I first heard about the Alexander Technique years ago but finally decided to give it a try when I experienced lower back pain recently. I found the lessons with Mark helped me beyond my back pain, I am much more aware of the impact of stress on my body AND that 'trying' to have a great posture is not necessarily the best way to stand and sit! Mark explained things really well, I got a lot from the lessons and feel motivated to continue to put them into everyday practice.

Mark has been teaching me the Alexander Technique for the past six months. He is a fantastic teacher and has taught me how to move and sit in a different and more open way. I have learnt how emotions can affect posture and create tension in the body. Mark has also taught me methods which help with stressful and challenging situations. Learning the Alexander Technique has been invaluable and I cannot recommend Mark more highly.

I came to Mark for Alexander Technique lessons experiencing neck pain related to long days at the computer and playing the violin. Mark has a great, clear teaching style which, over four lessons, have led to many positive changes in posture and body-awareness, leading to reducing muscle tension.
My neck pain is significantly reduced and still improving, despite long days at the computer and continuing to play the violin. I would recommend Alexander lessons with Mark to anyone, as they provide a valuable toolbox of techniques to prevent and reduce pain and promote body-awareness, which will have life-long utility.

I have been learning Alexander technique with Mark. He is an excellent teacher, taking it personally and showing amazing empathy and supoort. Mark has taught me how to move and sit more effectivley in order to manage migraines. I am now medication free bringing migraines to a manageable state. We have worked on not just the physical but the emotional aspect of managing migraines to great success.
Mark comes with my highest recomendation. Learning the Alexander Technique has made huge differences to my life. Thank you Mark.

I visited Mark after suffering with chronic sciatica for over 10 years. Mark's teaching of the amazing Alexander Technique is relaxed yet fun, immensely practical and incredibly interesting. I now understand how my postural and emotional habits are the primary cause of my physical pain. This isn't a quick fix solution to graft on top of an existing problem but a method of completely rebalancing oneself mentally and physically for the rest of one's life. Mark's lessons have provided me with a new sense of balance and coordination and my ability to cope with stressful situations has improved immeasurably. I look forward to continuing working with Mark and encourage anyone considering the Alexander Technique to go ahead and arrange a lesson with him.

I have had 12 lessons with Mark to address ongoing lower back pain that I had for 18 months.
I have had some success with acupuncture and chiropractic, but nothing that lasted, and it all relied upon someone else giving me treatments.
I was surprised at how little I had to "do"in my first lesson - in fact Alexander Technique is all about doing less and allowing your body to revert to it's natural, stress -free state.
I have found I am applying what I have learned on a daily basis (not just when I do my constructive rest) and have found it very helpful in everyday movement, including my yoga practice.
I now have no back pain at all and it feels great to know that I have the skills to keep it that way.

Been seeing Mark for over 6 months now. Had never heard of Alexander Technique before my physio mentioned it to me after I had been having tension type headaches. My headaches are nearly all gone, I am a lot calmer, my posture is improving and everything Mark says makes sense. I have strategies to help ease tension in stressful situations and although still got a little way to go to get rid of all my bad habits, what Mark has done for me I will use for the rest of my life! Money very well spent and I would not hesitate in recommending.
Thanks Mark, Jon Myers

I booked a course of 8 classes to help me improve my posture especially as I felt my head sometimes sat too far forward and my neck was often stiff and immobile. Even after one session I noticed a difference .. I felt more upright and taller .. but not in a forced unnatural way. Whilst after long hours at the computer I still feel that head forward posture returning the Alexander lessons have given me tools to use to help counteract this. I try and use the principles Mark has taught me when running, sitting at the PC.. and in my work as a massage therapist. I would highly recommend Mark to anyone wanting to improve posture, reduce stress (emotional and / or physical) or resolve chronic muscular pain.

I went to see Mark for help with neck and shoulder pain after years hunching over desks. I found the sessions helped very quickly with this. Mark is a great teacher and I learned how to deal with and gradually lose habits picked up way back in childhood. As well as getting rid of the pain, an added bonus is that I've found Alexander Technique has helped enormously in other areas of my life such as singing, public speaking and sport. I recommend Mark highly.

I was suffering from crippling sciatica when I first went to see Mark. After just four sessions I am now more positive about my recovery, much more mobile and can see the light at the end of the tunnel! I've learned so much more than I expected about the mind body connection and how crucial it is to have a healthy mind if we want a healthy body. I'm looking forward to more sessions so that I can finally banish my back problems for good!

As a keen horse rider, balance and alignment are very important to me.
My sessions with Mark were instrumental in showing me how to be aware of my body movements and how to release the tensions, learned through a lifetime of bad habits, which block the harmony between horse and rider.
My riding is now more fluid, consistent and effective. And my muscles don't play up any more because I am aware of how to avoid the habits that create the aches!
I'm not perfect, but I now know what to look out for. Thank you Mark.

I visited Mark a few times over a period of 4 months. It was really helpful to recognise my bad habits and I am now much more aware of my posture acnd how I do things. My back is very grateful. My husband also benefitted mostly from sessions with Mark. He had an injury a few weeks ago and Alexander technique changed his lode, much better and long lasting results than osteopathy or chiropractors. Thanks Mark

The thing with having treatment for back pain is that you become dependent on the treatment. Which makes you feel a bit helpless.
The great thing about Alexander Technique is that you learn new ways of moving and then its up to you. Makes you less dependent.
I had 6 sessions with Mark. I’d done Alexander Technique 20 years ago and it really helped, but I’m older and less flexible now so I thought I’d remind myself of the good things I’d learned.
His approach was different – and really good.
He has a way of saying things that make them stick in the memory.
Which is really useful when I’m bending or even just walking.
For me a really good investment and I would thoroughly recommend.

I saw Mark for about ten sessions over three months last year and it had a very lasting impact on me. When I first came to Mark I had been suffering from back pain for around nine months and had tried various other therapies. But it was seeing Mark that really started to turn things around. Now, a year later, my back is pretty good most the time, and whenever it plays up I just go back to my exercises and lessons from Mark, which seems to help me avoid relapsing into chronic pain. Mark's approach is very consistent and methodical, and he doesn't make it too complicated. Try it.

I had a course of sessions with Mark over several months and found it completely changed my attitude to my body. My back had been worsening for years, allied to that I had developed headaches and had to reduce my sporting activites due to recurrent injuries. Mark has taught me how the problems were occurring and has given me easy practical tools to treat the muscle tensions that cause the problems. I am more mobile and able to even play tennis again which is huge for me.

As a Fibromyalgia sufferer for 15 years, I am learning to relax chronic muscular tensions through Mark's expert guidance and gentle manipulations. And, with very limited energy, am learning the importance of pacing myself -- something I've never been good at. This plus regular walking and improved diet meant that a few weeks ago I was feeling more energy than I'd had for years, despite still not getting much sleep. However due to pressure from neighbours both sides objecting to overgrown ivy from my back garden (ruining the newly painted house of one) -- and feeling invincible! -- I recklessly ignored the need for pacing. I spent many hours with long-handled loppers and secateurs, chopping rampant, neglected ivy away from my back door to enable the door to open fully, and allow a garden clearance outfit to get through it. (Then spent more hours scouring ivy footprints from the door.) Turning up to an Alexander lesson the next day I was predictably exhausted: with atrocious pains in my lower back, between my shoulder blades and in the "other" shoulder (than the usual ex-frozen shoulder). Amazingly, all this pain had gone by 45 minutes later when I left Mark's studio. Despite this lapse (with repercussions lasting for weeks -- a lesson to me) I am also learning to be less reactive to normally stressful events and situations. And, with a range of techniques for expanding awareness, am becoming more "present", with a quieter mind. I would recommend Alexander Technique to anyone suffering from Fibromyalgia or other versions of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

I'm more than happy to recommend Mark's services.
Having spent twenty five years hunched over a PC and a lifetime attempting to 'stand up straight' I was in almost constant pain, with a crackly, stiff neck and shoulders and violent shooting pains developing down my upper arms.
I'd had enough, and to be honest I was getting a bit desperate. OK, I am no spring chicken, but I am far too young to suffer so much!
I'd had massages in the past, which helped for a while, but the effects soon wore off. I knew there was nothing wrong with my bones, so an osteopath wasn't what I needed. As it turns out, my decision to try the Alexander Technique was the right one.
The pain calmed right down after a couple of weeks, so much so that I stopped noticing it, and it has got steadily better ever since. A few months down the line it's amazing - a pain-free life al last. Mark has patiently, expertly taught me use and treat my body differently, and the results are remarkable.
It has also been a pleasure. Mark is personable, gentle, kind, friendly, professional and fun. I'd gladly recommend him. I'm carrying on with my lessons, not because I think the pain will return - it won't - but because there's so much more to learn and so much further I can take it.
Thanks Mark, you're a gentleman and a scholar!

I went to see Mark before I was due to give a talk to a group of therapists. I was quite nervous about it, and I was conscious that I risked racing through it, not only not enjoying giving the talk but not making any sense to my audience as I sped through it to get to the end! My session with Mark was more than remarkable! Through his guidance I started to feel my feet on the ground again, and as I delivered some of what I was going to say I felt the tension leave my body and a tremendous sense of being grounded, focused and together as I talked it through with him. The next day I remembered the techniques and strategies Mark had taught me, applied them and BOOM! I thoroughly enjoyed giving my talk, and in fact I was disappointed when it was over! No tension headache, no nervous tummy, just me there enjoying being present and grounded and speaking about a subject I'm passionate about! Thanks Mark! The next time I'm in Brighton I will definitely be back ! All the best, Kathleen x

I first discovered Alexander Technique many years ago when living in Southampton. Having gained a lot of release and freedom during my initial sessions I have got in the habit of having sets of refresher classes to help ensure I haven't picked up any bad habits.
Having moved to Brighton a few years back I was looking for a new teacher and found Mark. I am very glad that I did as his professional and friendly approach has been just right for these refresher sessions. I have even learnt more and released more as a result of working with him.
I will be back for another set of refresher lessons in the near future.

Mark is an extremely professional and personable practitioner who I have been seeing for over a year. He has helped me enormously and my overall stress has been reduced by our weekly sessions, as well as the problems I had with my back. I can't recommend him highly enough.

Alexander Technique is a great way to relieve pain and to get rid of harmful tension in the body, and the best person to go to for Alexander Technique is Mark Claireaux. I often refer my patients to him, knowing that the techniques he teaches will offer my patients a long-term solution to their pain or discomfort.

I was in agony and could hardly walk. I went to Alexander Technique Central Brighton after it was recommended by a friend and I haven't had any trouble since and that was a year and half ago! Great sessions with lots of useful stuff to do at home that keep you healthy and your back and body in check. A great service and friendly instruction. Can't recommend highly enough.

I cannot rate Marc highly enough! I have suffered with headaches and migraines for many years and almost instantly these started to disappear. I used to get a lot of upper back and neck pain too but this has now gone. His lessons helped me to change my postural habits and which in turn has seriously changed my quality of life. He is an excellent teacher and always makes you feel at ease. Worth every penny!!!
