Reviews of South Yorkshire Aircraft Museum
D. W.
Really great afternoon out. Lots to see and read about. Large part dedicated about the Falklands war.. very well set up would recommend if you are looking for a few hours out. You can get a hot drink and cake as well...
K.
Great museum. Plenty to see. Spent 2 hrs here. It was open cockpit day so we were aloud to sit in various aircraft. Exhibits spread over a number of buildings. As well as the varied aircraft and vehicles on display the history of the local area and its residents are told told during the second World War.
S. H.
The prices are fair enough £12 for an adult and 2 children. Interesting place, take your time and have a saunter around. Might be a bit boring for some children as they have lots of bits and pieces from aircraft.
Plenty of free parking and easy access from the motorway.
J. W.
Had stopped off in Doncaster for the night on our way to Great Yarmouth so had googled a few bits and bobs to see anything decent to do.. this place is awesome and we easily spent a few hours walking round with a pit stop for an ice cream from the wee shop aswell.. travelling back this way again in September and will be putting this on the list of places to visit...
S. S.
Great museum! Loads to see and it’s not all 20ft behind a rope like some other museums. There’s cockpits open for visitors to sit in and pretend to fly and live out all your childhood dreams! The museum has a dedicated team of volunteers that have restored a number of the aircraft and cockpits on display to the highest standards and you’ll often see the volunteers working away on the multiple projects that the museum has ongoing like English Electric Lightning XP706, Vulcan XL388 and a collection of Canberra cockpits.
N. B.
We didn't know it was there. We had a wonderful time. Lots to see and the lady on the reception was so lovely. We'll definitely be returning.
J. S. T.
Decided to visit on a whim. Loved it. Will definitely visit again as there was more to see than we had anticipated in the 2 hours we had before closing time.
T. H.
Great place... The volunteers have done an amazing job of restoring all of these great exhibits. Well worth a visit ✈️✈️
P. Y.
An excellent and varied collection, with informative and helpful volunteers. We particularly liked the permanent Falklands displays which brought home the impact on the military and civilian participants of the war.
G.
Visited with a friend and had a good time. Quite a bit of history here and learned some cool stuff as well. I'd go back.
C. G.
Wonderful place the kids enjoyed the staff are all lovely. The shop is reasonable prices starting from smaller prices for gifts for the kids to more expensive models for the more advanced. Wonderful family day out had by all and will come back soon.
T. S.
Stayed here for 3 nights for a self build motor caravaning club rally. The museum is very interesting. Lotsof exhibits and aeroplanes really enjoyed my visit.
g.
Known about this place for years but never seen it. Took the 3 kids today and luckily dropped onto "open cockpit" day. The kids loved it..... Actually sitting in fighter planes and helicopters etc. Was alot more to see than I envisaged. Plenty of information and variety. Thoroughly enjoyed the 4 hours that we were there. You can take a picnic and stay longer than we did. Recommend a visit especially if you have kids.
S. K.
Absolutely brilliant place to visit, deffinatly needs more recognition. A good day out for those with young children.
G. T. V.
We can see lots of aircraft and know about the airforce history which is good for kids
G. D.
Fascinating place. Loads to see and well explained on graphics. Tells the story of flight from the first days and through two world wars and The Falklands.
The museum is not 'glossy' but that's part of it's attraction in my view.
The staff and volunteers are mega friendly and informative.
Well worth a day out.
P. C.
Fantastic day out for any aircraft enthusiast, lots of interesting things to see and several cockpits you can sit in. Also the people are so helpful and knowledgable.
M. A.
Due to the terrible weather we changed our plans and came across the Aircraft Museum and what a little gem!! The volunteers were lovely and talked away to us and my husband was in his element. We felt very safe with the one way system in place due to the covid pandemic and you were able to get into a few cockpits and just asked to sanitise the area you touched with the provider sanitiser and wipes. Would recommend and not expensive!
S. J.
If you are into nostalgia, brilliant craftmanship, top quality engineering then give yourself some time to explore this museum. 3 hours is but a peek into what is on offer. But you can always return!! I personally really enjoyed my visit and I will return again.. well done all of the museum people keep up your good work
T. B.
Nice aircraft museum lots of exhibits worth a visit.
S.
An excellent setup with loads of planes and helicopters to view up close and in some cases sit in. Our young son loved it.
K.
Came here on my work day off. Has changed quite a bit since last here. Well laid out. Lots of exhibits and information.
Brilliant and absolutely loved it.
The cafe is nice and had a lovely cuppa.
M. H.
Brilliant visit, great for kids too
j. e.
brilliant place to visit and get close up to military jets and helicopters also civilian planes.
disabled friendly but they need to improve assess to various places
toilet facilities very basic could do with an update.
Caffè available service's but again basic.
A. B.
This is a super museum to visit on outskirts of Doncaster set on what was RAF Doncaster from WW2.
There are numerous aircraft on display externally most military but also a few civilian types aswell.
Internally, there are again many aircraft to see with cockpit access to some.
Additional displays of various events of an aviation interest with others showing uniforms and equipment.
One of the display highlights is the Falklands experience, which is very well put together and is an exceptional display.
The museum has a shop selling a variety of products including a good range of aircraft kits.
Given the extent and quality of the displays, the admission charge is excellent value for money.
F. W.
Nice, friendly and informative. To see development and engineering feats like the jets on display was a pleasure, was especially drawn to the arises rescue helicopters. The chance to sit in cockpits and see the exhibits up close was great too.
L. D.
Nice friendly museum, predominantly nose sections of aircraft especially Canberras with a lot of helicopters. Big section on the Falklands war. Museum Includes a Mk3 lightning I worked on around 1969. Unfortunately there was not of aircraft for the grandsons to sit in but I understand they do have special days when more access is offered. We all enjoyed a few hours here including the indoor displays.
R. H.
Warm welcome. Very enjoyable. Lots to see and digest.
l. c.
Went with the grandkids.lovely place really enjoyed it.pricing good.cost£15 for 2 adults & up to 3 kids.kids loved the massive old planes & the air raid shelter.lovely little museum round the back aswell.nearly missed it though if i hadnt have needed the toilet.activities for the kids aswell.
G.
Top place especially if you are a fan of Falklands conflict era aircraft, there are so many aircraft to see and the staff are so friendly and knowledgable, guided tours are available including some opportunities to get in the cockpit of various aircraft including a vulcan cockpit.
Bonus for any fans of engineering as there are many many engines jet and propeller that are lying around to be admired, examined and investigated.
Plenty of parking and easy to find and adult ticks are on £7.50 overall a brilliant place to spend a few hours
S. F.
Not a bad little air museum. Feel it could use a little tlc as in the main hanger it is quite dusty and just generally needing a bit of upkeep.
It's not huge but will take a couple of hours of your time.
F. B.
Went when it was open cockpit weekend. Had a lovely few hours. Everyone loved it. Lots to see and do. Staff friendly, helpful and informative. A hidden treasure.
C. M.
Brilliant museum in Doncaster, with some really interesting and interactive features. In particular the cockpits that you can get into - fun for big and little kids!
R.
First visit here and loved it. Very informative insight in two aspects of aviation that played so much in our nation's history that is right on our door step that we had know idea about. A profound learning experience.
D. T.
Outstanding Museum of Aircraft from the ages
Our family had a very good day there
- The price is very good for the amount you can see
- Members of staff are great, Friendly and helpful
- The shop is nice where you can by Airfix and toys for kids
- It would be nice if they had an on site cafe.
- They do sell small snacks and drinks
- Plenty of Parking
- There is a few open cockpit aircraft where you can jump inside. Thats great
- There was a gentleman in military gear who showed us the military equipment a typical soldier would carry.
- There are rooms with various staged props of world war history, military uniforms etc... very interesting.
B. N.

D. G.
Lovely place to visit.
M.
Love the place. My children love it too. Very small place but so much packed in.
B. A. A.
What a fantastic place! So many things to see. The staff is full of knowledge about all the aircraft. So full of history in here.
J. B.
Would recommend this for all ages! Great for a family day out, and prices very reasonable. So much information to take in and amazing aircraft! Things to interact with, cockpits to sit in and a little simulator too! This place is so interesting and has the friendliest staff on entry and around the museum. The gift shop has great products and model aircraft for cheap prices!
A. S.
Enjoyed the visit. Doesn't cost alot, however not a full day out. 2 hours if that and you've seen it all
H. R.
Fantastic experience today, the lady on the reception was wonderful with the children. They had an Easter egg hunt competition, which made it more fun for the kids. Fantastic day out, highly recommended
A. “. B.
It has a good collection of aircraft. A good place to take kids. They have a flight simulation which kids would love.
A. W.
A wealth of information displayed alongside the many exhibits both inside and out. Friendly staff and a shop with modellers in mind. Family friendly with occasional open cockpit days!

Fantastic little museum. Not the biggest in terms of area covered but what there is is well presented and easily accessible.
A. d. G.
Amazing place. Lovely staff, and friendly engineer's. We walked past the folks restoring the Vulcan cockpit, and they offered our little boy a look up inside! Really down the earth place.
S. W.

A. G.
What a discovery. Never seen so much in a relatively small area. Spent hours just wandering round. Great fun.
m. d.
Vast variety of exhibits, lots of interactive exhibits to keep kids entertained. Will definitely be returning!
M. C.
Not a huge place but alot packed in our Grandson loved it especially being able to sit in a cockpit. He loved the Biplane too as he is obsessed with them.
H. D.
Lovely museum. Friendly and helpful staff. Great value for money!
A. F.
Such an enjoyable place, very knowledgeable staff and lovely exhibits, go on an open cockpit day
A. W.
Lots of wows from my 10 year old grandson. Friendly helpful staff and volunteers
P. B.
Amazing day out for little ones. Really educational and also fun. More people should know about it.
J. O. W.
Great for a couple of hours of aviation education. Well worth the visit, very knowledgeable volunteers.
M. G.
Plenty to see and do. The grandchildren enjoyed the cockpit experiences and the simulators. We also did the Easter trail. Could benefit from a proper cafe then we may have stayed longer and spent more money.
J. S.
An extensive collection of memorabilia, some of the exhibits can be sat in. Very good value for money.
B. A.
Excellent displays. Plenty of variety from cockpits to helicopters plus historical displays, such as wartime and history of flight. Not really a plane enthusiast but thoroughly recommend this experience.
g. b.
Really good place to bring children, very good value for money
£16.50 for family ticket
T. S.
Very nice museum , loads to do and see whatever the weather.
A. W.
A Great day out, for you or the family, all kinds of aircraft, helicopter, cockpits you can sat in as well. Loads to see. Well impressed.

Me and my children have been here LOADS, well worth a visit whatever your age. Never gets boring and for the price you can’t knock it at all 👌🙌
m. s.
My third visit, love coming back here when in the area. Staff very friendly and knowledgeable
S. M.
Fab afternoon out little one loved it some bits not working which was a shame but being able to go in the cockpits and see a new plane they are working on made his day (even I at 28 went in some)
f.
Found this place completely by accident and what a find. Place is packed with bit n bobs and history galore... if your in the Doncaster area and like aviation you must, must drop by for a visit!
P. A.
Had a great night on the ghost hunt . But the aircraft hangor was very cold it was warmer outside than in the Hangor but it the time of year . Plenty to do and see . Great night with great people .
R. M.
A fabulous place. Far more exhibits than we were expecting and lots of details. Will definitely be back
m. g.
Had a lovely few hours at the museum. Good history section from the Forklands war. My daughter hadn't even heard about it so it not even the sinking of HMS Sheffield. I was about her age when the war started.
A. K. Á.
Nice museum to visit, there is so.many things to see, kids thoroughly enjoyed it too.
P. W.
Much bigger than i expected spent an hour and a half looking around but you could easily spend a lot longer there reading all of the information
d. g.
Most enjoyable visit considering I have flown in most of the helicopters . Well worth the entrance fee ? Will recommend to my friends.
A. G.
Interesting place though a bit pricey has a run down feel about the place, has lots of potential but not utilized such a shame considering its royal air force pedigree
d. s.
Great place, loved every minute. Went with the family and the grandchildren loved it. You HAVE to wear a face mask, so if you have issues with this, don't visit until the restrictions are lifted, but put it on your too do list. 👍
k. s.
Lovely museum. Lots to see. Perfect for all ages.
N. R.
Some great exhibits thoughtfully put together with a good deal of charm. If you like aircraft and history definitely worth a visit.
P. D. (.
An incredible selection of Planes, Helicopters and Machinery, all somehow managing to fit within the space. An excellent day out, very enjoyable and educational.
They have everything from Jets, Helicopters, Planes, Bombs, Engines, Trucks and all the parts involved with making these. They even have a fantastic area full of historical items and information, not to forget the 1:96 scale model of an Aircraft Carrier, nestled between more stunning exhibits
C. B.
Excellent Museum!! Staff are overjoyed to speak with you on their Exhibits! First hand experience discussing the details of the Vulcan Bomber Cockpit.
I pre-booked the visit post Christmas. The night before visiting I decided to look at the website & Unfortunately slipped into the fatal trap of Assumptions!!! Thinking not to expect much!!! How wrong could anyone ever be!!!! As I had previously purchased the tickets (possibly might have not gone) I visited the Museum!!!
OMFG! I would have kicked myself in hindsight if I hadn't taken the time to check it out!!
It's a Great little gem of a place tucked away in the sprawling Lakeside complex, it's close to All amenities including shopping that folks normally go for! Lol 5mins away from M18/A1!!
I am so Glad I visited the Museum!!! I would defo recommend a visit, if you are ever close to Doncaster!!!
Don't bother looking at the website (Pictures) except to grab the Address!! Just, get yourself there!!! & Enjoy All that is Aircraft!!!
Two hours we'll spent!!!!!
B. M. A.
Amazing place ,a hidden treasure, go you won't be disappointed,we was shocked at how big it actually is,more people need to know about this place, lovely helpful knowledgeable staff, lots for kids and adults alike to do and explore ,I really think there undercharging ,we will be back

D. S.
Fantastic value for money, some really interesting displays and some brilliant looking aircraft
S. W.
Lovely place to go with the kids, spent a good couple of hours there. Loads to see and things for the kids to do
M. L.
Had a good couple of hours strolling around. Lots to see. Didn't try the cafe. Something different.
C. L.
Great place, smaller than similar sites like Newark, but great otherwise. Lots of history, plenty of information.
a. “. h.
Very informative, plenty of excellent displays, cheerful friendly staff.
J. D.
Very interesting museum of aviation memrobeliar, had a very enjoyable few hours visiting with my grandchildren and their scouting groups.
J. T.
Great place to visit. Can be a bit of a wait on certain things
C. P. (.
Lots to see and do for a few hours. Don't let the outside put you off as some planes look in need though inside there is plenty to see and we'll restored. The museum is a lot bigger than it looks on the outside and a few helicopters which children can sit in as well as a Flight Simulator which was fun.
G. L.
A good day out with great examples of historic aircraft. The museum seeks to preserve and restore aircraft, and has knowledgeable volunteers working hard to present interesting and insightful information. Good facilities with a shop and refreshments alongside copious car parking. Interesting for all the family.
D. S.
Not usually my type of thing but it was quite interesting my husband enjoyed it more. We went more for him, seems small at first but it's a lot bigger than it appears. Staff very nice, toilets on site, museum shop, reasonably priced.
w. f.
Brilliant, such care and attention has gone into all the exhibits and the love and affection for past service men and women really shines through. Some fascinating exhibits, it might not be the most modern and polished museum you ever visit, but if you have an interest in military and aviation history and pride in our armed services you will love it like I did.
R. D. M. (.
Great for a few hours with the kids, very informative and being honest can be very emotional with the section about the second world war. Very good to teach you about the real cost of war. Definitely worth the entrance fee.
D. P.
Nice little museum with plenty of interesting things to see
N. H.
We took our Beavers, Cubs and Explorer Scouts here on Easter Saturday. The young people thoroughly enjoyed themselves, as did the young at heart people!
M. J.
Nice museum, very interesting and there is lots to look at. They give you a lot of advice
N. A.
Absolutely fantastic. Really interesting and informative day out!
L. C.
Not a bad place, they could do with more room though because the exhibits are really squeezed in tight, maybe make use of the big field out front and put some of the full aeroplanes / helicopters on there?
Gift shop is well stocked with a good array of toys and models for both big and little kids.
R. M.
My wife, 15 year old son and I had a good 3 hours here. There are a lot of whole and part sections of mainly British planes, plane parts, and a lot of information to read if you like technical detail. There is also a lot of information about WW2 including clothing and family life.
Mainly inside, it's good for a grey day, but you do have to cross between buildings.
There are toilets and a selection of food and drink.
D. W.
Great place for the kids to see helicopters and airplanes
M. “. B.
Full of historic information and beautiful aircraft, friendly and welcoming staff and a bunch of activities to do including flight simulators etc.
M. G.
Excellent visit. Good family ticket price. Kids loved the access to exhibits. Very hands on. Will be going again.
J. D.
The posted opening times are misleading because the last entry is 1 hour before close. This is mentioned on the website, but not on Google etc.
G. G.
Enjoyable day out with a friendly vibe, loved the open cockpits
M. K.
An excellent museum. Nice range of aircraft and parts, which helped put things into context or help tell history of development. Much bigger than we thought. Staff were friendly.
H. L.
The Air Crafts in this Museum’s historical collection is a great representation of British history !
S. L.
Fantastic place! The staff and volunteers were all lovely and had a vast knowledge of all the aircraft and their history. We took 4 very young children and expected them to be bored withing 5 minutes but they really enjoyed it! (Almost as much as my husband) We will certainly be returning.
C. S.
Brilliant museum , with a plethora of aircraft and cockpits and an amazing amount of artifacts. Also very pleasant staff . My time there did not do it justice.
B. H.
Great place for a few hours out .ample parking
m. w.
Amazing pieces of history, very interesting and hands on.
D. C.
What an absolute gem of a museum you could spend hours exploring all the exhibits they have it far exceeded what I expected, Lady on the entrance was fantastic friendly helpful and had a gorgeous dog ! If I'm in the area again I'll definitely come back.
r. p.
Kids and myself really enjoyed our visit so many different things to see, plus there is some new exhibits since our last visit. Wonderful friendly knowledgeable staff. Great place to visit, highly recommend.
J. L.
Great place. Tucked a little out of the way but well worth a visit.
T. B.
fab air museum.. nice little cafe and shop too. recommend
M. T.
Nice little place to visit for kids and adults that like aviation
J. K.
Brilliant a very enjoyable afternoon and great friendly staff
P. B.
Quite a lot too see well done can sit in a few of the exhibits + there's a simulator didn't use so don't know what it was like
R. M. w. G.
Amazing place and jam packed with lots to see. Staff are friendly and informative. I would highly recommend this gem of a place to visit as it's well worth it and we shall definitely be going back there again. Thank you for a great day out!
P. H.
Great place to visit. On arrival we were greeted by a friendly and knowledgeable member of staff. Some nice exhibits, lovely picnic area. Well worth a visit 👍
V. S.
We had a great morning here, there's so much to look at and to read on the displays. We are looking forward to an open cockpit day and a sit it the front of the Vulcan (this is not a complete aircraft) a great little place, especially for the history.
S. P.
Depending on your perspective, you could either say 'they've packed a lot into a small space' or 'it's somewhat cluttered'. Either way, there's a lot to see. Many of the aircraft are a bit tatty but under restoration. Few fully intact airplanes but lots of front sections. However lots of Helecopters. Not much oppertunity to interact or get in the cockpits. But overall, it's well worth the entry fee.
j. k.
Very impressed with the quantity and quality of the equipment on show at the museum. All staff are friendly and helpful. Only gripe is that my son was desperate to go on the vulcan and it was closed.
D. R.
There was alot more than I'd expected. Good value for money and i loved the fact you could sit in some of the cockpits!
C. N.
Excellent place to visit but will need to go back again to see everything properly
R. S.
Really good trip out, loved seeing the planes, great layout and exhibits. Learned loads about the local aviation history too.
j. e.
Pretty good ...nice and amateur not corporate.TBH needs a good sort out nice mix of Army aviation fleet air arm and junior service.Suprised to find out there are very few ex service in the staff.Clearly need a lottery win but would recommend a visit regardless.Loved the SK mk4 instrument panel....my finger prints will be on it somewhere😁
A. H.
I took my two grandsons to the museum and we had a brilliant time there, we had 1.75 hrs there but could have easily had longer however the place was closing, I shall go again on my own very soon as would enjoy Going around all the displays & reading them as well as looking round the various aircraft etc, well priced & a great time was had.
F. P.
Lots to see especially if you like helicopters. A shame a volunteer museum can't stretch to a cafe but excellent value for money.
K. H.
Wow. A junkyard of amazing finds. Went with reasonable expectations, came away feeling like we'd only seen a fraction of what was on offer. Brilliant.
R. H.
Too many covid restrictions in place still, if not would be a five star but sick of being policed by people, if people are scared of the flu, they can choose not to sit in the planes, the rest of the critical thinkers can carry on as normal. Cool plane collection though. Really nice staff too.
r.
Wow alot in a small place excellent
P. T.
Great day out. Covid obviously reduced the experience of sitting inside some of the aircraft. This didn't stop the kids loving the experience. From out 2 year old to our 12 year old. Go see this little gem.
P. D.
kids loved it and nice place for photos
m. j.
So much more than we expected, spent 2hrs here, could easily spend more, so much to see and read, a real gem and we bought some very reasonable priced prints in the shop, we are on holiday and both agreed if we are this way again we will definitely make a return visit and at £6.50 is worth every penny.
g. w.
Lovely interesting place. Lots to look at
H. A. g.
Excellent air museum. Very interesting.
A. O.
Lovely place to go, but couldn't sit in most of the cockpits you normally can due to covid restrictions, would of given 5 stars otherwise, will be going again though. I would recommend.
R.
Really great day out yesterday. All the staff were lovely and informative, especially the woman on the front. Felt very safe and lots of cleaning stations dotted around. We will definitely be visiting again!
A. H.
Fantastic price fantastic staff hidden gem
P. C.
Excellent museum. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The kids keep talking about learning Morse Code and tapping out their names with the Radio Amateur in his shack. Loads and loads to see and read about. Small cafe, latte was only £1.50 and lovely - fill your boots. All the volunteers were excellent and very friendly. Happy to talk yo visitors and answer questions. Think we will be back in 2020 to one of the open cockpit days.
G. H.
a hidden gem of a museum, a friendly museum with plenty of aircraft to see and plenty to explore fun for the family and for the aviation enthusiast
S. G.
Very nice and informative. Would visit again.
A. L.
Super day out in this hidden gem on what's left of the old Doncaster airfield. I used public transport to visit, bus to Doncaster dome and then the short walk to the museum which was very easy to find. Site has a large free car park and they warn you may need to check on a map as sat nav can be a little misleading. The staff were first class, brilliant, knowledgeable and very willing to help or chat. just for that would get the 5 stars. The site looks small but once in there's just so much to see. Lots of information boards, hands on exhibits and open cockpits. Its set out with not to much polish which is a great way to see this stuff - warts and all with most of the kit in original condition. The site has several M/F and disabled toilets and is mainly flat with only a small area up stairs. There's plenty of places to picnic with a small cafe selling hot/cold drinks and snacks. In the shop there are plenty of children's souvenirs or advanced models for the collector. A great visit for any and all ages and as a lot of it is undercover not weather dependant. Can take a couple of hours.
T. O.
Was an amazing day out. My partner and 9 year old was utterly pleased with the museum and it's interesting exhibits. Also a good place to visit for children with special needs however some exhibits are not wheelchair friendly, as in they are aircraft cockpits etc that is no fault of the museum. What an interesting day out.
S. B.
Went today with my eight year old son. It was £10 for our entry and we both had a great experience. There are some poor reviews which i think are unjustified. We spent over two hours here and thoroughly enjoyed it despite it being cold. I could moan that the hangers weren't heated but for the admission cost that would be unfair. 😊👍
m. R.
It was a great place to visit and stay
M. O.
It was an absolute great experience. Would definitely recommend if you want to spend a few hours learning about British aircrafts and history.
E. B.
Great place for all ages and perfect if you like your aircraft history
l. e.
Good day out , able to touch and sit in some cockpits. Good explanation of where and how things were used . Good Falklands display.
L. S.
Enjoyed looking at the air planes and helicopters - my personal highlight was the engine room 😍 Good day out during half term - there is lots of info but also interactive things like going in the cockpit and dressing up for kids. The staff were fantastic; they were welcoming, accomaditng and willing to help
M. C.
A great selection of aircraft and displays to view, I was particularly impressed with the Gazelle helicopter which had been restored from a wreck. Very interesting and informative with friendly and helpful staff. Will definitely visit again.
R. s.
Love this place , Great for the kids and family Brings history to life 5 stars
A. B.
Small museum but well worth a visit
K. B.
Brilliant, friendly staff great place to explore and learn
J. M.
Hidden gem in the middle of Doncaster. Lots of hands on stuff including open cockpits for the budding pilot.
The staff can not do enough for you, taking time to talk about their own experiences and even open up other planes for the kids to explore.
Really competitive ticket pricing. Was just under £30 for 3 under 10s and 4 adults. The youngsters loved it even though they had no immediate interest in aircraft.
Really worth a visit. Its a great half day out. Plenty do do around to make a day of it.
A. S.
Took my dad here first time either of us been. Place is full of interesting sets and planes and helicopters. Was definitely worth the trip and my dad loved it especially as they had a great example of a meteor which my dad used to work on
M. W.
Have been here twice now and just love it. Yeah at this time of year it's a bit chilly and some displays have condensation but to be expected. There are lots of military aircraft and vehicles and some the kids can sit in. The staff are amazing and it must be such an honour for the skilled volunteers to use their skills and knowledge to restore these amazing exhibits. Great airfix stuff in the shop too.
T. H.
It was amazing and so big, we went inside the Vulcan and a volunteer told us all about the history, his depth of knowledge was excellent. My only recommendation is to go when it's warmer cos it was very cold especially in the hangar and we had ensured we wrapped up well but at some point we was just too cold so upped the pace a bit. We shall go back on a hotter day. Absolutely loved it, so much history
S. O.
This place is a hidden gem. My kids really enjoyed seeing the various aircraft. They had a go at the flight simulator which was also quite enjoyable.
L. B.
Just finished our annual visit to the museum. Safety precautions well done. New exhibits and renovation taking place. My only criticism is the Union flag on the car park flag pole is upside down. Unforgivable!!
M. T.
Very good displays, more than I expected
p. b.
Very good price. Lots to look at.
A. M.
Great place for a day out
C. A.
The outside could do with a bit of a spruce up since it looks a bit tired, but overall good.
L. K.
Fabulous venue. Lots to see and very knowledgeable volunteers staffing the venue. We were able to rally on site so had access to a lot of the exhibits after the museum closed to the public. Really enjoyed our weekend visit and will definitely be going back next year.
D. C.
A little out of the way but we'll worth a visit. Very interesting and very fry people.
M. B.
Kids loved, especially playing with everything.
They have sanitizing stations at every craft or vehicle you Interact with which I thought was fantastic!
Will definitely visit again.
P. W.
Amazing museum friendly staff and a very interesting period of history.
j. w.
Nice place with so many aircrafts. I didn't expect it will be so interesting.
K. F.
First visit. Its quite small but has lots of exhibits crammed in. Plenty of jet engines to admire which I have interest in, particularly the early models. Good value and a great cup of tea in the cafe.
K. P.
So much bigger then expected loads to read and look at and can even get in some cockpits
K. B.
We took our two children here and they loved it. Prices are very reasonable for families with little ones. Lots of cockpits to sit in and staff went out of their way to help, even letting our 5 year old sit in the Vulcan that they were restoring.
M. B.
Lots to see, kids can enter some cockpits and play. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Spent 2 and a half hours walking around taking photos, with a coffee break too!
L. K.
Brilliant exhibits. Lots of work being done to restore each item. Very informative volunteers to help during your visit. We were lucky to be able to stop on site which gave us a whole weekend to explore. Will definitely be back next year.
S. J.
Great place to visit with or without children, plenty of amazing aircraft to view. Opportunity to sit inside cockpits and talk to staff for plenty of info about the aircraft. Usually takes about 2-3 hours to look around with children. Recommended for something abit different.
K. S.
A nice place to spend few hours.
c. e.
Great place to visit if you're into aviation , lots of interesting exhibits 👍
s. u.
It was good experience, I was very surprised, I underestimated it but really good for kids to learn history in a good way and adults too.
B. W.
Very interesting place to spend a couple of hours.Plenty of people to ask re information. Some interactive consoles to fly a helicopter and light plane plus videos on the history of flight and wartime aircraft etc and also you can get into the cockpit in a couple of planes.
There is a nice little cafe there and a small gift shop.
j. b.
Interesting place to visit if you have an interest in all types of planes. Mostly miletery planes. Most undergoing renovation. Good place to take kids. Bigger than it looks. Lots of detailed information on Falklands War, WW2 and life during these times
E. D.
A great little out of the way place, not too commercial or marketed and a great day out for families who want to educate as well as entertain!!
D. N.
There was so much to do and see here, with so much information to take in, we simply did not have enough time with the 1/2 day we allowed for this.
The staff, all volunteers, were very knowledgeable, and willing to share their stories of restoration challenges and how things actually worked. They even took the time to explain it in simple terms to the most mentally challenged in our group, me :)
C. W.
Surprised how good and reasonably priced this was
R. C.
Excellent proper 'working' museum with many restoration projects underway. Things for the kids to do like sitting in some of the cockpits. Shop full of Airfix kits and other aircraft - related stuff. Definitely worth a visit
D. R.
Nice day out for the kids, my little boy loved it! Staff were so friendly and were happy to share their knowledge, which had the kids listening intently and asking lots of questions. Looking forward to going again!
G. R.
Great little hidden away museum. Friendly staff and interesting exhibits.
А. Б.
Interesting place for everyone.
R. W.
Wow what a eye opener 😳 great place could have stayed all day absolutely fascinating how on earth did they but this together. Well done family run business 👏 👍 👌 🙌
A. P.
Brilliant place, really friendly staff, always have time to chat, nothing is to much trouble, and they are a wealth of knowledge. It's a must visit, weve had many returns over the years....
C. B.
Surprising collection in the middle of Doncaster. Good number of Westland helicopters and Falkland relics.
S. A.
Visiting from Australia and staying with family close by and looking for somewhere interesting to go. A really interesting place. I particulary enjoyed the displays in Shed 21 and the letters from people who experienced the Blitz. Also the information regarding the Falklands War. My husband liked the WW1 exhibits.
M. J.
Very nice place with funny and welcoming staff members. They even let us inside aircraft that is still under restoration. It was very interesting to view all the planes and some of them i cold even touch and get in. I was visiting museum at october and it was quite cold in there so be prepared.
S. W.
Had a really interesting visit to the museum. Lots of interesting aircraft and memorabilia and friendly, helpful staff. Will visit again.
S. G.
This museum is not full of polished exhibits but don't let that put you off. You can get up close to most of the aircraft there and there are plenty of open cockpits to climb in to including the Vulcan. There is a treasure trove of aircraft parts and memorabilia for the enthusiast. Worth a visit and just wander and drink in some aviation history.
R. S.
This is a nice place to go if you like planes. My initiall impression was of the very friendly staff and was really impressed.
The exhibition seemed a little jumbled at first, and it's true there isn't a great deal of order to some of it, which is probably due to lack of space, however it does mean that part of the fun is switching from one thing to another reading about the in-depth historys that the museum has on each piece,
What was a surprise was the section on the Falklands. I have just finished a book about a Commando unit during the war so it was interesting to see the air side of it in the museum.
It was also good to see all of my favourite aircraft there, even if some of them were only in cockpit form.
When I was there there was the chance to get into a Vulcan cockpit, which is always pretty impressive. This is one of my favourites that they only have a cockpit of but still, any chance to get into a cockpit is fun. They have cockpit days for other things too, so if this is something you're after I would recommend giving them a call as I don't think this is something that is available all the time.
One little gem was the room with two flight sims in the corner of the hall. Just essentially PC games, but still fun none the less, especially since the helicopter sim has a collective stick, so you're more or less flying it like a real helicopter.
Oh and if you're into your kit models, then they have a load of them in the shop.
All in all a great day out.
A. K.
A gem of a museum. Open cockpit days are amazing as one can actually get to sit in the cockpit of these historic aircraft including a Sea Harrier, Tornado, Canberra to just name a few. Don't miss this museum if you are an aircraft enthusiast or just want a good day out with the kids. Highly recommend it. The staff who are all volunteers are ever so welcoming and ready to have a chat!!!
M. I.
This place is a little Treasure trove of military aircraft, helicopters and all things to do with war... You'll not be disappointed with how small it is as it packs in everything in such a good way you'll be entertained for a good few hours... Only very small portion is closed due to covid and the entry price is very accomadting with whats on offer... Please support these places as they rely on us to visit them......
P. S.
Lovely little air museum. Lots of cockpits of various aircraft, Canberra Avenue which has lots of Canberra cockpits of a variety of models. There's a nice Falklands section too. Definitely worth the entry fee. A small shop too with drinks etc available.
N. T.
Excellent day out, friendly knowledgeable staff, lots of very impressive aircrafts. Loads to do for kids, flight simulators, real cockpits to play in and sending morse code messages. Highly recommended, cheap day out and underrated, we'll definitely visit again.
S. C.
More to see than we expected. Worth another visit. Brighter clearer signage needed in some places to ensure nothing missed. How about a drink machine too - I didn't miss seeing one did I?
I.
Had a great afternoon here today. There are plenty of aircraft / nose sections several of which were open cockpits (not just the kids that like sitting in them) and a larger display of engines than I've seen at any other aircraft museum. Also had a great talk with a guy demonstrating morse code who used to be a submariner. Definitely worth a visit.
G. S.
Second time we have been and it didn't disappoint children enjoyed it
D. D. Z.
This museum is a must if you are interested in aviation or just fancy a day out. They have many exhibits dating back to the early days of flight and wartime days, both WW1 and WW2. They have a shop where you can purchase models and souvenirs, you can also purchase light refreshments which look very tasty. If you are in the Doncaster area give them a visit, I don't think you will ne disappointed.
G. H.
An interesting museum, with a variety of exhibits. As well as some interesting aircraft, there is a section on the Falklands conflict, a 'hut' containing a great deal of information on the local area during war time and a lot of things to interest younger visitors.
Staff were all very friendly (and they serve a pretty good cup of tea !)
N. W.
Excellent museum and friendly staff, Bill one of the volunteer's was wonderfully helpful as was another volunteer talking about restoring a Dragonfly helicopter.
J. S.
Amazing amount of exhibits
S. C.
If you fancy a trip out with the family, even if your not avid plane fans this place still is well worth the admission price. Loads of planes, engines, and memorabilia. And as we walked round the place just got bigger. Theres also simulaters that are set up kid friendly to fly a helicopter or a plane. Also this is the most hands on museum I've ever been to you can touch almost everything and most planes are open cockpit so you can sit inside them . Honestly one of the best types of these museums I've been too and super cheap entry price
N. S.
Lots to see, bigger then expected. Well located with plenty to do in the area and ample parking.
e. c.
Great place, full of history. Kids loved seeing all the planes and being able to sit in some of the cockpits! Interesting to learn about local heritage. Although small, a great day out for kids and adults alike.
A. R.
Always changing and a very good place for aviation enthusiasts as the museum is quiet except on open cockpit days. Staff are polite and knowledgeable, the exhibit are changing constantly along with the condition, some aircraft need a new paint job and reassembling such as the lightning, harrier and DC-3. It's a hidden Jem and being on the original site of a forgotten RAF Base (RAF Doncaster). Worth a visit.
C. H.
Popped in on 19.07.2020 great afternoon visit, plenty to see and lots more exhibits outside. Hand sanitiser everywhere and a well signposted trail throughout will be back.
D. C.
I spent a few hours here with my 4 year old son. We had a great time, and it's really worth the entry fee, brilliant value. My son particularly liked the flying simulator (even though it's just a Microsoft Flight Simulator).
B. C.
Small, but filled a couple of hours, staff helpful and welcoming, didn't mind my crazy questions.
M. P.
Really loved it here not your usual museum, you can actually get up close and see inside the aircraft workings. Friendly staff. Great selection of aircraft models to choose from in the shop.
E. s.
So impressed with this place, my two little boys loved it. So much to see and do. Staff were fantastic and we will be visiting again next time we are in Yorkshire
S. M.
Brilliant day out, we were there three hours and still missed lots of things, great value.
M. R.
An interesting place to visit and offers value for money. If you have an interest in planes/aviation and have a spare 2/3 hours this is a good place to go.
J. L.
Excellent Museum, had a lot more than expected. My kids got to sit in planes and dress up in the costume room. I will be coming back but next time I will make sure I have a full day to explore everywhere.
K. V.
Interesting afternoon out. Well worth a visit. We went with our 11yr old grandson. There's lots to see and experience. It's not so big you get lost going round. Most of it was under cover. There is a small cafe and shop there too. Well worth a visit.
P. J.
We camped there a great charity run experience, so much information. A GREAT DAY out.
R. T.
A good place to take children, plenty of military aircraft some open for inspection.
S. L.
First visit today, with my 2 year old little boy who LOVES Aeroplanes and Helicopters.
We both loved every minute! It’s a great place, and SO much to see! It was a lovely afternoon 🌟
W. R.
When you arrive at the museum, following your nav set, you wonder 'Have I arrived at a scrapheap?' But when you find the entrance a real gem opens up for your eyes! This great collection is taken care of with much love. You'll see a nice collection of full planes, fuselages and interesting parts of aircraft. Standing next to the tail of a Typhoon II is impressive, as well as seeing the bomb-bay door of a Lancaster. And I never new there were so many variants of the Canberra! This museum is really a must-see!
R. S.
There is still a lot of work to do for the people who look after this museum.
I see great potential here.
Definitely worth visiting.
G. E.
For a small place very good worth spending a couple hours
M. m.
Great museum. Interesting collecting spanning early 1900s to present .
Staff friendly and helpful. Highly recommend
M. M.
Lots to see, but it does help if you know a bit about aircraft and helicopters before you go. Cold in winter And limited refreshments. Helpful staff great to sit in the cockpit s
W. K.
Wow really kool place to take the kids and explain to them the good old days nice open area for lunch, theres toilets some aircrafts they can sit in and lots more would 100% recommend thankyou
G. M.
Well worth a visit a lot bigger than I expected and very interesting my 3year old grandson loved it
E. B.
Loved our little trip here today my 3 year old son is obsessed with aeroplanes and helicopters and he absolutely loved it running around looking at all the brilliant and old planes and also getting to sit in some aswell and he loved dressing up trying out all the uniforms I would 1000% suggest to anyone baby or 100 years old to go even if it's only for an hour. My son is flat out already 😂😂
A. L.
Fantastic Museum with exhibits spanning all ages of flight. Kids love it, adults love it. Great helicopter collection and Falklands Conflict exhibit too. 10/10
D. R.
Was brilliant little one loved it
R. S.
Brilliant place to go to look at all the aircraft. Lots of aircraft you can get in too. Not a full day out but lots of places nearby for lunch to make more of a trip of it. Staff were very friendly.
D. B.
Large selection of aircraft, maybe a few too many helicopters. Great amount of people and my young son loved being in all the aircraft. The Morse code radio operator was lovely and spent alot of time explaining his kit. Larger gift shop needed as was cramped as it narrow and also the entrance and exit.
A. S.
Lots of interactive exhibits. Plenty for small children to do. Thanks for a lovely afternoon.
M. S.
Small but some real aviation treasures.Nice to be able to touch an aircraft rather than it being taped off 100 yards away. Friendly staff. Looking forward to going back on a cockpit day with my little boy.
I. H.
Grandson really enjoyed it asking lots of questions and taking laods of photos.
l.
Very interesting place. Lots of fun and very welcoming and approachable staff. Great for a day out with whole family. True gem on Doncaster touriatic map
A. P.
Great attraction for aircraft mad boys, girls or grown ups. Easy to find from motorway and loads of parking.
S.
Free parking, excellent value for money. took 4 boys 16yr, 13yrs, 9 yrs and 5 yrs. they all loved it, loads to see and do.
B. W.
Never knew it was there but worth a look when you pick through some of the lesser bits of the collection. Good displays in the huts. Some of the basic cockpits are open for the children's fun.
A. C.
It's one of the smaller aircraft museum's around who make the best of what they have: lots of noses and cockpit if aircraft.
S. C.
Worth a visit, better than I expected. Found it slightly strange they only keep the nose cones of some planes though.
Plenty of planes for kids to sit in and it's all quite condensed.
D. a. l. t. a. l.
Excellent place been from doncaster myself this place is well worth a visit
C. C.
A well spent rainy afternoon, shame the cafe was closed( covid) will be going back as the kids want to go in all the cockpits ( again covid) some were open with plenty of hand sanitizing stations around, both kids enjoyed it 9 and 16 and the 34year old!
L. N.
Myself and grandson loved our visit..... my grandson said it was amazing and perfect!
My mam loved it too 😍
c. p.
Packed with exhibits. Kids loved the open cockpits
M. S.
Friendly helpful staff.
Didn't feel that the adhered to covid restrictions affected our day .
Keen admission price, well worth a visit .
P. G.
Great time. Plenty to see. Will be back once all restrictions are lifted.
Well worth a visit.
T. M.
I love going here the exhibits are mainly indoor with plenty to look at a real hidden gem in the doncaster area. Admission is really cheap a good way to spend a couple of hours.
O. L.
Great museum. A large number of aircrafts, engines and exposures, for this relatively small museum. Afordable price 6 pounds / adult.
But a lot of moisture in the main hangar this morning, not properly heated.
H. T.
Sadly many exhibits are showing signs of decay. Still however well worth a visit if you're interested in aviation. Shame no cafe open (February 2019)
M. M.
A pleasantly ramshackle air museum - which is how I like it. They have so much stuff, it's wonderful. I like the aero engine collection in the hangar. Good Falklands section. A bunch of aircraft, with a lot of helicopters, both outside and in the hanger. Several nose cockpit sections for Canberras and magnificently, a Vulcan. The shop has loads of model kits and a mug of tea was just a pound when we were there. We will be back.
A. “. L.
Great place I didn't even realise was there and I've been close as it turns out a fair few times. Great few hours spent looking at the planes and helicopters. Plenty of places to sit and have a picnic.
H. H.
What a superb museum. Far more exhibits than one imagines could be accommodated in such a small area of land! As an ex-Raf bod from way back, seeing parts of aircraft I had either worked on, in or around was quite a step back in time! Vulcan nose section undergoing restoration being one example!
N. S.
Its a lovely place for a day out for kids...lots of exhibits...it is also run solely on the ticket sales...with people volunteering to run and restore the exhibits.... definitely recommend it for kids and adults
S. K.
Great selection of exhibits, plenty of helicopters and planes. Enjoyed the gun firing, an unexpected addition to the day. Would definitely come back again
M. W.
We take the grand children here a couple of times per year and it is always a fantastic morning out. This time we got to sit in a Vulcan cockpit. Now that was amazing!
C. G.
Fantastic Aircraft Museum with so much packed in to a small area. Well worth a visit . Has a great model shop too..
s. a.
Great place to go, great variety of planes and engines to look around, perfect for family days out with the kids or even as a day out with out the kids, plenty of intresting stuff inside, great little gift shop at the entrance/exit, would definetly recommend for people with kids and also for anyone who likes planes.

Low key, shoe string but well intentioned and interesting. Friendly volunteers.

We took our grandchild here, what amazing experience it was for her to get close to the aircraft and also interact with some of them too, cant wait to go back.

Despite covid the museum still has a large and varied display and would keep all ages entertained.

S. J.
Wonderful museum , a real hidden gem in Doncaster. Many people not aware that the museum is there. 😞 Well worth a visit !!
L. B.
Brilliant find for an afternoon in Doncaster
P. C.
Small volunteer run aircraft museum. There are lots of little points of interest amongst the many British aircraft. It would take a few visits to see everything even though it's a relatively small museum.
M. S.
Lots of fascinating exhibits and relics here for aviation and WW2 buffs
M. R.
Great aviation museum! Worth a visit.
C. F.
Great place so much to do you think it's a small place but loads to do well recommended and price is good
T. S.
Lovely place. Helpful staff. Just not much to go on under the circumstances. Which is understandable x
D. B.
Good for kids but a bit basic if you're expecting something like the national railway museum or similar.
R. S.
Well worth a visit would definitely recommend, can spend a good couple of hours there, easy to find
J. F.
Lovely museum, lots of aircraft. If I had any kind of constructive criticism it would be that the outside exhibits need a good wash,
G. A.
Visited here on Saturday with the LAAS AGM tour. Excellent place, with most places being allowed for inspection. Great staff and the café food is very reasonable too!
C. C.
Such a great little hidden gem in Doncaster! You’ll need a full day to get all the info read!
V. P.
Excellent museum, far bigger than I thought. A real hidden gem for learning about Doncaster's aviation heritage.
S. W.
Lots to see, definitely worth a visit
m. s.

L.
Extremely interesting museum, there's alot of history and the staff members are really friendly and well informed.
A. S.
Friendly staff and lots to look at, wrap up though if its chilly as there's no heating. However this is not a negative in my opinion.
S. F.
Saw lots of aeroplanes plus kit outlining history of flight and The Royal Air Force - great place to visit with friendly staff. Will visit again.
