Reviews of Kooks Restaurant
P. H.
The service is great. And the food is as you’d expect, nothing really special but good.
It can be quite cramped but it definitely has a decent atmosphere.
I imagine it’s great in the summer when the outside seating is all available.

Breakfast on point.
Staff really friendly, think it was a guy called Tom who took us to the table. Very friendly and welcoming and great table service. We'll worth a visit if your down in the North laine
A.
My go-to spot for Sunday breakfast/lunch. The fry up is delicious, although its served with a thimble of baked beans. The staff are very friendly and attentive, but you can tell they're feeling the stress during busy periods. The coffee is great too (lots of alt. milk options). I really wish the sourdough toast was served with butter, it's a small difference but would elevate the dish
C. R.
Nice place. We went there after a shopping day in the lanes and we wanted different things and this place had everything. Small and sweet bites and big meals aswel. We had the eggs benedict and they were amazing. Definitely coming back! Also Tom and Alex were very nice and attentive.

Came for brunch with 2 other friends. We had to wait for a while because we didn't have a booking, but it was Sunday so we expected it.
The place was packed, we got a veggie breakfast, eggs royale and an halloumi sandwich with chips. Everything was good and the portions big. Wasn't particularly blown away by something specific - the falafel was good but you only get one with the veggie breakfast which is a shame. My friend said the salmon on the eggs royale was very fresh.
The staff was polite and efficient, they ended up taking away our plates when we were still finishing the chips and we had nowhere to put the ketchup, but they were running non stop so we didn't take it badly, although we did say we wanted to keep our plate.
The restaurant was a bit noisy.
I wouldn't mind going back, but if I had a choice I would look for something more exciting probably!

Absolutely incredible experience.
We’d heard so much about this place and despite not having a reservation, we decided to chance squeezing in, on what appeared to be a very busy Sunday.
The lady who greeted us straight away as we entered, we assumed was the owner and literally could not have been more accommodating.
At that particular moment there weren’t any tables available, but she assured us that she’d be able to fit us in shortly and invited us to sit at the bar while our table became available and was prepared.
My partner, friends and I passed the short wait while drinking delicious coffees and looking over the menus.
After we were sat at our table, an incredibly friendly and professional Canadian waitress informed us of the specials available that day (I had the Shakshuka) and took our order.
The food was incredible and really didn’t disappoint at all. Beautifully presented and deliciously tasty. The waiting staff and all round experience was nothing short of incredible.
Great value for money, with quality of food that was exceptional. All of this was coupled with a level of service that would normally cost you a fortune.
The chance walk-in without a reservation was well worth it. Although I’d highly recommend booking in-advance.

Went for brunch on a bank holiday weekend. It was busy, so I would recommend booking if there's more than three of you.
Food was delicious (I had avocado smash on toast with extra halloumi) and reasonably priced and service was quick and attentive. Great menu choices and catered for various dietary requirements.
Would definitely recommend and visit again.

We had brunch at Kooks this morning...we both had the Eggs Benedict with a side. Food was excellent, service was prompt and friendly, the bathrooms clean and smell free (very handy when the young master needs a nappy change).
Thanks folks, looking forward to coming back soon.

Only stopped by for coffee and dessert but both were lovely - quite busy and had to wait a while for the bill but overall experience was good. Nice relaxed atmosphere, despite being busy, and was perfect place to stop for refreshments during our visit to the Lanes 😍
B.
A little different putting an empty plate up but that sums up the experience well. Had the Eggs Royale and it did not last long. I had only remembered to take a picture one it was all said and done. Super friendly staff and very attentive. Will defiantly come back to try the rest of the menu. Highly recommended
M. O.
Lovely brunch today. Friendly and welcoming atmosphere with delicious food. We’ll definitely be back!
E. S.
Staff is super friendly, food was simple but tasty. Overall the place was super loud it was uncomfortable to having a conversation i felt like i need to shout.
M. P.
Amazing service! We had an issue finding a spot in the sun so the lovely young chap bought us a table out and put it all together for us. Nothing was too much trouble. I opted for the eggs Royale, amazing sourdough bread not just a plain muffin, great hollandaise sauce and salmon at a reasonable price, what more could you ask for?
G. E.
Loved the decor. Great service.
The best coffee I've tasted in 3 years (that was when I was last in Italy).
Fabulous cakes.
Lovely friendly staff.
P.
Delicious food but the full English is a little small! One piece of bacon, one sausage, a shot glass of baked beans, and its not that cheap considering. Very good, but not the best value
I.
The food was really good. Nice small restaurant/bar to go to in Central Brighton.
Giving it 5 stars and 9.5 out of 10.
I would highly recommend this place. 👍👍👍👍👍
A. S.
Amazing brunch! Very sweet but nice cakes, great coffee. Music is rocking and the enterior looks so cool. Also, you can come with your dog which is great
J. G.
We turned up thinking we had a booking... BUT the old owner had sold and not rebooked us
Tom was amazing and able to accommodate us despite the mess us🤩 John on the bar wad a DREAM!
Great food, great staff.... lovely bloody marys!
K. A.
Very nice little restaurant with friendly staff. Me and my partner went for the vegan breakfast we was expecting a greasy full English breakfast so was surprised to get this which was even better. The food was full of flavour with great presentation and the portion size was good filled us up just right.
A. S.
Everytime I go to Kooks, I always have a good experience. Food is great and service is very good. It is one of my favourite places in Brighton for brunch. Eggs florentine are really good and the eggs are always cooked perfectly. I definitely recommend it 😊
J. E.
We had such a nice brunch here today! I had the Eggs Benedict (amazing ham hock!) whilst my partner had the halloumi sandwich! The coffee is great and the bonus was our little dog was able to join us to. Service was excellent! Would definitely come again.
R. B.
Had an amazing breakfast here :) the Server Alex was amazing and so was the coffee made by the barista, highly recommend!
I. R.
One of the best breakfasts what I've ever had. So fresh and tasty...I've had guacamole on sourdough bread with egg benedict and top it up with my favorite halloumi. Coffee was amazing and service very friendly and helpful. Definitely one of the best places to go for later breakfast as they open at 10.
M. G.
Went there for breakfast on our last day in Brighton, was looking for a place that serves Eggs Benedict and this place had the highest rating. I didn't enjoy the food as much as I'd liked to but that's because of my personal preference. I like the original recepi for Eggs Benedict, with the ham slice; the one that I had here was more like pulled pork or something like that and it was weirdly sweet. Also had, what they said is "freshly squeezed orange juice" but it wasn't and it was really source, tasted like it had lemons in it...Again a personal preference. I'm giving it a 5 star because the place was clean, staff was lovely, we were greeted with a smile and the coffee was great. Also very affordable!
T. O. D. I.
Amazing! Food was delicious!
Eggs perfect, sausage REALLY nice, dog friendly and most of all great friendly happy staff Jon was especially lovley 😃
Highly recommend
c. w.
The best espresso martini I've ever had, thanks to Tom who served me.
O. C.
By far & away the best brunch in Brighton… and quite possibly the best service too (Michelin star-esq).
Simply a wonderful experience all round.
A. P.
Brunch was fab, great location, nice decor and friendly staff! We didn’t drink but they have an extensive drinks list for a booze brunch!
G.
Staffs are very welcoming and kind. Food is so great. Had a good experience here. I would recommend here strongly.
Z. L.
Booked for brunch for me & my husband & must say was not disappointed at all. Husband had full breakfast & I had eggs Royal totally amazing. Husband said he could eat it all again, but I didn't let him. Really good prices & staff very helpful & friendly. Wood advise to book as it does get really busy. Would definitely go again next time we're in Brighton.
S. G.
Good service and really tasty gluten-free cake - the Blueberry and lemon is divine
S. L.
Excellent cakes and coffee. Friendly staff

What a fabulous little place this is. From the food, to the staff and the atmosphere, you really can't help but love it. We came across kooks last week while on holiday in brighton and it was just the best find! As someone with many food in tolerances, its often very difficult for me to eat out. I get very apprehensive when trying somewhere new. The lovely waitress made me feel comfortable immediately. She stood with me while I went through my requirements and adapted the menu for me. She went back and forth to the kitchen to communicate with the chef to make sure everything would be okay and then she came back and ran through it all again with me to make sure she definitely had it right.. Everyone was amazing, the food was the best meal I've eaten out in years and we went back again before we left. Very reasonably priced and spotlessly clean, there's nothing not to love. I'm already booked for brighton again and this will definitely be my daily go to. I can't wait! Thank you guys.
A. W.
I Love Kooks it’s a very fantastic please to go to me and the waitress are best buds she is very nice i love coming to Kooks I love taking a break from Chatham by going to Brighton to have a drink I went to Kooks Today I had a nice drink There I really enjoyed today Thank you best day ever
Yours sincerely Angus Ware
T. R.
Nice coffee, good food and fairly priced for where it is. Service has been great both times I've been.
F. M.
Absolutely unreal brunch here, everything homemade, staff couldn't do enough for us and so fairly priced. Food was all delicious and coffees were great too. 100% worth a trip if you're in Brighton.
E. T.
The restaurant is located on a busy road. It would be great to take a seat after hanging around the area. I had the brunch with avocado, poached egg and cheese. The cheese was too heavy which wasn't my liking but the price was ok.
M.
Lovely breakfast with friendly staff. Ham hock on the eggs Benedict was delicious!
R. D.
Quality fresh food. I had the granola, and Debbie the smashed avocado breakfast. Tasty coffee, and Moscow mule drink. The bathroom door was badly damaged and offered no privacy.
S. H.
Loved this place. Good social distancing measures, great food, fab staff. We were made to feel very welcome at Kooks. The cakes in the window grabbed our attention, but it's their breakfast that won the day. This isn't a greasy spoon for eat-all-you-like breakfast buffet hunters. There's a little less on the plate, but it's all great quality fayre. I judge any breakfast by the quality of its sausages. Others judge theirs by bacon thickness or egg shape and colour. You know what I mean when I talk about a glistening, golden yolk sitting atop a perfectly white, unblemished island of arctic whiteness, right? Whatever your measure of breakfast greatness, you should be happy at Kooks. Enjoy!
E. B.
Had a delicious burger and chips. Friendly, competent staff. Reasonably priced. Recommended!
F. J.
Popped in as an on the spur of the moment choice for brunch.
We both had the avocado smash, which was very tasty.
Friendly staff, quick service and pleasant atmosphere.
Will come again!
A. C.
I spent a very nice time with my friend. Food is good and waitresses are kind. I recommend it
J. L.
Ordered the butchers breakfast with no tomato and no mushrooms. It average at best, waiting a good half hour, which I didn't really mind, what ruined it for me was the poached eggs, it was best described as eating fluffy water, even with the salt and pepper seasoning it lacked any really flavour. The sourdough toast was like a brick, even the steak knife I was given struggled to cut through it. All in all it wasn't terrible, it did fill me up which is all I wanted.
M. D. M. G. P.
The team was very nice and the food was amazing
A. H.
Place so nice went there twice....in one day. Best brunch in Brighton. Then later on hot chocolate and cake. Fantastic vibe and service. Rebecca runs a lovely place. Great coffee. Fabulous food. Wonderful staff. Thank you!
H. B.
Went there this morning, great food, not too heavy but nice and fulling, and definitely fresh. Staff were really friendly and efficient service. Coffees could be a little more jazzy but that's a personal preference.
M. W.
Superb food. Lovely coffee. Good service and friendly, helpful staff. No more needs saying.
C. H.
Stopped here for brunch today with my family. My daughter is quite fussy but really enjoyed it.Great service!Delicious food!Definitely worth a visit, if in Brighton.
G. Y.
A nice casual eatery where we stopped for coffee and cake. They were extremely busy so couldn't guarantee what they still had. But we managed to get 2 slices and 3 coffees which was enough to keep us fueled. The cakes were moist with good flavour and the coffee was, well coffee, neither fantastic nor terrible. Good price and we were in and out in about half an hour.
s. d.
Excellent breakfast. Reasonable price.
A. M.
I love this place! Been a fan for a while now. The food is always great, and I love the sunlit back area. The staff are always mega friendly, remember me, and are very accommodating. The music they play is good! That's pretty important. There are some murals throughout relating the final stages of the utopian human/audio-technology cyborg future we all know is coming. Some artworks are for sale as additional decoration. It's nice! The whole place is very nice and I recommend a visit.
A. A.
Absolute favorite coffee shop in Brighton. Cakes are always amazing and their food is always fresh and full of flavor. Love the tea selection and staff. Be warned this place can be very busy on the weekends and for lunch during the week but it's worth the wait.

Go every year.
Fantastic vegan offering chill vibes.
Excellent Canadian waitress.
M. O.
Super friendly staff staying positive and enthusiastic despite the challenges of COVID and the British weather! Lovely food and amazing salted caramel and pumpkin cake!
S. W.
We had the special from the sign outside - vegan breakfast roll with sauerkraut, tofu, cabbage etc. £5 with a coffee. It was very, very good . The coffee is also the best I've tasted so far on my trip to Brighton. At £5 its outstanding value, and we've come back for the second time. Great atmosphere, friendly staff, very cosy. Encourages good conversation over great food. The artwork is also great, a lovely Jimmy Hendrix piece. Come here!
D. T.
Nice venue with friendly staff and a good selection of food and drink available. I popped in for lunch and the service was fast which was perfect. The selection of cakes also looked great, although I managed to resist temptation! I will definitely be visiting again.
A. S.
Delicious (but small) plates. I was fine with the breakfast with white pudding (not thhaaaaaat authentic white pudding speaking as someone where It comes from!) But everyone else was delicious. The bacon was tasty af but my fellow diners were a bit upset with their dishes as they were very little , but tasty.
B. T.
Took the family there for a lunch to include two young children, fantastic food for all tastes. ordering food that wasn't shown on the menu for two kids was not any problem either. Great atmosphere and staff were very attentive. Would recommend anyone wanting a good hearty brunch to head here!
R. T.
Absolutely loved the kooks restaurant.me and my girlfriend came across this by sheer chance, and as another tea shop was closed we thought we would try this.i loved how friendly the staff were, and the indie music playing away which we both also enjoyed. We shared the lovely oreo cake and sat near the back with a lovely cool heater by the table. There is no wi fi but the only downside for me is that they don't do pots of tea, only cups, which is a bugbear for me .but that's the only one as I loved this place and would definitely return again ...as the song by primal scream played...come together.definitely will return!!!
H. R.
Absolutely amazing service. The waitress was friendly and helpful going above and beyond to check ingredients for our little one and suggesting alternatives. Would strongly recommend
J. R.
After a long walk itvwas nice to visit Kooks. Very nice Earl Grey tea with a slice of Orange Ginger Carrot cake edged with walnuts and pistachios, I notice these things! Nice staff chilled music and atmosphere. Will update as I try more main dishes.
D. G.
Nice coffee, pleasant atmosphere however the size of the chocolate cake my wife and I received was less than a sliver and for £4.25, a joke!
Hi you’ve responded by saying that occasionally size varies depending on someone’s eye. Well my wife and I had a piece each and both were extremely small, therefore size variation clearly was not the case. Unfortunately this experience has put me of returning to Kooks and with the amount of coffee/cake shops in Brighton I suggest you take comments like mine seriously.
s. g.
Great food and the girl serving us was brill. The guy with the weird hair (lockdown over mate sort it) hitting on my wife was also great. 5 star.
R. S.
Great spot for Brunch.
Super friendly and welcoming staff. Effiecient and genuine.
Lucy was amazing, and helped us to find some local activities to do around the area.
Would come back on next visit to Brighton to try more things from the menu.
B. L.
It's 10.30 on a Sunday and it's not packed but very welcoming. Orders taken quickly with a smile from a menu littered with references to sourdough. Past that dull inevitability, the food was great and came quickly ... The side of chips was a little too tempting to resist and well worth the extra calories ...
R. H.
Good food and friendly staff. Nice for casual dining
M. M.
Kooks... soooooooooo, deliciously tasty!
Wow... what a great stumble across.
Finally, there is a place that can meet all your hunger driven desires.
It looks great and comes across even better.
The staff are fantastically warm and are more than attentive to all your needs & requests.
As is the owner, who has the warmest, most welcoming smile and disposition I’ve seen for a long time.... it’s refreshing (... & somewhat all too rare) to come across such a content & professional workforce.
Then there’s the food!
The menu has obviously been put together by a genuine taste guru.
Everything is presented so thoughtfully and made with such an obvious amount of dedication and care. The results of this attention to detail are beyond impressive. All of which will leave your taste buds screaming for more.
I guarantee, you will return, again and again.
Do not visit Brighton without taking the opportunity for your body, mind and soul to experience Kooks & their sensational menu.
The drinks menu is also an absolute delight... and their expresso martinis are to die for.
S. D.
Not the largest of establishments, but that's part of its appeal. The food is fantastic and well priced. Great selection of drinks, would highly recommend the bloody Mary with brunch. Good decor and friendly and attentive staff.
B. A.
Really incredible food - menu is very well varied yet not over complicated. A rarity in restaurants these days, when they try and cater for everyone. Kooks does this in a simple stylish way - if you don't like the choice of food on the menu then go to McDonalds as I'm sure your tastes will be better suited there. The staff were wonderful and polite and could do nothing more than make the experience A1. I would recommend the Pork Belly - big compliments to the chef on that. A must for any foodie - Visit Kooks - you won't be disappointed.
A. W.
Always a great place for a cup of coffee and a bite to eat!
S.
Unassuming and beautiful. Lovely staff and some of the best food. Defo eat here again
A. R.
Sandwiches were fantastic!! The houlumi sandwich and the bacon sandwich were delicious! Would highly recommend. Service was the only downfall. Long wait to get served, 20 minutes and then another long wait to get the bill and then them to come back to take payment. But if you have time, sandwiches are device 😀
f. c.
Food was good. Portion sizes not massive but was ok for me. Chef did a very good job. Service minimal with no interaction or smile but they are young so we'll let them off. If you can put up with flat service give it a try.
A. M.
Lovely place gluten free options that helped bottle of water whilst you wait for your food, piping hot tasty food great service
B. R.
Breakfast food very good, quite tasty. Coffee almost uses a Turkish espresso as the base (which tends to be not milk-friendly), so it's quite a strong and bitter flavour, which is good for black coffees.
K. A.
Super friendly staff and a super scrumpy sausage roll! Will definitely be heading back for one of their tasty-looinh takeaway burgers 😋
D. M.
The best burger in town… perhaps anywhere!
Apart from this place doing the most delicious all-day breakfasts in Brighton. They also do dishes beyond the brunch realm for which they are infamous.
I am a frequent visitor (simply because, they are the best in town… bar none, at everything… it would seem.
I have been slowly working my way through the menu and the other day I had their absolutely fantastic burger, which comes with mouth-wateringly delicious, homemade, red onion marmalade… OMG!!!
Mind blowing (… & lot’s of other colourful adjectives) does not do the experience justice. Please, just try it for yourself… you’ll totally not regret it and for sure, you’ll agree with me.
I’ve been all over the world (several times). I’ve lived and travelled extensively in the states. However, I can honestly say, hand on heart… Kooks burger is by far and away, the best burger I’ve evert tasted.
Kooks in general, is the perfect stop, while in the centre of Brighton. The warm, friendly and attentive staff, are a very pleasant and welcome change from the all too depressing norm.
The menu is extensive, for both food and drink and their background music selection is inspired.
Everything about this place, from their gigantic, fairytale appearance, window cakes. To their exceptionally addictive Expresso Martinis… screams attention to detail.
The most pleasant part by far, is if you’re lucky enough to grab a minute or two, to talk with the owner, Rebecca (as the place is always so busy). A wonderful Aussie, who has made it her mission to bring a memorable eating experience, to the very lucky people and visitors of Brighton.
*Kooks have plans to open the evenings soon… lucky Brightonians.
W. B.
Really nice sandwich'o'burger xDxD
R. G.
Great place to have a sundat brunch and great staff with amazing service with a smile..any one to Brighton shouldn't miss the opportunity to have a meal here.
Try their wines some of them are selected by the place itself. That's personal touch which is hard to find in restaurants these days.
W. B.
Great service, awesome food.
J. C.
Just had a great brunch, food excellent and staff really friendly :)
T. K.
Good price, nice quality to the food with an option to enjoy the outside area on the street within Brighton. Quick service, staff could have been more attentive which would've bettered the overall experience.

M. H.
Lovely place for breakfast, lunch or dinner. I had the fish and chips and they were great (including the mushy peas which I'm not usually a fan of) - looks like they do cocktails in the evenings which I'm certainly going to go back and try at some point
S. S.
Great sunny spot in Brighton, super nice service , got us a table even though they were busy!
T. B.
Fantastic coffee, flawless Eggs Royale, all served very quickly with a smile by a lovely waitress, I think her name might be Lucy? Absolute babe!

(Translated) Nice and cozy. But one star less for the plate of Parma ham with too dry focaccia and one less for cold toilets that smell moldy.

Sympa et cosy. Mais une étoile en moins pour l’assiette de jambon de parme avec de la focaccia trop sèche et une de moins pour les toilettes froides qui sentent le moisies.
