Reviews of Blaise Castle Estate
L.
Beautiful place to explore and enjoy next to very big play area for children. Some nice walk up to the castle. I really like the pathways beside the river! There is a nice cafe, good to have some snacks after a walk. Really recommend!!
B. V.
Beautiful place to have a proper walk with your kids. There are several tracks so you'll easily find your way up. There are fantastic views from the top and kids will enjoy the journey. Castle only opens the third Sunday of each month. Bring water and snacks as there is no shops up there.
G. C.
Absolutely brilliant. Great walk through the wooded area to find some caves. Kids absolutely loved the play areas, we had kids from 4 to 15 and there was areas that kept all ages playing. Will definitely be back.
L. I.
I don't think you will be disappointed with a visit here as it is just a beautiful place. It was free parking when I first visited months ago which was great (although I'm updating this now as visited a few weeks back and the parking meters are up and running again couple of £ for a couple of hours) huge fields for dogs to run on - they loved it too! and just a short walk from the car park there is a lovely little cafe serving food and drinks with indoor and outdoor seating. There are toilets which are also not far from the cafe. The grounds are really beautiful, I managed to walk around most of it, following the path takes you into a more wooded area which is pretty and shaded in the sunny weather. You will also come across the castle which looks like something out of a fairytale. This is definitely one of my go to happy places. The coffee is also delicious! The only thing I regret is not trying a bacon bap 😋

We usually come here for walks and dog walking.
The nature is beautiful and peaceful.
Sometimes we come to this park on Sundays for a picnic and to have dinner, tea or coffee.
But one night with friends we were there until late night and we saw the moon coming out.
A beautiful and relaxing scene.
T. P.
Brilliant place for everything really, some nice walks up to the castle or down the windy path to the river. Dog walking is endless fun, take my pooch up here and he always comes back tired.
Car parking is open from early morning, the time changes due to what time of year it is. There is a cafe, toilets, huge park, gardens run by volunteers and a museum. Also don’t miss checking out Blaise Hamlet just down the road. Quaint little house
L. H.
Fantastic place to explore. A firm favourite with my 6 year old. Great all year round but beautiful in the summer months
M. R.
Lovely place for a walk and to see a castle for free. Has a great play area younger and older kids and huge field to play sports on, run around or just have a picnic. The parking is free and the car park was full as we left, so make sure you get there early.
L. S.
Awesome swing in kids park. Nice to look at and the view of valley, but kids might whinge as you can only go into the castle on less than 2% of the days during the year
S. N.
Lovely park to walk around - cute castle and fun to see the sets that BBC is filming old (medieval?) stuff at! Mill was covered so the views of it weren’t as impressive.
R. P.
Haven't been here before. Visited with my daughter and her dog. Was lovely walking through the woods lovely and cool for the dog.
G. H.
This was a lovely location to go and visit. The free parking was nice (although that is changing from November 2021) and there is a place to buy hot drinks and food from. The adventure playground looks amazing. We went to try and find the castle but it was hard because of the poor signage. I think Bristol council could use the money they raise from car parking to build a better path and put a few more signs up. All in all, it was a lovely day to spend a morning.
S. W.
A wonderful place to visit all year round. Large play area for kids of all ages. A cafe,a museum and large green areas for dogs to run around in. Lovely Riverside walks through the woods with ponds for dogs to swim in. On top of the hill is a large green area by the castle for picnics. You can spend a good 3 - 4 hours there no problem.
R.
My 2 boys ( 16 & 14 ) and my daughter ( 12 ) loves coming here and when we visited at the start of the summer holidays they asked if we could make it a weekly thing, we pretty much have so far 🤣 That is because they never get bored like they do at some parks, you have the woods to explore and the castle itself to find within them as well as caves and other hidey holes. You also have the 2 parks which are both a good size and it caters for toddlers all the way up to teens and even some adults lol. There is also a museum which is free to visit and of course the vast amount of green space to play games or have picnics etc ( there are also a good amount of built in tables with benches for people to use. My only quarrel was paying £12 for ice creams from the ice cream van, I had already promised the kids before I got hit with the eye watering price and this isn't the fault of blaise Castle itself who are very deserving of 5 ⭐'s
C. D.
Adore this place! Have such a wonderful time every visit. The park is good, lots to do for all ages, the cafe is great and the staff are lovely. The toilets are very smelly and dated but can't complain for free use really. The stream is lovely, car park clean and tidy and also free, just an all round wonderful place to visit. Bring a picnic and you can spend the entire day there on good weather!
R. S.
Lovely day out with kids, so much to do you can stay for hours! Lots of play park equipment, a beautiful woods to explore and the castle was stunning. Amazing views from up at the castle too. We will definitely be going back!
N. K.
Fab day, make sure you take a picnic, blankets or chairs. Parking on site pay via an app.
R. W.
Great open space in Bristol. The play area for children is diverse and caters for a variety of ages. Lots of open green space for many to use along with walks in the woods to the tower at the top of the hill. You could take a walk down into the valley along the river/stream which many years ago we used to call the giants footprints. You now have to pay for the car park but it's free after 6pm.
A. S.
We visited the Blaise folly in July. It’s a good place for children and adults alike. They provide a map of the whole estate. The climb to the top of the hill was most exhilarating. The panoramic view from atop the hill is satisfying.
M. H.
Well, after 20 years I finally visited this fantastic local resource. There is a good car park and the obligatory cafe along with plenty of picnic benches.
The museum was boarded up but there were plenty of well signposted paths. We chose to walk down to Tarn Lake and it was beautiful, with quite spectacular scenery and wide, well tended paths.
The area seemed well used and you could easily spend the day there.
K. i.
A peace place with alot of history, incredible to take kids, family, a crush 😍 ...
Theres car park , accessibility, disabled car park
And much more.
Shops
Toilet
Cycle path
Kids playground
Museum
And the little amazing castle
N. N.
Fantastic for children, very nice swings and walking tracks. I wish Cafe did offer a better choice. Car park is big enough but a bit tight lined. A huge field if you want to kiting did not see the museum.
J. S.
Great estate, with woodland and river walks, Two kids parks, museum, toilets, cafe and parking (chargeable now)
S. B.
Outskirts of Bristol, great playground for the kids, huge, will play for hours, loads to climb, 2 zip lines, sand pits, refreshments and toilets onsite. (ice cream man is a bit pricey, thinks he's in West London) huge field, plenty of free parking, huge grounds to walk and explore, shops close by. My kids love it, often ask to go there to play.
P. B.
Some really nice walks (although knocked off a star due to pretty poor signposting) Castle itself has hugely restricted opening times but was a nice walk to get to it. Really great play areas and free public toilets, which is always a bonus with a wee one in tow.
L. J.
Excellent park with a number of different climbing frames and swings. Best I’ve seen. Cafe and lovely museum. Castle open today, we’ll worth trek uphill.
But disgusting toilets, worse I’ve experienced.
P.
Have always loved Blaise Castle since I was a child. It still holds many great memories for myself and my sister (both in our 50's now).
Plenty of open space for dog walking, good little cafe and great play area for children.
H. S.
I love coming here!
The park is split into two sections with a part for the younger children and a part for the older children and teenagers. My kids happily play in the sand in the young section and also on the slides in the older section. They are 7 & 5 but tbh there is so much more they can do as they grow. The ice-cream van sells phenomenal ice-cream, better then any beach. Although we had to wait for 1 hour to get to the front. The fields are full of people relaxing, having picnics and BBQs.
The only downside is the parking being so full and the toilets had no toilet paper or running water, really really gross. If they were kept clean they'd be nothing to criticise about the place. I'm looking forward to returning when the museum is open.
J.
The whole estate is great as its huge and beautiful.
I went round the museum which is free but donations recommended to keep it going. Some great household, kids toys and machinery from various eras on show, but some more information would be great, though there is some alr3ady there it just missed a couple of items I was interested in.
Blaise Castle is a great walk but with very steep hills (FYI not wheelchair or pushchair friendly). It is a good walk and a lovely little castle to see. Just wish there was more information about the place on boards etc as it really didn't say anything around it at all.
On the estate there's also woods, fields, cafe and toilets.
Fully recommend going!
M. J.
Great open space for a walk. Head up to the castle for a more vigorous walk through the woods. The museum is great and parking is free. Cafe and toilets on site. Lots of play areas for kids of all ages. Just as good on a winter's day as a summers day.
B. A.
Is a great place for all ages. There are 2 playground from the little once to teens and beautiful walk around. Parking is good when they open the over flaw parking.
M. D.
Great place for a mooch around in and out of the tree's, there's also a large kids play area and open grass field for the critters and pets to blow off some steam.
There's also free parking, a Café and public toilets all near-by.
D. V.
The most incredible place with multiple different routes and lovely views! Not many outside paths have signs so this could be improved but other than this great location with many dogs and scenarios! Highly recommend :)
S. W.
Lovely little walk through the woods to get here and a must to see if your in the area
J. W.
1st time to this location and was lucky with the weather. It was quite a steep, stoney climb up but well worth the views from the top. But would bot be accessible for wheelchair users. However at a lower level there is plenty of smooth paths with lovely parkland. Do take water as there is no were to get a drink at the top. Lots of people had brought picnics with them which I will do next time.
M. K.
A lovely area to walk the dogs, take the kids out to play and explore. Museum was closed today so walked through the woods and up to the castle which was very enjoyable. Not many rest spots, bins or sign posts so we got lost a few times. Cafe near the play area and carpark also public toilets available which seemed quite clean. Plenty of play things for young children and open space for running, ball games and picnics. Carpark a bit small for the amount of visitors, but it was free which was a bonus.
D. H.
Perfect setting for a winter walk but very muddy! Appropriate footwear would be prudent especially if heading towards the folly at the top of the hill. Also tends to get very busy at weekends and during holidays. Lovely refreshments at the cafe as always!
p.
Great place for a day out with the kids in Bristol. Amazing playgrounds and lovely museum (closed due to C-19), cafe, beautiful woodland/meadow walks, a brook to paddle in and even a folly. 5 hours of feeling free in the outdoors today was wonderful.
D. B.
Lovely expanse of parkland and woodland with enchanting stream. Suggested self guided walk (maps on line or from park office) are difficult to follow due to limited on site signage. On site date seems basic offering, with just a few flavours of panini and not much else ( no sandwiches, jacket potato etc). Free parking. Would go again (as visited as a non local on a day trip)
J. H.
Very cool place to visit. A short hike to the castle is definitely worth it. The walk was beautiful. There is a creek that leads to a nice little lake on the lower trail. Great place for a jog or to take your dog for a walk. About half way up the trail to the castle is a nice lookout point as well. I would definitely recommend a visit here anytime of year. Although it was cold in January which is to be expected. There is a really nice park for the kids.
M. B.
Brilliant place to relax alone, with friends and family. Romantic views for a couple. Wide space for grill, beautiful spots. Play ground, tennis tables, benches and toilets available (even during pandemic)
M. J.
First time visiting and was surprised how versatile the estate is in terms of things to do. There is a big playground for kids right next to the main entrance and car park, lots of green open space and plenty of concrete paths for easy nature walks. You can also go off the beaten path and walk alongside the stream, as pictured.
A. W.
Beautiful place for walks. It's a shame the castle isn't open very often. The café has a nice outdoor seating area and is decent enough for a quick bite to eat after a long stroll.
Drove past the car park entrance though as it's not very well signposted.
R. T.
I used it as a stopping off place on the way to somewhere else, it has lovely grounds and is easy to get around and plenty of parking. There are loos and a cafe and a big play area for children and a museum
A. P.
Parking was hard for disabled. Postcode not to right carpark. Grounds are beautiful. Park looks nice for children but too overcrowded with covid19.
The house was derelict with boards on windows such a shame. Never saw castle as we were too far away in the car park.
R. S.
So many bits to explore! Take wellies for younger children, so they can play in Combe Dingle and trainers for the play area. You're guaranteed to tire them out here with interesting hilly paths to play in on the way up to the castle.
Parking is free, there's a cafe to refuel in and plenty of places for picnicks.
S.
Amazing place to explore. We walked through streams and under bridges as well as exploring the woods. The cafe was nice for lunch and the parking is free. A great place to walk the dog or the kids. The massive play area is great for all ages too. Well worth a visit for a cheap or free day out.
A. T.
Large car park with cafe and toilets. Lovely walks. Can be a bit tricky walking through the woods up to the castle. That said, well worth it when you get there. Large children's play area and loads of space for ball games.
S. W.
A lovely place for walks and to spend a bit of time in nature. The water at the bottom of the gorge is pleasant and it is a perfect place to go with family and friends. Just be warned, the car park shuts at sun down and your vehicle could get locked in.
The whole area would be a lot more beautiful with there were not so many mindless fools around, chucking cans and disposable BBQ's off of the top of the cliffs. Be considerate. Take your trash home!
N. B.
Great place for a short walk, especially at this time of year. Good views from near the castle. Two playgrounds, one for under 6 and one for over 6. Large sand pit, swings, slides, zipwire, seesaws, rockers.
S. T.
Great kids playground. Massive open field for picnics/sports etc. Great for woodland walks up to the castle with fantastic views across the valley. Kids play areas get busy on sunny days and weekends.
J. H.
Great for children, coffee meets, history, running dog walking, picnic, easy or more complex walks. The scenery is beautiful
A. W.
Excellent outdoor area: big fields, interesting architecture on well kept grounds, very good walking opportunities in the woods.
There is also a large playground area, suitable for children and young-minded adults!
Toilets are on site as well as an affordable café.
C. N.
It's a delightful location with so many walks to follow. The castle is stunning. Such a shame access is restricted. The views from the castle are outstanding. There's a cafe near the car park serving absolutely delicious hot chocolate.
A. W.
Nice place to have a walk or picnic :) I'll be back there for sure.
J. L.
A beautiful walk, can't fault it, if you love nature this is definitely the place for you to visit. Take a picnic and make a day of it because the place is huge 🙂
C. C.
A good place to have a little time off. Nice playing fields. Good view and little off track trail as well if you are into that
S. a.
Nice walk to the castle, at first I couldn't find it as its behind trees, but the nice staff at the cafe helped with maps and tour guides. The castle was closed but could still take nice photos.
J. F.
Been to Blaise numerous times over all of the seasons now and I keep on finding new areas to explore! Forests, river, pond, meadowland, bike paths, something for everyone =)
K. W.
What an amazing place! 600 acres of doggy running heaven about 10 minutes off the M5.
You need sat nav and a bit of research to find it as there are no signs to lead you into it but it's very worth the effort.
Meadows, woods, rivers and ponds - all dog friendly. Parking is reasonably priced, decent little cafe for drinks and snacks and toilets on site.
Perfect stop off on a motorway trip, Buster lived it. We will be back next time we are in the area
J. G.
Fantastic place, the highlight was the dog poo bag on a branch and 2 masked hoodlums racing a motor bike across the grass, but, that is pretty standard now...
P. Y.
A dog (even a cat, ferret or hawk) may be useful but not obligatory to enjoy the miles of paths, some tarmac, others well trodden routes.
Enjoy the open areas with beautiful trees hiding lots of hidden gems.
Car parking is now paid. There are side streets but just be considerate.
H. P.
Awesome for a long walk, struggled to find the ruin at first but used maps to get there - look for some stony steps!
S. M.
Massive estate and really beautiful. Playground is great, nice cafe, the house and the folly (castle) are really interesting and the views from the folly are stunning. Needs better signposts, particularly to the folly and which paths are suitable for pushchairs/wheelchairs.
J. S.
Good fun, nice sunny day, played some catch. Big open fields, and a nice shaded walk down the main path along the river.
L.
Lovely woods, pretty castle, and great views! But confusing sign posts! We took quite the detour and only found our way with our phone apps.
R. S.
Lovely place, big open green space, woods, castle, cafe and great play parks. The public toilets are, well, to be expected (good if you're desperate). Made even better by the fact that entry is free!! Plus there was an ice cream van on-site due to it being a hot day. Great place for a bank holiday 😉
S. j.
The place itself is lovely in the sun and has beautiful sites. Its spacious and great for dog walkers or to go for a quiet walk. Was busy when we started to leave. Only let down was toilets had no toilet roll and was very badly kept and had no soap. Left just after that.
L. P.
Really nice walk thorough the trees to find the castle, great on a hot summers day as there's lots of shade! Something for all the family, nice museum in the old house and great play park for the kids! Great day trip out.
A. F.
Great place for a walk, good steep hills. Blaise castle is like a prize for reaching the top. Lots of happy doggos around.
E. B.
Lovely place to walk ,but got lost, would like few more signs up to show where castle is and routes there and back but brilliant place,
S. H.
Lovely place to walk your dog, lots of different routes to take and suitable to visit year round. Cafe and toilets available. Big play for kids too.
J. H.
Good, well kept outdoor space with river running through with accessible path and it's free. Cafe, toilets, play area and parking and the museum also.
P. H.
Great place, lots of things to keep the grandkids happy, play Park and lovely walks.
K. B.
Beautiful walks easy going to bit more strenuous to suit all
K. D.
It was an interesting visit. Bit of a hard push for voluntary donation as we came in - might want to look at that policy. Will come back and hopefully can give 5 stars
C. W.
The castle itself is a bit of a hike up the hill but the views are beautiful. Unfortunately the castle never seems to be open so far but maybe that will change in the summer, a sign says it is run by volunteers. Lots of dog walkers on the fields but also people playing football and kids running about. Cafe is fine, has ice creams, bacon sandwiches, coffees, keeps you going if you’re standing at the playgrounds watching your little person. Good selection of playgrounds, and separate for older kids which I particularly like so the teeny weenies don’t get squashed by the 12 year olds. There’s a large sandpit so bring your bucket and spade. Parking can be a bit tricky, there’s a big car park but a lot of visitors so walking there is good or getting there early usually means an easy parking experience. Overall a good free/cheap outdoor activity for a couple of hours. There is also a house and museum but I haven’t visited those yet!
A. M.
Lovely walk by a river. Free parking and entry. Cafe and toilets. Large children play area. Ok for dogs
V. W.
Lovely walks, huge playground, coffee shop, museum. Amazing place to go with your family or your dog
D. C.
Great place for the family. Lots of nice walks and sights to see. Great play area for the kids
A. C.
Nice place to walk. Castle itself is not a big attraction. Free parking and large ground for picnic. Large play area for children's and a cafe too.
P. T.
Quite a bizare looking folly castle built in the 1760's... Really nice surrounding views and walks in the park and woodland... however the museum is closed on mondays!
S. S.
Very much like a stereotypical castle. Very cute. Go see it!
D. B.
Amazing walks, beautiful scenery.
Hours worth of wandering with some really beautiful plants all around.
S. A.
Very nice area, clean&fresh air, crowded during weekends and bank holidays. But the landscape and views are totally worthy.
T. C.
Great day out and it's free! So much to do and so close to the centre of Bristol. It's great for children and man's best friend.
L. H.
Free parking, lovely long walks (if you want them) though the woods and very pretty following the Brook. Huge children's play area and wide open fields to play on, very dog friendly, actually struggling to find something wrong with this place for a day out for a walk, there is even a cafe for luxury hot chocolate for when the rain started. The castle itself is a folly and only open certain days but the views from the hill top made up for not being able to see inside the folly. We didn't go inside the museum so can't comment on that but just means we will be going back to have a look!
A. C. C.
Large open 'Green Space' with a museum of the Estate & a pleasent walk along a stream. Cafè was expensive & car park is Pay & Display
S. P.
Great open space. Take the kids, the dogs, old people. Anyone who likes fresh air and open space it's the place for you
i. f.
Lovely extensive grounds with a great variety of trees and woodlsnd terrains , worth taking the day to amble about with a picnic .
C.
We use this as a stopping point for the kids on our way to family. It's got toilets, a bit too pricey café and it's great for kids. There is a play area for young kids and older (up to 15). Massive green areas near the café so ball games can happen and they are dog friendly.
D. A.
Great walks, fun playgrounds and ample parking. Bring wellies on a wet day!
A. V. D. H.
Hi all
Just like to say a massive thank you to the 2 ladies of the cafe and lady called Susan and her daughter for helping me on Monday when I had a bad turn after long walk with out them I could have been verry different for me
AGAIN THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP
AD VAN DER HEIJDEN
K. A.
Lovely area and amazing park for kids of all ages. Nice walk to down by the river and shallow enough to walk in if it's hot.
I. A.
Lots of green areas to play on and plenty of scope to walk in the woods on hot days. And all free. Sign posts to go up to the castle could be a bit clearer and there were a few too many dogs not on their leads at times.
J. M.
A lovely place whether adults just going for a stroll, or familywanting play. Great to have loos and cafe. Big enough to lose a lot of people. Great place, free parking very much appreciated thank you.
S. W.
Great play areas for kids and plenty of open space to walk the dog. Cafe provides hot and cold food and drink and Blaise house is very interesting for the historians amongst you.
R. H.
Great place to bring your family including the dog. Loads of places to run around. Relaxing waterside walks, big open fields, reasonably price refreshments and toilets. Parking is no longer free on site. Zero litter, nice museum when it is open. Folly is open occasionally, but the times are not the same as for rest of the park. Apart from one road, you can walk to the neighbouring Kings Weston Estate which is about 1 hour away (cross country).
R. L.
Nice little walk to go on with a lovely view at the top. Something to do if you’re looking to be outdoors.
A. M.
Bit difficult to find the castle itself. Nice building. Lots of info explaining the history. Open sporadically it depends on volunteers. Fabulous play area though. Museum not open till April. Very busy. Squeezed a parking spot on the road.
H. J.
Nice little cafe. 'Castle' Looks a little shabby, shame about the graffiti on the front. Gardens are beautiful.
M.
Lovely place for a weekend walk with the family or a picnic. 2 playgrounds on the site, one for smaller one for bigger children. Ice-cream van almost always there, a nice cafe and free toilets.
P. G.
Blaise Castle Estate, Park and museum is a good family day out. Coffee shop on site down near the park and car park. Big open green area. Bring a picnic and a ball, but don't forget the sun cream.
C. G.
We booked a short walk hosted by three of the Blaise Museum team. Of the several routes available we went up to the castle and had the privilege of going inside and up to the top to admire the views. The team were friendly and very informative. Hope to book another walk.
O. w.
Amazing day out for the kids and adults alike.
From parks to stream walking. Took 4 kids only had to spend £20 on ice cream so cheap day and beautiful surroundings
m. w.
My daily dog walk includes taking in the castle ,kids just love walking the paths up to this folly
V. B.
Great family friendly place, kids loved the park and we loved the cafe
J. S.
Great place to visit and explore, beautiful grounds and fantastic play area for children. We visited yesterday and my daughter enjoyed some lovely homemade cake in the Plant Nursery area before we visited the museum and enjoyed some craft and a story session. This is one of our favourite places to visit in Bristol and I'd highly recommend!
Please note - Parking charges have recently been introduced so I would recommend taking £3 coins to cover a 5 hour stay as the machine doesn't accept card payments and requires people to pay over the phone or download an app which adds an extra transaction charge.
p. s.
Lovely area with beautiful park and plenty of room for dogs of all sizes
P. G. F.
Beautiful place and the staff from the café were really helpful. I support people with LD and sometimes they need time to choose, speak for themselves and pay, well, in so many places I've been rushed because of that, not here! Member from the staff helped us bringing the coffees and cake to the table, which it was lovely.
S. G.
good walk and a lovely time was had by us and the kids would go back
M. V.
Great family place to come, my grandson love all the rides in the play areas and cafe well stocked for the whole family to enjoy, friendly staff who answer any questions you may have.
C.
Blaise is a huge beautiful park where dogs are welcome. There're 2 playground, one for young and one for older kids. There's also a café. Walking through the park is a surprising experience as there's a part with woods and a stream forming like a little valley.
I. H.
Really nice place for a stroll. We stayed mostly to the tarmac path running along the gorge, but also ventured through the mud briefly to check out the front at the top. The free parking and public loos were also a bonus!
M. d. V.
Lovely place for a visit; great for a walk through the woods and/or a picnic. Some signage would be ideal, as it took several attempts to find the castle.

Such a beautiful park and fantastic play area. Convinient little cafe right next to it which serves the best hot chocolate on a cold autum day.
c. m.
Great playground for all aged children. Really nice café. Walks are nice, couldn't find the castle for a bit, it's not at the top of the hill as you might think.
G. A. P. (.
Quiet place you can truly enjoy without being disturbed by strange and freaky people !
J. K.
A lovely venue to walk or picnic. BBQs and dogs allowed too. Nice playground for the kids. Cafe to buy snacks and drinks. Parking is free and ample. I've been here a few times now and enjoy it every time. Concerts are often held here too
A. J.
Like a little rain forest plenty of places for all to enjoy go people get out of you house and go explore
S.
Really nice and well maintained grounds. Lovely walks and play area for the kids.
g. m.
Super time and place for family
M. W.
Lovely walks along the trails to the castle, can be a bit demanding, but all part of the fun of getting to the top and being greeted by a lovely price of history.
D. B.
Lovely walks and a house which is a museum, also a folly or castle on a hill ,cafe and large children's park, great place for a picnic
j. d.
Fab place for kids lots of activitys plenty of grounds to walk in and out of this world kids playground
C. R.
Lush picnic and a walk this morning. They opened up the overflow carpark for summer which is good too.
M. B.
Great playground suitable for all ages. Some nice walks with plenty of alternative routes offering great views of Bristol.
L. S.
Lovely place, ran by amazing volunteers. We really enjoyed it.
B. F. d. D.
Great place to visit! surrounded by nature and very quiet. I visited it in August and there weren´t many people. You can bring your own food and eat sitting in the garden surrounding the castle.
D. H.
Beautiful walk in the park with the added bonus of a wild flower garden when we arrived.
I. A.
Much better than expected. Was a very enjoyable time!
H. C.
So much to see, castle, beautiful gorge and river, woodlands, forts, georgian house, children's playground, Hansel and Gretel style house
l. m.
We loved it but so did everyone else. The car park was very full.
L. M.
This is a real gem of a place. Beautiful! Such changes in scenery as you explore and some lovely hidden gems to find along the way.
Great for picnics , for families, walkers, dog owners etc. The park was also very well equipped and maintained.
Returned here twice already because it really is quite a special little spot which is not too far away from the M4
S. H.
Really beautiful and great (but exhausting) walks along the river
E. K.
Beautiful walk next to a river and up the hill to the castle. Lots of green grass space for a pick nick and an amazing playground for children. There are some facilities on site but not nearly enough for the number of people this place attracts. Parking is generally easy to find. Overall a great place to visit!
k. n.
Lovely woodland walk and open green spaces, beautiful folly castle, operational miniature railway and park for kids, free clean toilets, a cafe and an ice-cream van.
S. S.
Love being here. The walls are brilliant, and during the summer months all of the nature comes out. No where quite like it in Bristol.
s. g.
Lovely place to visit. We visited as a break from driving on the motorway. Great gardens and play areas which look suitable for a variety of ages. Lovely path to walk on which wasn't too muddy. Bonus is that parking and the museum are free. We didn't visit the museum or cafe so can't comment on those.
Toilets could be cleaner which is the only reason I haven't given 5*
D. H.
Lovely park with loads of variety! Awesome views from the top, castle is a little underwhelming though. Top spot for a walk and a picnic
T. B.
Very nice and peaceful. Lots of interesting Nooks and Crannies to explore in the wooded area.
J. T.
Good place for families or dog walkers - plenty of different routes and paths available for all abilitities.
The onsite cafe is good food for the price and quick service. Free drinking water for dogs!
Free toilets by the cafe too.
Play are for kids of all ages and plenty of history to explore and local myths if that's what you're into.
W. S.
Went to the place a couple of times LOVE the park and the scenery, very nice place, love the massive towers and sand area, definitely recommend for younger and older kids!
C. I.
This parkland is very interesting. It has historic buildings, wooded and open areas, a small gorge with a stream running through and plenty of paths to connect them all. In good weather it is superb, but very popular with Bristol folk and can be very busy. The car park is often full, and the overflow car park can only be used in good conditions. People don't always park as well they should, unfortunately. Often there are dogs off the lead and not able to be controlled by their owners - runners have been bitten.
C. M.
Lovely place for a family picnic with a few benches available. Two good separate play parks, cafe and toilets. Great walks, and a beautiful stream.
Only criticism is that the house is unfortunately boarded up, so not able to visit.
S. L.
On a nice day, Blaise has it all plenty of space for walking, great playground, coffee shop and great ice cream.
M. M.
Brilliant place to walk your dogs. Lots of different paths some more difficult than others. Children can play in the play area or run around the woods. Nice small museum of how life was in "the big house".
J. S.
Lovely place to visit. If you are looking to visit the castle, take decent trainers or hiking boots.
Really could do with better signage on the trails. We got lost & only found our way by using our phone maps.
j.
Beautiful place to explore. Great for any mood too, you can stick to main paths or disappear into the woods and avoid people for hours! Cafe is great, am a bit disappointed they've stopped doing chips because they were the amongst the best chips in Bristol!
C. B.
The granddaughter really enjoyed the play areas. Did not get to see the buildings.
T. B.
Beautiful walks great for all activities
K. C.
Many places to explore. Great ice cream 😁, beautiful Park to explore and have a great time
R. T.
Lovely play area for kids and decent cafe
J. S.
Great fun had by all, lovely play area
j. b.
Great place to visit with children or a lovely walk.musuem interesting to visit as well
F. L.
Beautiful woods and a standard cafe.. the castle isn't massively interesting but the surrounding views are worth the visit. On a sunny day you'll be gleefully accompanied by dogs, children and their guardians. All in all a meaningful experience.
C. G.
Nice estate. We spent a lovely afternoon there with the children. There's so much to do: skating, running, climbing, slides, swings and a sandpit. Lovely coffee and plenty of parking spaces. You need to go there!
A. N.
This is in a beautiful park with plenty of picnic benches and toilets
E. T.
Beautiful area, the castle is a little bit hide, but is a nice spot. Also there are plenty of nature, where you can have a really good walk or there's a huge area to relax and do a picnic! We went from Bristol by bike, so it's a good route!
S. L.
Really nice grounds, yet to go inside the actual house.
R. L.
A great family day out. Park, picnic, ice-cream, a woods to run around in and the castle is open once a month to go inside, which is a real treat. Lots of wildlife and beautiful views
M. S.
Fab play area - suitable for a good age range eg 2 up to 15 years old.
T. b.
Great walks and open spaces for kids to run freely, also lovely walks along Hazel Brook.
M. M.
Fantastic kids park with lots of swings, slides, zip wire. Onsite cafe for a drink and snack. Beautiful open spaces for walking and mature woodland for a relaxing stroll by the stream.
J. R.
A beautiful park with plenty of choice for everyone one.
k. w.
Nice, but a bit muddy and very crowded on Sunday afternoon,
A. D.
Great place to take the kids walk the dog and have a picnic. At times there are functions there but the place is big enough and accommodating enough to not feel claustrophobic. The amenities and cafe there are great so to give the kids a nice treat and a pleasant cup of coffee for yourself.
V. P.
Nice place , with nice view but there are no signs to guide you to get to the castle from the car park
D. W.
It's up there amongst the very best castle estates in Bristol.
Castle? Tick!
Blaising? Tick!
Estatey? Tick!
Great playgrounds, it has to be said. Not the first thing I look for in a castle estate, but they're there. For that I'm grateful.
One minor negative is that it's quite muddy. If they could do something about that (maybe make more of the land get inside buildings?) I'd give it five stars. Get rid of some of that nasty grassy stuff and put some concrete shelters up.
You're welcome.
Goodbye.
M. D.
Such a beautiful and well maintained spot. Just on our doorstep. Very popular. I love the trails through wooded areas, the folly, the views, the museum (when open). Good play area (when not socially distanced) and well run cafe. This is somewhere to be treasured. Never forget taking my, then, very young kids and walking them up the hill to see the 'castle'. A little way from the tree line, a row of Sealed Knot blokes marched out with pikes levelled at us. Scared the kids to death. Must say, I was taken aback. But it just adds to the excellent atmosphere in Blaise. Visits really recommended.
T. D.
Love this place! Amazing kids play areas, one for younger with sandpit and one for older with massive climbing tower. Great little cafe and free public toilets. Huge open green area for dogs and picnics. Highly recommend.
Please hit like, if this review has been useful.
F. L.
Amazing area with lovely walks and lots of history
L. J.
A lovely place to explore and find all these waterfalls
s. W.
Blaise has always been a lovely place to walk through woods - some steep tracks. Can get very muddy. The Council need to do more to protect what's left of the stone statues or remove them to safety. And open up the house again to visitors. Too much vandalism has ruined parts of the house and grounds. The Council only seem to be interested in the cafe and building stupidly huge carparks over the flat green spaces.
K. D.
Lovely place for kids and parents to enjoy 😉
M. B.
Fascinating historically and if you like wandering around historical buildings.
N. M.
Nice chai latte in the café, clean and litter free thankfully.
A. F.
Lovely nature walk. Limited parking space, crowded on weekends but it is worth a visit. Limited for wheelchairs users and baby buggies as at some point, the concrete path turns into a 'dirt track'. Good for dogs though. The actual castle is only small but cute.
D. K.
My local stomping ground for me and the dog. Been local and coming here pretty much twice a day for 2 years and still the highlight of the day. So many paths to choose from and with the changing seasons there's always sowmthing different to see. Cafe is great and park incredible for the kids young and old and an interesting museum where you can delve into the history of it all. Either head down to tarn Lake or up to the summer house castle or both! and just enjoy the amazing sights.
L. D.
Beautiful place for a small walk and a sunny day out
J. H.
Just a monument really. Open to see inside infrequently. Nice view of Westbury
K. R.
Great day out. Fab parks and nice walks. Theres a little cafe which is ok, but doesnt offer much seating. Toilets here are awful! Never any loo roll and are very smelly! Lets the whole place down.
K. W.
Meander up the slopes to find the Secluded castle/Fort ok a peak in the forest.
S. K.
Lovely, interesting walks with some fab views. Great, enclosed play area for the kids. Dogs welcome. Cafe, toilets & plenty of parking. More picnic tables would be helpful, was glad I had picnic rug! Couldn't ask for more as it was a completely free day out, if we hadn't had ice creams that is!
F. W.
Huge wonderful green space to enjoy walking, with or without the dog. There is a super play park with slides roundabouts, swings for young and old. I was there today with my daughter and her friend. A couple of the slides were being refurbished, the park was virtually empty, although cold we had the run of the place and had a really good time. There is a café but it was shut today (perhaps for winter), there's also an outside table tennis table. In the summer it's normally packed, although we have always been able to park. Highly recommended 👍🙂
C. E.
Lovely park and woodland cafe and house museum
s. m.
Many walks to be had at Blaise Castle. Walks to the castle itself, down to the water by the mill or even a long walk to Kingsweston House. Oliver our Chocolate Labrador loves it.
N. S.
Great place to enjoy a picnic with the family! Parking is hard but not too bad £3 for 5 hours!
C. B.
Went for a walk with the dog and had a coffee nice grounds and access to a river for the dog good times
S. O.
Great place for walking, a picnic and exercise. Great play area for kids, cafe & toilets. Car parking available including overflow area in busy periods. Walks available on the flat or over hills, by a stream, a old castellated building, wooded areas and on grass, wild areas and managed areas and some great views. Something for all really.
D. G.
Very nice views, great afternoon walk, dogs also allowed
K. B.
Great place to spend a day with the grandkids.
Woods...a castle (of sorts !), a stream to play in, lovely walks, a massive open space, a cracking play area, toilets and a cafe.
And it's free to get in !!
Highly recommended.
J. B.
Some really love walks through the woodland up to a small castle. There is plenty of room for picnics and a huge play park for the kids and best thing is parking is free! Coffee shop and toilets are also available here.
J. B.
Probably one of the best places to walk in Bristol. Fascinating scenery, and terrain for everyone. Looking forward to seeing the cafe open again and a look around the manor
J. 1.
Amazing place for the kids and to keep fit lovely wooded area, river and footpaths, old mill, castle and museum
J. R.
Beautiful place,lovely walks,lovely wild flowers
L. S.
Walking around the stream is quite nice. It's not deep so suitable for children to splash about.
R. l.
Tranquilizing In good sense! Great family place and a quality kids palygrounds.
Though, pity that there's so limited parking space for such large park and that the toilets are closing so early.
H. H.
Great outdoor space with plenty of interest. A shame gothic Castle, Georgian House is the museum, unfortunately closed at the time of our visit. Plenty of parking, toilets, cafe and a children's playground.
I. c.
Nice little castle, bit of a pain to find it to start with. Shame we couldn't go inside when we were there.
B. P.
Good place to take the kids with lots of variety in the playground. Estate is extensive, walk up to castle across friend and through woods is scenic. There's a nice walk down to the river. Can get muddy during winter and packed during the summer, particular round the cafe.
V. &. S. W.
Two large playgrounds (one for older and one for younger kids), lots of green space as well as woods and a stream. Everything you could want, and definitely more than can be explored in just one visit! It's a regular haunt for us.
L. G.
This place is very much worth a visit! Great for a walk, hike and lots of pictures, the castle looks unique!
A. G.
I've been wanting to go back to Blaize Castle Estate on thing was within an hour of us turning up it absolutely poured down. Other that the estate was beautiful and I was dying to go through the woodlands with the streams nearby as its so beautiful and picturesque when we went 2 years ago I got to go through the woods and me and my granddaughter sat on a rock by a stream and soaked our feet in the pool there. We'll definitely be there again and hopefully stay longer though
S. D.
Really lovely place to visit and walk. Great walks upto the 'castle' and down into the valley. Plenty of parking at either end. Great kids park at blaise with loads to do. Could do with a clean up in the winter though. Cafe is lovely and staff always helpful
g. h.
Lovely place to take the family, free to enter the house and see what it was like back in the days.
Even the grounds is a very nice walk, take the dog's for a great walk, walk in the woods and your find 2 fantastic old buildings.
Plenty of parking , disabled parking space as well.
S. B.
Amazing place for all ages and dogs. Brilliant!!!!!
K. A.
Hidden away and so beautiful to find. Part of my running route and I love it
E. R.
Just a warning to all you castle fans: it's a folly! Despite such an egregiously erroneous claim, the Blaise castle estate is actually a jolly nice place. There's a cafe, a very good playground, and of course the grounds are a delight to walk around. The stately home bit is alright too, plenty of old stuff to look at and toys for children to play with.
M. C.
Blaise castle hard many wonderful walks for any ability level. The parking is free and there is a cafe with a toilet. The grounds are stunning and the views from Gorams start are beautiful.
S. G.
Lovely for a walk with dogs or a day out with the family or just a nice place for a walk. Playground is excellent and well maintained without litter everywhere. Sections for younger and older children that are both dog free.
Stream for paddling (can be a little difficult for younger children to get to) and a place to cool off for dogs.
Cafe can be little expensive, but has lots of tasty treats. Toilets and baby changing facilities.
L. J.
Wild flowers rear of castle
M. P.
Great place to take the kids. Nice park with enough facilities for kids of all ages.
m. r.
Loads of space for football, walking in woods, splashing in streams. Play park for different age groups. Cafe and toilets!!!!!! Ice cream van extremely reasonable.
Take a picnic and stay all day.
D.
Great place to visit, loads of walks and space for picnics. The children's play area is brilliant and suits all ages. Plenty of parking.
S. H.
Very busy no where to park ,got very muddy walking the dog's
A. W.
Great area to walk the dog and a drink and snap in the café.
J. C.
Good place for walking with the dogs and a decent coffee to follow.
L. D.
Beautiful place to visit. Highly recommend, just a lot of hills.
T. W.
Plenty of space for dogs to run freely whilst exploring the stream, woods and the hidden cave, lots of pathways leading to different places, plenty of adventures for the children.
Coffee shop and ice cream van nearby in case you need refreshments, would definitely go again.
C. R.
Great day out in aid of Prostate cancer.
2,5,or 10 kilometer walk.Come and join us next time.
N. T.
Great play area and cafe. We also went on a lovely walk through the gorge...free parking too!
U. A.
Love this nature walk so vast and beautiaful
L. C.
Trails not very well marked, but great for dogs, kids.
T. A.
Its a beautiful place to walk. Cafe is great, lots of diffirent drinks, snacks and some hot foods on option but when its busy then sitting out side is an issue which its understandable. Toilets facilities avaliable included baby change and yes play areas are great for kids.
D. A.
Great place for a day out or just for a walk.
R. Q.
It's a place to relax, exercise and hang out to friends and family💕
l.
Only come here for the kids play area. I haven't personally checked myself, but on the surface, I'd say 90-100% of the amenities are in really good condition. There's also a little coffee shop, serving the usual overpriced beverages. The food menu is also pretty extensive, good range of hot and cold food. Car park is massive, you'll have no issue getting a spot even on a busy day for example during school holidays.
3. M.
Great if you enjoy potentially having your foot run over by an out of control child on a push bike. Or having wet sand thrown at you by someones lovely little darling 10 year old in the sand pit thats designed for toddlers. Or if you like a stroll down the woodland path its great. Beautiful trees and scenery, perfect for a dog walk however just watch out for the barrage of cyclists and again rouge out of control children on wheeled devices.
J.
One of the best parks in Bristol, lovely walks and masses of green with a kids play area and cafe too
C. B.
Great little place to get out of the city. Nice walks around the castle itself by the stream or in the woods. Parking is free which is just amazing and adds to pleasant experience. Please note that there is a big playground by the main car park and kids are extremely loud so need to walk on the other side of the castle to enjoy it.
R. H.
A really lovely park with a castle from the 1700s at the top. The museum is not open in winter (opens in april) and the castle is rarely open (every 3rd sat for a couple of hrs). The park land is nice and there are some good views from the top of the hill. The wood was also nice to walk through.
Great play areas for children and it is free including free parking although this is limited in the main carpark.
C. Y.
Excellent play equipment for children of all ages and lovely walks, both up to the folly and down to the river. Plenty of space for picnics and ball games and general family fun. Car park can be tough to park in when the overflow isn't open.
K. W.
One of the most beautiful parks in Bristol. Perfect for kids and dog lovers. Many different routes with green, big, old trees and clean ponds. Highly recommended for everyone who wants to be close with mother nature 💗
I. e.
It's very gorgeous on a cold winters day. It's not raining, it's very sunny. It's a lovely place to go out on a nice day. Make sure to layer up with coats and scarves if it's cold. They have a wonderful cafe which sells food and drinks of all sorts!
S. B.
Lovely walk and views plenty of space x2 parks gets crowed when weather is good.
Has toilets ice cream van and a small cafe selling hot food quick fast food always a long que
L. G.
The grounds are beautiful and hold many wonderful walks. My kids love the folly. The parks are awesome and the cafe is convenient. Dropped one star as the toilets are always disgustingly dirty and parking isn't easy as always very busy.
J. K.
Nice open park, well maintained children's adventure playground, with a separate enclosure for very small children. Rubberised flooring in the play areas, even though it's outdoors.
Clean and tidy throughout. Wheelchair accessible toilets.
A thoroughly pleasant place to take children on a sunny day.
J.
Great for toddlers and young kids, dogs and walkers.
Big open grassed areas, a museum of the estate and beautiful wooded walks along the river. Big and age appropriate play areas for toddlers upwards including huge sand play area. Cafe that does basic hot food and toilet facilities are ok.
C. W.
Have been coming to Blaise castle since i was small and now i bring my children here! Great woods to explore, the museum to take you back in time, the castle (If you can find it!), paddling in the stream down by the mill, cafe and toilet facilities, a fab play park for smaller & bigger kids, ample parking too. Great for walks with the family.
P. Y.
Excellent place to visit. You can spend hours there. ..take a picnic or visit the cafe. There are two very good children's Play areas, one for smaller children and one for older ones.
The grounds are huge with several walks through the woods. There is a folly at the top of a hill and a great view.
Not least is the house itself ( check for opening times)
This is all free to enter so fantastic place for adults and children for a lovely day out.
M. T.
The place are beautiful, but the castle unfortunately wasn't open.
L. A.
Great open space for dog walking and the castle view is a sight to behold. The cafe seems poorly managed with a 20 minute wait for a takeaway coffee which I declined. The museum was boarded up which I hope isn’t a permanent feature as it’s a beautiful estate.
A. M.
Steep walk to the top for great views of the castle, not wheel chair or pram accessible though.
L. G.
Nice for walking and good views
C. M.
What a great place to have in North Bristol shame BCC have introduced parking charges
n. a.
Free parking (but can get busy), great walks, cafe, toilets play parks, wide open space, house and gardens. One of our favourite places in Bristol. I dropped one star purely because the car park needs to be bigger.
C. C.
A great place to spend a day out.
S. L.
The kids took their scooters, and we walked from the main car park all the way to Coombe Dingle car park, and back again. We stopped several times so they could play and explore, met quite a lot of people walking dogs, and saw a few birds and squirrels.
Then they played in the park on the equipment while I sat outside the cafe and had a cup of tea. The cafe sells reasonably priced food and drinks, and there are public toilets here too.
There's plenty to see and do here all year round, lots of woods and paths to follow, a tower hidden away but on the high point, with an amazing view over the gorge below. The grassy area is huge, with plenty of space to exercise dogs, play football, and have a picnic in warm weather. You could spend all day here, and the car park is free.
E. S.
Beautiful walks and an amazing place to simply chill out..
R. C.
The castle is really lovely that sits up a top a hill giving a great view of Bristol.
The surrounding walks go along a small river, fields and Woodlands.
Has a lovely restaurant next to a play area for kids so you can relax while kids are playing only a few metres away.
S. S.
Nice park with a massive forest to travel through. Quite scenic however the confusing layout of the forest and lack of maps or signs made it impossible to give a full 5 stars. The park itself is quite large with good areas for both adults and kids
A. P.
Beautiful and great play park 👏
S. P.
A nice place to go for a walk, and with a really good children's play park. The play park is broken up into separate sections allowing children of different ages to play more safely.
The car park is free to use, but can be very busy at times.
O. S.
Well maintained, nice castle on the hill. Nice playground. Nice paths.
O. T.
Stunning place to spend your day!
I will never give it five stars, purely because the toilets are always dirty, you can smell the stench even before going in. This hasn't change over the years.
l. k.
This place is fantastic in the summer months. Plenty of fields to have picnics and bbq in. Lovely walks to take down by the river or up to the castle, along the way many of natures natural beautiful sites to see. They also have a museum that have plenty to do and things to see. There is also a small cafe where u can grab a coffee or food but can be expensive... and get very busy in the summer months...
J.
Plenty to do for all the family including 2 play parks one for young children including sand area, another for older children with climbing equipment , slides and zip wires.
There are big open grass areas, a cafe, woodland walks, a walk along by the stream. The house / museum has specific opening times.
Plenty of parking but limited disabled parking
s. e.
I have lived in this area for a long while, I was surprised that I had never heard of this gem. Although the house itself would benefit to become a more prominent feature in the park, it served a wonderful and free purpose, staff were very friendly. People of all ages will find something to see. I came here for photography of the park as I am a nature lover, I was pleasantly surprised to find so much more . The walk around the estate is pleasant and easy under foot as there is a path through the Gorge. I found it relatively easy to walk upstream by the river on the other side too, though I do not recommend the latter walk for people with disabilities, either walk is equally enjoyable though. There is a small cafe and a children's play area and dogs are allowed .
All I can say is please visit this place, I can imagine it to be wonderful at any time of the year. Hopefully the old watermill will get restored in time. It would really add yet another dimension to this place. It is wonderful for its nature and wonderful for buildings. I most certainly will visit many more times.
D. D. C.
Lovely big grounds with great history, landscape and sight seeing. Good for a family walk up to the old castle (opened by volunteers on some days) large musuem with Victorian school room. Two big parks with plenty of activities for the kids
A. G.
I really want to give more stars but I can't- because there is no way for wheelchair users to even SEE the castle, let alone go near it. Now don't get me wrong, the setting is lovely. There is a paved trail on the left hand side that powerchairs can easily maneuver, so if you like nature trails it's fantastic. You can see the old boarded-up cottage (which I really do think should be restored and have windows to look through) and the castle-style house that someone is lucky enough to live in (so jealous!), and at the main entrance there's a flat grassy area with a bit of shade, perfect for a picnic.
And there's the manor house with a museum that I would've liked to explore, except we didn't have time.
However there aren't any clear directions to the old castle itself, and there's not a paved trail there - WHY ?!
My partner was able to hike to it, whilst I waited below and had to inform pretty much every other visitor that the castle was indeed up the hill, and that there wasn't a path for them to follow. There needs to be some signage at least.
I'd go back again if in the area to have a picnic and check out the museum. If you're able bodied and enjoy nature I highly recommend going. Just steer clear of the playground and all the people smoking next to it. Not very pleasant.
The toilets deserve zero stars. They are filthy. The one accessible toilet is open, they need to install a radar key lock because EVERYONE was using that one, despite there being plenty of stalls in the regular toilets. It was filthy and that's not fair to people who have no choice but to use that one. Try and use the toilet elsewhere.
C. K.
Lovely garden and park area with a little cafe.
The grounds are large and worth wandering around.
Wasn't that enthralled with the "museum", but it is free (donations appreciated) and a nice part of a day out for some quiet and indoor time.
A. I.
I love walking the dog here as water, trees and fields. Can safely let off he lead, no rubbish and never met any aggresive dogs. Beautiful and relaxing place with a cafe and a good play area for children.
S. B.
I really liked the view of little balcony bit but the castle is shut so I had to put 3 stars I recommend to open the castle more
C.
Great place for young kids and older kids and free to enter. Has parking and allows you to barbeque fields to play ball games and spend part of your day on a short hike up the hill to see the castle. Has toilets, food outlets including ice cream and coffee shop.
P. H.
Lovely historic estate owned by Bristol City Council and open to the public. Probably about the same size as Durdham Downs, "the Downs" to most of us but arguably more interesting. Wide open spaces, and old underused grand house with stables and woodland walks by the stream. Ideal for the whole family and there are no cars, and no worries.
Some might wish to put the great house to better use, as it does no one any good, just standing there.
M. S.
Good for walking. Play area for all ages and a very good musium
B. B.
Well signposted with friendly and knowledgeable. The grounds are superb with easy routes for bikes, pushchair and wheelchairs. The children loved the play areas. Would love to see some fun interaction with the walkways for the children though.
A. S.
It is a great place to take your children or in my case grandchildren to run about and play. The car park is free ! it must be one of the few in the country to be so; so it pays to get there early. There is also a enclosed play area for the wee one's and close by is a outside eating area were one can purchase all the usual fare.
P. W.
I've lived near here all my life were very lucky to have this place to go. Coffee shop and toilets amazing play area museum and woods to walk through and castle ect.. great place to go for a family day out.
S. 6.
Nice wide paths. Suitable for pushchairs
H. P.
Great open space for dogs and children to run around. Lovely walks through the woodland and big children's play area and cafe. Also there is the Blaise museum to visit.
J. B.
Brilliant grounds. With loads to explore. Great adventure playground. We went on an annual fairy for hunt that was good for early school age children. On sunny days and events parking can be a problem with a one in, one out situation and patrons waiting in the road that feeds the entrance causing tail backs
A. R.
Great place to go for a walk, whether you fancy going up to the folly, along the stream or through the woods. The folly is open every once in a while, but haven't made it inside yet. The house has a little museum which is worth a quick visit. There's also a pretty decent playground for the kids.
J. D.
Great to revisit this beautiful park, lots to do from zoned play park areas for kids, museum, a castle folly and some good walks for all. The car park was and still is free!
N. M.
Autumnal walks through the estate are a must. Beautiful.
C. M.
Perfect for all little adventurers, something there for all ages with different age ability zones within gated areas, also has a great open space for your four legged friend to run free, unfortunately blaise castle has been boarded up due to the present situation and to deter vandles.
This time of year(winter) is definitely a welly/walking boot as it is popular places can get a bit squelchy. There is an on site shop where you can grab a warm drink and when visited the toilets were clean and tidy.
Parking is limited to how popular this place can be...so may have to be patient on the busier days.
Just a thought but if the bins are full....maybe just hold on to those cups or crisp wrappers to keep the site clean and tidy for all visitors as services are stretched in these times.
A. P.
Our favourite place to stroll. Say no more.
N. M.
Lovely little climb up to the castle! Nice view.
M. O.
Lovely open area woods and parkland with a great variety of walks very dog friendly the old manor house is a museum and the castle is a folly at the highest point of the grounds, cafe and children's playground. Parking is free.
A. M.
Great place to stop over on way to Devon and Cornwall. Large play area for children of all ages. Decent little cafe. Free toilets and lots of grass and woods to run around in.
A. W.
Big open space with free parking and loads to explore.
D. C.
great place to go for walk with the little one, great views, 2 small caves and a castle!
S. D.
Use site for dog walking.
Many dogs walked here and lots not controlled on leads.
Lots of rubbish around site if the day has been a warm one but generally cleared by start of next day.
The grass area is well kept unsure about woods as do not adventure into here.
C. J.
It's a very worthwhile park with lots of good walks in the wooded area. Nice large grass area for picnics with a car park & cafe.
C. C.
Lovely place but best to go early to avoid pushy parents who seem to think they are the only ones who can use the foot paths. If you are thinking of taking a dog please be aware that there have been some illnesses & even a death among dogs who recently visited Blaise (June 2019). Keep dogs out of any water pending outcome of council investigation.
A. P.
Really lovely place. We'll kept and popular. Persevere with parking, they open up a grass area when busy.
Play areas for kids of all ages are fantastic and again well maintained.
Couldn't fault this place at all.
S.
Nice for a casual walk. A lot of dog walkers and quite a few bikes too. Can get a lil cramped on walking paths
m. k.
Great place for walking in the woods or river. Great views, nice museum, great play area, cafe and public toilets. Simple fun for the whole family, feels like I've been coming here all my life. 👍
T. B.
To be very honest the castle itself is not that interesting its normally locked so you can't go inside! But the surrounding area is beautiful, it's a lovely walk all through the woods, a great area for dog walkers!
M. D.
Leisurely walk, minor hikes, look-outs, relaxing sound of running water.
J. W.
Spent all day the other week and it's amazing loads of space to sit and the play area is brilliant for all ages really lovely day out would definitely recommend
J. M.
Peaceful, full of trees and step back in time place to unwind and breathe fresh air. Free parking will be soon charged for sadly. If I only have 15 mins before work I come here to recharge my batteries among mature trees and open space. Or I spend longer to run or walk around the many walks. It's free to enter and the council workers do an amazing job picking up litter daily so it looks pristine. Thank you Bristol council for preserving places like this. They're priceless. Cafe and ice-cream truck usually open. Toilets could be cleaner but at least it has toilets.
E. E. T.
A beautiful esyate and park. The childrens play areas are wonderful. 1 is for smaller children and the other is for bigger kids. The museum is a great place to visit and the walk through to Blaise castle estate is a must do activity. Fun for all.
P. S.
A lovely large green area great for walks and ideal place to bring the dog. Nice Café for a refreshing drink and bite after the walk.
K. A.
Perfect for a hot day. They have a huge park/playground for kids and toddlers, toilets and a nice cafe near the entrance of the car park, making it easily accessible for families or people with young children. There are lovely scenic views in and around Blaise Castle, whether you're looking for a more peaceful look at the historical & artistry part of Blaise Castle, or enjoying the outdoors with lots of nature paths and trees on the site, great for nice calming walks for adults or for the family to explore (e.g. climb trees). And its perfectly free! Loads of clear open space to take in the sun.
B. T.
The perfect place to walk the dog lovely greens and amazing walks through the woods
There is all types of terrain and easy access free car park with disabled ♿ person parking 🅿
Loads of wildlife
The down side is it can get very busy but it's a really nice place
Give it a go
J. L.
very crowded, some families, seem not to have any respect, for single or two people walking, and allowing room to social distance . also great time for runners, with crowds of walkers. the dogs enjoyed wdlk ,
C. K.
Brilliant grounds for epic long dog walks, for picnics, for huge kids play areas. Has it all fields, woods, stream, dog swimming lake, cafe, loads of parking. Try starting the walk from the wonderful sounding Dingle Dell end if you havnt been before.
D. C.
Great place to visit with plenty of green space and trails to walk. There is also a cafe and a museum. Parking is free but can fill up quickly at peak times.
A. G.
I hadn't been to Blaise Castle for over 10 years and was pleasantly surprised at how much of the grounds is unchanged in all that time. The folly was looking resplendent, and the robber's cave brought a chill down my spine. Birds of prey sitting in the trees as you follow the well kept paths through the woodland. Scenic bridges over the river in the valley, and the old water mill moved to the estate is the 1950s. The playground has an incredible amount of equipment for children of all ages, and there is plenty of space to enjoy the sunshine with a picnic or an ice cream.
S. R.
Lovely park & grounds for a family picnic & playground. Perfect on a nice, sunny day with both the Blaise museum & woodland walks available. Cafe & toilet facilities also there.
С. С.
Great place to cycle, walk or run. Huge green space and woods. I often run there and cycle. The people are polite. Cannot hear any car noises once I get further in the park.
Love this place!
S. B.
Excellent facilities and playground. Food available too
R. L.
Great space with lovely walks and woodland to explore.
T. G.
Lovely place to take dogs for long walks in the many paths through the woods. Large open grassy area for children to play, cafe in grounds and toilet facilities.
C. D.
A wonderful place, offering pleasant places to walk throughout the estate, places to kick a ball around or play cricket without upsetting other people. The children areas are particularly popular and deservedly so and they offer a good range of play equipment and sandpits or young and older children. The cafe also provides coffee, teas, ice cream and cakes and a place to relax.
A. M.
Beautiful place for a walk.
S. H.
Lovely area to take dog for a walk and get some fresh air. It was extremely busy though and hardly any social distancing in place, especially in the children's play area.
T. P.
I had an interesting experience, whilst upon one of the pathways (through the forest), in the property. We'd arrived in a blue sky, but, once arriving at the opposite end of the pathway, it'd clouded over. Within seconds, there was a rumble of thunder, and, a few minutes later, it was hammering down with rain!
💦😟💦
We ended up getting entirely soaked, as we hadn't been expecting it at all!
S. C.
This is a great estate, I haven't managed to go when the castle is open yet but the grounds are lovely to walk around. There is a very good large park with loads for kids of all ages to do. With a good sized green next to it perfect for frisbee, football or kite flying. It has a cafe with a decent selection of food and drink at fairly reasonable prices with limited seating inside, there are benches and tables outside though so there is usually enough space even when it is busy, which is quite a lot of the time.
L. C.
I love walking along the paths feeling the cool breeze and saying hello to folks I meet. The sunlight through the canopy of leaves is beautiful; the viewing points on the cliffs are amazing. It makes me happy.
K. R.
Fantastic free attraction. Lots of play equipment for all ages, nice cafe and fantastic grounds to roam around. Some equipment would benefit from an update and toilets could do with better cleaning.
C. S.
Met up with a friend for a dog walk together. Free car park! Wonderful! Simple lunch at café was great. Toilets clean.Dogs loved the open space. Didn't get as far as the Castle but a great place to catch up with doggyfriends!!... Watch out for learner drivers parking in carpark! !
R. B.
I have been visiting this place from a young age and its always a great time here with the family.
V. S.
Blaise Castle is an oasis of calm and tranquility in a busy city. We love walking in the woods and having coffee and cake at the friendly cafe.
N. S.
If you are going to the Castle look for the stairs up, it's deceptive! The grounds are lovely, and have a stream running through them. Plenty of open space, as well as nice trees.
I. V.
Lots of nice walks in varying environments here. Great for dogs! Does get quite busy sometimes. Park on the roads nearby.
C. O.
Lots of winding interlinking rough paths, a couple of very accessible paths through the middle, a couple of bits of stunning scenery in the gorge, an adequate café, good parking, brilliant play ground and sand pit and masses of grass to mess around on. Top park. 👏
T. W.
A popular park for both children and dog walkers with the play area always full. Sadly due to budget cut backs over many years the rest of the estate has been sadly neglected. The car parking area is often not large enough and soon visitors will be hit by parking charges.
j. w.
I haven't been to blaise for years, had a lovely long walk, 8,000 footsteps, very busy, lots of dog walkers and families, only downside it was a bit too crowded on the footpaths otherwise nice to get some fresh air and exercise
R. C.
Blaise castle is great for a family day out. There is a coffee shop that sells ice cream and food. There is generally an ice cream van on site as well. The children's play area is divided into two main areas, one for younger children and one for older kids. There is ample space for a kick about and trees to offer shade. We have been into the house itself once, but not really a fan, it's the grounds that keep us coming back. There is a nice walk through the grounds that follows a small stream and has a number of ponds and water features. All in all, a nice cheap day out, free parking and fun for all the family.
J. H.
Nice tower on top of a hill near Bristol. It is not open for visitors but the walk there and and the surroundings are very nice. Don't expect to spend here more than 2 hours though if you are not planning a picknick
K. M.
Great open space for the whole family. Park has something for all ages. Large grass area for ball games. Lovely walks through the woods and stream. Free parking.
A. R.
Absolutely great place for a walk. Can't believe after living in the area for 20 years that I haven't been here before. What more can you want than beautiful woodland walks, free parking and a nice cafe.
R. B.
Wonderful open space...with woods to roam in, castles to discover...fields to play in...babbling Brooks and fresh air..there is a car park, a country house, and a strange thatched village, blaise hamlet, just around the corner, a place where hobbits might live, the kids loved it.
D. A.
Blaise Castle Estate is a gem of a place hidden away to the north of Bristol. Parking is a bit of a 'mare, but worth it to sit in the park, or walk around the wooded hills and visit the folly castle. Top it off with an ice cream from the cafe or a passing Mr. Whippy van, an that's your afternoon complete!
K. J.
Lovely place to visit will come again
E. A. N.
Blaise is a gorgeous place to walk around. Lovely cafe for takeaway coffee and fantastic park. Definitely recommend!
D. A.
Absolutely beautiful well worth a visit you could spend all day there and still not see it all, we also found the original workers cottages Dtd 1809 well worth the walk to find them
G. B.
Lovely place to visit! Great for dog walking. Little cafe and public toilets on site
K. R.
Beautiful views. Good hike up the valley side
M. M.
Love Blaise castle free museum only.open certain days so check if travelling just for this. Free parking but does get busy on weekends. An amazing open space 🙌
R. E.
Great place to walk arround get fresh air, walk dogs, have a bbq and play field games also a fantastic play park for kids of all ages. An icecream vanfor the hotdays and a cafe for backon sandwiches and coffee on those cold mornings
M. W.
Brilliant for families , dog walkers , and walkers in general , lovely play equipment , lovely cafe , the house is very interesting and the grounds r well kept ☺️
T. L.
Very good for kid's 🙂
L. T.
I've always gone to blaise on a nice day, I used to spend alot of time here when I was a child, it's great to walk your dog. Nice park loads of space. You can relax on the big field amd go get some food in the restaurant or go for a walk in the woods and find the castle
D. J.
Amazing for walks especially on frosty mornings. Stunning views. A café and parks for the children. Well worth a trip to get away from it all
L. E.
Great walks, great park and a nice little coffee shop. Lovely place to take the kids for a BBQ or picnic
N. S.
Great place for a walk. Can either stick to the main path or opt to go wandering through the woods. Really beautiful place.
S. C.
Very nice place for a kids day out. Has a big play area for kids. A very quick trek will lead to the Blaise Castle from the park . There is also a museum and a cafe in the park.
K. M.
Lovely place but could do with better sign posts
a. c.
on such a rainy day me my daughter and grandson decided to brace it and had a lovely couple of hours in the great outdoors...
E. S.
An amazing park. It has almost everything. A fabulous playground. A cafe. Clean loos. An interesting museum. Walks in woods by a stream. A hill to climb. A folly in the shape of a castle and a huge area for playing games and picnics. Shame they took out the train though!
K. H. (.
Lovely easy walking paths around a well established woodland with amazing views. Friendly polite helpful dog walkers & dogless people
G. R.
Beautiful spaces to walk, and a great play area for younger and older kids alike. The cafe is also wonderful and serves nice tea and cake.
S. F.
Great place to visit. Lovely walks. Two play areas for different ages. House is free to go in and very interesting. Good day out.
P.
Did'nt get to go in the castle - but there is a lovely open space in front of it which is perfect for picnics and play. Some other wider walks you can take around the area, a nice trip out. Numerous quiet, scenic walks you can't take.
j. s.
Great location for a walk in nature, picking and some exploring
B. N.
I live near to blaise and it is a stunning place, a fantastic day out. The only issue is that it is a victim of its own success. It is full of dogs and dog owners, no peace and quiet, at the weekend the main path is a non ending train of dog owners and their mutts traipsing up and down, calling out in that ridiculous high pitched doggie name calling voice. It is literally impossible to find any peace and quiet here on the day at weekends, and you are literally looked at oddly if you don't have a dog. Lovely place, just far too many dog owners.
G. N.
Great place for walking and breathing a bit of fresh air. So many footpaths to follow, and such great views and places of intwrest: the folly, iron age fort, museum. Also great for Nordic Walking with Bristol Nordic Walking.
J. D.
Bring your dog! It’s a total playground.
S. J.
Lots of green space for dogs or picnics or small barbeques. Some parking. Small cafe & toilets there as well. Easy to get to.
K. B.
Only been here to use the dog park. However, it is a great dog walking area...lots of room. The car park can be pretty busy on the weekends.
J. C.
Sand pit in the children's play area needs more regular cleaning and sanitation.
Toilets are forever getting blocked, no hand towels, soap etc
M. M.
Clean and spacious. Always lovely even on a grey day.
I. S.
Lovely park but the toilets are very bad .I can't even change my baby because is not baby changing room anymore ,the table is removed. The other toilets are blocked or broken. The playground could do some cleaning to be honest.
A. W.
Great day out with the grandchildren. Plenty of space to play and picnic with lovely walks.
c. s.
Can't get a better place than the Blaise Castle Estate on a lovely spring, summer, autumn or winter's day. Great place to spent time and enjoy the season alone or with family, friends and pets. Great place, love it!
P. C.
Love this place as a child it was magical and as a parent now it's just as good as I remember it 😎👍🏼
P. H.
Have enjoyed the estate for 65 years, I remember when I was 10 years old, using the paddling pool on the grass just in front of where the GIANT GORAM used to sit, I also recall the goram fair, there was a man called STAN Bond who used to dive from a great height into a small tank of water 💦, happy days indeed.
A. D.
Loved this wonderful public space, sunny day helped. Great to see families out together. Dog walkers. Cafe was pleasant. Toilets well maintained.
H. K.
Always a lovely place to visit. Grounds well maintained, fab play equipment for all ages, well stocked cafe, free parking and public bathrooms which are the only thing that lets it down a bit. Bathrooms could really do with a good clean and bit of maintenance.
I have been going to blaise for 40 years and have very fond memories of it. Idea place for a picnic amongst friends and families - dogs allowed too. Ice cream van always their too!
Lots of lovely walks amongst the trees up to the castle, around Blaise house (which has been used by lots of series for filming) even a gromit in the grounds today 14th August.
Highly recommend a visit whatever the weather and time of year.
F. D.
Very good place to disconnect, have a walk or a run, enjoy an ice cream or a coffee. It is one of my go-to when I need a break from everything.
J. D.
Love it here! Best playground in Bristol. Beautiful scenery. Just a shame it's so busy on weekends.
N. B.
Lovely place to come and relax, anytime of the day.
A. V.
A late 18th-century mansion house and estate, Blaise Castle House provides a feel for the lifestyle of a prosperous family on a country estate. The Picture Room, with a domed glass ceiling, is decorated with paintings, and the house is known for its collections of children's toys, including doll houses and furniture, trains, and toy soldiers.
On the estate are ruins of Kings Weston Roman Villa, with baths, a heating system, and mosaic floor. The house and Roman villa are closed January through March.
T. L.
Loving my day out with my beautiful adventurous daughter at Blaise Castle.
S. J.
Great place for children huge park, on site cafe and museum, woods are great for walking/ running and amazing views when you get upto the castle, has lots of green space for pic nics and sports like rounders ,criket ,football etc parking can be challenging at peak times, an overflow sometimes opens during the summer months.
S. m. v.
Lovely place to visit. More signs to find the castle would be helpful.
c. t.
Lovely place but not very well sign posted to castle , definitely not suitable for pushchairs and prams .
M. A.
It's the holidays, week 2, you've had enough of the kids and the kids have had enough of you. It feels like they've inflated to ten times their normal size and are filling up every room in the house to the point that they're always in your face, demanding and pestering and bored.
Definitely time for some wide open space, interesting scenery (even for kids), a castle, some play parks, a museum, wide open space, some wide open space and a bit more wide open space.
Chuck anything you might need in the boot and get to Blaise - bikes, scooters, footballs, gliders, picnic, gazebo and bbq, rocket launchers, - anything you want because there is space to use it. Take a climb up the hill to the castle and see views into the gorge (hit them with stories of the giants that used to live there, details available in the museum, or make your own stories up), take the paths down into the gorge and have a splash and when they've seen enough stick them in the play parks and have yourself a break and an ice cream.
It's a great place. You can spend the whole day there and they'll be worn out and happy come the end of it. This place will preserve your sanity. Until tomorrow!
N. B.
Park. Toilets. Cafe. Lots of places to walk and things to see. Blaise is fab for a day out.
One thing that lets it down is the facilities and cleanliness of them It's a shame the toilets rearly have soap or toilet tissue despite there being workers drinking tea with feet up on tables in the office next to it.
r. f.
Amazing place, everytime we visit its a different walk! Beautiful scenery 👌
S. H.
Love this area. It has a small outside sitting area with cafe, toilet facilities including accessible toilet, museum, a park for the
children, the blaise castle and lovely walks leading out to several surrounding areas
C. S.
Its a public park which is open to all ,we took our dog through the woods she loved it ,there is toilets and cafe on site and the kids play equipment looked good .
N. W.
Great space and woods to walk
E. E.
It's a beautifully set estate with so many lovely walks as well as a cafe, toilets and a large park for children to play in.
S. Y.
Needs to be open more than two days a year. Lovely place but disappointed that you can't go in
S. G.
Great walk around very recommended. Only thing the parking should just be dragged further along and made bigger. I know theres an overflow but its on grass so not good in rain and not always open.
S.
Beautiful place, to relax, to walk or even walk your dog, play park for kids, its got a cafe/toilets and a museum.
S. A.
Great choice of flat or more hilly walks in the woods for great views! Good play area for the kids too. Free parking
e. e.
Had a relaxing walk up to the folley with the family, very enjoyable
S.
Wonderful walk with the dog with a cheeky ice cream from whippy van.
Was so busy though was waiting for a parking space for a little while
G. T.
Be adventurous & take a walk away from the main paths. I've found dozens of new walks but make sure you wear walking shoes or boots
T. W.
Visit Blaise quite often as my dog loves it here. Will never get bored of walking through the woods, the sites are amazing and it's such a fun walk
I. M.
Great place for a walk. My kid loves playground area, a lot of activities for different age groups. Zip line is a bit sloppy.
L. S.
Parking can be tight in summer months but a decent overflow available. The park is great all year round and you can watch the seasons change as you walk through the Valley towards Combe Dingle.
D. M.
a great place for the whole family
S. M. D.
Blasecastle is a lovely place to be if you want to take the family out for the day. There is a lot to do for the children to let the children let off some steam or go to the castle which is a bit of track but if your fit then give it a go. There is plenty of parking for all. And I think it free but check that when you get to blasecastle. There is load of space for ball games and kiting flying and other sports. There is a nice cafe and toilets but the cafe can be quite expensive if you have a large family I do recommend taking a pic nic. Or eating before you go. I hope if you do go to blasecastle that you have a great time injoy yourself .
O. P.
Great park to go for a walk, play and spend the day with the kids. There are a lot of paths through the forest. The obvious walk is to make your way to the castle but there is also a great path along the river. Really good kids area too.
A. S.
Fantastic place, even on a cold day. Great for all, with play areas, walks and a cafe. We love it!
C. D.
Very large open space, great walks and a park for the kids, what more could you ask for on a dry day
J. E.
Great play park, great river walks too.
