Reviews of Cainhoe Castle
A. T.
Cainhoe Castle was a motte and triple bailey castle.Built sometime after the Norman Invasion(1066) By 1374 the castle was in ruins.
Great views from the top of the earthwork towards lake.
R. G.
Good earthwork. Bit isolated out in the field near the major road but good views from climb up the largest and highest bump.
S. W.
A fun place to explore with a nice view from the top. No established footpaths but the tall grass was easy enough to navigate. Taking a star off because there was not really much to see and there was some highway noise.
P. D.
Great example of a mott and Bailey castle. Only the earthworks and moat remain, no walls, and no water. However it is still impressive and gives a very good picture of what it must have looked like. You just need a bit of imagination! My son thought it was awesome when I explained how it was used for defence against attackers.
