while still creating cocktails and waiters that won't take a rest untill you're satisfied. The Haggis is highly recommended!
B. F.
Very cool place just off the Royal Mile.
M. O.
Delicious food, friendly and attentive staff and some great whiskey... all with a pretty nice view. Lovely evening and I'll definitely go back when I'm back in Edinburgh
A.
Treated to a meal out. First time we have been here will not be our last. It was lovely atmosphere and fantastic food
K. K.
A good selection of whiskies and fine food, but I find this place to be a bit overpriced. You can find bars with comparable if not even larger selection of whiskies for a lot less the price. Probably just the location to be fair.
D. M.
If you like whisky then this is the place for you, a huge selection of whisky is on offer as well as a number of whisky based cocktails. There is always a whisky of the month on offer and it's possible to have a whisky tasting session (a number of different types are available).
A. I.
Best steak & ale pie, fresh hummus & flat breads, wonderfully friendly and flexible staff, pleasant music and atmosphere, I’ll definitely return here!
