Reviews of Belfast Castle

very beautiful castle that you must visit. The castle also has a small garden, can you find all nine cats? The surrounding park is also worth seeing. If you have enough time then hike up to Cave Hill, there you will find an overwhelming view of belfast. Enjoy!
a. t.
Beautiful castle and garden. You can get amazing views of city and doc. Plenty of parking. Adventure sports garden near by for kids. You can climb cavehill trails and enjoy amazing views of Belfast city, take great pictures.
D. D.
Went for a walk around Cave Hill. It was a beautiful day and we thoroughly enjoyed the walk. A great way to get some exercise and see Belfast in all her glory. What a magnificent city she is.
M. L.
Anytime I visit Belfast I love just visiting the grounds of this castle. Really stunning views and you can see the whole of Belfast 😍 there is chairs all around to eat and chill out. Perfect spot.
D. C.
The Castle was closed but Cave Hill and all it's little trails are excellent. Beautiful views over Belfast day and night. Delighted to find such a gem so close to the city. Highly recommend a visit.
P. S.
Very nice and beautiful cat castle.
From road, you need to hike steep hill to reach here if coming by bus, but that distance is the FUN part and we enjoyed it a lot.
Reach castle, take beautiful pictures, enjoy some snacks.
F.
It is a must see place in Belfast. İt takes 30, minutes to go from the centre by bus and the scenery of the castle is magnificent. You can go inside the castle and see and feel the history.
T. D.
Beautiful walk. Can be a little challenging as there are fairly steep parts to the walk as you leave the car park at the castle. Advise wearing good footwear. Recommend boots, not really suitable for training shoes.
There is a little coffee van within the grounds of the castle. So a good way to finish off the walk.
P. N.
Place like from a fairytale, you can enter the gardens for free and walk around. It's also not far from the main road and you can take any bus from the centre to get there. From the castle it is also nice to hike up the hill and see the view of the city and the caves.
D. L.
Wasn't opened when we were there. But I visited the grounds and they were nice even with the rain falling. Great view of Belfast. They have a cat garden.
A. M.
Fantastic place to visit. Good walking trails and great views, the Castle itself is very impressive.
J. H.
Really nice view of Belfast from this place. Also the castle is pretty and the garden is cute. You should find small cat’s statue hidden inside of the garden 🪴
F. I.
Set in beautiful grounds absolutely stunning, you can aleays play the game of hunt the cats, these can be models or plants that are made to look like cats
S. T.
The grounds in Belfast Castle are stunning. I unfortunately didn't go into the castle as it was locked but it's a walk around the grounds. I would highly recommend a visit.
R. K.
Beautiful well kept Cat garden. Would be ideal if there's signs for kid's adventure area or other near by destinations. No dogs allowed sign kinda ruins the Cat story plaque (as seen in picture) would prefer if No dogs sign was out in front of archway. But nevertheless, still a nice place to walk around.
R. G.
Beautiful Castle and its stunning grounds. And it's well kept which is good to see. And such a lovely walk around Cavehill trail then we did the Estate trail and wow just taking in the views and scenery. The child just thought it was great and on evenings like tonight it was class. We even took a lil walk to the play park which is a bonus at the end for kids. Definitely recommend here
K. R.
Beautiful architecture. View above Belfast fantastic
O. G. B.
Beautiful, definitely I'll come back , love it 😊
S. M.
Good Short Hiking places with numerous walking trails
M. D.
Beautiful place to visit , Gardens are lovely to walk round and there's a fountain in the middle , the castle has a close relationship with cats and there is cats made of tile in the gardens for everyone to see
T. D.
Beautiful visit with family! Will definitely be back.
M. E.
Wonderful views...
Unfortunately access to the top is unavailable...
Still a very interesting and informative, with amazing artifacts found from the surrounding lands as well as donations..
Beautifully well maintained gardens surround this magnificent castle..
A. K.
Beautiful castle situated outside the city. But it is lovely and well maintained.
B. B.
For those who like to visit castle this is a small and charming castle, but unfortunately it was not open for visitation.
s. c.
Lovely place to visit, especially on a good sunny day, beautiful grounds and fantastic views along with some nice walkways!!
S. A.
The cat castle ! Wonderful site.
My cats will be more than happy if they have the same 😅👌
N. M.
Lovely garden try to find all the cats. There is free parking and access to cavehill with lots of paths through the woods above. The kids park is currently closed for a refurb. Coffee shop does nice coffees and you can get a pint from the fully licenced bar. Great views across the city into Belfast lough. Food also available in the cafe.
E. R.
The castle is only open for events but the gardens are worth a look particularly if you like a cat theme, and there are sweeping views over Belfast from the terrace.
V. S.
Such fantastic views, and walked up to Napoleons Nose (the name of the mountain range) and was rewarded with 360 degree views of the city and surround landscape, both are great spots for photos.
M. S.
Beautiful place. Inside a park so you can walk around and take good pictures with the castle, that is very unique. Looks like it came out of a fairytale book.
S. E.
Very good views with a well kept garden, if you’re expecting to see something interesting inside of the castle 🏰 this isn’t the place since it was converted to a conference/ event centre.
Although it got 3 levels of trails that allows to have some fun and enjoying the views.
J. I.
Lovely castle to explore with the kids, Fabulous grounds and gardens. The adventure playground was closed which was a shame - I should have googled it before going, but still lots to explore!
J. C.
If you're wanting to see a castle in Belfast, this is the place for you. The exterior and the gardens are exceptionally well kept. Entry to the castle is free, bit there's not much to see inside as it's been mostly renovated to deal with functions. There's some public toilets inside which are pretty useful.
S. H.
Belfast castle is a nice, free to visit castle in the outskirts of Belfast city- has a visitor centre, a garden etc. However on some days castle might be booked for private events during which visitors are not allowed.
There are nice walking trails, hills and caves nearby.
H. A. E. A.
A medium size castle in Belfast. The building itself is historical however there are not much historical pieces inside. The walls, decorations and stairs are beautiful. There is a hall where social and dancing events can be done, even wedding parties too. There is a restaurant with very nice staff offers delicious plates. The view to the Cat Garden is very beautiful. With suitable weather it is a good place to spend with friends or family and kids.
A. O.
Beautiful gardens overlooking Belfast Lough. A great place to amuse the children, hunting for the nine cats hidden in the garden
A. M.
The location of Belfast Castle is very scenic and you can see the entire city from the edge. It is a beautiful and serene place to visit and you will get peace of mind just by walking around in the woods.
C. M. T. T. R.
Belfast castle is charming. If you are driving you need to realize that there's not many parking spaces. Come early or take a bus or taxi instead.
The grounds are lovely but a lot of the interior of the castle has been designed to accommodate events and if you want more information about the history of the home you need to go downstairs to learn about the background.
If you get hungry I highly recommend tea and scones in the cellar restaurant. They are fabulous. I love Cave Hill. Get out and make the trek to the peak and you'll have a view of the whole city. Fabulous place. I lived near here and I have lots of great memories. It is beautiful.
M. R.
Belfast Castle and grounds are well worth a visit. The castle itself is not opened all the time ( depends on functions), however this didn't bother us. There is history within the love cafe/restaurant and the staff are very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our walk around the garden and through the grounds. The bonus is the beautiful views over Belfast Lough
K.
Beautiful place! 120 meters above sea level, offers a wonderful view of the whole Belfast!
M. M.
Castle is kinda interesting. Grounds are vast. Not much information on the place. No guided tour.
G. R.
Beautifully restored castle with free entry to the grounds and some limited space inside. Well worth the trip to spot the kitty cats around the grounds and take in the breathtaking views of Belfast and surrounding areas.
A. G.
I recommend taking a bus from city centre and walking for 15 minutes to get to the castle. The garden is stunning and the views are worth the journey. however, the interiors are very ordinary.
K. T.
Lovely spot, quiet, beautiful view over the city. Castle is well kept mostly. The area has a big tourist draw, along with the Cavehill walks that start near the castle grounds. The castle gardens are a nice place to chill, with a nifty lil curiosity, the castle cat. Castle has a restaurant with some pretty good dishes on offer, worth a visit!
J.
The castle and garden absolutely gorgeous. Unlike most castles/ manors, you are able to wonder around the property freely with open access to most of the venue's rooms. This a great place for anybody looking for nice quiet getaway from the city and is free of charge!
K. A.
Absolutely beautiful!
Went for a long walk up cave hill, spectacular views of Belfast.
S. C.
An old castle now turns into a government building. Only accessible by car/taxi/uber, but not a public transport. Every room has now got a new function as either conference room, dining room or party room for special occasions. I love it as I can travel in and out almost every area of the castle. The toilets are marvelous, so please have a try.
M. T.
Amazing view over the city and coast. The castle itself was finished in 1870 on the site of an older castle. Mostly used for weddings and business meetings now. You can go into the castle but not all rooms are accessible. Nice restaurant, coffee shop on lower ground floor. Gardens are beautiful and worthwhile. No cost for either.
a. k.
Beautiful castle. Splendid view. Good amount of parking space. Lovely garden. Excellent place for taking photos. Only thing is there is nothing to see inside castle. Mostly it is used for functions, wedding.
G. C.
The castle gardens are lovely. In the summer there's a lovely array of flowers, great views over the lough and the opportunity to have an alcohol beverage outdoors if desired. Also enjoyed seeing the gardens lit up for Christmas.
L. C.
I had a lovely little walk around the gardens with my family. The gardens are very well maintained and there are great views of Belfast Lough and the Cavehill.
J. N.
A nice castle, free to visit, having long opening hours and a nice cafe /restaurant in the basement, with a lovely garden as well, however that's it really. Nice views, a good hiking trail around, but the castle itself is now, in my impression and understanding is mainly for hosting events and catering. It is nice but originally was hoping for some history when planned our visit there.
M. B.
Beautiful place. As told by our guide the owner of the castle had a fascination for cats and the had a pet cat "Audrey Beggs". when the pet cat died the 🏰 Castle lady got her remains burried in the castle garden and in her memory the lady of the castle had got cats made in various forms in the garden (on the garden bench, floor tiles, in the shrubs).
K. C.
Beautiful castle! Very well preserved and extremely friendly staff. You can walk around with no issues and enjoy everything at your pace. No entrance fee.
T. N. I. E.
A beautiful and magnificent place. Have been here many times and will continue to come back and visit.
The castle gardens are amazing, with great views over Belfast and a wonderful tranquil atmosphere. The castle itself is really nice, both outside and in. Definitely come here if you live in or are visiting Belfast.
A. O.
Beautiful castle and garden!
S. W.
The castle is very nice and you can basically walk around the rooms without any restrictions. But even nicer is the castle cave trail (the green one, you'll know what i mean.)
H. W.
We attended yesterday for a finger buffet to celebrate my parents' Golden Wedding.
Obviously, the setting is gorgeous and in all fairness, we were very well looked after by the attentive Rafael. The little tartlets were tasty, and as an awkward person who takes sandwiches without butter, it was pleasing to have been given a plate loaded down with my own selection. The chicken goujons and cocktail sausages were pretty much as they are everywhere, and there was a good range of tea bags.
The little black forest gateau slices were very disappointing, however, and the three star rating was primarily given because the raspberries set out as a garnish to the cake were a bit mouldy round the edges, which kind of put us off.
G. L.
Small castle on top of hill. Lovely walk and beautiful view. Good for wedding.
D. M.
Great walk up to Napoleon’s nose
C. T.
Nice place to go for a walk and explore and gather some wild berries
A. R.
Take the number 1 bus, buy a day pass because it will be cheaper to go and come back than buying two separate tickets. Amazing views, local garden, and nice cafe to have a cup of tea in.
A. S.
Well worth a drive up for picnic, walk or just to enjoy the well maintained building and it's history.
M. W.
Brautiful relaxing place. The day we visited there was a wedding & outside was a horse and cart. Kids loved seeing the horses. Beautiful views and idea near cavehil lso plenty of walking if you wish :)
G. C.
Beautiful place. Nice view also. I enjoyed looking for the hidden cats. I could spot some Robins and squirrels around the area.
N. M.
Beautiful caslte and grounds, with a stunning view; inside a park. I think this is more for people who want to walk around the grounds (there's an adventure area for kids as well). The inside is basically full of conference rooms. I was hoping to see some rooms in their historical setting, and was thus a little disappointed. I would definitely go back to do some of the hiking trails though
G. H.
The castle is absolutely beautiful but staff were slow in the restaurant. Its more of a cafe than a restaurant. Nice for a cup of tea after a walk on the hill.
H. S.
The castle itself is closed for some renovation, but you can still relax and spend some good time in the gardens and the estate.
A. K.
Lovely place 😍 very nice playground for kids and amazing view from the mountain ⛰️
R. K.
Well kept grounds. Dogs to be kept on lead so children can enjoy the embankments. Amazing views over Belfast and surrounding areas. The castle itself is a historical building. There are disabled parking bays near the entrance into the castle building. Toilets available and information area where there are information leaflets in other languages that are helpful. If you enjoy walking they have well signposted walks up the Cavehill above the castle grounds. Well worth the visit
S. M.
An amazing castle 🏰 with epic views. To see more photos please visit my Instagram page @scottstravelphotos
T. O. G.
Came up here on a snowy morning to get an overview of the city before departing. Worth the drive over.
D. C.
Nice place overlooking Belfast lough...nice looking building....staff must spend slot of time maintaining around the castle the gardens always look well...also it is at the foot of cave hill which is a nice mountain
E. -. c. t. -.
I walked and I walked, amazed by the views. The pictures I have are too many to choose
G. L.
A lovely place to visit at anytime of the year is Belfast Castle. There are a variety of walks available for everyone. With fantastic views of Belfast and the surrounding areas, it is always so nice to visit.
S. R.
Afternoon Tea was excellent and the staff were very attentive. Four of us for £10 each is hard to beat at any hotel or restaurant. Didnt get any photos inside but lovely outlook over Belfast and her docks.
H. 1.
Amazing castle one of the best attractions in Belfast 👍🏻
P. O.
Lots of beautiful walks, Belfast Castle and great views.
S. W.
Belfast Landmark, scenic views of Belfast with historical significance. It is a wonderful place for a romantic wedding service with the backdrop of the castle. Nice cosy place for lunch or a scone and coffee.
J.
The castle wasn't open but we had a lovely walk in the grounds. Lots of trails for dog walkers, cyclists and hikers. Recommended
p. w.
Inside closed but outside beautiful.
M. A.
Really lovely and such a beautiful place! Ideal for everyone who wants to enjoy the magnificent view. Too bad our tour only let us stay 10 minutes and we didn't have the time to visit the castle from the inside.
L. R.
Mostly a wedding hall or conference center now. Small museum in basement. Great view of Belfast harbor from here.
Z. S.
The surrounding area is really pretty. We would have loved to explore more of the inside of the castle.
l. k.
Great place of beauty, nature & tranquility. Pity council won't reopen access through gates at the castle during the week as this leads to congestion and people having to go within 2m of each other on limited paths. Coffee shop now opened in Castle grounds
J. D.
Lovely traditional Irish meal followed by a walk/climb up to the top of Cave Hill. Beautiful views across Belfast City.
M. M.
Must see place in Belfast! Beautiful surroundings with forest and hill gives magical atmosphere. There is a cafe/bar/restaurant downstairs strongly recommend. Can't beat pint seating outside with a lovely view of Belfast bay.
H. R.
Beautiful place just for a visit or for weddings. Right next to Cave Hill, a great wee hike.
Also adding I love it so much, I'm getting married there in August!
M. M.
Nice spot for an hour or so walk.
G. D.
A wonderful place for the nature lovers to hike for the cave hills and roam arot the gardens around Belfast castle.
J.
Lovely place for a walk. Also the starting point for Cave Hill walk.
L. C.
The place near cave hill which is an interesting trek.. The view from top of cave hill is breathtaking.. can go for a trek any weekend and come back by noon..
H. C.
A good spot that i just recently discovered. It's better to visit it on a sunny day. And during a sunset
É. A. K. G.
-There is a great restaurant at the bottom of the building.
-It is free.
-Also there are a lot of cat statues and pictures in the garden. You can make a great catcounting game there.
-If you are there do not miss the trails leading up to the cliffs. Also do not make a short cut, do not get off the trails. It does not worth it.
T. J.
Cool, no entry to the castle at the moment I think.very nice place to spend the evening with family and children
M. G.
Lovely place, beautiful view from the garden, easy parking, lot's of hiking/walking trails. The castle itself is a bit smaller thank so expected based on the photos, but I wasn't disappointed at all. Will go again.
R. M.
Great views over looking Belfast, sits on the side of one of the surrounding hills, the cafe is nice too.
L. G.
Nice view (if the weather allow it) on Belfast.
Kids will love to find the 9 cats that are hidden in the garden.
Don't hesitate to enter in the castle, if there's no meeting, you can visit it.
A. L.
Beautiful castle
J. S.
What a hidden gem 400 feet above sea level and snuggled into the side of the cavehill this place is superb the food in the cellar restaurant is delicious i have been here a few times and never been disappointed reasonably priced and lovely staff
L. A.
We walked up from the bus station (after about 1/2 hour ride frm Belfast center). Very impressive building!
But even though we did not have time to go inside, because we wanted to walk up Cave Hill, just the few minutes we spent looking at the garden we did not regret. Cat lovers, in particular, will like that, because there are cats everywhere; not real ones, but as marble and bronze statues, as mosaics and even a bush cut in the shape of a cat! And there is a plaque that tells you the story behind that.
I. B.
Beautiful castle building on a hill, panoramic views of city, garden with cat theme
P. P.
Had a lovely visit here. Great food and ambiance. Stunning views from the Garden too
R. A.
Nice castle for a wedding no so interesting for visiting tho. Staff really kind and very well maintained. Surrenders very pretty
A. W.
We loved walking the gardens of this castle! There's a little cafe in the basement of the castle and places to sit outside overlooking Belfast. Kid friendly but not wheelchair accessible. You can't go inside and tour the castle, but there is a visitor's desk with pamphlets and stuff.
r. c.
Nice architecture and a well maintained garden, a calm and quite place for family.
A. S.
A nice castle, but you can't really see much of it without paying (I'm assuming because areas were blocked off).
Still a nice walk around Cave Hill and the garden though.
N. P.
Great view. Unfortunately restaurant wasn't open on Monday and Tuesday
D. D.
Nice view of the city. Decent hike. Lovely spot.
M. K.
Nice place to go for a walk, there is car park on site at both entrances, free entry to all rooms if there is no event, a wee coffee shop is located at the basement. To get to garden take the lift down if you can't take stairs. The garden is beautyfull.
C. C.
I enjoyed my stay. Thank you for including the cats in gardens!!
b. b.
It's not the oldest castle we've ever seen but it a with a visit. The View From the castle is amazing
M. J. B. R.
Beautiful place to go on weekends to relax and take pictures .. beautiful gardens and statues
W. F.
Beutiful but closed for a wedding.
M. R.
A gorgeous castle and loved the cat themed garden. Try tea and scones in the tearoom, that was great.
J. M.
Castle closed due to COVID-19,
but walks around the Cave hill Country Park are still freely available & appreciated by all.
C. k.
Lovely and peaceful garden. Views over Belfast were nice. Didn't go inside the castle so cannot comment on that but the exterior was exquisite 👌
B. N.
There are wonderful grounds and gardens and plenty of paths and places to walk and views to enjoy! There is also a restaurant and tea/coffee is served down in the basement.
P. G.
Regular walk over cavehill - great views of the coast at the top and not difficult though steep in places - can be walked in an hour - popular with dog walkers . Takes about an hour.
I. A. J.
Worth it to take the bus and climb up to the castle. When the weather is nice, the views are amazing. We had a coffee (not amazing, but drinkable) on the terrace.
C. “.
Lovely place to go for a walk or take the dog. The gardens are lovely and you can walk up to cave Hill from here. There's also a kids adventure play park which I think you have to pay to use though.
J. C.
Good place for whole family to go . Very good views.
P. N.
Love the beautiful view from here.. but nothing much to explore in the castle, its a restaurant.
V. i. O.
Medium sized quite castle, it has a beautiful garden that also has a beautiful view to the city
A. J. G. M.
Beautiful castle where you can enjoy with marvelous views city. Even you can visit the gardens and the building inside
m. c.
Might have rated better if the castle or restaurant was open. The castle looks pretty interesting (wedding in operation) and loved the Cat garden. The cafe is shut but there is a booth to sell you pricey coffee and donuts. The portaloos in the courtyard are as bad as festival portaloos - best avoided, but there are loos by the children's playground. Poor signage around the park made it hard to find things, but the adventure playground (next to the carpark if you want a direct route) was excellent.
A.
those cats in the garden were super cute! love it, 5/5
L. M.
Didn't go inside the castle but went on a walk in the park, the walk up there was good, really amazing view when you go up further.
J. F.
Very pretty scenery and "castle", excellent forest walks.
l. b.
Busy because of locldown, mucky becausebof all the wet weather recently but definitely want to take a walk up in the summer or do one of the torchlight walks to see the lights over Belfast
K. K.
Beautiful area. Good for one day outing with friends and family. Big hall for functions, meetings and marriages.
P. L. C.
The place is really beautiful. Too bad it's not always open to the public.
W. M.
Such a relaxing day would recommend this for anyone who has friends or family visiting xx
M. Z.
Modern castle with nice garden, nice walk around.
E. S.
Very beautiful place that inspire peace,
S. A.
I love it, it's part of Belfast history
K. G.
Enjoy the coffee. Beautiful place with outstanding view.
P. C.
Lovely view of city and beautiful gardens
J. M.
Parked at the castle and took the Cavehill walk which was amazing
K. S.
Excellent sunken garden and beautiful castle.
p. d.
Great views over the lough. Unfortunately the castle was closed.
M. Y.
Went here for a wedding. Absolutely spectacular views of Belfast and it's harbour. The building itself was lovely and the grounds were excellent
R. C.
Absolutely must see, can't wait to go back and tour inside of castle
R. S.
Great castle with lovely shrubs and trees in the grounds. Great place if you want that special meal. Does weddings etc.
From the castle the walks are very scenic and you can see right across Belfast and the surrounding area. Great views of the harbour where you can see the ships and ferries coming and going. The walk up to Napoleon's nose is a must though it gets steep in a few places. The castle grounds walk is also very rewarding. Picnic tablets around the castle. There is around 6 car parks but it does be busy. Great place for a day out.
K. 8.
Lovely building, gardens and surroundings. Worth a trip up the hill. Take the dog and go for a walk round about
R. M.
Not really a castle. A stately home built in the early 30s. Nice venue for a reception or an event.
A. H.
Venues are class of Belfast and beyond. Plenty of activities for the kids ie trails, courtyard, play park etc.
M. Y. L.
A castle with a beautiful garden. Nothing much to see inside the castle though.
R. C.
Went up cave hill for a walk. Misty, blowy at the top, heck of a climb but loved it, lovely grounds to walk around.
J.
Done cave hill walk very nice .
S. -. J. M.
Stunning views of Belfast, Co. Down, Newtownabbey and on a clear day, Scotland. There's a really good kids adventure playground within the castle grounds. The playground has picnic benches. There can be lots of wasps in the late summertime. I would thoroughly recommend it.
J. D.
Beautiful Castle and nice view point, hiking trails right behind the castle
T.
Nice place to walk around, cat garden is a nice touch.
J. N.
Lovely place to visit on a nice day, try find all the "cats" in the gardens
A. R.
Came here to see the castle and unexpectedly ended up hiking up the giant hill. Was super fun but think more signs to guide the hiking paths are needed!!
F. M.
I really liked this castle and the stroll in the park around. There's also a little garden, pretty beautiful, focused on cats.
r. j.
A beautiful place to visit. The garden is really pretty and the best part is the view from the castle. You could get some real good and exceptional pictures. The castle building is also very regal and amazing.
T. O. B.
Very nice place to visit and dine, Great views over Belfast Lough. Set in large gardens with great walk to the cavehill.
F. A.
Quant traditional setting in the Tavern ( dungeon ) at Belfast Castle, with excellent seafood. Unfortunately the restaurant is closed but mid July for refurb, and so plastic cutlery only available !
X. S.
Be early and you will enjoy a very relaxing afternoon in Belfast castle
N. A.
Not a whole lot to learn about here if you're exploring the city but you do get to read about key names involved with the history of the city. I'm sure as a wedding venue it would be lovely.
H. M.
Beautiful castle! really well preserved with very friendly staff. You can walk around with no issues and enjoy everything at your pace. I spent couple of hours with my friend and enjoyed going back in history. The whole experience was pleasant.
C. B.
Beautiful grounds which have been adapted to better accommodate sitting out in the sun this time of year. The ice cream van is a welcome addition especially for those of us just coming down the mountain on a hot day.
K. F.
Had a great day at the wedding and first first class food
N. T.
Not really easy to get there. But once you made it, you can enjoy the nice garden and stunning views all over Belfast.
M. M.
Very well presented castle and great that you can walk around the gardens admiring the view without charge.
A. M.
Great place to visit... And get married..
M. B.
On a clear day, the views from here are spectacular!
C. L.
Beautiful views.
Good value from the coffee cart
A. A.
Beautiful building with a nice garden, where you can have a drink (and food??). However the access inside was restricted when I visited it. You have good views of the city but nothing impressive. If you're looking for a view point better carry on walking to the top of the hill.
Parking at the door if you're driving and also easy to get there using public transport, you only have to walk around 10min.
S. B.
A beautiful building with an even more beautiful view, I only would have hoped for more activities within it
C. G.
Fabulous gardens and views over city
D. R.
Not many sightseeings here, but one of good attractions in Belfast.
F. C.
Very nice place with a good panoramic view
B. F.
Great views of the city. Plenty of parking nearby.
A. D.
There is nice place for walking and relax
K. V.
Thought we could go in, but there are only offices inside. Outside is gorgeous!!
E. M.
We had a lovely lunch with the family although our toddler grandson with an egg allergy could not be catered for. Otherwise service was good. Great views and walks outside. We all enjoyed looking for the cats in the garden!
J. E.
Beautiful grounds, but small - can you find the 9 cats (statues or other related artwork)? Beautiful building from the outside, and at least free to walk around Had a private reception going on, so could not see any of the first floor. Rest of castle pretty well closed off, so couldn't see rooms, etc. There is a nice playground very close with parking if the kids need to burn off more energy than running around the gardens.
g. f.
Lovely gardens to look around
E. M.
It’s the best destination at bus city tour Belfast
S. A.
Lovely walk and beautiful view
V. H.
Great place, nice garden and castle trail but I expected more.
E. T.
Glorious spot for a wedding reception on a bright sunny day. Everything was extremely well organised with clear lines of communication between castle host, the catering company and the newlyweds. Great day had by all.
R. H.
The grounds surrounding Belfast Castle are very extensive. There is access to Cavehill/ Napoleon's Nose from the castle carpark. The gardens are closed at the minure but the grounds are open. Child friendly. Plenty of open space. Good parking facilities. Perfect for walkers
H. S. (.
Enjoyed a cup of coffee in beatiful building and over looking Belfast. SHMO

Fantastic views. Lovely food.
N. H.
Castle itself is fine. Great views over the city and some nice walks up Cave Hill. The actual park often feels neglected. Poor parking provision so be prepared for people parking on the footpath and therefore walking on the road en route to the Castle. Not great if you have a pram or any disability. The facilities inside are ok, the venue is decent but the coffee shop is often too busy with staff unable to cope.
J. B.
My Sons for and I spent the day in Belfast castle grounds Today we even had a packed lunch which we enjoyed on the tables Provided by the castle With a fantastic view over Belfast lough. A world class view and a joy to spend a beautiful Friday
J. H.
The area looks nice but the waymark signs are hard to follow. We went the wrong way so cut short our walk. The gardens around the castle are well maintained despite the fact that the castle is closed.
T. B.
Good vantage point. Not much to see inside - just a wedding/conference venue. Nice gardens though. Short but interesting wee route through castle with historical info.
G. S.
Relaxing area away from traffic and public. Try and find all the cats. 🐱
M. D.
What can I say, stunning! The landscape is well maintained. The children had fun trying to find the decorative cats in the gardens. We only stayed in the gardens. Unable to comment on the inside
But down a little lane is a beautiful play park for kids. You pay to get it, so obviously it's well looked after.
G. W.
Very nice gardens, didn't get to see inside because of a wedding
S. S.
A day worth spend. Belfast castle and cave hill jungle trail.
c.
the outside is nice but the inside kind of disappointed me. I expected a castle, not a reception hall. lacks in historical background explainations
M. B.
Stunning 100% a must if your in the area !!
A. M.
View is impressive, the small gardens are worth a quick look. The cafe is always very poor, so much more could be made of it. OK for a coffee when walking up cave hill but not somewhere to go for food.
G. W.
Great views and children's adventure play park free.
I. C.
The grounds are beautiful and the view from the castle across Belfast are stunning.
There is also a great restaurant which you would find hard to fault the food.
Remember to see if you can spot the cats in the gardens!!
D. C.
This is a great large mansion with a lot of history. Worth a stroll through the gardens. There is a restaurant I hear is great but we didn’t go. Many weddings take place here.
There is also a quite nice and interesting playground worth taking your kids to.
J. M.
Elegant dining in a spectacular castle
A. N.
This place has so much wasted potential. Close the cellar make it a full blown kitchen. Open up the upstairs for restaurant seating and tours. You could be generating mass revenue from the tourism.
C. K.
Mmmm, not what unexpected but a nice walk on the hill. Few hours walking and some good views of Belfast.
r. g.
Beautiful building in a lovely setting looking over the Belfast harbour . Inside there is a small curio shop and a small bar they seem basic food. On the hill you can take a walk to the top of gave hill. If you can manage it the view is amazing but it's not an easy walk if you are not quite fit and healthy.
I. B.
Had the most enjoyable lunch. Food 100% better than few years ago which I am led to believe is due to new caterers. Would have given 5 stars but due to so many in Restaurant, had to wait quite a while for food to arrive - but well worth it.
N. T.
Nice views!
a. c.
This is a beautiful castle that looks out over Belfast. It has a well kept garden that has a cat theme to it and it is convenient to climb cave hill from here. It's a nice place to get a coffee or a pint with friends.
S. N.
A beautiful castle overlooking the Belfast city. Entry and parking is free. Has a wee coffee shop. They also cater to weddings and small functions, check with reception. You can also plant a tree in the memory of a loved one for about 80 pounds. The castle and grounds provide a big area for a family outing. Kids will love it. Great opportunity to take some Instagram pictures 😁
A.
Lovely building and gardens with a wonderful view over Belfast. Was there in the early evening and was amazed by the view. Food is good enough although service can be a bit slow. However the staff are friendly and helpful so it is not too much of a problem unless you ate in a hurry. One point I would like to make is the signage for directions to the castle are not great. We drove past the entrance twice because we could not see the signpost!
C. I.
Beautiful setting, free facilities and a nice base for a walk around Cave Hill.
A. M.
Beautiful in every season, the walk from the castle through the woods to the top of cavehill is enchanting, at the top you can see all of Belfast and right across the lough to Scotland, in winter if it snows its like being above the clouds, bring a toboggan and have fun going back down again
Z. C.
Very scenic location and the walk up to the castle was very nice as well. The garden was amazing and so was the view of the city from it. Only slight negative is that the restaurant in the castle should have more hot meal options. Other than that, a great place to visit! 😊
s. e.
Stunning views over Belfast and beyond.
X. A.
Beautiful building fantastic staircase and small peaceful gardens well worth relaxing in garden after the long climb from cave hill
S. M.
Decent castle. Ive seen better castles. But i have seen worse castles... decent
L. S.
Walked around the grounds and garden, very beautiful. You can go inside the castle and walk around, but if there is a private event many of the rooms will be closed off. Free parking in the lots.
S. W.
Beautiful place and free entry
J. J.
Once forest area with great views of Belfast and lough
J. C.
Not really a castle, more like a big, historic house. You can go inside but it's mainly just a bunch of rooms set up as an event center. Grounds are pretty and there is a decent view of the city. Great place for a wedding.
A.
The view from the place is Absolutely stunning!
B. C.
It was late evening and we simply walked in. Beautiful architecture very well cared for. Poked around the publicly accessible areas and learned the history of the Castle. Staff was knowledgeable and helpful. A serendipitous highlight of our stay in Belfast.
R. P.
Excellent castle however it is a bit out of town
D. M.
Lovely walk up to cave hill
S. M.
Amazing. Went up for the day with the family and it was amazing. It's right on the top of the Black Mountain/Cavehill Mountain and overlooks the entire Belfast City itself and is a beautiful view. They even serve food and offer a mini museum section and a lovely garden. They even have three trails that bring you even higher on the mountain and is good for exercise.
S. H.
Beautiful castle. Stunning views of Belfast.
C. W.
Just parked here to go up Cave Hill, beautiful grounds, well maintained and the views are simply fantastic. It's been years since I've been around the castle itself, but the last time I did was truly amazing. If it's still possible to get in around the castle, even on a special pass, I would strongly recommend it :-)
M. A.
A very beautiful palace but you can visit just few rooms and the cat garden.
I loved the walk in the nature to arrive there.
Near the castle there is an adventure park for kids.
I. S.
Lovely site on a gorgeous winter's day. Castle is very nice with plenty of parking. Self-guided tour is short but worth doing. Hadn't been for nearly 15 years prior to this visit. Would certainly return again!
M. E.
Very nice place with a great view. Totally worth a visit.
A. S.
Walked all the way up cave hill, loved the views. Castle is very nice to look at the architecture is peng
C. C.
Lovely on a sunny day. Children have fun running around or trying to find all of the 'castle cats' in the outside grounds. Views are lovely, and the trails for Cavehill are easily reached in the car park. There is a restaurant and pub here also.
M. F.
Very pretty and scenic place. Beautiful building and gardens on a hillside location with fantastic views over Belfast Lough and surrounding countryside.Staff are very friendly and welcoming.
Food wise, it's not really up to the standard expected from a supposedly high end restaurant and tourist attraction. Could put more effort into the tourist attraction side of things as it's left up to visitors to find their own way around, also the video information screen was not working when I was there.
A busload of Japanese tourists arrived while I was there and I felt disappointed that it wasn't up to the standard they would be expecting.
V. M.
Perfect place with great views
K. D.
Absolutely gorgeous. Great views and beautiful scenery.
K. W.
Courtyard and the castle were very pretty. Much smaller than i expected and not much to see or learn about, but still worth the trip up. The real view comes from hiking up cave hill behind it and seeing the whole town! Didn't stop at the cafe or restaurant so i can't rate those sadly. There's a small bit of history offered and the staff were very friendly and helpful.
J. M.
Tremendous place, beautiful views over the Lough. Great for a walk in and around the castle and used as a base for walking through the woods, making your way up to the '1st cave'
L. F. C.
Stunning views and gardens
I. S.
Lovely walks steep up to the caves but worth the view over Belfast. Kids adventure playground is good but costs to get in. The "castle" is nice to visit plenty to see. While away a Sunday afternoon no problem.
P.
I went for a walk up Cave hill but unfortunately the view wasn't great due to the grey rainy weather. You can see for miles on a clear day. There are a few paths through the woods which will take you to the top. A reasonable level of fitness is required as parts are very steep. You can grab a drink, coffee or lunch in Belfast Castle when you get back down. There are several car parks on the road through the park and public toilets at the castle.
M. Z.
Freely accesible well preserved castle rooms, restaurant in the cellar.
E. L.
Stunning castle and garden! Looks more modern than a lot of the castles in Ireland. The castle is up on a hill and has a beautiful view of Belfast.
You’re able to go inside and see the rooms. You can book the space for meetings as well.
A. T.
Nice place for a visit. Excellent view of the Belfast bay. Cave hill is worth a visit, but be sure to wear appropriate footwear as it can get quite muddy. There is also a restaurant we rather pack our own food.
B. M.
It's a place I take all of my guests that are visiting N. Ireland. A proper castle! Lovely views of Belfast. They make delicious scones at the coffee shop. I haven't been for a wedding but I can only imagine what a fantastic wedding venue it would be.
T. H.
Cool architecture, but it's not what you'd expect as a 'castle.' More of a wedding/events venue. Not much in the way of historical info, museum-type features. There are better alternatives for tourists looking to see a castle in the Belfast area.
G. C.
Great for a walk around. Gardens are beautiful
G. O.
Absailing down Belfast Castle for charity; quite adventurous, impressively safe, much fun had by all.
D. T.
Beautiful location near Belfast zoo, about 20 minutes from the city centre of you are driving. The castle can host weddings, and offers beautiful gardens to walk around, with adequate parking available. The cave hill nature walks also begin and end within the castle, roughly an hour long walk through the forest and up to cave hill. Walking shoes / hiking boots would be recommended as it is dirt paths and quite steep in places.
B. M.
Quite close to where I live so been there a lot. The grounds are a favourite of my 8 year old granddaughter who loves the cat garden. You can walk up the Cavehill from there as well. The castle has some displays on the history and geology of the hill and lovely views over Belfast and the lough. Food available and its a good place for an evening meal. Functions-can be great. I have been to weddings, birthdays and a number of other events. The only issue is with the range of drinks available. They did run out of one of the popular beers one time
M. O.
Lovely views plenty to see and do great for picnics
T. R.
It is good place for family trip. You could have break in the castle cafe and after you will choose trail and the path leads up through the trees, climbing on to a plateau of Cave Hill.Have nice view and wonderful picnic on the peak.
D. M.
Well looked after by diligent staff, splendid internal decor and floral gardens surroundings - once fully opened to the public a must see.
J.
Such a lovely place. A nice castle is there. The natural scenery is awesome. You can see almost the whole belfast from there. The environment is so relaxing. The hill bisedes the castle is a very nice place for tracking. Infact I suggest don't come back without tracking the hill and reaching the hill top. The view from there is just wow. One can not explain that experience by words. But is advisable to go there in sunny day so that you can track in the hill. Moreover sunny day is the best to visit any places in belfast.
N. W.
The Castle is beautiful inside and out. The gardens are beautiful and it's a lovely place to walk your dog or bring the family out for a walk. Cavehill Country Trail is directly behind the castle and it makes for a decent walk, too.
S. B.
Fabulous views, surroundings and delicious food with glass of wine. The gardens around the castle are stunning. Had a wee glass of vino on the terrace before our meal. Highly recommended
V. D.
A very beautiful place. Looks line a great place for a wedding or any other party.
D. S.
Lovely castle and garden with great walking trails around Cave Hill, although very muddy in the winter so bring suitable footwear. Beautiful views over the city. Visitor centre gave the children a map to find all the cats in the garden which was fun. Couldn't find any bins in the carpark, which may be problematic.
L. C.
Beautiful grounds and an atmospheric interior. The bar/restaurant are in the basement area, very simple with good food and service. Perfect stopping place for those who need lunch or a break after walking Cave Hill or for a more formal meal later in the day.
A. B.
Wonderful, amazing place
P. M.
Car park very tight for anything bigger than a car, some of the staff are extremely helpful and friendly... Others are.... Let's say less than helpful and actually quite rude
R. M.
This is actually a restaurant and not a museum. Good place.. Nice people. A great view of city from here. I really like the garden in front of it. Behind the castle there is a good place to do the trucking and nice place to layer the land.
N. T.
Could not find fault, staff very attentive and welcoming. Beautiful historic building in a parkland setting. The meal was well presented and we had no complaints. I enjoyed the day and would recommend the experience.
S. D.
Took our friends from England here for a drink after walking up Cave Hill. Grounds of the castle are lovely and very well maintained. Great outside seating area. Wait time for a drink was a bit too long. Seemed to only be one lady serving and she was rushed off her feet😏
M. L.
Very nice to visit for an afternoon coffee in the garden. Very cheap as you would expect high-end prices in such a castle. The service is not that good, however, the nice castle and view is nevertheless worth it. Very nice garden!
M. J.
Beautiful castle in gorgeous surroundings
C. C.
Really enjoyed all our visits up here. Free into the grounds and around the castle grounds, Kids will love the gardens ( tell them to search for the cats - they are everywhere - seats, stone work & in the shrubs ) . Great views of all of the lough - there is a kids park just past the castle which charges £2.50 in , there are better free parks around for kids ( ie the Valley Leisure Centre ) but if your up at the castle, its fine. It is possibly better for older kids ( less to do for 2-4 year olds ), the climbing frame, etc are challenging. The castle is open 7 days a week - there is a tea shop in the basement. Nice for a tea & chill out for a few minutes. You can have a walk around part of the castle, while it is not well sign posted and you can be unsure where to go..just go for it :-) A popular wedding & event venue.
K. M.
Great location, great views and the cavehill behind is glorious
J. C.
This small Victorian 'castle' is located on a small Hill in Belfast. It offers magnificent views of the city.
It's run buy a hotel, but entrance is free. There is a cafe in the building. The gardens were very well maintained.
b. a.
This is a very beautiful, and scenic place to visit. The views are spectacular, the building itself, along with the gardens, and inside are breathtaking. The best way to see some of the sites, and hear the history surrounding Belfast, is to take the open top bus journey. It's great, well structured, and you can hop on and off, at as many of the venues that are visited. Highly recommend it, for the money your day can be filled, but organised for you.
S. H.
Beautiful! Gardens lovely. Great views. Wedding going on the day we visited so we didnt get to see anything inside. Small public loos. Elevator avail.
I. W.
Beautiful castle, well kept gardens and interesting to visit. Great location for events. Cavehill is well worth a hike up and round, although not an easy climb if you're unfit!
C. C.
Great walk around the gardens and they also do an amazing lunch inside the castle.
C. 1.
Great place when the weather's good. Great souroundings for a walk with fantastic views of Belfast and the Lough. Odd opening hours if you want to eat in the restaurant. Foods not bad. Beers a bit expensive. £5.25 for a pint of Guinness.
D. R. M.
Excellent experience.. though we couldn't speimuch time as restaurant closed earlier than expected. Castle is on hright and has spectacular view of city. This is a great wedding venue with detailed planning. This is surely worth a visit in Belfast trip
N. O.
The Castle was unfortunately closed to visitors but the surrounding gardens were stunning affording great views of the city.
A. N.
Lovely castle and grounds. Great walks around the estate for all abilities. Amazing views and in the tea room one of tbe most magnificent scones I've had in quite a while
J. C.
Afternoon tea was not bad, good for Groupon deal we got for £20. But i wouldn't say it was the nice at sandwiches and some of the sweet stuff wasn't to my taste, had a bit of a strange taste of some chocolate. But service was good and friendly.
M. G. (.
A Beautiful Historic Building in Belfast, Not quite the traditional castle but hey its Irish. One of this location best features is the grounds and country park that it sits in.
This area also contains a playground for kids, is very dog friendly (off leash) and caters for BBQ's in the summer.
If you have time to kill or just want to go explore somewhere nice quickly not far from Belfast then this is a good shout.
a. n.
Oddly Disneyland - but lovely manicured gardens and fantastic views. Warning: bring refreshments - coffee shop shut
J. T.
Nice place, but it's a restaurant
B. D.
Not the most grand of castles, but beautiful gardens and free entrance. It also had a good view of the city below. I arrived early and there were no other visitors.
C. S.
okay so it's really a baronial house now wedding venue but it's a nice place with a great view of the lough and a lovely garden. restaurant midweek was the best place in North belfast to get food but not been for ages. great pint of Guinness. friendly helpful staff. i love the outdoors bit for sitting having a drink on a sunny day. as a dog owner who walks their dog through the grounds daily, it would be nice to have a doggy cafe - ie a bit where you could sit with your dog and get a drink.
R. W.
Beautiful place with a view over the city. Poor beer lets it down.
C. S.
Beautiful views with a quaint little garden. The castle itself is beautiful. The coffee shop inside is just okay. The tables were dirty and the cakes were not very good. The coffee was fine.
D. D.
A very unique place for dinner, good food, and very well priced too. The gardens are nice to walk around. Cat lovers will especially have a good time looking for all the cat figures, shrubs, etc...
J. D.
Nice forest park. Cute wee stately home more than a castle.. the country park out the back is the main attraction, with views of Belfast harbour and Holywood.
U. A. B. M.
Nice scenery and view above.
L. P.
Not really much to see but a beautiful Sunday getaway. You can take your family and have lunch inside the castle while enjoying the view.
K. W.
Great views though best ones reserved for 1st and 2flr event parties. Public only on ground and lower ground. Still worth a visit though. Walks best on sunny dry day where views are spectacular over Belfast bay
K. S.
Just a dream...you never know one day mayby it will be yours😉.so go for it.And travel your mind.
D. C.
lovely castle set in beautiful formal grounds. The Cave Hill Park is also there to explore. Much less formal but a perfect for a ramble up to the Caves or the Napoleon's Nose for spectacular views over Belfast.
P. J.
Cave Hill Country Park is an amazing experience with stunning views from McCart's Fort (worth getting out of puff going uphill) but the castle is a conference centre, with just a garden and cafe which are open to the public. Service in the cafe wasn't great but the food was ok. The cats in the garden are sweet.
S. I.
Belfast castle has a lot of parking available. But you would need to be at the place early in order to get a spot as it is a very popular beauty spot.
T. C.
Beautiful place to visit, has a nice restaurant downstairs and the gardens are very well kept. The place is used for tourism aswell as weddings and other events. Thought it would be bigger though.
D. F.
Great place to take a walk with kids and dogs, castle gardens aren't much but clean and well maintained, the walk around Cavehill is a tough walk if you have young kids or elderly but well worth the walk once you get to the top plenty of energy needed as is all up steep hill.
L. W.
Fab views from up here. Also nice to walk up to top of cave hill from here. Castle not a castle but very nice if everything open. Been a few times when events are on so gets crowded and can't always get in cafe but on right day is great
R. W.
Amazing view and place. Only issue was the renovation of the castle, so I couldn't visit. The tavern serve good food. Definitely worth it.
J. W.
Great view of Belfast from this location. The Castle and the grounds are very scenic. Down below is a reasonable but small restaurant and coffee shop. Well worth visiting and a good starting point if you wish to climb to the top of Cavehill.
H. A.
I think you have to pay to go in but outside is nice and relaxing and goof for photos
U. P. S.
Good place. Nice view of belfast city and ocean. Trekking to cave hill is also very easy from here.
Parking is available nearby and also some chairs are there to sit and enjoy the fantastic view.
R. F.
Nice views of the bay, not much information around the castle on the history of the castle or the area, which was the only let down. The cat garden was great and had great views of the sea.
s. s.
This place was almost completely empty when I went (3pm ish on a Monday). It was very scenic and I could just sit there and take in the beauty. Also has a pretty good view of Belfast.
D. G.
Lovely castle in Belfast. It is on the hill so you need to trek for around half hour. But it is easy trek with lush green area all around. Can go by car as well.
H.
We had the festive 3 course lunch, which we bought through treat ticket. com and the meal was beautiful and the staff were very helpful and friendly, we'll definitely be calling back again with maybe a bit more time to enjoy the castle grounds.
S. B.
We had lunch here today. There was a very limited menu and the sandwich we chose was mediocre- slice of processed cheese and a few scrapings of ham thrown together and a dish of frozen chips full of black eyes. We are locals but all I could think as I looked around the tourists beside us was I hope they try some of our nice eating places before they go home.
M. H.
Great views, good hiking and good food.
T. H.
Beautiful place and stunning scenery
A. S.
Lovely place for walk
L. B.
I loved Belfast castle. It was after our cave hill walk, and what a way to end it. So historic and absolutely beautiful. Good place to come and enjoy the outside air and sun, it's really quiet and lovely.
C.
Beautiful castle & gardens. You get a stunning view of Belfast from here. There is a park close by that the kids love to go to when we visit 😀
A. W.
Nice cellar restaurant. The day we went, several of their staff were out sick, so service was not stellar. They did their best under trying circumstances and the food was excellent. I would definitely eat here again. The grounds are beautiful.
k.
Recently attended a wedding at the Castle, excellent venue. Staff were very attentive and helpful, good meal with a decent bar. Very scenic grounds, great for photos.
L.
Perfect combination: Belfast castle attractions and French village catering. Great stuff there folks, if you're going then you're in for a treat. Enjoy👍👍👍
R. H.
Lovely gardens. If you use bus it's a long walk up very steep hill. Though good car parking an tour buses go to castle
P. W.
Very small visitors centre, mainly a hotel
J. S.
It's a fine looking pastiche with quality finish and details. Fine view over East Belfast. Pleasant woodlands for walking and access to Cave Hill. Pleasant staff.
D. R.
Lovely place steeped in history.
B. M.
Had a lovely late lunch here on wednesday 8th January. My husband had the fried fresh fish with their chunky tartar sauce which was delicious and I had the ham hock. This had to be cooked to order so took 20 to 25 mins but was well worth the wait, the meat just fell away from the bone and was again delicious .
P. M.
Took my 2 grandsons to Castle today, they loved it, especially looking out for the cats. Grounds r stunning.
P. C.
Cafe was closed when we visited. The park was also locked up for winter.
C. M.
Again an iconic place just outside Belfast centre the views are stunning. Nice place for all the family. Beautiful place to relax on a sunny day
J. T.
Very nice place for day off.
L. V. (.
It's alright to wander and look around, however the enjoyment is pretty stale very fast, I'd recommend going around the mountains and hills for a better/higher view overlooking Belfast.
Z. A.
Amazing architecture, with a stunning view of the city and bay. The garden in back is beautiful, and we enjoyed trying to find all of the various cat art hidden throughout!
B. M.
It was such a neat experience. It would have been a little more exciting had I been able to do a little more exploring, but several areas were cordoned off.
It was really busy, so I had to battle the crowd. Still worth it to check out!
P. T.
Beautiful castle, nice views. Free parking.
P. W.
The castle on the outside is gorgeous. On the inside it's pretty plan. It's been converted to a place for weddings and such. Can't beat the views from Belfast from here.
K. O.
Great days walking
N. F.
Beautiful setting, on a sunny day you can combine a lovely walk and get tea & scones after or a lunch with a cheeky pint even. Breathtaking views of Belfast loch.
B. G.
Belfast Castle was a great quick history stop on our tour thru Belfast. It was free to visit, they had a restaurant and parking was free. We only spent about 35-45 mins here and were on our way to our next destination. There are walking trails so if you wanted to make it a longer trip you could.
C. L.
Wedding reception for my daughter's wedding was held in Belfast Castle 1st August 2013. Absolutely fantastic day. Staff and Catering Manager couldn't have been more helpful and the room for both the meal and the evening entertainment easily accommodated the 100 guests and wedding party. Brilliant range of wedding packages available. Food was also excellent with good sized portions (which can't be said for other weddings I've attended elsewhere). Beautiful setting and grounds with excellent views over Belfast City and the Lough.
Highly recommended and will do so to my other 4 daughters!!
S.
Marvellous building with a beautiful view on Belfast city. The garden with little hints of cats is cute too, a nice place to hang out and enjoy the sun if the weather is good.
A. M.
Very nice views to the docks, harland and wolf... Gardens very nice to sit and chill out, private function on so could not access inside of castle
M. H.
Went to the Christmas market today.weather was awful but once inside it looked the part. The stalls had some lovely items for sale and reasonable priced but there were so many people there it was hard to get around even worse with a buggy
N. D.
Had great fun finding the cats. Grounds are beautiful. Wasnt inside so cant review that
y. d.
Beautiful place fantastic grounds 🤩 gr8t day out an lovely staff too 🤩
A. W.
Excellent setting! Christmas lunch was one of the best over the festive season. Beautiful. Service a bit slow as wedding on that day but excellent nevertheless!
D. C.
Nice small historic place
K. M.
Spectacular gardens, this beautifully designed area is a very present surprise. beautiful views of the city and gardens. It would be lovely to attend a function there.. definally recommended to visit.
P. B. M.
Walk my dog around the Cavehhill its a beautiful place
J. C.
What an absolute gem - quirky corridors with displays telling the story of the castles history ! The cat garden was fascinating - wish I had had more time to explore ? I'll be back !
T. T.
Beautiful building, gardens, views and walks. A fabulous Adventure Playground near by that keeps entertained for hours.
B. W.
Nice food from cafe tho expensive. Staff friendly and very helpful.
J. P.
Gardens could have been better tended. Okay it's Winter but gardens looked very shabby and weedy. Even main gates covered in green lichen.
Y. K.
Lovely but skip the food.
The staff are morons that can't pull a pint.
Small portions and overpriced food you'll wait ages for.
Disabled door buttons are rusted and don't work.
And boxer shorts and shirts are left around the place.
D. M. D.
Highly recommend, there are beautiful monutain walks with splendid views, just 20 mins from the city centre. Snacks and full meals are available in the Castle, and there are regular guided walks hosted by the Cavehill Conservation Campaign.
M. G.
Wonderfull setting up near cave hill. Daughter is having her wedding here in May and the views is just stunning on a clear day
c. z.
Nice place for taking day off
E. S.
Only visited the gardens but lovely view from the top and long walks just behind leading to Cave Hill.
Used for weddings and events, there is a restaurant there also.
g. n.
Is it worth a visit probably not , the upside is it's a gateway to the cave hill where there is a riches of history and beauty , if you are a walker then ditch the car on the next turning after castle and walk up to top of cave hill the views from the plateau are amazing
A. S.
Very interesting however more could be done to make it a tourist attraction as it seems to cater more for events and functions. Needs a 50:50 blend 50% tourist attraction and 50% more events than being more for events and functions. Overall enjoyable place and very interesting.
L. Q. (.
Great view and a nice castle to see
G. P.
Great walk and views of belfast and further afield .. only problem is all the dog bags lying around with poo
J. D.
Lovely castle and grounds, cave hill is a decent walk. The castle itself is beautiful and has a shop and restaurant downstairs.
k. i.
Great setting on good day for views of Belfast. Take your camera. Also good area for walks. Nice gardens cat lovers delight. Restaurant good reasonable priced.
J. D.
Really good walking trails there's a little adventure park but it's £3 entry. I would recommend walking the trails on a sunny day
S. B.
One of the nicest places to eat. Amazing food and service and if you go on a sunny day! There is a beautiful Garden to walk around!!
M. H.

Lovely place for walking. But ridiculous unfriendly staff in the restaurant. The drinks and plates with food gets on the table for here you're food. Not nice att all. But the views are very good and nice :). Only the restaurant needs new staff..

We were here after a family funeral. The castle its self was clean and warm. I had ordered vegetable soup and sandwiches, tea or coffee for 40 people. When I went to get my own soup and sandwich it was certainly not what I would call veg soup it was carrot and barley and looked greasy.I did take some and it was wet and warm thats the best I could say about it. A lot of the sandwiches had cheese in them and if you dont like cheese thats a problem.

As it was my daughters wedding was expecting more the master of ceremonies RAFF was excellent could not fault him but the waiting staff which I may add were very young but they were agency staff brought in they never served top table first which meant then master of ceremonies had to step in and help serve.the food was adequate the children's food was over cooked ie chicken nuggets pizza etc but as I say Raff could not be more helpful this is why I rate the castle 3* other than that the views and setting were perfect

What an absolutely beautiful castle ..brought my friend to view it she's from Liverpool and she totally fell in love with the place ..Beautiful grounds with wonderful view of Belfast..inside is just a hub of history ..we also went to the coffee shop and had freshly baked scones with jam and cream they were amazing ..Great spot to visit and free entry

Only gave it 3 as I don't believe we were able to truly see it's beauty properly due to poor weather, apart from that the staff we're really friendly an the meal we had was exceptionally nice would more than likely re-star if went in better weather were you can see the views properly

Great place to start or finish a lovely walk up to Cavehill when weather is permitting.

We had a lovely time at the Castle had afternoon tea which was fantastic. Staff couldn't do enough for us. Very good we plan to do it again soon

We did not do an event here, just visited. It is a neat example of a more modernized small castle, but has really great views of Belfast and the surrounding area.

Such a lovely place, especially loved the walk around the grounds and up to Cave Hill

Nice view of Belfast lough from the castle grounds and a lovely walk in the surrounding area

Beautiful building with typical Lanyon Belfast architecture of the period, unfortunately many of the foreign visitors cannot obey the simple instructions such as 'fire exit' and thus throw the doors open, walk out, without closing the door behind them and then visitors in the gardens walk into the kitchen areas, thinking this is the way in, without actually reading the door signs ???

Grand, you can tell the brits were living in it not to long ago. It looks modern and not like a "castle" one would imagine. Not much going on in the place, its more of a venue than a historic relic.

Great spot, great climb up the hill, nice views, don't spoil it by going in side, you will get poor service quality if you go in cafe/restaurant!!

About the only castle one can visit without entrance fee. Walks are great and coffee shop awaits your return.

Lovely afternoon tea. Service was great and the food was very nice. Only one comment and that was the coffee could have been warmer. Would love to go again sometime.
