As I arrived there were gardens by the car park with plants good for dying wool. There was lots to see the museum with working machinery for preparing, spinning and weaving the wool. A nice selection of garments and other items made in the mill. Lots on the history and culture of the mill and Welsh garment making. Well worth a visit.

The museum was very interesting with lots of machinery and local history. We enjoyed seeing everything and had tea, coffee and wonderful cakes in the cafe afterwards. The museum shop had many colourful things to buy. The toilets were exceptionally clean and well looked after. Dogs are allowed in the grounds but not indoors. It is free to visit but you need to book your tickets online before you go.

Really great visit there. My first time but everything was so well explained, the displays understated but exact and with a wealth of history. Awesome to find out details of the local Women's Football team back in 1956. We are already planning our next visit.

No charge to enter but donations requested, £5 suggested and given. Tasty light lunch options (soup and panini enjoyed). Maps in multiple languages available (took the English one). On the upstairs floor, spoke with two women volunteers who had recently joined the museum and were 'in at the deep end' on a spinning demonstration. They explained the hand-process well and then compared with the 400-at-once spinning mule machinery. Back to the cafe for tea and cake before leaving for home.

Fascinating look at the wool industry in Wales with knowledgeable staff, excellent exhibits & working machinery. Suitable for adults and kids. There is also a Dye Garden with plants used to make natural dyes. Nice café & gift shop. The volunteer staff are really welcoming & helpful. Admission free, large free carpark.

I was expecting to be bored because I’m not a fan of wool, but it was really cool! I bought some scarfs. Don’t but them at the gift shop, go across the alley and buy them from the guys actually making them right there.

This was excellent, with much to interest and educate children as well as adults. It was great to see the machinery and the working factory. The café was excellent also, and the staff were great. We'll worth a visit, and although free to visit, a donation to help keep this place open could not be denied. Good free parking too.

A wonderful place to visit on a rainy day, very exciting for the geek in me - I knew that these machines existed but I had never seen them before and they still run them!!! They take you all the way from sheep to clothes and it's absolutely fascinating to see the machines up close and working! Ask in the museum shop and they will show you the cloth that they make on-site - it is so beautiful. And as a bonus they have free WiFi.

Such a wonderful museum! I learned a lot about the Welsh heritage of woollen mills and saw beautiful wool fabrics and designs. As we're still in lockdown, they have excellent social distancing measures in place and you have to book in advance. Everyone there was friendly and helpful. I'll definitely return again to see the Melin Teifi weavers at work!

Excellent small museum. Note as a national Welsh museum entrance is free. Does what it says. You can view the original machinery used to handle the raw wool all the way through to the weaving process. Very friendly and helpful staff. Great at answering your questions and explaining about the social life aspects of the woolen workers. They will also demonstrate working a loom etc.

Really friendly staff, all trying to get the machinery/industry up and running as it once was. Learning as much as they can from previously skilled workers once employed in this, or other traditional wool fabric manufacturing, before these skills are lost. From weavers to engineers, all skills required so get in touch if you can help. Great chance to see how these traditional fabrics were produced and how their quality was achieved. Fantastic visit, thought we may be there for an hour max, but spend a good free hours talking to the staff, watching as they demonstrated the machinery and traditional spinning wheel, then watched the guys working hard in a working mill next door. I had the best time today - truly a fascinating place and an insight into Welsh history as well as wool cloth-making. Everyone from the front desk to the cafe and the guides in the gallery and halls were excellent, welcoming and really informative. I was so pleased to speak to one staff member (sorry, I don't think I ever got your name!) who demonstrated all the weaving machines and answered all my excited questions with a depth of knowledge that was really impressive. The archive of fabrics upstairs was so impressive, and I really like seeing the curatorial elements of the museum gathering new collections and seeking knowledge from the community. I hope I have an inch of knowledge about Welsh wool after this and so many ideas for my tiny knitting projects. I can't wait for the courses to re-open, I'll be straight back to take a natural dyes course.

It does a pretty thorough job of gathering machinery, artifacts and oral history around the welsh wool trade, but to be totally honest, if it wasn't free and raining I don't know that I would have bothered. Some of the publicity touted working machinery, watching experts demonstrate actual use of them, or even hands-on usage of it yourself, but when we went there was no trace of anything like that. No staff except in the gift shop, nothing running, so basically just poorly lit rooms of old looms and such to amble round until the rain stopped

Great place to visit ...So steeped in local history ..See the Mill function as I weaves the local wool into cloth...Watch a video about life in the area for chidren of a bygone era...Eat delicous food in the cafe inside..Buy some lovely cards and presents... Attend workshops and events all year round...Disability friendly with accessable toilets and entrance..A magical place to visit...I have been several times and NEVER tire of the place ...A real Gem... It was a small but well planned museum. The staff there were amazingly helpful and were able to answer all my questions and give demonstrations. There were some interactive parts too to help you understand some of the processes. We also had a lovely lunch at the cafe. I would highly recommend a visit if you are a knitter or have an interest in textile crafts.

Very informative and highly recommended. Our tour was presented in Welsh (English given normally). The guide to us through every part of the preparation process, from preparing the wool, colours (some colour combinations are actually patented!), and finally the weaving. Fascinating information given, ending in the museum and shop. Wonderful goods in the shop, and a very good cafetiere.

What a smashing little museum this was. Tucked away in a little village the building and museum has kids of stuff to see. There are some hands-on exhibits that the charming and well-informed staff were more than happy to explain and demonstrate. The old machines (some running) were fascinating! They noise and smell really gave the place a sense of authenticity and we all genuinely learnt something new along the way. Highly recommended and FREE! Go and have a coffee and cake in the nice cafe to throw them some cash. Well worth a visit.

To be honest didn't have very high expectations but was very pleasantly surprised and spent a very interesting and enjoyable day there. Visited the museum with our grandchildren and it was educational for them. It is obvious the museum has gone out of it's way to make it a family friendly venue. Covering the weaving process from sheep to garment. The weaving machinery is impressive and there's a lot about the textiles too. Also covers the lives of the workers, inevitably sports and the positive impact of trades unions. Quite easy to find and plenty of parking. Allow a couple of hours to visit

The museum was fascinating and despite the coved rules that reduced the activity of some of the weavers. The machines were off but the staff on duty gave a very full explanation of the stages from fresh fleece to woven blankets. Hundreds of photos showed us what life was like from the early days, and samples of cloth and various fashion items including outfits by Mary Quant were on display. We finished off with a pot of tea and Welsh cakes in the cafe.

A great piece of Welsh history. Lots to do and see, plenty of interactive things for kids to do and get hands on, great if they have a school project!!! Location is easy to find and well sign posted, plenty of parking on site with all amenities such as toilets, cafe, and shop. Only criticism is that there should have been the option for a guided tour of some sort.

Great place to visit, very informative and a huge amount of local history. On some days the machinery can be seen in action as they still produce cloth on-site, some of which is used to make items to be sold in the gift shop. This is a place for adults and children alike, I guarantee that after a visit to this place you will have a whole new perspective of a wool garment and the amount of work and many different processes it has undergone since the sheep was wearing it. Incredibly entry to the museum is free!

Really lovely museum, our little ones (1 and 5) loved it. There's a kid's 'woolly trail' which encourages them to find out about different stages in the making process and to have a go at carding and spinning and stitching etc. My 5yo is really keen to take his woolly trail answer card in to show his teacher when he goes back to school. Staff were very friendly and helpful. My little boy was really pleased to encounter other Welsh speakers 'in the wild!' as he is only used to speaking Welsh at home and school/with school friends. The cafe is very nice, reasonably priced and had a gluten free cake option when we went and there's a nice children's play corner which was perfect for the little ones.

An interesting museum contained in the old woollen mill buildings. The displays are well laid out and information is given for all the stages of the wool processing and weaving. The staff were very knowledgeable and enthusiastic, answering all our questions during the visit.

Interesting insight into local history. All the original machinery is there and demonstrations take place. There are several chances to get hands on with the opportunity to work the wool yourself and dress up for the kids in traditional clothing! The pasties in the cafe were delicious too!!

If you want to learn about the history of woollen mills and wool in Wales this is a great place to visit, lots of machinery and tools to see in an actual mill that has been long since decommissioned. The mill has been updated and restored, there is a cafe and modern facilities. There is one area of the mill that is still in use and you can observe fabric being woven...its fascinating. Definitely worth a visit and it's free entry too.

As a national museum it was pretty disappointing that nothing was operational... There was a very very good storyteller but seemed to have little to do with the museum... I wouldn't go again unless we knew things were working... Cafe seemed to shut early too so no coffee either!

In the former Cambrian Mills this little museum gives an insight to the textile industry, from collecting the wool to finishing the material. On weekdays you can even watch the machines in action from a viewing gallery in one of the factory buildings. Worth a visit if you're looking for something to do and happen to be in the area. There is a cafe there as well if your looking for refreshment. Oh and it's free entry.

Great little place, really interesting, friendly staff and volunteers, and plenty of interesting information. We found out a little confusing at times, trying to make sure we had covered all of the areas, however there are maps around to help. Touchy-feely areas and activities to engage the children, whilst also being interesting for grown ups. We didn't stop in the café, however it looked like sensible prices and decent quality. And, of course, free.

Lovely visit. Be sure to try and catch a demonstration or tour. We went on the lovely circular walk around the village which takes about an hour and really emphasises the historical scale and importance of weaving in this community. The restaurant is great - the pasties in particular. Staff are fantastic.

A well presented working museum full of history of the woolen industry in it's time,ample space to walk around with exhibits of sound aswell The first floor gift and tea shop (with it's local wares) staffed by very nice people. in a separate building an elevated walkway looks down on working looms, a little noisy but well worth it Set as it is in Drefach Velindre surrounded by beautiful countryside and rivers a great place to come and experience..

The Wool Museum is a great place to visit. Of historic and industry interest to adults and great interactive stuff for children. I wish it was not called a museum - it is much more fun than that tag will make people think. We have a bed & breakfast and a holiday cottage close by and I always encourage people to visit. Brilliant museum of the production of woollen products. You can see all of the parts of a former woollen mill and each part of the process is clearly explained. Children can pick up a trail card and can have a go at some of the processes themselves as they progress round the trail, ultimately producing their own piece of yarn. There is also a very interesting collection of Welsh woollen products. The entrance is free and afterwards you can enjoy a nice cup of Welsh tea with bara brith or Welsh cakes. It's mainly indoors so perfect for a rainy day.

Museum illustrating the once-vast Welsh woollen industry that was centred at Drefach, and housed in one of the village's largest woollen mills. Much to see, although on this visit I just enjoyed a light lunch at the museum's café while travelling further west. The museum has plenty of parking, a well-stocked shop selling locally produced woollen items, and has much to interest visitors of all ages.

Top marks for this quaint, yet important museum highlighting the way of life of so many. It's all free entry too. Has a reasonably sized cafe, small shop and good parking. Ok, I have to declare an interest (I have a loom & weave, though not on this scale), but actually, the story of processing wool and the story of those involved was well set out in both Welsh and English. Sadly the machines were not being turned on to show them working and hear/feel the noise (my visit was Tues early Jan 23), so I'm not overly surprised, but there are plenty of information boards and videos to help tell the story. Check opening times (google etc) before you set off.. they don't open every day! The cafe serves basic but good food with some gluten free options. Space for a picnic outside in more clement weather. Except for guide dogs, dogs are not permitted inside the museum. Worth a return visit? Yes ... I definitely fancy another look.
