Reviews of Edgbaston Waterworks Tower

The towers of Perrott's Folly and Edgbaston Waterworks, which is an short distance apart, from each building. This is where J. R. R. Tolkien, lived nearby as a child, going to Edgbaston Boy's Grammar School. He was also the choir boy and parishioners of the near church ,The Oratory of Saint Philip Neri, Birmingham after doing some research.

This is a bit like a church from the outside. But it is a water work inside.

Great for Tolkien fans!
It is believed that this tower and the other, just one block away, Perrott's Folly, inspired Tolkien for “The Two towers” in “The Lord of the rings”. He would have seen them regularly, as he lived in nearby Stirling Road for a time, and used to worship in Birmingham’s Oratory, founded by Cardinal Newman, which was also very close to them.
It is a Victorian building designed by John Henry Chamberlain and William Martin around 1870. The site is operated by Severn Trent Water which is actually simply a chimney, that can be seen clearly from Waterworks Road .

On my walks round Edgbaston reservoir I can see this tower which looks very like a Campanile or bell tower in Florence Italy. I visited this tower but it's behind security fencing at Severn Trent Water so difficult to photograph. It would be better if access were allowed!! Also, it's supposedly one of the two towers in JRR Tolkein's Lord of the Rings !!

Amazing bit of architecture wonderful to see it has lasted even if it no longer in use

Excellent tower stands within Severn Trent Depot, I believe this is a chimney once taking smoke from the fires that helped drive the steam pumps long ago.

It is nice but nothing special and you can't visit the tower.

(Translated) You cannot enter and it is in the middle of a company that works ... You enter through the gate and you can get close for some photos but nothing more. Birmingham City Council should value this place more for Tolkien lovers and more
(Original)
