Great shop. The staff seem to love working at the store, they’re all outdoors people and are very knowledgeable about the kit they sell. They also have excellent local knowledge about walking and weather, so if they ask if you need any help say yes and get chatting. Good selection of kit and a tempting selection of kit you didn’t think you needed and probably don’t, but end up buying anyway. They have another shop half a click up the road that sells some lovely lifestyle but practical outdoor clothing.

Quality of items as good as ever ( particularly with re-vamped ex-Rock Bottom) but a pity that many of the more experienced, knowledgeable staff seem to have been replaced with very young retail assistants - disappointing that an older couple who wanted 'comfortable walking shoes' were sold running shoes rather than being directed to the partner shop. If you are pretty sure you know what you are looking for, this is still a destination retail outlet.

A proper fitting with detailed foot measurements, tons of advice from a lovely member of staff, very friendly and helpful. I now know how to lace my boots properly and look after them between walks. In Betws-y-Coed on the edge of the climbing, walking, hiking and camping area of the Snowdonia National Park Cotswold Outdoor is ideally located. It stocks a comprehensive range of items related to all of the activities mentioned above. It has an extensive and comprehensive range of outdoor clothing from all of the major manufacturers, at a full spread of prices from mid-range to expensive and a special area for boots and walking shoes. It also provides a full range of rucksacks and camping equipment. It stocks books, guides and all scales of maps mainly concentrating on Snowdonia and North Wales. There is a selection of compasses, satnavs and GPS systems - in fact most things you could possibly want or need for outdoor activities. Parking is 'pay and display'. It is reasonably priced but it is not specific to Cotswold and is used by anyone, particularly by customers of the Royal Oak next door. The turnover is fairly quick and spaces can usually be found, except perhaps at the height of Summer. The store is busy all the year round, particularly in the Summer, when Betws itself is always crowded. Overall it is an excellent store with staff who are always helpful and very knowledgeable.
