Reviews of Glasgow Cathedral
S. H.
There isn't an entry fee into Glasgow Cathedral but believe me you won't hesitate putting money into the donation box on your way out. It is a magnificent place to visit.
The cathedral is breathtaking when you first see it, perfectly positioned with the graves on a steep hill behind it.
There are plenty people around to ask about different things. It is like a tardis with room after room and on different levels. I will let the pictures do the talking, I couldn't do it justice. Give yourself plenty time to see everything.
B. P.
Beautiful building regardless of your faith; Glasgow Cathedral presents an invaluable insight into the city's history and is well worth a visit. The Gothic architecture is even more stunning in person, and there are a number of artifacts and historic areas of the building that are accompanied by descriptions.
T. J.
Pretty cathedral, shame about the neon signs used inside too, I assume, make it more trendy. They only detract from the historic building in my opinion. Definitely worth a visit, especially if you are a fan of Outlander as it has been used heavily in the filming.
Z. “. F.
Impressive cathedral set in a dramatic location below the hill top commentary. Easy walking distance from the CBD for both Cathedral and Necropolis. The exterior belies the richness of the interior.
M.
Defined the most impressive and beautiful architectural historical site I have been at my entire life. Cathedral is gorgeous, really impressive for a 8 century monument, there is nothing like that anywhere.
D. H.
An absolutely stunning example of the respect and adoration for our Savior. So much love and attention to show the risen Savior. Such beauty but nothing compared to what He has prepared for us.
H. T.
A very interesting cathedral, with lots of Scottish history. It is rather dark inside. But the Gothic lines are nice. Unlike many cathedrals, this one has an expired wood roof.
s. p.
Loved every corner of the cathedral. The underground was also beautiful. You must visit this place. Go to necropolis for a nice walk too!
C. C.
Massive cathedral landmark dating from the 12th century (that was built over 350 years). Interesting Victorian necropolis. Well maintained and staffed. Recommended.
P. K.
Amazing place. I loved it inside. One of the best buildings in Glasgow. The elevation of the eastern part was interesting, it is extraordinary and unusual in history of cathedrals.
C. F.
This is free entry and easily accessible entrance. Take note there are no toilets on the premises, the closest ones are a 5 minute walk away and cost 20p.
The cathedral itself benefits from limited numbers for each 30 minute entry, you can book tickets ahead of time for your slot. We went during the Easter holidays and didnt have any queueing but it depends if you want to risk it. There is an audio guide (costs) and this helps to walk you through the rich history including the very early King James bible (on show).
J.
Beautiful building, great piece of history and very atmospheric. My partner and I enjoyed our visit as locals. The staff are very knowledgeable and friendly should you have any questions.
B. R. S.
I will say just big Woooooooow
You just NEED TO GO THERE
YOU NOT GOING TO BE DISAPPOINTED.
I went there with son 10 and daughter 11 , they are enjoying a lot.
Superb superb superb

FANTASTIC HISTORICAL ICON
Towards a 1,000 years old, Scotland's largest place of worship is a ' must-see' when visiting the city. Built around the same time, and in the same area, as Glasgow's now gone Bishop's Castle, the cathedral surely had a few stories to tell throughout the ages. Free entrance to an outstanding piece of gothic architecture, full of interesting historical snapshots.
Do visit and see for yourself.
M. M.
Stunning place to visit. Must if you visit Glasgow. It has a rich history and the architecture is another level.
D. W.
Free, but book your tickets in advance due to indoor rules. An absolutely GORGEOUS cathedral with incredible stained glass windows. A must see.
H. C.
More than 800years historical gothic cathedral, FREE to visit!
Lovely to walk around the room underneath .. must visit when you’re in Glasgow!
A. O.
The cathedral is one of the oldest buildings in Glasgow. We visited it after hearing the history of St Mungo.
The entrance to the cathedral is free but you can donate to the cathedral
We went to St Mungo's tomb
We visited the tombs behind the cathedral
A. B.
It's a really lovely place ,worth a visit if you're in Glasgow, bare in mind you have to book to go into the cathedral itself as they are not letting in without. Also highly recommend the necropolis opposite gives a good view of the cathedral and over the city⛪
R. W.
I've been to quite a few cathedrals in my life, but this visit stood out. The audio guide narrative was outstanding and I learned a lot - not just about Glasgow cathedral, but about cathedrals generally.
I should also commend the staff who were friendly and helpful.
S. H.
If you only can see one thing in Glasgow you must come here. This is one of the most beautiful cathedrals I’ve ever been in. The stain glass is so unique and truly stunning. The outside stone looks almost burnt. They said it was due to the stone being sandstone and during the industrial era the pollution soaked into the porous stone and turned it black. Just a fun fact. The downstairs is beautiful and currently (for COP26) has some cool art exhibits. The staff are incredibly nice. A cannot miss, and after go to the Necropolis.
K. C.
Stunning cathedral with historic remnants of the Catholic and Protestant struggles over the centuries. Older than Notre Dame!Excellent guides.
S. P.
What a beautiful place. Walking distance from Moxy Hotel. We really enjoyed the visit. Entrance is free. A must see place in Glasgow.
A. M.
Very beautiful, calm, and peaceful Cathedral Church with a beautiful Necropolis on a nearby lush green hill. The Church congregation and staff are also very pleasant and humble.
The Church has beautiful gothic architecture and fascinating memorials dating back centuries. It’s said to be the oldest building and church in Glasgow, that was built around the 12th Century. Definitely worth a visit.

No words incredible. Breathing history and magic. Take your time walk and look, let all sink in. We where lucky to hear an organ music. Could just walk in without reservations this time. More chapels (downstairs) where open for visitors.
P. J.
The cathedral was mesmerizing. I was in awe by it's architecture and the details. Glass work was amazing. Must visit once.
a. n.
What a calming and beautiful place. Sat in the church, admired the architecture, spoke to god. I’m at peace:
E. L.
Free of charge and rather stunning but even more amazing is the Cemetery behind the Cathedral...good view point over Glasgow and peaceful walk.
B. W.
It is a great historical place and very beautiful. It is a peaceful place. suitable for resting
B. C.
Fantastic place to visit. Stunning looking .on a sunny day even better
S. S.
This is my first visit to any Cathedral, The Glasgow Cathedral exterior and interior looks very good.
The is very well maintained, and looks mesmerizing, each window glass painting has is own history and significance.
I will recommend if you are planning to visit Glasgow try to visit the Cathedral. And try to book in advance and a time slot.
s. l.
I won’t say much about it, nearly 800 years of history? Pilgrimage site? If you were an UofG student, you must come here. Also, the necropolis nearby is an exciting place to visit.
To add, I had the pleasure of listening to a concert in the church recently. It has excellent interior lighting and acoustics.
A.
If you like old cathedrals and stained glass is a must visit in Glasgow
R. T.
A beautiful church! Free entry (as they should be) and never asked for donations (although I strongly recommend to give something to them as they are not profit oriented anyways)....
Staffs were nice, explaining to us the structure of the building and its history.
There are some souvenirs to buy from as well.
Strongly recommend to be there on your trip in Glasgow
M. F.
Intricate and beautiful! Got to see the amazing view of the cathedral from the Necropolis.
J. K.
***** All Really Are Welcome *****
Attended 11:00 Sun. service. Don’t be put off by ushers in tails. Collar shirt is ok for men.
A. S.
One of the best & historic monuments of Scotland.
Worth visiting.
K. H.
Nice to walk around and you can also go into the basement. All churches are unique and it’s a nice to see the history.
L. W.
Amazing interior and external grounds. It grabs the eye from a long way off.
It's a shame that the lower areas and alter were off limits. I'm sure they could have allowed these to be open with measures in place.
K. S.
M. M.
Spectacular! And yet with a wooden-chalice type humility that reflects Jesus' character.
E.
This is a must see if you are in Glasgow. This is the oldest Cathedral in Scotland from the medieval times that is still intact!
M. H.
A stunning piece of architecture. A truly beautiful building which is a must see for people visiting Glasgow.
A. H.
Great place to visit, not too busy, helpful staff on site, love the religious art and architecture.
Double bonus of the Necropolis right next door
P. J. A. C.
Simply astonishing!
So much history and many details to get lost in.
Free entry and probably the only MUST MUST visit when in Glasgow.
I love it all and I'd recommend people to come with at least 2h to spend in here if they are really into Cathedrals their architectures and all details every wall and window could show.
M. G.
Ancient church about 1 thousand years old! What is not to like. Church was also used by the HBO show game of thrones. Got a few nice sterling silver necklaces at the souvenir shop. This place was worth it! Plus the necropolis is behind it!
N. F.
Beautiful cathedral to visit and especially combined with the necropolis visit!
B. A.
Amazingly beautiful historic church.
D. M.
Take the time to climb to the graveyard for the views, monuments and history.
s. l. (.
Beautiful! it’s a must to visit the cathedral
S. C.
Stunning Cathedral and amazing views from the necropolis
B. O. V.
It was our first visit to this Cathedral Church. Said to be the oldest building and Church in Glasgow. Built prior to 12th Century. It’s Gothic style Scottish Architecture is mesmerising. Till Sixteenth century, it was owned by Roman Catholic Church. It is having services by the Church of Scotland’s Presbytery of Glasgow and in a public ownership. We are grateful to Our Scottish tour guide Ms Dalia Rimkuniene who had given us a detailed explanation and history of this Cathedral. This Cathedral is part of the history of Glasgow and many famous persons of Glasgow’s history are buried here. A must to see at Glasgow!
K. A.
If you're visiting Glasgow, make sure to add Glasgow Cathedral to your itinerary. The architectural beauty and historical significance of this iconic building is unmatched, and the peaceful ambiance provides a welcome respite in the bustling city. A true gem not to be missed.
F. H.
What a wonderful building. Impressive gothic architecture and fascinating memorials inside dating back many centuries. Well worth a visit - especially as entry is free!
It’s about 15 mins walk from Buchanan Street/George Square.
I got the audio guide which was excellent value at £3. I massively recommend this. You just need to have a full phone battery and enough data to access it. I had headphones on me but the nice lady at reception said to not worry if we didn’t have any with us. That was appreciated - I thought it was a very good visitor experience.
There is a one way system which means that the audio guide isn’t in quite the right order, so look out for the signage that tells you which number to listen to.
I booked to visit online in advance - but they also have a sign outside explaining how you can book online via your phone (subject to availability) if you show up without prebooking - though it makes lots more sense just to book in advance if you can.
A. V.
Amazing place to visit when in Glasgow…
E. E.
Maybe not stunning as some other cathedrals but interesting nonetheless. I found the little shop to be better than shops in most other churches.
D. B.
This is our first time in Glasgow and we planned to visit all the sites. The Cathedral was amazing and stands aloft to all the surrounding buildings. The stain glass windows were not the original but fantastic all the same. The staff were all helpful and knowledgeable and I would deffinately recommend a visit.
R. D.
A beautiful and deceptively large cathedral. Definitely worth a visit. Make sure you visit the necropolis for views of the cathedral.
О. Ц.
Unfortunatly, I had too little time.
I'll be back
L.
Unforgivable experience. Don’t forget to visit lower ground floor after the main lobby.
E. K.
I was so sad for couldn’t get in, but at least I admired that architecture!
T. G. O.
Amazing experience! Really huge cathedral. You can buy a book inside with all the history about it. The cathedral is well maintained. You are allowed to access the majority of rooms. The clock inside is unique. Some tombstones have explanations and history. It is a must go to know this place, even if you do not believe in God.
C. C.
Was here for a wedding, excellent venue and lovely day for it definitely helped. Lots of opportunities to take photos and staff very good and knowledgeable also.
T. P.
Beautiful dark cathedral. It reminded me of the large church in Berlin. The epic stain glass windows tell many stories. There’s an underground crypt with art exhibitions and alters. With the necropolis on the hill above the cathedral this was one of our favorite stops in Glasgow.
H. B.
I never have such an open, friendly environment in a cathedral like this one. It's not big but it has warm atmosphere. You will learn a lot about the bishops of England and Scotland. It also has a underground tomb which is also a place for you to express your wish, anger, or any other feelings. The outside view also very beautiful in a sunny day.
I. M.
Beautiful, colorful, helpful staff. I amazed how beautiful it was and the windows.
While my visit, there was a online booking system that I should have book a slot then visit. But I was super fast and just took 2 min to book a slot.
If you get cross, definitely visit
A.
The Cathedral is really nice, worth visiting. It easily reachable by bus as it’s near the centre of Glasgow. Admissions are free with the option to purchase an audio guide. One can also get an amazing view of the Cathedral from the Glasgow Necropolis, so I highly recommend you doing that once you’re there.
W. A.
Totally amazing architecture! I loved the cathedral, and the staff are so kind.
C. W.
An incredible architectural achievement - no visit to Glasgow would be complete without stopping here for a little while at least. The cathedral is very visitor-friendly, with plenty to look at and learn about.
S. L.
Nice old cathedral. Not as grand or big as I thought it might be, but still nice
B. M.
Beautiful old Church. Dark, with fine woodwork and stained glass. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. I was not on a tour, but one of the attendees was nice enough to show me some ancient Hebrew graffiti in the lower crypt. Surprised me to see it in a church so far north. Grounds were well maintained. We were there in the fall, so the church yard with the fall leaves was lovely. Bit of a hike from the city center, take a bus.
N. R.
A wonderful place to visit while in Glasgow. This gorgeous, historical building should not be missed.
E. P.
I was delighted with the majestic construction of the cathedral with green and black tones but the same absurd is to observe the cathedral by the top of the cemetery. A unique view of the city, of respect and full of history. You can read in each campaign the history of the people and what important they contributed to the country 😃 …
A. B.
AMAZING cathedral. Loved it, super cool, gothic cathedral with amazing stained glass windows!! The grounds were nice and Necropolis is right next to it, offering excellent views of the cathedral. The people working inside were super friendly, a must see in Glasgow!!
R. S.
A Gothic cathedral, originally Catholic until the Reformation. Rather dark inside. The stained glass windows are awesome as usual. There is a necropolis on top of a nearby hill that has an eerie appearance from below. There is a Museum of Religion on the grounds that compared the beliefs of the major religions. Very interesting. Across the street is the oldest house in Glasgow, built in 1471.
A. C.
The most interesting thing I’ve seen seen in a while. We went there on Christmas Day expecting to be quiet, but we were wrong. Still an amazing place to go to even if is closed.
Perfect place for a relaxing walk and great views x
J. S.
Beautiful monument, simply love the glass window paintings. The gothic architecture and history is well documented.
O. A.
Kudos to the men and women whose memory were kept and to the generational thinkers that are preserving the memories.
N. H.
Magnificent cathedral...
I am no man of Christ or any belief, but I don't think you have to be to.appreciate this marvelous building.
The guides and such are very friendly :)
M. Z.
Incredibile architecture and a lot of things to see. You can visit for free as no tickets required but you can also book in advance on their website
H. s. a.
A good attraction for tourists, great place for cute pictures and walks. An iconic glasgow monument.
M. M.
Beautiful place with incredible stained glass a great nave and altar, the pulpit is beautifully crafted, the place gives you a sense of peace and serenity even without a private space for reflection given that is an open space....
Great displays of the old bible, the organ is beautiful... free entrance and great photo opportunities...
S.
Loved it... Went with a friend for a different day trip. Its a beautiful peaceful space and the architecture is out of this world. The plaques in memoriam and windows are just stunning.
If you can find a nice quiet space just to enjoy the vaulted ceilings.
J. K.
Glasgow Cathedral is one of the most beautiful buildings I have ever seen. It is breathtaking. If you visit, have a look at the lower ground as well. I atended Watch Night on Christmas Eve and I loved it. If you are an Outlander fan, then you have to visit! It is stunning.
C. B.
Beautiful building and well worth a visit. It’s free to enter.
Amazing place.
d. r.
Nice cathedral, not the best I have been to but still a pleasure to experience such well kept beauty. It is positioned beautifully next to a place of rest with some lovely monuments. Free entry, not pram friendly so will need carrying down and the steps.
F. L.
Was only here briefly, but it's perhaps one of my favorite cathedrals. It's huge and full of details - you can really feel the history by looking at the many plaques on the walls or the glass windows. And it's free to enter so there's really no reason not to visit if you're in Glasgow
S. N.
Beautiful cathedral, free entrance.
S. M.
Nice place to visit while Glasgow.
Walk around took about 20mins. Lots of information
One way system in place
Still need to book tickets even if they have space within the hour slot.
All free
A. S.
This Cathedral is extremely beautiful. There offer tours and the volunteers are extremely knowledgeable and friendly. The grounds are exceptional and entry is free.
B. G.
Imposing eerily beautiful cathedral. Takes u to medieval times instantly.. With So many years of history behind it, worth a visit. Not be missed if you visit Glasgow.
D. P.
Nice cathedral in Glasgow, but I was surprised to see there was no place for worshipping. Packs of tourists talking loudly and taking photos as if they were not in the House of God. A bit underwhelming. I go to churches to find peace and quiet, not to feel as if I’m in Disneyland. Nothing against tourism - I was there as a tourist myself - but they should impose stricter rules on the behavior of tourists (e.g., regarding noise levels), and enforce them.
R. G. (.
An impressive church. Feel the glamour of the old empire. In a restrained and calm way. Maybe the most beautiful church i ve ever seen. Loved it there.
Mehr als sehenswert. Die Glorie des alten Empires. Auf eine soo angenehme Weise.
B. U.
Large very old Cathedral located in central Glasgow. As a active church you need to be aware of regilious events and requirements. Large and spectacular glass panels depicting various events. You can see the resting places of many famous names and royals. Can be crowded inside. Worth a visit.
J. C.
Highlight of my trip! It’s was stunning and actually took my breath away. The pictures don’t do it justice. We walked all around the ground and enjoyed learning the history surrounding it.
J. J. P. R.
My father and I only saw this cathedral in Glasgow, Scotland 🏴, UK 🇬🇧 while going on a day tour in September 2012. It's a beautiful church/cathedral.
We are the visitors from Dublin, Ireland 🇮🇪
l. m.
Majestic and ancient - how lovely is Glasgow Cathedral! Steeped in the history of Glasgow and the church this beautifully preserved architecture is still a practising place of worship and the oldest cathedral in Scotland. Founded and dedicated to St. Mungo in the 12th century it survived the Reformation in the 16th century and has been at the heart of Glasgow for nearly 900 years. Free to enter and definitely worth a visit. Access for wheelchairs and prams available but no public convinces. Parking nearby.
S. G.
Nice cathedral actually. Not as impressive as, for example, Liverpool, but still a good idea to burn some time on a rainy day. In case it isn't raining, it's well worth to take a short stroll at the cemetery behind the building.
P. S.
A wonderful cathedral to visit if you have the time, especially for free (I suggest donating). The signs provide a reasonable amount of history about the cathedral and architecture that it was worth a stop.
S. M.
Beautiful and in a beautiful location. We went middle of the week and it wasn’t crowded at all. The building itself is amazing, huge, and full of history! There is a huge cemetery located directly behind the cathedral that you should check out if you get a chance.
N. L.
Quite an amazing landmark in Glasgow, and it provides informative exhibits on a bit of the city’s history and development, from a religious perspective. The church is also well prepared to receive visitors without disrupting worship services. Stain glass decorations were also quite breathtaking. Do visit if you have time!
s. w.
Wonderful cathedral with a lot of interesting history
V. S.
The Glasgow Cathedral, also known as St. Mungo's Cathedral, is the oldest building in Glasgow and a truly stunning sight in the east end of the city. It's completely free, there is a tomb of st. Mungo himself! And the necropolis behind the cathedral is an incredible site too. Definitely worth a look!
T. B.
This is just one fantastic building its free entry. the history of Glasgow is here. The historical building blows you away soon you walk into the location. The walls are full victorian memorials to the armed forces away back in 1700s, 1800s 1900. there small gift shop and information on the building. Down stairs it tomb ST Mungo. top marks well worth a visit.
K. B.
There are not words to describe how incredible this Cathedral was. The sheer size and detail of it are almost beyond comprehension. By far one of the highlights of our entire trip!
m.
The Glasgow Cathedral is a fine example of Scottish Gothic architecture of very ancient origins. The origins of the church dates back to the 7th century to the legend of St. Kentigern (also known affectionally as St. Mungo). The church building grew up around his supposed tomb and his relics were one of the most treasured possessions in Christian Scotland. Not only did the relics bring prestige, but the offerings of the visiting pilgrims became a major source of income. All of this eventually led to an expansion of the church until 12th century when the church took it's current form.
The church is a fine example of Scottish Gothic architecture. If you love architecture, then the Glasgow Cathedral is definitely worth visiting, with it's beautiful naves, an annular corridor around the choir, beautiful stained glass and a crypt with majestic pillars.
A. F.
Beautiful and historic. Be sure to go under the main cathedral into St Mongo's tomb. so much attention to detail and an unbelievable amount of history displayed on the walls.
F. C.
I have been told that the city has not much to offer but this cathedral is definitely worth a visit! gorgeous in its gothic style (even if the coloured windows are middle '900, they are wonderful) and a pleasure to walk around...do not miss it!
М. Т.
Very impressive building
Keep in mind it closes at 4 PM (if you want to take a look from the inside)
Don’t miss the adjacent Graveyard
A. D.
Travelled out of my way to visit and was closed on arrival with no signs to indicate so. Museum of Religion St Mungo's around the corner was very facilitating and an interesting visit
S. B.
What a superb, historical building. Took a while to walk round and imbue the history. Lots to see and read. When I was there (Saturday lunchtime) it was very busy with many young tourists taking in the sights. Well worth also visiting the Necropolis Cemetery next door also.
M. T.
Very impressive cathedral
a. c.
Great architecture and a lovely service, we went the night before Queen Elizabeth funeral, the choir was awesome too.😁 …
P. H.
St Mungo's Cathedral, (Church of Scotland) is a very impressive building, fine architecture and stained glass. Free admission, audio guided tours available from quite recently, £2.00 charge.
A great deal to explore in the main body of the Cathedral, and also in the Undercroft, which contains further worship spaces, although access is difficult for the less mobile. Very popular on the tourist trail! Refreshments available in the nearby cathedral house.
B. M.
Best part if the Cathedral is actually Necropolis across the street. The Cathedral has all the gothic touches but it doesn't appear as well kept as one would think.
If you go spend more time at the Necropolis and walk all the way to the top. On a clear day you can see for miles, all the way to the hills and the wind farms.
I. F.
We spent an hour in Glasgow Cathedral just looking at - and reading the inscriptions on - the beautiful stained-glass windows. On approach, the church is very imposing and full of lovely angles. The old stone glows in the sunlight and gives a feeling of solidity, reverence and serenity. It looks as though it has been there forever - as did one or two of the 'Friends' of the Cathedral. These folk were extremely knowledgeable and were very happy to answer our questions. There is no charge to enter and even the crypts are available to the public. There is, of course, the obligatory shop, but its wares are not overly expensive. Absolutely worth a visit when in Glasgow.
A. W.
A tremendous place full of history and culture, photogenically so spectacular, a must visit site in Ye Olde Glasgow. The Cathedral is free to enter and open 7 days a week, it houses the grave of St Mungo, patron saint of Glasgow and also nearby a personal favourite of mine Bishop Thomas Wishart supporter of Wallace and Bruce in the Scottish wars of Independence , without whom the war may have been lost
G. M.
If you like your history or just roaming around old buildings Glasgow cathedral is well worth a visit
Z. B. K.
It’s massive. You can see a lot of stained glass works which are really cool. Pay attention to the unicorn drawings on the glass, the unicorn is a symbol for Scotland as the lion is for England. Behind the cathedral you can also visit the necropolis and see the interesting gravestones.
A. K.
Must visit, just astonishing. How unfortunate that during the reformation they stripped it from all the "marple-like" bright white decorations".
J. O.
Gorgeous. A wonderful historic place. A quick stop for a look or a longer visit for a chance to take it all in and explore the grounds.
K. R.
Reformation History & architecture are incredible! Must visit!
A. P.
Wonderful architecture
The Necropolis was an eye opener never seen a grave yard like it
Very grand and ornate.
J. D.
A magical spot, oasis in the city of Glasgow.
E. C.
Stunning, beautiful, a must for all Outlander fans so much to see. Where baby faith was born & died.(L 'Hopital paris)
R. S.
Nice cathedral to visit in Glasgow. Opening times vary depending on time of year (see photo), but admission is free, so well worth seeing. There is a lower level which had a strange Lego type exhibition setup. That seemed very out of place and can only imagine was to help raise funds from a 'corporate' perspective.
S. H.
Glasgow Cathedral is an amazing piece of history. It isn't Notre Dame or Canterbury cathedral but it never claims to be. If you come here, without expecting a superlative experience of the "biggest or bestest" cathedral you've ever seen, I'd wager you'll leave pleasantly surprised. The staff who walk the cathedral are extemely knowledgable and approachable. To not ask questions while you're visiting is a mistake. Cathedrals of this age hold secrets that our eyes just don't see in 2017. The construction is inspiring. Make sure to walk over to the necropolis to get the best full view.
И. И.
Great spiritual place, amazing architecture and unique stained glasses.
T. G.
All I can say is I wish it was opened! A beautiful building from the outside. Great view from the graveyard across the bridge
P. d. P.
1100 Cathedral, built as Roman Catholic, since the late 1500 Protestant. Mostly original, with especially the windows beautiful. The basement is big and very interesting as well.
B. C.
A must see place while you're in Glasgow. Very nice cathedral with a medieval history. The stained glass widows are great, the cathedral also hosts a 400 year old bible(as of 2017) King James VI printed in 1617. You are allowed to take photos in the public areas. Opening hours vary depending on the season. There is a lower level with various displays made of Legos.
B. M.
Excellent medieval cathedral still used for religious services. The only one remaining on mainland Scotland.
L. M. F.
A pretty nice building, the Glasgow Cathedral is very impressive, with 800 years of history, you can walk inside of it, but you will need to have an appointment (due the Covid restrictions), behind there is a beautiful Necropolis and you can have magnificent views of the city from the top of the hill and visit William Wallace’s memorial.
D. W.
Well worth the time! Built in the 1100's! This is the oldest cathedral in Scotland. The workmanship is simply remarkable..... especially considering that it was constructed almost 900 years ago! If you're in Glasgow, the hop on hop of bus will take you right to it.
D. S.
Lovely place. Lovely architecture. History store is good. Interested people in history will love this place.
P. H. T.
What a lovely Cathedral to visit, staff there were really friendly and helpful.
There is a small shop to buy some ornaments
H. K.
Slightly far away from city centre but walkable distance. The cathedral is amongst the best looking and most impressive British cathedrals out there. Free admission with the option to purchase audio guide. Huge and has a lower level as well. A must go in Glasgow
N. J.
Its a must visit place if you are in Glasgow. Ancient architecture with natural beautiful surrounding ... lot of history attached !
M. L.
Beautiful cathedral, free to visit. Gorgeous stained glass windows. Don’t forget to visit the necropolis that’s beside it, very peaceful and lovely space
A. R. A. M. (.
The Cathedral is a massive architectural master piece. Seeing the sunset from the top of Necropolis is always a pleasing thing.
R. M.
Quite an impressive historical building. Didn’t go inside, it wasn’t open at the time I walked by. Stunning to view nonetheless.
A. J.
We had our graduation party in the Cathedral which was very peaceful and amazing inside out. if you are a traveler in Glasgow, you need to visit it.
M. T.
Gorgeous cathedral. Stunning stained glass windows and rosettes on the ceiling. Definitely worth the time to visit and walk through.
Y. J.
Beautifull landmark in Glasgow. Be sure to check it out from the top of The Necropolis for a good view on the cathedral and the city.
B. s.
An excellent opportunity to see a gorgeous, medevil Catherdral. The oldest building in Scotland dedicated in 1167.
m. v.
Firstly, unlike many famous cathedral, it's free and secondly it has a lot of history attached to it and it is an amazingly beautiful place to visit.
S. C.
Amazing cathedral with a large crypt level as well as the main church floor. The highlight is the stained glass within.
S. N.
Historic site of Glasgow's founding by St. Mungo.
Very impressive structure, with high arched ceiling, some beautiful stain glass windows, & many memorials & tombs, including St. Mungo's tomb in lower floor below choir area.
Well worth the visit.
Free, but don't forget to make a donation!
J. M. A.
Amazing place, specially the lower levels. It's a really worthy visit if you're in Glasgow. It's free and you can purchase audio-guides and souvenirs. It'll take about 1 hour if you want to really pay attention to details.
V. K.
Glasgow Cathedral, also called the High Kirk of Glasgow or St Kentigern's or St Mungo's Cathedral, is the oldest cathedral on mainland Scotland and is the oldest building in Glasgow. Since the Reformation the cathedral continues in public ownership, within the responsibility of Historic Environment Scotland.
D. G.
What an incredible experience to be able to enjoy the Architecture in the history of such a old building. Does it matter what faith you are it is unavailable to get caught in the romance of such history a return would be in order
D. T.
Stunning cathedral and well worth the visit.
S. D.
A beautiful building in an amazing setting. Well worth going in and admiring all the art and windows
R.
Very beautiful cathedral with a great copper roof. It's definitely worth the stop. Check out the necropolis next door.
N. A.
beautiful monument to Scottish history. Amazing stained glass and beautiful arches adorn the cathedral. A true history of Scotland showing the architecture and history of Scotland. so many beautiful photographs. One of the best cathedrals we've seen in our travels in the UK. Everyone from Glasgow should visit this cathedral at least once - if the tourists manage it, so can we!
B. C.
Beautiful cathedral. The cemetery next door is stunning.
K.
Free entry though donation requested.
The place is gorgeous like all old churches with amazing windows. A big organ and lots of mini chapels inside of the church. There is good history and explanations within the church and their patron saints tomb. Definitely a must see in Glasgow
S. M.
So beautiful and full of history. Don't miss it! Also make sure to walk into or by the Necropolis.
A. D.
Really beautiful and interesting, but I wish there was a better self guided tour. The little leaflet wasn’t super helpful, especially because it didn’t have a diagram of the cathedral. Also part of it is under construction. Overall, St. Giles in Edinburgh is much better.
i.
Great stop. Beautiful stained glass, great history information, warm, priest on hand... Everything you could need!
S. W.
Beautiful cathedral!
Not a fan of the organ so someone blasting it out the whole time was not great…
s. m.
A stunning piece of old Glasgow. I have passed this building almost daily for the best part of 12 years and only recently decided to check it out. Truely stunning inside and steeped in history. The stained glass windows are breathtaking and i was lucky enough to have a nice bit of winter sun showing them off. The downstairs chapel is lovely and feels truely old. It is also the burial place of st mungo which adds a nice bit of Glasgow history to the visit. It is still a functioning church so there are prayer times throughout the day. You also have the necropolis a stones throw away.
S. A.
One of the must go spots in Glasgow.
The cathedral is very beautiful and has lots to showcase on history.
R. k.
The view of this cathedral from Necropolis is amazing . That green roof is so distinctive.
J. S.
12th century cathedral. Impressive stained glass windows. Free entrance. Don’t forget to go down into the basement, various chapels and St. Mungo shrine. Some scenes of the TV show “Outlander” were filmed there too.
H. N.
It's not so far from the city center. The visitor usually only takes 15 mins to walk from central station. Don't forget to find the secret bug at a chair in cathedral.
d. m.
I enjoyed the visit great things to see and lots to read . The drain glass windows where brilliant
s.
I'm not a Christian at all, but I enjoyed the gothic architecture in the vast halls of this church. I recommend to also take a short walk to the necropolis nearby.
A. V.
Historic place. So calm. Must see in Glasgow
D. M.
Imposing building with impressive architecture and the necropolis at the back make this a must see point on your Glasgow bucket list. Strongly recommend this !!!!!!
j. n.
Beautiful building, astounding to think of being in a place of worship several times as old as my country!
F. M.
Much larger than expected. Has an area underneath the main section that can be explored. Stained glass not as wow as the ones in France, but overall a grand cathedral.
P. S.
A cathedral worth seeing with several levels, which is not so common in every church.
K. R.
Nice cathedral. Beatiful windows. Make sure you go down to the old part, dating from around 1200
S. G.
Beautiful cathedral.. the stained glass windows are gorgeous.. got a chance to listen to the choir as well..
P. J.
Marvelous architecture
S. B.
After seeing Necropolis, we went to see Glasgow Cathedral. Must visit for it's old Scottish Gothic built. Photos do no justice to the place. I've never seen such big and beautifully intricate stain glass windows!
It's free of charge. 🙂

Talk about an amazing Cathedral. Two floors!! So much stuff to look at. Loved it.
S. W.
Despite having many visitors, the Cathedral doesn't feel really touristy and offers a grand atmosphere.
M. M.
Went to midnight mass with my family great start to christmas 🙏🙏🙏 …
G. D. C. D. C.
Good Cathedral. There are less ornaments than catholic churches, because people used to go there to listen the priest, and to talk between them. Nice to see it.
N. F.
Superb architecture well preserved and definitely worth a visit
D. A. U.
Beautiful Cathedral..!
Large n green Ground with a huge cemetery behind it. Anyone can enter & donations are appreciated here..
M. D.
Really pretty building and some interesting plagues on the inside.
Also pay a visit to the graveyard on the right hand side.
Z. A.
Dosnt compare to St Albans, Peterborough or Norwich. A wee disappointing. Great views of the city though.
M. O.
Very grand. Lots of interesting stained glass. Very relaxing environment. And a special surprise for Outlander fans. 🤔 …
s. g. k.

Beautiful place and architecture, with nice cathedral guides and lots of LEGO models of worldwide monuments and historical events. Worth visiting!

Calming to look around and visit. Cathedral not open despite opening times saying so.

R. L.
Really beautiful cathedral! The painted windows are amazing 🤩 I also recommend the religions museum nearby, St Mungo museum, it's really interesting …
A.
Small place, nothing much to see inside but surround aria is not bad. Good place to have a nice city view form old cemetery
E. H.
Very beautiful cathedral in town.
It is only 10-15min walk from the city center.
M. S.
Beautiful architecture and amazing culture. A plesant place to visit
L. B.
Very helpful staff, looking for graves of family members in the vaults
L. G.
Gorgeous! Well worth a visit out, only a few minutes walk from the city centre, and then a follow it up with a walk around the Necropolis. Will visit again!
S. P.
Beautiful architecture. Great parks and scenery. A must-see for anyone travelling to Glasgow.
W. K.
A little bit cluttered when you are used to European churches. Make sure you take off your hat..
B. B.
Wonderful 12th century architecture. The stained glass windows are impressive, although not many, if any biblical ones. A lot of plaques and monuments dedicated to those who lost their lives in warfare. Although a place of worship not much about the Bible, as far as I could see. Have to book in advance before entering, and there is a one way system in place, all for social distancing purposes. It is free though.
s. d.
It's a nice location, the graveyard close by looks epic. It's literally a hill of graves.
B. B.
The first stone built Glasgow Cathedral was dedicated in the presence of King David I in 1136. The present building was consecrated in 1197. Initially a Catholic church, it became Presbeterian during the Reformation. Abolutely gorgeous place with lots of stained glass windows and many memorials to Scottish regiments from the Glasgow area. The shrine of St Mungo is in the basement and Glasgow's Necropolis (a spectacular cemetary) is on the hill behind the cathedral.
D. M.
Magnificent! One of the most beautiful I have visited.
p.
A must visit place in Glasgow!!
Wonderful glass painting decorate the walls and the building itself is a architectural wonder. A place associated with history and tradition.
P. J. O.
One of the must stops in Scotland.
The ONLY Scottish cathedral (dates from 1198) that escaped the ravages of the Reformation, and the destruction of the Talaban-like excesses of the Cromwellian forces, it stands as a beacon of building expertise and belief that continues to astound and attract in equal measure.
A. C. C.
A beautiful cathedral and our favourite place in Glasgow. If you are in the city I highly recommend a visit to the cathedral and the graveyard next to it.
E. F.
Gothic
M. W.

I. C.
Ancient, beautiful and calm place for a silent reflection or pray.
V. O.
Old and historic ! The necropolis behind it has a great advantage point and green area. The area is what you hope to find in a city with so much history.
J. F.
Beautiful historic cathedral.
C. P.
A Scottish-style cathedral with a well-preserved medieval original. A beautiful architecture.
P. C.
Staff very friendly and such a lovely place
N. M.
WOW! Well worth visiting the cathedral AND necropolis. Breathtaking building. Stunning cathedral architecture. Free to get in. Staff helpful. Parking close by.
G. A.
Beautiful church and grounds. Free entry. Lots of history. This is a must see if you visit the city.
Θ. Χ.
Amazing place!!!So beautiful and interesting
A. S.
Calm place scenic surrounding typical cathedral
S. H.
Tourist spot, quite a few period buildings in the area. Worth a visit!
S. C.
As cathedrals go this is very old however the stained glass windows are under a hundred years old. The layout lacks the wonder of others like Canterbury and Winchester, so it does not quite have that sense of godliness as others. We spent about half an hour inside.
E. Y.
I'm always amazed by the beauty of this building. And this is a special magic, when you can enjoy a cathedral choir over there...
j. T.
A great bit I'd britisk/ scotish history.
Don't forget to book.
A pity things are still a bit restricted.
Great cemetery behind the cathedral. A tribute to victoriana, Great views too. A gentle stroll back to the city centre.
Great bank restaurant en route
W. M.
Extraordinary Cathedral with many amazing stained glass windows. A Glasgow treasure!
M. J.
Beautiful cathedral. Gothic looking architecture, very impressive.
C. L. F.
A must visit place if you're in Glasgow. The architecture is splendid and the history behind it is equally fascinating.
N. L.
Very inspiring, religious place, worth a visit
P. A.
Great place to visit. Remember to book in advance although you can get in on the day if you are early and it's not too busy. You do need a smartphone and it takes about 5 minutes to input your details and receive a email letting you in.
S.
Beautiful Cathedral with gothic architecture. The stained glass is a work of art.
N. R.
A beautiful building full of history and friendly staff.
M. B.
Beautiful gothic style cathedral.
L.
Breathtaking!
Tourist error #1= Inappropriate dress. And I know better!
Taxi dropped us off Sunday morning and we were just in time for services. Realizing I was extremely below standards I paused and asked the usher if I could enter. "God looks at your heart, not your clothes. You are very welcome!" And we were!Mourning suits, hats, dresses and me...singing and worshipping amongst the most beautiful sacred architecture. History is built around and through this landmark you will not want to miss. The priest is a great wealth of knowledge and will show you around with a smile and a story or two. An usher will walk over and point out a highlight. The clock is a piece of beauty and then you hear the music of the pipe organ. Pamphlets and photos are encouraged and offered. The bus route is right nearby but plan to spend time in the cemetery looking through generations of love and how they honored those who went before. Thank you to the loving, warm congregation that lived what they preached.
K. W.
Glasgow city best land Mark and architecture design
S. W.
Good, but some of the history displays were wrong.
S. S.
Beautiful exterior, and large complex of stunning interior architecture, statues and information. Cathedral can accommodate a large number of visitors. Accessible to all as there are wheelchair and access lifts throughout the building for areas with stairs.
Free admission but donations taken. Photography appears to be permitted.
C. “. Y.
Good place to visit and worship
V. Þ.
Wery historical place, great art in windows
P. N.
Fabulous histories in this fantastic building. A great pleasure to visit here. A must if you are in Glasgow
S. S.
A beautiful Cathedral, however, we arrived only 10 minutes before closing, so our visit was limited.
M. D. C.
I went for tourism one day to Glasgow and the Cathedral was the first place I wanted to visit but I realized I had to book to go inside. I saw less than 5 people going inside when they said the limit was 10 and my booking was for 2pm , they didn't let me get in .
M. A.
Absolutely beautiful Cathedral! Free to enter, but donations are appreciated. A lot of stained glass windows. Grounds are lovely and there is a huge cemetery behind it. There is a small gift shop and the employees are friendly and knowledgeable about the history.
S. A.
It was quite long time that I have been here. I was alone and thrilled. It was amazing view and experience. You can see all over gloscow city from top. beautiful cathedral. Takes u to medieval times instantly.. it has so many historical stories behind it, worth to visit cathedral. Not be missed if you visit to United Kingdom and you should visit to Glasgow.
A. G.
Stunning cathedral, helpful staff and easy to get to with close by parking
S. M.
Yet another church but a bit more special bc it is dark and has amazing stained glass, which creates a good balance between dark and light
C. R.
Ah yes! Exquisites architecture and friendly local cathedral enthusiasts
A. P.
Beautiful cathedral. No toilet on site. The toilet is two streets away tolled at 20p and dirty
J. L.
The building and service were excellent. It was horrendous to book to go to the service we had to get Historic Scotland involved. Not a straight forward booking system, only could book via emails that were not answered.
R. R.
It's a great experience to visit the Glasgow cathedral. On my first visit, I was not aware about the history of Cathedral. Later came to know it was more than 800 years old, which means than 10 generation would have worshipped. Previously due to Covid situation, I couldn't make another trip. Now Cathedral has reopened with online booking. Staff was very friendly and since there was less crowd, it was good experience to explore the place. A Bible which is more than 400 years old is also kept on display. If you like historical place,it's a place you shouldn't miss.
J. T.
Awesome palace. Especially night from necropolis.
T. C.
Beautiful place, free to enter but you do need to book ahead of time on the website. Well worth a visit to see the amazing building and beautiful windows.
I. C.
I love it. It big and gothic and it has history. There's a great veiw with some of the monuments from the necropolis if you sit out front. It was very busy when I went and there weren't any candles left to light but I still really like this cathedral.
A. O.
Unfortunately it wasn't open for visitors when I was there.
J. B.
Medieval cathedral with a mighty organ. Immersive historical experience!
J. H.
A must see when in Glasgow. So much history.
J. N.
Glasgow Cathedral dates from about 1200 A.D., located close to the Provand’s Lordship. Well worth a visit.
N. D.
The cathedral itself is nice but the Necropolis next to it is the highlight of the place. You get a beautiful view of the cathedral as well.
The cathedral is closed on Sunday mornings so try to plan your visit around that,if possible.
M. D.
Beautiful architecture!! Don't forget to enjoy the view from necropolis
D. L.
The cathedral is beautiful though not as large as the more famous ones in Europe. They have one of the earliest copies of the King James Bible on display. The grounds are pretty and there is an intriguing necroplis behind the cathedral. If you have time, stop by for a visit.
c. d.
Splendid cathedral and many other interesting buildings around. Bridge leads from cathedral to necropolis.
T. R.
Beautiful building. It's amazing how people built these things with far less technology than we have today. The detail is stunning. It was a huge happy surprise to see that Outlander filmed here. Will definitely go back.
M.
Great to visit, especially the Necropolis.
S. L.
Lovely cathedral. Beautiful inside and out.
Takes about 30 mins to do the tour around.
Great social distancing measures in place - just prebook a ticket! Friendly staff
v. d.
Almost on my doorstep means I can visit often.
M. R. A. d. S.
The cathedral is historically important, but it didn't impress me much.
A. W.
Initially, the visit to this museum was intended for my wife. I found out that I ended up being amazed by this unusual collection, from everyday items to unique artefacts, made of precious, weird or rare materials. Highly recommended as it is located in a well preserved old Dutch house, professionally organized and thoroughly enjoyable. Also contains a pleasant cafeteria where one can have a coffee and cookies.
R. K.
Beautiful place. Quiet and peaceful.
H. A. g.
Beautiful
L. M.
Do not pass go in for a tour . . Right down to the decor. Absolutely beautiful 🤗. One of Glasgow's most visited tourist sights …
J. M.
Enjoyed visit. Easy to book on line. Lovely building with plenty of information and interesting plaques. Staff helpful and friendly.
T. C.
I should say I didn't go in. Didn't fancy bursting into flames and unfortunately was pressed for time or else I would have gone. The outside is pretty standard, the grounds around it are quaint. I liked the look of the necropolis, a fair few interesting specimens and I imagine a very rich history. I took alot of photos and based on that I made my judgement. Might be better on the inside but I'll only comment on what I did see
R. s.
Beautiful interior that's takes back in time. If you appreciate architecture, then it's a must see when you visit Glasgow.
B. B.
Beautiful structure with intricate detail in architecture and in glass. Wonderful lower level with St. Mungo's tomb, accompanying tapestry work, mini-musuem of historical pieces, and associated relics. Definitely worth visiting this building and taking at least 30 minutes to walk around the perimeter!
V. Z.
Beautiful. Please do not forget to visit lower portion.
R. K.
Beautiful building to visit
K.
Very impressive Glasgow landmark. Beautiful 19th century stained glass windows. Plenty of nooks and crannies and quite atmospheric. Free entry. Signage could be improved, probably best for guided tour although volunteers may also be available. Small shop with some Scotch kitsch. Nearby, necropolis well worth stroll, Museum of Religion lacklustre.
S. F.
A lot of history to learn from this old edifice. A must see for all visiting Glasgow
R. G.
I visited the place late at night and it was closed, but looked nice from the outside, it seems that I always find myself visiting cathedrals at night,
L. L. V. (.
The cathedral is beautiful and well kept. In the underground floor you may find some free temporary exposition (when I was there there was a lego exposition which was quite nice). The architecture is stunning and it is worth crossing the university zone to reach it. Last time there was some scaffolding both on the inside and on the outside. I hope to see it again without it.
D. M.
History without any need for embellishments, it is a line through Scottish history of the last millennium. The staff are very friendly and helpful and our guide was very informative. Worth booking a guided tour, there were only three of us but guide taylored it to our requests. Very Glasgow friendly, it is the people who make it.
G. W.
Great cathedral with some stunning windows. The staff are very welcoming and approachable with amazing knowledge of the buildings. Although there were lots of visitors the atmosphere was still peaceful and worshipful.
K. s.
Went here for my college graduation. Got some time before the ceremony to talk to the staff sho had a wide knowledge and expertise on the place and were very friendly and helpful.
The cathedral is amazing inside with the big stain glass windows.
Would recommend to anyone who has an interest in architecture and old buildings.
M. M.
Like the architecture!!!
M. M.
Free! I recommend walking from the crntral train station along the river, taking in some of the mural trail before heading to the cathedral. Entry is free but donations are encouraged - presently cash box but tap coming soon. Large chambers underneath the church are very detailed and awe-inspiring
G. O. B.
Beautiful cathedral worth seeing on your way in Glasgow.
D. B.
Very beautifull cathedral. You can wonder for over an hour Just inside and another hour or more on the graveyard on the hill next to the cathedral.
The cathedral also has a door in the back. This is the original door from when the cathedral was build. So this door is almost 1000 years old. Made from Wood. Stunning to see.
D. C.
I love Glasgow Cathedral with it's fantastic history dating back to the 11 hundreds. With free entry, it is a must see experience if you are visiting Glasgow. Best photographs can be taken from the top of the Necropolis (be aware it is quite a steep hill). Cheapest parking in the area is the road between the Cathedral and the Necropolis.
R. D. D.
Very nice cathedral, in darkish stones with an old greenish roof. The surroundings with the magnificent royal nursery next to the cathedral and the necropole right behind (which offers a marvelous view of the city) make this place a need-to-visit spot during your journey through Glasgow.
G. D.
Prolly a must see if you're in Glasgow. Amazing architecture.
N. M.
There is absolutely no wheelchair accessibility in this Cathedral. If you have any mobility issues it is not advised that you go in here. However it is a beautiful building! Definitely worth a look on the outside!
M. R.
Great, staff really kind, helpful and informative.
T. M.
In Salisbury there is better one ;)
I. C.
Impressive Gothic architecture. The entrance is donation based and there are some audio guides to rent. To get a better view of the Cathedral walk 10 minutes to the Glasgow necropolis.
L. D.
This place is incredible and I would highly recommend a visit. Over 900 years old!! It’s amazing to be able to walk through and imagine the people that have gone before us. A visit to a cathedral wasn’t high on my list, but I’m so glad we went!!
M. M.
As it is said being the only survive medieval cathedral of Scotland this building is amazing. With its overwhelming history, architectural details and almost touchable spirituality nobody escapes the impression of eternity. I think, this place is the one that must be visited by anyone comes to Glasgow .
K. B.
An amazing building from the outside but was very disappointed that you could not go into this amazing cathedral
Y. U.
Beautiful cathedral. The nearby necropolis is well worth a visit.
C. C.
Great place to experience the old Glasgow. Free admission, very clean and lots of interesting things to read and look at.Very friendly informative staff. Toilets and café located in museum. Well worth a visit, open 7 days and pretty unrestricted access. Still a functioning church and Sunday mornings until 12.30ish church service held. Visitors very welcome to attend or wait in the very spacious main foyer.
T. w. B.
The graveyard behind the cathedral was very big, nice walk there.
M. T.
Amazing cathedral, a visit is a must!! Unspoiled medieval gem hidden in the city. Free entry! Plenty of room either to explore or to sit down and contemplate the cathedral in silence.
N. M.
Beautiful interior. The crypt was a revelation.
A. F.
Functional church so unless you plan to sit through mass, don't expect to gain access as a tourist.
N. C.
A lovely place, I would go back again
C.
Lovely walk round the cathedral and graveyard
L. B.
The site guide had lots of stories, and knew the cathedral well. He was happy to answer our questions, told good jokes, and ensured we enjoyed our visit. Lovely site, with quite the history.
A. B.
Away from all of the "modern" buildings that dominate Glasgow (especially the social housing) this place is beautiful and a real piece of the city's history. Well worth the visit, and don't forget to have a wander around the cemetery.
V. K.
This is like running into a wall. This church speaks for itself. I could not attend any service for it was a weekday. But the walls sing, the air inside weaves it's own cloth over your mind and the rustiness creates a place for time to stand aside. Mine was an unplanned visit and though I have been to bigger churches, this one creates its own tides on the inside
R. D.
nice historical religious place, quiet small for a cathedral but withnice details and an excellent vault/cellar. Attended a nass as Sunday 1600 and enjoyed some Gregorian choir practicing. Hop on Hop off stops right near the cathedral at stop 2. Wheel chair lift available at the entrance.
S. D. R.
With Loads of History behind the place, it was an amazing experience to be there.
B. F.
Beautiful cathedral. Highly recommend going on a Sunday if you can when the choir is singing or practicing. Definitely worth the trip no matter what day you visit.
e. d.
This is a beautiful place to visit. Take time to either sit in tranquil settings or admire the craftsmanship which so obviously went into making this exquisite building. Amazing and awe-inspiring.
C. B.
This ancient cathedral was largely rebuilt in Victorian Gothic style - and acquired industrial grime that is now washing away to show wonderful carvings, good glass windows too. Fascinating tombs in and out, and the crypt of the original Blackadder.
G. R.
It's a church inside of a church inside of a church hahaha feels like a loop, is there any hidden passages there?
T. M.
Didnt get inside as there are covid restrictions on visits but had a little wander round the outside and took the best pics of the cathedral from the Necropolis
F. L.
One of the best spot of Glasgow!
R. B.
The gothic architecture is really breathtaking and the history here is engaging for pretty much any one who'd stop through. I'd take the time to learn about St. Mungo and his mother and the local street art about them. The stained glass was the highlight of the cathedral for me as it has been crafted by artisans throughout the cathedrals history.
i. m.
Went for my granddaughter's school choir performance as part of Childline Concert. Acoustics very good. Staff lovely and helpful. Cathedral is a magnificent building and must see in Glasgow. Love it. ❤️
E. L.
Beautiful gothic architecture. The stain glass windows are stunning. There early to beat the crowds as a number of tour groups include on their day of site seeing.

On a cold day in December it's a rare thing find a church with central heating. Perhaps that's why I warmed for this building or perhaps it's the many hundreds of years of History , the extensive choir ,the huge vaulted ceiling and St Mungo's tomb and sacristy. Anyway I loved it. And I bought a scarf from the shop.

Totally worth a visit

Lovely old Cathedral well worth a visit. Visitors should also have a look at the Necropolis and the Lord Provands House while there as they are all free and within walking distance of the Cathedral.

Absolutely incredible! I cannot believe it is free entry. The guides are full of knowledge and there is so much to read and learn about. The place is absolutely stunning and you could easily spend hours there if you take your time.

Beautiful cathedral. Amazing architecture.

Yes, another cathedral. This one has multiple sections and a lower level. Lots of stainex glass and very tall ceilings. There's also an acropolis behind the cathedral which provides stunning views of the city.

Very 'real' Gothic atmosphere, nothing like the over decorated baroque churches. It feels like Robin Hood (or his Scottish counterpart) can burst in any time. Don't forget to visit the Necropolis too.

the area is nice, but the cathedral is not so big neither astonishing

The Glasgow Cathedral is worth the visit. It is a beautiful cathedral; many interesting details and there is also a crypt. On the time of my visit there was a Lego exhibition and it was a nice surprise. There are interesting museums and a necropolis next to the cathedral.

Beautiful landmark.

Very nice cathedral. Worth a visit

Such a beautiful building. Even though it's quite dirty on the outside the color of the walls and the roof make a great contrast!
Inside is fascinating as well!

Majestic historic Cathedral located very close to city centre.
It's around 10-12 minutes walk from John Buchanan bus station and similar distance from Glasgow queen Street station.
A must visit who is in Glasgow.
Cathedral has collection of old aerial photos

Beautiful building. Multi-leveled so call ahead before using wheelchairs or prams for more info. A lot of history and information about the cathedral and grwater Glasgow (including Outlander and WWI&II).
J. B.
A large building made of granite and looking like a mountain, except the 'snow' on top is green. Less hazardous too.
A place for quiet reflection. No local loo or cafe; probably why it's survived the reformation and wars.
W. E.
This cathedral has pretty stained glass and arches.
M. L.
This is a must see. If you can only stop by to see the outside then do, but if you can get it inside make sure you do. You can also visit The Necropolis right behind it. I have been a few times and love it.
M. G.
Worth a quick visit when I Glasgow. Parking is available around the building but you will need to pay for it. Nice old structure. Attached to a center of religions which was created by Muslim, Christian, Jewish, Hindu, and Sikh scholars which was interesting to visit. Visit the nearby Nicropolis cemetary while you're here

A special place for worship with its beautiful architecture both inside and out. Services are engaging.

Impressive Gothic cathedral well worth a visit. Great photo opportunities. Some of the best examples of stained glass windows in the country. Well worth visiting the nearby Necropolis if you have time also.
M. V.
Absolutely beautiful cathedral, a sight from inside and out. We caught a choir practice as well, which added a spiritual ambience even further. If you visit, be sure to walk to the nearby necropolis.
M. A.
Beautiful Cathedral steeped in history dating back to 1290. Worth paying £3 for audio headphone commentary. The vaults/lower Church are impressive scene of a film or two & scenes from Outlander.
N. C.
Worth a visit. You can wonder around the inside. The cathedral guides are very friendly and knowledgeble. You can also walk through the Necropolis and get some great views of the city from the top.

I love Glasgow's cathedral and necropolis. Probably one of the few old buildings still standing in town, it's full of charms. A bit dark, it need a bit of cleaning on the outside but oh my... it's so light indoors! All the stained glasswork and the crypts were mesmerising. Plus, if you feel like a wander, explore the necropolis, you shouldn't miss it
C. C.
Absolutely beautiful cathedral. Went on a weekday and it wasn't crowded at all. You can walk throughout the property and up the hill to The Necropolis. The views are absolutely beautiful.

The most beautiful building in Glasgow!

I was very moved by to-days service to commemorate the Centenary of the start of The Great War. I was especially touched by the reading given towards the end of the service by the Schoolgirl, a very eloquent speaker, who deserves great praise not only for her eloquence, but also for the poignancy of her reading. A beautiful service held in a wonderful setting. Very well done from a native of Northern Ireland!

One of the many iconic buildings in Glasgow. Rich in history and the final resting place for many prominent people of Glasgow. It’s worth a visit as there are nearby attractions as well.
T. H.
Interesting place. Even though half of it is being renovated, you can still get a clear impression of the inside. Outside, in the cemetery, there are vault graves. A necropolis is nearby.

I'm not religious, but I recognise nice architecture when I see it. A lovely building in the east end of the city, it's pleasant to visit and my school use it for a memorial service once a year.

Great view of the cathedral from the necropolis

Getting an audio guide might explain more about this place..

Absolutely a must see...with the Necropolis! And bring an umbrella (it will rain).

Glasgow Cathedral along with a few surrounding buildings are almost all that is left of the Medieval town. It is justifiably famous for its beautiful Quire Screen, a Pre-Reformation survivor. Also of particular note is St. Mungo's shrine which can be found in the undercroft, with its wonderful fan vaulted ceiling. There are steps down to the Blacader Isle, which has been beautifully restored and a fine collection of post-war stained glass windows.
K. L.
A great place to visit.

Helpful staff

Amazing architecture and history. The fine gentlemen who was working as the priest/minister/member of faith was an incredibly kind and gentle man.
Stop by and see the jaw dropping interior.
R. C.
Truly an amazing place. Unbelievable.
A. S.
Stunning cathedral dating to the middle ages. Windows are beautiful, but date from late 19th century to present.
Tour guides are great. They delight in sharing their treasure with you.
N. D. C.
Entrance is free, but tickets need to be pre-booked online. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The place itself is very nice and offers informative signages throughout the church.
A. H.
Combine with a visit to the adjacent Necropolis. Beautiful building with unusual lower level.
P. S.
Really difficult to access in a mobility scooter but staff really helpful with a loan of a manual wheelchair and lifts.

Very beautiful Cathedral

What a beautiful place in a beautiful area. We had a tour guide giving us history, but the whole place was wonderful, upstairs and downstairs. Very nice stop.
M. F.
Beautiful cathedral in the heart of Glasgow. Well worth a visit, plus the entry is free! Glasgow Necropolis is next to it, if you climb the hill you get a great view of Glasgow and the cathedral.
F.
Impressive historical building. Especially inside! We went also to the Necropolis Cemetery next. In conjunction with dull weather the scene looks like a thriller movie.
K. W.
I'm not a big fan of cathedrals but the end of the day this place is worth to visit. Building outside looks impressive, inside you can look around, there is a wee souvenir shop.
M. M.
A place worth seeing, interesting architecture and many puzzling images on the walls of reliefs depicting skulls and demons. It is puzzling how the churches were decorated in the past, as if nowadays this dark side of the spiritual world is not presented at all.
A. M.
Very nice building. They have got a guided visit that is carried out by volunteers. Pretty much worth visiting. Highly recommended
I. S.
You have the best view from the necropolis! Worth a visit.
A. A.
Splendid. The place breathes history. No washrooms here, but available at the museums of religious art right across the road road, which is also a good place to see with a nice café.

Beautiful old part of Glasgow. Would recommend a guided tour. At the back of the Cathedral is Glasgow Necropolis (city of the dead). Stunning views over Glasgow at the top
R. R.
Looked nice from the outside but could not go in as you had to book due to covid. Apparently it was fully booked but couldn’t see anyone inside
C. G.
The cathedral and its surroundings are sensational. The staff are enthusiastic and knowledgeable. You often see staff working with visitors to learn more about the cathedra. Beautiful part of the city leading to the Necropolis and a great place to learn more about St Mungo.
