Reviews of Roman Theatre
Its brilliant for children. I used to take my daughter in there. And she loved it. There are puzzles to do. It's only a small museum but good to pop into.
Pretty good place.
great display and information 🙂
Very informative. Interesting.
Sadly not as well presented as it should be
A fantastic piece of Colchester history
Great little place
Look through the square window
It was great
Was brilliant
Good
As awesome as it is to have one of the largest Roman theatres in England located in Colchester, it is rather disappointing at how it is being presented... You can only really see it through a locked door.
it was fun
Unfortunately, one can only see a very small part of the former Roman theater through the dirty, reflective windows of the small, inconspicuous building. A truly sad and desolate sight for the largest Roman theater in England. If you look at all the pictures, you've seen just as much.
The D-shaped Roman theater was located west of and adjacent to the Temple of Claudius, facing north down the slope to the river. It was built of septarium and brick and had over 3,000 seats. It was approximately 70 meters by 37 meters in size.
Super
Small but significant, an excavation under the floor of a 19th c 2 up 2 down terrace house reveals an ancient theatre foundations, set into the hill, which prominent s the landscape.
Very good, lots of nice old stuff. I don’t understand the roman theme though 🤔
Worth a visit just a short walk from town. You wouldn't know it was there so worth the walk.
Excellent relic of an ancient Roman theatre but trouble is you can only see it through a window unless you make a special arrangement with the council to be let inside.
I gained access by being on a guided tour of Colchester. There isn’t a huge amount to see but still very interesting.
Wonderful to actually see a bit of history uncovered in colchester not built in with new houses
Pretty hard to find the once largest theatre in England. This landmark deserves better.
Very informative also lovely for a walk.
