Fantastic array of heritage and antiques. Very real laid out with friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff. It really is recommended you visit here when in the area, extremely interesting and a fascinating look back through time.

An old theatre-cum-Museum. Fabulous displays, good collections, cute shop, and a lovely looking cafe (that we didn’t manage to try).
N. Y.
Lovely little museum with all sorts of bits to look at! A real mismash of stuff that is in a gorgeous setting of an old theatre, lovely visit 😊

Really interesting self guided museum. A real taste of life in rural Wales. Lots of interesting displays, exhibits and artifacts. Cafe, clean toilets, wheelchair lift. Free entry. Well worth popping in for an hour if you're in Aberystwyth for the day. Located in an old theater in the middle of town.

I have been to the museum on many occasions and I have always enjoyed my visit. Today I and my family had lunch in the newly opened coffee house. The service was fantastic the food delicious, Vegan breakfast, breadcrumb fish cakes with large pieces of fish, Welsh rarebit, iced coffee flavoured with caramel and fabulous strawberry thick shake. Can’t wait to return

An Aberystwyth must see location. Free entrance. It is theatrical splendour.

First class local museum set across three floors in an old theatre and cinema. Split into logical sections, you can experience traditional Welsh farming and fabrics as well as some unique items in the toys and TV displays. There are displays of old money, a nod to Aberystwyth hosting a former royal mint in the castle. Welsh fabric samples, blankets of which can be purchased at the well stocked gift store and a small reproduction cinema where you can learn about the buildings former role and ownership. After your trip around the museum, you may well be in need of a cuppa. The museum also hosts a well stocked cafe that serves a variety of hot and cold drinks, cakes and snacks.
The museum is free to enter and the staff are incredibly welcoming, polite and always offer activities, and sometimes prizes, for the kids.
We enjoy our visit every time, especially since there are a few new items to surprise us each time we visit. Highly recommended for your next trip to Aber.

We have passed this museum on many visits and dismissed it. Just how wrong were we! From the outside it looks like the museum is in the back room of a shop/tourist information centre. But once you go through the shop you enter an old Victorian [I think] music hall theatre. What a fabulous idea to breathe new life into this old and very beautiful building and what a novel use for a theatre. The exhibits cover many different time periods and we loved them all. Well worth a visit, this is a fabulous place that deserves to be seen. And even better it is free!

Love the fact that the old theatre which went on to be a cinema as been kept in use for the museum plus public performances. Lovely building. Very friendly staff. Great food in the cafe and interesting exhibits.
S.
Free museum with really interesting exhibits what's not to like, didn't try the cafe but it looked good.

It's an old theater and film museum. Small but with amazing display. Some very well looked after costumes and display items. And it's free admission. Worth of visiting.

Wonderful place and great staff .A must to visit
K. D.
The museum was absolutely fabulous and the staff are amazing. Avoid the Caffe as the food isn't up to scratch.

The museum aims to reflect the rich history and archaeology of the county. There are notable collections of Welsh furniture, costume and many objects associated with the county's farming and agricultural heritage. There is a fine collection of taxidermy by the Hutchings family (1870s–1942) and many paintings by Alfred Worthington (1835–1925). The Museum organises temporary exhibitions on local history and art, and has displays at Lampter Library,; the Kite Centre in Tregaron and the Harbourmaster's office in New Quay. It also owns a cottage at Llanon which is open during most August afternoons.

Marvellous museum in an old cinema/theatre. Beautifully presented and well worth a visit if you're in Aberystwyth.
P. S.
A must if you are in town, even for a few hours. This museum is a jewel of knowledge for every curious mind. You can easily invest 1 hour and you will hardly see all the exhibits. It is totally recommendable 🤗

Free!! This was a very good and nice facility. Spent around and hour or so. Plenty to see and read about. Certainly showcased the area

Couldn't believe what was in here, like a tardis, over. 3 floors, there was a lift and toilets, original coliseum inside with so much to look at and lots of children's activities, good gift shop too and near to the promenade, highly recommended free to go in
R. O.

Great little museum. A must visit if you're in Aberystwyth.

This is a hidden gem. On the main street to the promenade but not well signposted. I stumbled across this place when it was raining and went in because it's free. I was pleasantly surprised. Three whole floors of museum exhibits of all things Welsh. From the geological formation of Wales to the modern day. Great displays of neolithic, bronze age and Victorian life. A fascinating insight with plenty to see. Don't plan on a quick visit because if you take your time, there's loads to see. Set in a small but beautiful example of a Victorian theatre, complete with stage. Great little cafe with adequate seating, free toilet and helpful staff. Well worth more than one visit.
S. R.

An interesting and unusual find. It's a converted theatre, on several levels, has seating available within the museum area so you can relax and enjoy the surroundings.... but it also has a little cafe too!
A. O.
Interesting museum highlighting local history.
Went with children and they had fun.
Best of all is free!
Went there on a rainy day when had nothing else to do. Good fun to spend an hour or so.
They also have a coffee shop and information for tourists.
R. B.
Well worth a visit and it's free! Lovely old restored theatre. Lots of museum exhibits and plenty of interesting things for children to play with. The cafe is also very pleasant. Try the Guinness cake.
S. L.
The museum is really interesting. I go every year, not much changes but I like that, it's packed with things and information from all eras. There's a cafe and toilets and gift shop too. If you like museum's I totally recommend this little place.
D. P.
Jam packed with all sorts of interesting items from the past. And all set in an amazing theatre of old, that you get to wander round as you view the exhibits. There's a gift shop and a café, and toilets in the adjoining building. Well worth a visit.
D. B.
An excellent local museum! It's being in a former theatre is visually stunning, and a historic theme in its own right. The museum also has a strong art collection and a bright and cheerful cafe with local food.
R. H.
Well worth a visit for the conversion of the Edwardian theatre alone. But the contents are great too. Displayed by theme rather than era, they provide a good introduction to the social history of the area. Temporary exhibitions too.
A. E.
A beautiful step back in time... This museum is absolutely beautiful. It was an amazing feelig sttepping into the old theatre and being surrounded by history.. We learnt so much here and had an lovely time. You should certainly take some time and enjoy your walk around here.
K. K.
A multi dimension venue. They host a wide variety events in their quarky middle room. Opened a new beautiful exhibition room, filled with light and you can see the sea out if it's windows. The cafe is superb. The guineas cake was a bomb. The gift shop is brilliant. The reception doubles up as the information center, helping leopard navigate public transport to all of the beautiful spots by the sea, in the mountains and old castles.
d. e.
This museum set in what was originally a theater and then a cinema ( I remember film watching here) is 'chock' full of historic items and situations set up like the old vets practice and a welsh cottage set up as was, olden day artifacts and lots of things people of a certain age will distantly either using themselves or seeing older members of family using and old news items about transport of the time very interesting. Entertainment machines such as early radios, televisions, and record players..Watches and fashion covered and shown tastefully. all this in the center of town with plenty of places to eat and relax around. oh and of course shop if you have to.. go and see..
M. S.
