Reviews of Thinktank Birmingham Science Museum
S. B.
A really great experience for people with children. The ground floor is all about engineering and engine power. The first floor talks about the development of technology in terms of plastic, jewellery, metal working and also about the "spitfire" aircraft. The second floor is dedicated to human body, wild life and how the species are vanishing. There is a shop as well to buy some gifts. The third floor is all about space (planetarium), modern science such as micro vehicle, nanotechnology... and a place for children to run and play "Mini Brum", it is a wonderful day out.
M.
Amazing museum to spend a day out with your kids. My kids loved the rockets show. It was a great show that give children knowledge about how the rockets fly and explain the UK plan to do a spaceport. Also, there are practically experiment to show kids how rockets fly and what equipment needs to do that. Moreover, there are two playgrounds inside and outside the museum. I suggest that you need to spend around 3 hours enjoying everything there. Finally, it could be said, it was an incredible experience.

Interesting day out and staff who are clearly enthusiastic about their exhibits, they were really happy to talk to us! Only 4 stars because it's really expensive and in my opinion they try to cover too much in not enough detail, I'd prefer a museum dedicated to less but in more detail. Obviously industrial revolution in Birmingham is fascinating and there's quite a lot on this topic but I'd really go to town on it (but I'm an engineer)! Also the children were disappointed that some exhibits weren't working and the outside section was closed, but I'd conclude everyone came home satisfied!
C. F.
I went as a university student on a wednesday, when it is free.
On a weekday, it can be busy with school children taking trips. Apart from that, the museum has plenty of exhibits to look at and interact with. Considering it was a free few hours for me, it was brilliant.
J. E.
It really is a fantastic place, especially for a little boy (and for a not so little one!) and especially on a day like today when it's quiet you could spend hours just wandering around and playing whilst learning. Would be five stars but it's starting to show its age, quite a few of the interactive exhibits aren't working any more, which is a little sad. Still, Spitfire!
S. B.
Really good value for money and well worth the visit. Lots of areas to get involved in, lots to play with for adults and children. Interactive and educational about local and national history and engineering
C.
Our (family of 5 - 2adults 14yrs, 13yrs & 7yrs) first visit to the think tank and based on some reviews I was unsure if it would be an enjoyable experience. I allowed 4 hours for our visit, but we could have easily stayed longer. The kids and adults really enjoyed learning all about engines, pistons, pulleys etc and loved how interactive the whole experience was.
Mini brum was great for under 8’s and the science garden was great fun. However, we all said the best but by far was the planetarium. We say the Webb universe show and it was absolutely amazing. ( sit towards the back if you can as you would have to crane your neck a little sitting at the front)
We ate in the signal cafe - I wouldn’t again just because it took too long out of the time we had. The two members of staff were working so hard ( so kudos to them) but food still took a long time to come out ( 35mins) due to busy/high demand and it wasn’t great quality unfortunately. There is an indoor picnic area if you wanted to take food along.
Overall, would definitely recommend a visit.

We visited in a Sunday and pre-booked so there was no que to enter, so a great start.
The museum itself is spread over three floors of the millennium point complex, ground floor had the cafe (we didn't eat here, as we brought our own food) and the exhibit regarding transport, and industrial revolution.
First floor is about what makes Birmingham great. Including much of its industry in silver and vehicle building.
Level two consist of our plant, including ourselves, the animals on it and how we have to look after it.
Level three is the future and technological advancement. There is also a kiddies play area on this floor as well.
Level three also houses the museum's growing glory the planetarium. It's 2.50 per person bit there's a show every HR and it's spectacular and well worth the price.
Outside is a science garden and (weather permitting) worth a look.
We spent 5hrs in total at the museum and neither ourselves, nor our children were fed up at the end. We went home happy. Again can't say anything regarding the quality and price of the food served as we didn't eat there. Parking is in the nearby millennium point car park, and it's reasonable priced for the time we spent there.
We will certainly visit again.

Suitable mostly for primary school kids. my kids are too old for it but still enjoy it. quite a lot of interactive stations.
there is a play area for aged 8 below at level 3.
the science garden is brilliant.
G. R.
Ordered tickets online prior to visit but had to allocate time of arrival. Only a 10 minute walk from Moor St station. A bit worried that my teenager daughters (16&17)might get bored, they loved certain parts of it. My 7yo daughter also enjoyed it. The science garden playground outside was a hit with all of them. We spent nearly 3 hours there in total. Some informative exhibits like the world’s fastest car in it’s era. If you want to visit the planetarium there you have to pay extra in advance which we didn’t bother doing.
C. H.
Kids really enjoyed it and we easily spent most of the day exploring the different floors. Its a shame some of exhibits were broken or removed for “covid” safety.
L. F.
A fantastic family day out. So much to do and see. Plenty of interactive exhibits still up and running. Staff were going round disinfecting surfaces regularly.
B. B.
Had such a lovely time visiting the science museum. Its more for tge youngsters and plenty educational things to see and learn
T. E.
First time visit in over 2 years, since prior to covid.
Thoroughly enjoyed our visit, exploring 4 levels and the outdoor science Park. All attractions had plenty to do and interact with but it was apparent mini brum is in need of tlc. Many foods and accessories to different shops missing which limited amount of play/interaction.
Outdoor science Park is excellent, will be happy to visit again in the future.
V. K.
The most important thing to remember, when you book your tickets, this place is too big to be explored in one go. If you are meticulous, you will do 2 floors, maximum 3. But there is more. So plan your visit in 2 attempts. Luckily, you buy an annual ticket for the price of one visit. An operational cafe would be nice, but here is covid, so all your food comes from vending machines. The robot drummer is crazy off sync ))) But overall, firm top mark.
P.
Great place for adults and kids. The ground floor is for mechanical and scientific wonders, everything from steam engines to spitfires. The 2nd floor has a planetarium, fossils and a variety of other fascinating things. While the 3rd floor holds the giant play area for the kids. Reasonably priced and kids under 3 go free!
M. M.
Great day out for little kids, especially the Science Garden and Mini Brum. Staff are really friendly, helpful and so organised when dealing with school trips. The kids loved it. Thank you!
B. M.
Was a lovely day out lots too see and do, was dissapointed lots of the interactive stuff was closed but it was still interesting, I'd say the only downside is the covid vaccination centre right inside, must admit it put me off abit but once in you forget, learned alot took a 7 year old and he loved it too
Z. M.
Something to do for all ages. Went with 1.5yo and 4yo, and easily spent 4hrs there.
C. P.
You can easily spend 3-4 hours in the museum. There's a food hall and planetarium inside. Young people 10 years and above would enjoy the walk through experience in the science museum.
D. S.
An enjoyable experience but IMO geared to snapshots but some good dolisplays of early engineering, many locally based.
R. O.
A definite place to visit for anyone of any age! Will definitely be going back. Our child are 6 and under and there was something for everyone. They enjoyed the planetarium and have been asking lots of questions about space ever since. The outside play area was a big hit
K. R.
This is a fantastic place for a family day out. There is both indoor an outdoor play areas as well as multiple levels of interactive learning. Here there is an area within the museum to both eat food that you have brought with you and a cafe to buy food. Suitable for all ages.
S. G.
Had a good time here. Busy half term experience but timed entry helped. Lots to see and interact with, most activities working with some broken or out of order as you might expect. Expect stairs and plenty of time on your feet. cafe was overwhelmed and not sure they were meeting their own standards but that's not the reason you're there. Lots of topics over 4 floors, we paid the extra for the planetarium show and enjoyed it apart from the whizzing around in the show, and seemed to fly past
Worth a visit.
B. J.
Took my 2 children and my 2 younger siblings for the day and they loved it all, the park outside was brilliant too we all had a lovely day exploring
L. G.
We visited this weekend intending to spend 1-2 hours and ended up being here for 5 hours. The kids absolutely loved it, normally they get bored quickly in museums. It has to be the best museum we have taken our 4&6 year olds to in terms of how stimulating it was for them.
The Mini Brum was amazing and we spent a good hour there alone. They loved the planetarium experience and wanted to watch more there. They found the exhibits on the rest of the floors very interactive and exciting, and of course the garden was a real highlight too - we had not seen something like this before.
I think the museum was like a 'best of' from all the other museums we have visited over the last few years - the science museum, the MAD museum in Stratford, the transport museum, the Welcombe medical museum, and our local market hall museum in Warwick. Most of these places get a bit samey but this had a little pinch of everything. We spoke to many of the staff, and all of them was helpful, friendly and professional, which made us feel like we were in safe hands.
Genuinely impress and will return again. Thanks for a great day out.

I held a Think Tank birthday party to celebrate my daughters birthday. The group was mixed in age from 1 to 17 so the museum was great because the younger kids had a fab time running around and playing in Mini Brum, which is like Birmingham’s version Kidzania but way cheaper and just as good. They also have fun playing in the garden, which is only suitable on a dry day. There were lots of fab things like dinosaurs for the older kids to explore and learn about. The lunch they provided as part of the package was great. A bottle of water, sandwiches, yogurt, fruit and a slice of cake which we ate in a party area which was cordoned off for our group and we could leave coats there. I was very impressed when we arrived. They were ready for our group with wrist bands, stickers and a guide to show us where to go. Our host was very lovely and helpful. I would definitely recommend holding a birthday party there.
A. G.
Absolutely fantastic. We bring our two boys a couple of times a year but haven't been since they've built the new Mini Brum. They could have stayed in there all day.
Also the Covid 19 exhibit is exceptional.
The virtual planetarium was great as well.
Look forward to our next visit!
L. C.
Had a great time out with partner here ,we enjoyed each floor of various things to discover.

Great experience, just wished everything worked

Lots to look at and try for adults and children. Got very busy on a rainy Sunday but still enough space for everyone. The garden was the best part with so many things to try. The map says you have to exit out of level 2 to get the garden, this is rubbish, just go out the way you came in, wasted time and energy following the map.
R. C.
I was very much impressed with how technology evolved over the years. Seeing the old machines in operation was very nice.
a. g.
Not amazing, but a reasonably interesting place to visit.
The museum is quite good. The spitfire and hurricane are the stars!
N. H.
My children went with a friend and his parents, they absolutely loved it! They have asked to go again as they had so much fun, they are still talking about it a week later
K. R.

Good couple of hrs spent there, educational but felt out dated, no real drink facilities as the cafe was closed and the drinks vending machines were either empty or out of action. Planiterium was a good experience not sure if paying extra for it was worth it as the volume wasn't very loud so couldn't hear very well also it got very hot in there and made u sleepy.
d. t.
Great place for the whole family and not badly priced very reasonable, perfect for any age and learning for all ages, parking is really close and not as expensive as the rest of Birmingham at only 5 pounds for 4 hours in millennium point carpark. There is a play science garden for children but good for adults as well definitely will visit again

Although I would guess this venue suits people who like engineering and history we found it wasn't that good for our 4 year old grandson. Some of the interactive items were not working, I thought there would be more hands on activity.
He did enjoy Minibrum play area but it become too crowded when at least 3 school groups turned up all at once.
In my opinion this is a place once visited you wouldn't want to visit again.
a. g.
Not amazing, but a reasonably interesting place to visit.
The museum is quite good. The spitfire and hurricane are the stars!
G. B.
This is a smaller version of the science museum that used to be at gas Street basin. The displays are well arranged and informative
If I could afford it, I would go every day.
Love the place.
R. C.
I was very much impressed with how technology evolved over the years. Seeing the old machines in operation was very nice.
D. B.
Seems a little tired now and we weren't told about the outside section being closed. Given a voucher to use at a later date but as we live an hour away not sure if it's worth a return. My little girl enjoyed herself though
N. B.
Came here with our troop of brownies and rainbows. Really interesting day out, the kids especially loved the science garden.
The staff were so helpful with our group, especially Beth on the ticket desk.
A. s.
Absolutely fantastic place with lots to see and do. Highly recommend a visit as there is so much to learn in there. Very informative, impressive displays with lots of interactive elements. A must see.
P. N.
Best place I've been in Birmingham. Awesome organised in this days (covid) and stuff will always help you. Great place for learning about past, present and future. My son loves planetarium. I will back there more than 100% !

You need atleast half day to explore entire museum, plus garden is also there which need another hour to spend. So dont plan in hurry otherwise you wont be able to experience the museum. It is loaded with full of stuff from planetorium to medicine. Cafe is there inside, i found they are bit rude.
D. W.
Lovely time visiting the thinktank, lots of interesting/fun stuff to explore for all ages
J. R.
All round a pretty good day. Spent 4 to 5 hours there. Not too busy. Toilets on every level, picnic area. Only fault is the coffee is actually awful. Like honestly was the worst I've ever had. Even smelt rank. Apart from that it's actually very good
A. S.
This is a brilliant place to go to with or without children. Lots of interactive things to do. And the place seemed to hum, even though there were not many people there when we were there.
S. R.
My 7 year old had a great time. Food was good at lunchtime too. Definitely recommend especially if you have inquisitive kids.
W. T.
Spent a very enjoyable 4 hours with the Grandchildren playing and exploring. It will all felt Covid Safe and there was lots of evidence of extra cleaning it was also comfortable in the air conditioning as it was 29c outside.
A. v.
What a massive place, it's filled with past, present and future models and animals. The staff r friendly and very helpful and it has a modest gift shop.
V. A.
Amazing place to visit and the staff couldn't of done more to help us if they tried... The planetarium went over and beyond accommodating us... We will defo be back... The food was good too and all of the tickets and food really good value thank you from the National star
M. M. 4.
This place is just awesome. You really do need an entire day there. Its massive. We will definitely go again so much fun and so interesting
B. Y.
Perfect for primary school aged kids - the younger ones have plenty of buttons and displays to press, and the older ones will enjoy reading the displays.
We went with a group of our children aged 3-6 and they all enjoyed it.
Tips -
Allow 4 hours+, we only had around 3 hours due to arrival time and felt rushed at the end. It is a substantial price entrance fee so go early and make the most of it.
Planetarium - worth paying extra to visit, depending on what show is on and what age your kids are. We watched Polaris (cartoon about polar bear and penguin) which is aimed at age 5-10. The little ones enjoyed it but probably didn’t understand the plot.
There’s a coat/bag area on level 0 (just behind reception on the right side, you can leave all your stuff and not have to lug it around.
For little ones (aged 0-2), there’s play areas in Mini Brum on Level 3
Theres a ‘quiet room’ on level 2 where you can offer prayers throughout the day - this is uncommon in this country and very useful.
S. M. B.
Really great museum, for kids and adults alike. The planterium show was also really interesting
A. C.
Can’t believe we hadn’t visited before, great place with loads to entertain all ages, Mini Brum is fab - it’s a role play area with shops, builders site with a slide, hairdressers, doctors vets and much more, it’s so involving I couldn’t get the kids out of it. It was a particularly hot day so pleased it was air conditioned. The garden was also fab both little people loved it, really interactive both my 2 year old and 5 year old really loved it.
D. W.
A great day out that won't cost you the earth. We thought we might get out in a couple of hours, but we were having so much fun, we ended staying all Saturday from 10.30 until 4.30pm. Thanks to all the staff, who were so helpful, patient, with me in my wheelchair, and our 4 year old granddaughter who ran riot everywhere. We will make a return trip maybe a yearly trip to see how Olivia progresses with her education and interests.
C. H.
Museum hard to find but was well worth it! Brilliant exhibits. Quite run down but was great otherwise. Planetarium not worth the price. Screaming kids and uncontrolled children running around. Actual show not fit for adults and was for children. Left after 4 minutes. Exhibits are definitely worth it.
N. H.
My children went with a friend and his parents, they absolutely loved it! They have asked to go again as they had so much fun, they are still talking about it a week later
C. S.
Took my 2 year old and he really enjoyed the role play centre (mini brum) on the top floor. The science garden is also great. There is enough here to occupy children up to at least 12 years for hours. Well worth the price but I wouldn't plan to eat here as it is expensive and looks mediocre.
D. A.
Really enjoyed my time there today just wish I had more time so much to see and do will definitely be going back
J.
We went to the Planetarium for the Pink Floyd experience earlier this month and it was amazing.
I want to say a massive thank you to Colin Hutchinson for allowing myself an my fiance to have a look at what he might experience, because my fiance has vertigo and suffers from things that spin.
He was a lovely man. Very helpful and understanding
H.
Amazing experience and brilliant customer service from Sheryal. Will definitely come here again.

A great place to learn about Birmingham and it industry.

Brilliant day out for my nieces birthday. Took 5 children of different ages and they all enjoyed it. Especially outside activities and my toddler loved playing in the water. Mini Brum was great all children had a great time. Paid extra for Planetarium and it was good. Food not too expensive. Picnic area for your own food. Our day was slightly spolied because the lifts were out if action and I have a pram with a new born so couldn't keep using the stairs. We plan to visit again as we didn't have enough time to see everything. All in all great educational day for children and adults.
d.
Not very clear how to get on whilst avoiding the vaccine centre but it was our first visit and we did enjoy the various displays and especially the garden.
M. P.
A great day out for all ages... Especially for a birthday kid. Energy let lose on a world of information and interaction. The venue is good as well as the odd café dotted about the floors. The staff were friendly enough at the location. The only thing that let the place down was that quite a few of the interactions weren't working which was a let down as they were some of the interesting ones.
C.
Not enough for one day. Plenty of things to do. Brought my kids, 2 and a 5 year old and they never got bored. Love the mini brum area, spent nearly 4 hours there. Just let the kids run loose and mums can enjoy their coffee, which you can buy in the cafe right inside the play area!
J.

D. S. R.
Nice place for children til age 12. Lots to learn and play. Not suitable for toddlers and adults. Planetarium is basic not for adults. Food court / cafe is good. Overall the place is good with staff helping and courteous. Good things is that they sell actual 65 million year old fossils fish, shells, shark tooth and Dino poop. Good for collectors.
S. H.
We visited with a 3 and 5 year old. Unfortunately quite a few of the interactive exhibits were non-functional and the engine area did not provide any exhibits to explain how steam (or other) engines work.
The planetarium shows were very brief (5 - 10 minutes) and lacked any educational content.
The outdoor play area was good fun, as was the water play area and make believe area where children can be doctors, cooks etc.
N. H.
Great place to go with the kids, grandkids lots to see and play with .. our youngest grandchildren is 4 and she has a fun time ...

Good place to go with the kids. We got our tickets on a site for half price and it was well worth the money. I don't think it's worth full price in my opinion. Good for young and old, we took our own dinner so can't comment on cafe. Outdoor area was closed but it was a windy cold day. Went to planetarium which was great apart from ignorant noisy family behind who kicked our chairs all way through. On a hole I would recommend at a discount price.
G. F.
Superb. We've not been for years and took our teenage kids back for old times' sake. They massively enjoyed it and still spent ages on the interactive exhibits. Great for kids to learn about science whatever their age.
a. b.
If you have young children who want to explore and learn about the world then this is a great place to take them. Located centrally in Birmingham the Thinktank offers alot for interactive play for children.
Exhibitions within the museum include:
- animals
- the human body and how it works
- engines, trains and cars
- materials, manufacturing and electronics
- power and forces (outside play area)
- space and robots
- recycling
- planes
- jobs (a dressing up section with 4 areas for imaginative play)
- planetarium
We spent a whole day here with our two children taking our time to play with everything. Everything is hands on a stimulating. We went on a quiet day where we had time and space to do what we wanted, I say this because I imagine it would have been a poorer experience if it were a busy day.
Overall good day, not disappointed, the kids loved it and the staff were nice and friendly.
M. T.
Exceptional place for me and my 2 year old daughter.
Mini Brum excellent and the planetarium is also very good. Fascinating information throughout.
Favourite thing here has to be the robot who talks and sings
Perfect for a 2 year old.
M. H.
Great scoence museum with interactive exhibitions.
Worth visiting the planetarium and the dinosaur fossils including the actual Triceratops skull.
J. T.
Great experience, just wished everything worked
R. B.
What a wonderful day out for all the family, plenty inside and out to keep you all busy for hours, and wow the hours do fly by x
A. T.
Good for young children. There is a portion of the exhibits that has the old steam machines which was quite interesting. Like also how there is a section that links to Birmingham etc. Other than that, felt a little aged and some of the displays are not working.
T. S.
Great family visit, as it was during half term there was alot of shows and events on which I recommend attending at this time if you are visiting with kids. The Planetarium was brilliant and £2 each was a good price to book when you arrive.
J. S.
This was a fantastic day out with the children. A fun way for them to learn. Can not recommend it to highly.
s. C.
Went with my nearly 3 Yr old. Minibrum was good fun. She was excited to see dinosaurs but it's mainly the dinosaur bones and stuffed animals in that section (2nd floor) , so it went over her head a little, as did the mechanical displays on the first floor. The outdoor science park has the interactive water feature and other things, so that's where she had the most fun. I probably won't return until she's much older, as it was quite pricey for an adult admission (£14) she went free but as she's 3 soon it will come up to about £24 for both of us, and most of the place is geared towards older children who can read and maybe reflect on things they have learned at school.
p.
This was a great family day out, plenty to do on each floor and the science garden (weather permitting). Its had a bit of a change up and now a lot of the toddler activities are located within Brum Town. Our son loved it, it had all different types of mock play within a toddler town. We've been to a few of these imagination streets/ towns and Brumtown was on par if not better than some. The only thing that slight needs improvement is the planetarium, it feels a bit dated now.
A. C.
Thinktank itself was fantastic, the whole family found something of interest. We spent about 5 hours there, we wish we had gotten there earlier and we wish we had taken a packed lunch as it gets busy and food is on the expensive side. But we would definitely go again.
J. M.
Good day out with the kids. Although unfortunately it isn't as good as before. Not as many things to do for the kids as previous years. Seems like they've removed a lot of interactive stuff that was there before.
R. C.
So much for toddlers to do! My 22 month old loved Kid City and looking at the exhibits downstairs including the robot. The garden was a treat as well. Highly highly recommend!
K. W.
Fantastic place for both adults and children alike. Planetarium is a must see. You could easily fill a full day here. Mini brum is great.
D. T.
Some photos are spoilers!
Kids and to be fair adults too, will get far more suprise and excitement going without seeing before hand what's there to see. There are a few interactive surprises that kids will spot and want to instantly go to. Photos here could ruin that 'oh gosh' kind of moment so I'd probably undersell and over deliver - don't sit and look at the phots with the kids, just let them find those things as they go, when they go. That said....
Lots to take in, welcoming and extremely hands on experience for younger children through to teenagers. The "about me" is a great way for people to learn about the science of your body, and adults were really engaged as much as children. I went with my brother, sister in law and two nieces. The kids never tired of something else to look at. They were engaged, excited and learnt something new on a whole range of things. They had the chance to make some bats (it's close to Halloween) there are facilities for drinks and snacks although unnecessarily pricy in some respects. The health Street is real fun. The phones are real! So if you see children playing on reception in the made up health centre, be sure to give them a call from the phone box or dentist maybe! Great fun seeing children able to play and move around safely and learn with each other things that will stay with them
There has clearly been a lot of effort to immerse people into various sciences and that's great. It works
Don't let a few issues put you off. For example when you arrive, the ticketing system was confusing. They offer a membership that is good value but easily missed as the staff member didn't offer it until we asked and couldn't articulate the value or easily explain the cost options we had ie tickets v membership. We had to calculate the cost for the adults and two kids v the membership for a family, that's limited to 2 adults, and add on a third single adult ticket. It was almost better value but didn't include planetarium, which was only £1.50 each and you'd probably only want to experience it once. So do some quick research on offers and calculate before you go or it will be a frustration.
When you arrive the first interactive instillation about recycling let's the science museum down. It's worn with parts missing from dials and the controls that should engage, seemingly achieve nothing. But it's no indication of what's to follow, there is lots to look out for, you could even use the pedestrian crossing immediately after reception to get some road sense or just role play being a car and wind the kids up and get the senses racing
It's very much worth a day out and to do all the floors justice, you would probably want a good full day or just over half if you rush through things you're not that keen on like old cars or bikes, but others will enjoy those, like the original mini and things from most parents childhood. Or even grandparents, thanks to the steam engines and trains!
Most engaging was first and second floors. The real Dino head, the all about me, the health Street - kids will love
Hosted inside millennium point, Corporation Street and some places to eat like Boston Tea Party etc could be a pitstop on your way to or from the city centre and train stations. It's a real easy walk from Moor Street, slightly longer from New Street but there are buses that stop pretty close, parking in the multi storey at Millennium Point too. The short walk from the Millennium / Eastside park to the city centre is also a good entrance but you'll find reception for Think Tank on the second floor of millennium point so car park level. But there are good lifts near the main entrance and not much time waiting for them.
Pack a lunch and use the Science Museums garden which has some great equipment and things you'll need to work on as a team 👍.
It's good day all round
D. A.
Really enjoyed my time there today just wish I had more time so much to see and do will definitely be going back
A. J.
My 9 year-old son and I went here while my daughter was at an NEC event. We did struggle to find parking but that was because I followed my sat nav instead of the brown signs. Plenty of underground cheap parking when we did go the right way.
This was our first visit and we enjoyed it fully, so much more than the Science Museum in London. It was quieter, more compact and with everything you could imagine.
Favourites included the science garden; the human body including the digital games; the natural history section, the interactive robots and the transport floor. We loved the various engines which introduced pulleys, pumps and explained the workings of pistons and cogs.
Great day out, we would live to return. Thinktank still accepts Tesco vouchers which was even better.
L. E.
Had a great day out here today with my 6 year old. Lots to do and before we knew it the day had flown by! Signal box coffee on the lower level is also lovely and the food is fab. Highly recommend.
C. K.
It's OK. Certain things are looking very tired and worn and some of the interactive items are broken and not in use. You would think that in the busy 6 week period that these would be fully functional, they can't say that they don't have the means to fix them because they have literally got the university on their doorstep. Funding shouldn't be a problem with the admission prices, It's just a bit of simple engineering/maintenance to fix them but it's just laziness if you ask me.
j. h.
Took 19 month old grandaughter and she loved the mini people floor but could do with a gate to stop very young ones from climbing the stair to the slide (yellow tube)
B. B.
A really great experience for people with children. The ground floor is all about engineering and engine power.
A. B.
It could be fantastic, but unfortunatelly it's not. It's not cheap, and maintenance is not on good level, plenty of broken/not working items. Overall its nice place, and we had a good time, but still could be a lot better...
B. M.
Looking a bit tired.
A very nice place to take your children, a fairly good range of display items, but you really can't take away the fact that this is still only a museum.
On a nice day the best part is the outside area where they can burn off some energy. The second floor was next popular with my younger children, it is a bit like Roblox, but in 'real life' , which was a novelty for them! They had very little enthusiasm for the other floors, although I found the engineering first floor best for me...
We went on an open day, I think otherwise it is a bit overpriced and could do with a bit of an update and some repairs here and there...
Oh, and better directional signage since the university seems to have taken over everything else...
R. M.
Came across this place quite by accident. It's great..!! To be fair, I'm a bit of a big kid, so loved playing with all the gadgets, and doing the kids educational things.. Loads to see and do, spent a few hours exploring.. Planetarium is worth a visit too.. There is a cafe, but it's very limited. You can take your own food tho if your planning a day out.. Well worth a visit..!!!
A. N.
Really excellent day out for the entire family in rain or shine. Definitely big enough to split over 2 visits, especially when it's a sunny day as the outdoor bit looks like great fun. Only gave 4 stars as there were quite a few interactive displays that were out of order which was not great considering the cost to get in.
M. B.
Lovely place to visit, with plenty of mechanical attractions. Don't forget to pre-book through the website.
V. G.
An enjoyable experience for everyone even if you are not a big fan of science. We visited with a 4 year old a number of the displays were applicable for her age.
We bought our tickets off groupon thinking we had a bargain but it would have worked out cheaper if we had brought a family of 3 ticket. I did not see this ticket option on the website when we brought the groupon tickets. It's worth looking into before purchasing the groupon vouchers. The museum was good value for money but at the same time a little expensive in comparison to other visitor attractions we have visited.
Our daughter really enjoyed interacting with the displays especially the science garden, the canal lock, children's play area and the robot. We also found the whole museum very interesting and enjoyed the interactive.
We would definitely recommend as a school visit or general family visit. If we lived within the Birmingham area we would consider purchasing a family pass.
A. N.
Good fun with lots to do for my 8 year old and 11 year old children. Spent most of the afternoon, so probably enough for 4 or 5 hours realistically.
m.
Nice piece of science a lot of interesting information. My 4.5 year daughter enjoyed to but I think it is better for bigger kids.
A. T.
Good for young children. There is a portion of the exhibits that has the old steam machines which was quite interesting. Like also how there is a section that links to Birmingham etc. Other than that, felt a little aged and some of the displays are not working.
R. C.
So much for toddlers to do! My 22 month old loved Kid City and looking at the exhibits downstairs including the robot. The garden was a treat as well. Highly highly recommend!
C. K.
It's OK. Certain things are looking very tired and worn and some of the interactive items are broken and not in use. You would think that in the busy 6 week period that these would be fully functional, they can't say that they don't have …
J. M.
Good day out with the kids. Although unfortunately it isn't as good as before. Not as many things to do for the kids as previous years. Seems like they've removed a lot of interactive stuff that was there before.
M. T. P.
Wonderful! Amazing! Illuminating! Fascinating! Such a thoroughly incredible experience to be able to explore and delve deeper into the discoveries that we have made into what makes life the way that it is, our past, and what awaits us in the future!
G. F.
Superb. We've not been for years and took our teenage kids back for old times' sake. They massively enjoyed it and still spent ages on the interactive exhibits. Great for kids to learn about science whatever their age.
K. S.
Great place. Lots of interesting interactive exhibits.
L. E.

Went 17th March saw pink floyd tribute preformed by Andy holt brilliant visual experience
A. P.
We have season pass holders, my children love visiting. It's great to pop frequently as there is too much for us to do in one day!
P. B.
Great place for science lovers as it explains the way a machine works be it automotive or human body in simple terms. It also gives an opportunity for us to perform the experiments and build on our own the machine parts, etc.
Planetorium was a bit ok. My expectations were a bit high and was thinking to know more about the sky and Galaxy but the show was limited to only to Earth, Sun, Moon.
A. F.
A brilliant place to take young children, a lot of inter active displays, also a great play area and a cafe, all in all a good day out.
C. H.
A wonderful surprise. One piece of advice take spare clothes and maybe even a towel ☺️ the kids area on the 2nd floor is amazing my 4 year old loved it and even my 1 year old had fun playing especially getting soaked in the water bit! Enjoyed walking around the different areas. Wasn't sure what to expect but a really good day out.
B. M.
Great for kids. Lots of activities. Planetarium good but would have liked to see star formations. A great day out
M. T. P.

T. J.
What a fantastic place! So much to see and do. Children (7 & 14 years) especially liked the outdoor garden area, the interactive activities made it interesting yet educational.
S. M.
Lots to do. My 2yr old thoroughly enjoyed his time and asks to go back to 'fishtank'! I will be taking him again soon!
E. 1.
really good day out for whole family my 4 year old love it. my 6month old had a good time too. we as adults had had great day! the staff were lovely and friendly. the food was really good definitely recommended and definitely going back :) absolutely loved the science garden.
(I also thought it was covid safe one way system and masks on all the staff)
D. V. (. D.
Great place for families to go. Kids and adults will love it.
A. C.
Lots of interesting stuff for everyone ages 0 to 99, I love the floor division, if you are with kids stick to the upper two, otherwise go to zero and see very informative things from Birmingham history.
T. M.
Good, but not so interesting for my 4 year old as some of the interactive displays aren't allowed due to COVID restrictions.
i. j.
Me and the children had a great time here ,there were lots of levels in this discovery centre they even had real trains from ages back ,my children easy spent quiet a few hours here and I love that they have a wetplay area like no other my girls were fully engaged in play and also learning it's was like kidzana but better ,the wet play area outside was great, there was lots of getting involved with science, mechanics, biology they also had two coffee shops I recommend the one by the massive train downstair which is also by the wet play area.
j. l.
Great for kids and adults
Plenty of diverse stuff to see. Nice connection to Birmingham and surrounding areas history.
M. K.
Good place to take your kids. Lot of information and specially Little Brum is one of favourite place of my kids.
L. C.
Brilliant place and even better now they have the play village on top floor
A. S.
Its a fantastic place for the whole family. Did not realise the day pass so quick. Huge parking nearby and good food point too.
m.
Nice piece of science a lot of interesting information. My 4.5 year daughter enjoyed to but I think it is better for bigger kids.
L. H.
Went here this evening for the spooky science night and it was brilliant, I went with a 8 year old 5 year old and 2 year old and all of them had lots of fun. Staff was brilliant couldn't fault a thing thanks for a wicked evening.
I returned here on the 12th of November with my 2 year old and he had loads of fun. Mini Brum is fantastic for the little ones, only downfall was I thought 14 pound for a adult ticket was abit pricey 10 pound would of be more reasonable.
B. T.
Very interesting place to go and I have not been to anywhere quite like it.
I took my 2 year old son with me and my partner. He enjoyed it because he was able to interact with lots of the exhibits. However, not every thing was fully operational or working which was a shame.
There were several floors showcasing different themes, such as trains, planes, roleplay and much more.
The garden area was also interactive and lots of fun too.
We spent around 3 hours here and was probably just worth the money it cost.
I can imagine kids over the age of 2 would enjoy it even more and we will be returning again in the future.
r. s.
Had a fun filled day at the museum. My daughter is very happy and wants to come back again. We could enjoy the planetarium as it was all sold out. But otherwise it was an amazing day.
N. E.
Brilliant experience, every member of staff was super helpful and friendly, especially Steve in the planetarium, great personality. Spent the whole afternoon seeing the displays and trying all the different things to do
K. S.
There seems to be lots for different age groups, definitely ideal for schools. Bit not a bad family outing, for the younger kids the stamping was really fun, and the mini Brum at top. It's very similar to a good museum.
C. V.
A great place to learn about Birmingham and it industry.
C.
It's a great place and it's a bit of mix really for young children and older children. My children (8 & 2) weren't really interested in the ground, 1st and 2nd floor. There is a few fun activities for the kids on 2nd floor but they enjoyed mini brum and the garden. I did feel like it was a waste of money especially that we skipped most of it. But we did have fun in mini brum and the garden - I'm just glad it was a lovely day to go in the garden!
So have a think about your kids interests first before booking here
P. B.
Like everything about this place, from the very old machines on the bottom floor through the last Century's engineering, through the medical and natural world sections, to the science of tomorrow. All very reasonably priced, £14 for an adult.
R. B.
Went for a party little one had a great time in mini Brum and exploring what happens to food! Would definitely go again to explore the rest!
S. D.
Lots of interesting things to see and do, cafe was clean, service was quick.
Although we expected to pay for parking in the adjacent multistorey car park, we didn't expect to have to pay the clean air zone charge of £8.00 as well... A little bit naughty of Birmingham City Council to include the car park in the zone. Surely the zone is to encourage people not to drive in the city centre..
B. R.
Good information about exhibits, interesting items and an eclectic mix.
Signage (e.g. 'stairs') is in a bad font for dyslexics.
S. B.
Was a good experience and they allowed stagelgered entry times to avoid overcrowding. My only complainant was that not all of the interactive displays worked. We were however able to spend a few hours here with the little one who was entertained the entire time
s. s.
Just enjoying new space at thinktank mini Birmingham...kids loved it, some brummies icon there, old Joe, Selfridges bullring, Alexandra race track...always nice to be here.
K. L.
Great day out! Bought my tickets off Groupon to save a few ££. So many different things to see from transport to how the body works. There's a lot of Birmingham made and Birmingham history here. Great for tourist and locals who want to see how Birmingham has evolved!
m. c.
Visited on wet weekend, fairly impressed by variety of attractions/exhibits, plenty for all ages
I. Y.
Oh it is so much fun. Get a yearly pass and enjoy it year round plus access to other places . We love science and we love think tank .
M. P.
The museum is very good but I found that a lot of the displays did not work at the time that I was there. Getting in was quick and easy which is good when you have children. The cafe was reasonably ok the food came out quick but it was over priced and very basic.
P. D.
An awesome day out for the family, excellent activities for all ages, combined with a wonderful educational environment, good amenities and food options, at a reasonable price too (although very busy being half term), overall well worth the reasonable entrance fee, and the extra couple of pounds for the planetarium is well worth it too.
A. E.
A good day out for older kids. The garden area is the best for smaller ones though. Need to prebook on the day for the planetarium so need to arrive early to get the show you want.
A. N.
Lots to see and do. Care had been taken about providing sanitisation stations after interactive displays. Such a shame that several didn't work. Lots of places to rest and nice cafes
I. F.
Would be five stars if more than 50% of the exhibits actually worked. The ideas are great and well thought out but for the cost is expect there to be some maintenance of the exhibits. Planetarium seemed to have chocolate shakes sprayed all over the screen, the vast majority of interactive exhibits didn’t work at all. Staff were friendly and knowledgable, but would be more use fixing exhibits than just standing about. Gift shop was also rather disappointing.
M. W.
We held our 6 year old's birthday party here and it was a hit with both parents and children.
S. E.
A great day out, lots to see and do. Good for young kids. The outdoor area is well worth a vist too, Easy parking near by
M. D. -. F.
This place was brilliant. I'm not an adult, so I wasn't really extatic about going to a museum. And although that is what the think-tank is, it is a very enjoyable place to visit.
There is many nice things here, such as the outdoor areas.
Visit this place.
s. h.
We were exceptionally disappointed that we were unable to go to the planetarium as it was sold out. Whilst I understand there are restrictions on numbers at the moment, there is no way to prebook so people who arrive early get the slots.
After being closed for so long it was also disappointing that there were many interactive features not working throughout the museum.
The coffee corner in mini Brum was closed and the vending machines not working so there was no where to get a drink while the children played.
However, we still spent over 3 hours here so it's good value for money and the kids loved it. Their favourite area is the science garden outside.
T. S.
Went with school... Great place to visit.
Definitely will take the grandchildren.
K. M.
My family love this place! We have been coming for years, we recently went and they have used their shutdown time during covid well and completly refreshed the place. They are huge new exhibits and areas. We will definitely be refreshing out membership.
M. C.
Planetarium Equinoxe Pink Floyd tribute was amazing! Lovely experience! 🤩
E. B.
Really fun, took my 2.5 year old and he had a great time!
Y. V.
Excellent place. Enough to do to make a whole day out, and still leave he kids questioning why they have to leave at the end of it. Don't miss our the science garden. It feels like a playground, but it is hands-on interaction with science at its best
V. S.
I remember this when most of it was at the "old" Science Museum. Took my kids along for a great day out. Took my eldest along with her children she still loved it as did the grandkids. Some of the magic had gone for me. Will go again.
S. S.
Lots of things to do but very badly signed to get in with all the construction going on. Added an extra 15 minutes just finding the entrance which, if signposted better, would have been 20 seconds from the carpark.
We have a 4 year old and he enjoyed the interactive experience but was exhausted. Out door garden was closed when we went so 4 stars.
But have a voucher to go again due to to this.
M. T.
Everything to look at and interact with is brilliant, bring your own food. Canteen is a rip off
G. T.
Absolutely amazing worth every penny of the entry fee, it has got something for all ages from toddlers to seniors, definitely need a second visit to see the things you miss
*. E. *.
The kids loved it. The adults loved it. Would go again and again especially when they change things in the think tank every now and then, so it will always be a different experience. From stuffed animals to a giant alligators bones under glass what you have to walk over to a mini kidzania. The play area (abit like a park but like no park you've been to) is actually really good, science & fun st the same time. Honestly one of the best attractions I've taken the kids to in Birmingham. It's fun and interesting but educational. I even learnt a few things myself :) defo recommend to all.
A. P.
Took the family for the day which included 3 children, 6, 8 and 15 and they absolutely loved it. There is so much to do and see and as so many of the exhibits are interactive, it kept the kids busy. Loved it
D. M.
If I am being honest, I had a fantastic time here! I can easily spend all day here. There are so many cool things to learn and to see at Think Tank. But, £14 entry? That's excluding Planetarium, which is extra!
I don't mind paying to see a museum but definitely not at this price point.
Similar place such as Manchester Science Museum offer free entry! (They also have a special SPY exhibition going on right now and guess what? It is also free!)
C. C.
Great museum, plenty to see inside and out; thoroughly recommended we will be returning. However, 1) it's a little tricky to locate within Millennium point, 2) the car park suggested although close is a little on the pricey side, bank on £5 minimum and 3) the car park is just inside the new emissions zone which cost us and extra £8! Definitely gives the feeling that the local council are milking that situation with where they have placed the boundary.
S. M.
Such a great day out, especially if you have little ones. Kid city is amazing!
Restaurant is well priced & has good food. Facilities are well maintained & clean.
J. S.
Amazing something for everyone to be involved. I will be back next week.
A. K.
Nice location and the kids loved it. Plenty things to do. A bit price for a museum..,
C. M.
Awesome place for kids and adults.all the exhibits especially Dino fossils were great.. specific section for engines and railway are the highlights of the place
j. w.
What a great experience great for my granddaughter my great-granddaughter an myself can't wait to go again fantastic
A. M. S.
Had a really enjoyable trip here, spent about 4 hours but still didn't quite manage to see everything. Very interesting to hear from Steve about the Railton Mobil Special, and also some of the stories behind other exhibits in the museum.
B. M.
At least 2hours to spare. Very interesting, nice routed
Some of the items in the science park were out of order, but hope they'll fix these soon
P. T.
Excellent day, lovely for the kids especially the mini brum. My 2 year old spent nearly 2hours playing didn't even realise the time. So much for kids. Well worth the money.
M. J.
Great place, but a number of the exhibits weren't working.
D. T.
Great place, very fun for all. Take a picnic though, food is pricey.
T. I.
Brilliant place to bring the kids, lots of interactive things for them to get involved in. 😀😁
S. C.
Initially unimpressed because of the interactive nature of the initial exhibits, but overall it was enjoyable. Worth a visit.
V. B.
Amazing place for kids so much to explore. We recently visited the science garden which my boys loved and bonus is entry to the garden is free after 3pm.
W. H.
Lots of activities for children of all ages. A fun day out. I learnt a few things about ISS and space travel.
J. B.
Well organised. Quite busy today but felt safe. Children loved it. Especially 'Little Brum' Good day out but tiring Can't see everything in one day.
A. W.
Great autism only mornings, you get the place pretty much to yourself for a couple of hours. Doesn't take long to get busy once it opens to the public though.
A. C.
Great experience for all ages. The family loved it. Lots to do
L. M.
this place is amazing so much to see and do my children have auctisim just the drive is a nightmare
L. K.
Great place my 8yr loved it real good family day
A. G.
Amazing place ,will definitely go back soon. So clean and everywhere staff cleaning and supervising.
l. A.
Kids had lots of fun and the Lego activity was fantastic. Kids city is really good for the younger one
J. S.
Lovely educational day out with the children. So much fun too.
J. K.
Nice place to let the kids go explore while I have a drink
l. j.
It was such a fun experience I love every bit there is so much to do and see
擦.
It was good but more signage needs to be posted round the transport hubs to allow people to accsess it more freely
A. N.
Beautiful place.... Kids enjoy it ... Amazing reflection on Birmingham history and industrial revolution.
L.
Great fun with an enjoyable educational element included. Will be back!
A. D.
Little disappointed really. I guess the interactive side has been impacted by covid, but didn't really seem that great. I mean the kids enjoyed it, but I feel the cost was a lot to get in. I know there's a lot that needs to go into maintenance of stuff, but still. Disappointed also that the planetarium was all sold out, due to limited capacity again due to covid, and we got there mid morning- can't be booked in advance, so those there first thing are likely to be the only ones getting tickets
C. F.
What a fun place! The kids loved it and the parents didn’t want to leave.
K. S.
Great place. Lots of interesting interactive exhibits.
J. G.
Awesome to kids and adults. Came prepared, because you can spend all day
C. D.
Great place to bring kids, lots to do and see.
K. H.
Great for infant and junior school kids. Easily spent 3 hours here. I door and outdoor activities.
J. W.
Been here many times. Love this place as does my daughter who cried when she had to leave last Sunday. Only bad point here is the cafe over priced and over cooked ran by kids.
M. E.
Great day out for all the family and the kids will learn as they have fun
P. S.
We went as a family of 6 from 19 month old
10 year old and 4 adults we had the best time ever so much to see and do for all ages we spent nearly the full day there as there was so much to do including have lovely lunch too.
M. I.
Little sis didn't enjoy it as much as I did that's what 4 stars. For those who don't know it's like an interactive museum. The best floor has got to be the one with the animal/dinosaur skeletons.
C. G.
Wonderful day out would definitely recommend great value for money great staff
D. P.
Some of the areas are becoming very dated and in need of some reinvestment.
Many of the interactives were broken which although overall we had a good experience, it was frustrating that there weren't even signs on what was faulty!
The new mini Brum area is a lot of fun, but it only highlights how dated the original areas are becoming!
C. M.
Machinery used during the industrial revolution were well presented howver, I thought the planetary show was short.
J. G.
Brilliant day out with family and grandchildren ages 30 month and ten. Lots to see and do spent whole day here, could still have spent longer. Highly recommend.
c. b.
Was good but very hot and dark in there. I took my assistance dog and a child screamed at him. Lifts were very busy when a lot of people could of used the stairs I wish I could as I am in a wheelchair.
E. T.
The new mini Brum attraction is amazing for small children to rub around and role play. Going back soon!
S. G.
Great way to spend a few hours, very informative and fun. Even for grown ups 😁
H. E.
Amazing place, something for all ages . Fun way of educating little ones
L. W.
Had a really good day plenty to do and explore and learn and get hands on with things and a whole area dedicated for younger kids that really stimulate there little minds and gets them using there imagination and senses even as an adult you cant help going back to your own pre school memories and joining in
h. p.
Great day out for kids and adults. Love the place
R. D.
The place is brilliant for children, very interactive, very engaging a full day of fun and learning
C. E.
Great place to spend a day! So many things for kids to do. Staff are friendly and welcoming. Many things to get involved with.
T.
Love it here - loads of hands-on for the kids, interesting vehicles for us nerdy dads and the planetarium is amazing.
P. D.
I was part of the University of Birmingham School of computer science robotics demonstration that took part in the local schools initiative. The museum is an excellent place to take children of all ages and a great way to get them interesting in STEM Subjects.
H. K.
One of the coolest most interactive museums I've ever been to. Be sure to bring the whole family and have a blast!
T. D.
Great day out.
But the lifts were closed and due to issues with my hip, I found getting up and down the stairs to be quite difficult.
When I asked about using the lift, I was shrugged at.
s. w.
Some exhibits not working, some were out of order due to Covid restrictions. The older child got bored easily and the younger one preferred the outdoor play area. The canteen area was clean and spaced out.
H.
Amazing experience and brilliant customer service from Sheryal. Will definitely come here again.
M. M.
The museum organised an early hour for children with special needs and it was a great opportunity for us to explore it
D. B.
Came here to protest against the vaccine, as it almost killed Nicki Minaj!!! Turns out the vaccine is 100% safe but I got mugged by a 5"5 south Asian male with glasses wearing a Chelsea shirt who drove off in a white ford fiesta in his mid twenties I reckon. Never visiting Birmingham again. Although the wagyu beef from dixy chicken was banging. Shame I had to make off without paying as my wallet had been taken in the prior accident.
J. S.
Great for kids
S. L.
Good , childrens play excellent. Lots of memories of my childhood with trsnsport etc . Its a combination of the old science museum in Newhall St and the Natural History section of the Art Gallery
N.
Great fun for toddlers and bigger kids, lots to see and decent value.
S. T.
Brilliant place. There's something for everyone. Went there with children who have learning disabilities and they loved it. Plenty of space. Very friendly staff. A treat.
A. K.
Super cool place for small kids ages 1-6. Mine really loved it they played so much we stayed till closing. Outdoor part is super nice, but needs little maintenance. The futuristic section is also very interesting, even for grown-ups. It would be very nice, if we could get inside on some of the vehicles on lowest floor. The robot arms working like in real car factory were very impressive. A little red light, where the welding happens, would have been cool.
M. B.
Lots of machines broken and interactive equipment. Also the top floor is really out of date supposed to be showing new innovative things that are 5/10 years old. Disappointing.
S. R.
Lovely place and my son really enjoyed it.
They just refurbished the whole kids area and looks amazing!
S. B.
Great place for the young children and a few things for the older child 😁
P. S.
Excellent displays....everywhere...well labelled, with good explanations. All staff we met where most helpful. Thank you.
S. D.
Great museum. Amazing experience visiting there with my son
M. T.
The museum is itself pretty good although quite a few of the exhibits didn't function properly. The place was an absolute din with all the school parties present and really only became pleasant once they had left! My advice would be to go later in the afternoon when you'll find it both quieter and emptier and you can spend more time with your children to enjoy the younger activities and enjoy the machines etc. on the ground floor. Also the Planetarium (£2.50 extra per person) is good but the projections seemed slightly out of focus - I have seen much better. Still a worthwhile day out with my Granddaughters.
H. R.
Good fun and if you go after 3pm it's only 3 pound per person I would definitely recommend this place.
M. O. A.
Very nice place for visiting with kids. Love that place.
J. W.
Grandchildren loved Think Tank , lots to keep them amused. The staff were enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Well worth the ticket price .
J. K.
Despite its smaller size, there was as much interactive fun for the kids as the Science museum in London.
However some of the playground gizmos were less than ideally maintained.
g. b.
Great place for all the family, lovely staff. Will be visiting again soon.
A. H.
Really enjoyable time here today, although disappointing that more people weren't wearing masks as encouraged on the website.
g. h.
A very unusual place to go and well worth taking the kids they will love it too
S. G.
Loved stepping back in time and traveling through the years from past to present.
Very informative and reasonably priced.
From engines to cars trains to animals fun for everyone
H. J.
Had the kids birthday party here today. It was absolutely brilliant! Everyone enjoyed themselves. Steve and the party crew went out of their way to make sure we had a fun and easy time while there. Barbara and the admin team were great when booking it.
The facilities are amazing and the kids had a blast playing with the imaginative toys and role play rooms. I would highly recommend it.
L. I.
Great pleace to spend the time with the family. 4 floor and garden activities. My 4 years old really enjoyed it.
A. S.
Excellent place to take kids- the best age range would probably be closer to 10 than younger years as a lot of the areas required a level of reading and interaction that younger children would not possess. The interactive parts of the think tank are a little aged now but this is made up for when you visit the machinery and engineering sections with the locomotive and the bus. The outdoor area is excellent also.
K. O.
Visited the planetarium for a one man Pink Floyd tribute act. Great show with excellent visuals projected onto the dome roof
J. J.
Lots of exhibits broken and not working.
The outdoor space is lovely, but indoors was slow and unengaging. Cafe service painfully slow.
Not somewhere we'd visit again.
M. I.
Love the thinktank. Great place for family outings, especially the planetarium. There are always lots of different activities going on too.
f. j.
Good interactive displays, kids enjoyed it. It's ok for a few hours, nothing more
C. L.
Fun day out. Particularly enjoyed the planetarium and the outside fun. Only one lift working meant either lots of climbing or standing around.
h. s.
Think tank is absolutely amazing! Each floor is packed with exciting things and you can have fun and learn at the same time. Each floor also has interactive play! The play area is great, workstations for children including hairdressing and construction where kids can be in charge. The outdoor play area is filled with a wide range of exciting equipment and great in summer as it has some water play!
J. 0.
Informative. Small but covers all basic areas.
L. P.
We really enjoyed this place. I was worried about the price, but it worth it!
S. S.
Really enjoyed our visit here as did our 2 year old grandson who especially liked the minibrum area.Only downside was road closures which made it very stressful trying to get to millenium car park .
S. J.
Great museum.. Educational for both adults and children. Fantastic play areas
L. R.
Lovely time had by my 4year old grandson and 2year old granddaughter. Brilliant staff really helpful. Definitely will go again
A. O.
Yes to an expensive day out with lots of amenities and local attractions right next to it. Not to mention the refurb was a neat idea. Great improvement and still recommend after so many years. This place still delivers and is always easy to get to
B.
I've filmed here a few times now. An impressive exhibition about science and technology and the conference facilities are a good size with great god.
m. a.
Great place for kids n adults Very informative n innovative.
M. P.
Great day out. Kids love it. Use your Tesco points if you have them.
R. R.
Amazing fun for all the family!
Everything is set out in a one way system at the moment but all items are open including little brum and the outdoor play areas
A. W.
Excellent place for children, with many many educational activities. Parking is nearby at a reasonable cost. An amazing place to visit. The outside science garden is brilliant. Really cool museum. Definitely worth a visit for anyone into transport history and science. The kids loved it, it is very interactive. Interesting stuff on every floor and outside.
m.
Very good in the end but for the first couple of songs you could hardly hear the singers voice but when that got put correct Mott the Hoople fantastic
L. B.
Really good day out. My children really enjoyed it. Some great things to look at and do. Really good for children with most things interactive or fun to see and touch. Some great interesting facts if you can keep the kids still for a minute. The planetarium is worth a look too. Although you pay more for this.
J. W.
Good for young children but needs to be refurbished. Quite a few bits were broken and didn't work
J. T.
Great fun, fantastic day out, so much to see and learn.
N. J.
Kids had a fantastic day out. The Science Garden was the icing on the cake for them. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
C. T.
Brilliant family day out, we spent four and a half hours here and our boys were entertained the whole time.
W. S.
Took a 4 and 2 year old and had a great time, although I would say it's more suited to children who are old enough to read competently. Lots of interactive exhibits to play around with, which was great, spent 3 hours without getting bored. Multi story car park right on the door step and very easy to get to via the m6. Overall an excellent day out.
T. W.
Brilliant day out for all the family. Toddler and 4 year old loved it. Lots of hands on activities for the youngsters. Adults found so much to interest them also.
If you can go midweek and not during school holidays, all the better. Popular for good reason.
F. S.
Great place for kids of any age and adults too. Time just passes by with so much fun things to discover. We packed our own picnic, as it can get busy at the cafe. There's plenty of facilities to sit and enjoy your own meals. Highly recommend for a day out!
s.
Brilliant 4 hours. Very informative and nostalgic. Cafe was good too.
P. S.
A bit of a confusion lay out but a fascinating building.. Great food !
E. r.
We arrived at about 2pm on a grey Sunday afternoon. It was fairly quiet inside so you could get up everything you wanted. The staff were very understanding of our sons needs (the main things being learning difficulties sensory processing difficulties and challenging behavior). They provided a loan of ear defenders in case it was too much for him and said if we have to abandon the visit early due to him being distressed then go back and speak to them to see if we can get a free return visit. Luckily we didn't have to and we had a lovely visit. Many of the exhibits were interactive which he loved as he could just press the buttons and run to the next thing. The favourite was the second floor about our body section. The ground floor level didn't suit him as he wanted to go on all the old trains/cars/machines etc but these were behind barriers and there wasn't much he could do down there (there were tablets and a train game which looked good but too difficult for my son to understand) the other floors were much better. The top floor had the brum imaginary play village which was great but there has been a party before we got there so nothing was in the right place but we enjoyed it nonetheless. There was dressing up, doctors surgery, canal boat, car garage, builders yard, supermarket, hairdressers, a small soft play area, a running track where you can time your lap time (and let off some steam) amongst other things. This was the busiest section but wasn't too busy at 3pm on the Sunday we went on.
We didn't have any food or drinks but there is a cafe downstairs on ground level and a coffee bar in the imaginary play village that both looked nice.
I didn't change my son's nappy or find out if there was a changing spaces toilet so I'd have to find that out if we went back.
They do a free carer with disabled visitor, who goes in at a concession rate.
Overall a very successful and enjoyable trip!!
K. S.
Great fun for grown ups and children alike. Places to have a picnic out you can go eat in the restaurant although it serves the usual stuff. We left and went to a nearby restaurant then went back in with the same tickets. So much stuff to do and see. My toddler loved the human anatomy bit where you can play around with all the senses
W. T.
Plenty too see and do, we've been to a lot of museums and my kids either love them or hate them, this one was just right.
A. G.
Nice place to spend time. Kids will definitely love. Worth spending
T. W.
Great day out with the kids. Plenty for all ages to appreciate and get involved with. Lots of different activities available. Great place to walk around and look at other larger exhibits. The play area outside is fantastic too. Highly recommend the planetarium for an extra £1.50 if I remember correctly.
S.
The museum itself is linked to the University which adds a certain aspirational value to the day out, although also means that visitors must pay attention to the signs (the ticket office is on the second floor).
Everything has been created with children in mind and, whilst children around 7+ will get the most out of the exhibitions, mini brum offers a chance for the younger ones to blow off steam and the planetarium provides a moment of real wonder. We saw the winter sky show and my boisterous 4 year old boy was silent for the first time all day; I wish the shows were a little longer however, ten minutes flew by!
Our favourite floors were level 2 and 3 which include sections on the natural world and the human body. The exhibitions are interactive and both kids were fascinated.
The café on the ground floor is what you'd expect, but it gets busy quickly. There is a picnic area too which is a nice and something not offered everywhere.
If I were to go again I'd arrive before the late morning rush and pre-book (it took us 30 mins to get our tickets). We came during half term which probably meant it was a little busier than usual.
Although it seems a little pricey compared to other museums, Thinktank was a good day out and both kids loved it. Will definitely be going again.
S. I. B.
Very interesting me an my daughter really enjoyed it💯
J. G.
I must admit before hand, I am a keen technologist and science enthusiast so you'd say I'm bias towards the subject. Anyway, in general I would say is good, there is various sections, so there is something for everyone I suppose. But I found that is is a good place for children plenty of interaction, which makes them interested. Very well staffed and run I'd say, friendly and helpful staff. For the outdoors staff, I offer my sincere thanks. Even in cold weather they were keeping naughty children in check and make sure everyone has a go or resolve any small issues. Keep up the good work. Conclusion, is worthy of your money and time.
C. D.
Beautiful museum with a lot of interesting attractions for everyone.
L. P.
It's a great place to go with children. It was very busy when we went on last Friday of half term so the interactive exhibits weren't always accessible but we enjoyed it nonetheless. The garden was great fun at the end of our visit.
D. G.
Great day out for children and adults. Lots to keep the kids interested and learning. Loved it.
P. B.
I can't rate this museum high enough. Loads to see and do with kids of different ages. We actually ran out of time to look at everything even with my two energetic boys. I really like how each floor is split out into different zones/time periods as it made it feel a bit crystal maze like with each floor having something new to discover. Cafe is good for a nice lunch and you are not too far away from the Birmingham bull ring to get yourself a nice dinner.
J. W.
Definitely worth recommending for people with kids at any age, day full of discoveries and fun for everyone. Interesting stuff on every floor and outside. Kids love it. Will come back again. The only thing is price- I think it's too expensive.Great place for kids to learn about science and the world around them as very interactive so the definitely wont be bored! It has different areas so each child will find something interesting
I. A.
Lots of things u can know about it. History of Birmingham since and many more. If anyone interested on since then should visit
C. B.
I largely enjoyed it. There was a lot of industrial history, it was more local and natural history than science museum.
A lot of the exhibits were tired, and few of the interactive worked.
Minibrum was great but rather manic, a few of the parents were taking responsibility for their children... I enjoyed the day, but would have been disappointed if we had paid full price.
r. s.
Has been about 10 yrs since last here still good value but shame some of the interactive displays still not working. Cafe's a bit plain but practical. Was looking forward to 1/2 hr in planitarium ended up being 10 minutes a little disappointed there. Didn't notice much new other than the interactive out door activities which were good. Still a good place to chill.
B. V.
Great place to go with children! My little one loved it and so did I. Plenty of science things of interest to a wide range of ages (for adult too!). My little one enjoyed a Lego workshop which was well ran by staff. Was such a great day out. Though may seem a little out of the way if you're coming from new street, it's definitely worth the while.
R. G.
Amazing place with lots to learn and lots to do, a fun family day out, or even just a solo trip for researching if you're interested, but is very hands on in certain exhibits and great for kids!
M. Z.
Had a nice trip with my 9 yr old and almost 9 months old. The mini brum is lovely for little ones. The only problem was that both lifts weren't working and we had a buggy. I feel it's overpriced for the lack of maintenance. If they keep it up to date then they can justify the price as it does have a lot of potential. The staff were quite helpful though. Would probably return. We parked free on the road but it does have limited free spaces.
f.
Brilliant museum and fun for adults or children. Lots of hands on exhibits for kids which is great and there is an excellent science outdoor garden too. There are lots of floors indoors to explore with some amazing exhibits. Great place to spend all day. There is a restaurant serving food but it is too small with no enough seats and not organised well so had to wait a while for food hence 4 stars. If this was better it would be 5 stars. There is an area near by the restaurant to eat packed lunches if bringing your own lunch. The planetarium is worth paying extra for as it is a fun experience. There is water play for children as well as 2 mini city's to explore and play in. A fun place to go for all ages and we have been twice now.
M. R.
I took my niece and nephews and they really enjoyed it. Lots of interactive things and amazing planetarium. The mini Brum is a great addition for kids to let off some steam and have imaginative fun. Very lovely day out
s. k.
I have visited this museum on 3 occasions and each time I have loved it. Twice I came with my son and let me tell you how much he enjoyed it, especially the mini Brum area. Visited on 3 occasions but still feel like I haven’t seen everything. We booked the planetarium too and both times enjoyed the outer space shows.
C. P.
What a fantastic place!! The kids, as well as us adults, love it here. Educational & inspirational interactive science museum. We could easily spend all day here. My only negative point is that not all of the interactive exhibits were working - fantastic place none the less. Loved the planetarium show!
A.
We've been a few times over the last 5 years as they have a good range of learning activities for the kids. The most recent visit was still great, however, they don't seem to have added anything new since the first visit and there were multiple interactive displays that were not working. It may have been the time of year when they perform a lot of their maintenance but if that's the case they shouldn't charge full price. Still, it's a marvellous place to go for a family morning or afternoon out.
J. B.
Every time we come here it's just amazing!
We've come a big groups, just 2 of us, & loads in between, every time was great & would recommend to all.
Been to a few events here over the years, the latest one was the after hours Halloween event. Really good fun, staff were impressively dressed up, loads of things/shows, a high level of interactivity for the boys. The family had a wonderful time & will be coming again.
J. T.
We had a great time at the museum, with a really wide range of exhibits and areas to intrigue and educate children and adults. The staff were great, and we enjoyed the Lego making extra. The only reasons for not giving it 5 stars were the cafe which was a bit of a let down. And also a small number of the interactive things were not working.
Overall I would definitely recommend this.
T. R.
Brilliant day out for the kids. Ok some stuff doesn't work but didn't stop us having fun. Our favourite was the garden so nice to see kids outdoors having fun in the sun. So much to do we didn't fit everything in so will be back. Looking forward to seeing the new exhibit. Super friendly staff and very helpful. Gift shop is reasonably priced too.
M. G.
We (3 adults) had good time there. This museum is intended for kids, but some of the displays are interesting to adults as well. The "future" and steam machine levels were particularly interesting. There were few old industrial machines for bending wires - those are fascinating, but more explanation would be helpful.
We were there around noon and the museum was full of school groups. I suggest you go there later in the day.
S. A.
Kids loved the new brum. Lovely open space with lots for the children to explore.
E. M.
Good science museum, great if you have young children
D. D.
We visited on a rainy Sunday. My five-year-old granddaughter had a wonderful time; there are plenty of interactive exhibits from which to learn. She particularly enjoyed Mini Brum and our visit to the planetarium. Conveniently, the multistorey parking is literally only a one minute walk away. We found the lockers very useful for storage of our coats and picnic lunch, which we ate in the ground floor indoor picnic area.
j. h.
Good but full off school kids must of been 10 different classes. They all to do some days for school only and the rest off the days without school trips can't enjoy it come 3 a clock it was way better had room to breathe my kids enjoy it tho that's main thing
M. M.
Easy access to all floors lots to see and do. Refreshments available with cafe on one floor and machine on another pipe slide needs thinking about as little ones don't follow lights and I saw children landing on other children and following them straight down.
V. T.
Excellent and a affordable visit for the whole family. We spent most the day there as it was a warm February and the garden kept the kids happy the longest. So many gadgets and toys for them to interact with.
Lunch time does get busy so eat early at the restaurant (order lasagna, fish and chips, chicken bites and kids packups). There are indoor picnic areas too.
J. C.
There is a really big range of exhibits with lots of hands-on for adults and kids.
A. L.
Convenient city centre location (parking to be nearby multi-storey car park) as a science museum. Highly recommend to older inquisitive children who would like to learn about the story behind or the making of. Top floor (level 3) is a popular among young kids; cafe there for tired parents too. Main cafe only serves hot food during lunch hours tho.
C. C.
Nice place to see, not so big, but interesting.
C. M.
Great day out for the kids absolutely loads for them to do now they have a sort play on the top floor called minibrum
R. D.
Very pricey. 1 adult 2 children and infant under 2 (free) cost £42. The kids water play area is no longer there and the mini brum area isn't very good. There was very little tiny children (height wise) can do. Altogether disappointed as have been in the past and it has been a lot better.
T. S.
Brilliant museum, lots for the kids to do and see. The only let down was the planetarium we paid £2.50 extra for this including the children and booked a 2pm slot, but when we got in there people had sat their toddlers on seats instead of their laps and refused to move them when a member of staff asked them to! So we ended stood at the back so we didn't get the full effect!
Y. H.
Good place to take children with a variety of science based themes.
C. M.
Perfect day out! Suits all ages.
M. M.
Visited on Saturday with 3 children under 6. Paid for a family ticket to get in with 1 child being free....£41 in total. The museum is spread over 4 levels, each level with a different theme. Plenty to keep the children entertained. Sadly of the interactive some of the interactive stations were not working but there was still more than enough to do! The museum is exceptionally busy at weekends but it is big enough to accommodate lots of visitors. There is a childrens city which I would say is probably suited to under 8s with various rooms of pretend play (doctors/dentists/construction etc). Lots of special events held throughout the year (we got to meet Paw Patrol characters during our visit for example). Large multi storey car park just outside which was £5 for 6 hours. Well worth a visit.
C. M.
This was my first visit and I was somewhat disappointed as I do not think it's worth the entrance fee....especially if you compare it to, for example, the art museum which is free and has even more to offer in my opinion. The cost of the food is a lot too and not good value though the hot chocolate was nice! There are plenty of things to see and for children and adults to interact with but I unfortunately i wouldn't recommend it mainly because of the prices.
N.
It's amazing place my girls like coming. Lots of cool play areas, play kitchen, play hospital, water and boats, 3D dome cinema, It's garden is good too though last time they closed barely at 4 because it was getting "dark" for health and safety and kids didn't get to play there.
T. S.
Good for young children with plenty of play/activity areas. They have a cafe which serves good and also a picnic area so you can bring your own. The planetarium is a must even for young children. My daughter was 3 her first visit and really enjoyed it. They are 20 minutes maximum so you don't have to worry about restless children
J. B.
This is a great 'museum' for children of a wide range of ages. There are more traditional museum areas for the children who want to know more about their past and there are plenty of exhibits for younger children to interact with. The science garden deserves fair weather to get the most from it but you can easily lose an hour in just the garden.
R. R.
Took my 2 year old grandson. He loved the water play in the street section but I felt other areas in there needed replenishing. There was hardly any thing in the cafe for him to play with and some of the interactive activities did not work. I'm sure Thinktank must take enough money to do repairs and regularly replenish certain items. Especially as this area is designed specifically for younger children.
A. M.
There is a lot to see and do here for the children of different ages. A price slightly too high, but all the exhibition meet very high standard.
K. N.
This place is fantastic, we have been here numerous times. Definitely aimed at the younger child though. Each floor has a different theme. This time we visited the Planetarium which was great and only 1.50. The outside is amazing and keeps them entertained for HOURS.
L. J.
Great place to visit with children. This hands on experience was perfect for all ages. We went with a school trip and it was really well organised so that we didn't clash with others in the same level causing crowded areas. The displays were superb and the children were fascinated with how things were used in the olden days. As an adult it was lovely to reminisce the olden days too! Staff were really helpful and warming and ready to answer any wuestions Definitely would go again.
K. G.
So much more than we expected but quite a few exhibitions weren't working.
L. C.
Grate day out for all ages and can trick them into learning because it's fun.
A. T.
To get us out of the house on a grim and rainy Sunday, we decided to take the kids to Thinktank. We’d had a really good afternoon there last November so it seemed like a good idea. Now, before I get into this I should stress that the venue is amazing – a huge space over several floors featuring a multitude of fun, educational and interactive exhibits. And don’t get me wrong: it’s a great family day out. But when you look closely, it’s really starting to look a bit tired around the edges. A lot of the exhibits were either broken or out of order during our visit.
Our first stop was the ‘recycle’ zone, which is fascinating. But at least two of the big interactive machines were taped off and out of order. A sign on one explained that, due to the bespoke nature of the machines, parts often take longer to replace, which I completely understand – but it was disappointing nonetheless. We then moved on to the Kids’ City, only to discover that the ‘water play’ quarter was cordoned off for some kind of maintenance work. It was also quite strange to find a man fast asleep in the passageway between the medical centre and the post box (completely dead to the world, in spite of a group of curious mums and children gathered round him). I’m not suggesting this was Thinktank’s fault – but it was unexplained and slightly creepy.
The rest of the experience, though interesting and enjoyable, was punctuated with the disappointment of broken equipment. The button on the ‘Future Visions’ presentation (in the ‘Futures’ section) didn’t work so you couldn’t select anything; the robotic arms making a Jaguar car were inactive, with a message on-screen that read: “Start button reset required – contact Tech Team Ch.3” (but no one came to reset it during the two and a half hours we were there); the middle and ring fingers of the ‘finger joints’ exhibit were broken…and there was probably much more.
One of the two lifts was out of order during our first visit, which was a real pain for anyone with a pushchair (including us) trying to access the various floors. I’m not entirely sure, but I think the same lift was still out of order when we visited yesterday, which is really something four months on.
I know it’s a huge space with hundreds of exhibits to maintain - which take a daily battering from thousands of visitors - but it cost us over £40 to get in (including tickets for the planetarium) and then on top of that we spent around £15 on lunch (some chicken nuggets and cold chips) – so we couldn’t help but feel slightly disappointed that we had to usher the kids away from several exhibits because they were broken or out of order. We didn’t feel that, on this occasion, we’d had our money's worth.
We’ll probably go for another afternoon out at Thinktank at some point, but I just hope all the broken stuff has been repaired and it’s had a little TLC by that time.
a. r.
Excellent fun and interactive pieces for all different ages. Not all of the exhibits were functional unfortunately but there was still plenty to look at. The new addition of a science garden since my last visit is a great idea
C. M.
I always love this place for kids as it is really interactive, especially kids town where children can dress up and pretend to be a dentist, waiter, greengrocer etc . The part about the body is also great. My 2 year old loved it. Being a teacher I have also taken primary aged children too in the past and they loved it. The only criticism really is that the cafe is very small and there is little choice. It is also worth looking out for discount tickets or it can work out a bit pricey.
C. J.
A good day out with the kids but I found it quite expensive... you pay for a ticket which is over £10 each and then if you want to go into the planetarium or have a Lego session you have to pay more. However I understand that there are deals for people if they go term time after 3pm... Only costs £3 which is a great offer if you can make it.
s. M.
Great space for families and there's a lot to do
J. M.
My son really enjoyed his day here, he loved the play area inside and out. He was 5 at the time so wasnt able to read and lost interest quick especially when displays weren't working. The reason iv knocked a star off is because of this. Apart from that it's a good full day out and will be bringing him back when hes older.
B. P.
Some really fun exhibitions for kids and adults alike! Very informative and interesting. Definetely one of the best museums I've been too in a while. Recommend going after 3pm on a weekday as only costs £3 to enter and you can still do the majority in 2 hours.
J. F.
Kids loved this place, highly recommend it. Staff are lovely, fun and educational place
M. K.
For the price of admission you would expect so much more. It still is a fun couple of hours for the kids but the best part is the planetarium and its charged extra on top of admission price. At least all the interactive exhibits should be maintained and that is not the case, many of them are not working.
J. A.
Great for kids plenty to do and the kids will deffo not get bord here fab day out
J. L.
Great day out with the kids. Very busy as it was half term, but very well organised. The food was surprisingly good and good value. Lots and lots to see. Mini brum was a highlight. Felt the planetarium could of been better
F. B.
Not overly impressed - friendly staff, but half the active exhibits didn't work properly, which is no good for educating the children when for example they carry out the vehicle electrical wiring puzzle correctly and it still doesn't give a result because the exhibit's electrical contacts are out of order. Plus many of the exhibits' instructions are a bit vague and also, no signage immediately outside to denote the entrance, it just says "Milennium Point". Probably fine for one familiar with the area!
A bit expensive and not well enough organised in my view, but the machinery collection is impressive!
S. D.
Visited with my family and grand daughter, the thought that has gone into this science museum is amazing. Cannot recommend it enough but, a number of the interactive displays weren't working and some of the staff were less than friendly. The cafe staff were just about tolerable although had little in the way of customer service skills, tables and public areas were not cleaned properly. It was a "that'll do" approach and detracted from teh excellent displays. The ticket purchasing was laborious and desperately needs some automated ticket machines, it would have been nice to see some staff on the floors to assist with understanding the displays. I appreciate that I sound negative but the things that rattled me are so easily fixed and would improve the experience immeasurably

Coming from the Netherlands, with an impressive (interactive) science museum like NEMO, I was left quite disappointed by Thinktank. It was hyped up to me as a fantastic day out with kids, but was left less than satisfied. We visited with two adults and two children (4 and 9).
Various of the interactive parts of the museum were broken or not functioning, but not labelled as such, leaving the kids confused - and at times a bit upset.
The outside science garden was very good, and both the kids and us adults had a lot of fun there. We also really enjoyed looking at the old machines and mechanisms.
We also spent a little bit of time in the play area, where the kids said they enjoyed themselves, and we both had a coffee (they didn't have any snacks on display at the time) which was very decent.
IN SHORT: would be a fantastic day out if the museum kept checks on all their exhibits, ensure to fix any faults in a timely manner, and label any faulty exhibits as such.

Went today with the kids. They loved it. The outdoor part is s big hit, if the weather is good then it'd be even better. I would put 5 stars but at £50 for a family of 5 ticket, it is a bit on the pricey side.

Excellent place for children, with many many educational activities. Will need to spend 3-5 hours to maximise what they have on offer. Parking is nearby at a reasonable cost. Recommended if you have young children, but also very suitable for teenagers.

It's on three floors with an outside area. Some of the exhibits didn't work. Very hands on which my eight year old son loved. Worth having a butchers, just don't lie awake at night thinking about it.

Great place to take the kids for educational visits & lots of different role play. Indoor and outdoor so weather isn't an issue. Science garden is great but could do with an update & some tlc. It's worth upgrading to an annual pass if you enjoy the day as cost of tickets is deducted. The Lego classes and the planetarium are fab. There's something for kids of all ages with different interests.

Something for all ages. Outside area fascinating for grandchildren and grandparents. Great play area for children. Plenty of toilets - very important! Suitable for adults as lots to see and do but equally interesting for children.

Took my three year old and spent most of the time in mini Brum which she really enjoyed. Plenty of play areas with opportunity for dressing up and role play that include street market, restaurant, supermarket, cafe, clinic, hairdresser, building site and garage workshop. Limited to under 8s so good for smaller children. Went into the Thinktank but numerous school groups made it very noisy and intimidating for young children.

The little science park outdoors makes a great left-energy-burner on the way out. You’ll need it if you have young children. Exhibits are generally dated but the animals bit is still great for facts and discovering new species and dinosaurs. Make sure you go to the top floor where Mini Brum is which is ideal for role-play. There’s a little self-service cafe on that floor with tables mostly available at anytime of the day.

Always good fun, interactive and engaging!

Went with the 3 grandchildren. After being there approx 2 hours noticed eldest phone missing, Spoke to a member of staff, SIMON, who instantly had it all in hand and within 5/10 mins the phone was found and returned to a very grateful teenager and grandmother, Thank you very much Simon for your kind assistance.
We did have a fantastic time there, so much so that they would like to return in the next school hols .

It's OK for little kids but as an adult, and I guess an older kid, actually looking to learn something, I found it disappointing. There's lots of different little things but no evident connection between them. Lots of the interactive displays are either too slow or difficult to understand. The science Garden is OK, but as I said, good for little kids. Also the planetarium was a bit disappointing, I was expecting to see constellations and galaxies but there was only an uninspired account of the moon missions that I could have watched on any TV. My 4 year old had fun, so I guess that's OK.

Great for visiting with primary and preteen children. All the science is presented in a fun and interactive way. As a family we have visited many times as there is always something different going on, from the theatre presentations, the science activities in the labs, hands on sessions in the galleries. The planetarium is small but the sessions are well put together and informative.

It was a good day out had a 5, 6 & 11 year old with us it would have been much improved if so many of the exhibits were working the children got excited when they saw the exhibitions then disappointed when they were not working, also the lifts or should I say lift having to queue sometimes for 10mins+ because we had the little one in her buggy. Some of the money that people are paying to get in should be spent on repairs!!!

What a gem! A fully interactive, fun science museum for kids and adults alike. Four floors of interesting exhibits, covering industry, engineering, science, and tech, and a cool science playground outside. Kids won't even know they're learning - they'll just think they're having fun! They offer cool workshops too for a small extra price.

Great place to spend the afternoon with kids. My daughter (1 yr) loved the indoor play areas, especially the water splash zone, so make sure you bring an extra change of clothes for the little ones. It was too cold to enjoy the outdoor area, but it looked lovely!

A fantastic indoor attraction for all the family. With each level dedicated to different themes, there plenty of interactive exhibits. Including an area for very young children.
This attraction is also suitable for couples and older families alike.

Love this place! Interactive and plenty to explore. We particularly liked the videos and joining in with some of the exercises. Definitely a family day out :) might be worth bringing own lunch or eating after. Didn't feel the quality of the meal was worth the cost.
Autism friendly, staff couldn't be more supportive. You can hire defenders and make use of a quiet room if needed.

Generally very good. Lots to see and good for the children. Some of the interactive exhibits need a bit of maintenance as they were broken. The outdoor play area was also good as it had a technology theme to it too.

Interesting place for kids with a lot of hands on stuff. However, not all the exhibits are suitable for younger kids, some are aimed at older children and some really only at adults. A little spoiled by several exhibits that didn't work, had poor signage or explanations as to what they are for (example, the shopping trolley) and others that are using really old computer programs with poor displays - one had crashed with a Windows NT message - I mean how old is that!!!. The planetarium solar system show was really disappointing. It was a 10 minute or so look at planets in the solar system; the graphics were uninspiring and the whole film very simplistic. Given that it is simplistic and perhaps aimed at much younger children there should be narration rather than text on the film - which of course means that parents have to read what is on screen. The Galileo show might be better but we didn't see that one. The Lego session was a little disappointing too - although it provides kids 45 minutes of time to build a Lego car there was very little input from the session leader. The outdoor science park was very good and had several interesting things to try. The cafe on level 0 is reasonably priced. Don't get me wrong - this is still an interesting place to visit but I think it needs updating and more rigorous inspection by staff to make sure that exhibits are working properly or marked as out of service.

Managed to spend a good couple of hours here one Saturday. Not as busy as we were expecting, which was nice. Our 5 year old found many of the exhibits fascinating... and so did we! Let down by the fact many of the interactive exhibits weren't working.

Visited during Oct half term and really didn't leave enough time for it, there was so much to see and do for our 8 year old. So why only three stars? As others have said, so many of the interactive exhibits were not working due to lack of maintenance our son became a bit frustrated. Given it wasn't the cheapest museum we had visited in the area, I would expect things like that to be sorted.

Not as good has I remember first time we went. Looking very worn and used, plus some of the interaction things didn't work. Additionally one of the lifts didn't work which was extremely annoying. Kids still enjoyed it though, and would want to go again. So I'm giving it a four from them. I would like to mention that the "quiet room" needs some serious work, especially for children with autism in mind.

Arrived late in the afternoon and got a heavily discounted ticket which enticed us in. Had an interesting but brief look around. Enough to satisfy our curiosity. A great place for families. Also of interest to older generation at quiet times.

Great science museum and plenty to do for children of all ages. Each of the floors are set out well with different themes; engineering, body, technology, space etc.
Cafes are OK and the garden is a wonderful place which is filled with more for children to play with and learn.
There is an optional planetarium with shows that are updated. Well worth the extra pound for the experience.
For younger children the pretend / dress up area is a time vacuum.

My 2 boys aged 5 and 3 loved it. He mini brum area was great and they loved the outdoor bits as well. The only draw back for us was that a number of displays weren't working properly or were damaged. If this had not been the case it would be a 5 star review without fail.

The think tank is a good museum. We have always had fun when going but honestly try and avoid the main holiday season as much as you can as it's one of only 4 major kid centered attractions. If your kid is under 12 they are going to love it and there is plenty of car parking that's quite cheap for the Centre of Birmingham as well.

Me and kids enjoyed our time there
It needs at least 5 hours to go through all sections

We went for a day out with our group for home educated children who have autism. Loved every minute and the staff were amazing! We even had VIP treatment from the CEO and head of security. Will definitely be returning in the future 😊❤

Grandkids , 11, 10 and 8 years old enjoyed it. Rail travel, the walk down to it is all part of the adventure. Mini - Brum was new to us and even the 11 year old found it interesting. The outside interactive area a real favorite. Some exhibits still not working since last years summer holidays but plenty of other things to see and do.
A good day out, spent between 4 and 5 hours there with each visit.

It was ridiculously busy during half term, so I would recommend a visit outside of school holidays to get the full benefit.
That being said, it was a wonderful experience for young and old alike!
A huge range of information to take in and play with.
Well worth it!

I've been here a couple of times, last before yesterday was years ago! And it hasn't changed. It's not cheap 1 adult, 1 child and access to planetarium just under 30£ and so many things were out dated, broken/missing or "being sorted". The planetarium had out dated graphics provided what I can only guess as a cheap company, I've made better renders myself. The seats had holes in and the screen had stains....no idea of what or how they got up there.
Kids do enjoy it don't get me wrong and the outside part was good fun, the parts that were working that is. Minibrum was good as well but can't validate the cost of entry. It needs a revamp and they should have the money to do so!
Staff were very friendly and helpful especially the lass making the curtain fort for the kids to play in in the minibrum area.
Typical UK attraction basically, gets built and left, becomes old but still charge top notch.

Came for fun and had a great time.

A great day out for the little ones!! My 5 and a half year old had an amazing day, and mini land was great, But the lack of water fountains/ facilities and lack of preparation during half term loses the fifth star.
