Reviews of The Oxford Artisan Distillery

What a superb tour! Alisha was so knowledgeable and clear with the ton of information about the history and background to the distillery it made the tour the best one I have been on to date. I hadn’t realised just how unique this place was in its heritage. The spirits they produce and the tour experience is not to be missed. Thank you!
S. W.
Lovely place and even better people there. All super kind and drink were great. Definitely worth a trip. On a nice day they even have a nice outdoor space.
J. D.
Awesome place to have a G&T, their drinks are exceptional! We have been to a couple of comedy nights here too which we enjoyed immensely. Just some constructive criticism, the opening hours don’t seem to be wholly accurate on Google, I had real trouble buying a bottle of gin from the shop there, so ended up just ordering online. Maybe the opening hours have changed since but here’s a photo from the gate which clears up any ambiguity!
N.
Had a tour and gin tasting session with Edward… absolutely fantastic speaker and endlessly funny. 100% recommend if you’re visiting the area even if you’re not particularly a gin drinker.
A. B.
Alisha did our tour for us. We had a lovely time. Her company and guidance was very funny, bubbly and lovely. Her explanations of the distillery were clear and easy to understand, but also interesting. It was very interesting to discuss the marketing side with her as well. Really recommend this tour and defined ask for Alisha to tour :)
E. C.
Had a distillery tour, hosted by the very knowledgeable Sarah. Really interesting to learn about the grain to glass process. Great to get up close and personal with Nautilus and Nemo! Despite the stills being off and there being a shortage of steam.. Leading to a shortage of gin, still really enjoyable. Lots of drinks to try, and as a non whisky drinker to come away with some rye whisky is quite something! Would highly recommend and may well come back again!
K. M.
Went for a distillery tour yesterday, Sarah was fantastic, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Plus the drinks were great! We will be back for the whiskey tour. Great setting for drinks in the garden too. Would 100% recommend.
D. R.
Well what can I say....Absolutely Brilliant, loved the tour, Steven was great, funny and extremely knowledgeable. A complementary G and T to kick start it off with Plenty of tasters too boot. All the staff (Phil, James and Izzy) made the experience wonderful. Would highly recommend to anyone. Many thanks.
S. W.
Absolutely fantastic and educational tour. Fascinating to hear about the grain to glass production. Our tour guide was Mitchell who was charasmatic and hilarious, if a little lefty!
He connected with each of the tour attendees and answered questions diligently and with so much confidence and made gin exciting.
Generous samples and a great hour spent in Oxford.
I've been before and Mitchell is a great asset and I'm looking forward to gifting friends with this tur.
Fantastic.

Awesome place to visit! Went on the tour with my partner, the guide was top class. Really knowledgeable, passionate about the process. Walked away a gin convert!
K. C.
I had a tasty old fashioned with my group as we sat outside. It has a clean space, which was very relaxing.
S. D.
Fabulous tour, very informative. Corey spent some time explaining how the gin is made and his passion shone through. My favourite was the pink gin (sorry Corey!). Highly recommended.
B. B.
We were lucky enough to get a slot of the tour only for the two of us.
We spent an amazing time and learn a lot about this one-of-a-kind distillery.
I would really recommed it for people looking for a different experience in Oxford.
C. Q.
Exquisite experience, very informative, very friendly, very exciting new heritage grains to glass distillery startup. A "big-upps" to the horses mouth himself, Cory, for the extra info. You guys are sick - i.e. y'all rock! (BTW if you like this, I've got great food videos, google or you tube search CuisineQuest!)
J. W.
Excellent tour, Stephen was an amazing tour guide! Would definitely recommend, very informative and delicious
M. S.
Went here for a birthday and was a one of a kind experience! Alisha was Incredibly knowledgeable and even turned a typically boring subject, such as farming, interesting! We had an amazing time and have already recommended to many friends and family. The Gin was phenomenal! A definite must see! Would maybe suggest taking the bus instead of driving!
E. G.
We had a lovely tour with Alisha. She was very friendly, knowledgeable and fun. We loved learning about the sustainable farming methods, the gin, vodka and 'whisky' tastings were tasty too. Would definitely recommend this tour and their booze!!
R. B.
My boyfriend and I went last Saturday; as soon as the tour kicked off we were handed a G&T, which is exactly how every gin tour should start! Edward was such a charming tour guide, with lots of facts and an evident passion for what he does. Ample tasters and lots of opportunities to ask questions. Brilliant tour; I would go again in a heartbeat.
S. N.
One of the best tours I've done. Our guide was fantastic and couldn't rate the experience enough!

The Toad Distillery looked after our wedding reception. Leslie was super laid back and helpful, recommending some good ideas on how to organise welcome drinks etc and fitting us in last minute. The venue is such a great vibe, and a bit different which is everyone loved. The Gin went down pretty easy too! Go and visit! Thanks Toad and all the team!
A. S.
Excellent tour of TOAD Oxford's first (legal) distillery - ignoring the activities of all those chem/biochem undergrads. Full explanation of true craft distilling, especially as lucky enough to have the master distiller, Cory who showed us all the organic ingredients in his lab and those unique heritage grains in the threshing barn.
Hard not to be infected by the team's enthusiasm even though I have already visited a lot of US craft distilleries. The product of all that hard work speaks for itself - a distinctive London dry style gin and an unusually tasty vodka (given that is normally an oxymoron).
M. R.
Absolutely brilliant. Had a tour there today, can not fault it. Learnt so much and will definitely be returning. 😊😊😊😊😊
J. H.
Small tour made huge by the incredible insight and broad knowledge from Edward. We have toured gin, wine and whisky's before but Edward's passion tops the lot. Worth the wait for my 50 +1 and three quarter birthday treat! Will be back in the summer when the bar opens x
J. H.
Had a lovely time at the distillery tour today. Alisha the tour guide was a good laugh, friendly and knowledgeable. Very impressed with all the products made by Oxford distillery and the procces and hard work put into it.
M. S.
Working for UPS I deliver here often, staff are all very friendly. The gins are all very fine, my favourite is called Physic, it is expensive but an exquisite drink. I understand they do vodkas and whiskey too..
I know you can do a tour and sit and taste their lovely spirits.. They have plans to improve their imbibing experience...
K. J.
Stumbled (no pun intended) over this gem by accident having gone for a quick walk round the nearby park. Despite not really being 'open' they obliged my request for a drink and gave me a little history on the business. Lovely surroundings, nice outdoor area, lots of parking... And most importantly, a cracking gin! Lovely and smooth, served with aromatics. Picked up the brochure and it seems to be a very reasonable price for tours!
Thank you for your kind accommodation and I look forward to returning!
C. H.
Steve was a legend who knew what he was talking about and made it really interesting. Definitely worth booking a tour!
E. W.
We had a really interesting tour and the staff are very passionate about what they do and sustainability, lots of delicious tastings, high quality gin! I would recommend this to anyone in the area
E. M.
We had a lovely tour on a chilly Wednesday afternoon. it was meant to be 45 minutes but lasted longer - the tour guide was really passionate about what she was talking about and took lots of questions. It was a very interesting tour, great to learn about the origins of the business and how its working today - including all the efforts to be as sustainable and local as possible. All the people we met on site were very friendly and welcoming, including the master distiller. The spirit tasting was generous and delicious! We will be back again when the new cafe space is open, and to taste the whiskey when it is ready. This was a great afternoon, and makes a change from many other activities you can do in/around Oxford which are usually related to the University or museums.
M. H.
A really informative tour led by knowledgeable people who actually run the distilling process. Also very good value for money, between the two of us on the tour we must have had seven measures of various spirits. Also had a nice outdoor seating area but sadly we didn't have time to stay for more drinks.
K. P.
We were only in South Park for a walk and didn't realise the Distillery was open, so it was a pleasant surprise on such a warm day.
Staff are super friendly, full covid restrictions in place, great selection of drinks and easy to order straight from the table.
Nice afternoon in the sunshine.
S. D.
We had a very informative tour with the lovely Alisha today, Alisha was a very accomplished tour guide and answered some of our very quirky questions, the barn is a beautiful building and the gin was lovely my favourite being the ashmolean gin it was stunning, the stills are very impressive a work of art in their own right, well worth a visit, lovely venue and people and Fred the dog
C. H.
Had a fab tour here with my fiancée and two friends. Great conversion of an old structure. The tour given by one of the distillers was hugely interesting and he showed an obvious passion for his work. The gin/vodka tasting was generous and very very tasty (don't go on an empty stomach!). The tour was described as 45 minutes but as was made clear at the start would easily over run as there's so much to be shown and you can't drink spirits that quickly! Defo worth the money/time, just don't book anything too close to the tour like we did! 😂
O. S.
A lovely place at the top of South Parks. If you fancy a high quality cocktail, but don't want to drive to the city centre and dress up, this is a perfect spot. A very relaxed place with superb quality drinks. The sitting is outside with lots of tables. Plenty of shade from large trees and parasoles. It is easy to order drinks, each table has a sticker with a code, you need scan it with any smartphone and it takes you to the bar menu. No need to install a new app. FAB
M. M.
Great knowledgeable tour by the distillers themselves with good info on the processes they go through. Nice samples and good atmosphere.
M. A.
Really enjoyable afternoon...first time of taking advantage of the new outdoor setting. Lovely under the canopy of the chestnut trees
Great service and was even able to purchase my bottle of gin from the shop on the app and delivered to our table. Well done TOAD.
G. B.
Relatively new distillery with an interesting story and delicious early product. Friendly and quirky staff make the tour a memorial experience.
TOAD, as it's lovingly called, offers a wide range of distilled spirits all based on an ancient the, brought back from the ages and grown with no intervention through entirely organic and biodynamic processes. The result is a unique grain that produces a rich, flavorful spirit.
Even their single distilled vodka is unique and has chocolate and caramel flavors. I don't love vodka, but still brought home a bottle. Apparently I'm not alone, this bottle one the best vodka in the works and has been served at the Russian embassy!
My favorite was the Distillers Edition Oxford The, which is just slightly too young to officially call a whisky, but just as delicious. I cannot wait until December when they bottle their first 3+ year old whisky.
The staff was super friendly, and we really got a behind-the-scenes tour with plenty of free drinks. I can't wait to come back!!
J. Z.
Freakin' A. Everyone is a legend who actually knows what they're talking about, and most importantly, their spirits are precisely as good as they claim they are.
G. C.
Excellent tour and tasting by enthused and very knowledgeable staff. They give lots of information in a friendly way encouraging inquisitiveness. The gin and vodka are really good and I am exciting to sample the whiskey in English oak. The initial raw sampling promises lots. Well worth a visit for a little education and an informal exploration of a truly artisan distillery.
K. R.
Excellent independent distillery making Gin and Rye Whisky. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff who make selecting the right product a pleasure.
V. B.
Had a brilliant 1hr tour of the site. The lady who was talking us through was knowledgeable and fun. The two stills are quite amazing. The smell of alcohol hits you as soon as you walk into the main distilling shed. Smelt and tasted some of the raw ingredients used in the process and then tried the finished product in small shot glasses some with tonic some with lemon, lime, pink grapefruit all in all a fantastic hour( probably lasted a bit longer than the hour, great fun).
S. E.
We had an amazing time at the distillery. The guys & girls there are so passionate about what they do & the Gin is WOW. The tour was excellent giving you a great insight into how the process works. Highly recommend this place.
S. B.
If you like gin, then this is an amazing place to visit. Even if you don't like gin, you should visit! They don't just make gin! We went on the founder's tour and loved every minute. Tom is the CEO and an extremely passionate man who believes in his product and the company's vision. They are doing some really good stuff here, it's innovative, forward-thinking and very tasty! Tom creates an experience that is informative and so much fun.
Brian picked us up from the information centre in town and drove us to the distillery; the whole experience was well planned and ran smoothly. Brian is a thoroughly good guy and we loved talking to him.
Book yourself on a tour, take a friend, and have a fun time!
J. T.
Went to the distillery at the weekend with my girlfriend. Had a wonderful time the staff were very pleasant, hands on behind the scenes look at the huge stills, their rectification towers, the lab, mill and their huge barrels for storing the fermenting grain. Really good to see a distillery making their own spirit from grain and it is very unusual for a company to do this today.
I recommend this place to anyone who is interested to see how spirit is made and how they make their vodka, whisky, absinth and most importantly GIN!
L. N.
Really enjoyed our tour of TOAD on Tuesday December 4th 2018. It was so informative and interesting and it’s a truly unique experience. Our tour guide was lovely and, from the history of the place to the tastings, was full of information and made it good fun too. Bought a selection box of 3 gins and a vodka, and also a bottle of the Dam Slo Gin which was divine.
I. K.
Very interesting. We took the tour of 45 minutes, super!! Very dedicated people, fully tour. Even visited the lab. Very nice people and the tasting!! A must do when you are in the neighborhood.
P. H. L.

Gin and jazz was ace! Lovely outdoor seating area with sofas, Orla Kiely cushions and comfy throws was a very nice touch. Unfortunately icing on the carrot cake was too thick and too cold, very sickly.
G. L.
An amazing tour with phenomenal products that are extremely unique
J. H.
Not had a chance to visit yet but ordered a bottle of this gin after watching Countryfile. The bottle is beautiful and the gin is amazing. Mellow and smooth and the best I've drunk in a long time.

Cannot fault a single thing this team creates. The recent limited edition rye (Sauternes cask) is actually a work of art, and I hope everyone at T.O.A.D is as proud of it as I am happy with my purchase.

(Translated) It was a very nice tour. At a major brewery, it's hard to see equipment and fermenting products up close like this. You can observe the brewing process from a distance as if you were a production staff yourself.
Tasting not only tells you about the history of a product, but also about its enthusiasm and thoughts, so you won't have any trouble opening the bottle you bought and talking about it with your loved ones.
Dear Sarah, thank you for the amazing tour!
(Original)
Dear Sarah, thank you for amazing tour!
A. N.
(Translated) Very exciting and fun tour. Fantastic gin, vodka and some kind of whiskey to taste and buy. Highly Recommended!!!

(Translated) It was a great experience! The people put a lot of love into the company and took a lot of time to show and explain everything to us. Despite the small space, there was a lot to see and learn. There was a lot of laughter and the short but exciting story was well told. An absolute MUST in Oxford. Fabulous gin and vodka made for an intoxicated mood on our arrival. We will be back!!!
