This was my first visit to Robin's Pie & Mash in Chingford and I wasn't disappointed. I had double pie double mash and liquor and it was delicious. I can certainly recommend this particular shop. The staff were very friendly and made us feel welcome. Pie & Mash addicts should give this one a try,its one of the best. Well done to all at Robins I'll be back soon. 😋

Small plate and even smaller pies! One of the first meals I can remember eating as a child was Pie & Mash, and have continued eating this ever since. I have tried most of the P&M shops in London, including many that have long since closed down, and as such don't have loyalty to a 'local' one as some P&M aficionados do. This is the first time I have eaten at a Robins P&M shop, and whilst not bad 'by a long chalk', I found compared to all the others I have tried it was 'average'. So why only average? 1. Pies were small [but beautifully cooked]; think about 2/3 the size of a normal P&M pie, which are about the size of an individual supermarket Minced beef pie...I have a small appetite, but even I left still feeling hungry and had to buy a sandwich from a supermarket afterwards. Note, P&M pies are not the same as supermarket ones, and comparing them is like 'night and day', with P&M being so much better. 2. Pastry was 'thin'. Whilst this is not an issue for the bottom that traditionally uses a thinner 'non-flaky' type pastry, the top using flaky pastry was about half the thickness of every other pie I have ever eaten. This wasn't due to the pastry not being cooked properly/risen during baking as this was fine, just that it had been rolled/layered too thinly and so could only rise so far. 3. Mince filling could have been a little more generous; appeared to be 'padded out' with gravy, but good quality meat i.e. no gristle. 4. Mash and Liquor were perfectly fine; no eyes in potato/not too much flour used in Liquor, although I doubt fresh Parsley was used in the Liquor as the flavour was less intense. 5. Finally service. This was, as with most P&M shops, friendly. Don't expect waiters, but you will be made to feel welcomed, as a valued customer. To summarize, I feel whilst a reasonable product, the proprietors were trying to make small savings, this resulted in an average rather than excellent product [shame]. Cost on visit in Mar 2022: 1 pie, 1 mash, 1 liquor - £4.60 [this is what I had]. 2 pies, 1 mash, 1 liquor - £6.60

10 out of 10! Always is, always has been! The pies are full of meat and the liquor is full of parsley and spot on every time. Robins is the best, the friendly staff make it even better - I won't go anywhere else.

Great little place to get some authentic tasting pie and mash. The food is great and served up in a flash. Perfect if you want a quick fill up during the day. Takeaway is also available, not tried it myself yet as I always tend to sit in. The place is small though, so you need to plan your visit right of you want to sit in and eat.

I had never had pie & mash before, despite my families east London origins it somehow passed me by. My friend introduced me to this place last year and I've been making regular trips ever since. I think the food is really tasty and very reasonably priced. The staff are so welcoming and friendly and just have a warmth to them that many places miss out on. All the above means I've kept coming and will keep coming, thank you!

Absolutely authentic. Totally loved eating here today. The pies are juicy and really meaty. The mash is perfect and they have nailed the liquor. If I lived in Chingford, I would be here on a regular basis.

Really enjoyed it here. Had the pie and mash and also an apple pie. Apple pie was really delicious and so much nicer tha I thought it would be. Highly recommended. Beef mince pie was quite small but still nice. Wish they were a big bigger tbh but pretty standard pie shop size tbf.

The best pie and mash I've had, pie crust is crisp and the meat is good quality. Liquor doesn't taste like a cheap store bought one either. Definitely recommend. Staff are always lovely too.

Lovely little old fashioned place. They had a vegetarian pie too thankfully so I had pie and mash and liquor. Lady serving was helpful and chatty. I would say you may well want 2 pies.

I found the pies cold and the mash bland - the pies were small - this dish has to be served hot - been to many others over the years and this didn’t hit the spot on a lot of fronts - only saving grace was the liquor which WAS hot and the right thickness and texture - I expected more but it didn’t happen - 3 stars based on liquor.

Excellent pie and mash originally from the East End Upton Park I think I used to go there as a child always consistently good nice firm Ash thick not runny liquor and excellent crunch pies that are cooked to perfection nice and brown not black and burnt staff a very friendly shop is very clean I would highly recommend this place original East End food oh and don't forget the jellied eels
