A wonderfull memorial commemorating all those that gave their lives during conflicts around the world from all the Scotish regiments and all branches of the services , one of the highlights of the tour of the castle and also one of the most thought provoking.

Scotland's Shrine. This is truly a hallowed place for anyone Scottish - you can almost feel the sacrifice made and I never fail to be moved by a visit here. Words can't really describe how visiting this memorial makes me feel - you have to go and see it for yourself.

The fact that I admire about this place is their meticulous record of the soldiers who sacrificed their lives in WWI (1914-1918).

This section of the castle was by far my favourite. With the magnificent memorial you truly feel the power and commemoration of those who lost their lives fighting for what they loved. The added no photography rule makes this place feel so much more special as to not disturb or disrespect those who laid down their lives.

As others have said, I thought this was one of the highlights of the castle. It's a shame it can't be reached without buying a ticket to enter the castle complex to be more widely appreciated. However, once there, it's a beautiful and moving sight. It's a great tribute to the huge sacrifice made by the many it commemorates. They deserve so much more but certainly no less. It's good that photography is not allowed inside to preserve the solemnity of the building, even though the interior is quite striking.

Austere building to commemorate those in Scotland who participated in WWI.
A casket in the shrine contains books of 1921 listing the war dead from the Great War. These listing are also available for visitors to the Memorial to view.
The stained glass is magnificent and identifies all types of war activities. Interestingly the work of Scotland's women is well represented. Not just those who were nursing at the front, but nurses at home, factory workers and land girls too.
Very moving.

The Scottish National War Memorial is a remembrance place for all fallen Scottish soldiers during the first and second world wars. Inside you can see the different places where Scottish divisions and regiments have fought during those wars. In front of it lay books where you can find all the names of the soldiers that lost their lives. It is a real humbling memorial.

Words cannot do justice to the majesty of the memorial to Scotland's fallen sons of the Great War 1914-18. Truly the highlight of my visit to Scotland.
