S. C.Great place for a rainy day for all the family. Cafe Rosa is excellent for lunch and light bites. Toilet facilities are clean and some excellent information and Arran memorabilia on display.

Warning: The cafe only has 6 tables so you may have to wait for a table to become free before getting food.
N. B. (. J.Quite small, basic but the island history and information is very interesting and makes you want to travel more round the island to see more of what the museum teaches you. You can go round it in about 20 minutes. Ran by a couple who aim to keep the place sustainable, clean and inviting and the garden is quite pretty. There are people to ask about the exhibits in more detail. Wouldnt go again though as you only need to see it once.
K. H.I was lucky to catch this before it closed for the winter. The buildings are great especially the smiddy. The staff/ volunteers were friendly and full of useful info. An easy walk from brodick.

S. C.Great little museum with lots of exhibits to explore on different parts of the history of the island - quite a big focus on war years with many interesting tales. Entry is £4 for adults - or you can pay 50p just to enter the outside areas and visit the cafe. Cafe was also lovely to while away some time on a rainy day. This is a little bit outside town but there are other things to see nearby further up the road and the bus stops outside. Go round the bag and buy a bag of duck food and feed the ducks!

R. H.Beautiful local museum, with helpful and informative (human) guides. There are three tractors and a lot of historic agricultural machinery. There is a crofter's cottage. There are also displays referring to the presence of the Royal Navy during WWII, as well as a map showing the many allied aircraft by that crashed on the mountains of Arran during the war. There is also a sad display of the clearances resulting from the (heartless) drive towards agricultural efficiency.
M. K.A surprisingly extensive collection of information. A wide range of topics covered all very much connected to the island. Enjoyed the trip here a lot and a good way to spend a couple of hours. Great tea room too.

Worth a visit when driving around the island

A great opportunity to start your walk behind the cafe, by the river, then to the Arran golf course. Great small family businesses around. Perfect day out in Arran.
a. h.Looks can be deceiving, this is an amazing little gem. Its so much bigger than I expected and so much more in this museum than a lot I've been too regarding memorabilia from the past. My 2, 13 year old went as it was raining but found themselves loving it. So much to see and learn. Best thing is the kids can touch the items, which sparks their interest even more. Excellent afternoon spent. X

D. M.We wee struggling to find a cafe that had availability for lunch and we were able to have lunch in the museum, at a cost of 50p each instead of full admission. This also got you access to the grounds outdoor, which my little nephew loved, as there was a tractor, boat and train that he could play in. Lovely place!

P. C.Went the first week of November 2018, thoroughly enjoyed looking around the Museum and talking to the friendly , knowledgeable staff, would highly recommend as it is a very informative enjoyable few hours out.
The little cafe makes lovely tasty cakes and the other foods looked tasty also.
Would recommend this also.
A Great Day Had By All.
M. B.Brilliant play area for both under 5s and older children. Beautiful gardens with interesting features and tree ferns and palms due to the gulf stream. Lovely views.
Castle was shut for improvements unfortunately. Good cafe. National Trust members enter for free.
M. C.Fascinating look at island life past and present. All aspects are covered from archaeology to farming, transport, industry and education. There are regular craft demonstrations and enough to entertain kids too, including a real tractor they can play on.
Most of the museum is wheelchair friendly although there are some upstairs exhibition areas.
The cafe is first rate and supplies excellent coffee and home baking.

The reproduction of the school rooms and the farm equipment were great for the kids. It is all laid out in a series of buildings including examples of houses, blacksmiths, schools etc and was really interesting to walk round and read about. I would recommend this place to any Arran visitor.

There's all manner of farming regalia, a blacksmiths forge with video, cottages, school and more plus a shop. Depending on the timing of your visit it is advisable to take mosquito repellant.

So much history is presented in a delightfully simple but truthful way.
The letter from an Isle of Arran man who emigrated, was really moving. All the academic studies of immigration cannot show the human truths and heart ache that was involved. The voice of an Isle of Arran man reads the letter.
He was writing of how his life was in the 'new country' America. He was writing to advise family and friends thinking about following him and making a new life.
The human suffering of separation is crystal clear.
