Reviews of Aston Hall
K. B.
Horrible rainy day, so a good opportunity to make a visit to Aston Hall in the centre of Birmingham. What a beautiful building and a stunning oasis of bygone times over 400 years. Damaged in the Civil War, host to Charles I and later Queen Victoria. Interesting place and must have been even more imposing when it was surrounded by countryside. How times have changed. Well worth a visit with friendly staff.

Mid week visit to Aston Hall with a friend. Started with coffee and cake in the lovely cafe, then a look round the Hall (National Trust members so we got in half price) which is gorgeous and well signed. We then had lunch at the cafe-nice menu for lunch-and then went off on the 'Around Aston Hall' walk from Birmingham Museums' Walk Birmingham book to learn more of the history of the area. Back to the Hall for a walk on the gardens. Well worth a visit.

Fantastic place. We went on the ghost tour it was brilliant. I won't say much. Don't want to spoil it. Definitely worth going. Plenty of space to park the car and it's free. Me and the wife had a wicked time. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐👻👻👻

First visit in a while. Not too crowded. Always find something new to see. Staff as always very helpful and friendly.

Amazing house. The "characters" brought history alive at this special event during heritage week. Well worth a visit.
s. B.
Lovely place, steeped in history, cafe on site, was there for around an hour and half, that was plenty enough time, to see all of the hall cafe and grounds
P. H.
I spent a most enjoyable couple of hours here. It has a fascinating history and contains some very interesting items to look at.
A. A.
Lovely outing, nice historical touches throughout & detailed information about the history as you go through the hall.. only reservation is that it was abit pricey..(£9 Adult, £3 Children, under 5 free) & alot restoration work has been carried out so the whole place has lost some of its original features but on the whole v interesting ...free parking available on site & lovely cafe with baby changing facilities..
But check before you visit as it's not open all year round!

A brilliant day out stepping back in time and learning about history

Attended for the palava party over half term. Had a great time. Only negative was a lack of gluten free options in the cafe. Nice cup of tea though!

Fantastic building. Really beautiful.. All the little architectural details are great and we were lucky enough to collar a really enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide who told us about parts we asked about.. We went on the free open day and it was mental busy. I don't think they expected the numbers but the staff were brilliant and we had a great visit.. Would be nice to go when it's quieter and soak in the atmosphere of such a beautiful space..
G. S.
A fabulous visit for the Independent Birmingham Festival. What a beautiful location.
Y. M.
Nice place to visit just had a walk round the gardens and a cuppa in the cafe very dog friendly.

What a beautiful place in the heart of Aston, we always used to drive past to get to places but never thought to stop and visit.
Amazing gardens at the back, there is a café on site but never had a chance to visit.
I will plan on visiting again to learn the rich history and spend more time inside also rather than the garden's :-)
S. A.
Hall fine but Christmas event poor. Still putting up a tree as we went around. Good character people around hall. Cafe a real let down. Ran out of milk at 1.20. Did they not cater for an event!! ? Took ages to produce food. Two speeds dead slow and stop. Not enough staff. Small amount of traders at 'fayre'
Disappointingly mediocre!!
G. H. (.
For those who love to have a day trip in gardens and manors, this is a great place to visit. There are plenty of rooms of exhibitions with friendly staff. There's also a student price of 7 pounds, so bring your school ID card. I just wish I could use my museum association pass, but overall, it's a pleasant visit. :D
A.
It's a lovely historic building bang in the middle of Aston. I visited for the Independent Birmingham Festival and so I only saw the grounds on what was a really warm day.
The gardens are really well maintained, lovely landscaping and different little areas about so you could have a picnic or something. There were a few seats about but I'm not sure if these were out out as part of the festival or not.
I travelled by train so I can't comment on parking sorry but it looked like there was some access for vehicles.
Worth checking the opening times before travelling as they vary by season, and also depends on home games at Villa Park which is just over the road.
A nice day out.

Wonderful day out. Fantastic staff and volunteers.

We had a fabulous time today! The price was very reasonable and the experience was first class! Saw small enactment of a witch hunt/judgment which was amusing and the Hall was impressive and immaculate. Food at the cafe was surprising really good and the venue was classy. Who knew that this little gem was sitting in the heart of inner city Brum….. and I’m a Brummie! Would definitely recommend Xxx

Lived in the area as a kid, growing up I have visited Aston Hall apart of school trips and with friends on the weekend, it's very haunting it has that affect on you, probably because it's old , but I've had loads of stories about this place, would never spend a night there haha

Aston Hall, one of Birmingham’s most iconic buildings, is now back open to the public! The house has opened its doors with new displays that explore the intriguing lives of its residents and its vibrant history. There are over 30 rooms to explore and the surrounding parkland, including the elegant Lady Holte’s Garden, beckons visitors to take a stroll....................................
R. J.
Aston Hall is one of my favourite places to visit. A 17th century Jacobean mansion in the middle of Aston. Its an amazing building, and even more amazing that it is still here amongst all the modern development surrounding it.
There are guided tours around the Hall most days, but on certain days its free flow so you can look around it at your leisure, its worth checking to see when these days are depending on what you want from your visit.
There is plenty to see inside and there are some small gardens to look around as well. There is free parking on site, a small gift shop and a cafe to buy tea and cake.
Aston Hall runs plenty of events throughout the year so its worth keeping an eye on their events listing to see if anything would enhance your visit.

Beautiful house and gardens and very pleasant setting in Aston Park. Right next to villa park football stadium...
Nice to visit but expect traffic / public transport to be busy on match days ...
Good value for money.
T. B.
A very historic and beautiful building. Was guided with a very knowledgable volunteer and the tea shop was quaint, cosy and peaceful. Not going to review much on the information, as I think it is worth visiting to learn about the history of Aston. The guided tour however felt a little rushed which is why I am giving Aston Hall 4 stars.
T. S.
A few random images from our visit. An impressive house, with lots of history. Its hard not to compare with National Trust properties. The trust have a tough job keeping the place manitained. The garden needs some tlc. But its worth a visit, open wednesdsys and thursdays in winter, however you can only go in the house on a guided tour, unless its an open day. Annual membership £25 (£42 for joint) is good value if you visit some of their other 7 properties.
A. S.
I visited that place in a rush. I was kinda disappointed because it's absolutely amazing building but only with this side.
When i first saw it from the back side.. I though I was dreaming.. It's a wreck, completly and I hope some day I will back here and that place will look much better.
On the other hand of course there is a fantastic park and space for playing volleyball and so on. Very potential!
S. A.
I visit all the time for my daily walks! Love it. Great for families to come for a picnic, when the weather is good 😁
t. s.
Loved it and also had the best garden inspired afternoon tea
G. Y.
As a born and bred Brummie, feel terrible not giving it 5 stars, but let down a bit by having not one, but three tour guides, with two of them repeating information by their colleagues. The Hall itself is magnificent, with imposing views from its hilltop setting - and well worth a visit. The gardens looked beautiful from inside, but as the weather was awful on the day we visited, decided to head back to the car for some warmth instead.
G. l.
Nice house with almost all of it open to the public which often isn't the case. Not much in the way of gardens but to be expected given its in the city centre
J. C.
Amazing place.
The café was was surprisingly very good. The food was cooked to perfection.
And not to mention very filling.
They went out of their way to make us a special drink too
Service was truly world class. Staff really pleasant and friendly.

Not been inside but the grounds and the building are beautiful

Can't say much about Aston Hall as I never went inside. Went for a food and drink festival which was great.
The grounds were very nice, well kept and quite picturesque.
A.
The hall is spectacular, and the stories behind it were a good listen. The ghost walk we were on though wasn’t as spectacular. Still a good visit though
G. K.
Superb . We did the torchlight ghost tour and loved every minute. Our guide was funny and scary and very informative.
C. A.
This place is one of the most beautiful buildings in Birmingham.
The grounds are well kept for you to walk around and a café and clean toilets. Lots of free parking too
D. B.
Very interesting place to visit. I learnt a lot from just a couple of hours visit.

Independent Birmingham Festival at Aston Hall. Lovely atmosphere, incredible food, live bands and craft fair.
Entry to the hall included in the price.
Very highly recommended.

Really good place to take an adventure round for a day out. Had a really lovely time here with my fiancé and mom.

Beautiful historic building. Really is a gem amongst rubbish. It's located in a busy area, but soon as you get to the park and by the building , it is amazing. Really well kept garden area/ park. Great to take pictures.
G. B.
Lovely house and gardens (unfortunately didn't see much of them due to the rain). Interesting history as well as knowledgeable and friendly staff. No tours were on when we went so made our own way around, but staff were still spotted around to talk to you where needed.
Café was a bit pricey and had very limited options for food, but did the trick.
Would love to go again in the better weather.

This is a small but unexpected gem. We were lucky that when we visited, they had people dressed in different period costumes who would talk about life in their period. Doesn't happen all the time. Also I had recently acquired a (19th century) Mauchlineware box with a picture of Aston Hall and was able to identify the exact location of the view shown on the box (not the front of the house as shown on its website). The member of staff helping me hadn't seen such a souvenir before and was very pleased to have seen it.
J. S.
Expecting a change after 20 years but no diffrence, still fascinating as we attended the Halloween Event it was very spooky and entertaining, with a twist of history added. As a child i remember walking through the long corridor. The tour guide was informative and knowledgeable very professional. If your a lover of history then this is definitely a place to visit, with story's of sucess and romance Aston Hall is a beautiful place suitable for all the family.
Im a oxygen user in all honesty this may not be a good place for people with mobility issuse as accessibility may be a problem akt though there is quite a bit to explore on ground floor too.
K. P.
A well recommended day trip with a truly impressive well preserved example of Jacobean architecture and really friendly staff. Bonus: 2 for 1 for English Heritage members!! 👍🏽

Can't say much about Aston Hall as I never went inside. Went for a food and drink festival which was great. …
W. A.
Looks awesome however we didn't go inside as well we're just at a food festival on the grounds hopefully next time
S. B.
It's amazing to get such an up-close look at a home built during this time. It's definitely something that us wacky Americans can't see back at home. The big guide sold for £5 was worth the cost as it explains things in much greater depth than the small signs can.
j. J.
Visited for the Christmas fairy tale theme. Making your way around these beautiful historical building you come across several fairy tale characters. From Hansel and gretel to sleeping beauty. The big bad wolf and prince charming and many more...fabulous for young and old.lots if stunning Christmas trees dotted around too. Hot soup and hot chocolate with marsh mellows to warm up in the adjoining restaurant added to the feeling that Christmas has now arrived....lovely event and worth a visit ....
D. B.
Very interesting place to visit. I learnt a lot from just a couple of hours visit.
L. W. B.
what a great after noon out. The house has changed inside from a formal museum to a true Jacobian home.
children sadly don't go free now and the adult tickets have gone up. The tour guides are no longer there. This is no place for the disabled as the floors are so highly polished and so no wheelchairs or pushchairs can be taken round. There are a lot of stairs large stair cases and you go up to the servants quarters in the roof..
The house has Jacobian furniture in there and some original paintings of the Holte family and some copies. They have a bedchamber that King Charles the first slept in the night before the Battle of edge hill. There is the Kings room with all the armoury in it. tapestries made by the family. Kings dressing room and best bedrooms saloon and many other rooms.
The attic is the servants rooms with a bed in made of straw and small rooms leading off it for the male servants. There was a concert block that had a hole in it and a grating this is the toilet the servants used. There are rooms that aren't open yet.
There's a stuffed tiger in the Johnson room and it contains the memoriblia of a visit from Queen Victoria. The kitchen pantry and servants hall is also laid out to show they lived below stairs and there is food laid out.
The day we was there they were selling tickets for the children to join in the beauty and the beast trail.
The children are given a small booklet where they have to find things design things and find out what things are made of etc... In the great hall we had to find squirrels. won't give it away but we found them. Was extremely lovely to go round and see history. In the banister on one floor there is a hole it is thought that this was done my a Canon ball in the English civil war. The house dates from around the 1800.
Villa park over looks the hall the Holte and. The Holte family are buried in the church by the hall.
D. T.
Lovely oasis in the middle of Birmingham. Loved the history especially the kings and queens who stayed there during the Civil War. #wheelchair access is challenging for the hall but ok for the tea rooms and gardens.
A. P.
It's a beautiful building and the staff give you great advice and stories walking around.
R. B.
Went there for the independent Birmingham food festival, it was amazing and a great atmosphere. Food stalls and choice was great!
A. J.
Very interesting place to visit all the staff are friendly and welcoming craft shop too over priced unfortunately but interesting house.
R. A.
We went here whilst they had a burger/ street food festival on. The area is disgusting and wouldn't chose to be in the area unless I want to get stabbed. The hall and grounds itself were nice though. Wouldn't re visit unless there was an event.
b. w.
Very cold and creaky worth a visit if you want to lose an hour , some of the history is okay , but I'm told the night ghost tours are good which figures
A. D.
Excellent historic place to visit, all the volunteers are so helpful and friendly.
S. P.
Bit disappointed with the santa needed more decorations.and a roaring g fire said was staff shortage fair enough but was cold not very christmas.
K. M.
Here for an independent food festival. The gardens are beautiful and there's plenty of parkland to play in. Because of the festival the hall was closed so will be back.
S.
Beautiful Jacobean Hall. Wonderful volunteer guide. Friendly staff in the cafe. Great place to visit.
Z. J.
Good quality visit, staff helpful polite . Hall bigger inside pleasantly surprised lots of history.
Cafe lovely friendly helpful staff would recommend a visit.

Amazing place to visit packed full of history
R. T.
Enjoyed it the odd Scream to make you jump and the Guide added to the Atmosphere
Z. P.
It is my favorite place, I have been there so many times and I will come back
S. R.
Fascinating local history and certainly worth a walk in the house and around the gardens.
J. G.
We all went to the ghost tour yesterday evening it was so good 👍
A. R.
Been here but it was closed but still looks beautiful, i took a picture outside.. im going to go again to see what's inside

Great night on the Torchlit tour x very entertaining and lots of information
R. s.
What a fabulous piece of history preserved in this great hall and surrounding parkland.
M. K.
Great place to spend the afternoon with or without kids. My daughter loved the gardens and I enjoyed the tea room.
L. R.
Always a pleasure to go to Aston Hall, can not believe such a majestic building on our doorstep, beautiful grounds, lovely little coffee shop. You can have a guide but we opted not to. I took my two grandchildren 8 an 15 just the right age to appreciate the surroundings and history. There are staff at hand to answer questions and they are very knowledgeable. You can just wander round at your leisure. We met a Victorian lady dressed in full attire which was nice. It is a beautiful building, we was there over an hour as we went to the coffee shop after. There Is a charge to get in now it cost us 14 pound for the three of us. The children got a quiz sheet and they had to find various things throughout the house. There is also a little souvenir shop. The children was able to dress up in Victorian clothes and you can take pictures if you like. It is very impressive. I like to take the children every year. Look out for Christmas events. Excellent.
L. S.
Came to see fantastic performance of Sonia Sabri Company's 'Same, Same....But Different.' Building itself is an amazing survival as well.
A. M.
Visited here end of January 2016 and I was impressed with this beautiful Jacobean building. Gorgeous to look at and even more outstanding is the guided tour with great lady who conducted the tour. Travelled here with a friend, we caught a taxi from the city then a bus back so it is doable to visit this stunning museum. Best thing about this place is most of the rooms are still majestically furnished unlike similar establishments with barely any furniture on display. Absolutely recommended to visit and explore. I loved being here.
M. M.
Really lovely old house great if you like history, friendly staff very informative, part of national trust please support, had art by local talent very interesting
A. W.
Well worth a visit . Loved the witch finder play out.

ASTON HALL.
A great place to visit. Old Jacobite Mansion. Well preserved. Near Aston Villa football stadium.
A. C.
Really enjoyed, wondered round at leisure
Close to railway station
M. H.
Lovely old historic building, well organised tour and friendly knowledgeable staff. Cafe also very good.
P. M.
Aston Hall food festival was fantastic, ruined only by the weather. But everyone carried on regardless and enjoyed it👍👍👍
J. G.
Very interesting old house. Didn't do a guided tour and we were through in a bit more than an hour.
R. H.
I have known and enjoyed this house and park for over 70 years. It is fully furnished and the guides have been very informative and keen. (Although I have not had a tour for several years I visited the park recently) I noticed wheelchair access into the building, but not sure of inside access as their are staircases to Upper and lower floors. The cafe in the stable block is clean and modern with toilets adjacent. This jewel is very much worth a visit of several hours.
S. C. B.
Nice.big park with two good play areas. Sports facilities including new outdoor exercise equipment.
Visited on Monday not realising the Hall and cafe are closed on Mondays.
There is a lovely area with nice planting, interesting seating and a water feature but it is closed off to the public. It used to be open and a lovely place to sit down or for kids to explore.
I live locally so it's a nice park to visit for an hour or two. If you live another area it would be good to visit when a special event is on in the park.
Aston Hall is okay especially if you visit when special events are happening. There is lots to see in the hall, a quiz and activities for children and some interactive activities.
P. A.
Excellent view in autumn season 😍
R. 1.
Beautiful grounds, well kept interior.
C. O.
Lovely place lots of info on house history garden and grounds big.
J. B.
Beautiful building, and a nice green surrounding area. However the building was limited in its offering. A ‘props’ in each room and was lacking in any real history.
Would have given 4 stars if they didn’t charge £8 for the pleasure of entry, a little steep considering what’s on offer.
S. J.
What an interesting place good info on history of house through the years
K. W.
Highly underrated! Extensive hall with loads to learn and read. The staff are knowledgable and friendly, and the Hall regularly hosts events and exhibitions. Gardens are small but perfectly kept. It’s a good place to spend half a day.
I’d like the cafe to have a slightly larger range, but that may improve if if becomes more popular.
J. O. B.
A very nice place to host events.
T. J.
Wonderful piece of history. Great access to the buildings and very informative and helpful staff
A. C.
If the walls could talk at Aston Hall,...handsome and haunting property. Incredible history. Beautiful garden (not in bloom) and green grounds even in early March. The volunteer guides were enthusiastic and staff at the cafe were very welcoming. Bring an extra layer of warm clothes for your visit inside the main building. (The temperature felt colder inside than outside.) Easy 8-10 minute walk from the train station.
V. H.
A beautiful place. We got in for half price as we were National Trust members. A really high quality refurb, this place has loads of character. Tea room and gift shop as well as gardens to look around. Would recommend.
R. L.
Attended a wedding function here. Beautiful room which had been decorated to a very high standard. The buffet food was both hot and cold and was topped up throughout the service. The disco was well liked, although not quite to my choice of music, he entertained the bulk of his audience.
There was ample parking, and the staff I spoke to, we're both polite and friendly.
A definite high class function facility
S. N.
Well worth a visit. Thoroughly enjoyed the tour.
Visits of the house are by guided tour only so worth checking up on the times before going. The volunteer guides were extremely knowledgeable and the tour fascinating. The tour lasted about 75 minutes.
The cafe was disappointing as it had very little choice but not surprising as there were very few visitors on the day we visited.
A. B.
Outstanding visit. Really impressive rooms. Write ups are basic but give you some idea of what you are looking at. No audio guide. Spent about an hour or so. Don't forget to walk down the hill to see the church and tavern that go by the same name. Both are short but impressive visits. You will want to get a drink in the tavern ;)
N. W.
A real gem in the centre of brum. Newly refurbished cafe, nice food. The gardens could have been a little better. The staff were so friendly and very knowledgeable. Fantastic for a quiet lunch.
T. F.
Cold and windy, didn't went in. The park is nice though.
J. T.
Brilliant historical place to visit. Guides were engaging, entertaining and enthralling!
r. h.
Spent so so many happy times here as a kid finding secret passages and the cannon ball hole in the wall, a very beautifull building that gives a lot more for people to think about than some of the much bigger sites around our beautiful historic country
J. G.
I have a lot of great memories of Aston Hall. It's a beautiful house and I really wanted to show my children around and share my stories and my knowledge of the place. On the plus side money has been well spent on it in particular outside where the park and gardens had fallen into disrepair in the past. However, I was very disappointed, especially after paying entry, with how little of the house is on display compared to in the past. I don't mind paying for entry, especially to help the upkeep of this hidden gem of a place, but as it stands it's poor value especially for someone like me who knows just how much there is to see behind the locked doors.
E. P.
We went on one of the ghost tours in early January. The atmosphere was great and it was very interesting learning about the ghosts that supposedly haunt Aston hall. The guide was wonderful, spoke very clearly and he was quite funny too. Really enjoyed it and had a lovely coffee and hot chocolate in the cafe afterwards. The profile of Aston hall against the evening sky was mesmerising I'd recommend going
A. H.
Simply amazing, what a gem. Absolutely love all the carved features and panelled rooms. Condition of building is amazing. Gardens lovely, an oasis away from the surrounding city.
G. B.
Peaceful place, interesting tour of the hall, would recommend, Bostin.
J. W.
Aston Hall is overwhelming. The house had so much personality. The patches of lime green and crazy slippery algae in the corners of near the front door, the big beautiful gardens on either side of the property that smell of roses even before they bloom and the sound of children playing on the lawn *That on it's own blew me away,
K. c.
A fantastic old hall in great condition. Very educational. They have fantastic themed events. I went to the Halloween fright night very scary and funny well wort the £10 fee. I would definitely recommend it.
A. K. T.
🚴♂️Enjoying morning exercise riding bike at Aston Park, and morning fresh air is very good for your health🧘♂️
M.
Just a wonderful place to visit. Friendly staff and lovely to meander around at our own pace. Although staff or volunteers might want to carefully watch kids in some rooms mishandling furniture.
A. M.
Went there as a kid now as an adult with my son loved it
L. H.
Interesting history but not a lot in the way of original furniture. Gardens not very impressive but the grounds are a good size if you want to walk. Cafe doesn't have a large choice of food.
H. H.
Lovely day out, good price beautiful building
C. D.
A meaningful part of local and regional history. The tour was guided and worthwhile, free then to investigate other rooms and grounds.
It is worth taking a short walk down to the local football ground and park.
A.
Not too far from the city centre, this is a fantastic historic building. We visited and participated in a Cluedunit evening, which was thrilling in the dark. Fabulous building, worth visiting day or on a special event night.
F. K.
I went a long time ago and it is a wonderful place. There's a great feeling of history to it. I did want to see the whole building but there are doors that are locked and have heard more and more of the house is being locked from the public view so not great
A.
Great example of that era of stately home and it has a lot of rooms to exhibit. Staff were very friendly. The cafe didnt have a great deal to choose from but everything else was nicely done.
D. R.
Great ghost hunt inside a beautiful building
G. T.
Trip back into the past a how the other half lived.
V. E.
Great place to spend a day. I learned a lot from really lovely tour guides who knew their stuff. Fascinating history and a beautiful place to visit right in the heart of the city. Well worth going.
J. W.
This is a fantastic place to visit, I worked at Aston Hall during the '96 & '97 season as a museum assistant & it was an absolute pleasure to work there. The house is set in a large park which is tended to by two gardeners & a park keeper. The house was built by Sir.Thomas Holte (Baronet) & is 400 years old & steaped in history, Aston Villa fc is just across the road. Well worth a visit 🏰👍
N. B.
I only entered the grounds due to an independent food festival being held on sight. Beautiful gardens and need to visit the actual hall in future. A hidden gem within inner city Brum.
R. G.
Very nice place to visit with the family. Tours guides are there to guide through out Aston Hall. Gardens are a relaxing place to sit down and enjoy the peace and quiet.
J. E.
Fantastic fright night would recommend goin here if you love to have a bit of fun an frights
J. H.
Very interesting, and nice cafe
C. M.
Absolutely beautiful old house. The gardens are amazing.
a. c.
Great place. Well worth a visit. Would love to go back in summer, to see garden in bloom. I visited in February, cafe on site (nice hot chocolate ) friendly, informative staff. Support this place!
J. M.
Well worth a visit. Need to book a tour.
M. E.
This is a jewel in the crown of the history of Birmingham. A wonderful building that deserves to be seen by everyone.
When some people think of Birmingham they think of a city with a thousand trades or the Peaky Blinders. Yet what they should also think about is Aston Hall.
It's located a stone's throw away from the Villa ground. And within easy access of public transport.
It won't take long for a quick visit and believe me if you like your local history then this is the place for you.
g. w.
Well worth a visit. The gardens are free! The cafe sells the best pot of tea i have ever tasted, for only 2.20.
A. D.
Dissapointing. Extremely busy but there was a lack of displays and information. You would think on the open day they would be extremely prepared- this was not the case. Nevertheless the building is lovely.
M. L.
Lovely day out at the music and food festival.
Q. u.
beautifully preserved house, it was a treat to roam around the big rooms and corridors. Felt a little lost without a guide, hope to get a guided tour next time...
S.
Well preserved
R. W.
Birmingham's Jewel in the Crown Lots of special days.Things for children to do.
G. J.
Always a good time at Aston Hall go regularly. Took 3 year old grandson for first time and he enjoyed it. No proper guides though, only volunteers.
P. N.
Aston park, it's a beautiful park, I often practice yoga on the grounds, always make an effort to visit when I go to my original home town Birmingham. I think the location is ideal, it is a safe and clean park that has been well kept.
J. L.
Aston hall fright night on the 25th October 2019 was bloody amazing, actors were brilliant, the woman in Black was the Star she was scary Well Done. Well most definitely go again.
L. M.
I like going to this park. It's very beautiful you can take your family or little ones and just chill out for the day. It's great.
S. K.
Excellent for all the family, loads of rooms to explore. Make sure to take the quiz sheets at the start to keep the children captivated all the way through.
p. m.
Excellent place with very rich history. Please visit it if you like gardens, especially in summer when all flowers are in bloom.
Here are just a few details about this historic mansion:
Using a design by John Thorpe, construction commenced in April 1618 by Sir Thomas Holte, who finally moved into the hall in 1631. It was completed in April 1635. It is now Grade I listed. The house sits in a large park, part of which became Villa Park, the home ground of the Aston Villa football club.
The house was severely damaged after an attack by Parliamentary troops in 1643; some of the damage is still evident. There is a hole in the staircase where a cannonball went through a window and an open door, and into the banister. The house remained in the Holte family until 1817 when it was sold and leased by James Watt Jr., son of industrial pioneerJames Watt. The house was then purchased in 1858 by a private company (the Aston Hall and Park Company Ltd) for use as a public park and museum. After financial difficulties it was then bought by the Birmingham Corporation in 1864, becoming the first historic country house to pass into municipal ownership.

Fabulous experience although not as expected for Christmas tour. To see the house is amazing and the grounds. Worth a visit

Beautiful historic buildings and a lovely cafe
D. N.
Brilliant place to visit and interesting tour
Sadly the cafe leaves a lot to be desired as not much of a choice and the service is not good. We will go back again as you can't take it all in in one go.
M. C.
Went on a tour today was amazing. I was so unhappy when school kids came along and our tour was cut short. It be nice if they could have timed the tours better.
S. R.
Stunning grade 1Jacobean Mansion. Interesting history of the Holte family and how they lived, complete with ghosts. Beautiful plaster ceilings and freizes. Oak panelling and fine examples of Jacobean furniture. Dont miss the great staircase and the awesome long gallery.
B. L.
Wonderful jacobean house with lots of interesting history. Our guide Erin was on her first day and made the history come alive. Highly recommended .
S.
Fantastic place to visit, tours really interesting, gift shops, wonderful garden and park to explore free parking and knowledgeable tour guides
L. P.
We found this fabulous building on atlas obscura so worth a visit, a great find. Nice gardens and tearoom.
A. G.
I have to say I was rather disappointed with Aston Hall. There is so much history that could be told or signposting facts in rooms would help to. Maybe there was but it's not evident.
Not a great exhibition at the moment, a couple of images really not suitable for children.
H. D.
Stunning building with extremely knowledgeable staff. A hidden gem in Brum
M. L.
very interesting house and the volunteer guide Mike was very outgoing and made the visit perfect. Well worth the time and entrance fee, highly recommended.
