Reviews of Cruickshank Botanic Garden
L. T.
Beautiful and peaceful botanical gardens. Lots of pretty flowers in the summer. Near Aberdeen university.
R. G.
A really nice quiet peaceful place to visit for a half hour or just sit down on one of the many seats and enjoy the flowers and the trees.
Some parts are a bit overgrown with weeds but all the gardeners I saw were working really hard to get the place looking nice.
It's open till 7pm I think so is definitely worth a visit.
S. T.
Amazing underrated gem, you can enjoy a gorgeous walk that’s highly educational with bits and pieces to explore on your wander, all for free!
C. P.
A very peaceful, lovely place that is well tended. The area through the lovely gate is 'wilder'. Always a great place to relax and listen to the bees in.

I went here in the summer, and just sat and watches the wildlife. Its such a relaxing pleasant place away from the rush of life.
E. P.
Super place to visit. Free, too. Just beside St Machar Cathedral and Seaton Park in Old Aberdeen.
C.
Very well kept with a good variety of topiary. Not much can be said as to its uniqueness although it definitely provides a sense of tranquility from busy roads around
J. P. J. W.
Beautiful place with many flowers! Relaxing walk and birds chirping in the background. Truly a relaxing walk and stroll away from the city buzz.
M. G.
First visit to the botanical gardens this year as it only reopened at the end of April. We had the place to ourselves so was great for a tranquil walk around in the fresh air.
C. B.
Lovely place to visit. Beautiful plants and flowers and peaceful to slowly walk around.
P. M.
Don't miss the Zoological department (only open weekdays). We didn't know it was there and there were lots of fascinating exhibits.
A. M.
This garden is a hidden gem, it is so nice and peaceful. It is easy to walk past the entrance but if you find yourself here you will be very pleased. Entrance is free and the garden is open except at Christmas time. For me I like to take a seat and enjoy a bit of peace and quiet it is a shame so few visit this garden.
R. R.
Lovely hidden garden in the city, peaceful and plant names very informative.
T. M.
A lovely quiet place to wander about , we visited in November and even then there was colour and peace
A. M.
Nice, quiet and tucked away gardens. I love coming here on a sunny day and chilling next to the pond.
G.
Beautiful little oasis in the middle of the city. Quiet and beautiful, and the entry is free.
K. a. B.
Nice, quiet, quaint, nothing too much but a welcome green oasis with well-kept plant life in the Granite City. No explanations of or background info on the plants for curious visitors, but definitely a place to enjoy.
M.
Lovely staff. Garden well managed. All plants labeled with family, genus and species names. Great collection of plants. Lovely to go in spring when all the flowers are coming out!
W. P.
It's a nice place to sit and relax
M. P.
A good place to relax the whole year round
C. S.
Quite small but really with some really interesting plants, though supposedly has a lot of cacti however the area was closed off and the park in general could do with a bit of weeding and maintenance.
A. M.
Beautiful and lovely spring area. ❤️
A. L.
A wonderful garden with some beautiful specimens!
A. I.
A real hidden gem right beside one of the city's busiest roads but you'd never realise, so peaceful. Unusual range of plants and some great specimen trees, could do with some more signs or info for those of us interested but nice to hang out. Very few staff but they work hard and obviously take pride in this little place
M. M.
Lovely gardens to visit before lockdown. Unsure what the visitor situation is like now :)
I highly recomend grabbing a coffee to go and sitting on one of the benches with a book when the sun is out!
Not as pretty in the autumn/winter but that can be expected.

Such a nice place to walk and enjoy of the garden, flowers and perfumes.
It is such a wonderful experience
T. D.
Still relatively unknown to locals, this idyllic garden is as beautiful as it is fascinating. Hopefully the "events" being hosted here will draw more attention to this local gem. A calming pit-stop during a busy day.
It's just a pity it isn't open early enough to go for a morning coffee.
V.
The Botanic garden is beautiful and a good place to just go sit in the nice weather if you aren't interested in plants and trees. But if you have a keen interest there is lots to touch, smell and see. I will definitely be back again.
S. L. S.
Very nice place with natural relaxation.
L. C.
Such a beautiful place for reading or studying on a summer afternoon surrounded by flowers and buzzing bumblebees! The "hidden" arboretum is a real gem of silence and tranquility. Well done to the people who are taking care of it, keep up the good work!
A. G.
Great place to have a wonder or chill out has an Arboretum and toilets in zoology building free admission
M. K.
Great little get-away and so beautiful in the summer. The manager of the Gardens-Mark- is absolutely lovely and takes so much pride in his work. If you see him make sure to stick around for a chat!
S.
Calm and peaceful, is the perfect description of this delightful garden. In addition to the fact that there is no admission and you can go in whenever you want, the garden itself is absolutely beautiful, with plants from all over the world gathered there. As you go inside, you will find yourself surrounded by a stunning array of aromatic flowers, and patches of lawn perfect for having a picnic. If you venture in further, there is a wall that separates the flower garden from the arboretum ahead, which displays all kinds of trees from around the world. Keep in mind that the gate built into the wall is a must see - it is a piece of artwork that looks like it must have come from the Secret Garden. Then there is an arboretum, and which includes a huge 150 year old beech, the pride of the garden. If you live in Aberdeen, you should visit the Garden at least once, and the same goes for tourists visiting Aberdeen.

It was start of September and gardens were filled with weeds. Not sure if it was for students to return and clean or covid and not enough staff. Some areas were under redevelopment but again no signs of work just weeds
D. C.

A little hidden gem.
Great for a walk about.
Would be 5 stars if there were more toilets.

An excellent garden which is always worth visiting. The arboretum has had a lot of work done recently and is beginning to recover. See the Friends of the garden on the internet for details of the twice yearly plant sales.

Lovely garden, a peaceful place, with a fenced-in wilder part at the top where you can let a dog of the lead. Just go through the gate. And close it again behind you.

(Translated) Cruickshank Botanical Garden is located in Old Aberdeen exactly on the campus of King's College of the University of Aberdeen and is under a partnership between the University and the Cruickshank Charitable Trust. The garden exists to promote the beauty, diversity and importance of plants and an understanding of their role in the natural world. This beautiful and peaceful 11-acre garden is open free to visitors. It has shrub borders, a rock and water garden, a sunken garden, a rose garden, a herbaceous border, and an arboretum, and houses an important national collection of over 2,500 labeled plants. Do not forget that the building beyond the entrance gate was a school and many people who are now part of history have attended this school.
