Reviews of Marchtown

Authentic, local, and basically awesome. Small but perfectly formed. Some really interesting and unusual wine & beer options if you’re open to it.
Plenty of seating inside and outside. Even an intimate private option downstairs.
Anthony: amazing host. Knows how to get the best out of your visit. Can’t wait to come back.

Love this place, it's like an upmarket wine shop without the snootiness and has the added benefit of 2 indoor bar areas. Always some really interesting natural wines by the glass or bottle. Sometimes I just pop in if I'm passing and sit outside for a glass if it's sunny.
You can also order a pretty tasty cheese board or dips for snacking on with your drinks.
They also have plenty of craft beer to sit in or takeaway and interesting spirits too.
Staff are really great and very knowledgeable, the management are also doing a good job and are also visible and very helpful.

Amazing , great service , fantastic wines , and delicious nibbles. Anthony really knows his stuff and is possibly the most down to earth somalier? (Wine guy!) Ever. Highly recommended.

Awesome place, amazing staff, great food and an even better wine list. So warm and cosy inside, great tunes, amazing vine.

Offers an unequalled selection of wines and craft beers in Glasgow Southside.
The recommendations of the friendly and knowledgeable staff are spot on.

So many beers and wines to choose from, and great charcuterie and cheese boards. Wine tastings as well if you want to know a bit more.
J. E.
Really knowledgeable staff, fantastic wine selection, lovely snack options. Would definitely go back.

My partner Ian and I had the most wonderful afternoon with Anthony! We chose the wine and cheese pairing and I could not recommend this enough. Anthony was extremely knowledgeable and we had such a fun experience learning with him. So far it's been our highlight of our Glasgow trip. Thank you so much Anthony, we can't wait to visit again!! You have created such a beautiful business! 😍

This was one of the best experiences we’ve had as a couple in the whole of Scotland. Anthony was so informative and the wine and cheese he brought to us was exceptional! Highly recommend a wine and cheese tasting, we’re dying to go back already.

Surprised. A decent fine wine merchant. Small stock. But, more a reflection of the demand in Glasgow, no longer a city of sophistication compared to our Victorian and Edwardian zenith. SNP Scotland is a ghastly, base, barbarous, uneducated country. So, no surprise that there's a small demand for the finer things in life.

Great choice of wines and other drinks at one of the best places in Glasgow's Southside.

Can't recommend these guys highly enough. A family member ordered me the Scottish Beer Hamper as a birthday gift, and when it was delivered - carefully and beautifully packaged - there were a few things missing. Thomas from Marchtown was quick to reply to my email and arranged for the missing elements to be sent, along with a few additional beers by way of apology. The hamper itself was great, with a really nice selection of different Scottish beers, but the customer service was absolutely top notch. Great communication and sorted out the small issue with no hassle at all. Highly recommended.

Amazing selection of wine/beers,etc. Very-very lovely staff 👌

A solid wine bar. The meat and cheese platter makes for a great tapas style meal.

Really warm atmosphere and great staff....
A.
Excellent little wine bar. Great selection of beers too. Had an amazing french cider that was out of this world. The sharing platter for two had a great selection of quality products and the place, a nice friendly atmosphere. Great staff!
D. M.
Lovely wee place. Went here for drinks and nibbles with friends in the evening. Great beer & wine selection for sit in or off-sales. Served by the owner who was very friendly, knowledgeable & professional. Good sharing platters, though bear in mid the kitchen is more of a prep area so don't expect full 3-course cooked meals.. Its more about the atmosphere & drinks selection in any case. Decor is brilliant, & lots of nice little touches with hand-made serving boards, leather-bound menus etc. Welcome addition to the south side & will visit again :)
F. M.
Lovely atmosphere, excellent cheese boards and brilliant wine recommendations from the staff.

Awesome selection of beer and wines. Price range from reasonable to expensive but the team are all well trained to recommend the right choice for you. Always drop in when I'm passing by as the selection is always changing and something invariably catches your attention.

What a brilliant drinks deli and bar. The staff are so friendly and knowledgeable. Really wide choice of unusual and delicious beverages. Truly a chilled and fun place for a drink or three. The sharing boards are well out together, tasty, and expertly judged to compliment the drinks.

Wonderful wee bar, full of wondefully unusual wines and beers. The staff are Brill, and the owner will always go out of his way to make sure you've found exactly what you're looking for.

They have a great selection of wine and cheese and snacks. Atmosphere is pretty good. But just give me a wine list though, and the choice of whether to talk in depth to the staff (or not!) to pick myself a nice wine
D. M.
This is my favourite wine bar in the world. It's difficult to say which is better: the wines, the cheese boards, or the friendly and knowledgeable staff. A quiet and intimate setting for catching up with your friend, showing off to your in-laws, treating your family to something different, or having a late night last minute date with your love. Whatever you do, go here, and tip well because it is deserved!

Great little place in Shawlands. Staff know their stuff, small though so you might not always get a seat but they will try and accommodate. As well as a great selection of wine which changes they also do a number of different ales amongst other things. Good ambience. Recommended.
K. M.
My wife and I were here for a wine and cheese tasting session, some great wines, paired with some tasty cheeses.
Anthony was a great host, with, knowledgeable and fun chat, and we really enjoyed our evening.
Will definitely be back for more.

Great wine bar, staff and booze.

I've been here twice and both times I was blown away by their knowledge and passion for what they do. I went on a beer and cheese tasting here with friends and even my friend who doesn't like beer AND cheese enjoyed himself! I came back a few weeks later to get some beer and wine for friends. The owner took the time to explain each beer to me and listened to what I had in mind before anything else. Fantastic place - get yourself over here!
F. B.
Amazing wine selection, the owner is so friendly and really knows his stuff. He's always happy to lend a hand with recommendations, and it's a beautifully decorated place to relax with a drink.
J. S.
Friendly, unhurried, knowledgeable and good wine and nibbles
D. M.
Great place! Very relaxed and friendly vibe. Tried the wine and cheese tasting. Anthony was a great host: knowledgeable, witty and made the event fun and entertaining. We'll be back with friends to try the blind tasting.
R. H.
This place makes me want to live in strathbungo! Great atmosphere. The wine and beer (and cheese!) are great and Anthony is always on hand to help out our just have a chat. Great as a group or on your own too.
M. M.
A gem in the southside! Wine suggestions were flawless and staff were so friendly! Baby friendly too!
K. H.
It was such a nice experience, was my first time going there and we had the cheese board and a bottle of wine, the owner picked out the perfect bottle of wine for us based on only a few questions and a "feeling" and the olives and cheese board were delicious. I highly recommend both of those.
M. R.
I was really surprised at this little restaurant. It has an amazing atmosphere with tables laid out in a way that welcomes you to stay and the cheese and cracker platter was amazing. I can just imaging it with a Glass of Red and an evening with friends. I look forward to returning soon. I forgot to take photos, but will try next time round as it is very well done!

P. H.
Great wines, beers and nibbles. It's not quite like any other bar - so refreshing that the owners set out to create a place they love, not copy someone else's formula
D. L.
Amazing selection of beers, wines and spirits with really friendly and knowledgeable staff. Would definitely recommend it!
J. N.

Great when it was a bar, still fabulous now it has pivoted to off license sales. Knowledgeable staff and an interesting selection of wine.
S. C.
Friendly from the get go, very knowledgeable about wines, cheese and meats sharing platter was the best we ever had. Couldn't recommend this wee gem enough, so good we have been back twice within the space of a week.

I don't live in Glasgow but always one of the first places I stop at when on my annual pilgrammage from London. Staff are quality and drink and nibble selection is homely. 10/10 every day of the week.
A. F. H. R.
An astoundingly variate and ever-changing range of beers and wines, expertly chosen. The food is also delicious, and the place is so nice you are likely to be forcibly removed from it so the poor owner can go to sleep.
C. S.
Nice little selection of beers, variety of wines, cozy, comfortable, friendly staff and excellent cheese.
Highly recommended. Dog friendly.
J. D.

This was our first night out in a loooong time. We were hoping to find somewhere not too busy or rowdy and stumbled on this gem. Loads of selection to choose from for beer or wine, coupled with helpful tasting notes and samples from welcoming staff... We stayed until closing time.
