Traveled from Hunmanby to collect a bottle they'd kindly reserved and set aside for me. Had a brilliant chat with a chap who had recently moved from the Oxford shop. Friendly staff. Great service!

Staff were really helpful and friendly, we asked about the whiskey club & they talked about how to be a part of it and whats good about it, and was persuaded into joining, while also getting a premium looking whiskey case with some lovely bottles included. Plenty of different types to choose from ranging from low to high in price. Always worth popping in!

Really fantastic guidance and tasting from the team at The Whisky Shop - York. I visited as an amateur in Whisky but with a newfound taste for Smoky-Peaty Islay blends having only recently tried Talisker 10. I was welcomed and talked through many options with generous samples of each. The Chap who looked after me clearly understood my tastes and I was extremely happy to walk away with a bottle of Balvenie 'The Week of Peat' Story #2 which I'm thoroughly enjoying. All thanks to the super service. I'll see you next year, and thanks!

Great shop to find some unique small batch whiskies. Staff were very helpful, patient, and knowledgeable. We let the store with a good (15 year Glenallachie) whisky, and several whisky glasses. Reasonable prices.

After calling in advanced and speaking to Chris, I visited the store at York to drop in some bottles that I'd set aside to auction. I've got lots of open bottles at home at the moment and had no intention to buy anymore. However, whisky chat turned into samples to try and I came away with a bottle of Glen Scotia (a favourite distillery at the moment) and a couple of Benriach minitures. Friendly knowledgeable chat beats any online shopping experience every time.

Fabulous range of whiskies and very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Visiting The Whiskey Shop York has become a Christmas tradition of mine the past few years. My dad, the resident whiskey enthusiast in my family, has a few very specific flavor profile he likes (Oban/Islay/smokey/peatey stuff... can you tell I'm not a whiskey person??) and every year for the past 5-or-so years the staff here have helped me pick something he has loved. Highly recommend this shop both for those looking to buy for others and for the whiskey nerds themselves.

I went into this establishment sometime in November and bought two 70cl bottles of Lagavulin. The guy on shift was friendly. Also it nice being among a wide vasriety of whisky's. If you ever have jobs available please email me directly.

As you'd expect a very good selection of whisky. The service was very good, with the assistant able to find me an alternative to a much loved but now discontinued Jura. Pricing isn't bad, especially when you consider it's bricks and mortar and has a lot of overheads that Amazon etc don't. Worth popping in for a browse!

Top place for sampling great tastes! Some amazing malts and blends here and it doesn't just sell whiskey! A favourite of my son and he is a bit of a connoisseur so if we ever visit York, this place is definitely on the 'to do' list.

Stunning range of whiskies available here. Rare single malts down to old favourites such as Bells and Grants. Shop staff could have been friendlier though. I detected a frankly icy demeanour when I asked for a bottle of Gordon's. Otherwise an excellent experience.

Absolutes loved this whisky shop when I visited York October 2016. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and helped me to find a few family Christmas presents, as well as a little something for myself. Got another one of these shops near where I'm from but the service from the York store is far superior

The shop looks nice and there is plenty of selection, however most of these whiskys can be bought cheaper elsewhere - even local supermarkets. The staff weren't very helpful, when I asked for advice on a whisky without too much peat they simply led me to the Jack Daniels section and went to stand back at the till. Do your research and buy either in a supermarket or online.

Wow, I was like a kid in a sweet shop, a very poor kid at that though!! So many whiskeys to buy, from cheap to expensive. Some rare ones in there too I believe. The staff were fine, approached us to ask if we were okay, but left us to it to browse. Took a couple of pics of the expensive ones just to torment myself. Wish you could have a little taster though, haha. What a great shop!!

This is probably the most petty thing I've ever done in my life but here goes. I used to work here, I am the member of staff mentioned in one of their bad reviews. As I no longer work there I don't feel any need to be professional. The reviewer who talks about being asked to leave before we shut is talking out of his behind. He came in two minutes before closing and was asked if he wanted anything bang on five (closing time on a Sunday) I'm not sure what shops he's going to that let you stay and browse after closing time when you've stated you're not going to buy anything but I've never came across one. I had on many occasions stayed with customers (unpaid) after closing time to make sure they got the right whisky for them but I was certainly not just going to keep the shop open for people who had no interest in buying anything. It's a shop not a museum

Popped in today to see what they had and was pleasantly great in a friendly manner straight away . The gents ( We shall call them jedi rob & bag-ripper Gary) was very knowledgeable and laid back but deftly helpful if you haven't just walked in after they've shut after a long and no doubt busy day .......... We had a great chat and a little taste and ended up buying a very nice benriach 10 year old whilst buying the bottle rob smoothly started helping a American elderly "gent" who simply had seen the bottles out and "just wanted a damn taste!) Whilst at the till Gary was showing off how great and strong the bags are ....... 5 bags in we all laughed and his eyes started to twitch! 😁 We shook hands thanked them for there time and me and my wife left rob to try and deal with customers who are not always as nice and poor Gary growling at the bags ! ! ! Only 4 out of 5 stars as at no point was there any pushy sales pitch , harassment or followed around the shop ! Seriously guys be proud of yourselfs great and friendly manner , and if your bosses read this they deserve a star wars advent calendar as a bounus ! ✔👌 will and saz
