Reviews of Glasgow City Chambers

We came here for a tour but we were told by the many stately doormen outside, that we were able to visit inside... ONLY to sign our condolences for the Queen, and then leave promptly. Promptly?!
Well then!
We said yes please and bowed ackwardly. (Come on! They were in suits, what would you have done?!) What a gorgeous and opulent building inside. The stairwell up to the "Book of Condolences" was quite the regal climb, but much more satisfying waltzing back down...nice and slow, regal like. Nothing like strutting down marble and red carpet. Too bad no one saw us though! We looked good.
B. B.
Tour was excellent, very informative. The building is amazing, so much marble. Well worth a visit.
M. H.
A really nice piece of architecture right outside the station. The building is a dominant feature that you notice as soon as you step out of the station.
R. W.
Thank you for a wonderful visit! I flew over for a one week vacation and got so much more than I expected. I stayed at an amazing hotel "citizenM Hotel", visited the Bagpipe World Championships, enjoyed great food, museums, and got a tattoo! I really enjoyed my walks through the streets and the entertainment along the way.

One of the jewels in the crown in the city of Glasgow, The City Chambers is a stunning multi level floored building with a grand interior marble staircase.
The main banqueting hall is an incredible setting for a party or event and plenty of space for drinks and small receptions.
The service is extremely good for events.

This was an amazing free tour in Glasgow. Done at 10:30 and 2:30 daily. We had a lady called Donna as our guide and she was so so good. She was entertaining and so so informative about all sorts of things and interesting facts of Glasgow and Scotland. This tour is 1 hour long. The building is magnificent!
T. B.
Just one stunning building when you walk inside you will be suprised at the decor. The staircase is marble and the biggest in Europe. That alone is worth visiting the Building. there is tours you need to check with local council on opening hours. well worth a visit when your on vacation in Glasgow and its free.

Still can’t believe this tour was free! Mario was a complete natural In guiding us around and a special thanks to the woman on reception for making sure we got on the tour after relaxing in a side room and not realising a queue was forming.
What a special place. The building was mind blowing both inside and out and a true masterpiece in design. So glad I finally had the chance to see it for myself. Thanks again I love it!
David and my Mum.

Great building loads of statues covering the outside building, and inside bottom floor only was told to go in a look at the marble walls and stairs and look at the tiled floors. Worth a quick look or there is a tour. Di not have time.
C. G.
Get on the tour for this building as the staff and the building are sensational. It's a interior made up of marble and mosaic with a staircase higher than the Vatican City. Relatively new building for Glasgow as it was built in 1888 but has all of the opulence given it is at the height of the Victorian era. Tour is free and takes between 45 and 60 minutes

Beautiful building & Margaret gave an excellent tour. Well worth visiting
S. F.
One of the most beautiful buildings in the city. Visitors should try and go on one of the tours, 10.30 & 14.30, daily. There are on a first come first served basis. At other times visitors can still look around the ground floor.
R. G. (.
Impressive stairways. And I mean: impressive. Much like watching good art. Never seen anything like that. Great architecture.
D.
Crazy beautiful building, like a civic Versailles. Staff very helpful and patient. Free to walk in tour twice a day.
j. h.
(For Tourists) gorgeous interior design to peek at. When planning your day around, you can leave a short 30 min time for a public tour that they host twice per day (10:30am & 2:30pm, Monday~Friday). Come by and ask the receptionist about the availability of the tour! Easy to plan and learn a little something about this gorgeous space!
V. V.
Very beautiful interior , must visit when you are in Glasgow. There are guided tour at 10:30 and 14:30.
J. J.
Great guided tour for free! Go early to get on the tour list, explore other places and then come back at the tour time. If you wait until closer to the tour time to register, it’s likely it will be full. Beautiful building!
T.
Grand square in the city centre surrounded by old architecture.
w. m.
It's a beautiful place and the best way to describe it is to tell you to go and visit it yourself and see the work these stonemasons put in to it ..fantastic place and the staff are every bit as good as the building ..
A. A. (. s.
Well, I would suggest you wait for the guided tours. I was not that patient and just got to walk around the ground floor...which was not that spectacular. Staff was pretty bored as well (I guess). Main idea: GO FOR THE TOUR ☺
m. d.
Opulent huge banquet rooms lots of marble. Very grandiose.
J. S.
Emblem of a bygone age. Made tragic by the inefficiency, incompetence and corruption of the present administration.
S.
A free tour that's highly recommended where you see the beautiful ornate stairs and mosaic flooring along with the history of the building in a 45 mins tour.
L. T.
Well worth a visit, Beautiful building, very impressive , Staff friendly and helpful

The impressive City Chambers building in George Square. The council offices for payments are at the rear of the building in John Street.
M. T.
Beautiful palace
I. C.
Beautiful historic treasure harking back to Glasgow's former status as the second city of the empire. Worth going inside and taking the tour- gold gilded corridors, luxurious marble, corinthian columns. The place is amazing.
m. m.
Great atmosphere great service everyone so friendly and pleasant
M. G.
Got married there recently in the Satinwood Suite and it was definitely right choice of venue for our civil ceremony. All our guests were in awe with the beauty of the building and our pictures are just amazing. The staff were really nice and courteous. Very, very pleased.
K. L.
Amazing building. They do 2 free tours of the building at 10.30 and 2.30 Monday to Friday, and you do not book, simply turn up 30 minutes beforehand. Alas, when we turned up for the 2.30 tour, we were told that it had been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances but We were allowed instead to wander freely on the ground floor as a taste of what we missed so that was okay. The building opened in 1889 with gorgeous Italian marble staircases, and, appears to be exceedingly well maintained. Please leave a like.
Z. D.
My wife and I came from America to be married in Scotland, a place we absolutely love. The ceremony at the city chambers was amazing. They worked with us and made it's experience exceptional. We could not have asked for anything more.
F. K.
Fabulous building with full of marbles and highly artistic in its work. It's a must visit location when u are in Glasgow along with the George square. There is a park to the front of the building and there are all the facilities u r looking for. Awesome atmosphere to be there!!!
R. V. B.
Loved the tour from Donna! You could tell she has given it quite a couple of times, but ever so in a good way. She has anecdotes, quirky facts and points out things you don't see at first glance. Blow away by the beauty hidden behind the doors.
ps: the tour is free, so + for every budget traveler.
THANKS FOR HAVING US!
G. R.
Not much to see as a tourist
B. B.
Very good staff!
They are on time, they are helpful.
Well done team!
If you are earlier you can always go inside and they will suggest you take a seat and wait which is very convenient and to be honest very nice of them.
Hope to be back soon to do more business with them.
Thanks guys!

FREE tours are available at 10.30 and 2.30 weekdays. Ask at reception desk half an hour before a tour starts as tickets are on a first come first served basis.
Very interesting tour with knowledgeable guides. 3 storey Marble staircase very impressive ...the Vatican only has a 2 storey marble staircase!
P. L.
This building is a great piece of Georgian architecture, both inside and out. Whilst the outside looks grand, stepping inside takes it up several notches, with the marbled staircases and huge ceilings. If you get the chance to visit do take it, it is worth it.
D. K.
Nice big building and easy access
P. B.
The architecture of the building is impressive. Worth it place as tourist.
F. C.
Fantastic building inside and out
I was there just for training for the European championships that start in a couple of weeks
Hard to describe that's is why I have posted a few pictures of entrance, staircase and of course the banquet hall were we had our training session
H. T.
The most beautiful building I have ever seen. The guide was friendly, patient and informative. Arrive at least 15 minutes before to secure a spot. Pictures are allowed.
A. W.
The tours are really informative and interesting. I would highly recommend them. I have also held a drinks reception there for a conference I organised. The process of arranging this was smooth and pleasent and the speech the lord provosts representative made at the reception was well written.

Attending for Armed Forces Day. Delighted to be recognising our forces and veterans.

This beautiful building is worth visiting. There are guided tours daily which give you a beautiful look at the interior, the marble stairs and the history of Glasgow.

Although we had a pleasant day at a UK citizenship ceremony, we were the only one's who sang the national anthem, as the foreigners that were welcomed to this country did not no the words and would have loved to have joined in with us. Maybe the words of the national anthem could be added to the allegiance card, then they could sing it if they wanted.
P. G.
Stunning venue well worth taking the time to tour around. Turn up early (up to 30 mins before it starts) to ensure your place. Tours take 40-50 mins, and are usually Mon-Fri at 10:30 and 14:30.

Beautiful city in the heart of Glasgow city chambers

I was buying my annual parking permit yesterday and usually this is always difficult for some reason, I managed to do it all online and very quick and friendly thanks to Hadyn Neary, the lady dealt with my emails swiftly and very professional, I was extremely pleased, was all done in minutes. Thank you very much

Beautiful building inside and out. Unfortunately, the tour was already full. But we were allowed to see everything on the lower floor. It was absolutely fantastic, magnificent, very impressive. Must see!!

(Translated) The ground, walls, escalators, and gates are all magnificent and exquisitely carved, with criss-crossing staircases and a wide field of vision. Standing under the dome will only admire that the whole building is already a work of art, and the pictures can only be glimpsed. , can only admire the wisdom and creativity of human beings

Must see in Glasgow.

Must see in Glasgow.
Free guided tours are offered here and they are definitely worth it. It's clear that Glasgow has had plenty of money in the past and it showed it in the House of Chambers. Nothing was saved. Interesting building with even more interesting interior design. Viewing is recommended.

(Translated) The most beautiful building in Glasgow in my opinion. The interior can be visited on free guided tours. The halls of the palace are beautiful and I believe that even if the entrance was paid, it would be money well invested. The interiors are lined with marble and other precious stones and make an electrifying impression. From the outside, the town hall is also a beautiful building that towers over George Square. The view of the town hall from the square is a typical sight for Glasgow.

As a visitor to Glasgow, a guided tour of the town hall is worthwhile. There are 2 guided tours a day for which you just have to register in good time. Like the big museums, the town hall tour is free, but no less interesting. Even the staircase with dark marble is absolutely worth seeing. The individual representative rooms are also partly built with marble and contain interesting paintings, among other things, on Scottish history beginning with the holy Mungo.

(Translated) I read reviews about the work of the mayor's office. I will rate this building from a tourist point of view. This is an architectural monument of the 19th century. Many interior and exterior details are made in a lush pompous Italian style. Handsomely. I am glad that the entrance to the municipal building is open to tourists, there are guided tours.

Ganz anders in Glasgow.

In very few cities is it worth visiting the local town hall. Very different in Glasgow. The town hall was built at a time when Glasgow was becoming rich through trade with the colonies in America and many magnificent buildings were being built in the city. The freely accessible staircases alone are breathtaking. On weekdays there are free guided tours that you shouldn't miss, because then you'll also be shown other parts.
