Reviews of David Livingstone Birthplace

Thoroughly enjoyed visiting and learning about the great adventurer and his team. The museum has been newly renovated and is fully accessible. Staff are available if you have any questions and there is interactive learning along the way for the kids. Gift shop and cafe available after your experience. There is also a playpark outside for the kids and free parking.

Myself and the kids had a fantastic time lots to learn for the young history buff there is a nice park out side for the young kids and a cafe what is not expensive so you can afford kids meals at $3.50 and tea and coffee etc is cheap what's not to love about a family day out

Revamped museum is so much better than when it was National Trust owned.
Displays are sensitively done and give Africans and Africa their place in the story. His wife is given a lot of credit too.
The cafe is good value for money and food was of a good standard too. Will recommend to others.

For any Malawian the David Livingstone Birrhplace is second home. We have Blantyre in Malawi because of its connection. A great place for scholars who want to know more about the early UK African relations, pre colonial dynamics and almost every topic be it religion, politics and power in modern day Zambia, Malawi, Zimbabwe and parts of Tanzania and Mozambique. Returning here, feels like going home. Warm and wonderful people. Nice cafe and a new exhibition !

The renovation is very well done. The centre is thoughtfully laid out, easily accessible, and the displays interesting and informative. The giudes are helpful and attentive.
The separate building containing the cafe and shop is very well done and the food and drink first class.
Would recommend a visit.

Had a fantastic Mothers day brunch. Lots of choice. I opted for the breakfast and wasn't disappointed! The afternoon tea looked a real treat. Both food and coffee were hot. Definitely recommend and will be back

When we were there late one Sunday afternoon on a wet and cold day it was practically deserted. Lovely staff greeting and full of interesting information, artefacts and other material. While I'd been taught about David Livingston at primary school, it was really great to learn more. Enjoyable exhibition with stuff for the kids too. Definitely recommend going!

It has been updated since I was last there. But everyone who booked for 12 arrived at 12. Not very covid secure, queues of people trying to get through the first bit of the museum. Not ideal.

Really well done and excellent value with free coffee included in the cafe. Lots to see our 4 year old grandson loved the interaction exhibits and has been back since. Feel there could be a bigger play area outside given the amount of space. Pirate ship good but not enough to keep him busy for too long

Excellent visit. Very informative and a vast improvement on previous layout. Much improved access for mobility impaired visitors.

The refurbishment is a TRIUMPH. The true heroic story of a Great Scot is brilliantly on display. The cafe and shop are also excellent.

It's just reopened and still has a few exhibits to be added but can't be faulted. Lots of interesting displays in the museum which is just the right size for the children to enjoy without getting bored. Fantastic little cafe with really nice food and a wee playpark for the children as well as lots of space to run and play and explore. Best of all, was the staff who couldn't be faulted and were incredibly friendly. The waitress in the cafe was incredibly friendly, the receptionist in the museum helped with a wee problem and laughed I was worried as it wasn't even a tiny bit of a problem for her to sort and I wasn't to worry and couldn't have been friendlier and the curator spent ages answering my girls questions and chatting away. Thoroughly pleasant day out.

A few comments about David Livingstone Birthplace, the set up at the entrance and grounds are amazing, the statue is super although strangely ripped for a lion!
The lady that served us was so nice and friendly and informative about the model by the reception and was 10/10 (give that lady a big thanks),
Museum itself was good, definitely put a different slant on the 'He was a missionary' which I know the schools tout, personally the vibe I got was, he didn't want to be a missionary and wasn't a very good doctor, he 'used' both in order to go see the world and explore Africa and..... Fair play to him!
There is a nice connection between him and Southern East Africa and the region, the display is nice, staff were nice.

I appreciate your response and not being, maybe a strange abbreviation within iZettle.
Anyway it was a great facility.

It was a brilliantly displayed atmospheric museum about Blantyre tour de force Dr Livingstone. Thanks to 2 excellent volunteers 🙋♂️ 🦁

So much better than I thought. Spent around 2 hours there plus the time at the new play park outside. Kids enjoyed it lots of cool things to see. Also get free coffee or tea with your admission ticket in the coffee shop at the end. Was a good 3-4 hours

Visited this after recent refurbishment. The exhibition is excellent with a great deal to learn about the Livingstone family and their lives. The space is well laid out and tackling issues of slavery and colonialism well. There is a bit of work still in development. Choices in the café are good and the facilities clean

Looking great, recently had alot work to refurbish the place. Looking forward to alot more visits. Dog friendly, woodland walks, Layla was on an exploration herself. Cafe was nice, staff couldn't do enough for you, visited in the morning, the coffee was delicious and plenty of water out for the dogs. Layla was offered a biscuit too. Looking forward to going back for an afternoon walk because the cakes in the cafe looked delicious 🍰☕🐕👍❤
