Reviews of The English Whisky Co
J. N.
Took a two and a half hour drive today for a great day out at The English Distiller! Cyril was our host and really made us feel welcomed and made the tour very personal asking us questions as well as us asking him. Chris was active in his whisky making which was great to see and have a chat with him as at larger distilleries you don’t always get the chance.
The whisky we drank was wonderful and the tasting room was great I loved it.
Took a little walk around the local stream and it was very picturesque. Definitely 5/5 recommend

The 15 year anniversary tour was really good. The tour groups are small and intimate and you actually get up close and get to see first hand the process behind how they are creating whisky. Questions were welcomed and all mine were answered.
At the end of the tour we were taken into the 'library' where we got to see all the whisky they have made to date and were offered tastings of their popular whisky. I had my eye set on the sherry cask which was not part of the tasting but they kindly let me sample it.
The staff are really friendly and knowledgeable.
The tour and tasting took around an hour but leave time to explore the shop.

Wonderful experience of whisky tour we had indeed and £20 per person ticket is really cheap. We have been to many scotch whisky distilleries and this one has exceeded our expectations. They explained the whole whisky making process in the tour unlike the expensive scotch whisky factories. We had whisky tasting too and had an delicious meal at their restaurant.

I went into this tour expecting to not really enjoy it as I don't really enjoy whisky but decided to take one for the team and take my husband as a gift. I can honestly say that I had the best time and this spoke to my inner chemistry geek. Mark was our guide and he was friendly, knowledgable, engaging and most importantly was patient with our children (we didn't have a sitter)
We never felt rushed and no question went unanswered
The lovely lady in the gift shop was so so kind to our children. I would recommend this experience to anyone!
Thank you

Immensely enjoyable 60 minute tour including samples and shop discount. This small, family run business housed in a smart modern distillery building with beautifully kept grounds is well worth a detour. Knowledgeable, open and friendly guidance. I'm an enthusiastic whisky novice and found a great selection in the 11 year old aged, 1st fill and Original varieties. Maybe slightly costlier than average, but when you see how much effort the small team puts in it's completely understandable, and in an age when £40 bottles of gin are ubiquitous, this pioneering distillery is deserving of a try.

What a fabulous open day at the English Whisky Co, great atmosphere. Tour and tasting, PX and Nog are a must to try. Staff extremely helpful and proud to promote the company.

We booked the English Whisky tour and were guided by Mark. Overall an excellent experience ending in a lovely tasting session.
Would recommend and look forward to visiting again.

Had a wonderful 15 year anniversary tour with my husband, for our 15 year wedding anniversary. Worth the drive out there, beautiful grounds. Our tour guide was welcoming, friendly, knowledgeable and fun, thanks Cyril! We learned a lot, and enjoyed the walk through experience. Wishing we would have been able to enjoy the restaurant on the grounds (they are in-between management at the moment, but the building looked really beautiful) The shop had plenty to choose from, and the tasting is wonderful! Above the shop is a very pretty little tea and cake section, tables and chairs - when the sun streams in through the high windows it looks brilliant.

If you love whiskey... it's a fab way to spend an hour, touring the site...plus the whiskey is excellent...hic !

We've often passed the signs for The English Whisky Co and thought we should drop in. Well, today we did. It was very quiet when we arrived (about half 12) and decided to sign up for the distillery tour (every hour on the hour) and was very pleased we did. We had pretty much a one-to-one tour and the guide was brilliant, really knowledgeable and engaging. Got a fantastic look around and really interesting explanation of all the nuances (like why the longer a whisky is matured the more expensive it becomes, not for the reason I thought). I'd recommend a visit here, especially if you are a whisky lover. Needless to say came away with a couple of bottles which might last til the next visit 😉
P. L.
Fantastic experience. I was part of the 15 year anniversary tour and it was great. Very informative and fun with tasting of 3 different whiskies at the end of the tour. You're getting enough whisky to enjoy and taste the difference but little enough to drive. I guess that last statement depends on your tolerance etc. Very nice showroom, but if you do like whisky just make sure you have enough money with you ;-)
K. S.
Visited their open day today, took the opportunity of the mini tour, very informative and a taster for more detailed tours. Great food options, helpful staff, very nice morning out and my tasting lead to a purchase! so I will enjoy that for some time...
E. U.
We did the tour. It was amazing, so interesting and so much information. Really loved it.
Mike our guide was awesome, and so clever, thank you to him.
B. I.
It was a lovely experience. Chris was very informative, and made the tour quite interesting.

Called in here on our way back from a holiday in Lowestoft a few weeks ago after I saw a sign for the place on my work travels around East Anglia from Berkshire as my bro in law is a big whisky fan.
I fell in love with the beer so had to call in as I did a job just up the road today, after all it would've been rude not to haha.
The lovely young lady even carried my box to the car as I'm a bit wobbly due to a hip problem.
I really recommend a visit here, I'd love to do the tour one day.
D. N.
Went to their open day - free tour, tastings, gifts, live music, face painting for kids. Well organised and interesting tour. Lots of visitors, food outlets etc. Nice day out! Look out for it next year! Delicious whisky - bit pricey though.
c. r.
We throughly enjoyed the whisky tour. Our guide, John, was interesting, witty and knowledgable. The whisky tasting was fun and we were able to request to taste different whisky’s after. I would have given 5 stars but unfortunately the lady behind the bar made us feel awkward asking to try. She was very stern and I’m afraid she spoilt the experience for us which was a huge shame. The experience was a present from our children. We all went on to buy some different whisky’s and would recommend the day.. perhaps have a word with your colleague and ask her to be more hospitable
J. T.
Went on a tasting tour yesterday had a fab time very informative and whisky went down well. Chris was a good tour guide. Had been to Scotland on tours but learnt alot today
r.
Great time on the guided tour. Guide was very knowledgeable. Helpful staff in the shop. Very tasty ranges of products at a range of prices.
D. S.
An amazing venue, tour is brilliant and very interesting with lots of details about whisky making and how its done in Norfolk. The whisky sold in their shop are amongst the best in the world, with almost all of them available for test before you purchase.
Highly recommended destination for a visit, and look at joining the club, the bottles you get every 2 months are amazing
C. J. M.
Great tasting English Whisky, visited this site back in 2007 and brought a bottle of its matured product and enjoyed its early chapter. Returned in 2019 and purchased a bottle of English Single Malt and its great. The site has been upgraded in that time with a cafe, a well laid out shop offering the products and souvenirs of the distillery.
R. e.
Really enjoyed the tour we did here, made to feel very welcome. The tasting was great ended up buying some of the whisky... and I will be buying more.
If you are near by defiantly drop it you won't regret it if you enjoy whisky
S. N.
Revisited today 6 months after a group of us went on one of their tasting tours which was great. We had a lovely meal at the attached south African restaurant
So disappointed to discover when I took my husband for lunch today to discover it had gone bust consoled ourselves with coffee and cake purchase of whisky!
Hope they manage to find replacement partner soon
S. m.
What a great place to visit. We had a hour tour which was very interesting and i strongly recommend.
They have a shop with loads of different whiskies to choose from.
Toilets are located between the shop and restaurant.
Staff were all polite and knowledgeable.
Loads of car parking space.
R. C.
Very enjoyable experience. Great tour guide, our young son was made to feel as welcome as we were, nice whiskies to sample, and a great restaurant next door (also nice walk by the river for after). I'd come back and recommend. Thank you!
F. N.
Very good tour.things you did not know in making very good whiskey.thank you Cyril.
G. H.
Fantastic tour around this distillery, takes about an hour and very interesting, The restaurant is superb as is the food, staff very friendly and helpful.
C. R.
Lovely position next to English whisky Co. Interior nicely set out with good choice of hot & cold drinks, soft and alcoholic.
We went with friends and had the Lord's and Ladies afternoon tea. Men's was savory with unusual and different food. Ours was delicious with sandwiches, scones, mackerel pots, cakes and a sundae. Thoroughly enjoyed and will definitely visit again for lunch which looked very tempting when being served to other tables.
G. D.
Have driven past for 20 years and just popped in out of curiosity. Lovely calm rural location plenty of parking. I didn't do a tour or use the restaurant but the gentleman at the sales desk gave me small tastes of various bottles of whisky. He was very friendly and knowledgeable. I enjoyed the whiskies and bought 2 bottles and 2 glasses. A very enjoyable half an hour. Recommended.
G. P.
Brilliant! Lovely whisky and knowledgeable tour. Such a great day. Thanks
m. p.
Amazing place.
The tour was fantastic and so easily explained.
The tasting very generous.
Highly recommended afternoon out.
Thank you english whisky
S. L.
We came for a tour and the site was lovely, Joy the guide was friendly and informative and the shop was packed with loads of choice. 5 stars and would recommend to any whisky enthusiasts!
B. A.
Such a fantastic tour, we were lucky enough to get the brilliant Catherine as our tour guide. Lots of new information even though we have been to quite a few distillery tours in the past.
l.
Excellent tour by Joy. Good local company using local ingredients and recycling to the farms what they can. Very friendly and informative 1 hour tour, with a restaurant on site should you wish to eat. As there are stairs and space can be tight, I suspect it's not totally disabled friendly but you would need to check. I thoroughly recommend a visit and if you want to get an unusual alcoholic bottle of something for self or a present, it's the place to go.
A.
Really good tour with a knowledgeable guide. We'll worth the entry price and a good experience.
P. B.
The tour was very interesting and Joy the guide was very informative and jolly made the tasting and day very enjoyable. The food in the restaurant was excellent and good value for money. The Sherry Butts Whisky is excellent 🥃🥃😀
L. A.
We had the tour and it was great, the chap showing us round was very informative and the whiskey is delicious. We bought a bottle at the end. Would recommend :)
S. R.
Amazing tour by a fantastic lady joy very pleased valuable knowledge of whiskey xx
J. S.
Very nice people that do an introduction to the whiskey world. Very nice tour with a degustation of their own products. I've traveled from London only to visit them and was fantastic.
J. W.
Amazing products aside, it’s the openness of the venue and the share friendliness of the staff that really makes this place worth a visit. The products are genuinely crafted and very well presented. There’s a restaurant that one day I’m sure I’ll be taken to! Then there’s the distillery tour too that again… We’ll worth a visit - Norfolk Gem!!
t. w.
Had a lovely tour by Mark today (6/6/21). He was so friendly and offered lots of insightful knowledge on every stage of the whisky making process. Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Norfolk - only takes a bit more than an hour!
J. M.
Very interesting tour and friendly, helpful staff (thanks again Catherine), in a lovely setting. Their whisky is genuinely delicious. Would recommend a visit and a purchase!
B. D.
Entertaining and informative tour by Mark. I've seen the Whisky distilling process in documentaries but the sights, sounds and particularly smells of the real thing is an experience I would thoroughly recommend. The final product is also excellent.
N. G.
Great tour from the very knowledgeable Joy. Learned a lot. It has changed our opinion. Previously we would only buy a Speyside whisky. We came away with a few bottles. Not quite sure how long they will last
M. H.
Love this place the guys here are always helpful. Also best whisky I've ever had seriously you have to try it to believe it. What an amazing place.
B. H.
Fantastic tour with a very knowledge guide (John). Always fancied looking around and thoroughly enjoyed it. Would highly recommend
B. u.
Loved . Whiskey distillery meets with flavours that hard to resist
R. L.
Great Whisky and a beautiful setting. Such a super range. Not the cheapest but if you want a special bottle or in our case bottles this is the place to go. We are so lucky to have this on our doorstep.
A. J.
This is the 3rd time I've visited the distillery. The new café is an excellent addition and their range of whisky in their shop is great.
The staff are very knowledgeable and good to talk to, and the tour is nice and compact while covering just enough detail of the various processes. Plus a nice whisky tasting at the end.
I was even offered to sample some additional types of their own, and they do make some very fine (and award winning) varieties. I left with a bottle of chapter 17, the triple filtered whisky.
M. T.
The oldest English Whiskey making company. Marvellous tour, perfect timing, just the right level of information and stories. Great Whiskey!
R. J.
Really enjoyable breakfast/brunch at Oakville restaurant .....popped into the wonderful Whiskey shop, which has an amazing choice of whiskies and gins on offer. Next time around we'll do the tour. Well worth a look around...
J.
My favorite distillery tour to date! The guide (Mark) was extremely pleasant and very knowledgeable. Everything there is done by hand and the master distiller (David) does superb work. I plan on visiting numerous times while stationed in the UK.
C. P.
Superb place for any real Whisky lover. Great atmosphere lovely people and a product that will satisfy most whisky drinkers.
C. K.
Just back from a tour with our guide Elaine who was excellent. Such an interesting tour and a wonderful business. The Kitchen is a lovely place for a bite to eat ( I can recommend the scones) and the shop offers a superb choice and is beautifully laid out.
Simply can not find fault - well done to all.
M. L.
Lovely tour of this distillery followed by lunch at their restaurant in the sun. What a lovely day. If you’re in the area with a couple of hours to spare, then this place is well worth a visit.
J. H. (.
We enjoyed our 1 hour tour which included lunch and a tasting. We sampled plenty and found that our favourite was chapter 13. Gift shop was really cool and the guide was very nice and informative.. we will definitely come back and leave with more gifts.
C. B.
A fantastic place if you have an interest in Whisky. I did the World Whisky Tour which is a 2 hour tour of the distillery followed by a 1 hour whisky tasting. It was both interesting and very entertaining. The shop has a massive range of whiskies from around the world along with other whisky paraphernalia plus the onsite café offers a huge range of very tasty food. Thoroughly recommended!
J. F.
Great English whisky.... who'd have thought that was possible? Tasted some lovely ones... of course my favourite was a quarter cask one...
You can order online and they do tours of the distillery for a tenner..
Also they have not missed a trick with their limited editions, collectors cases and shop full of The English Whisky Company produce and branded items.
S. H.
Well worth visiting. Sandy, the guide, was excellent - knowledgeable and helpful. Enjoyable tasting session and very pleasant surroundings. A good way to spend an hour or two.
d. k.
3 generations went on the tour and all enjoyed it.
The guide i think his name was lee was amazing, answering every question thoroughly and with an obvious passion for his craft.
I am a whisky drinker and have learned things about whiskey i never realised.
The price of the tour includes free tea and coffe and a 5.00 discount on whisky bought so is a very fair price and well worth it.
H. S.
We've just had a "World Whiskey Tasting Experience" and can thoroughly recommend it. I bought it for my husband as his birthday present. A great tour of the distillery with a humorous explanation of the whole distilling process. I am not a whiskey drinker, but now feel able to have a dram without grimacing! Loved it.
P. T.
What an amazing place.. fantastic tour with Mark .. he is so passionate about the whiskey process really enjoyed listening to how it all started .. loved the tasting session both after the tour and then again in the shop . Where The other Mark was most helpful. Would definitely recommend this place...
A. B.
We had the 1 hour tour which the guide David made entertaining and interesting then the tastings which were very nice then we had lunch part of our package which was lovely probably one of the best meals out we've had for a long time definitely recommend the sticky toffee pudding .
R. W.
It may seem pricey, but so worth it. Beautiful whisky and well worth the money . You will not be disappointed.
G. L.
Great day out for the serious malt lover. Small but highly commended distillery which has made the Scots look. Some medal winning malts. Good tour and of course a wee dram at the end, or two. Decent selection of world malts in the shop too.
C. H.
So proud the English Whiskey Distillery is in Norfolk! Placed an online order and everything was ready for collection as promised. Looking forward to seeing the restaurant, shop and tours back to business as usual!! 😃
k. R.
Excellent cooked breakfast. Staff really friendly and helpful. Was passing through the area back to London but will revisit and also bring along my dog when I dine in the garden. Plenty of parking spaces too. Really worth a visit.
D. H.
Great tour, really interesting. Lovely food in the restaurant, excellent customer service. Would definitely recommend the beef dripping chips! The whisky is very, very good also.
R. M.
Great tour - Joy was a 'joy', what a fount of knowledge she is! Fun tasting the whisky at the end.
W. B.
As more of a gin drinker than a whiskey drinker i was sceptical about trying out the tourat the english whisky co. At the entrance we was pleasantly greeted by Joyce, our tour guide who made us feel very welcome, as my girlfriend and I are 19 we was the youngest on the tour and it was nice to feel welcomed instead of a cold reception that alchohol tours can be stereotyped as. The tour was very interesting and felt like we got alot of bang for our buck on our 10 pound ticket, Joyce was very knowledgeable about the history of the company and the whisky itself, it really felt like we was getting a thorough crash course in single malts, after the tour we was presented with samples of the whisky which i thoroughly enjoyed! After the tour we enjoyed fish and chips in the onsite restaurant which was obviously freshly made and really tasted like it was straight out of the sea! Thank you English Whisky company and Joyce for a fabulous afternoon out, I hope to be back next year with my mother who would enjoy this just as much as we did!!
J. P.
Very interesting place to go. you learn alot how whiskey is made and long it stay in the barrel for.

Fantastic tour really interesting and very good tour guide. Highly recommend a tour and a nice bottle from the gift shop.
R. C.
I don't like the new shop it does not have the personal touch that the old shop had.
The whiskey prices are ramped up & cheaper to buy elsewhere.
I do like some of the new products they are improving their own brand, the new single malts are very nice.
G. M.
Excellent tour of The English Whiskey Company and a very informative guide, followed by a tasting and purchase in the shop to take home....
