Reviews of Cudmore Grove Country Park
D.
After catching the Brightlingsea foot ferry, we set out down the southern coast line of Mersea island. Had no idea this areas was a country park. Such a stunning coast with the wartime relics, trees hanging from the top of the small cliffs, fossils and pebbles to discover in the sand. Well worth a visit if venturing across onto the island.
M. H.
Visited on a bleak day most recently, but I do think it has a lot to offer for a country park; large natural playground, historic sights, ominous ruins from the recent past on the coastline and the usual walking trails. There are some great areas for bird watching if you're willing to explore further, just make sure you don't end up stuck in Mersea due to the high tide.
M. R.
Nice beach, family friendly. Had a nice and relaxing day.. car park charge for full fay is £5.50
A. B.
A lovely family seaside experience with lots of beach and the country park to walk through on the way.
Great parking, toilets and snack shop.
D. L.
A really nice place to go for a walk. Very scenic and some nice places to have a picnic. There's also a great play area for younger children. Plenty of interesting things to find on the beach, with lots of different types of shells. If you're walking your dog bring water for them on hot days as there isn't much shading in certain areas. Make sure you check tide times. Reasonably priced car park.
A. B.
A fantastic area that's well worth a visit. It's a really nice location for a walk with a few different routes. There's a large play area that the kids love playing on. You can grab some drinks and snacks from the kiosk too. Toilets are just by the car park. Parking is chargeable but not too unreasonable given it's free entry to the park.
M. C.
This park was way better than we could have expected. The play areas were nothing like we see in London. The kids had a great time and didn't want to leave. We could have honestly spent all day here quite easily. The little WWII bunker was really cool too. Defo worth the drive just to go to the park for the day and with the water being so close it's like a double day out. No graffiti ruining anything. It was beautiful.
P. S.
A great place for our grandchildren to play. Walks around the area are lovely as are the views over to Brightlingsea and beyond.
K. B.
Wonderful country park adjoining the East Mersea Flats Nature Reserve. Great walks with views over mud flats and salt marsh.
S. N.
Serene and beautiful. Easy parking and super clean toilet block. Views from the beach are gorgeous.
V.
Open fields, play area with sand, forest, beach, war bunker, so much to explore. Just a shame the shop wasn't open and no timings on it to know when it is.
J. C.
Absolutely beautiful. Lovely walks, pretty beaches (mainly at low tide), and the public toilets were spotless.
One big complaint. I've been there twice in a week (Friday and then the following Monday)and the shop wasn't open either time. Very cruel to have ice cream signs and no chance of getting one!
I was there again yesterday (18/7), kiosk STILL not open. Thank goodness the loos were!!!!!!!
D. H.
Possibly my favourite walking place with my dogs.
Lovely park area plus not far from there to the sea and a lovely walk by a river or on the beach or on a causeway overlooking both.
The parking is expensive I suppose, but not unusual these days.
Nice that there's a shop for coffee and ice-cream.
S. G.
Lovely open space for walking with a baby carrier, lots of children's play equipment. Great views over the water. There's plenty of parking, it isn't cheap but worth it for a great walk.
c. f.
Lovely place for a scenic walk. Good parking (pay and display) and excellent toilets.
D. C.
Pay to park and it is a bit steep - but on the plus side a great kids park to play on, loads of open space to walk in and some interesting boards around the place give history and wildlife info.
Lovely in summer and pretty bleak in winter (but with its own beauty if you wrap up warm!) Its well worth a visit.
S. H.
We love this place hadn't been there for a while parking little bit pricey and there isn't as many places to plot up and play games anymore. And on the day we was there no toilets not good when you have 4 females and they was told to go to the local pub which is about 2 or 3 miles down the road.
A. G.
Beautiful, chilled beach on a sunny day. Great adventure playground for children, friendly kiosk staff, good one way system, covid safe practices for toilets etc. For simple pleasures on a sunny day.
A. C.
Great open park . Not bad for £5.50 all day. What I do like is you can BBQ as long as it's on a stand. Nice play area for the kids . Clean toilet block . The day I was there we had thousands of little black spiders in the wind which became a little annoying . Could do with a few more bins
J. H.
Great play park, lovely flat walk with great views. Another one of our favourite places.
A. G.
very quiet and peaceful, beach ok. Lovely place to walk the dog. Could do with a small cafe
M. L.
Lovely Country Park right on the sea/estuary, beautiful views and great walks on the sea defences. In the summer ideal for families, games and picnics....
h.
A lovely area for walks along the seaside with the added benefit of some minor historical WW2 sites and a nice children's playground.
m. g.
Beautiful shoreline to walk along, incredible to see the damage to the cliffs and how it's crumbled to the beach. There are remains of gun stations on the beach plus an intact one in the park above. Parking is pricey at £2.20 for 2 hours but we walked from the holiday camp next to it.
P. D.
Great place to take the kids and family! Really nice play park with sand pit. The beach front is less than five minutes walk away. The only issue is that parking closes at 1630, which is a little early for my liking. However , highly recommend for a day out!
P. L.
Lovely open space to walk rangers were very informative loos were open and covid controlled car park prices were ok 2.2 for 2h 3.3 for 3h 4.4 for 4h 5.5 all day. By cash card or phone. Bird hides and coast walks were posted
N. K.
We visited Cudmore Grove Country Park today.
It's a beautiful place to take the children or just to go for a stroll. Lot's of open space and a very short walk to the beach.
E. B.
A lovely place to take the children, short walk to the beach. Only downside was the car park ticket machine was a nightmare in the summer with massive queues as it took so long to work out how to use it.
S. J.
Nice walk and beautiful scenery. Can get quite busy during holidays so better to turn up early. Small cafe on site and toilets.
T. R.
Great family or walking place. Recent adventure climbing area is excellent. Parking is £3.30 for 2 hours or £4.40 for 3.
P.
Was very wet/raining on day of visit.Nice place to visit little coffee shop can toilets disabled with ramp.
Great for picnic children's playground.
Beach at bottom of path, well kept.
s.
Great area for walking, saw lots of birds, handy having a toilet, nowhere to get a drink. Car park is card or app
A. M.
Lovely place to go for a long walk along the beach. There are some World War 2 bunkers there as well
M. O.
Despite the long pebbly beaches its better to swap flip flops for comfy shoes and be prepared to explore. It's a massive natural habitat. Best bits are the sea views from the cliffs, the beach, BBQ areas, great for kites, space for outdoor games, kids play area, clean toilets, picnic areas. Worst bit; the BUGS! Insect spray is a must.
D. W.
On a cold Winters day in January it was very quiet, but a lovely place to walk the dog, who enjoyed the open specs and sea. Not visited for a couple of years and was amazed by the damage to the cliffs along the shoreline, but still passable with care. Toilet facilities were open but nothing else. Thought the parking charge was a little high, but the facilities for families and kids have improved a lot.
M. I. (. I.
Beautiful open space in East Mersea Island, great for families to play and picnic, it is a nature reserve too so be mindful that it has an abundance of Adders. A play park for the kids and a coffee shop are also on site. The land meets the sea and a lovely beach area too, great place to stretch your legs!
C. W.
Brilliant place for a visit ,, good play area for children , stunning views and nice walks with views over Colne Estuary. Very clean toilets and at weekends a snack van , you have to pay for parking but we'll worth it
A. H.
A great place to visit, children will love the play area, coffee and icecream available (in the summer)and don't forget the dogs.
G. D.
Brilliant new children's play area which added to an already lovely area. Spent a few hours playing then a walk down to the beach as the tide came in.
K. C.
The car park is now pay and display, but few signs, so unless friends had made us aware we'd have probably got a ticket ☹️
A.
Great for a walk, easily accessible and playground added as well. Only have to watch when it's high tide. Still worth going to!
R. “. C.
If you ever visit Mersea Island then try and plan a visit here as the view alone is worth it. This is probably the best place to start walking clockwise round the shoreline and beach towards the more populated, West Mersea . The walk will pass the main campsites of the Island and picturesque beach huts. Great coastal walk during all seasons.
M. C.
Lovely afternoon walk. Has a cafe and toilets. It also has a park for young ones too
H. N.
Fantastic park. Free to visit, just the pay for parking is a bit of a pain. Beach short walk away, kids loved it!
A. P.
Great place in the summer £4 parking all day and has a nice kids play area too lovely beaches great for a picnic
M. L.
Great place for walking, nice views as well
A. G.
It was very rugged and peaceful. Miles from anywhere, and nowhere toget a drink, but thst might have been due to time of year.
l. b.
What a lovely place to visit park was lovely clean and car park within minutes walk to the sea.A most visit for my family again
L. R.
Love the kids area. Tea room nearby and toilets. If you are wanting to visit somewhere that is large this area is more on a smaller side and can be very cramped at busy times. Car parking is expensive in my view and there is no free parking close by. Recommend a visit.
t. s.
Really lovely place lots to do beach climbing frames something to eat and drink or take a picnic
S. B.
Nice destination for a hot day as there's always a sea breeze. Parking is expensive, allow £4-5 if you want to stay a few hours. Toilets and ice cream booth at the car park, with vegan cornets as well as the usual. Big field allows plenty of space for picnics, barbecues are allowed so long as they're on a stand and there's a massive ship themed play area to keep kids entertained for ages. If you fancy a short walk you can take in views of Brightlingsea and even get the hourly boat across the water if you want. You can also swim at the boat crossing point even when the tide's right out. On the down side there is a LOT of coastal mud when the tide is out and it can get a little bit whiffy.
t. m.
Nice country park leading down to a small beach(not the best beach), toilets in the car park always a bonus. Really nice park for the children and you can get icecream and refreshments.
R. T.
Nice childrens play area, parking and a pebble beach walk where you can still see remains of WW2 fortifications
T.
Great place to take the kids and dogs. Really nice play park, plenty of places to sit and lovely walks.
N. D.
excellent place for a walk very peaceful and delightful scenery also has toilets which very free and very clean there is a cafe but it was closed probably only opens at weekends
K. P.
Nice space for all the family to enjoy the coast. Grab an ice cream. Also has a lively park for kids to play on
J. T.
Amazing playground with a spectacular view.
Just wish people would respect the nature more and take care of their rubbish!
My daughter and her little friends call it as their secret paradise 💕
C. B.
Had a nice family day here. Social distancing good in these current times. Great park for the kids and a stony beach area of you want some water fun. When the tides out you can explore three area with its crabs and co. Went here by on a sunny day and water was warm. People in swimming but if suggest some beach shoes as ground can be bit tough on the feet! Overall a very successful day out will definitely return!
N. R.
Great playground and facilities. Lots of open grassy spaces. Kids love the ww2 pillbox
B. S.
The playground is great with something for all ages. My little one loved digging for dinosaur bones. Beautiful place to walk. Little kiosk to get snacks and hot drinks on the weekend. Plenty of parking.
E. M.
Nice wide open space where the kids can play and the adults and sit with a great view across the whole park
S. M.
Vast walking areas and great kids play area. Good open space to blow the cobwebs and give the dog a good run. Toilets available at car park too and plenty picnic tables
J. &. P. D.
Lovely beachside walks, spacious green area, good parking and litter free.
N. P.
Nice place for a picnic, seafood van did great scallops. Parking facilities need some work and not worth the money.
E. B.
Fab spot to hang out for the day. Good basic cafe. Clean facilities. Worth a stop at East Mersea Barn cafe which recently opened.
I. K.
A good place for a walk near beach and old world war bunkers. Place could use some more attraction for visitors.
S. F.
Lovely walks along the sea front carpark is pay and display can use card
M. L.
Beautiful place to be on a sunny morning . Watching the sea, enjoying a walk on the freshly cut grass. Everything is kept neat and tidy.
What is there not to love
D. D.
Bit quieter than the other parts of Mersea. Good parking easy access to paths.
M. N.
Really lovely place to visit and the history it has. Definitely worth a visit
S. P.
Lovely large park clean and tidy.
H. S.
Lovely area for a walk and or picnic. Play area for the children and plenty of open space to explore whilst being by the sea.
M. P.
Fantastic coastal walks. Great for kids and dogs
E. “. P. O. G. W.
Beautiful place but blimey do the car park company take their pound of flesh for it! Bring the kids, explore nature and ruined WW2 defences, great!
L. N.
A lovely day out! Great park for children to explore surrounded by vast green fields. Walking along the sea walls was lovely and accessible for our pushchair. Managed to go down to the beach too. Parking charges apply but easy to pay via the MiPermit App. Toilets and ice cream available at kiosk. Will definitely be coming back soon!
G. L.
Great mix of open parkland, beach and cliffs. Well maintained facilities and activities for children. The car park isn't very big though and it is very popular in the Summer.
S. N.
Enjoyed the Sea breeze 👍🏻👌🏻
P. L.
Amazing. Beautiful views in the countryside, an awesome little selection of 'ship style' parks, with good parking and coffee. The only slight knock is the single track road getting in and out of the area but it's not going to spoil your day. Plenty to do, great for walks, bike trails or a run with a little bit of history too. The pill boxes, which the kids found great fun running in and around them.
I. P.
Nice park for dog walks, the park itself is not that big, but ample adjacent grass fields and nice walks along the beach/coast line. Lots of parking, but can get very busy/full quickly (especially on days when weather is good or holiday days). Parking is a bit pricey. The road in/out is single lane and get become a bit of a bottleneck. Toilets and food kiosk/s on site
J. W.
It is a beautiful place with lots of history and wildlife. I walk up the beach to Cudmore from the public right of way via Coopers Beach, which is a lovely walk but you have to be mindful of the tides. If you drive there is a large car park but the approach road is a bit narrow. A nice day out.
J. T.
A lovely place, but needs bins so people don't litter. Also, only 1 out of the 5 soap dispensers in the ladies toilets actually had soap in it. When places are charging for car parking, it would be nice to have a few more basic facilities.
M. S.
This is a great cheap place to take your kids, the parking isn't expensive, I use the app which is simple enough.
There's a little coffee hut for takeaway drinks and the toilets are really clean.
Then the important bit is that the park is great for the kids and it's nice to go for a walk along the beach.
C. B.
Ample, if somewhat expensive parking, with an 'interesting' and easy to miss approach road. Ideally placed for a walk along the East Mersea beach or for catching the foot ferry to Brightlingsea or Point Clear. The kids play area is well provisioned with large play equipment and was certainly proving popular at the time of our visit. It looks like a new barriers car park payment system is about to be implemented but as of 16/4/22 this was not operational.
D. B.
Wonderful area spoilt by ripoff parking charges in these days of austerity
A. H.
The place is grate for walking, playing and family gathering. So much fresh air and space for all.
A. B.
Nice facilities, covid prepared. Clean toilets and easy parking. Food shack just took cash, will go again.
V. I.
One of the few beaches that allow dogs all year round! Lovely place, peaceful and clean.
J. A.
Amazing views, something for everyone. Shelter away from coast as well as quiet beaches
D. B.
Clean playarea & facilities. Great fun for the kids
F. F.
Who doesn't love a Christmas walk at cudmore grove....though it is a little prettier with the tide in!
P. G.
The park improved a lot since our last visit. Kids have a lovely playground now. Even toilet facilities were absolutely spotless, recently refurbished and looking/smelling clean and fresh.
The only downside is that you can't have a barbeque anymore. There are signs saying "NO BBQ" plastered all over place so we had ours down the beach.
D. C.
A favourite place of ours.A good walk.
A. H.
Lovely park suitable for most ages. Great walks to go from here with pillboxes to investigate. Toilets available and kiosk for ice lollies and drinks. Parking is pricey.
E. M.
Fantastic walk. Lovely beach at high tide. Well worth a visit.
K. F.
Nice walk along the beach. Bring plenty of coins for the car park
R. B.
Beautiful coastal walk on a lovely sunny day with a superb play area to keep the kids amused. A good sized car parking area, disabled toilet, tea and coffee, ice creams and small snacks.
There is an old WWII pill box still there, but a few of the old sea defences have fallen into the sea now. These can be seen on the beach with the mountings on top for either guns or searchlights. There are old stair cases sunken into the sand that my children imagined lead to hidden underground buildings. The cliff is being eroded quite rapidly with trees fallen onto the beach. This makes for a great walk at low tide and seeing how the sea is claiming the land...
Well worth a visit with the kids to explore and relax...
N. P.
A great place to come for walking, sitting on the beach , or for a picnic. You can also jump on a ferry to Brightlingsea as well
C. G.
Great day out parking fees reasonable
£5.80 for over 3hours stay well with it great area for picnic little cafe on site
S. L.
Beautiful open countryside near the coastline with lovely views of Mersea Island. Downside is that it is quite crowded at peak times with lots of dogwalkers. Parking charge as well even for disabled badge holders ! Prefer a quieter place myself for a nature walk.
M. W.
Great place for a walk on the beach. The walk would probably take you no more than 45 min. The park have a fantastic playground for kids. Car park is quite expensive but it has a public toilets that are very well kept. If you fancy a hot beverage there is a little coffee shop, but it only accept cash.
D. B.
Great for dog walking and chilling out.
S. D.
Great place to visit. Family friendly with a fantastic playground for the little ones. Lovely walks along the coastline too. We were here for around 4 hours on a warm but slightly drizzly day and had a tonne of fun.
C. G.
Lovely spot for a walk, a picnic and a few games. Great for all.
S.
a lovely area and beach the oyster pens were interesting
H.
Lovely Place, great for kids especially.
M. F.
A little gem ,tucked away on the far east of the island
C. H.
A great few hours out with our your family. The play park is great for kids of all ages. The beach is very nice, there are a lot of shells and oysters for the kids to pick up. It's also very nice to see an open pill box which you can go inside.
M. E.
Toilets and parking. Walking but views are not stunning
G. D.
Had a great day at country park. Toilets clean plus kiosk very handy. The car park surface is poor, with broken asphalt on access road, considering they must take thousands of pounds in car park charges a week Essex County Council should hold their heads in shame
S. W.
Pretty neat, clean and tidy with public amenities and shop. Beach full of fascinating shells and other finds for interested children, sand for the not so interested. In better weather, this would be a fantastic day out.
Z. L.
Lovely place but parking is very expensive.
T. B.
Love coming here with my grandchildren we all enjoy it
R. R.
Nice dog walk and coffee at the end always a bonus
L. C.
Not to sure about this place, car parking pricey, a nice walk ,but lots of dogs around and without leads, cafe not open .
s. r.
Nice for a walk and dog friendly too. There is a very good play area for kids with some innovative climbing frames over soft sand. Shame the refreshment kiosk always seems to be closed when we go there! Adequate parking (paid, including disabled) and toilet facilities. For photographers the exposed soil and shingle / sand layers on the eroded cliff edge makes for an interesting picture.
B. T.
Really lovely walking here with a great play area for kids. Nice and quiet at times when those thoughts need gathering. Good place to launch a kayak too as the beach is only a short walk away from reasonable priced parking.
D. A.
Great Park with lots to do. Playground, walks and a beach.
s. c.
A great Country Park to wander around. To walk through a virtual forest of developing Hog's Fennel to aid the very rare Fisher's Estuarine Moth. The walk along the seawall which has become smothered in Alexanders. Good views of Brent Geese, waders and Sand Martins.
O.
A lovely place to come for a walk. Nice for a romantic picnic on sunset. Various nice shells can be found on local beaches. Park is good for both children and dog owners. Rabbits and foxes can be seen. Be careful in the West as there snakes in high grass. There is also big parking and lots of benches. Hope you enjoy it)
M. W.
Lovely views and in the summer this must be fantastic to see the ships and boats.
J. C.
Went here last week - great country park - Pay for parking is cheaper than any entrance of a single person to any attraction and our lot didn't even make it past the pirate ship climbing frame.
Perfect for young kids and there's more we didn't even see.
Would definitely go back.
M. P.
It's great there's a field for dogs and there is a park a bunker to explore and a wonderful beach just check online for tides to cross the bridge
S.
Great place for a picnic. One of the few dog friendly places. Rude drivers are abundant, especially those families saving parking space for friends/family.
M. C.
Beautiful place to visit, you can walk to the waters edge and see across to Brightlingsea and Point Clear. Parking is expensive £2.20 for one hour. The kiosk there sells limited items with a few ice cream etc but only takes cash. There are toilets and a play area too.
D. B.
This place is lovely. Really beautiful open spaces with a nicely-stocked, reasonably-priced shop selling drinks and snacks. We had a great time sunbathing and hanging out with friends. What took the shine off of this day out was the overwhelming volume of midges and mosquitoes trying to feast on us non-stop throughout the day.
S.
Great place to visit for the day. We had a lovely day out together. The playground is fantastic for all ages. The facilities are clean and there is plenty of parking too. Plan to go again and stay for longer to see more. Perhaps stay overnight. Definitely worth a visit.
O. G. M. V.
So open and clean. Great park.
W. T.
Perfect for a sunny day. Mix of country park with activities for younger children and if you walk further down there is a lovely beach
S. W.
Nice coffee at the kiosk. Great walks, crabbing on the beach was fun.
L. M.
Great place to let your kids run off some energy. The beach isn't very sandy but there's lots of fun to have around the rocks and looking for shells!
The new park area is also 5 star.
Lovely friendly place to go with clean toilets and a little snack shop. Perfect large grass area for picnics, BBQ's even kite flying.
N. H.
It was a lovely day to have a walk along the beach ☀ (tied was out). Beautiful and Lovely place to spend the day with family, including four legged family members, either by the beach or in the greenery surroundings. Walking, picnicing, collecting shells, taking photos, relaxing, playing...
There's sandy play ground for children, there's burger van (wasn't opened) and Ice-cream 🍦 van.
Toilets 🚻 available
Car park with play and display, lots of spaces. Accepts coints or card. Disabled parking available.
Up to 1 hour £2.20
Up to 2 hours £3.30
Up to 3 hours £4.40
Over 3 hours £5.50
(Money from parking is used to maintain the park and protect its wildlife. You can now buy parking online through MiPermit.)
A. A.
Great place for walking dogs or just going for a walk. Close to good beaches. You do have to pay for parking but I feel that's fair. Great place... usually an icecream van around... great for after your walk. Just be careful you don't get stranded by high tide..we got such on Mersea island... but only for an hour.
d. d.
Well worth a visit even on a drizzly day. Loved watching sand-martin's flying in & out of their cliff burrow/nests, clearly busy feeding young chicks. A rare sight to witness close up.
L. L. C.
Good parking facilities and toilets, plenty of space for picnics dogs and kids to play, beach walk well maintained
Always a pleasure
a. k.
Great place for the whole family (when the tide is out). Lots of open land with big children's park area and coastal great for children learning about crabs etc.
M. A.
Lovely walks, a beach with some sand, plenty of space for the kids to run around. You have to pay for parking, and it's a bit off the beaten track, but we'll worth it.
S. H.
Playpark and beach all in one. What's more to love? Check for high and low tides before you arrive.
J. C.
Great dog walking good for the children
B. G.
Took my son here with the dog. My son had great fun and loved the pill box you can go in. Very nice secenic views of the sea and the coastline. Fun play areas for the kids and it's all kept very tidy.
R. G.
Great place to walk about and see some great views. Have not found the park yet as is confusing entrance with limited parking spaces of about 5 cars.
K. A.
A lovely place to go for a day out, picnic tables are available a small shop for those essential ice creams! and beautiful surroundings a great place to take the kid,s with plenty of space for them to "let off steam"! Do check tide times to get on an off the island as the road on to the island floods at high tide!
L. J.
Well kept, delightful gem of a place. Walking down the footpath we saw muntjac deer and a slow worm or adder (slithered by quite quick)
My only gripe is that they should give more freedom to the staff running the refreshments hut. Cash only and then exact money only on a Bank Holiday and not selling sandwiches or food (that I could tell)
Lovely swim at high tide. Clean beach. Plenty of grass and things to see including the WW2 trail.
R. M.
Excellent place to see waders, seabirds etc. Best not to come at weekends as it's also a great place for dog walking and families! Parking is pay and display. Bring change ( £2.20 for 1 hr, £3.30 for 2 hrs, £4.40 for 3 hrs) or use MiPermit App.
G. T.
Lovely afternoon spent here enjoyed the open space and the history of this area great place for a family or couples to have a picnic with picnic benches aplenty tea room also on site very clean toilets.quite large car park where you could think like me a bit expensive at as was£2.20 for an hour but desences the longer you stay you need more than an hour to appreciate the place.great place for dogs
G. S.
Great climbing park for your children.
V. H.
Good car park. Pay and display. Can pay by phone. Nice large Treen area and good children's play equipment. Dogs welcome. Nice walk along beach.
P. J.
This is a really lovely beach side country park which has a great feeling of desolation in a peaceful way. The skies over the sea have a feeling of vastness that you don't really feel in urban areas. Pleny of people doing watersports and lots of wild life - good for bird watching I should imagine. A good place to walk dogs and get some fresh air. Some people have barbecues. Well worth a visit.
G. C.
Had a great time. Harley really enjoyed playing in and trying to eat the sea. Lovely coastal walk with the sea in one side and a river on the other. Lots of places to sit. Definitely worth another visit😀
J. B.
Open space plenty of room for picnics, dogs & kids. Well looked after play equipment, clue is open space so could be chilly if windy
A. W.
Very nice; toilets are open, bit pricey to park (£4.40 for 3 hours) acres of space, nice picnic benches, great pillboxes and gun emplacements.
l. p.
It's a shame the little coffee kiosk has been closed down. We have visited several times over summer 2019 and no coffees/teas/ drinks/ icecreams on most occasions. The inconsistency of service provision lets this place down as a destination to go to with children. Still no hot water to wash hands with in the toilet sinks either. However, the play equipment and open space are fab.
K. M.
Stunningly Beautiful, a little slice of heaven and a fantastic play area for the children, a foot boat to brightlingsea, woods, meadow and beach with anti-semetic boats sailing passed. Good toilets, car Park expensive.
M. K.
Provides sunshine, grass and wonderful views over the Strood. A pleasant place to spend an afternoon, watching the sailing boats go by. There is plenty of parking however would advise anyone to watch out for the wind. It is constant.
A. F.
Lovely spot for a walk
P. C.
Lovely visit today in the wind. Great play area. Lovely beaches. Very friendly lady in the refreshments kiosk. They sell vegan ice cream too 😊
P. P.
We are so very blessed to have those lovely place on our doorstep, great for walks to blow the cobwebs away and the children live the large play area
K. M.
Fantastic parks and open spaces with a view over the estuary and out to sea. There is a cafe serving drinks, food and ice creams but it's a little expensive. As is the parking with options of 1hr, 3hrs or all day.
D. M.
A good park for walking dogs, general walking. You can have small BBQs as well, but you must clear up after yourself! Car park is decently sized, and accepts credit/debit cards. Cafe on site is ok, but closes early (4pm).
T. S.
Lovely dog friendly place with access to free drinking water. I'd definitely recommend wearing neoprene surf shoes or similar because of the sharp stones and warn anyone with children that the sand/mud mix past the stones can suck you down quite a bit.
C. B.
Wide open space small woodland, 3 miles of sandy/pebble beaches, 8 acres of grassland. Not commercialised. Good clean fun...
D. W.
For a country park it's ok few things to do here it. Play park is good, but could do with cheaper parking. And warden needs to put more control of dog owners with out leads running around park area.
g. r.
Not too expensive to park (you can pay by card).
Nice, peaceful, family friendly park also excellent for dog walking.
The beaches are very clean with millions of oyster and other shells for beachcombing.
V. S.
A very nice place to walk the dog and with a kids playground
J. B.
Sunny beach, and a great play park for the toddlers and youngsters. We'll worth the £5 parking. Beach is a mixture of sand and stones. Well worth the trip.
D. W.
If you can get parked and use the car parking machine in less than 20 minutes well done. Its painful! So frustrating especially when its a venue for small Children. Other than this its a lovely facility with a good café and ice-creams and the Children love it!
A. W.
Lovely area for walks and beach good play area for kids. Only minus is cost of parking. As this is Essex County Council site it should be free.
B. N.
The park is really good if your child is a bit older. I also think the parking payment is a bit much at £4 and the machine to pay is constantly breaking. But if you just want to go for a walk ect it's lovely.
A. F.
Love this place. Amazing park, lovely beach. Parking around £5.50 for all day. Would recommend taking a picnic but there is a small cafe on site for ice creams, drinks and snacks.
A. M.
Great place to visit. Was very busy when we went, as it was a very rare hot bank holiday, but there was plenty of parking. £4 to park all day was very reasonable, although plenty of people were struggling with the pay and display machine.
J. C.
Nice place for walks and family fun
T. B.
Great day out with the kids in the mud picking up treasure and having great fun . Not sure who was the biggest kid dad or son . The only thing that let it down from 5 stars was the men's toilet was absolutely minging . There is no need for stinking toilets that smell of urine before you have even stepped in to the toilet block this day and age .I would like to see some big improvements by the council very soon
J. O.
I grew up a stone's throw from cudmore grove and to this day it is one of my favourite places. from the large green, ideal for picknicks and games. the world war two gun placements and pill boxes provide a bit of history and an awesome adventure for the kids. down on the beach there are the cliffs that are constantly changing and uncovering more ancient history with old fisheries and a box fort being found just recently. I can heartily recommend a visit at an early evening high tide in the summer.
A. C.
This is a great park in Mersea with a nice play park, cafe and a fairly short walk to the beach to watch the boats. Toilets etc located next to car park.
Have scored one less star as they have introduced parking charges which means you cant simply go for a wander without having to pay to park the car. Also on very busy days it can be a bit of a knightmare getting in and out due to the single trackroad. Hopefully they will pump some of the income from the parking in to making it easier to get in and out! With all this said, worth a visit...!
R.
Lovely walks scenery.. Great for family's or walk with the dog. Play parks . Beach ..
G. F.
Beautiful and unique place to walk with a great play area for the children
s. s.
Great place to bring children. Loads of open green space and huge play park with climbing etc for kids. Toilets and a coffee shop. Can be a but windy. Great to spend a day with family and a bbq.
T. R. B.
Lovely park amazing beach
M. D.
Although the mowed paths are well kept, please don't let your pet run in the long grassy areas as my dog had been bitten by ''something'' and suffered for days.
L. B.
Great place for some fresh air and exercise or just to have a picnic. Toilets and coffee kiosk available.
p.
The staff here have pulled out all the stops, extremely clean bathroom facilities, very clean carpark with regular trash collections, friendly service and the park is quite interesting, well worth a visit for all families.
c. A.
I always ha've a great time there with my dog. Friendly people. My dog enjoys swimming and the great expance of grass means ball play dosn t bother other people. A new play area is great for the children , made of wood is sturdy . Really great.
L. H.
Lovely place, easy to park, very clean toilets and lots of benches. A lovely play area for children too
J.
Great place to walk the dog responsibly and stroll along the coast path for an hour. Car parking is not cheap, and beware the parking camera car is often there.
T. R.
Small but great spot for a huge variety of birds. Gets busy in fine weather. Beaches available too. Great new play park for children.
C. M.
Take a picnic and chairs if you want to stay for a while - cafe does basic drinks and ice creams. Great playground and fantastic walks along the coast.
M. R.
Great play area and lovely walks.
The car park was a little on the expensive side though.
P. A.
Great place to go for a walk. Excellent playground for children
A. S.
Beautiful place, imagine it's very busy in the summer. Make sure you budget for the car parking- its not cheap!
B. C.
Lovely place to walk and play. Downside is the single track road for access which can give rise to jams.
P. B.
Love this place. So much to do. Walking down the coast or playing football on this large green. They have built big playground so kids enjoy it even more.
J. P.
Great Park for kids, has a beach and amazing wooden playground. Nice and quiet on a weekday in March when I visited.
K. N.
Lovley place but parking charges r silly. I accept paying a little but not over a fiver for 3hours. We r encouraged to get the kids outside but it's so difficult with expensive charges. It's not like u can walk there so ur made to either pay or not go
T. W.
Great for kids. Sandpits and climbing frames and plenty of space for ball games and kite flying. Parking not the cheapest.
J. F.
Really lovely place to visit. Childrens play area. Coffee and snack shop. Dog friendly. Pay and display carpark. Cost us £4.20 up to 3hrs
J. S.
Great place for a walk, picnic, play or just sit and watch the world go by.
C. B.
Great country park for family days. Good park with sand in all of them. All they need to add now is a water feature to keep cool in summer.
M.
Good for walks and the kids love it ! really nice park for a picnic and I walk along the beach good size car park with toilets
J. Q.

It's a great place to walk your dog with a beach and nature reserve benches for a picnic great if your not to steady on your feet mostly flat and kept clean people. Are always friendly
S. G.
Toilets, parking and space for picnic
R. J.
Loads of parking and a nice walk and a very good park for the little kids to play in.
N. M.
Beautiful place but you have to pay for parking and on a sunny day parking can be limited. For a dog walking area it is surprisingly dog mess free (more or less)
R. M.
Used to be a quiet nature reserve and a great place to let your dogs run free. Now look at it. And did the planning authority even stop to consider the traffic access?
M. S.
What a great outdoor place to have a picnic with my daughters, we loved it. Just be careful to miss the high tide when leaving the island.
K. J.
This is a fab spot for dog walks and Geocaching. Really lovely and has a great play area for younger children.
B. J.
Great place for children lots of activities and large area for them to play in right next to the sea , cafe had good choice of products at reasonable prices , could be better signposting on the way there
a. r.
Very nice place to visit.. children are very happy on the playground.. nice place to walk and lovely oyster experience
C. C.
Great for walking the dog or without, there is a children's climbing area as well. Parking is expensive but there is an ice cream so outweighs the cost.
D. G.
Only here for parkrun. Nice.
M. W.
It's a great place to visit even when wet and muddy. The new play area is a bonus but parking charges are a bit steep. Its £4 for the average stay.
M. A.
The park is good for parents, dog walkers and those just wanting to walk. Access to the park is via a single track road which can be a problem on busy days.
P. W.
Great place to have a new or relax with family and friends. Little cafe and toilet facilities. Views of the sea too. You have to pay for parking so that's why I gave it 4 stars.

S. J.
