Really nice to walk around and for a fresh air. Dog walkers/owners can experience much more. There is nice cafeterias around though

Ove Arup designed structure from 1963 manages to combine a concrete functionality with a beautiful natural curve in the banks of the River Wear which is in itself a mass of mature trees set below the towers of Durham Cathedral. The elegance and simplicity of design pulls off a very difficult trick in the position the bridge has been placed of being, at the same time, modern and long lasting with being sympathetic with the beauty of the natural surroundings. It leads you from Elvet Riverside to the pathway between St Chad's College and Hatfield College which is directly below the rose window. There is another path directly from there up to Palace Green where you can enjoy the full experience of the cathedral, Castle and the other ancient buildings surrounding. If you don't have any religious or spiritual beliefs, this remains a place in (now only vaguely) United Kingdom which you must add to the list to visit. The bridge is a good place to start.
