Walk up by the steps it is much quicker max 5minutes up. I would advise going up on a clear evening about an hour before sunset. You get a lovely view of the cities skyline and an amazing sunset there is also a lovely little cafe hut that you can get vegan cakes and nice coffies. We sat and had a little drink and watched the sunset it was magnificent. The monument itself is lovely and you get a great view of aruthers seat. Its really worth it and easy to get too.

Nelson Monument commemorates the death of Admiral Lord Nelson at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. The walk up is quick but is not for the faint of heart. On top of Calton Hill offers panoramic views of Edinburgh. There is a time ball that was added in 1852 and six days a week, the time ball still drops at one o’clock to help enable ships in the Firth of Forth to accurately set their time pieces accurately. The Nelson Monument is offer to the public. I definitely recommend visiting this location.

Superbly built monument on Calton Hill in Edinburgh to the famous English sea Lord whose naval exploits ensured that Britain really did rule the waves during his time. With the National Monument of Scotland only a few metres away and the breathtaking views over Edinburgh and the River Forth on a clear day, this place is only a short walk up from the direction of Princes Street. Well worth the effort!!

Beautiful sights and this is a place worth going to. Calton Hill is amazing and you get to see more than just the Nelson monument. I would recommend this place to everyone. I was here with my kids and husband. We used hours just walking around playing and enjoying the beautiful views. Bring your lunch and sit down and take the a deep breath of loveliness.

The well maintained monument has an exhibition on the main floor, but you can also go up in the tower and enjoy a beautiful view of the city and the surroundings. While going up you can already see the beautiful city though the windows, but the view from the tower top is just breathtaking.

A very interesting museum in the bottom building of the monument with some nice information about the monument and its purpose. If you can make it up the steps there are panoramic views over Edinburgh, well worth the entry cost even on a blustery day.

Wow!! I've been visiting Edinburgh regularly for 20 years and while I've been to Calton Hill before, never made it up the monument until yesterday. What a view! Breathtaking. Beautiful. Awe-inspiring. Absolutely worth the entrance fee and there aren't really that many stairs!

The views from here are awesome. Gives you a great 360 degree view of the city and helps get your bearings on places. The walk up is not too strenuous, depending on how fit you are. I'm not super fit but walk a lot and didn't get puffed just walking at a steady pace. It's well worth the walk.
