Reviews of Bagots Castle
A stunning place to visit, we soon found when we got there that it is not only castle ruins to see. As well as the castle and gazebo there is a beautiful Riverside Walk, 2 fishing ponds and tank testing site. We also enjoyed feeding the goats and a well earned cuppa when we got back to exit. Staff were friendly and most helpful. We didn't see the Kingfisher, but saw a Jay, damselflies and Mayflies, lots of butterflies and a rabbit whilst walking around. The Teddy bears picnic and wooden rabbits and owls were great to see, and found a ribbon that one of the rabbits were missing and tied it back on.
Lovely morning out for my 20 month old and I. We did a Easter trail and had a picnic. Interesting castle ruins and beautiful surroundings. Staff very friendly. Goats very friendly too!
Beautiful country walk, adorable goats, some interesting local history, plus fun treasure hunt for the kids. 10/10 would bring the kids again, especially if we have guests and want a gentle day out.
Very nice place to visit, just be very careful following Google maps to get there. We ended up parking in the golf club in what looked like a service yard for a farm! We managed to get back on our way, post navigating the locked electronic gates, by heading for the nearby church (St John The Baptist, Baginton). This was perfect as there was a small road sign, and then entrance to the car park as per the photos.
The castle ruins are good to explore, not being very large but do give a feel for the size of what was there. There were also several information points around to get the history. The people who run the site also have activities for different ages children too.
The walks are very good and well maintained. With a teddy bears picnic area and a long walk passed a river. It was interesting to find a former tank testing area too amongst the land we could walk around. The area was well kept and not overgrown.
There is a car park which is on grass, but has painted lines on it, and a shop for snacks or small gifts such as bookmarks and magnets. There is a toilet at the back of the shop with a 50p charge to use it.
We enjoyed our visit and would go again as it was local, but felt like we were in deep countryside with the walks and views.
Really enjoyed the site. Loved feeding the goats. Really friendly. Liked the castle excavation. Really interesting stuff about Alvis test track's. Beautiful walk by the river. Volunteers were very helpful. Worth a visit again. Take a picnic.
Enjoyed a nice walk round the ruin and grounds
Nice place for a picnic with or a stroll with family. A nice and peaceful place Baginton village. It was already closed when I arrived there. But we can see the beautiful church of St. John the Baptist when we go to Bagot's castle too.
Not just a ruined castle but a lovely walk round. Very friendly volunteers.
Castle closed only open at weekends, however lovely countryside walk towards Stoneleigh.
A great place to take a liesurely stroll. The goats are fun and will happily dear from your hand (30p for goat food). The castle ruins are not that extensive, but there's enough to see on the circular walk to justify the admission.
Lovely views and river walk. Very friendly staff, great tea and cakes.
Really lovely place, nice walk and friendly volunteers.
Went there to sing for an event with my choir. It is a lovely old ruin with a little visitor centre, and some goats to feed, but they do charge for the car park and the toilet. The path to the ruin is also very steep and is gravel, so a real problem for my disabled friends.
Lovely gardens and riverside walk. Castle remains and tank training grounds with very informative signs. Good for children and the able bodied. Staff very keen and helpful.
The 'Castle' is basically just the remnants of some walls but the grounds are beautiful. It makes for a nice hour long walk at a leisurely pace with views of the river running through the blue bell filled woods and the local horses. A very nice place for a relaxing walk.
Great place to explore and feed the friendly goats. The new woodland walk is a really good addition as well as spotting the wooden owls and bears
We had a great afternoon exploring the grounds and playing round the ruins. The river walk and the bluebells were very good. Our children enjoyed doing the quiz, good for early primary children.
A hidden heritage gem! English Heritage members get in half price, lovely for a walk, dog friendly, and kid friendly. Feeding the bagot's goats is a highlight!
Beautiful location, great for young families. We went for the Easter fun and it was great - Easter egg hunt, prizes, teas and cakes for adults
Bagot's Castle is one of Coventry's best kept secrets. Having lived in Coventry for 40+ years I'd never heard of it until we spotted a sign promoting the bluebell walk and made a plan to visit later in the week.
The castle ruins are small but well presented and there are lots of information boards. The whole site is immaculately cared for by the volunteers. There is a lovely walk down to and along the river and the bluebells were beautiful. I did take some photos but they simply didn't do the flowers justice so I haven't posted them here.
Excellent site. Well worth a visit.
Really just a ruin of a castle now with just partial standing walls now. Reasonable entry fee although not much more than a couple crumbling walls in a field. Nice picnic destination and great walking routes around the site. Well worth visit if you’re in the area.
Bagots castle. A little gem hidden in baginton near Coventry open weekend & bank hollidays. A lovely walk around the ruins of the castle (1300ad) and the riverwalk picnic tables at various places on route plus lovely home made cakes /tea & coffee enjoyed the afternoon in British sunshine well worth a visit £5 adults well worth it.
Lovely little walk
Nice small little ruins of the castle and of the gazebo. I just thought it was the ruins at the site but there is a nice little nature walk there as well to do as well as an old testing grounds for armoured vehicles as well. Great place to visit for a couple of hours. Great friendly staff to help you and give you info about the site
The whole family had such a lovely time. Gorgeous scenery and lovely extra activities to do
Great little attraction this. So out of the way but well worth the visit. Brilliant helpful volunteers. Fascinating site. Great to explore. Five stars definitely.
Friendly volunteers, beautiful environment, very well kept grounds and good signposts telling you about the various spots. A shame there isn’t more of the castle but that’s nobody’s fault now, it just speaks to the fact we need to conserve more historical locations!
Absolutely Breathtaking with excellent views, a picnic area, Herdewyke Sheep & Bagot Goats in a field alongside an exciting walk to the Actual Bagots Castle site dating from 1375, with King Richard II visiting and staying in 1398.
By 1530s it was desolate, and by 1545 it had largely been largely demolished.
The Volunteers, led by David, have spent most weekends recreating and resurrecting the foundations of the castle, along with working on the surrounding area to create an enjoyable half-day visit at Very Affordable Prices for All the Family.
Lovely place for a short walk and picnic. We did as a stop of point on a much longer walk.
Visited today, as part of the Heritage Open Weekend. A lovely place to visit, great spot by the river to wander along. Wish I had visited sooner.
Wonderful place. Ran by volunteers who are all amazing.
Absolute haven just outside the city. Lovely staff, great for a wander around, soaking up some history.
